This paper presents a fast and robust $DQ$ current controller to regulate the output power of single-phase grid-connected inverters. The proposed method generates the grid current orthogonal component without introducing any additional dynamics or distortions to the control loop. Moreover, its operation does not depend on the system parameters. The proposed method exhibits improved steady-state and dynamic performances in comparison with the inverters equipped with the conventional orthogonal signal generation techniques. Its improved characteristics make the proposed controller suitable for smart inverter applications, to provide advanced grid functionalities as demanded by recently revised standards. In this paper, the notion of a semi-independent dynamical system on a hyper MV-algebra is introduced. The concept of the entropy for a semi-independent hyper MV-algebra dynamical system is developed, and its characteristics are considered. The notion of equivalent semi-independent systems is defined, and it is proved the fact that two equivalent semi-independent hyper MV-algebra dynamical systems have the same entropy. A cDNA clone for factor 10 (FX) isolated from chicken embryo inserted into the mammalian cell expression vector pCDNA3.1 was transfected into the baby hamster kidney (BHK-21) cell line. The generated BHK-21 cells with inducible expression of FX were used to investigate the efficacy of the serine transmembrane protease to proteolytic activation of influenza virus hemagglutinin (HA) with monobasic cleavage site. Data showed that the BHK-21/FX stably expressed FX after ten serial passages. The cells could proteolytically cleave the HA of low pathogenic avian influenza virus at multiplicity of infection 0.01. Growth kinetics of the virus on BHK-21/FX, BHK-21, and MDCK cells were evaluated by titrations of virus particles in each culture supernatant. Efficient multicycle viral replication was markedly detected in the cell at subsequent passages. Virus titration demonstrated that BHK-21/FX cell supported high-titer growth of the virus in which the viral titer is comparable to the virus grown in BHK-21 or MDCK cells with TPCK-trypsin. This paper presents a comprehensive investigation of various reference frames and their relative speeds in cascaded doubly-fed induction machines (CDFIMs). Then, a compact space-phasor model of CDFIMs in the natural and arbitrary reference frames is presented that is useful for performance analysis of CDFIMs based on rotating phasors. The merits of the proposed model compared with existing models are using a common (single) reference frame for all machines and parts of CDFIMs, and the model formulation is independent of the rotor angle position. The reference frames in the suggested model can be fixed on the common rotor of the CDFIM machines for dynamic analysis or it can be fixed on the stator/rotor flux of each cascaded machines useful for CDFIMs controller design. A two-axes equivalent circuit for a CDFIM is also presented, which enables analysis of CDFIMs in commercially available power circuit simulation software tools. The validity of the model is verified via the investigation of an experimental setup and consists of two mechanically coupled 4-kW DFIMs and a 4-kW dc machine as a load. For a long time, electricity is supplied by means of firing the fossil fuels in thermal power plants. Now, it is well-known that the activity has many environmental and health issues, which are sharply menace the future of earth and humanity. Photovoltaic (PV) system is one of the popular renewable types of energy generation, which is available in most parts of the earth. Unfortunately, temperature rise in a PV module, leads to a significant reduction in its electrical efficiency. In this paper, two methods of wind blowing and mounting fins are considered separately and simultaneously, to overcome the mentioned weak-point. The wind velocity is set to 2 km/h. So, four cases are assessed, experimentally. As results, it was revealed that wind blowing of 2 km/h is more effective than fins in cooling PV module, so that, it can create more than 15 °C lower temperature than mounting fins. The mentioned temperature reduction leads to enhance the electrical efficiency and output power by 2.4% and 21.7%, respectively. In order to show the accuracy of results, all experimental outcomes in electrical efficiency were compared with the analytical formula. Non-ionic surfactants have the ability to alter the cell membrane's permeability for enhancing virus replication. The impact of non-ionic surfactant Tween 80 (TW80) on the infectivity of infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) was studied in BCL1 cells. The toxicity of different concentrations of TW80 for BCL1 cells was determined for five-time passages. The confluent monolayer of BCL1 was infected by IBDV and subsequently passaged. The adaptation was confirmed by virus titration and RT-PCR assay. Replication kinetics of the cell-adapted IBDV was evaluated in pre-treatment and simultaneous treatment with TW80 at 0.01% concentration. The IBDV infectivity patterns were determined by virus titration, FRAP assay, and transmission electron microscopy. Sequence analysis, RNA secondary structure, and potential N-glycosylation site were conducted for IBDV VP2. Despite the similar cytopathic effects found in both TW80-treated cells and similar ROS levels, the IBDV titer was higher in TW80 pre-treated cells compared to the simultaneous treatment one. Such an increase in IBDV titer did not associate with changes in the VP2 sequence and RNA secondary structure. One of the most critical issues in overhead cranes is the swing of a suspended load while the crane starts to move and accelerates, changes the movement direction, breaks or stops. This can lead to severe damage, and therefore several methods have been applied to damp the load swings. Most of these methods are based on information about the swing angle of a suspended load. In traditional methods, camera vision, acceleration or inclinometers sensors, simple pendulums and other types of sensors have been used. Generally, a method is desired if it can estimate the swing angle with the least equipment costs, while using an uncomplicated calculation method and the minimum sensitivity to environmental situations and industrial noises. In this paper, a new algorithm is proposed to estimate the swing angle. To do so, the supplied voltage and current of the induction motor which drives the trolley are measured, and then using a new proposed method based on a dynamic analysis of the mathematical dynamic model, the swing angle is estimated and is used in the controller system to damp the swings. Objectives: The aim of this study is to assess the sleep quality and sleep disorders (prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea and sleepiness) among occupational drivers in Iran and to determine which demographic factors and occupational habits are linked to road traffic accidents. Material and Methods: In this analytic cross-sectional study 556 occupational road drivers from Shahroud city (in the northeast of Iran) participated, upon a prior verbal informed consent, during 2013-2014. