Quantitative investment theory has emerged as a prominent and widely researched domain within the financial markets, where investors predominantly focus on discerning the intricate influences of market dynamics. In this paper, we proposed a short-term prediction-based trading strategy, which can equiponderate between return and risk, considerations while accounting for investor risk preferences. This strategy employs GM(1,1) to capture nuanced features of price dynamics in short-term intervals and update the GM(1,1) model with the latest data. Subsequently, a multi-objective planning equation is formulated to optimize asset allocations by determining the optimal holding that strikes between specific returns and risk mitigation. In the end, this work conducts a case study and sensitivity analysis using five years of gold and bitcoin price data spanning from 2016 to 2021. This empirical examination serves to affirm the efficacy and resilience of the proposed trading strategy. The case study reveals that proficient short-term price forecasting serves as a potent means to proactively mitigate risk, facilitating, judicious and objective trading practices. Moreover, it underscores the strategy's tangible utility as a guide for real-world investment decisions.

Abstract Rationale Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is thought to be a result of immune dysfunction, which is treated by glucocorticoids such as prednisone. Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP) have immunomodulatory properties, but their role in intestinal immune control is unclear. The major goal of this study was to look at the effects of prednisone on platelet, VIP, and PACAP levels in ITP mice, as well as the regulatory system that controls intestinal immunity. Methods Eighteen BALB/c mice were randomly divided into three groups: blank control group, model control group, and prednisone group, with six mice in each group. The ITP animal model control group and the prednisone group were injected with anti-platelet serum (APS) to replicate the ITP animal model. The prednisone group began prednisone intervention on the 8th day. Platelet count was dynamically measured before APS injection, on the 4th day of injection, on the 1st day of administration, on the 4th day of administration, and at the end of the experiment. After the experiment, the expression of p53 protein in mouse mesenteric lymph node lymphocytes was detected by immunohistochemistry. The changes in lymphocyte apoptosis rate in mouse mesenteric lymph nodes were detected by in situ terminal transferase labeling (TUNEL). The contents of VIP and PACAP in the mouse brain, colon, and serum were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The contents of IFN-γ, IL-4, IL-10, IL-17A in the mouse spleen were detected by ELISA. Results ①Changes of peripheral platelet count: there was no significant difference in platelet count among the three groups before modeling; on the 4th day, the platelet count decreased in the model control group and prednisone group; on the 8th day, the number of platelets in model control group and prednisone group was at the lowest level; on the 12th day, the platelet count in prednisone group recovered significantly; on the 15th day, the platelet count in prednisone group continued to rise. ②Changes of VIP, PACAP: compared with the blank control group, VIP and PACAP in the model control group decreased significantly in the brain, colon, and serum. Compared with the model control group, the levels of VIP and PACAP in the brain, colon, and serum in the prednisone group were increased except for serum PACAP. ③Changes of mesenteric lymphocytes: the expression of p53 protein in the mesenteric lymph nodes of model control group mice was significantly higher than that of blank control group mice. After prednisone intervention, the expression of p53 protein decreased significantly.④Changes of cytokines in spleen: compared with blank control group, IFN- γ, IL-17A increased and IL-4 and IL-10 decreased in model control group. After prednisone intervention, IFN- γ, IL-17A was down-regulated and IL-4 and IL-10 were upregulated. Conclusions Prednisone-upregulated VIP and PACAP levels decreased P53 protein expression and apoptosis rate in mesenteric lymph node lymphocytes and affected cytokine expression in ITP model mice. Therefore, we speculate that the regulation of intestinal immune function may be a potential mechanism of prednisone in treating ITP.

