This study analyzed the impact of location, accreditation, and faculty size on the ranking of elite business schools. It used descriptive statistics and inferential analysis (analysis of covariance) to establish the effect of location on the business schools' ranking while also controlling the influence (impact) of the covariates (accreditation and faculty size) on the outcomes. It found that location and accreditation type do not significantly affect the business schools' ranking. The size of the faculty impacted the rankings of the programs. However, the pairwise comparison of the critical factors shows that faculty size and accreditation are more impactful in European business schools than in China, the United States/Canada, and other regions. Finally, smaller business schools (mainly in Europe) pursue Triple Crown accreditation to compete with more extensive, U.S.-based programs, favoring only the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business accreditation.

Gendered bias in peer-review and other forms of assessments is a well-studied area. But how do researchers actually execute their positions of power in recruitment processes? In Sweden, recruitment for academic tenure and the reviewers' reports are public and thus open for scrutiny. This study uses both bibliographic coupling and close reading of three cases of reviewers' reports to map cognitive closeness, distance and particularities as intrinsic aspects of peer review. All these concepts point towards the fact that reviewers are researchers as well. Their own research interests are both what makes their expert assessment possible as well as an aggravation, which calls for 'situated knowledges': a reflection of why and how they make the particular recruitment decisions they do. The cases are read against the backdrop of the emerging neoliberalisation of Swedish academia. At the breaking point between traditional academic ideals and neoliberal accounts of concepts like 'research quality', different forms of masculinities are struggling for hegemony, while the system's lack of transparency creates disadvantage for women academics.

This study illuminates the motivation and learning experience of Chinese and European academic members who attended an educational leadership training programme. Data were collected through participants' registration forms and learning reflection reports. A qualitative content analysis research method by MAXQDA2022 is adopted in this research. The findings revealed European and Chinese participants' motivation for joining the leadership training programme and their perceived effectiveness of the training programme. Drawing from the study's findings, this research examines the components of a culturally appropriate methodology for a cross-cultural professional leadership training programme and provides insights into the interplay of factors that impact the perceived effectiveness of such a leadership training programme. Additionally, recommendations for future program design are offered.

A recent review of literature indicated limited research about the preparation of doctoral students in early intervention/early childhood special education (EI/ECSE). The purpose of this pilot study was to address this gap in research and investigate the mentorship of doctoral students who participated in the Division for Early Childhood's Consortium for Innovations in Doctoral Excellence (DECIDE). Mentors and mentees who participated in the DECIDE Mentoring Initiative participated in focus groups and interviews to share their mentoring experiences and provide suggestions for the mentorship of doctoral students. Qualitative research methods were used to analyze themes. Findings indicated (a) shifts in power dynamics occurred between the mentor and mentee dyad, (b) mentoring infrastructures may be beneficial, (c) mentoring relationships are unique for each dyad, and (d) further research is needed to investigate the mentoring needs of students from culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse backgrounds.

Purpose: The educational community -- particularly higher education -- should contribute to the new generation's understanding of what sustainability entails. To do this, teachers must be aware of the need for education for sustainability. However, little is known about how university teachers understand or represent sustainability. This study aims to bridge the gap identified in the literature concerning university teachers' representation of sustainability. Design/methodology/approach: A total of 403 teachers from the University of the Basque Country participated in the study through a free association exercise based on the grid elaboration method. Findings: In general terms, teachers are aware of the three dimensions that constitute sustainability, but differences were found in the way sustainability was represented depending on several factors such as the teaching field, previous knowledge of the 2030 Agenda and gender. Despite awareness of the need to incorporate sustainability, there was also reticence toward the way in which sustainability is being addressed in higher education. Those results were discussed considering the previous literature on sustainability. Practical implications: The results allow the authors to conclude that knowledge of the 2030 Agenda leads teachers to have a more complete representation and greater recognition of sustainability. Thus, it would be necessary for universities to offer more training to teachers to promote a holistic understanding of sustainability and facilitate its incorporation into teaching. Originality/value: The use of this method made it possible to collect, in a less biased and much more direct way, the teachers' voices, to know the type of representation (holistic) or partial (only one of its dimensions: environmental, economic or social) that they have of sustainability, and to check whether their representation was linked to specific factors.