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) standard questionnaire that scored on 7 point scale, the 8-item Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) questionnaire and the 8-question STOP-Bang questionnaire along with demographic information and occupational data were used. To explore the independent factors associated with odds of poor sleep quality and road accident, multiple logistic regression models were used. Results: Prevalence of previous road accidents, sleepiness while driving, and obstructive sleep apnea scored ≥ 3 in the study, and drivers accounted for 23.8%, 29%, and 24.8%, respectively. The global mean score of sleep quality and excessive sleepiness score were 5.2 and 4.8, respectively. The main factors related to the odds of poor sleep quality were snoring (odds ratio (OR) = 2.34; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.15-4.77), smoking (OR = 2.12; 95% CI: 1.15-3.97), and driving times in a day (OR = 1.12; 95% CI: 1.03-1.21). The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (OR = 1.13; 95% CI: 1.07-1.23) and suffering from apnea (OR = 4.89; 95% CI: 1.07-23.83) were the best predictors for odds (increased risk) of road accidents. Conclusions: A considerable proportion of Iranian drivers had records of road accidents; poor sleep quality, sleepiness while driving, and sleep disorder breathing (obstructive sleep apnea - OSA). Snoring, smoking, driving time in a day, excessive sleepiness, and presumably apnea increase the odds of poor sleep quality and road traffic accident for Iranian occupational drivers. This paper introduces two new techniques to enhance both efficiency and signal bandwidth in delta–sigma-based transmitters. At first step, a technique called quantization noise reduction (QNR), is introduced to enhance the coding efficiency. By filtering out part of the quantization noise in the whole band of the signal, while the signal envelope is maintained almost constant, the coding efficiency is improved without imposing any additional nonlinearity or distortion to the system. By utilizing this technique for an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal with 1.25-MHz bandwidth and 80 times oversampling, with 8.1-dB peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), the coding efficiency is improved from 8.8% to 14.5% while the signal-to-noise distortion ratio (SNDR) of the system remains 43 dB. In the next step by using a controlled filtering on in-band quantization noise along with QNR technique, the bandwidth of the signal and efficiency are increased simultaneously without losing as much linearity. The second technique is called quantization noise reduction with in-band filtering or (QNRIF). QNRIF is applied on an OFDM signal with 1.25-MHz bandwidth, with the same PAPR and only 16 times oversampling. The result for the coding efficiency is improved from 7.7% to 18.7% with 41-dB SNDR. Essential oils from three species of plants comprising three plant families were obtained by Clevenger-type water distillation. The major compounds in these essential oils were identified with GC-MS and their insecticidal activity against adult cotton aphid,Aphis gossypiiGlover tested with dosage-mortality bioassays. We examined mortality only for viviparous adults because sizeable aphid populations on cucumber (Cucurbitaceae) hosts are largely produced by these wingless, parthenogenic females. Three of the oils were directly applied to aphid females in randomised blocks at 25 ± 2 °C and 60 ± 5% R.H. and under a L16:D8 photoperiod. Essential oils were mixed with a non-toxic emulsifying agent, Tween 80. Results show adverse contact effects of essential oils studied in the control of cotton aphid. Probit analysis and LC50at concentrations at different exposures showed aphids were incapacitated and killed by aliphatic aldehydes, phenols and monocyclic terpenes contained inAzadirachta indica, Eucalyptus camaldulensisandLaurus nobilis. LC50on cotton aphid, for azadirachtin eucalyptus and laurel essential oils were respectively 5389, 9515 and 13730 ppm. In the current study, efficacy in respect to the contact toxicity (LC50) followed the order:A. indica > E. camaldulensis > L. nobilisafter 24 h treatment. Our results show quantitative and qualitative differences in the chemical composition and insecticidal activities of our essential oils. All oils became insect toxic as concentration increased. According to the results, essential oils of all the three plants have the potential to be employed in the pest management programmes that can be used in protection of greenhouse conditions against cotton aphid. Assessing, predicting, and controlling injection-induced seismicity is a major challenge for developing enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) due to the complexity of coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) processes. This study aimed to develop a fully coupled numerical model to assess the complex behavior of a low permeable matrix-fracture during non-isothermal single-phase fluid injection process. A thermo-poroelastic displacement discontinuity (DD) method combining with different forms of finite element method are implemented to encapsulate the fractured medium response and transport processes, respectively. The nonlinear characteristics of normal (changing the joint to hydraulic fracture status) and shear (changing the stick to slip fracture status) fracture deformation are taken into account through fracture constitutive relations. Developed numerical approach was applied to simulate cool water injection into fracture/matrix systems, analyzing the role of coupled processes on spatiotemporal variation of matrix-fracture stresses, temperature and pore pressure and assessing induced seismicity (slippage) and permeability alteration. Numerical simulations demonstrate a fully coupled relation between matrix dilation, shrinkage, and non-linear fracture deformation. The redistribution of dynamic and kinematic parameters along with non-linear fracture deformation showed that although the poroelastic effects are dominant in the early stages, thermoelastic effects dominate in the long-term injection stages. • A fully-coupled Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical approach was developed to model injection process in EGS. • Displacement discontinuity and finite element methods were combined to encapsulate fracture deformation and transport processes, respectively. • Fracture constitutive laws were implemented to model non-linear crack deformation. • Poroelastic effects are dominant in the early stages, and thermoelastic effects dominate in the long-term injection stages. The cotton aphid,Aphis gossypiiGlover (Hem: Aphididae), is one of the most injurious pests of fruits, vegetables and ornamental plants worldwide, both outdoor and indoor. Currently, the main method of control of this pest is through application of pesticides which is mostly accompanied by the resistance of the pest against pesticide(s). The resurgence of resistant aphid populations brings about further contamination of foodstuff and environment. Essential oils obtained from the aerial parts of plants may have the potential to be an alternative to synthetic pesticides, since they have been demonstrated to possess a wide range of bioactivities against insects and mites. So, the aim of the current study was to investigate the effect of essential oils extracted from three different plants namely:Azadirachta indicaAdr. Juss. (Meliaceae),Eucalyptus camaldulensisDehn. (Myrtaceae) andLaurus nobilisL. (Lauraceae) againstA. gossypii. The LC50values of essential oils ofA. indica,E. camaldulensisandL. nobilisagainstA. gossypiiwere 1.96, 2.28 and 3.16 μl L−1air, respectively. Background and purpose: Gallstone is one of the most common problems of hepatobiliary system. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a gold standard treatment for this problem. Carbon dioxide (CO2) insufflated in the abdomen for better exposure in laparoscopic cholecystectomy could increase the liver enzyme levels. The goal of this study was to assess the effect of different CO2 pressure (12-16 mm Hg) on liver enzymes in laparoscopic cholecystectomy compared with open cholecystectomy. Materials and methods: In this clinical trial 60 patients were randomly assigned into three groups. The first group had low pressure (12mm Hg) laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The second group had laparoscopic cholecystectomy with high pressure (16mm Hg) and the third group had an open cholecystectomy. To assess the liver enzyme levels we checked the AST, ALT, ALP, LDH, and Bil, before, 24h, and 72h after surgery. Data analysis was done in SPSS ver.15 using repeated measures ANOVA. Results: The changes in liver function tests were significantly different before and 24h after the surgery in first and second group, however, these changes reduced to primary level after 72h. In the group with open cholecystectomy significant changes were seen in AST and ALT levels before and 24h after the surgery which decreased to primary level after 72h. The level of LDH was significantly different before and 24h after the surgery in group one and two. Conclusion: Gas insufflation in to abdomen transiently changed the liver enzyme levels that reduced to primary level after 72h. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To understand human response to avian H9N2 influenza, we investigated the effects of the viral infection on A549, HepG2, and HeLa cells at low and high MOIs. To identify virus-host interplay, expression of Mx and NP genes was measured in the cells supernatants. Cell viability and apoptosis were evaluated by MTT assay, DNA fragmentation, and florescent staining. The virus titration and NP gene transcript levels indicate lower susceptibility of HeLa cell to H9N2 replication than other cells. Although H9N2 did produce a faster CPE in HepG2, high dose of the virus induced apoptosis within early stage of A549 infection. The DNA laddering was enhanced in the cell correlated with increase in virus transcripts. The undetectable to different regulation levels of Mx gene were observed in response to H9N2 infection suggesting that an insufficient antiviral defense in the noncompetent-IFN HepG2 cell promotes efficient viral replication. These results showed that the permissivity of HepG2 for H9N2 is comparable with A549; however, liver cells are not target tissue respond to the infection. These data revealed that the H9N2 virus induced apoptosis signaling via mitochondrial pathway in human alveolar epithelial cells, indicating that the induction may be associated with a dose-dependent manner. Abstract: This paper presents a new predistortion linearization technique based on the memory polynomial model of the power amplifier (PA) and a multi-bit delta-sigma modulator (DSM), in order to avoid reverse modeling and the associated instability problems. In this topology, a multi-bit DSM is utilized as a digital predistorter by locating the forward model of the PA in its feedback path. The technique has two main advantages. First, it applies the forward model instead of the reverse model of the PA, which leads to less implementation complexity and, therefore, greater robustness against instability. Second, using a dynamic model instead of a static model makes it more applicable for the linearization of wideband signals, due to the compensation for memory effects. To justify its advantages, linearizers based on both static and dynamic models have been designed and tested. For a 4MHz WiMAX signal, the measurement results show an improvement of 17.2dB in the signal-to-noise and distortion ratio (SNDR) by using a dynamic polynomial model, compared to an improvement of 13dB for a static model. Polyaniline nanocomposite with controllable properties was used to design and fabricate a novel electrochemical immunosensor for the early detection of type 2 diabetes. Insulin receptor antibody is a powerful predictor of type 2 diabetes development in individuals. A systematic study was carried out to investigate the effects of different polyaniline layers and the Nafion layer on the morphological, chemical, and electrochemical properties of nanocomposite immunosensor, especially the stability. The bioengineered Nafion-Au nanoparticles-polyaniline/gold electrode demonstrated outstanding electrocatalytic performance in the detection of insulin receptor antibodies with a high sensitivity (136.21 µA.ng−1.ml.cm−2) in a linear range from 0.001 to 200 ng.ml−1 as well as a low detection limit of 1.827 pg.ml−1, response time within 10 min, remarkable selectivity, and significant stability of 80 days. Abstract: A numerical study of the crushing of thin-walled circular aluminum tubes has been carried out to investigate their behaviors under axial impact loading. These kinds of tubes are usually used in automobile and train structures to absorb the impact energy. A Multi-Objective Optimization of circular aluminum tubes undergoing axial compressive loading for vehicle crash energy absorption is performed for five crushing parameters using the weighted summation method. To improve the accuracy of the optimization process, artificial neural networks are used to reproduce the behavior of the crushing parameters in crush dynamics conditions. An explicit finite element method (FEM) is used to model and analyzed the behavior. A series of aluminum cylindrical tubes are simulated under axial impact condition for the experimental validation of the numerical solutions. A finite element code, capable of evaluating parameters crush, is prepared of which the outputs are used for training and testing the developed neural networks. In order to find the optimal solution, a genetic algorithm is implemented. With the purpose of illustrating optimum dimensional ratios, numerical results are presented for thin-walled circular aluminum AA6060-T5 and AA6060-T4 tubes. Multi-Objective Optimization of circular aluminum tubes has been performed in the basis of different priorities to create the ability for designer to select the optimum dimension ratio. A new hybrid particle swarm optimization enhanced multilayer perceptron (PSO-MLP) neural network and design of experiment have been employed to model and predict such a beneficiation result. Based on the CCD-RSM response surfaces, the effectiveness of variables on both evaluation criteria was determined to be DS > FI > SG. The mutual interaction between DS-SG was a common interaction for both responses, while FI-DS interaction was found to be significant only for separation efficiency. Compared to the desired levels of the statistical evaluators, the trained PSO-MLP outperformed the CCD-RSM model in predicting the hematite beneficiation results. A method for synthesis of high aspect ratio platelet seeds by growth of SrTiO3 on Sr3Ti2O7 core particles is reported. The aim of this study was to identify and control the morphology and size of SrTiO3 