The nonlinear, steady, and mixed convective boundary layer flow and heat transfer of an incompressible tangent hyperbolic non‐Newtonian fluid over an isothermal wedge in the presence of magnetic field are analyzed numerically using the implicit Keller‐Box finite‐difference technique. The entropy analysis due to MHD flow of a tangent hyperbolic fluid past an isothermal wedge and viscous dissipation is also included. The numerical code is validated with previous Newtonian studies available in the literature. Graphical and tabulated results are analyzed to study the behavior of the fluid velocity, temperature, concentration, shear stress, heat transfer rate, entropy generation number, and Bejan number for various emerging thermophysical parameters, namely Weissenberg number (We), power‐law index (n), mixed convection parameter (λ), pressure gradient parameter (m), Prandtl number (Pr), Biot number (γ), Hartmann number (Ha), Brinkmann number (Br), Reynolds number (Re), and temperature gradient (Π). It is observed that velocity, entropy, Bejan number, and surface heat transfer rate are reduced with the increase in the Weissenberg number, but temperature and local skin friction are increased. An increase in pressure gradient enhances velocity, entropy, local skin friction, and surface heat transfer rate, but reduces temperature and Bejan number. An increase in an isothermal power‐law index (n) is observed to increase velocity, Bejan number, and surface heat transfer rate, but it decreases temperature, entropy, and local skin friction. An increase in the magnetic parameter (Ha) is found to decrease temperature, entropy, surface heat transfer rate, and local skin friction, and it increases velocity and Bejan number. The research is applicable for coating materials in chemical engineering, for instance, robust paints, production of aerosol deposition, and water‐soluble solution thermal treatment. Modern magnetic nanomaterial processing operations are progressing rapidly and require increasingly sophisticated mathematical models for their optimization. Stimulated by such developments, in this paper, a theoretical and computational study of a steady magnetohydrodynamic nanofluid over an exponentially stretching/shrinking permeable sheet with melting (phase change) and radiative heat transfer is presented. Besides, wall transpiration, that is, suction and blowing (injection), is included. This study deploys Buongiorno's nanofluid model, which simulates the effects of the Brownian motion and thermophoresis. The transport equations and boundary conditions are normalized via similarity transformations and appropriate variables, and the similarity solutions are shown to depend on the transpiration parameter. The emerging dimensionless nonlinear coupled ordinary differential boundary value problem is solved numerically with the Newton'Fehlberg iteration technique. Validation with special cases from the literature is included. The increase in the magnetic field, that is, the Hartmann number, is observed to elevate nanoparticle concentration and temperature, whereas it dampens the velocity. Higher values of the melting parameter consistently decelerate the boundary layer flow and suppress temperature and nanoparticle concentration. A higher radiative parameter strongly increases temperature (and thermal boundary layer thickness) and weakly accelerates the flow. The increase in the Brownian motion reduces nanoparticle concentrations, whereas a greater thermophoretic body force strongly enhances them. The Nusselt number and Sherwood number are observed to be decreased with an increasing Hartmann number, whereas they are elevated with a stronger wall suction and melting parameter. Inhibition of the dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) has been successful at the preclinical level in controlling myeloid leukemia. However, poor clinical trials warrant the search for new potent DHODH inhibitors. Herein we present a novel DHODH inhibitor SBL-105 effective against myeloid leukemia. Chemical characteristics were identified by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and mass spectroscopy. Virtual docking and molecular dynamic simulation analysis were performed using the automated protocol with AutoDock-VINA, GROMACS program. Human-recombinant (rh) DHODH was used for enzyme inhibition study. THP-1, TF-1, HL-60, and SKM-1 cell lines were used. MTT assay was used to assess cell viability. Flow cytometry was employed for cell cycle, apoptosis, and differentiation analysis. Chemical analysis identified the compound to be 3-benzylidene-6,7-benz-chroman-4-one (SBL-105). The compound showed high binding efficacy toward DHODH with