Applying nitrogen fertilisers in legume species has been subjected to scientific research due to the efficacy of these fertilisers on yield (symbiotic atmospheric nitrogen fixation). In general, applying high rates of nitrogen fertilisers on legume species does not correlate directly with green matter production because these species take the necessary nitrogen from the atmosphere. This feature is specific also to bird's-foot-trefoil, which fixes important amounts of atmospheric nitrogen during vegetation. This paper presents the impact of the interaction between organic and mineral fertilisers on bird's-foot-trefoil within a bifactorial experiment. Growth and development of common bird's-foot-trefoil (Lotus corniculatus L.) plants are influenced by seed size and weight upon sowing. Studies show that the five seed size groups influence plant vigour, i.e. a 2-4 times increase of morphological organs (roots, seedlings, leaves) in larger and heavier seed group than in smaller and lighter seed group. They apply nowadays, in the bacterial inoculation technology of legumes aiming at enhancing the capacity of fixing atmospheric nitrogen, several inoculation methods depending o the substrate used, on the nitrogen fixing bacteria multiplication and preservation type. In our research, we present the effect of bacterial inoculation with bacterial strains of Sinorhizobium meliloti on alfalfa, multiplied on the following media: liquid, peat, and granulated. Symbiosis relationships among legumes and nitrogen fixing bacteria play a crucial role in agriculture since they provide the opportunity of converting atmospheric molecular nitrogen into an ammonia form of nitrogen that the plants can use in protein formation. To enhance this process we have selected nitrogen fixing bacterial strains commercialised under different forms depending on the cultivation technologies in legume species. In our research, we have pointed out the efficacy of in situ isolated nitrogen fixing bacteria in alfalfa in two ways: rhizobia taken directly from the nodosities on the alfalfa roots and rhizobia taken from the alfalfa root system. Research has focused on 4 size groups of bird's-foot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus L.) (Ø 1.0-1.6 mm) and 10 variants of ultrasound treatments with different intensities and exposure times (0.11-2.72 W/cm2 and 10-160 seconds). After treating the bird's-foot trefoil seed groups with ultrasounds, the bird's-foot trefoil seeds were put into Petri vases for germination and the following parameters were measured: germinating energy (after 10 days), germinating faculty (after 21 days) and share of hard bird's-foot trefoil seeds (after 31 days). Research results show a very significant decrease of the share of hard bird's-foot trefoil seeds in the groups of medium- and large-size bird's-foot trefoil seeds treated with ultrasounds, compared to the control variant (no group seeds) or to the small-size bird's-foot trefoil seed group treated with ultrasounds. To point out the photosynthetic ability of perennial legume species, we measured the following parameters: chlorophyll content and soluble sugar content. Sampling was done on permanent pastures at different altitude levels: 90 m, 330 m, 900 m, and 1,800 m. Soluble sugar content was measured in samples from variants fertilized with mineral nitrogen and with organic fertilizers (through animal folding). Results showed that, as far as chlorophyll content is concerned, there is a negative relation between this parameter and the altitude level of the pasture. Perennial legume species on the pastures had a lower content of soluble sugars in all the variants fertilized with mineral fertilizers and with organic fertilizers compared to the control variant. Permanent grasslands represent, all over the world, an asset that contributes to maintaining ecological balance in all other natural ecosystem, a never-ending reservoir of vegetal biomass that supplies most of the necessary food for animals and that can also be an important source of "green energy". In Romania, only 56% of the grassland area (i.e. 2,200,000 ha) would be enough to cover the necessary fibrous fodder for the cattle, while the rest of 44% (i.e. 1,700,000 ha) could be used to produce energy. Research was done on the remanent fertilizing effect that the compost resulted from treatment plant slurry and cellulosic waste has on corn growth and development. The fertilization was performed on chernozem soil from Banat plain region, by using three quantitative variations: 25 t, 50 t and 100 t of compost per ha. Research was done in the second year of compost fertilization. The greatest corn production was obtained on the variant fertilized with 50 t per ha, which provided a production gain of 19.9 % higher than the unfertilized variant. For the same variant, the corn production yield was also 5.34 % higher than the control sample. Although the corn production and the yield obtained in the variant of 100 t per ha fertilization were higher in comparison to the unfertilized variant (control sample) and to the level of 25 t per ha, these values were inferior to the level of 50 t per ha fertilization. In this paper the authors point out the impact of ultrasounds on seed germination in bird's-foot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus L.). The bird's-foot trefoil seeds, grouped into 4 size groups, were exposed to ultrasounds with variable intensities and exposure times ranging between 0.11 and 2.72 W/cm2 and between 10 and 160 seconds. Research shows that both germinating energy and germinating ability measured at 10 and 21 days, respectively, were positively impacted by ultrasounds.