particles via molten salt synthesis. Platelet and tabular morphologies with rectangular faces were obtained using rutile and anatase, respectively. Platelet SrTiO3 particles with an edge length of 10–40 μm and a thickness of 1–4 μm were obtained. High aspect ratios (edge length to thickness) of 7–10 were measured for platelet particles as opposed to lower aspect ratios of 2–4 for tabular particles. Today, the use of polymer electrolyte membranes (PEMs) possessing ionic liquids (ILs) in middle and high temperature polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (MT-PEMFCs and HT-PEMFCs) have been increased. ILs are the organic salts, and they are typically liquid at the temperature lower than 100 °C with high conductivity and thermal stability. The membranes containing ILs can conduct protons through the PEMs at elevated temperatures (more than 80 °C), unlike the Nafion-based membranes. A wide range of ILs have been identified, including chiral ILs, bio-ILs, basic ILs, energetic ILs, metallic ILs, and neutral ILs, that, from among them, functionalized ionic liquids (FILs) include a lot of ion exchange groups in their structure that improve and accelerate proton conduction through the polymeric membrane. In spite of positive features of using ILs, the leaching of ILs from the membranes during the operation of fuel cell is the main downside of these organic salts, which leads to reducing the performance of the membranes; however, there are some ways to diminish leaching from the membranes. The aim of this review is to provide an overview of these issues by evaluating key studies that have been undertaken in the last years in order to present objective and comprehensive updated information that presents the progress that has been made in this field. Significant information regarding the utilization of ILs in MT-PEMFCs and HT-PEMFCs, ILs structure, properties, and synthesis is given. Moreover, leaching of ILs as a challenging demerit and the possible methods to tackle this problem are approached in this paper. Ground motion amplitude, frequency content, and duration are commonly identified as the main features of seismic waves affecting structural demand. Among these parameters, earthquake duration can have a substantial influence on assessment of structural seismic demand. The paper proposes a new empirical model for predicting the significant duration of ground-motion records in Turkey. Significant duration is an important parameter in determining the damage potential of earthquakes and is defined as the time interval between two specific values of Arias intensity. The proposed model is as function of moment magnitude ( M w ), Joyner-Boore distance ( R jb ), time-averaged shear-wave velocity in the top 30 m ( V S 30 ), and fault mechanism ( F m ). In the regression process, a database consisting of 850 records from 408 earthquakes in Turkey is used. According to the physics of the problem, mixed effect regression is employed. Next, besides residual analysis, comparison of the mean values with the other prediction models are performed. Air pollution in metropolises is one of the serious problems of human life. Tehran is one of the cities facing air pollution problem. Urban managers concern about choosing different management methods to control air pollution. In this study, a combination of fuzzy systems and neural networks has been used to select the most suitable scenario for controlling SO 2 pollution. According to the method presented in this paper, 8 input data categories such as wind speed, precipitation, temperature, pressure, humidity, gas oil consumption, gasoline consumption and urban green space levels have been used as independent parameters and SO 2 pollutant concentration has been considered as the dependent parameter. The contribution of each meteorological station to the meteorological data was determined by Thiessen Polygon Method. Then, using adaptive neural fuzzy inference systems, modeling was done in Sugeno Method and the least root mean square error (3.19) was determined for the model. Then, by changing each of the independent parameters, the effect of each of these independent parameters on SO 2 pollutant was measured. The results showed that the parameters of pressure, urban green space, gasoline consumption, gas oil consumption, temperature, wind speed and humidity, respectively, had the greatest effect on reducing the SO 2 concentration. The cardiovascular dysfunctions in postmenopausal diabetic women increase relative to premenopausal women. In this study we evaluated protective effects of selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), alone and in combination with estrogen (E2) in diabetic rats with menopausal model. Female rats groups are included: Sham-Control (CTL), Diabetes (DM), and ovariectomized rats divided to DM, DM + Vehicle (Veh), DM + Tamoxifen (TAM), DM + Raloxifene (RLX), DM + Veh + Oil, DM + Oil, DM + E2, DM + E2 + Veh, DM + TAM + E2, DM + RLX + E2. DM was induced by high fat diet and followed by a light dose of streptozotocin. SERMs and E2 were administrated for four weeks after establishment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Our results depicts that, T2DM increased triglyceride, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, and fasting blood glucose. Also it decreased high-density lipoprotein, which had exacerbated by ovariectomy. These changes were reversed by using SERMs, E2 and SERMs+E2, although combinatory treatment is more effective than individual treatment. Additionally the cardiovascular indices were also significantly disrupted in ovariectomized diabetic rats, but all therapeutic groups equally improved these disturbances, whereas in TAM + E2 group, the atherogenic index was more decreased than TAM group. We concluded that SERMs treatment, individual or in combination with E2 in menopausal model can be efficient substitute for E2 replacement therapy. In the current study, we prepared chitosan (Cs)/Alginate (Alg) hydrogel containing Berberine (Ber)-loaded Cs nanoparticles (NPs) and Naringin (Nar)-loaded Cs NPs as the promising biomaterials for peripheral nerve regeneration. The Ber- and Ner-loaded NPs were synthesized via the ion gelation method and incorporated into Cs/Alg hydrogel. The characterizations of NPs showed that Ber-loaded NPs have an average size of 594 nm with the encapsulation efficacy (EE) of 51.6 ± 7.4%, and Nar-loaded NPs have an average size of 636 nm with EE of 47.1 ± 5.8%. The pore size of Cs/Alg hydrogel and Cs/Alg/Ber/Nar hydrogel were 22 ± 11 and 32 ± 13 μm, respectively. It was observed that the swelling and weight loss value of the prepared hydrogels were suitable for nerve regeneration. The compression strength of Cs/Alg hydrogel and Cs/Alg/Ber/Nar hydrogel were 39.7 ± 4.7 kPa and 32.08 ± 6.8 kPa. The releasing measurement showed a burst release at the first days following a sustained release of up to about 90% for 24 days. The in vitro studies illustrated that the hydrogels were hemo- and biocompatible with the significant proliferative effect on PC12 cells. The animal studies showed that the treatment using the hydrogels significantly promoted nerve regeneration. Treatment of the damaged nerve using Cs/Alg/Ber/Nar hydrogel resulted in the sensory function recovery (hot plate latency of 4.66 ± 0.57 s), the motor function recovery (sciatic index function of −14.6 ± 3.7) and anatomical