a Gbinding score of 10.9 kcal/mol. Trajectory analysis indicated conserved interactions of SBL-105DHODH to be stable throughout the 200-ns simulation. SBL-105 inhibited rh DHODH with an IC50 value of 48.48 nM. The GI50 values of SBL-105 in controlling THP-1, TF-1, HL-60, and SKM-1 cell proliferations were 60.66, 45.33, 73.98, and 86.01 nM, respectively. A dose-dependent increase in S-phase cell cycle arrest and total apoptosis was observed by SBL-105 treatment in both cell types, which were reversed in the presence of uridine. The compound also increased the differentiation marker CD11b-positive populations in both THP-1 and TF-1 cells, which were decreased under uridine influence. SBL-105, a novel DHODH inhibitor, identified using computational and in vitro analysis, was effective in controlling AML cells and needs attention for further preclinical developments. In thermosfluid dynamics, free convection flows external to different geometries, such as cylinders, ellipses, spheres, curved walls, wavy plates, cones, etc., play major role in various industrial and process engineering systems. The thermal buoyancy force associated with natural convection flows can play a critical role in determining skin friction and heat transfer rates at the boundary. In thermal engineering, natural convection flows from cylindrical bodies has gained exceptional interest. In this article, we mathematically evaluate an entropy analysis of magnetohydrodynamic third-grade convection flows from permeable cylinder considering velocity and thermal slip effects. The resulting non-linear coupled partial differential conservation equations with associated boundary conditions are solved with an efficient unconditionally stable implicit finite difference Keller-Box technique. The impacts of momentum and heat transport coefficients, entropy generation and Bejan number are computed for several values of non-dimensional parameters arising in the flow equations. Streamlines are plotted to analyze the heat transport process in a two-dimensional domain. Furthermore, the deviations of the flow variables are compared with those computed for a Newtonian fluid and this has important implications in industrial thermal material processing operations, aviation technology, different enterprises, energy systems and thermal enhancement of industrial flow processes. Numerous industrial processes such as continuous metal casting and polymer extrusion in metal spinning, include flow and heat transfer over a stretching surface. The theoretical investigation of magnetohydro-dynamic thermally radiative non-Darcy Nanofluid flows through a stretching surface is presented considering also the influences of thermal conductivity and Arrhenius activation energy. Buongiorno’s two-phase Nanofluid model is deployed in order to generate Thermophoresis and Brownian motion effects [1]. By similarity transformation technique, the transport equations and the respective boundary conditions are normalized and the relevant variable and concerned similarity solutions are presented to summarize the transpiration parameter. An appropriate Matlab software (Bvp4c) is used to obtain the numerical solutions. The graphical influence of various thermo physical parameters are inspected for momentum, energy and nanoparticle volume fraction distributions. Tables containing the Nusselt number, skin friction and Sherwood number are also presented and well argued. The present results are compared with the previous studies and are found to be well correlated and are in good agreement. The existing modelling approach in the presence of nanoparticles enhances the performance of thermal energy thermo-plastic devices.

Objective: We quantified the prevalence of vitamin D status in 6-24-month-old underweight and normal-weight children and identified the socio-economic and dietary predictors for status.Design: Cross-sectional, baseline data from a nutritional intervention study were analysed. Multinomial logistic regression was used to estimate the odds of being vitamin D deficient or insufficient with the reference being vitamin D sufficient.Setting: Urban slum area of Mirpur field site, Dhaka, Bangladesh.Subjects: Underweight (weight-for-age Z-score <-2·00) and normal-weight (weight-for-age Z-score ≥-1·00) children aged 6-24 months.Results: Among 468 underweight children, 23·1 % were sufficient, 42·3 % insufficient, 31·2 % deficient and 3·4 % severely vitamin D deficient. Among 445 normal-weight children, 14·8 % were sufficient, 39·6 % insufficient and 40·0 % deficient and 5·6 % severely deficient. With adjusted multinominal regression analysis, risk factors (OR (95 % CI)) for vitamin D deficiency in underweight