Statistical software is commonly used in undergraduate social sciences statistics courses. Due to the increase in online/hybrid courses and the cost of SPSS, instructors may wish to switch to another statistical software. We cover seven programs: Excel, Google Sheets, jamovi, JASP, PSPP, R, and SOFA. We compare programs using the following criteria: ease of download, quality of online instructions, availability of instructor resources, sophistication of analyses available, ease of use, operating system requirements, whether it uses point-and-click or code, and whether a VPAT is available. Adopting new course materials is a valuable part of instruction but time-consuming. Therefore, this review provides information about commonly available or free open-source programs so instructors can choose based on the needs of their students and/or institutions.

Debates continue about the positioning of design within research-driven universities. While the idea of autonomy has had a strong appeal, it is the bridging across established academic cultures that has proved especially effective for legitimizing design research and research education. Revisiting a conception of design as a 'Third Space' and drawing on a case - the Swedish Faculty for Design Research and Research Education (2008-2015) - we discuss what 'thirdness' can entail in context. Our account of this case reveals the unsettled dynamics of navigating in, between and across academic cultures. Design research education, we argue, has prospects to cultivate a critical space within academia, in which its 'thirdness' entails sensitization and agitation of the territorial conditions of knowledge. There is a need for a reconsideration of design - and academia more generally - not as a static disciplinary order but as a contested archipelago that opens for alternative orientations.

In this article, the authors posit that generative artificial intelligence offers universities an opportunity to make long-needed structural changes in teaching and learning. Given the complexities of generative AI, faculty need time and resources to learn to use it effectively and to adapt classes in ways that help students approach AI ethically and critically. There must be creative thinking in developing AI-powered learning assistants, adaptive learning systems, faculty assistants, and other tools to improve learning and to aid time-pressed instructors. Recommendations are offered for the implementation of generative AI so universities can focus on inclusiveness, transparency, privacy, and safety with unwavering commitment to centering human interaction and improving teaching and learning quality.

Although online courses have been a part of academia for nearly 30 years, they are still perceived as "different" than face-to-face instruction. Through in-depth interviews with four instructors, we explored how STEM faculty approach teaching asynchronous online undergraduate STEM courses. The faculty interviewed for this study viewed online courses as "not regular class[es]" and teaching those classes as "not teaching per se." Each of the instructors had assumptions about what a classroom was and about good instruction, but even for instructors who taught online for multiple years, those assumptions remained grounded in the face-to-face environment. There is a need for greater discussion about what it means to teach in an online environment.

This study surveyed 445 primary, secondary, and higher education teachers to understand their usage of AI tools in the classroom. Results revealed that while teachers generally have a positive attitude toward AI in education, only 25% of them have actually incorporated AI-based tools into their teaching. Moreover, the most common used tools were ChatGPT, Dall-E, and Midjourney. Finally, primary and secondary school teachers mainly use AI for content creation purposes such as presentations, texts, or videos, without emphasizing student engagement with AI tools. In contrast, higher education teachers utilize AI for academic-technical purposes, explaining AI functioning, obtaining information, and enabling students to experiment with AI tools, as well as research-related tasks like text translation, or data analysis. Based on these results, AI training programs for educators should be tailored to each stage, incorporating a wider variety of AI tools beyond the commonly used ones like ChatGPT.

Faculty often report limited student engagement in their economics courses. This deficiency makes it challenging for educators to excite students about our field, a situation that could have ripple effects in terms of the number of students who graduate as economics majors. For students, the lack of classroom engagement makes it unappealing to attend lectures and may hamper their learning outcomes. This article offers essential ideas, tools, activities, and resources that have been carefully filtered, curated, and annotated to lower the startup costs for new economic educators to maximize student engagement and interactions in their economics classrooms. Additionally, the resources presented in this article can be leveraged by more seasoned educators looking for ways to take their teaching to the next level.

As there is a paucity of instrument investigating a hybrid teaching conception, the current study is seen as part of attempt to fill this gap. The subjects in the study were 310 University participants--instructors in Socialist Republic of Viet Nam (Vietnam). The survey was implemented with the use of Cognitive Constructivism-oriented Teaching Conception Questionnaire (CCOTCQ), including two scales, namely, teachers' beliefs and teachers' intentions of actual practice. Each is inclusive of three factors: Teaching, Teacher, and Students. Exploratory factor analysis was applied to the data and identified three dimensions. The confirmatory factor analysis model was good for both scale of teachers' beliefs and that of their intention of actual practice. The Pearson correlation analysis found a significant relationship in the results for the scale of teachers' beliefs and that of their intentions of actual practice.

