Indeed, between 10 and 30 GPa, the average Mg-O distances in MgSiO SB 3 sb and Mg SB 2 sb SiO SB 4 sb glasses follow roughly the same trend, with r SB (Mg-O) sb in MgSiO SB 3 sb glass somewhat larger, suggesting that at the same pressure Mg-O polyhedra in Mg SB 2 sb SiO SB 4 sb glass are under more compression. The initial compression ( I K i SB T sb 0) is dominated by the response of Mg-O polyhedra, which, at >15 GPa, help transmit pressure onto the SiO SB 4 sb tetrahedra, causing the Si-O coordination number to increase at a similar rate to that in SiO SB 2 sb glass, with significantly increased rigidity. Figure 2a summarizes the structural modifications by compression based on Raman mode changes: (1) a discontinuity of Raman peaks at ~900 and ~512 cm SP -1 sp at ~8 GPa; (2) the emergence of a new peak at ~600 cm SP -1 sp at ~8 GPa; (3) a discontinuity of the 1096 cm SP -1 sp peak at ~20 GPa; (4) the emergence of a new peak at ~360 cm SP -1 sp at 20 GPa; and (5) the emergence of a new peak at 860 cm SP -1 sp at 40 GPa. Abstract Allergy today is a public health concern of pandemic proportions, affecting more than 150 million people in Europe alone. In view of epidemiological trends, the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) predicts that within the next few decades, more than half of the European population may at some point in their lives experience some type of allergy. Not only do allergic patients suffer from a debilitating disease, with the potential for major impact on their quality of life, career progression, personal development and lifestyle choices, but they also constitute a significant burden on health economics and macroeconomics due to the days of lost productivity and underperformance. Given that allergy triggers, including urbanization, industrialization, pollution and climate change, are not expected to change in the foreseeable future, it is imperative that steps are taken to develop, strengthen and optimize preventive and treatment strategies. Allergen specific immunotherapy is the only currently available medical intervention that has the potential to affect the natural course of the disease. Years of basic science research, clinical trials, and systematic reviews and meta-analyses have convincingly shown that allergen specific immunotherapy can achieve substantial results for patients, improving the allergic individuals’ quality of life, reducing the long-term costs and burden of allergies, and changing the course of the disease. Allergen specific immunotherapy not only effectively alleviates allergy symptoms, but it has a long-term effect after conclusion of the treatment and can prevent the progression of allergic diseases. Unfortunately, allergen specific immunotherapy has not yet received adequate attention from European institutions, including research funding bodies, even though this could be a most rewarding field in terms of return on investments, translational value and European integration and, a field in which Europe is recognized as a worldwide leader. Evaluation and surveillance of the full cost of allergic diseases is still lacking and further progress is being stifled by the variety of health systems across Europe. This means that the general population remains unaware of the potential use of allergen specific immunotherapy and its potential benefits. We call upon Europe’s policy-makers to coordinate actions and improve individual and public health in allergy by: Promoting awareness of the effectiveness of allergen specific immunotherapy Updating national healthcare policies to support allergen specific immunotherapy Prioritising funding for allergen specific immunotherapy research Monitoring the macroeconomic and health economic parameters of allergy Reinforcing allergy teaching in medical disciplines and specialties The effective implementation of the above policies has the potential for a major positive impact on European health and well-being in the next decade.

This article presents a theoretical path for small communities to reverse rising tides of crime and addiction by means of a community reinforcement approach. Vancouver's Chinatown offers an ideal opportunity for praxis due to the current enthusiasm of city planners in reviving this section of the city. At its highest level, we interpret a community's revitalization to include progress toward individuation as a collective, accompanied with increased opportunities for self-fulfillment among its residents. Therefore, as a foundation for the suggested community reinforcement approach, we first apply the humanistic theories of Jung as a means to enhance the integration of Chinatown's collective consciousness. This article examines the cultural attitude of reluctance in the United States, as reflected in recent opinion polls and federal budgets, toward agency spending in relation to addiction prevention, treatment, and research. The author posits that the prevalent spiritual lens, through which addiction is widely perceived, contributes to hesitancy in committing more to these areas of public funding. Its etiological interpretation of addiction, as a spiritual/moral disease that is innate to afflicted individuals, essentially releases culture and society from accountability for its prevalence. Further, publicity surrounding the New Recovery Advocacy Movement might lead to a complacent belief that a radical movement, addressing addiction on a broad, collaborative, and socioeconomic scale is already occurring. In order to widen the scope of spirituality as it generally pertains to addiction and accommodate the potentialities embedded in positive social change, the construct of spirituality needs to expand beyond the narrow and culturally entrenched notion of inner personal growth through individual effort. Therefore, this paper advances participatory spiritual theory as a means to integrate the reciprocity of socioeconomic and political factors as well as social engagement within a spiritual framework for recovery from addiction.
