RESUMO A restinga de Ipitangas abriga um dos últimos remanescentes de floresta de restinga livre de inundação entre Marambaia e Cabo Frio. A estrutura desta floresta foi estudada utilizando o método de ponto quadrante central utilizandose dois critérios: DAP ≥ 5 e DAS ≥ 5. Foram encontradas 108 espécies distribuídas em 34 famílias, sendo Myrtaceae, Leguminosae e Sapotaceae as mais ricas. As espécies Algernonia obovata, Pterocarpus rohrii, Pseudopiptadenia contorta, Guapira opposita, Alseis involuta, Simaba cuneata, Astronium graveolens, Eriotheca pentaphylla e Ocotea complicata prevalecem entre as dez de maior valor de importância tanto na análise a partir do DAP como do DAS. Pouteria grandiflora destaca-se como uma espécie com elevada proporção de indivíduos com troncos múltiplos, tanto em relação ao DAP quanto ao DAS, enquanto Algernonia obovata e Pterocarpus rohrii apresentam destacadas proporções quando se consideram as medidas de DAS. As dominâncias totais obtidas a partir do DAP (23,3 m2/ha) e do DAS (39,2 m2/ha) são influenciadas principalmente pela forma dos troncos e das raízes tabulares de algumas espécies e pelos troncos múltiplos. A floresta de restinga em Ipitangas apresentou maior similaridade florística com áreas do Centro de Diversidade Vegetal de Cabo Frio e do Espírito Santo do que com as restingas de São Paulo e do litoral sul do Brasil. ABSTRACT The Ipitangas Restinga is home to one of the last remnants of non-flooded restinga forest on the coast of Rio de Janeiro state, from Marambaia to Cabo Frio. Forest structure was studied using the point-centered quadrant method and minimum diameter of 5cm at breast height and at soil level. A total of 108 species were recorded in 34 families; Myrtaceae, Leguminosae and Sapotaceae were the most species-rich families. Algernonia obovata, Pterocarpus rohrii, Pseudopiptadenia contorta, Guapira opposita, Alseis involuta, Simaba cuneata, Astronium graveolens, Eriotheca pentaphylla andOcotea complicata were among the ten most important species based on Importance Value (IV) calculated from both breast height and soil level diameters. Pouteria grandiflora had the highest number of multiple trunks based on both diameter measurements, while Algernonia obovata and Pterocarpus rohrii had high numbers of multiple trunks when taken into consideration soil level diameter. Total dominance based on breast height diameter was 23.2 m2/ha while that using soil level diameter was 39.2 m2/ha. These results are influenced mainly by trunk shape, the presence of buttresses and by multiple trunks. The forest at Ipitangas had greater floristic similarity when compared to areas in the Cabo Frio Center of Plant Diversity and in the state of Espírito Santo than when compared to areas on the coast south of Rio de Janeiro state.

RESUMO A Área de Proteção Ambiental (APA) de Massambaba, criada em 1986 e administrada pela FEEMA, abrange 76,3 km2 de restingas, lagoas e morros baixos. Está situada nos municípios de Saquarema, Araruama e Arraial do Cabo, em uma área de restinga constituída por um sistema de dois cordões arenosos, coberto em parte por um campo de dunas. A região de Cabo Frio possui um clima sui generis para o litoral sudeste, com menos de 900 mm anuais de pluviosidade. A diversidade florística desta região é a mais alta do litoral, constituindo um dos 14 Centros de Diversidade Vegetal no Brasil. São descritas 10 formações vegetais e 664 espécies de plantas vasculares distribuídas em 118 famílias. As famílias mais ricas em espécies são Leguminosae e Myrtaceae. Das formas de vida, as mais abundantes são as ervas (30%), seguido pelos arbustos (23%), árvores (21%), lianas (19%), epífitas (6%) e parasitas/saprófitas (1%). Esta unidade de conservação abriga diversas espécies ameaçadas de extinção. ABSTRACT The Massambaba Environmental Protection Area was created in 1986 and is administered by the State Environmental Protection Agency (FEEMA). It has an area fo 76.3 km2 of sandy coastal plains, lagoons and low hills in the municipalities of Saquarema, Araruama and Arraial do Cabo, Rio de Janeiro state. The coastal plain consists of two beach ridges and a dune field. The climate of the Cabo Frio region is unique in southeastern Brazil in that annual rainfall is only 900 mm, and floristic diversity is the highest in the coastal region. It is one of Brazil´s 14 Centers of Plant Diversity. Ten plant communities are described for this conservation unit and there are 664 species in 118 families on the list of vascular plants. Leguminosae and Myrtaceae are the most species-rich families. The most abundant life forms on the list are herbs (30%), followed by shrubs (23%), trees (21%), lianas (19%), epiphytes (6%) and parasites/saprophytes (1%). The conservation unit protects several endangered species.

Power quality has been gaining increasing interest among the different customers in the Brazilian electrical sector. As a consequence, one of the many goals fostered by the exclusive and independent system operator in Brazil (ONS - Operador Nacional do Sistema Etrico) is seeing that the energy supplied at the customerpsilas connection of the transmission network meets the established service standards. In this context, the purpose of this paper is to present the main activities coordinated by ONS in the power quality field with relation to definition, criteria for indices and implementation of the monitoring procedures related do Brazilian transmission system.

We examined large-scale spatial variation of structural parameters and floristic composition in open Clusia scrub, a vegetation type of the Brazilian "restingas" (sandy coastal plain vegetation). This vegetation is organized in islands separated by sandy stretches with sparse herbaceous vegetation. We located 12 sample areas on three consecutive beach ridges, lying parallel to the coastline and at different distances from the ocean, in close proximity to two lagoons (Cabiunas and Comprida). Each sample area was divided into three strips. We used the line intercept method to sample all woody plants ³ 50 cm tall. We used nested ANOVA to verify structural variation between different sampling scales. TWINSPAN analysis was performed to examine the variation in floristic composition between areas. The overall diversity index was 3.07. Six species are repeatedly dominant throughout the entire sampling area. There was homogeneity in relation to diversity and species richness between beach ridges but not within beach ridges. Floristic composition and structural parameters did not vary in relation to distance from the sea but floristic composition did vary as a function of proximity to Cabiunas or Comprida lagoon. Differences in plant cover between sample areas may be related to the paleoformation of this sandy coastal plain.

Cox and Moore (1993), in their classic “Biogeography” text book, broadly define this discipline as “the study of living things in a spatial and temporal context”. They argue that biogeography studies will often provide answers to questions such as: “a) Why are there so many living things? b) Why are they distributed the way they are? c) Have they always occupied their current distribution patterns? d) Do man’s activities today affect these patterns and if so, what are the prospects for the future?” Ideally, therefore, whenever a complete account of Clusia biogeography is available, all these questions should be answerable. In order to reach this stage of knowledge, one should have enough relevant information on the three main biogeographic processes: migration, evolution and extinction (Shrader-Frechette and McCoy 1993). Since very little is known about these processes for Clusia, this chapter is by no means an attempt to provide a complete study of the biogeography of the genus. However, we use the four questions above as guidelines for this text.