Although the crucial role of the diaspora in scientific research and postgraduate training in Africa has been well documented, much less is known about their role in undergraduate STEM education. In this case study, we reflect on our experiences of i) adapting the content of training in order to complement local expertise and needs; and ii) adopting active learning pedagogies in an undergraduate laboratory workshop a during a short-term diaspora fellowship. For diaspora scholars, we find that it is important to align foreign and local curricular objectives at the program and course level, to adopt and adapt local models and reagents to the extent possible, and to leverage expertise in host institutions to co-teach courses. Undergraduate participants valued the active learning approach and hands-on training with equipment. A case is made for academic diaspora to begin to consider undergraduate teaching as a high-return investment when collaborating in the global south.

Educational professionals are not ordinary everyday critics using experiential expertise to comment on practice. Instead, they are critical researchers who are concerned with debates about the purposes of education, social justice and equity, and how research is vital to understanding and explaining change. Using the reflexive views of six educational professionals interplayed with my own research career I examine what this means in reality, and I consider how and why such critical research is subject to criticism, but how doctoral studies not only confront this but also develop significant ways of thinking and doing as professionals.

This article reports on a mentoring case from a transdisciplinary, longitudinal writing-across-the-curriculum (WAC) initiative in which the situated complexities of integrating new writing pedagogies were observed and supported. Considering this case through an agential realist lens, we introduce the concept of "discursive turbulence": an emergent quality of situated semiotic activity produced from the continual mixing of discourses. Discursive turbulence can emerge in myriad and complex ways, including fits-and-starts of pedagogical development, mismatched discursive alignments, affective signs of struggle and intensity, and nonlinear patterns of change. Through a series of four vignettes, we illustrate discursive turbulence as it emerged while pedagogical changes around writing were being implemented by an environmental sciences professor. We suggest that discursive turbulence is to be expected in heterodisciplinary spaces, and we argue that attention to discursive turbulence will lead to more robust accounts of learning, becoming, and literate activity, as well as new ways of supporting pedagogical becoming.

Introduction: Understanding the extent to which faculty members' beliefs, attitudes, and acceptance of educational technologies for learning is crucial for enhancing the effectiveness of technology and ensuring its long-term viability. However, higher education institutions have made significant investments in educational technology for learning without fully comprehending faculty members' beliefs, attitudes, and level of acceptance of these technologies. This lack of understanding has hindered the effectiveness of these investments. Therefore, this study aims to examine faculty members' beliefs, attitudes and level of acceptance towards educational technology in higher education institutions in Ethiopia. Methods: A survey was conducted at five public higher education institutions that offer priority health training programs. The survey collected data using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology, focusing on four key determinants. Faculty members were asked to rate these determinants on a scale of 1 to 5. Each determinant was analyzed separately, examining the mean value and standard deviation. An overall mean score was calculated by combining all the determinants. Additionally, a logistic regression analysis was performed to determine how different demographic factors influenced faculty members' acceptance of technology for student learning. Result: A total of 330 faculty members participated in the study. The majority of respondents were male lecturers who held a second degree qualification. On average, the participants were 32.9 years old and had six years of teaching experience. Interestingly, nearly three fourth (72.6%) of faculty members hold positive beliefs and exhibit a high level of acceptance of educational technology. Furthermore, the likelihood of accepting and utilizing technologies for learning was found to be 2.3 times higher for faculty members working in teaching settings at research institutions. Conclusion: Faculty members have a favorable attitude towards educational technology, demonstrating a high level of acceptance. This positive belief holds significant implications and is crucial for enhancing the effectiveness of technology and ensuring its long-term viability.

This paper provides an overview of the literature exploring the realities of contingent faculty at U.S. universities and colleges with a focus on STEM. We focus our review of the literature by exploring the experiences of Latinx/é contingent faculty in STEM and propose a series of conceptual frameworks that can be used to explore the hidden professional realities of this population. A focus on the field of STEM, via a deeper exploration of the literature, points to the evolution of contingent faculty in the disciplines and the diversity of the roles they currently fill at our universities and colleges. This paper draws on various frameworks for exploring the experiences of contingent faculty.