With the introduction of tertiary oil recovery technology, polymer oil drive technology has effectively improved the recovery rate of crude oil, but the resulting oilfield wastewater-containing polyacrylamide (PAM) is viscous and complex in composition, which brings difficulties to wastewater treatment. The treatment of this kind of wastewater has become an urgent problem to be solved, and the removal of PAM is the key. In this paper, a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) co-catalyst was used to treat PAM-containing solutions to investigate the effect of different catalytic reaction systems on the degradation of PAM. The morphological changes of the PAM solution before and after the reaction were also studied by the environmental electron microscope scanner (ESEM), and the information of the functional groups in the solution before and after the reaction was studied by infrared spectroscopy analysis of the PAM solution. The degradation rate rose by 26.3% in comparison to that without discharge when AC/Mn + TiO2 and Al2O3 were combined and catalyzed at a mass ratio of 2:1 and a discharge period of 300 min. The degradation rate rose by 19.3 and 6.8%, respectively, in comparison to AC/Mn + TiO2 and Al2O3-catalyzed alone. It demonstrates that this catalytic system has the optimum catalytic effect. HIGHLIGHT In this paper, the feasibility of low-temperature plasma generated by dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) to degrade poly-containing wastewater was studied. From the perspective of improving the degradation efficiency, a double glass DBD reactor with a water-cooling function was designed, and the effect of low-temperature plasma on the degradation rate of PAM solution under different catalyst combinations conditions was studied.;

The revised United Network for Organ Sharing heart allocation policy was implemented in October 2018. Using a national transplant database, this study evaluated the transplant rate, waitlist mortality, waiting time, and other outcomes of en-bloc heart-lung transplantation recipients. Adult patients registered on the national database for heart-lung transplants before and after the policy update were selected as cohorts. Baseline characteristics, transplant rates, waitlist mortality, waiting times, and other outcomes were compared between the two periods. In total, 370 patients were registered for heart-lung transplants during the pre- and post-periods. There were significantly higher transplant rates, shorter waitlist times, and substantially reduced waitlist mortality in the post-period. Registered patients waitlisted in the post-period had significantly higher utilization of intra-aortic balloon pumps, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and overall life support, including ventricular assist devices. Transplant recipients had significantly longer ischemic times, increased transport distances, and shorter waiting times before transplantation in the post-policy period. Transplant recipients held similar short-term survival before and after the policy change (log-rank test, p = 0.4357). Therefore, the revised policy significantly improved access to en-bloc heart-lung allografts compared with the prior policy, with better waitlist outcomes and similar post-transplant outcomes.

Background: PD-1 inhibitor and chemotherapy demonstrated durable antitumor activity with a manageable safety profile as the first-line treatment in patients with advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). The present study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of PD-1 inhibitors plus different dose intensity neoadjuvant chemotherapy in the treatment of locally advanced ESCC. Methods: Patients with locally advanced but resectable thoracic ESCC, staged as T3 or T4a, N0–3, and M0 or M1 lymph node metastasis (confined to the supraclavicular lymph nodes), were enrolled in this study. The eligible patients received tislelizumab plus different dose intensity chemotherapy for a 21-day cycle with repeated 2–4 cycles before surgery. The primary endpoints are pathological complete response (pCR) and major pathological response (MPR), and the secondary endpoints are objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), and disease-free survival (DFS). Results: From November 2019 to February 2022, 122 cases received at least two cycles neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy and were evaluated by imaging examination. Abstract Aconitum carmichaelii (Fuzi) is a traditional Chinese medicine that has been widely used in the clinic to save the dying life for over several thousand years. However, the medicinal components of Fuzi in treating vascular senescence (VS) and its potential mechanism remain unclear. In this study, a network pharmacology method was used to explore the possible components and further validated by experiments to get a candidate compound, deoxyandrographolide (DA). DA restrains aging biomarkers, such as p16, p21, γH2A.X, and p53 in vitro and in vivo blood co‐culture studies. Histone deacetylase 1 (HDAC1), mouse double minute2 (MDM2), cyclin‐dependent kinase 4, and mechanistic target of rapamycin kinase (mTOR) are predicted to be the possible targets of DA based on virtual screening. Subsequent bio‐layer interferometry results indicated that DA showed good affinity capability with HDAC1. DA enhances the protein expression of HDAC1 in the angiotensin II‐induced senescence process by inhibiting its ubiquitination degradation. Loss of HDAC1 by CRISPR/Cas9 leads to the disappearance of DA's anti‐aging property. The enhancement of HDAC1 represses H3K4me3 (a biomarker of chromosomal activity) and improves chromosome stability. RNA sequencing results also confirmed our hypothesis. Our evidence illuminated that DA may achieve as a novel compound in the treatment of VS by improving chromosome stability.

