The purpose of this paper is to provide an explicit time-dependent solution for the / /1 k M E queueing system when initially there are "a" customers in the system. The solution is expressed in terms of a generalised modified Bessel function of the second type. Computation results are provided as well as an application of this model to a 24-hour traffic flow profile on the Severn Bridge.