External program review is often considered the "gold standard" approach to evaluating academic programs in higher education. Despite the importance of program review, skepticism persists regarding its ability to meaningfully engage faculty and have sustaining impact on program improvement. This paper builds on the academic Program Review Learning Community conceptual model and presents a process for applying a project management facilitation technique that leverages a course structure. The Program Review Course allows for multiple programs to be reviewed concurrently as part of an interdisciplinary cohort. Within the cohort, faculty teams gain access to templates, information sessions, workshops, and discussion forums, with opportunities for engagement both within and across multiple disciplines. Using learning modules, this approach is designed to create efficiency and collaboration in delivering program review tools and customized supports. Utilizing a course structure for program review fits well with a new way to think about program review because successful learning communities are often embedded within institutional structures. Use of this approach is expected to increase clarity and consistency, improve administrative feasibility, provide guidance for those new to program review, promote collegiality within and across programs, and involve team members in the creation of action planning. The authors propose that a course-based approach for conducting program review, with teams of disciplinary faculty joining an interdisciplinary cohort and supported by quality assurance practitioners and educational developers is a novel way to provide structure and academic development while meeting legislative requirements.

Over the past three years, a community of faculty and graduate teaching assistants has developed within the University of Kentucky Mathematics department centered around the use and development of student-centered assessment methods. In this article, we discuss the environmental factors that contributed to the growth of this community, our motivations for engaging in this work, and our surprisingly consistent successes. We conclude by sharing suggestions for experienced instructors interested in building communities around the theme of student-centered assessment methods.

The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore faculty experiences with a professional development (PD) program designed to prepare them for improved online teaching and learning. The primary difference between this PD offering and others similar in content involves using an external vendor. The research question was: how do faculty perceive their experiences in an external PD program designed to prepare them for better online teaching and learning in an intentional community of practice? The researchers selected participants through a purposeful sampling method, collecting narrative data from eight faculty using in-depth, semi-structured interviews. An analysis of collected data revealed four emergent themes: (1) obtaining new knowledge, (2) confirmation of appropriate tools and strategies, (3) mixed learning experience, and (4) community bond. Although the participants' academic backgrounds varied, most faculty obtained new technological and pedagogical knowledge by participating in the PD program. Some participants reaffirmed their previous knowledge; the PD program reinforced appropriate tools and strategies for these faculty members. Additionally, participants had mixed feelings about their learning experience. Some participants perceived the program as beneficial, while others felt the program repetitive. Furthermore, participants perceived a community bond. The investigation concluded with recommendations for future research.

The data-intensive research paradigm calls for using educational and learning data to generate actionable insights and improve the instruction and learning quality. Although previous research designed and employed teaching analytics or learning analytics tools, few research had incorporated multiple data sources to assess the overall teaching and learning processes comprehensively. To address this gap, we proposed a teaching and learning analytics (TLA) tool that integrated multiple data sources from the instructor and students during educational process, leveraged multiple analytic methods to visualize results and provide supportive feedforward, with the goal to provide data-driven evidence for educational improvement. Mixed methods were conducted from quantitative and qualitative ways to examine the tool's effects on actual instruction and learning processes. Our results showed that the designed TLA tool with feedforward suggestions had positive effects on instruction, learning, and instructor-student interactions. Based on the results, this research proposed implications for TLA tool design and pedagogical strategies.

Background: The National Science Foundation Research Initiation in Engineering Formation (RIEF) program aims to increase research capacity in the field by providing funding for technical engineering faculty to learn to conduct engineering education research through mentorship by an experienced social science researcher. We use collaborative autoethnography to study the tripartite RIEF mentoring relationship between Julie, an experienced engineering education researcher, and two novice education researchers who have backgrounds in biomedical engineering--Paul, a biomedical engineering faculty member and major professor to the second novice, Deepthi, a graduate student. We ground our work in the cognitive apprenticeship model and Eby and colleagues' mentoring model. Results: Using data from written reflections and interviews, we explored the role of instrumental and psychosocial supports in our mentoring relationship. In particular, we noted how elements of cognitive apprenticeship such as scaffolding and gradual fading of instrumental supports helped Paul and Deepthi learn qualitative research skills that differed drastically from their biomedical engineering research expertise. We initially conceptualized our tripartite relationship as one where Julie mentored Paul and Paul subsequently mentored Deepthi. Ultimately, we realized that this model was unrealistic because Paul did not yet possess the social science research expertise to mentor another novice. As a result, we changed our model so that Julie mentored both Paul and Deepthi directly. While our mentoring relationship was overall very positive, it has included many moments of miscommunication and misunderstanding. We draw on Lent and Lopez's idea of relation-inferred self-efficacy to explain some of these missed opportunities for communication and understanding. Conclusions: This paper contributes to the literature on engineering education capacity building by studying mentoring as a mechanism to support technically trained researchers in learning to conduct engineering education research. Our initial mentoring model failed to take into account how challenging it is for mentees to make the paradigm shift from technical engineering to social science research and how that would affect Paul's ability to mentor Deepthi. Our experiences have implications for expanding research capacity because they raise practical and conceptual issues for experienced and novice engineering education researchers to consider as they form mentoring relationships.