A estrutura e a riqueza da formação arbustiva de Palmae foram analisadas em três sítios numa cronoseqüência de regeneração (3, 12 e 84 meses após a última queimada) na Restinga da Marambaia, registrando-se a presença de 29, 41 e 64 táxons, respectivamente. No sítio com maior tempo de regeneração, Allagoptera arenaria (Gomes) Kuntze representou 79% da dominância relativa (DoR), seguida das nanofanerófitas Inga maritima Benth. e Manilkara subsericea (Mart.) Dubard. Na área queimada há 12 meses, A. arenaria representou 88% da DoR, seguida de Inga maritima, Setaria setosa (Sw.) P. Beauv. e Paspalum arenarium Schrad. No sítio com três meses de regeneração, a DoR de A. arenaria foi de 82%, acompanhada de Clitoria sp., Inga maritima e Portulaca mucronata Link. Nos três sítios estudados, a forma de vida mais importante foi geófita rizomatosa, devido à dominância de A. arenaria. Caméfita herbácea escaposa foi a forma de vida que apresentou maior número de espécies nos sítios com três e 12 meses de regeneração e no sítio queimado há 84 meses, as nanofanerófitas acompanharam as caméfitas herbáceas escaposas em número de espécies. Das 29 espécies registradas no sítio com três meses de regeneração, só Portulaca mucronata e Sebastiania corniculata (Vahl) Müll. Arg. originaramse a partir de sementes, sendo que as demais rebrotaram ou se regeneraram. Sete dias após a queimada A. arenaria apresentou, em média, 8cm de sua parte vegetativa regenerada e com 180 dias apresentou as primeiras inflorescências. A total of 29, 41 and 64 taxa, respectively, were found. In the area sampled 84 months after fire, relative dominance of Allagoptera arenaria (Gomes) Kuntze was 79%, followed by the nanophanerophytes Inga maritima Benth. and Manilkara subsericea (Mart.) Dubard. In the area sampled 12 months after fire, relative dominance of A. arenaria was 88%, followed by Inga maritima, Setaria setosa (Sw.) P. Beauv and Paspalum arenarium Schrad. In the area sampled three months after fire, relative dominance of A. arenaria was 82%; other important species were Clitoria sp., Inga maritima and Portulaca mucronata Link. Rhizome-geophytes dominated the life form spectra in the three areas due to A. arenaria dominance. The highest percentage of species in the areas sampled three and 12 months after fire belonged to the category scapose herbaceous chamaephytes. In the area sampled 84 months after fire, both nanophanerophytes and scapose herbaceous chamaephytes were dominant. Of the 29 species recorded in the area sampled three months after fire, only Portulaca mucronata and Sebastiania corniculata (Vahl) Müll. Arg. arose from seed; the others resprouted. Mean vegetative regrowth of A. arenaria seven days after fire was 8cm; after 180 days, this plant reproduced sexually.

No Parque Nacional da Restinga de Jurubatiba localiza-se o site 5 do Programa de Pesquisas Ecológicas de Longa Duração (PELD), região de grande diversidade de hábitats e riqueza florística nas restingas do Norte do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. Para descrever a composição florística e estrutura do estrato herbáceo da formação aberta de Clusia foram amostrados todos os indivíduos deste estrato utilizando-se o método de parcelas. Em três diferentes áreas foram distribuídos 200 quadrados de 1m², totalizando 600m². Em cada quadrado anotou-se o número de indivíduos e percentagem de cobertura de cada espécie. Para a comparação entre as áreas utilizaram-se os índices de Similaridade de Sørensen, diversidade de Shannon (H') e equabilidade de Pielou (J'). Foram amostrados 39 espécies e 3.021 indivíduos. Allagoptera arenaria (Gomes) Kuntze, Vriesea neoglutinosa Mez, Aechmea nudicaulis (L.) Griseb., Stigmaphyllon paralias A. Juss., Neoregelia cruenta (Graham) L.B. Sm., Anthurium maricense Nadruz & Mayo, Pilosocereus arrabidae (Lem.) Byles & G.D. Rowl. e Ipomoea imperati (Vahl) Griseb. obtiveram os maiores valores de importância. A diversidade foi H'=1,89 nats/m² e a equabilidade J'= 0,52, utilizando a cobertura como medida de abundância das espécies por esta evitar a subjetividade na definição de indivíduos e melhor representar a estrutura oligárquica aqui descrita. O ponto A diferencia-se significativamente de B e C quanto ao número de indivíduos e à cobertura vegetal herbácea. O número de espécies e os índices de diversidade não apresentaram diferenças significativas. Os resultados aqui apresentados diferem parcialmente dos obtidos anteriormente para o estrato arbustivo, sugerindo que estudos sobre distribuição espacial e associação entre espécies são necessários para esclarecer as relações entre estes dois estratos. Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) Site No.5 in the Restinga de Jurubatiba National Park, northern Rio de Janeiro State protects a region rich in habitats and flora. We describe the variation in flora and structure of the herbaceous layer of the open Clusia scrub formation at three different sites near two coastal lagoons. All herb layer plants were sampled at each site in 200 1x1m quadrats (total: 600m²); number of plants and percent cover were recorded in each quadrat. These sites were compared as to similarity (Sørensen), diversity (Shannon: H') and evenness (J'). A total of 3,021 plants were sampled in 39 species, Allagoptera arenaria (Gomes) Kuntze, Vriesea neoglutinosa Mez, Aechmea nudicaulis (L.) Griseb., Stigmaphyllon paralias A. Juss., Neoregelia cruenta (Graham) L.B. Sm., Anthurium maricense Nadruz & Mayo, Pilosocereus arrabidae (Lem.) Byles & G.D. Rowl. and Ipomoea imperati (Vahl) Griseb. had the highest importance values. The diversity index was H' = 1.89 nats/m² (J' = 0.52) based on plant cover in order to avoid having to determine what constituted an individual and because this parameter represented the oligarchic structure more precisely. Site A is significantly different from sites B and C in number of individuals and herbaceous cover, but not in number of species and diversity indices. Our results differ in part from those observed previously for the shrub layer, thus indicating a need for studies on spatial distribution and species associations in order to clarify the relationship between these two strata.

Foram registradas para a área de estudo 12 famílias com 21 gêneros e 32 espécies. As famílias encontradas foram Blechnaceae, Cyatheaceae, Davalliaceae, Dennstaedtiaceae, Dryopteridaceae, Gleicheniaceae, Lycopodiaceae, Polypodiaceae, Pteridaceae, Salviniaceae, Schizaeaceae e Thelypteridaceae. Dessas, as mais representativas em número de espécies foram Polypodiaceae (5 spp.) e Pteridaceae (5 spp.). Os gêneros com maior número de espécies foram Nephrolepis, Polypodium e Thelypteris. Das 32 espécies registradas, 23 são ervas terrestres, três são ervas epífitas, três ervas aquáticas, duas arborescentes e uma erva hemiepífita. A maior riqueza de espécies e famílias foi registrada para a formação de mata periodicamente inundada e a menor, para a formação arbustiva fechada de pós-praia. Há baixa similaridade entre a flora pteridofítica de diferentes áreas de restingas analisadas e entre as restingas e a mata atlântica. Blechnum serrulatum e Polypodium triseriale são espécies de ocorrência comum em áreas de restingas. Das 32 espécies inventariadas, 17 possuem usos atribuídos (medicinais, ornamentais e comestíveis). The Restinga de Jurubatiba National Park is located on the Northern coast of Rio de Janeiro State (municipalities of Macaé, Carapebus and Quissamã). There are 12 families, 21 genera and 32 species, with the following families present: Blechnaceae, Cyatheaceae, Davalliaceae, Dennstaedtiaceae, Dryopteridaceae, Gleicheniaceae, Lycopodiaceae, Polypodiaceae, Pteridaceae, Salviniaceae, Schizaeaceae and Thelypteridaceae. The most species-rich families are Pteridaceae (5 spp.) and Polypodiaceae (5 spp.). Nephrolepis, Polypodium and Thelypteris were the richest genera. Of the 32 species recorded for the area, 23 are terrestrial herbs, three are epiphytes, three are aquatics, two are arborescent and one is a hemiepiphyte. The periodically flooded forest was the richest in species and families; the beach thicket presented the lowest values. The fern flora of several areas of restinga on the Brazilian coast showed low similarity values; this is also true for restingas and Atlantic forest. Blechnum serrulatum and Polypodium triseriale are commonly found in areas of restinga. Of the 32 species studied, 17 have economic potential (medicinal, ornamental and food).