healing (the gastrocnemius muscle cross-sectional area of 2509 ± 142 μm2). • Commercial embryo tested mineral oils may have a deleterious or sub lethal effects on sheep embryo viability. • Toxic mineral oil has a time and dose dependent effect on membrane integrity, cleavage and blastocyst rate. • Well plate is a good option for reducing the effects of mineral oil toxicity on cleavage and blastocyst rate. Mineral oil (MO) as a barrier can minimize temperature, osmolality and pH fluctuation in the oocyte/embryo culture medium. Regardless of these advantages, MO acts as a potential source of embryo-toxic compounds which can affect embryo viability. This study was conducted to assess the signs and effects of the four-well culture dish (FW) and microdrop culture systems (MD) on reducing the harmful effects of mineral oil during the in-vitro production of sheep embryos. Oocytes retrieved from abattoir-derived ovary were in-vitro matured, fertilized and cultured in MD and FW, overlaid with two different lots of mouse embryo tested mineral oils (SMO1; nMD = 133, nFW = 103, and SMO2; nMD = 137, nFW = 144) and a clinically tested mineral oil (OMO; n = 107) as a control group. The results showed that using SMO1 and SMO2 in the MD can dramatically decrease cleavage and blastocyst rates. Although they did not show any membrane damage after IVM and 24 h after IVF, the sign of damage was appeared at 48 h after fertilization and completely destroyed the blastomere membrane at 72 h after fertilization, while the FW did not affect membrane integrity. Background and Objectives: Probiotics are added into the food or feed systems and provide beneficial effects to the human or animal health. This study aimed to isolate the gastrointestinal native Lactobacillus strains with high probiotic, cholesterol-assimilation and aflatoxin-degradation capabilities from native chickens. Materials and Methods: About 70 Lactobacillus isolates were isolated from ileum of the Fars province native chickens and were investigated for their probiotic properties. Results: Of 70 Lactobacillus isolates, 10 showed high probiotic capabilities, including survival at acidic conditions (pH up to 2.5), tolerance of 0.5% bile and 6-10% NaCl salts, growth in a wide range of temperature from 15 to 45°C, antagonistic effects against different important bacterial pathogens (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus mutans, Clostridium defficile, Enterococcus hirae, Salmonella enterica and Staphylococcus aureus) and sensitivity to some important antibiotics. The selected strains had an aggregation time less than 120 min. The 16S-rDNA sequencing showed that the selected strains were highly related to Lactobacillus reuteri and L. casei. Finally, the selected strains in this study along with 10 other probiotic strains isolated and characterized in our pervious study were used to evaluate their cholesterol assimilation and aflatoxin B1 degradation capabilities. The potentials of cholesterol assimilation of the selected strains were significantly different (P<0.05) and ranged from 2.3% to 99%. The highest content of cholesterol assimilation was obtained in isolates M20 and M4 with more than 98% absorption. Moreover, four strains 43, OR7, M21 and OR9 were able to absorb AFB1 with 58.6%, 52.33%, 47% and 31.6% efficiency respectively. Abstract: Chickens fed 200ppb aflatoxin from 10 days of age were evaluated for their immune response to a modified live infectious laryngotracheitis vaccine. Vaccination was administered at age 4 and 12 weeks. Antibody titers to the vaccine were reduced in chickens given dietary aflatoxin. After 7 weeks, aflatoxin feeding was continued for one month in a treated group and was withdrawn in another. Serology indicated significant differences between the two treated groups relative to whether aflatoxin was fed or not. Significant reduction in body weights, antibody titers and elevated SGOT and SGPT levels were found in chickens treated with aflatoxin. The impact of aflatoxin on reduced body weight, decreased SGOT and SGPT levels and lower antibody titers was shown to be significant in the treated group fed on a ration of aflatoxin until throughout the experiment. Calcineurin-B-like proteins (CBLs) are essential components of the calcium signaling network and act during plant's response to stress and normal conditions. A combined research strategy of in-silico analysis and gene silencing experiment was employed to investigate the role of different classes of CBLs in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) during the response to drought stress. Two different classes of CBL genes, including SlCBL3-1 , and SlCBL3-2 , with the minimum and a maximum number of drought-responsive cis-elements, were selected and were targeted for transient gene silencing in tomato followed by the drought treatment. The effect of silencing events was evaluated by determining of further growth and physiological traits in plants under both control and drought stress conditions. The results showed that silencing of SlCBL3-1 significantly reduced shoot and root growth, relative water content (RWC), and the concentration of pigments while increased free radical accumulation, lipid peroxidation, and leakage from the cells. On the other hand, no antioxidant enzyme activity or proline induction was triggered in plants after SlCBL3-1 silencing. Some of these adverse events were more significantly enhanced when the silenced plants were exposed to drought stress. Overall, a significant role for SlCBL3-1 in the life cycle of plant suggested under both normal and stress conditions. The SlCBL3-2 silencing showed more efficient plants recovery from silencing or drought stress conditions. Therefore, SlCBL3-2 gene may act as a negative regulator under stress conditions. The magnetic moment (g‐factor) of the electron is a fundamental quantity in physics that can be measured with high accuracy by spectroscopy in Penning traps. Its value has been predicted by theory, both for the case of the free (unbound) electron and for the electron bound in a highly charged ion. Precision measurements of the electron magnetic moment yield a stringent test of these predictions and can in turn be used for a determination of fundamental constants such as the fine structure constant or the atomic mass of the electron. For the bound‐electron magnetic‐moment measurement, two complementary approaches exist, one via the so‐called "continuous Stern–Gerlach effect", applied to ions with zero‐spin nuclei, and one a spectroscopic approach, applied to ions with nonzero nuclear spin. This study aimed to assess the anatomical variations of the mandibular symphysis in a normal occlusion population using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). This retrospective cross-sectional study evaluated 200 CBCT scans of patients aged =17 with class I occlusion, 1-3 mm overbite and overjet, and <3 mm crowding. The CBCT scans were obtained with NewTom 3G scanner with the exposure settings of 110 kVp, 1.2 mA, 5.4 s time, and six-inch field of view and saved in NNT Viewer. The anterior loop length, labial bone thickness, mandibular bone height at the symphysis, and cortical bone thickness at the right and left canine teeth and central and lateral incisors were measured and compared between males and females and different age groups using one-way ANOVA. The intra- and inter-observer