Previous research on faculty publication venue choice at R1 institutions reveals tension between the benefits of open access and institutional pressure for faculty to publish in specific journals for review purposes. How does this tension percolate through regional campuses with different institutional priorities, and what can these contexts reveal about publishing practices and priorities for different kinds of faculty? In this study, the authors used content analysis on transcripts of interviews of sixteen faculty from regional campuses of an R1 institution to better understand the perception of open access publications as a venue choice.

This project explored perceptions of ChatGPT in higher education among students and faculty to assess teaching and learning implications of this Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI)-based novel tool. Two theoretical frameworks inspired the project, including "Diffusion of Innovation theory" (Rogers, 1962) and "Technology Acceptance Model" (Davis, 1989). An online survey was completed by 380 participants (N = 380). Participants indicated that they would not use ChatGPT to plagiarize but believed others would. When asked to rate the accuracy of ChatGPT's output, more than half took the incorrect output as correct/somewhat correct or could not tell whether it was correct or incorrect. Results varied based on participant demographics, including age, gender, and occupation. These findings support the need for data literacy. If Generative AI is to be used in higher education to aid in the learning process, it is imperative to continue teaching critical thinking.

Education curricula need constant updates in response to job market requirements, which may be influenced by the changing technological environment. In the library and information science (LIS) job market there are dynamics brought about by the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). These dynamics call for LIS schools to reconsider their curricula in line with the job market. The job markets expect the education system to reflect their demands, as they are the primary clients. This study explored the education and training of LIS professionals on digital scholarship in line with the LIS curriculum in higher education institutions of South Africa. This was to enable the development of a framework for incorporating digital scholarship into the LIS curriculum. Wolf's (2007) curriculum development model and an aspect of the customer satisfaction model (Zeithaml et al., 1993) informed the study. The models assisted in producing a framework that can be used to incorporate digital scholarship content into the LIS curriculum in South Africa. The framework suggests that when developing digital scholarship, consultation with relevant stakeholders both internal and external should be considered. Relevant infrastructure and resources should also be in place when developing a digital scholarship curriculum. The relevant infrastructure should include the 4IR-driven infrastructure such as smart sensors, three-dimension (3D) modeling, and cybersecurity tools, among others. Relevant documentation such as resources in the form of policies, course outlines, and other curriculum-related documents should also be consulted. This model, if adopted, could assist LIS schools in developing a curriculum that is driven by digital scholarship, leading to the production of LIS graduates that meet the requirements of the current LIS job market.

Adoption of Maker programs entails deep cultural and structural changes within schools. In this case study, we interviewed a principal and seven faculty members in a high school in the United States, after the first year of implementing making-centered curricula. We report how faculty members responded to the reform, their motivations and beliefs, and the concomitant shifts in power and status. We found that educators are required to make non-trivial adaptations to their skills, instructional approaches, and pedagogical beliefs, and that successful adaptation may lead them to gain status, resources, and support within the school. Those are gained on account of technical expertise and educators' efforts to promote the vision of the reform. The extent to which faculty members adapt to a reform, accommodate and support others in their process of adapting, or resist it, may determine whether the reform is successful or not. As such, school leaders face the challenge of encouraging faculty to buy into such reforms. The case study provides a unique perspective on Maker-centered reforms and outlines important implications for administrators seeking to implement similar programs.