Uma comunidade arbustiva fechada, localizada no cordão arenoso interno da restinga de Barra de Maricá (22°53'S e 42°50'W) foi descrita utilizando-se o método de intercepção por linha. Foram amostrados, em 350 m de linha, 398 indivíduos lenhosos com altura superior a 50 cm, distribuídos em 42 espécies. As famílias mais importantes floristicamente foram Myrtaceae (nove espécies) e Leguminosae (cinco espécies). Quanto à estrutura da vegetação, Myrtaceae apresentou o maior número de indivíduos e o maior valor de importância. As espécies que obtiveram os maiores valores de importância foram: Clusia lanceolata Cambess. (Guttiferae), Maytenus obtusifolia Mart. (Celastraceae), Myrrhinium atropurpureum Schott (Myrtaceae) e o gênero Guapira (Nyctaginaceae), representado por três espécies. O percentual de espécies raras (38%) é superior e a diversidade específica (H' = 2,84 nats/ind.) semelhante aos valores observados em outras comunidades de restinga da região Sudeste. A comunidade analisada foi identificada como arbustiva fechada de Myrtaceae. The structure of dense shrubby vegetation growing on the beach ridges at Barra de Maricá, Brazil (22°53'S and 42°50'W) was studied using the line intercept method; 398 woody plants over 50 cm tall were sampled in 350 m for a total of 42 species. The most important families of this plant community are Myrtaceae (nine species) and Leguminosae (five species). Myrtaceae was first in number of individuals and importance value. Clusia lanceolata Cambess. (Guttiferae), Maytenus obtusifolia Mart. (Celastraceae), Myrrhinium atropurpureum Schott (Myrtaceae) and the genus Guapira (Nyctaginaceae; three species) had the highest species importance values. Species diversity (H' = 2.84 nats/ind.) is similar to that of other shrubby coastal plain communities in southeastern Brazil, but there are a greater number of rare species (38%). This community was identified as a Myrtaceae "thicket".

Foram caracterizadas duas formações vegetais, psamófila-reptante e arbustiva de Palmae, no cordão arenoso externo da restinga de Marambaia (RJ) com base na posição topográfica, na fisionomia e na estrutura, utilizando-se o método de parcelas. Embora as duas formações sejam visualmente distintas, há uma zona de transição entre elas. Das 23 espécies amostradas na formação psamófila-reptante, Ipomoea pes-caprae, Ipomoea imperati, Allagoptera arenaria, Sporobolus virginicus, Remirea marítima e Panicum racemosum despontaram com maiores valores de importância (VI). A formação halófila dominada por Blutaparon portulacoides, típica de outras restingas no litoral brasileiro, não foi identificada devido ao intenso dinamismo da faixa entre o mar e a primeira linha de cristas praiais estabilizadas. A formação arbustiva de Palmae é dominada por Allagoptera arenaria, com 56% do VI total, dentre as 64 espécies amostradas. As duas formações são dominadas por geófitas rizomatosas. Two plant communities (creeping psamophyte and palm scrub) are described from the outer Marambaia beach ridge, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, based on topography, vegetation physiognomy, and structure. Although the two communities can be distinguished visually, they are joined by a transition zone. Ipomoea pes-caprae, Ipomoea imperati, Remirea maritima, Allagoptera arenaria, Sporobolus virginicus, and Panicum racemosum were the most important species sampled in the creeping psammophyte community out of a total of 23. The halophyte community reported for other sandy coastal plains in Brazil was not observed at Marambaia due to the intense wave action on this beach. The palm scrub community was dominated by Allagoptera arenaria (56% of total importance value) out of a total of 64 species. Rhizome-geophytes dominate both communities.

Publisher Summary Sandy coastal plains and associated vegetation types are found along most of the tropical, subtropical, and temperate Brazilian coast. Many different geomorphological formations are found on this coast with a corresponding variety of distinct plant communities, which have frequently been classified in the phytogeographical literature under the broad category of restinga vegetation. The chapter provides an overview of the phytogeographic treatment of Brazil, in which four formations on sandy substrate within the broad category restinga were recognized: (1) beach halophytes, (2) coastal sclerophyllous thickets, (3) coastal swamp forests, and (4) lagoon hydrophytes. It also discusses the classification of plant communities on sandy coastal plains of Brazil. Along the tropical Brazilian coast, attempts have been made to classify the sandy coastal plain vegetation types have been few and limited to one state or one region.

RESUMO As trepadeiras têm alta representatividade em várias formações vegetais, correspondendo a cerca de 25% da diversidade taxonômica das florestas tropicais. Ainda assim, elas são mal representadas em levantamentos florísticos. Estudos na floresta ombrófila densa são raros e o presente trabalho vem contribuir para o conhecimento da flora de trepadeiras dessa formação vegetal. Foram feitas coletas no Parque Estadual da Serra da Tiririca, localizado nos municípios de Niterói e Maricá, estado do Rio de Janeiro. O levantamento florístico registrou 38 famílias, 107 gêneros e 215 espécies. Leguminosae (com 29 espécies), Sapindaceae (23), Bignoniaceae (22), Malpighiaceae (19) e Apocynaceae (15) foram as famílias com maior número de espécies, totalizando 50,5% das espécies registradas. Houve um predomínio de trepadeiras lenhosas e de formas volúveis. O grande número de espécies encontradas é possivelmente resultado de um mosaico de vegetações em diferentes estádios sucessionais resultante do processo de uso e abandono da terra.

A case of orthostatic hypotension with autonomic failure is presented, and the patient's clinical response to the combined regime of a monoamine oxidase inhibitor and 9-alpha-fluorohydrocortisone is discussed. This therapy provided a relatively convenient means of alleviating the patient's symptoms and appears to be of considerable value in the management of orthostatic hypotension. However, close patient supervision is essential when these drugs are used as they cause hypertension in the supine position in subjects with poor baroreceptor function.