Neointimal hyperplasia is a complex process after vascular interventions, acute platelet deposition and smooth muscle cell proliferation both contributed to this process. There are still no perfect solutions to solve this problem. Rivaroxaban is a novel anticoagulant that has been widely used in clinic, it has a good pharmacological effects both in vivo and in vitro. Chitosan microparticle rapamycin (MP-rapa) was fabricated, interspaces of polyglycolic acid (PGA) scaffold were used as a reservoir of MP-rapa, and the scaffold was coated with hyaluronic acid rivaroxaban (MP-rapa-riva). Scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) photographs were taken and water contact angles were measured, rat inferior vena cava (IVC) patch venoplasty model was used; patches were harvested at day 14 and examined by immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. SEM photographs showed the microparticles rapamycin were inside the interspace of the scaffold, hyaluronic acid rivaroxaban was also successfully coated onto the surface of the scaffold. There was a thinner neointima, fewer proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) positive cells, fewer macrophages in the MP-rapa and MP-rapa-riva grafts compared to the control PGA graft. The result showed that this scaffold with dual anticoagulation and antiproliferation functions can effectively inhibit venous neointimal hyperplasia, although this is an animal experiment, it showed promising potential clinical application in the future.

An integrated slipper/swashplate structure is developed for seawater hydraulic axial piston pump. Considering the overturning moment of the integrated slipper, the transient hydrodynamic lubrication model of the integrated slipper is established, and the body-fitted grid and five-point finite difference method is employed to accurately solve the model. An optimization design method based on a hybrid of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) for the integrated slipper is proposed for the interface structure with the low leakage and power loss. The optimal sealing belt of the integrated slipper is obtained, and the leakage and power loss are reduced by 27.3% and 16.7% under the same gap size, respectively. The effects of working condition on the film-forming characteristics and power consumption characteristics of the lubricating film are analyzed based on the optimized integrated slipper. It is found that the leakage and total power loss increase significantly with the increasement of working pressure and shaft speed, and decrease with the increasement of temperature. The excellent lubrication characteristics and strong anti-overturning ability of the integrated slipper/swashplate structure can improve the performance of the seawater axial piston pump, and its optimization design method proposed in this study can provide a new reference for engineers.

Abstract Background Itaconic acid, an unsaturated C5 dicarbonic acid, has significant market demand and prospects. It has numerous biological functions, such as anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidative in medicine, and is an essential renewable platform chemical in industry. However, the development of industrial itaconic acid production by Aspergillus terreus, the current standard production strain, is hampered by the unavoidable drawbacks of that species. Developing a highly efficient cell factory is essential for the sustainable and green production of itaconic acid. Results This study employed combinatorial engineering strategies to construct Escherichia coli cells to produce itaconic acid efficiently. Two essential genes (cis-aconitate decarboxylase (CAD) encoding gene cadA and aconitase (ACO) encoding gene acn) employed various genetic constructs and plasmid combinations to create 12 recombination E. coli strains to be screened. Among them, E. coli BL-CAC exhibited the highest titer with citrate as substrate, and the induction and reaction conditions were further systematically optimized. Subsequently, employing enzyme evolution to optimize rate-limiting enzyme CAD and synthesizing protein scaffolds to co-localize ACO and CAD were used to improve itaconic acid biosynthesis efficiency. Under the optimized reaction conditions combined with the feeding control strategy, itaconic acid titer reached 398.07 mM (51.79 g/L) of engineered E. coli BL-CAR470E-DS/A-CS cells as a catalyst with the highest specific production of 9.42 g/g(DCW) among heterologous hosts at 48 h. Conclusions The excellent catalytic performance per unit biomass shows the potential for high-efficiency production of itaconic acid and effective reduction of catalytic cell consumption. This study indicates that it is necessary to continuously explore engineering strategies to develop high-performance cell factories to break through the existing bottleneck and achieve the economical commercial production of itaconic acid.

In plants, alternative splicing is a crucial mechanism for regulating gene expression at the post-transcriptional level, which leads to diverse proteins by generating multiple mature mRNA isoforms and diversify the gene regulation. Due to the complexity and variability of this process, accurate identification of splicing events is a vital step in studying alternative splicing. This article presents the application of alternative splicing algorithms with or without reference genomes in plants, as well as the integration of advanced deep learning techniques for improved detection accuracy. In addition, we also discuss alternative splicing studies in the pan-genomic background and the usefulness of integrated strategies for fully profiling alternative splicing.