Narratives of international educational exchange programmes such as the US-sponsored Fulbright and the Commonwealth-centred Carnegie grants reveal the formative role these exchanges played in extending the geographical, scholarly, and professional boundaries of women's worlds. Notably, these award schemes influenced, shaped and expanded the career aspirations and professional experiences of a group of women from Australia and New Zealand. In this article, we take up the question of the distinctive opportunities each programme presented for women awardees and consider their differing experiences primarily due to the specific programme on which they embarked. We argue that the extent to which participation in an exchange programme might have provided benefits to individual Australian and New Zealand women could also become the spur for awardees to advocate for an expansion of opportunities for other women. Furthermore, we consider whether hidden obstacles existed that hindered women's career pathways and successes.

Medical interpreters are crucial to ensure fair and high-quality healthcare for patients with limited English proficiency (LEP). Despite the need to use high-quality medical interpreters to communicate with LEP patients, medical schools often do not adequately educate their students on how to work with interpreters. This study seeks to investigate the efficacy of using peer-assisted learning to teach medical students how to properly use medical interpreters. Moreover, the study strives to elucidate if an interactive peer-led model can be an effective teaching modality to train medical students about the basics of using medical interpreters. A pre- and post-training design was utilized to investigate the efficacy of peer-assisted learning in teaching medical students how to use interpreters. Second year medical students led a two-part workshop consisting of the following: (1) a didactic training session and (2) a practical session where learners interacted with Spanish-speaking standardized patients through an interpreter. Pre-training and post-training responses to survey questions were analyzed to determine changes in student comfort, confidence, and knowledge of best practices when using a medical interpreter. There was a statistically significant increase in comfort and confidence with using interpreters after receiving peer-assisted training. A peer-led didactic training followed by an interactive training session can increase student comfort and confidence with using medical interpreters in clinical settings. Peer-assisted-learning may be an effective way to teach some of the best practices of using medical interpreters.

The lack of connectedness experienced by college students during the COVID-19 pandemic was problematic. An innovative approach undertaken in a (virtual) graduate classroom at Clemson University was the concept of team teaching. Team teaching allows a group of instructors to work together to enhance student learning. Upon course completion, students (N =57) completed a brief survey regarding their perceptions of team teaching. The scale ranged from extremely positive (1) to extremely negative (5). The sample as a whole found team teaching to be a positive experience (M =1.87, SD =0.94), felt that team teaching assisted in their learning (M =1.51, SD =0.72), and found value to having two instructors (M =1.6, SD =0.76). Overall, based on the results, team teaching is a strategy that should be considered in virtual classroom environments as it can provide students with increased support and varying perspectives.

Employability skills are a significant concern for both graduates and practitioners. However, there is limited research on identifying and prioritizing factors affecting employability from experts' perspectives, particularly in emerging economies. To prioritize the perceived employability skills of stakeholders', a hybrid fuzzy AHP-TOPSIS approach was used from the perspective of subject experts rather than just relying on the student's perspective. Criteria and sub-criteria are identified and finalized with the help of the literature and the expert's opinions. 45 experts' (industry, academician, and students) opinions are taken into consideration. Secondly, fuzzy AHP is implemented to get the weights of identified criteria and sub-criteria to rank them. Thirdly, these weights are used in the fuzzy TOPSIS approach to rank the five alternatives. 'Soft Skills' is the most important criteria and 'Personal Qualities' is the least important criteria having the normalized weight of 0.355 and 0.043 respectively. The most important sub-criteria among all sub-criteria are 'Innovation Skills' followed by 'Methodological Skills'. The least important sub-criteria is 'Self-Esteem'. This unique empirical study identifies factors impacting graduate employability, prioritizes criteria and sub-criteria, and recommends the optimal candidate using an integrated fuzzy AHP-TOPSIS approach.

To investigate the pending problem and improve the effectiveness of online classrooms in the post-COVID-19 era, researchers conducted semi-structured interviews with 41 teachers from China, the Philippines, and other countries who have experienced long-time online classrooms. The research indicated that (1) all problems the teachers face in the online classroom can be classified into two types, including internal problems (the problems in teachers' teaching, students' learning, classroom discipline, and students' psychology) and external problems (the problems in hardware and equipment, school management, education equity and privacy protection, and family interference). (2) To better improve online classroom effectiveness, teachers strongly call for a series of reforms, including the reform of school management, curriculum and teaching, after-class instruction, and psychological support, which require schools, teachers, and parents to work together to make fundamental improvements. (3) Educational equity issues caused by economic development level, long-term inefficient online interaction, and various internal contradictions are the fundamental reasons why the previous problems existing in the online classroom have not been solved. Teachers, schools, educational researchers, and government departments need to deeply study and analyze these reasons, which will help solve a series of past and present problems in the online classroom.