This clone exhibits allelic exclusion of its beta-chain genes in that only one of the two alleles is productively rearranged. Unexpectedly, it displays two productive V alpha-gene rearrangements, which are both transcribed into 1.5 kb mRNA. The contribution of each of the two productive alpha genes to the dual recognition was analyzed by gene transfer. To this end, each of the two alpha genes was separately transfected with the single productively rearranged beta gene. Transfer of only one of the two alpha beta combinations restored both allogeneic MHC recognition and self MHC-restricted antigen recognition. Thus, T cell dual recognition results from the cross-reactive recognition of an allo-MHC product by a single antigen-specific and MHC-restricted alpha beta T cell receptor. O presente estudo foi desenvolvido nas planícies costeiras do Itaguaré e do Guaratuba localizadas no município de Bertioga (litoral central do Estado de São Paulo) e teve como objetivo descrever e comparar aspectos florísticos e estruturais das tipologias florestais que ocorrem em diferentes associações com depósitos sedimentares e solos. Foram inventariados 12 florestas: a) Floresta baixa de Restinga sobre cordões litorâneos holocênicos amostrada na planícies costeiras do Guaratuba (FbR/G); b) Floresta baixa de Restinga sobre cordões litorâneos holocênicos presente na planícies costeiras do Itaguaré (FbR/I), c) Floresta alta de Restinga sobre cordões litorâneos holocênicos (FaR1/G), d) Floresta alta de Restinga sobre terraços marinhos holocênicos presente na planícies costeiras do Guaratuba (FaR2/G); e) Floresta alta de Restinga sobre terraços marinhos holocênicos presente na planícies costeiras do Itaguaré (FaR2/I); f) Floresta alta de Restinga sobre terraços marinhos baixos pleistocênicos presente na planícies costeiras do Guaratuba; g) Floresta alta de restinga sobre terraços marinhos baixos pleistocênicos presente na planícies costeiras do Itaguaré (FaR3/I); h) Floresta alta de Restinga úmida sobre depressões estuarinas paleolagunares rasas holocênicas (FaRu) i) Floresta Paludosa sobre sobre depressões paleolagunares profundas holocênicas (FPa); j) Floresta Aluvial sobre terraços fluviais pleistocênicos (FAL), K) Floresta de transição Restinga- Encosta sobre depósitos mistos holocênicos a atuais (FTr1) e L) Floresta de transição Restinga- Encosta sobre depósitos de encostas pleistocênicos a atuais (FTr2). A amostragem foi realizada pelo método de parcelas, sendo incluídos todos os indivíduos com diâmetro a 1,3 m (DAP) 10cm. Na área inventariada, que totalizou 1,2 ha, foram encontradas 130 espécies e 42 famílias botânicas. Foram verificadas diferenças na riqueza e diversidade entre Florestas presentes sobre um mesmo substrato geológico situadas em planícies diferentes. FAL apresentou a maior riqueza e diversidade entre todas as florestas comparadas, A análise da similaridade florística entre as 12 áreas estudadas formou quatro grupos, levando em conta o tipo de substrato geológico e a distância geográfica. A espécie Ilex Theezans Mart. ex Reissek se destacou quanto ao valor de importância (VI) e a densidade relativa (DR) nas duas Florestas baixas de Restinga resultado esse que se repete em outros estudos no litoral de São Paulo, sendo uma espécie potencial para restauração dessa tipologia florestal no estado de São Paulo. Nas Florestas altas de Restinga, Eriotheca pentaphylla (Vell.) A. Robyns de destacou quanto ao VI e DR em quatro florestas (FaR1/G, FaR2/G, FaR3/G e FaR3/I) sendo uma espécie potencial para restauração dessa tipologia na região de estudo. Na FAL, Ocotea dispersa (Nees) Mez foi a espécie que apresentou maior VI, maior DR e maior Dominância relativa (DoR), sendo essa espécie típica da Floresta Ombrófila Densa das Encostas da Serra do Mar. Em SB-FTr1 e SB-FTr2 a espécie Eriotheca pentaphylla se destacou com maior VI, mas apresentou maiores DR e DoR apenas no SB-FTr2. No SB-FTr1 essa espécie apresentou apenas a maior DoR, uma vez que a maior DR foi obtida para Syagrus pseudococos (Raddi) Glassman. Tabebuia cassinoides (Lam.) DC aparece com maior VI e maior DR nas duas florestas sobre depressões estuarinas paleolagunares (FaRu e FPa). Florestas presentes sobre VII substratos continentais (FAL, FTr1 e FTr2) apresentaram maiores desenvolvimento em altura, fato esse provavelmente associado a condições pedológicas e ao nível do lençol freático. As florestas que ocorrem em substratos marinhos mais antigos (pleistoceno) apresentaram árvores mais desenvolvidas em tamanho do que as Florestas altas presentes nos substratos mais novos (holoceno). Os menores valores de correlação entre altura e DAP ocorreram nas Floresta baixa de Restinga, indicando um padrão mais horizontal de dispersão das alturas, onde o incremento em altura não acompanha o incremento em DAP. A análise de componentes principais (PCA) indicou quatro grupos de sub-biomas levando em consideração a variação nos parâmetros químicos dos solos. Todos as florestas apresentaram solos com elevada acidez. Maiores teores de matéria orgânica foram encontrados nas florestas sobre sedimentos continentais que preenchem as depressões estuarinas - paleolagunares, e os menores ocorreram nas florestas baixas de Restinga. Todas as áreas apresentam limitação quanto à fertilidade dos solos. This work was done in the Guaratuba and Itaguare coast plains in Bertioga (central coast of São Paulo) and aimed to describe and compare the floristic diversity and phytosociological structure of forest types that occur in different associations with quaternary sediments and soil. A total of 12 forests were sampled: a) Restinga low Forest on Holocene beach ridges in the Guaratuba coast plains (FbR/G), b) Restinga low Forest on Holocene beach ridges in the Itaguaré coast plains (FbR/I), c) Restinga hight Forest on holocene beach ridges (FaR1/G), d) Restinga hight Forest on holocene marine terraces in the Guaratuba coast plains (FaR2/G), e) Restinga hight Forest on holocene marine terraces in the Itaguaré coast plains (FaR2/I), f) Restinga hight Forest on pleistocene marine terraces in the Guaratuba coast plains (FaR3/G); g) Restinga hight Forest on pleistocene marine terraces in the Itaguaré coast plains (FaR3/I), h) wet Restinga hight Forest on holocene estuarine - paleolagoonal shallow depression (FaRu), i) Paludal Forest on holocene paleolagoonal deep depression (FPa), j) Alluvial Forest on pleistocene fluvial terraces (FAL), k) Restinga Slope transition Forest on Holocene to recent Fluvial Deposits (FTr1) and l) Restinga Slope transition Forest on Pleistocene to recent slope deposits). For the sampling the plotting method was used, totaling 1,2 ha of sampled area, being included in the sampling all individuals with diameter at 1,3 m (D.B.H.) 5cm. In total were found 130 species and 42 families. Richness and diversity differences were observed in Forests present on the same geological substrate located in different plains. FAL had the greatest richness and diversity of all forest compared. The analysis of the floristic similarity among the 12 studied areas formed four groups, taking into account the type of geological substratum and geographical distance. The Ilex theezans Mart. ex Reissek stood out in importance value (IV) as well as the relative density (RD) in both Restinga low Forest, this result is repeated in other studies on the coast of São Paulo, being a species potential to restore this forest type in the state of São Paulo. In the Restinga hight Forests, Eriotheca pentaphylla (Vell.) A.Robyns had the highest IV and the greatest RD in four (FaR1/G, FaR2/G, FaR3/G e FaR3/I) of the five sampled areas, being a species potential to restore this forest type in the study region. In FAL Ocotea dispersa (Nees) Mez showed the highest values of IV, RD and relative dominance, indicating the influence of Ombrophylus Dense Forest present in the slopes of the Serra do Mar on the FAL. In the FTr1 and FTr2 Eriotheca pentaphylla stood out with the greatest IV, but it appears with the greatest RD and relative dominance only in the SB-FTr2. In SB-FTr1 this species has only the highest relative dominant being the highest DR for Syagrus pseudococos (Raddi) Glassman. Tabebuia cassinoides (Lam.) DC appears with the highest VI and DR in the two forest on the estuarine - paleolagoonal depression (FaRu and FPA). The biggest height development occurred in the forest on the continental sediments (FAL, FTr1 e FTr2), this fact was probably associated with soil conditions and groundwater level. The Restinga hight Forests that occur on older marine substrates had more developed trees in hight than the Restinga hight IX Forests that occur in the younger substrates. The lowest correlation value between height and DBH occurred in sub-biomes formed by the Restinga low Forest, indicating a more horizontal dispersion of the heights, where the increase in height does not follow the increase in DBH. The principal component analysis (PCA) indicated four groups of sub-biomes, taking into account the variation in chemical soil parameters. All forests showed soils with high acidity. Higher organic matter amounts were found in forests formed by estuarine - paleolagoon sediments (FaRu and FPa) and the lowest occurred in two Restinga low Forest. All areas have soils with low fertility.