children were: older age group (18-24 months old; 2·9 (1·5-5·7)); measurement of vitamin D status during winter (3·0 (1·4-6·4)) and spring (6·9 (3·0-16·1)); and maternal education (≥6 years of institutional education; 2·2 (1·0-4·9)). In normal-weight children, older age group (3·6 (1·2-10·6)) and living in the richest quintile (3·7 (1·1-12·5)) were found to be significantly associated with vitamin D insufficiency.Conclusions: The study demonstrates a significant burden of vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency in both underweight and normal-weight children <2 years of age from an urban slum of Bangladesh. Background. Giardia are among the most common enteropathogens detected in children in low-resource settings. We describe here the epidemiology of infection with Giardia in the first 2 years of life in the Etiology, Risk Factors, and Interactions of Enteric Infections and Malnutrition and the Consequences for Child Health and Development Project (MAL-ED), a multisite birth-cohort study. Methods. From 2089 children, 34 916 stool samples collected during monthly surveillance and episodes of diarrhea were tested for Giardia using an enzyme immunoassay. We quantified the risk of Giardia detection, identified risk factors, and assessed the associations with micronutrients, markers of gut inflammation and permeability, diarrhea, and growth using multivariable linear regression. Results. The incidence of at least 1 Giardia detection varied according to site (range, 37.7%-96.4%) and was higher in the second year of life. Exclusive breastfeeding (HR for first Giardia detection in a monthly surveillance stool sample, 0.46 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.28-0.75]), higher socioeconomic status (HR, 0.74 [95% CI, 0.56-0.97]), and recent metronidazole treatment (risk ratio for any surveillance stool detection, 0.69 [95% CI, 0.56-0.84]) were protective. Persistence of Giardia (consecutive detections) in the first 6 months of life was associated with reduced subsequent diarrheal rates in Naushahro Feroze, Pakistan but not at any other site. Giardia detection was also associated with an increased lactulose/mannitol ratio. Persistence of Giardia before 6 months of age was associated with a -0.29 (95% CI, -0.53 to -0.05) deficit in weight-for-age z score and -0.29 (95% CI, -0.64 to 0.07) deficit in length-for-age z score at 2 years. Conclusions. Infection with Giardia occurred across epidemiological contexts, and repeated detections in 40% of the children suggest that persistent infections were common. Background: Early exposure to enteropathogens has been associated with malnutrition in children in low-resource settings. However, the contribution of individual enteropathogens remains poorly defined. Molecular diagnostics offer an increase in sensitivity for detecting enteropathogens but have not been comprehensively applied to studies of malnutrition. Objective: We sought to identify enteropathogens associated with malnutrition in Bangladesh. Design: Malnourished children [weight-for-age z score (WAZ) <-2] aged 6-23 mo in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and identified by active community surveillance were enrolled as cases, and normal-weight children (WAZ >-1) of the same age and from the same community were enrolled as controls. Stools were collected at enrollment and, for cases, after a 5-mo nutritional intervention. Enrollment and follow-up stools were tested by quantitative polymerase chain reaction for 32 enteropathogens with the use of a custom-developed TaqMan Array Card. Results: Enteropathogen testing was performed on 486 cases and 442 controls upon enrollment and 365 cases at follow-up. At enrollment, the detection of enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (OR: 1.39; 95% CI: 1.05, 1.83), Campylobacter spp. (OR: 1.46; 95% CI: 1.11, 1.91), heat-labile enterotoxin-producing E. coli (OR: 1.55; 95% CI: 1.04, 2.33), Shigella/enteroinvasive E. coli (OR: 1.65; 95% CI: 1.10, 2.46), norovirus genogroup I (OR: 1.66; 95% CI: 1.23, 2.25), and Giardia (OR: 1.73; 95% CI: 1.20, 2.49) were associated with malnourished cases, and the total burden of these pathogens remained associated with malnutrition after adjusting for sociodemographic factors. The number of these pathogens at follow-up was negatively associated with the change in WAZ during the intervention (-0.10 change in WAZ per pathogen detected; 95% CI: -0.14, -0.06), whereas the number at enrollment was positively associated with the change in WAZ (0.05 change in WAZ per pathogen detected; 95% CI: 0.00, 0.10). Conclusions: A subset of enteropathogens was associated with malnutrition in this setting. Broad