This paper presents a comprehensive survey of ChatGPT-related (GPT-3.5 and GPT-4) research, state-of-the-art large language models (LLM) from the GPT series, and their prospective applications across diverse domains. Indeed, key innovations such as large-scale pre-training that captures knowledge across the entire world wide web, instruction fine-tuning and Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) have played significant roles in enhancing LLMs' adaptability and performance. We performed an in-depth analysis of 194 relevant papers on arXiv, encompassing trend analysis, word cloud representation, and distribution analysis across various application domains. The findings reveal a significant and increasing interest in ChatGPT-related research, predominantly centered on direct natural language processing applications, while also demonstrating considerable potential in areas ranging from education and history to mathematics, medicine, and physics. This study endeavors to furnish insights into ChatGPT's capabilities, potential implications, ethical concerns, and offer direction for future advancements in this field.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the bladder is a rare malignancy of the urinary system. It is prone to invasion and metastasis in the early stage and has a poor prognosis. This case reports a 65-year-old female patient with SCC of the bladder who was free of disease recurrence and metastasis 10 years after partial cystectomy (PC) combined with left ureteral reimplantation. The treatment plan and admission of this patient were retrospectively analyzed in order to provide some reference significance for the treatment plan for the SCC of the bladder.

High-throughput double cone specimens were used to study the influence of Mo on the microstructure evolution of Al–Cu–Mg–Ag alloy under a wide range of strain along the axis. The microstructure evolution was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). Results demonstrated that Al6(Fe, Mn, Mo) dispersoids formed in the Al–Cu–Mg–Ag alloy with the addition of 0.2% Mo during double-step homogenization. Meanwhile, rod-like Al20Cu2Mn3 and disk-like Al6(Fe, Mn, Mo) dispersoids segregated to opposite distribution in interdendritic regions and dendrite cores, respectively, which obviously eliminated the dispersoid-free zones and intragranular sparse regions. With different effective strains along the axis, Al6(Fe, Mn, Mo) dispersoids obviously reduced the transformation from Low-angle grain boundaries to High-angle grain boundaries. The nucleation and growth of dynamic recrystallization grains were effectively inhibited by the coupling of Al20Cu2Mn3 and Al6(Fe, Mn, Mo) dispersoids due to the obstruction of dislocation movement.

The overlapped transmitters IPT system with multi-inverters in parallel can effectively improve the power capacity. Compared with single transmitting coil, the overlapped transmitters IPT system can avoid the generation of circulating current. Aiming at the imbalanced current due to the deviation of resonant inductors and the delay of driving signal. A phase synchronization strategy based on PS-PWM is proposed. In this method, the phase difference of the resonant currents flows in the primary coils can be reduced. At the same time, the current sharing among different modules can be realized synchronously. A 2 kW equipment with two overlapped transmitters IPT System is established. The results showed that the methods can reduce the imbalanced current from 2 A to 0.2 A, and the phase difference of the resonant current is less than 5°. The efficiency of the whole modular IPT system can reach to 92.8% when the power is 2 kW.

In this study, we established a feasible fertilization programming method for wheat production by exploring the effects of the combined application of chemical and organic fertilizers on wheat yield, nutrient uptake, soil nutrient content, and fertilizer utilization. Six treatments, no fertilizer (CK), conventional fertilizer (CF), optimized fertilizer (with reduced fertilizer amount) (RF), chemical fertilizer with organic fertilizer extract (RPAE), partial replacement of chemical fertilizer with raw amino acid powder (RAF), and partial replacement of chemical fertilizer with raw humic acid powder (RHF), were set up for a field experiment. The fertilizer application rates for the RF treatment were calculated based on fertilization-monitoring techniques (30.3% nitrogen and 24.8% phosphorus reductions in 2022 and 23.0% nitrogen and 1.5% phosphorus reductions in 2023). The effects of different fertilizer treatments on yield, dry matter accumulation, plant nutrient accumulation, soil nutrients, and nutrient utilization in wheat were investigated. The results showed that, on the basis of 23% nitrogen and 1.5% phosphorus reductions, there was no significant difference in wheat yield between the RF and CF treatments and that the utilization rate of nitrogen fertilizer was improved. The application of organic fertilizer promoted dry matter accumulation in different organs of wheat; increased plant nutrient accumulation; improved soil nutrient content, nutrient utilization rate, nutrient partial productivity, and nutrient agronomic use efficiency; and ensured stable and increased crop yield. Specifically, compared with CF, the RPAE, RAF, and RHF organic fertilizer treatments increased wheat yield by 3.85%, 1.97%, and 0.67%, respectively, and the utilization of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers induced by these treatments significantly increased by 40.46%, 39.28%, and 37.46% (nitrogen) and by 9.83%, 8.91%, and 7.46% (phosphorus), respectively. As a result of our experiment, we concluded that RPAE exerted the best effects among the three organic fertilizer treatments (RPAE, RAF, and RHF) and that its use can result in a higher wheat yield and fertilizer utilization rate in drip-irrigated wheat fields. The results of this study provide a theoretical basis for the combined application of chemical and organic fertilizers, which is conducive to sustainable agriculture development.