This increase in the number of studies is related to the recognition of the capacity that this forest compartment have stock carbon. However it is still clear the low representation of studies of this biomass compartment of mangrove forests when compared to studies on aboveground biomass. But the underground roots can comprise more than half of the biomass of the forest system. The belowground biomass mangrove roots throughout the globe varies between 4.7 t ha-1 and 937.1 t ha-1 with an average of 172.4 t ha-1. While the carbon stock ranged between 1.9 tC.ha-1and 434.8 tC.ha-1, with an average of 75.6 tC.ha-1. For Biological Reserve State of Guaratiba (Rio de Janeiro, RJ - Brazil), where this thesis was carried out, the average carbon stock econtrada of 120.1 tC.ha-1 and biomass 267.9 t.ha-1 lying within the global and latitudinal variation range (10º and 25º). However the highest value of the belowground biomass and respective carbon stock in this study (348.94 tha-1 and 239.63 tC.ha-1) are higher than the higher values found for variation latitudinal range. As in most studies showed in the first part of the thesis, literature review, most of the biomass is found in the first layers of the surface, reaching an average of 50% in the first 0.4 m deep. As well as the contribution of the fine roots (less than 5 mm diameter) on average contribute most (about 80%) of the respective ground biomass and carbon stock, also following the results of other studies. The method used to obtain these estimates was excavate a trench of 1 m³ (1 m width x 1 m length x 1 m depth), being excavated 10 trenches 5 in fringe region and 5 in the basin area, allowing compare the two physiographic types and was verified that there is no statistically significant difference between them in relation to different diameter classes root . The only statistical significative difference between the physiographic types went to the carbon stock in the first layer. The method used in this study provides the collection of all classes and types of roots, giving all an overview of the belowground biomass, however due to their low practicality, was verified the feasibility of sampling to estimate belowground biomass through cores. This method, as seen in the literature review on the subject, is the most used to obtain the values of both belowground biomass and carbon stock associated with this. For such a test were collected 100 cores, 10 cores around each trench. Each core had a depth of 1 m and a diameter of 7 cm. When comparing the total carbon stock estimates obtained by the core method with those obtained by the trenches, no statistically significant difference was observed between the methodologies for both fringe, as for the basin. Therefore, considering the practicality of the cores sampling and the reliability of their results, it is recommended to use this sampling method, which will contribute to the expansion of carbon stock estimates the underground biomass of mangrove forests A biomassa de raízes subterrâneas em florestas de mangue tem sido objetivo de diversos estudos recentemente, assim como de outros sistemas florestais. Este aumento no número de estudos está relacionado ao reconhecimento da capacidade que esse compartimento da floresta tem de estocar carbono. No entanto ainda é nítido a baixa representatividade dos estudos desse compartimento da biomassa de florestas de mangue, quando comparados aos estudos da parte aérea. Porém as raízes subterrâneas podem comprendem mais da metade da biomassa do sistema florestal. A biomassa de raízes subterrâneas de manguezais ao longo do globo terrestre varia entre 4,7 t.ha-1 e 937,1 t.ha-1, com uma média de 172,4 t.ha-1. Enquanto que o estoque de carbono variou entre 1,9 tC.ha-1 e 434,8 tC.ha-1, com uma média de 75,6 tC.ha-1. Para a Reserva Biológica Estadual de Guaratiba (Rio de Janeiro, RJ Brasil), local onde foi realizada esta tese, a média econtrada do estoque de carbono de 120,1 tC.ha-1 e a biomassa de 267,9 t.ha-1, encontram-se dentro da faixa de variação global e latitudinal (entre 10º e 25º). No entanto o maior valor de biomassa subterrânea e respectivo estoque de carbono encontrado neste estudo (348,94 t.ha-1 e 239,63 tC.ha-1) são superiores aos maiores valores encontrado para a referida faixa latitudinal. Assim como na maioria dos trabalhos, levantados na primeira parte da tese, de revisão bibliográfica, a maior parte da biomassa encontra-se nas primeiras camadas da superfície, chegando em média a 50% nos primeiros 0,4 m de profundidade. Bem como a contribuição da raízes mais finas (com diâmetro menor que 5 mm) contribuem em média com a maior parte (cerca de 80%) da biomassa subterrânea e respectivo estoque de carbono, também acompanhando o resultado de outros estudos. O método usado para obter estas estimativas foi a de escavação de uma trincheira de 1 m³ (1 m de largura X 1 m de comprimento X 1 m de profundidade), sendo escavadas 10 trincheiras, 5 na zona de franja e 5 na zona de bacia, permitindo comparar os dois tipos fisiográficos e verificar que não existe diferença estatística significativa entre as mesmas com relação às diferentes classes de diâmetro de raízes. A única diferença estatística sgnificativa entre os tipos fisiográficos foi para o estoque de carbono no primeiro estrato. O método utilizado neste estudo proporciona a coleta de todas as classes e tipos de raizes, fornencendo um panorama geral da biomassa subterrânea, no entanto em função de sua pouca praticidade, foi testada a viabilidade da amostragem para estimativa de biomassa subterrânea através de testemunhos. Este método, como verificado na revisão bibliográfica sobre o assunto, é o mais utilizado para se obter os valores tanto de biomassa subterrânea, quanto o estoque de carbono associado a esta. Para o referido teste foram coletados 100 testemunhos, 10 testemunhos ao redor de cada trincheira. Cada testemunho tinha uma profundidade de 1 m e um diâmetro de 7 cm. Quando comparadas as estimativas de estoque total de carbono obtidas pelo método de testemunho com as obtidas pelas trincheiras, não foi verificada nenhuma diferença estatisticamente significativa entre as metodologias, tanto para franja, quanto para a bacia. Portanto, tendo em vista a praticidade da amostragem de testemunhos e a confiabilidade de seus resultados, recomenda-se a utilização desse método de amostragem, que contribuirá para a expansão das estimativas do estoque de carbono na biomassa subterrânea de florestas de mangue

This bird is endangered and endemic from coastal beach-ridge vegetation (i.e. restinga). Although, the vegetation s of F. littoralis habitat is very unknown, mainly those areas with highest densities of this bird at the low ridge thicket formation (i.e. AFP), located in a center of plant diversity (i.e. CDV). The study was conducted in two sites on Massambaba restinga, municipality of Araruama and Arraial do Cabo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Trips were made monthly totaling 60 days of field work with plants randomly collected all over the AFP, and 20 plots of 2X50 m (0.2 ha) were built perpendicular to the sea, where the individuals sampled has with Breast height diameter and Soil Height Diameter ≥ 2.5, in addition individual were categorized in branches architecture. The floristic survey resulted in 160 species collected, in which at least 12 plant species under threat, including the Salicaceae (Casearia sessiliflora) rediscovered. Orchidaceae, Myrtaceae and Leguminosae were the richest families. 75% more species were added in the preliminary list of AFP in Massambaba, in addition to 14 new records to the CDV of Cabo Frio. In structure and architecture have been analyzed 58 species of 906. The highest importance values were Pilosocereus arrabidae (42.30) and Chrysophyllum lucentifolium (23.45). Shannon diversity index was 3.46 and evenness was 0.85. The architecture of most individuals was complex, 58% of individuals have multiple branches and in general the species did not present a unique architectural pattern of branching. The local density of F. littoralis in this formation was high, with 172 ind/km2. Results had indicated that the architecture of the the low ridge thicket formation has influences in the bird ecology. This bird species was generalist on choosing plants for nesting and foraging, but it had selected thin branches and near the horizontal angle. The abundance of F. littoralis was positively correlated to plant diversity, but was negatively correlated to the height of vegetation. These are important features considering the fisionomy of AFP. The high rate of zoochory plants indicates the importance of this vegetation in the provision of food resources for wildlife, in addition, this resource is indirectly interesting for the bird, because attract small arthropods that are part of the diet of F. littoralis. O presente estudo teve como objetivo central conhecer a composição florística, a estrutura e a arquitetura das espécies da formação arbustiva fechada pós-praia e investigar possíveis associações com Formicivora littoralis, considerando tática de forrageamento, construção de ninhos e abundância da ave. F. littoralis é endêmica de restingas, e está ameaçada de extinção devido a perda acelerada de habitat. Entretanto, pouco se sabe sobre a vegetação em que ela ocorre, principalmente sobre as áreas de maior abundância da ave localizadas na formação Arbustiva Fechada Pós-praia (AFP) da Restinga da Massambaba, as quais estão inseridas em um Centro de Diversidade Vegetal (CDV) na Região de Cabo Frio. Diante disto, este estudo foi realizado em dois trechos desta formação na Restinga da Massambaba, nos municípios de Araruama e Arraial do Cabo, RJ, Brasil. Foram efetuadas 60 excursões a campo, com coletas aleatórias realizadas ao longo de toda a formação, geração de 20 parcelas de 2x50 m (0,2ha) perpendiculares ao mar, incluindo na amostragem indivíduos com DAP e DAS ≥2,5, estes, foram ainda categorizados em modelos de arquitetura de ramificação considerando número de ramos em dois patamares de altura (DAP e DAS). O levantamento florístico resultou em 327 coletas de 160 espécies, sendo pelo menos 12 espécies vegetais sob algum estado de ameaça, inclusive redescoberta uma Salicaceae (Casearia sessiliflora). Orchidaceae, Leguminosae e Myrtaceae foram as famílias mais ricas. Foram acrescentados 75% mais espécies na lista preliminar da AFP na Massambaba, além de 14 novos registros para o CDV de Cabo Frio. Na estrutura e arquitetura foram analisados 906 indivíduos de 58 espécies. Sendo os maiores valores de importância de Pilosocereus arrabidae (42,30) e Chrysophyllum lucentifolium (23,45). A diversidade de Shannon foi de 3,46 e equabilidade de 0,85. A arquitetura da maior parte dos indivíduos foi complexa, 58% de indivíduos com múltiplas ramificações, e as espécies apresentando variados padrões de ramificação. A densidade populacional de F. littoralis na AFP foi elevada, sendo estimada em 172 ind/km2. A arquitetura da AFP tem influência na ecologia da ave, pois ela foi generalista quanto à espécie utilizada como suporte na construção de ninhos e também para as táticas de forrageamento, mas houve seleção de ramos finos que formavam na horizontal ângulos de até 90° de abertura para construir ninhos. Ramos finos e mais horizontais também foram utilizados com frequência para as táticas de forrageamento. A abundância de F. littoralis esteve correlacionada positivamente à diversidade vegetal e negativamente à altura da vegetação, características marcantes nesta formação. Além disso, elevada taxa de vegetais com síndrome de dispersão zoocórica indica a importância desta formação na oferta de recursos alimentícios para a fauna e atração de pequenos artrópodes, os quais fazem parte da dieta de F. littoralis.