agreements for all landmarks were ICC >0.9 (excellent). The mean length of the anterior loop in females was significantly greater than that in males (P=0.02). Different age groups had significant differences in cortical bone width at the site of the left canine (P=0.03) and vertical bone height at the site of the right central incisor (P=0.05). The majority of parameters related to the mandibular symphysis were greater in normal occlusion males than females. Preoperative CBCT assessment of the mandibular symphysis can greatly help in diagnosis and treatment planning as well as bone harvesting from this area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Makran complex in southeast Iran provides a spectacular subduction-related accretionary complex to understand the mechanism of oceanic accretion and the evolution of subduction zones. In this paper, we present new major and trace element data as well as isotopic compositions of mafic volcanic blocks from the Makran ophiolitic mélange complex (OMC). Our aim is to assess the genesis of these rocks and discuss their implications on the evolution of Neotethys Ocean. These volcanic blocks are composed mainly of basalts with minor trachytes. The Makran lavas are occasionally interlayered with tuff layers. Zircons from these tuffs give U-Pb ages of 95 Ma, which is well in accordance with the reposted microfossil data for the interlayered pelagic limestones with pillow lavas. Makran basalts can be geochemically subdivided into four groups; normal to transitional MORB, enriched-MORB, Plume-type MORB and alkaline (-OIB-like) basalts. The OIB-like pillow lavas are represented by high values of Th/Tb (6.3–7.4) which are higher than other basalts (group 1 = 0.3–0.8; groups 2 = 0.7–1.6; group 3 = 1.58–1.36).143Nd/144Nd(t) ratios for basalts ranges from 0.51247 to 0.51292, whereas 87Sr/86Sr(t) isotopic composition of the OMC lavas varies from 0.704433 to 0.709466. The Pb isotopic composition of the lavas are quite high, ranging from 15.49–15.66 for 207Pb/204Pb(t), 18.09–19.12 for 206Pb/204Pb(t) and 37.80–39.23 for 208Pb/204Pb(t). The chemistry of these rocks suggests that they were formed most likely in an oceanic setting with clear plume-ridge interaction. These rocks can form from partial melting of a highly heterogeneous mantle source, which is extensively metasomatized with deep mantle OIB-type components. We suggest these rocks have been generated in an oceanic ridge with plume-ridge interaction, similar to the Iceland-Reykjanes Ridge, before being fragmented and accreted into the Makran accretionary complex. This article proposes and demonstrates a fault-detection method to locate interturn short circuits (ITSCs) in the stator windings of a brushless doubly fed induction machine (BDFIM). The detection of ITSC is important in machine health prognostics as ITSC is an early stage fault that may lead to other faults such as coil-to-coil and coil-to-ground. BDFIM consists of power and control windings in the stator that are magnetically coupled through a nested-loop rotor winding. Existing ITSC detection algorithms use rotor slot harmonics in stator current spectra as fault indicators for only conventional doubly fed induction machines. However, these algorithms cannot be applied to BDFIM due to its different stator/rotor winding structure. This article primarily proposes a new analytical formulation for the nested-loop rotor slot harmonics (NRSHs) as ITSC fault indicators in BDFIMs. Using NRSHs, a detection algorithm is also proposed to detect and locate ITSC in power/control windings of BDFIMs. The proposed algorithm is verified based on numerical analysis of a BDFIM using the finite-element method. The accuracy of the proposed fault-detection algorithm is also experimentally investigated and demonstrated using a BDFIM test rig. Background: Tobacco expenditure has adverse impacts on expenditure on basic needs and resource allocation of the households. Using data from a nationally representative survey, we measured socioeconomic inequality in tobacco expenditure as the share of household budget (TEHB) and explained its main determinants among Iranian households at the national and sub-national levels. Methods: This cross-sectional study used data from the Iranian Household Income and Expenditure Survey (IHIES), 2018. We included a total of 7649 households with tobacco expenditure more than zero in the analysis. Province-level data on the Human Development Index (HDI) was obtained from the Institute for Management Research at Radbound University. The concentration curve (CC) and the concentration index (C) were used to measure socioeconomic inequality in TEHB at national and sub-national levels. The C was decomposed to identify the factors explaining the observed socioeconomic inequality in TEHB. Results: At the national level, households with at least one smoker spent more than 5% of their budget for tobacco consumption in the last month. Households from the urban areas allocated less of their budgets on tobacco products compared to rural households (4.6% vs. 5.8%). Overall, TEHB was more concentrated among the poorer households (C = 0.1423, 95% CI: − 0.1552 to − 0.1301). In other words, the distribution of TEHB was pro-poor in Iran. Pro-poor inequality in TEHB was also found in urban (C = − 0.1707, 95% CI: − 0.1998 to − 0.1516) and rural (C = − 0.1314, 95% CI: − 0.1474 to − 0.1152) areas. We also found that pro-poor inequalities were higher in Iranian provinces with low HDI. The decomposition results indicate that wealth and education were the main factors contributing to the concentration of TEHB among the poorer households. Conclusion: This study found that TEHB was disproportionality concentrated among poorer households in Iran. The extent of inequality in TEHB was higher in urban areas and less developed provinces. Designing and implementing tobacco control interventions to decrease the smoking prevalence and increase smoking cessation could protect worse-off households against the financial burden of tobacco spending. Purpose: The aim of this study was to measure individual exposure to noise and its effect on the levels of lipid peroxidation and enzymatic antioxidant defense. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 94 male workers working in a food factory in Shahroud, Iran, were selected as the case group and 112 people were also included as the control group. The level of exposure to noise was measured using a dosimeter and the equivalent level was calculated. The levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), catalase (Cat), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) were measured in the serum samples of all participants. Independent t test, one-way ANOVA, and multivariate linear regression were used to analyze the data. Results: The levels of MDA, Cat, and TAC were significantly higher in staff exposed to noise than in the controls. The starch and warehouse units' staff were exposed to the highest (99.3 ± 3.23 dB) and lowest (77.1 ± 9.68 dB) mean levels of sound pressure. Based on the linear regression model, noise exposure level was the most important predictor variable for levels of MDA (β = 0.48, CI 95% = 0.04–0.93), Cat (β = 0.43, CI 95% = 0.05–0.83), and TAC (β = 0.11, CI 95% = 0.06–0.16). Conclusions: Noise exposure increases the production of free radicals. As exposure rate increases, the levels of MDA, Cat, and TAC enzymes increase as well. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) causes an acute and highly contagious immunosuppressive response in young chickens by targeting B lymphocytes in immune organs. Changes in regulatory T-cell ratio and apoptosis have been demonstrated during IBDV infection in these cells. The possible change in CD19 expression as the precursor of B cells after IBDV replication was detected in this study. Raji cells were infected with an IBDV isolate at MOIs of 1.0 and 3.0. The viral kinetics were determined using the characteristic virus-induced CPE, cell viability, and infectious titer. Induction of apoptosis and also changes in the CD19 expression within the virus infection were assessed by flow cytometry. The Raji cells were found to be susceptible to IBDV infection by producing marked CPEs dependent on MOI. The infectivity titers were determined in intra- and extracellular samples at the defined hours. The kinetics of early IBDV replication in Raji cells were nearly identical for both MOIs, but a significant difference in the infectivity titer was observed at 48 hpi. The quick apoptotic events were observed to be significantly higher in MOI 3.0, which was correlated with the lower virus titer. A significant CD19 expression change in the IBDV-infected Raji cells was revealed. The results suggested that Raji cells mimic the IBDV replication in lymphoid organs and the virus replication is related to CD19 expression frequencies in the lymphoid cells. • IBDV targets the medullary bursa in the avian host with a preference for B cells. • Raji cell line has the potential for IBDV replication and support higher viral growth titers. • Changes in Bregs expression be suitable in monitoring IBDV replication in a B cell-originated cell line. • The change in the level of CD19 marker is closely associated with IBDV infection. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by core symptoms including impairment in social communication and restrictive and repetitive behaviors and interests. Music has emerged in the past decade as an intervention therapy for children with ASD. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of music on cognition impairments in the valproic acid (VPA) rat model of autism. The VPA was administered for animal modeling of autism on embryonic day 12.5 (E12.5) (600 mg/kg). Male and female pups were sub divided into four main groups (Saline.Non‐music, VPA.Non‐music, Saline.Music, and VPA.Music). The rats in the music groups were exposed to Mozart's piano sonata K.448 for 30 days (4 h/day), from postnatal day (PND) 21 to 50. Autistic‐like behaviors were tested using a social interaction, the Morris water maze (MWM), and a passive avoidance tasks at the end of the PND 50. Our results demonstrated that VPA‐exposed rat pups had significantly lower sociability and social memory performance compared with the saline‐exposed rats in both sexes. VPA‐exposed rat pups exhibited learning and memory impairments in the MWM and passive avoidance tasks. Our results demonstrated that music improved sociability in VPA‐exposed rats, especially in males. Furthermore, our findings revealed that music improved learning impairments in VPA‐exposed male rats in MWM task. In addition, music improved spatial memory impairments in VPA‐exposed rats of both sexes. We also found that music improved passive avoidance memory impairments in VPA‐exposed rats of both sexes, especially in females. More investigation in future studies are needed. A new inverter control approach, called enhanced virtual synchronous machine (eVSM), is proposed based on the VSM concept. Unlike existing VSM approaches, the eVSM does not emulate the rotating inertia based on an assumption of the unlimited energy storage, but it deploys the physically existing inertia of the dc-link element. The eVSM adopts an innovative way of enlarging the inertia utilization range, which obviates the need for having a large dc-link element or a dedicated battery storage system, while still providing the same inertia response of an equivalent synchronous machine. Theoretical developments and numerical results presented in this paper confirm that the proposed eVSM can present a stabilizing support to the grid similar to a synchronous machine despite the small size of its dc-link element. Moreover, its transient responses can be improved beyond those of conventional synchronous machines thanks to the possibility of more flexibly adjusting damping and governor functions. Exposure to extremely low-frequency electromagnetic fields (ELF-EMF) is inevitable in some industries. There are concerns about the possible effects of this exposure. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of chronic exposure to extremely low-frequency electromagnetic fields on sleep quality, stress, depression and anxiety among power plant workers. In this cross-sectional study, 132 power plant workers were included as the exposed group and 143 other workers were included as the unexposed group. The intensity of ELF-EMF at work stations was measured by using the IEEE Std C95.3.1 standard and then the time weighted average was calculated. Sleep quality, stress, depression and anxiety were measured by using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index Questionnaire; and the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale. The workers in the exposed group experienced significantly poorer sleep quality than the unexposed group. Depression was also more severe in the exposed group than the unexposed group (P = 0.039). Increased exposure to ELF-EMF had a direct and significant relation with increased stress, depression, and anxiety. Sleep quality in technicians with the highest exposure was significantly lower than the other groups. The growth and physiological parameters of fourteen tomato cultivars were measured during both mild and severe drought. The tomato cultivars showed decrease in growth traits, relative water content and pigments content under both drought treatments compared with the control. By contrast, proline accumulation, malondialdehyde and electrolyte leakage increased in the cultivars. The activity of superoxide dismutase was more correlated to drought stress than those of ascorbate peroxidase or catalase. The combined approach of principal component analysis, hierarchical clustering analysis and calculating mean tolerance value showed relative differences in drought tolerance among the cultivars. The studied cultivars were clustered into four groups. Four cultivars were placed in cluster I as the drought-tolerant group. Moderately tolerant cultivars were grouped into Cluster II. The clusters III and IV represented the sensitive and highly sensitive cultivars, respectively. Early orbana, Roma and Cal-j cultivars were indicated as the highly sensitive tomato cultivars. The femoral head in subjects with leg calve perthes disease (LCPD) is generally considerably deformed. It is debatable whether this deformation is due to an increase in applied loads, a decrease in bone mineral density or a change in containment of articular surfaces. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of these factors on deformation of the femoral head. Two subjects with LCPD participated in this study. Subject motion and the forces applied on the affected leg were recorded using a motion analysis system ( Qualsis TM ) and a Kistler force plate. OpenSim software was used to determine joint contact force of the hip joint whilst walking with and without a Scottish Rite orthosis. 