Abstract

The 5H system was produced in the 3H(t, p) 5H reaction studied at small CM angles with a 58MeV tritium ion beam. High statistics data were used to reconstruct the energy and angular correlations between the 5H decay fragments. A broad structure in the 5H missing-mass spectrum showing up above 2.5MeV was identified as a mixture of the 3/2+ and 5/2+ states. The data also present an evidence that the 1/2+ ground state of 5H is located at about 2MeV. Then, the 5H and 5He systems were explored by means of transfer reactions occurring in the interactions of 132MeV 6He beam nuclei with deuterium. In the 2H( 6He, 3H) reaction a T = 3/2 isobaric analog state of 5H in 5He was observed at an excitation energy of 22.0±0.3MeV with a width of 2.5±0.3MeV. © Società Italiana di Fisica / Springer-Verlag 2005., SCOPUS: cp.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

Abstract

We analyzed the experimental data of the pre-scission neutron multiplicity in connection with fission fragments in the reaction 58Ni + 208Pb at the incident energy corresponding to the excitation energy of the compound nucleus E* = 185.9 MeV, which was performed by DéMoN group. The relation between the pre-scission neutron multiplicity and each reaction process having different reaction time is investigated. In order to study the fusion-fission process accompanied by neutron emission, the fluctuation-dissipation model combined with a statistical model is employed. It is found that the fusion-fission process and the quasi-fission process are clearly distinguished in correlation with the pre-scission neutron multiplicity. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. Abstract

The experimental data on the capture and evaporation residue cross-sections obtained in the 48Ca+208Pb reaction were analyzed in the framework of the dynamical model based on the dinuclear system concept and advanced statistical method to clarify the reaction mechanism. The experimental excitation function of the capture reactions was decomposed into contributions of the fusion-fission quasifission and fast-fission processes. Abstract

Results of the experiments aimed at the study of fission and quasi-fission processes in the reactions 12C+204Pb, 48Ca+144,154Sm, 168Er, 208Pb, 238U, 244Pu, 248Cm; 58Fe+ 208Pb, 244Pu, 248Cm, and 64Ni+ 186W, 242Pu are presented. The choice of the above-mentioned reactions was inspired by the experiments on the production of the isotopes 283112, 289114 and 283116 at Dubna using the same reactions. The 58Fe and 64Ni projectiles were chosen since the corresponding projectile-target combinations lead to the synthesis of even heavier elements. The experiments were carried out at the U-400 accelerator of the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions (JINR, Russia), the XTU Tandem accelerator of the National Laboratory of Legnaro (LNL, Italy) and the Accelerator of the Laboratory of University of Jyvaskyla (JYFL, Finland) using the time-of-flight spectrometer of fission fragments CORSET and the neutron multi-detector DEMON. The role of shell effects and the influence of the entrance channel asymmetry and the deformations of colliding nucleus on the mechanism of the fusion-fission and the competitive process of quasi-fission are discussed. © 2005 American Institute of Physics., SCOPUS: cp.p, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

Abstract

The excited states in the 5H system, which was produced in the 3H(t, p)5H reaction with a 58 MeV tritium beam at c.m. angles were investigated. The reconstruction of the energy and angular correlations between the 5H decay fragments was performed by using high statistics data. It was observed that a broad structure in the 5H missing mass spectrum above 2.5 MeV was identified as a mixture of the 3/2+ and 5/2+ states. Abstract

Nuclear dissipation in capture reactions is investigated using backtracing. Combining the analysis procedure with dynamical models, the difficult and long-standing problem of competition and mixing of quasi-fission and fusion-fission is solved for the first time. At low excitation energy a new protocol able to handle low statistics data gives access to the prescission neutron multiplicity in two different systems 48Ca, + 208Pb, Pu. The results are in agreement with a domination of fusion-fission in the case of 256No and an equal mixing of quasi-fission and fusion-fission in the case of Z = 114. Abstract

Ar+Ni collisions at 77 MeV/u were studied in the experiment E286 performed at GANIL. An important advantage of this experiment was an application of the neutron detector DEMON for registration of both neutral and charged particles. This feature allows to compare characteristics of neutrons and protons detected by the same detector and gives a possibility to determine the influence of the Coulomb field on the proton emission. Estimation of a charge of the emitting source was performed by comparing energy spectra of neutrons and protons detected under identical experimental conditions. The experimental results were compared with the prediction of the SIMON model [D. Durand, Nucl. Phys. A541, 266 (1992)] and Landau-Vlasov model [Z. Basrak, Ph. Eudes, P. Abgrall, F. Haddad. F. Abstract

Measurements of the neutron removal and cluster breakup cross sections for the neutron-rich nuclei 14Be and 14B have been performed at 34.4 and 40.8 MeV/nucleon, respectively. Enhancement of the first chance cluster breakup cross section for 14Be compared to that of 14B provides evidence for a well-developed He cluster structure of the ground state of 14Be. Abstract