The degradation causes the possibility of returning to its original state is very small because the dynamics of restoration would not be the same as it was before colonization. The restoration of degraded areas is difficult due to the structural complexity of ecosystems, example the restingas - environments subject very adverse conditions (high temperatures, drought, wind constant, high salinity and lack of nutrients), so demand for high-tech development and seedling production, and high cost associated. This study is the creation of a proposal to use socioeconomic areas degraded by coconut plantations, in restinga vegetation of Caravelas, Bahia, and create a model for these areas are more economically productive, medium and long time from the generation job and income and, consequently, inclusion toward the sustainable use of native species of restinga, through extraction, considering the potential and the natural vocation of the ecosystem. In this context, the categories of analysis of this thesis were based on conflicts and socio-environmental vulnerability, ethnobotany, vegetation types, goods and related services, social technology, local development, coastal management, environmental sustainability and democratic, non-timber forest products and social inclusion. The methodological procedures used in this study were presented in each chapter of this thesis, being inserted in qualitative research (techniques of participant observation and analysis of collective discourse) associated with literature surveys (secondary data) and quantitative research for semi-structured interviews. The results of this study supported the formation of an interactive network for implementation of sustainable developments in the local production process, as regards the use of native species of restingas with reforestation of degraded areas by planting coconut, for purposes of generating job and income based on the movement of social technology. A conservação dos ecossistemas e dos recursos ambientais neles inclusos é uma condição básica e essencial para o desenvolvimento sustentado de uma dada região. A degradação faz com que a possibilidade dele retornar ao seu estado original seja ínfima pois, sua dinâmica de restauração não seria a mesma do que antes foi sua colonização. A recuperação de áreas degradadas é dificultada devido à complexidade estrutural dos ecossistemas, exemplo das restingas ambientes sujeitos as condições bastante adversas (altas temperaturas, períodos de seca, vento constante, alta salinidade e escassez de nutrientes), por isso demandam de alta tecnologia para o desenvolvimento e produção de mudas, além de alto custo associado. O objetivo deste estudo é a criação de uma proposta para uso socioeconômico das áreas degradadas por plantios de cocos, em formações vegetais de restinga, município de Caravelas, e criar um modelo para que essas áreas sejam mais produtivas economicamente, a médio e longo prazo, a partir da geração de trabalho e renda e, conseqüentemente, inclusão social voltada para o uso sustentável de espécies nativas de restinga, através do extrativismo, considerando-se o potencial e a vocação natural do ecossistema de restinga. Nesse contexto, as categorias de análise desta tese basearam-se nos conflitos e vulnerabilidade socioambiental, etnobotânica, fitofisionomias, bens e serviços associados, tecnologia social, desenvolvimento local, gestão costeira, sustentabilidade ambiental e democrática, produtos florestais não madeiráveis e inclusão social. Os procedimentos metodológicos utilizados neste estudo foram apresentados em cada capítulo desta tese, estando inserido em pesquisas qualitativas (técnicas de observação participante e análise do discurso coletivo) associada aos levantamentos bibliográficos (dados secundários) e as pesquisas quantitativas, por entrevistas semiestruturadas. Os resultados deste estudo subsidiaram a formação de uma rede interativa para implantação de empreendimentos sustentáveis no processo produtivo local, no que se refere à utilização de espécies nativas de restingas com reflorestamento de áreas degradadas por plantios de coco, para fins de geração de trabalho e renda com base no movimento de tecnologia social.

Nevertheless, they have great biological diversity, the Bromeliaceae being one of the most representative of these habitats. This study aimed to evaluate the composition, richness and assemblage structure of Bromeliaceae in two areas of restinga located on the island of Marambaia, Mangaratiba, RJ. We established 50 plots of 100 m2 on each of two areas: the Restinga of Praia da Arma??o (RPA) and the Restinga da Praia Grande (RPG). These plots were placed in lines parallel to the beach with 10 meters apart. In each plot were recorded richness and abundance of epiphytic and terrestrial bromeliads and measured the morphometric characteristics of the host tree, as well as vertical and horizontal distributions of epiphytic species. We sampled 11 species of bromeliads and three new records for Marambaia, bringing the richness of this locality for 21 species of Bromeliaceae, considered a high value of wealth. Most of the species is included on some level of threat according to IUCN, which characterizes the Marambaia Island as an important conservation site for the family. The Island had low similarity with other areas of restinga of Rio de Janeiro and this can be attributed to its geographical location in relation to these areas and the fact it is an island region. Neoregelia cruenta and Tillandsia stricta are the most abundant and are the ones with the highest frequency of occurrence, which is directly related to different reproductive strategies of these species. The specific physiological needs, like dispersion and structural complexity of habitat caused if there were differences in the occupation of phorophytes by epiphytic species. Already aggregated distribution of all species is related to the mechanism of occupation of the environment used by plants and the quality of different substrates provided by the environment and the host tree. In general, the species tend to avoid the sampling units in accordance mainly with the heterogeneity of the habitat but, however, tend to co-exist in phorophytes once occupied the height classes differently. In this study, none of the morphometric parameters of the host tree explained the variations in the parameters of assemblage richness and abundance of bromeliads, indicating that other variables should better explain these relationships. Este estudo visou avaliar a composi??o, riqueza e a estrutura da taxocenose de Bromeliaceae em duas ?reas de restinga localizadas na Ilha da Marambaia, Mangaratiba, RJ. Foram estabelecidas 50 parcelas de 100 m2 em cada uma das duas ?reas: a restinga da Praia da Arma??o (RPA) e a restinga da Praia Grande (RPG). Estas parcelas foram alocadas em linhas paralelas ? praia distando 10 m entre si. Em cada parcela foram registradas a riqueza e a abund?ncia de brom?lias terrestres e ep?fitas e mensuradas as caracter?sticas morfom?tricas dos for?fitos, e bem como as distribui??es vertical e horizontal das esp?cies ep?fitas. Foram amostradas 11 esp?cies de brom?lias e tr?s novas ocorr?ncias para a Marambaia, elevando a riqueza desta localidade para 21 esp?cies de Bromeliaceae, considerado um valor alto de riqueza. A maior parte das esp?cies amostradas est? inclu?da em algum n?vel de amea?a segundo a UICN, o que caracteriza a Ilha da Marambaia como um importante s?tio de conserva??o para a fam?lia. A Ilha apresentou baixa similaridade com outras ?reas de restinga do RJ e isto pode ser atribu?do a sua localiza??o geogr?fica em rela??o a estas ?reas e ao fato de se tratar de uma regi?o insular. Neoregelia cruenta e Tillandsia stricta s?o as mais abundantes e s?o as que possuem os maiores valores de freq??ncia de ocorr?ncia, fato que est? diretamente relacionado ?s estrat?gias reprodutivas diferenciadas destas esp?cies. As necessidades fisiol?gicas espec?ficas, forma de dispers?o e a complexidade estrutural do h?bitat fizeram com que houvesse diferen?as na ocupa??o dos for?fitos pelas esp?cies ep?fitas. J? a distribui??o agregada de todas as esp?cies est? relacionada ao mecanismo de ocupa??o do ambiente utilizado pelas plantas e pela qualidade diferenciada dos substratos oferecidos pelo ambiente e pelos for?fitos. De uma forma geral, as esp?cies tendem a se evitar nas unidades amostrais de acordo, principalmente, com a heterogeneidade do h?bitat mas, no entanto, tendem a co-existir nos for?fitos uma vez que ocupam as classes de altura de forma diferenciada. Neste estudo, nenhum dos par?metros morfom?tricos do for?fito explicou as varia??es dos par?metros de riqueza e abund?ncia da taxocenose de Bromeliaceae, indicando que outras vari?veis devem explicar melhor essas rela??es.

Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto The Muçununga is a vegetation type surrounded by Atlantic rain forest of Southern Bahia and Northen Espírito Santo, Brazil. Its physionomic formas range from graminoid fields to dense woodlands. This study was carried out at Caravelas country (41°13 17 and 39°28 24 ). The Muçununga vegetation is still unknown by Brazilian environmental legislation. Therefore, it has been vulnerable since it has not been recognized as a related ecosystem to Atlantic rain forest. The working hypotesis of this study have been: 1) Muçununga is a related ecosystem to Atlantic rain Forest; 2) the phytophisionomic range of Muçununga is due to soil variation; 3) plant functional types could be identified according to the stress they are adapted; 4) the plant diversity is lower on sites of higher stressing soils. There were chosen six vegetation forms of Muçununga for allocation of 20 x 20m plots for vegetation and soil studies. There were sampled all life forms of plants, and were sampled soils by means of superficial collection profiles. Analysis of plant populations related to soil properties were made by means of Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) and regression. There were sampled 169 species and 132 genera from 64 botanic families. The richest families were Myrtaceae, Melastomataceae and Asteraceae. Panicum trinii and Lagenocarpus rigidus were the most important (VI) species. The Muçununga was more similar to Restingas of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo states, and less similar to those vegetation unvelated to Atlantic rain forest. The soils of Muçununga were classified as spodosoil, acidic, sandy and with wide range variation of water table depths, fine sand to grass sand ratio, and organic matter. The more stressing is the soil type, the simpler is physiognomic form and the lower are richness and diversity. Furthermore, plant functional types were identified, correlated to the stress of Muçununga s soils. Hence, the Muçununga vegetation is na ecosystem related to the Brazilian Atlantic rain Forest under extreme stressing conditions of soil that are cause of to a unique vegetation under the Atlantic domain. A Muçununga é uma Classe de Formação vegetal inserida como um encrave de vegetação savânica, de menor porte e biomassa, em meio a Floresta Ombrófila Densa de Terras Baixas do sul da Bahia e norte do Espírito Santo. Com formações que variam de graminóides até florestais, seus ambientes são fortemente influenciados pelas condições edáficas. A Muçununga é uma vegetação pouco estudada e não é oficialmente reconhecida como um ecossistema associado à Mata Atlântica, portanto é vulnerável legalmente. As hipóteses deste trabalho são: 1) a Muçununga é um ecossistema associado à Mata Atlântica pelo conjunto de evidências florísticas e estruturais; 2) as variações fisionômicas são causadas por variações do solo; 3) é possível delimitar grupos funcionais de espécies vegetais adaptados às condições de estresse da Muçununga; 4) a diversidade vegetal é menor nos locais em que o estresse causado pelo solo é maior. O estudo foi realizado em uma vegetação de Muçununga, no município de Caravelas, 17°41 13 S e 39°28 24 W. Foram escolhidos seis formações diferentes onde alocou-se uma parcela de 20 m x 20 m por ambiente. Em cada parcela, a fisionomia foi descrita e efetuou-se o levantamento florístico-estrutural da vegetação, além de coletas de amostras superficiais e de perfis de solo. Foram realizadas análises de correspondência canônica (CCA) e de regressão para correlacionar populações vegetais e variáveis do solo. Foram amostradas 169 espécies, 132 gêneros e 64 famílias. As famílias mais ricas foram Myrtaceae, Melastomataceae e Asteraceae. Panicum trinii e Lagenocarpus rigidus foram as espécies com maior VI. A Muçununga mostrou-se mais similar às Restingas do ES e RJ, e menos similar às Restingas do Nordeste do Brasil. Os solos da Muçununga, Espodossolos, possuem acidez elevada, e observa-se uma nítida mudança de ambientes relacionados à profundidade do lençol freático, teores de areia grossa, areia fina e matéria orgânica. O tipo de solo determina as fisionomias e os padrões de riqueza e diversidade são menos diversos nas comunidades sob maior estresse. Também, é possível determinar grupos funcionais de espécies mais adaptadas às condições de estresse dos solos da Muçununga. Diante das evidências, a Muçununga revela-se um ecossistema associado à Mata Atlântica.