This paper outlines how digital technologies support innovation in teaching and learning the English language across Palestinian Higher Education Institutes. A European project collaborated to build staff capacity in knowledge and skills, shown here through the redesign of curricula, pedagogical training, the design and implementation of interactive textbooks, the creation of language labs, helping to develop expertise in creating and utilising Open Educational Resources (OER) and significantly, the development of individual agency as a form of OER. In this paper, we draw on three years of data to present a model for teacher innovation showing how digital innovation is firstly "personal at a practitioner level" and shaped by need, before becoming driven by "collaboration at an organisational level" with like-minded colleagues. Shared practice at this level can lead to community discourse through practitioner networks, which in turn can lead to dialogue initiating instances of "organisational change". This resonates with literature which shows innovation has three outcomes: "originality" (practitioner-based agency); "scale" (going beyond the site of creation) and "value" (how this produces benefits for others). We perceive that the resulting capacity-building extends beyond the redesign of curricula mentioned to professional enrichment, collegiality through cascading innovation to other areas, and enhanced practitioner agency.

To promote social justice, doctoral programs can implement policies that support underrepresented students' success. Drawing on critical multicultural theory, we surveyed early-career social work faculty (N = 127) about experiences within their doctoral programs, and analyzed how perceptions differ based on their social identities, part-time student status, or outside work responsibilities. Descriptive results, independent samples t-tests, Mann-Whitney U tests, and linear regression analyses suggest that social work doctoral programs support students through scholarly communities, academic mentors, and cohorts. Respondents experienced limited support relating to their development of professional skills like teaching or applying for funding, and even less relating to their social and emotional wellbeing. Our findings can help professional organizations and doctoral programs develop a healthier, more inclusive professoriate.

Students experience challenges with persistence, retention, graduation, and overall academic success in colleges and universities, particularly when courses are taught by adjunct instructors. Using a sample of 21,274 student results in three different general education disciplines from 2010 to 2019, the authors found that there was a disparity between adjunct and full-time faculty members in those key outcomes. The purpose of this study is to analyze data about student persistence, retention, and academic skills and its relationships with type of instructor (adjunct or non-adjunct) to consider the means by which the results may help to respond effectively to negative indicators in those areas. In addition to including adjunct instructors in professional development and student engagement activities on campuses, strategically hiring full-time faculty may result in gains that offset the higher financial outlay for those instructors.

The world relies on authentic research that guides legislation, policy formulations, and governmental and corporate actions. Therefore, researchers globally should be aware of academic integrity and publication ethics. This research delved into plagiarism that severely undermines any scientific study. It explores the relationship between adverse attitudes (attitudes that favor plagiarism) and plagiaristic behavior. We probed deeper into the theories of planned behavior, reasoned action, and ethical theories of rational self-interest, cultural acceptance, and deontology to propose corrective measures as an intervention to reduce adverse attitudes and plagiaristic behavior. Upon empirical testing of the said propositions through two studies (Study 1, n[subscript 1] = 2609; Study 2, n[subscript 2] = 2678), we ascertained a significant negative relationship between corrective measures and adverse attitudes and corrective measures and plagiaristic behavior. We also empirically examined the mediating effect of adverse attitudes on the relationship between corrective measures and plagiaristic behavior. The results confirm the mediation model, in which academics subjected to corrective actions reported reduced plagiaristic behavior through reduced adverse attitudes. The findings further the literature on plagiarism and provide crucial implications for managing plagiaristic behavior among academics. The study also provides specific corrective actions that educational administrators should initiate to ensure academic integrity.

