Background: Extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKTL) is an aggressive lymphoma with a very low incidence in western populations. Objective: To review the clinicopathological features and outcome of a multicentre series of ENKTL in Spain. Materials & methods: A multicentre retrospective study was performed based on cases of ENKTL, collected from 1995 to 2004, from 12 dermatology departments included in the Spanish Lymphoma Study Group. The clinical, histopathological, and evolutive features of all these cases were reviewed. Results: Eighteen patients (three male, 15 female) with median age of 67 years were included in the study. The onset of lesions occurred in the nasal region in 11 patients and on the skin outside this region in the remaining cases. The observed lesions were clinically heterogeneous, corresponding to papules, plaques, and nodules, with or without ulceration. All patients except four received different poly-chemotherapy regimens, either alone (n = 11) or in combination with radiotherapy (n = 4). After a variable follow-up period (1-36 months), only two patients remained alive. One patient was recently diagnosed (four months ago) with ENKTL in the nasal region and the other presented with skin-limited disease. The median overall survival was 9.5 months. Conclusions: The results of this retrospective survey confirm that ENKTL is a rare subtype of lymphoma in the Spanish population. All patients showed an aggressive clinical course and poor prognosis, regardless of the initial clinical presentation. Prospective data on larger series of patients treated homogenously are needed to establish the best treatment modality.

El barrio de El Abasto (Buenos Aires) ha experimentado una notable transformación urbanística durante las últimas dos décadas, derivada de la inversión en el área de una gran cantidad de capital financiero. Esto se ha traducido en una fuerte presión gentrificadora, que amenaza especialmente a los sectores más vulnerables del vecindario. En este artículo se apuesta por el método etnográfico para explorar el efecto diferenciado que este fenómeno ha tenido sobre la población inmigrante del barrio, mayoritariamente de origen peruano. Más allá de la dimensión puramente monetaria, la intervención gentrificadora ha exigido en El Abasto una inversión simbólica en la construcción de un discurso patrimonialista, que presenta a la población inmigrante como usurpadora del espacio. Los datos recabados evidencian que ello se traduce en una mayor exposición de la población inmigrante al problema, y en una tendencia por su parte a desarrollar formas diferenciadas de resistencia a la gentrificación. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

El Abasto supone un caso ejemplar de disputa por la centralidad en Buenos Aires, en el que se superponen los proyectos de recualificación urbana orientados al consumo de clase media y al turismo con la ocupación de viviendas por inmigrantes pobres. Esta situación invita a examinar las distintas concepciones de justicia socio-espacial en conflicto, para lo que se instrumentalizan el concepto de economía moral utilizado por H. P. Thompson y James Scott y la concepción del espacio social popularizada por Henri Lefebvre y David Harvey. La exposición del caso se fundamenta en la combinación de una contextualización de los procesos urbanísticos y sociales desarrollados en el sector con una etnografía que sigue el caso de un edificio de vecinos ocupado por inmigrantes. Key message A holistic approach, molecular and eco-physiological, has provided a better understanding of the response of eucalyptus and poplar genotypes to salt stress. Different tolerance mechanisms with varying degrees of effectiveness as well as differences in the response of genes linked to xylem differentiation have been identified. Abstract We studied the behavior of four eucalyptus genotypes (Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh ‘169’; E. grandis Hill ex Maidenï¿½× E. urophylla S.T. Blake ‘5E’; Eucalyptus globulus Labill ‘Anselmo’ and ‘Odiel’) and four poplar genotypes (Populus alba L. ‘PO 10-10-20’ and ‘J 1-3-18’, P. tremula L.ï¿½× P. alba ‘7171-B4’ and P.ï¿½× canadensis Moench.: ‘Oudenberg’) in relation to their response to saline conditions and their capacity to grow in short rotation for biomass production. For this purpose, plants were grown under greenhouse conditions and subjected to two different saline concentrations of NaCl, one moderate (50�mM) and one severe (125�mM), as well as a control treatment. Growth, as well as several functional, morphological and biochemical parameters were considered. We also performed an expression analysis of genes that encode enzymes and transcription factors involved in wood formation. The four eucalyptus genotypes showed a very high survival rate under both moderate and severe salt treatments, as did both white poplar genotypes (‘PO 10-10-20’ and ‘J 1-3-18’). All of them displayed a tolerant behavior toward salinity stress. In contrast, the poplar hybrids (‘7171-B4’ and ‘Oudenberg’) exhibited medium-tolerance or sensitive behavior. Possible tolerance mechanisms based on stomatal control, water use efficiency, capacity of dilute toxic ions through decreasing the specific leaf area and higher root/aerial biomass ratios were detected. These mechanisms were deemed to have varying degrees of effectiveness. A molecular approach identified changes in the expression of genes linked to xylem differentiation, the more tolerant genotypes being those with fewer modifications. These findings could contribute towards enabling the cultivation of fast-growing species in short rotation on marginal land affected by salinity for the production of lignocellulosic biomass.