A ecosystem adjacent to the Atlantic forest sensu lato is the restinga vegetation. The sou these formations are composed predominantly for sandy sediments, classified as marine quartz sand. Some studies show that there is a natural variation in diversity, richness, ecological attributes and composition of woody species in structural gradients. However the restinga were not provided with researches. Therefore it is evident the need for such studies in a highly fragile ecosystem by human action. This study aims to characterize the structural parameters and biological attributes of the woody species of restinga of Center of Endemism Pernambuco. The study was conducted in the areas of restinga located north of the Rio San Francisco River, between parallels 5°OO’OO “and l0°30’OO” S and meridians 34°50’OO” and 37°12’OO” W (of Alagoas to Rio Grande do Norte States). The first part of the study was associated with the compilation of existing structural data, in addition to field surveys, for a joint analysis of the structure of these areas, analyzing the factors determining the similarities or differences between structural parameters, and an evaluation of correlations between these ecosystems and abiotic gradients. The results show that the structure of restinga studied seems not be influenced by abiotic gradients. However, the difference between some parameters, which influence the structure of the areas, may be related to the degree of anthropic action of restinga. The second part holds a database related to reproductive strategies of the woody species studied with a view to understand the factors that maintain vegetal diversity at area. These data are compared with other ecosystems, with the intention of promoting in the future an adjustment of management practices and conservation in the restinga. Inconspicuous fl.owers that offer nectar as a resource, open, pollinated by bees, hermaphrodite, with fleshy fruits, medium size and biotic dispersal syndromes are the characteristics of the biological attributes that fit the majority of species of restinga of Center of Endemism Pernambuco. In the results of the second part, note that the biological attributes appear to be similar to other tropical forests, with few changes, according to physiognomic and abiotic differences these ecosystems. This information may be used to guide future work in the study area because research with this type of approach could provide key data on the structure and functioning of the restinga. O Centro de Endemismo Pernambuco é de especial importância biogeográfica e abriga a Floresta Atlântica ao norte do São Francisco, que corresponde a todas, as porções desta floresta situadas entre Alagoas e Rio Grande do Norte. Dentre essas florestas, inserida como um ecossistema adjacente à Floresta Atlântica sensu lato, encontram-se as restingas. Essas formações são constituídas por areias quartzosas marinhas. Alguns estudos demonstram que existe uma variação natural na diversidade, riqueza, atributos ecológicos e composição de espécies lenhosas, em gradientes estruturais, dentro de um ecossistema. Porém, as restingas não foram contempladas com pesquisas com esse tipo de enfoque. Portanto, é notória a necessidade desses estudos em um ecossistema fragilizado pela ação antrópica. A presente pesquisa tem por objetivo principal caracterizar os parâmetros estruturais e os atributos biológicos das espécies lenhosas das restingas do Centro de Endemismo Pernambuco. O estudo foi desenvolvido nas áreas de restinga situadas ao norte do Rio São Francisco, entre os paralelos 5°00’00” e 10°30’00” sul e meridianos 34°50’00” e 37°1200” oeste (de Alagoas ao Rio Grande do Norte). A primeira parte do estudo foi associada à compilação de dados estruturais preexistentes, somados a levantamentos realizados em campo, para uma análise conjunta da estrutura dessas áreas, analisar os fatores determinantes das similaridades ou diferenças entre parâmetros estruturais, juntamente com uma avaliação das correlações existentes entre esses ecossistemas e gradientes abióticos. Os resultados mostram que a estrutura das restingas parece não estar sendo influenciadas por gradientes abióticos. No entanto, a diferença entre alguns parâmetros, o que influencia na estrutura entre as áreas pode estar relacionada com o grau de antropização das Restingas. A segunda parte organiza um banco de dados referente a suas estratégias reprodutivas com a perspectiva de compreender os fatores mantenedores da diversidade vegetal nas áreas. Estes dados são comparados com os de outros ecossistemas, com a intenção de promover, futuramente, uma adequação das práticas de manejo e conservação nas restingas. Flores inconspícuas, oferecendo néctar como recurso, abertas, polinizadas por abelhas, hermafroditas, com frutos carnosos, de tamanho médio e síndromes de dispersão biótica, são as características dos atributos biológicos em que se enquadra a maioria das espécies das restingas do Centro de Endemismo Pernambuco. Como resultados da segunda parte, nota-se que os atributos biológicos parecem ser similares a outras florestas tropicais, com algumas poucas variações, de acordo com diferenças fisionômicas e abióticas desses ecossistemas. Estas informações poderão ser utilizadas para nortear futuros trabalhos na área de estudo pois, pesquisas com esse tipo de enfoque, poderão fornecer dados primordiais sobre a estrutura e o funcionamento das restingas.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior The Restingas are ecosystems that occur in sandy soils deposited during the Quaternary. These are known to have a high diversity of vegetation, but few studies provide information on abiotic factors determining this diversity. This study aimed to: (i) assess the influence of the chemical aspects, physical soil and flooding in phytophysionomic determination, (ii) assess the possible influences of flooding and soil characteristics in richness, abundance and composition of species, (iii) analyze the possible structural variations and diversity in terms of flooding and soil gradient of forest formations. To answer the first objective were opened four representative soil profiles with different depths, where samples were collected in each horizon exists. To analyze the fluctuation of groundwater piezometer were installed to depth of 2 m in each phytophysionomic. To characterize the vegetation, four diagrams were made from profile to 50 m long by 3 m deep, and included individuals with circumference at breast height (CAP) ≥ 10 cm at 1.30 m above the ground. To answer the second and third goal were performed quantitative analysis of species shrub / tree with 80 plots of 5x25 m, distributed equally between the forests studied, totaling 1.0 ha of sampling, which were included individuals with circumference at breast height ≥ 10 cm at 1.30 m above the ground. For both parameters were calculated phytosociological usual, basal area, density and height of individuals sampled, and the values of diversity, richness and equability. We realized analysis of canonical correlation and indicator species. We used for analysis of the floristic similarity, with the Jaccard index and the soil variables was used Euclidean distance. Samples were collected from topsoil (0-10 cm) in each plot for chemical analysis and physical. Four different classes of soils were recognized under the four studied vegetation, and dystrophic in all configurations. The class of Organossolos Tiomorficos Sapricos Solodicos very poorly drained is present in the flooded forest. Under the flooded forest were Gleissolos Tiomorficos Humicos sodicos poorly and drained. The class of Espodossolos Humiluvicos Hidromorficos Duricos it is moderately to imperfectly drained, occurring on the Forest not flood Transition. The Neossolo Quartizarênicos Órticos Espódicos excessively drained under the Forest are not flooded. These formations were raised 132 species, distributed in 49 families, where the greatest wealth were Myrtaceae (23), Lauraceae (12), Fabaceae (9), Clusiaceae (8), Sapotaceae (6), Melastomataceae and Euphorbiaceae (5) and Rubiaceae, Apocynaceae and Annonaceae with four species each. The training showed significant differences in species richness, except for not swamp forest on Forest Transition not flooded. The analysis of canonical correlation (CCA) showed that the species have their distribution along the gradient under the influence of drainage, the concentrations of nutrients and the physical characteristics of the soil, these results are corroborated by analysis of indicator species. 3804 individuals were sampled in forests, were significant differences in the values of basal area, density and height of individuals of forest formations. The increase in diversity was so gradual, following the slope of the flooded forest to the forest not flooded. Changes in structure and diversity of four forest communities are related to the variables of flooding, soil chemistry and physics. Given the above we can see that the vegetation characteristics (density, basal area and height) and richness, composition, abundance and diversity of species found in forest formations are in part conditioned by edaphic variables. As Restingas são ecossistemas que ocorrem em solos arenosos depositados durante o período Quaternário. Estas são conhecidas por apresentarem uma elevada diversidade de fitofisionomias, porém, poucos estudos trazem esclarecimentos dos fatores abióticos determinantes desta diversidade. O presente estudo teve como objetivos: (i) avaliar a influência dos aspectos químicos, físicos do solo e inundação na determinação fitofisionômica; (ii) verificar as possíveis influências da inundação e das características pedológicas na riqueza, abundância e composição de espécies; (iii) analisar as possíveis variações estruturais e da diversidade em função da inundação e do gradiente pedológico das formações florestais. Para atender o primeiro objetivo foram abertos quatro perfis representativos no solo com profundidades variadas, onde foram coletadas amostras em cada horizonte existente. Para a análise da flutuação do lençol freático foram instalados piezômetros com profundidade de 2 m em cada fitofisionomia. Para caracterizar as fitofisionomias, foram confeccionados quatro diagramas de perfil com 50 m de comprimento por 3 m de profundidade, sendo incluídos os indivíduos com circunferência a altura do peito (CAP) ≥ 10 cm a 1,30 m do solo. Para atendimento do segundo e terceiro objetivo foram realizadas análises quantitativas das espécies arbustivo/arbóreas através de 80 parcelas de 5x25 m, distribuídas equitativamente entre as florestas estudadas, totalizando 1,0 ha de amostragem, onde foram incluídos os indivíduos com circunferência a altura do peito ≥ 10 cm a 1,30 m do solo. Para tanto foram calculados os parâmetros fitossociológicos usuais, área basal, densidade total e altura dos indivíduos amostrados, bem como os valores de diversidade, equabilidade e riqueza. Foi também realizada uma análise de correlação canônica e de Espécies Indicadoras. Também foram realizadas análises de similaridade florística utilizando o índice de Jaccard e de Distância Euclidiana para as variáveis edáficas. Foram coletadas amostras de solo superficial (0-10 cm) em cada parcela para análise química e física. Quatro classes de solos distintas foram reconhecidas sob as quatro fitofisionomias estudadas, sendo distróficos em todas as formações. A classe dos Organossolos Tiomórficos Sápricos solódicos muito mal drenados está presente sob a Floresta Inundada. Sob a Floresta Inundável foram encontrados Gleissolos Tiomórficos Húmicos sódicos mal drenados. A classe de Espodossolos Humilúvicos Hidromórficos dúricos apresentase moderadamente a imperfeitamente drenado, ocorrendo sob a Floresta Não Inundável de Transição. Os Neossolos Quartzarênicos Órticos espódicos excessivamente drenados estão sob a Floresta Não Inundável. Nestas formações foram levantadas 132 espécies, distribuídas em 49 famílias, onde as de maior riqueza foram Myrtaceae (23), Lauraceae (12), Fabaceae (9), Clusiaceae (8), Sapotaceae (6), Melastomataceae e Euphorbiaceae (5) e Rubiaceae, Apocynaceae e Annonaceae com quatros espécies cada. As formações apresentaram diferenças significativas na riqueza de espécies, com exceção da Floresta Não Inundável em relação à Floresta Não Inundável de Transição. A análise de correlação canônica (CCA) evidenciou que as espécies apresentam sua distribuição ao longo do gradiente sob influência da drenagem, das concentrações de nutrientes e das características físicas dos solos, sendo estes resultados corroborados pela análise de Espécies Indicadoras. Foram amostrados 3804 indivíduos nas florestas, tendo sido encontradas diferenças significativas nos valores de área basal, densidade e altura dos indivíduos das formações florestais. O aumento dos valores de diversidade se deu de forma gradativa, seguindo o gradiente da Floresta Inundada para a Floresta Não Inundável. As variações na estrutura e diversidade das quatro comunidades florestais estão relacionadas com as variáveis de inundação, química e física do solo. Face ao exposto pode-se constatar que as características fitofisionômicas (densidade, área basal e altura) e riqueza, composição, abundância e diversidade de espécies existentes nas formações florestais estão em parte condicionadas pelas variáveis edáficas.