interventions designed to reduce the burden of infection with these pathogens are needed. The influence of a number of emerging non-dimensional parameters, namely the Weissenberg number (We), the power law index (n), Velocity slip (Sf), Thermal jump (ST), Prandtl number (Pr) and dimensionless tangential coordinate (ξ) on velocity and temperature evolution in the boundary layer regime are examined in detail. Furthermore, the effects of these parameters on surface heat transfer rate and local skin friction are also investigated. Validation with earlier Newtonian studies is presented and excellent correlation achieved. This article investigates the nonlinear, steady boundary layer flow and heat transfer of an incompressible Eyring-Powell non-Newtonian fluid from an isothermal sphere with Biot number effects. The transformed conservation equations are solved numerically subject to physically appropriate boundary conditions using a second-order accurate implicit finite-difference Keller Box technique. The influence of a number of emerging dimensionless parameters, namely the Eyring-Powell rheological fluid parameter (ε), the local non-Newtonian parameter based on length scale (δ), Prandtl number (Pr), Biot number (γ) and dimensionless tangential coordinate (ξ) on velocity and temperature evolution in the boundary layer regime are examined in detail. Furthermore, the effects of these parameters on surface heat transfer rate and local skin friction are also investigated. It is found that the velocity and heat transfer rate (Nusselt number) decrease with increasing (ε), whereas temperature and skin friction increase. An increasing (δ) is observed to enhance velocity, local skin friction and heat transfer rate but reduces the temperature. A study to test the toxicity of four products and their mixtures against the cowpea, Aphis craccivora Koch. was carried out under laboratory conditions. The tested products could be descendingly arranged as follows: abamectin, Beauveria bassiana, azadirschtin and potassium silicate. The products are allowed to be used under organic agriculture. Corresponding LC50 values were: 6.265, 48.356, 248.555 and 370.621 ppm; whereas the corresponded LC90 levels were: 23.495, 289.546, 681.287 and 1675.372 ppm, respectively. Toxicity ratios for abamectin and B. bassiana were 17.02 and 8.63, respectively. On the other hand, azadirachtin and potassium silicate had poor effectiveness against the pest, where the toxicity ratio values were 4.04 and 2.98, respectively. According to the toxicity factor the join action between abamectin and azadirachtin at LC25 (+48%) and LC50 (+21.33%) levels, it had potent effect on the pest. The combination between abamectin at LC25 level and potassium silicate at LC25 and LC50 caused additive effect with a toxicity factor +2 and +12%, respectively. Combinations between B. bassiana, at LC25 with azadirachtin, at LC25 and LC50 caused high potency, where the toxicity factors were +69.5 and +58.33%, respectively. Mixtures of B. bassiana at LC25 with potassium silicate at LC25 and LC50 exhibited antagonistic effect on the pest, where the toxicity factor being -29.46 and 4.76%, respectively. Mixtures of B. bassiana at LC25 with abamectin at LC25 gave high potency; whereas mixtures at other levels gave antagonistic effect. Highly reduction in both total carbohydrate trehalase was found in case of treatment with abamectin and azadirachtin mixture. Corresponding reduction rates were 30.08 and 33.7%, respectively. Rauwolfia serpentina (R. serpentina), belonging to the family Apocynaceae, is a renowned medicinal herb for its different pharmacological activities such as antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antiproliferative characteristics. This study has done a comparative assessment of the antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-cancer activity of R. serpentina aqueous leaf extract (RSALE) with encapsulated gold nanoparticles (R-AuNPs). The R-AuNPs are prepared so that they are significant in size, monodispersed, and extremely stable. Their characterization was done by numerous parameters, including UV-visible spectroscopy (528 nm), transmission electron microscopy (~17 d. nm), dynamic light scattering (~68 d. nm), and zeta-potential (~−17 mV). Subsequently, a potent antibacterial activity was depicted via RSALE and R-AuNPs when examined by disc diffusion against various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains. The obtained zones of inhibition of RSALE (100 mg/mL) were 34 ± 0.1, 35 ± 0.1, 28.4 ± 0.01, and 18 ± 0.01, although those of R-AuNPs (15 mg/mL) were 24.4 ± 0.12, 22 ± 0.07, 20 ± 0.16, and 17 ± 0.3 