Purpose: Achieving self-directed health care with good health outcomes begins with clients having adequate health literacy (HL) skills. Higher education programs, like communication sciences and disorders (CSD), have a role in cultivating HL. This study examines the speech-language pathology leaders' (administrators and faculty) sense-making of HL for their preparation programs and how/why CSD leaders implement/embed health literacy education (HLE). Method: This qualitative, phenomenological study used a screening survey of U.S. CSD leaders to assess their use of HL strategies, based on the Health Literacy Universal Precautions Toolkit-Second Edition. Ten participants who reported at least medium-frequency HL use were identified and interviewed based on the screening survey responses showing at least medium-frequency HL use. Results: CSD leaders' description and value of HL and explanations of how they implement HLE are described under three themes: HL as communicating so clients understand, HL as personal agency toward well-being, and CSD leaders waiting on others to lead HL conversations. The results indicate that most CSD leaders inaccurately perceive HL as providing health resources with clear and simple communication. Participants value HL as a step toward client empowerment. Despite CSD leaders' acknowledgment that HL holds the promise of self-directed health care, without formal conversations making sense of this significance, HLE occurs intuitively and without much depth. Conclusions: CSD leaders must understand that HL is essential for client empowerment and well-being. This unique study demonstrates that CSD leaders need to increase their knowledge of HL to ultimately help their clients achieve empowerment for optimal health outcomes.

The purpose of this study is to determine if teachers perceive evaluation as providing the motivation and feedback to change classroom practices in a context where teacher evaluation carries varied stakes for tenured versus untenured teachers. This mixed methods case study of four high schools in a single district in North Carolina uses survey and interview data collected from teachers in the 2016-2017 school year to explore teacher perceptions and examine differences between career (tenured) and probationary (untenured) teachers. A conceptual framework is developed utilizing research on how teachers changed practice based on other accountability initiatives. The overall sample of teachers did not perceive the evaluation policy to be high stakes or impacting their practice; however, there were statistically significant differences between the perceptions of tenured teachers and untenured teachers on the survey. Interview statements supported the quantitative findings. The results highlight a need for a better understanding of how evaluation policies may influence teacher practice, particularly among those who have limited career protections, including beginning teachers who lack tenure.

Preliminary investigations reveal that some academic staff find it difficult to adapt use of e-learning facilities for delivery academic duties which could lead to job ineffectiveness. The study, investigated the extent to which e-learning facilities availability, usability and adaptability predict job effectiveness among academic staff of University of Ibadan in order to ensure effective delivery of academic duties. Non-experimental design of correlational research type was adopted. Population comprised lecturers in Faculties, Institutes and Centres in University of Ibadan. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 14 Faculties (48 Departments), 3 Institutes and 2 Centres which are academic units. Five lecturers were randomly selected in each unit, given sample of 265 lecturers. Data was collected using four instruments developed and content validated and ordinal alpha reliability estimated. Three research questions were raised. Data analysis was done using PPMC and Multiple regression. Results showed that availability, usability and adaptability of e-learning facilities had positively significant influence on job effectiveness among academic staff of the University of Ibadan. The study recommended that academic staff should adapt the use of e-learning facilities into their academic work to enhance job effectiveness.

In this paper, we emphasize the value of an online community of practice (OCoP) for bringing together faculty from across disciplines to share and leverage their diverse expertise and perspectives. We examine the transition of an interdisciplinary community of practice through the pivot into an online environment for engagement, communication, and collaboration. Through this paper we describe our individual Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) projects and how we have navigated these projects within the Teaching Scholars OCoP, as well as our reflections and key learnings that have resulted from this sustained collaboration. We contribute key learnings and online strategies which can inform and be tailored by other academics and institutions who are developing online communities of practice as an approach to sustaining educational leadership and change in SoTL research and practice in diverse and distributed contexts.

This paper traces the sociological roots of the 'knowledge turn' and a concept centrally identified with it, 'powerful knowledge', beginning with the work of Basil Bernstein which was subsequently elaborated in a wide range of contexts-of-use in the broad field of curriculum studies. The paper distinguishes different reasons educators have for engaging with curriculum which the paper classifies into 'curriculum of' and 'curriculum for'. It goes on to discuss the particular pathos of specialised knowledge, and suggests ways of dealing with it; and concludes by suggesting paths going forward for bringing curriculum theory and subject didactics into productive dialogue

The pursuit of greater research 'impact' has become embedded within Higher Education, through links to perceived value for money, and reified through institutional auditing processes. Academics are frequently encouraged to use social media to facilitate public engagement and enhance research impact, as it offers the potential to connect with more diverse, non-academic audiences. However, little is known about the relationship between the use of social media and academics' own perceptions of research impact and public engagement in practice. In this paper, an analysis of text responses from a survey of academics (n = 107) is presented. This includes what academics perceive to be examples of high-impact interactions through social media, and how this is mediated by different platforms. The findings have practical implications for social media training for academics and also suggest that institutional definitions of research impact may not account for the range of scholarly engagement social media platforms can facilitate.