3D Models of hip joints of both subjects were produced by Mimics software . The deformation of femoral bone was determined by Abaqus . Mean values of the force applied on the leg increased while walking with the orthosis. There was no difference between bone mineral density (BMD) of the femoral bone of normal and LCPD sides ( p -value>0.05) and no difference between hip joint contact force of normal and LCPD sides. Hip joint containment appeared to decrease follow the use of the orthosis. It can be concluded that the deformation of femoral head in LCPD may not be due to change in BMD or applied load. Although the Scottish Rite orthosis is used mostly to increase hip joint containment, it appears to reduce hip joint contact area. The mucous layer that covers the intestinal absorptive surface acts as a diffusive barrier between the intestinal lumen and absorptive cells. In this report, we studied the effect of changing the body weight, intestinal mucin2 gene expression and number of goblet cells by feeding 1-d-old chicks a control diet or a diet containing either an antibiotic growth promoter or dietary essential oils (clove, coriondrum, artemisia sieberi and myrtle) at three levels. On day 42 of age two birds from each replicate were randomly selected, weight and then slaughtered. Goblet cell number was analyzed from each preparation. Mucin2 mRNA expression in intestinal jejunum tissue was quantitated using real-time quantitative PCR. We found that body weights were increased in chicks fed antibiotic and essential oil treatments compared with those fed control diet at 42 days of age (P<0.01). Dietary essential oils increased the mucin2 gene expression in the jejunum compared with the control treatment (P<0.05). In dietary essential oils fed chicks, the number of goblet cells was decreased in the small intestine compared with control treatment (P<0.05). These results indicate that essential oils altered processes of mucin biosynthesis via changes in the intestinal mucin2 gene expression and number of goblet cells. Due to its strategic location, the Astara fault system (AFS), which is located in Iran, has given rise to a number of earthquakes. In spite of its frequent seismic events, limited information is available for AFS. Slip rate is one of the important variables for future scrutiny of seismic risk of this fault system. The main objective of this research is to study slip rates at intermediate and short terms for this fault system using geological, geodetic observations and empirical method. Using the geological data, the intermediate-term horizontal and vertical slip rates for AFS have been determined to be 2.8±0.2 and 0.27±0.03 mm/year, respectively. In addition, the short-term slip rates of the fault, based on the geodetic method (using displacement values of two GPS stations: HASH and DAMO) and assuming attenuation of 60% (to fold the sediment of South Caspian Basin and shortening of Talesh Mountain range), determined to be 1.23±0.03 and 2.05±0.05 mm/year for the horizontal and vertical slips, respectively. Finally, evaluation of the slip rate using empirical relationship yields 10 mm/year for the entire fault system, which seems rather implausible. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Clathrin-coated vesicles (CCVs) play critical roles in multiple cellular processes, including nutrient uptake, endosome/lysosome biogenesis, pathogen invasion, regulation of signalling receptors, etc. Saccharomyces cerevisiae Ent5 ( Sc Ent5) is one of the two major adaptors supporting the CCV-mediated TGN/endosome traffic in yeast cells. However, the classification and phosphoinositide binding characteristic of Sc Ent5 remain elusive. Here we report the crystal structures of the Sc Ent5 N-terminal domain, and find that Sc Ent5 contains an insertion α′ helix that does not exist in other ENTH or ANTH domains. Furthermore, we investigate the classification of Sc Ent5-N 31−191 by evolutionary history analyses and structure comparisons, and find that the Sc Ent5 N-terminal domain shows different phosphoinositide binding property from r Epsin1 and r CALM. Introduction: Neuropsychological manifestations are increasingly reported in patients with COVID-19, but the subject is poorly understood and our knowledge about cognitive impairment is limited. This study aimed to investigate neuropsychological involvement of COVID-19 and its relation to laboratory data. Material and methods: This study was conducted among patients admitted to a tertiary medical center in Iran, in the period March 2020 to March 2021. Neuropsychiatric assessments were carried out by the Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination (ACE) test in all patients and interpreted by a specialist. It was performed using the Persian version of ACE in six domains consisting of attention, orientation, memory, language, visual perception and visuospatial skills. Laboratory data were assessed among all patients. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS. Results: Among 114 patients with COVID-19, the mean age was 48.46 ±13.61 years, and the male/female ratio was 1.32. The mean values of some abnormal laboratory data were: erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) 57.2 ±29.8, C-reactive protein (CRP) 81.7 ±59.8 and D-dimer 459.3 ±395.4. Cognitive impairment was detected in 41 patients (63%). The mean score of ACE was 80.68 ±19.29. Statistical analysis showed correlations between total result of the ACE test and laboratory findings that were not statistically significant. Conclusions: In our study, no relation was found between laboratory test results and the overall cognitive examination score but statistical analysis showed a correlation between CRP and verbal fluency, between hemoglobin level and language and visuospatial domains, and also between total level of bilirubin and memory. The hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla (Thunb). Ser.), an ornamental plant, has good marketing potential and is known for its capacity to change the colour of its inflorescence depending on the pH of the cultivation media. The molecular mechanisms causing these changes are still uncertain. In the present study, transcriptome and targeted metabolic profiling were used to identify molecular changes in the RNAome of hydrangea plants cultured at two different pH levels. De novo assembly yielded 186,477 unigenes. Transcriptomic datasets provided a comprehensive and systemic overview of the dynamic networks of the gene expression underlying flower colour formation in hydrangeas. Weighted analyses of gene co-expression network identified candidate genes and hub genes from the modules linked closely to the hyper accumulation of Al3+ during different stages of flower development. F3′5′H, ANS, FLS, CHS, UA3GT, CHI, DFR, and F3H were enhanced significantly in the modules. In addition, MYB, bHLH, PAL6, PAL9, and WD40 were identified as hub genes. Thus, a hypothesis elucidating the colour change in the flowers of Al3+-treated plants was established. This study identified many potential key regulators of flower pigmentation, providing novel insights into the molecular networks in hydrangea flowers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