against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923), Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922), Bacillus subtilis (MTCC 8114), and Streptococcus pyogenes (ATCC 19615), respectively. However, no zone of inhibition was obtained when tested against Proteus vulgaris (MTCC 1771). Furthermore, the obtained MIC values for Staphylococcus aureus were 0.91, 0.61, and 1.15 mg/mL; for Escherichia coli, 0.79, 0.36, and 1.02 mg/mL; for Bacillus subtilis 0.42, 0.27, and 0.474 mg/mL; and for Streptococcus pyogenes, 7.67, 3.86, and 8.5 mg/mL of pure RSALE, R-AuNPs, and Amoxicillin (control), respectively, incorporating that R-AuNPs have been shown to have a 1.4-fold, 2.1-fold, 1.5-fold, and 1.9-fold enhanced antibacterial activity in contrast to pure RSALE tested against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Proteus vulgaris, respectively. Additionally, an enhanced antioxidant potential was detected in R-AuNPs compared to RSALE evaluated by the 2,2-Diphenyl-1-Picryl Hydrazyl Radical Scavenging (DPPH) Ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay. The determined IC 50 values of RSALE and R-AuNPs were 0.131 ± 0.05 and 0.184 ± 0.02 mg/mL, and 0.110 ± 0.1 and 0.106 ± 0.24 mg/mL via the FRAP and DPPH assays, respectively. In addition, the anti-cancer activity against the human cervical cancer (Hela) cell line was evaluated, and the MTT assay results revealed that R-AuNPs (IC50 88.3 µg/mL) had an enhanced anti-cancer potential in contrast to RSALE (171.5 µg/mL). Subsequently, the findings of this study indicated that R. serpentina leaves and their nanoformulation can be used as a potent source for the treatment of the above-mentioned complications and can be used as a possible agent for novel target-based therapies for the management of different ailments.

Smoking is well known to be correlated with cardiovascular abnormalities, in particular atherosclerosis and heart diseases. This article investigates the effect and relationship of smoking tobacco on the thickness of the intima–media (IMT) belonging to the common carotid arteries (CCAs), and also blood concentration of the lipid profile (LP), mainly the total cholesterol, High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) and also triglycerides. Nineteen male tobacco smokers and thirty-five healthy male non-smoking Saudi participants were involved in this study after obtaining their informed consent. An ultrasound and a spectrophotometer were used to determine the IMTs and lipid parameters, respectively. The thicknesses of the smokers’ right (RCA) and left carotid (LCA) arteries (0.72 and 0.7 mm, respectively) were significantly greater than the thicknesses of the arteries of the non-smokers (0.58 and 0.62 mm, respectively) (p-value = 0.005 and 0.04). Insignificant differences between the means of the other parameters in the two groups were studied. Smoking is a risk factor for stroke, because it significantly increases the IMTs of both the right and left carotid arteries.

Background: The red-complex bacteria are one of the most significant complexes found simultaneously in subgingival plaque next to the periodontal pocket. The current antibacterial treatment is not adequate, and multidrug resistance to it is developing. Henceforth, the antibacterial effect of the ethanolic extract of Nepeta deflersiana was put to test against red-complex bacteria in patients with chronic periodontitis. Methods: Well diffusion and micro broth dilution procedure by Alamar blue were applied to assess the zone of inhibition (ZOI), the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), and the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC). Anti-virulence efficacies of the plant extract that comprise of adherence and formation of biofilms were examined by the process of adherence and biofilm production assay. Results: The crude extract of Nepeta deflersiana exhibited significant inhibitory outcome against periodontopathic bacteria with noteworthy MIC (0.78–3.12 mg/mL), inhibitory zone (12–20 mm), as well as MBC (3.12–12.50 mg/mL). The N. deflersiana extract inhibited bacterial adhesion ranging from 41% to 52%, 53% to 66%, and 60% to 79% at the given MIC × 0.5, MIC × 1, and MIC × 2 in succession. Substantial suppression was also developed in the biofilm production of the investigated periodontopathic strains following exposure to numerous concentrations of N. deflersianan extract for a period of 24 and 48 h. Conclusion: These outcomes divulge a new concept that N. deflersiana extract can be utilized to manufacture valuable antibacterial compounds to treat chronic and acute periodontitis. This identifies N. deflersiana as an essential natural source for future drug development.