The structure of 10Be has been investigated by inelastic scattering to states above the breakup threshold using the reaction 12C(10Be,10Be* → 6He+4/He)12C at Ebeam=302 MeV. Excited states in 10Be were observed at 9.6±0.1 and 10.2±0.1 MeV. No evidence was observed for the population of the 4 + member of the ground-state band of 10Be indicating the shell-model-like structure of the ground state. In addition, the decay of 8Be, 10B, and 11B, populated in the two-neutron, proton pickup, breakup and 1p pickup reactions, was reconstructed through the detection of coincident 4He+4He, 4He+6Li, and 4He+7Li particles. Cross sections for the formation of the 8Be, 9Be, 10B, and 11B were also deduced. Contrary to expectations, the two-neutron removal results in the production of 8Be predominantly (80%) in the first excited (2+) state. We discuss thc fusion-fission process in superheavy mass region. By analyzing the mass distribution of fission fragments, we can distinguish between fusion-fission process and quasi-fission process. We investigate these two processes using the fluctuation-dissipation model. In the dynamical calculation, we employ the three-dimensional Langevin equation. We find 90 ∼ 99% of mass symmetric fission events come from the quasi-fission process in the superheavy mass region. Abstract

Measurements of the breakup and the neutron removal reactions of 16C have been made at 46 MeV/A and the decay cross sections measured. A correlation between the cluster breakup channels and the reaction Q value suggests that the reaction mechanism is strongly linked to quasielastic processes. No enhancement of the two-body cluster breakup cross section is seen for 16C. Abstract

Recently the experiments at Dubna on fission of superheavy nuclei were carried out, and the mass and total kinetic energy distributions of fission fragments were measured. By analyzing the mass distribution of fission fragments, we can distinguish between fusion-fission process and quasi-fission process. We employ three-dimensional Langevin equation. We find almost all of the mass symmetric fission events come from the quasi-fission process in the superheavy mass region. In order to classify the fusion-fission paths and compare with the experimental data directly, we analyze the pre-scission neutron emission in the correlation with fission fragments. Abstract

Nuclear dissipation in capture reactions is investigated using backtracing, a new analysis protocol. Combining analysis procedure with dynamical models, the difficult and long-standing problem of competition and mixing between quasifission and fusion-fission is solved for the first time. The nature of the relevant dissipation is determined as one-body dissipation. Abstract

We have studied mass-energy distributions (MED) of fission fragments using two projectile target combinations, 12C + 204Pb and 48Ca + 168Er, leading to the same compound nucleus 216Ra at the excitation energy E* ∼ 40 MeV. It has been found that the contribution of tine asymmetric mode in the case of the former reaction is 1.5%, and it is 30% in the case of the latter one. We connect such a sharp increase in the yield of asymmetric products in the 48Ca + 168Er reaction with the quasifission process, the MED of which have a clearly expressed shell structure. The characteristics of the fission fragment MED are of such a kind that they can be interpreted by analogy with the low-energy fission of heavy nuclei as a manifestation of an independent mode of nuclear decay which competes with the classical fusion-fission process. © 2003 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica"., SCOPUS: cp.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

Near-barrier excitation functions have been measured for evaporation-residue production and fission in the 12C + 204,206,208Pb and 48Ca + 168,170Er systems that lead to the compound nuclei 216,218,220Ra*. A Pronounced suppression of evaporation-residue production is observed for the more symmetric combinations, 48Ca + 168,170Er. Abstract

A new approach to the production and detection of bound neutron clusters is presented. The technique is based on the breakup of beams of very neutron-rich nuclei and the subsequent detection of the recoiling proton in a liquid scintillator. The method has been tested in the breakup of intermediate energy (30-50 MeV/nucleon) 11Li, 14Be, and 15B beams. Some six events were observed that exhibit the characteristics of a multineutron cluster liberated in the breakup of 14Be, most probably in the channel 10Be+ 4n. Abstract

Spallation neutron production in proton induced reactions on Al, Fe, Zr, W, Pb, and Th targets at 1.2 GeV and on Fe and Pb at 0.8 and 1.6 GeV measured at the SATURNE accelerator in Saclay is reported. The experimental double differential cross sections are compared with calculations performed with different intra-nuclear cascade models implemented in high energy transport codes. The broad angular coverage also allowed the determination of average neutron multiplicities above 2 MeV. Abstract

The breakup of 10,12Be into He clusters has been studied using the p, 12C(12Be,6He,6He) and 12C(12Be,4He,6He) inelastic scattering and two neutron transfer reactions with a 378 MeV 12Be beam incident on 12C and (CH2)n targets. Evidence has been found for three new states in 10Be at excitation energies of 13.2, 14.8, and 16.1 MeV, which may be associated with a 4He+6He cluster structure.