In this paper, multi-source observation, such as aircraft, ground-based remote sensing, and satellite-retrieved data, has been utilized to compare and analyze the vertical characteristics of aerosol optical properties and the planetary boundary layer height (HPBL) over the North China Plain (NCP) region during May–June 2016. Aircraft observations show the vertical profiles of aerosol absorption coefficients (σabs), scattering coefficients (σsca), and extinction coefficients (σext) gradually decrease with altitude, with their maximum values near HPBL. The vertical profiles of σext depended most on the vertical distribution of measured σsca, indicating a significant contribution of scattering aerosols. In addition, the prominent characteristic of the inverse relationship between σext and moisture profile could serve as a reference for predicting air quality in the NCP region. The lower layer pollution during the field experiment was likely caused by the accumulation of fine-mode aerosols, characterized by the vertical distribution of the Ångström exponent and the Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) products. Typically, HPBL derived from aircraft and surface Micro Pulse Lidar (MPL) was approximate, while the predicted HPBL by meteorological data indicates an underestimation of ~192 m. Aerosol optical depth (AOD) calculated from aircraft and ground-based remote sensing (such as MPL and AERONET) experienced a strong correlation, and both of them exhibited a similar tendency. However, the AOD retrieved from satellites was significantly larger than that from aircraft and ground-based remote sensing. Overall, the inversion algorithm, cloud identification algorithm, representativeness of the space, and time of the observation may lead to an overestimation or underestimation of AOD under certain circumstances. This study may serve as a re-evaluation of AOD retrieved from multi-source observations and provide a reference to uncover the actual atmospheric environment in the NCP regions.

ε -Support vector regression ( ε -SVR) is a powerful machine learning approach that focuses on minimizing the margin, which represents the tolerance range between predicted and actual values. However, recent theoretical studies have highlighted that simply minimizing structural risk does not necessarily result in well margin distribution. Instead, it has been shown that the distribution of margins plays a more crucial role in achieving better generalization performance. Furthermore, the kernel-free technique offers a significant advantage as it effectively reduces the overall running time and simplifies the parameter selection process compared to the kernel trick. Based on existing kernel-free regression methods, we present two efficient and robust approaches named quadratic hyper-surface kernel-free large margin distribution machine-based regression (QLDMR) and quadratic hyper-surface kernel-free least squares large margin distribution machine-based regression (QLSLDMR). The QLDMR optimizes the margin distribution by considering both ε -insensitive loss and quadratic loss function similar to the large-margin distribution machine-based regression (LDMR). QLSLDMR aims to reduce the cost of the computing process of QLDMR, which transforms inequality constraints into an equality constraint inspired by least squares support vector machines (LSSVR). Both models combined the spirit of optimal margin distribution with kernel-free technique and after simplification are convex so that they can be solved by some classical methods. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the optimal margin distribution combined with the kernel-free technique in robustness, generalization, and efficiency.

We use 0.1″ observations from the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA), Hubble Space Telescope (HST), and JWST to study young massive clusters (YMCs) in their embedded “infant” phase across the central starburst ring in NGC 3351. Our new ALMA data reveal 18 bright and compact (sub-)millimeter continuum sources, of which 8 have counterparts in JWST images and only 6 have counterparts in HST images. Based on the ALMA continuum and molecular line data, as well as ancillary measurements for the HST and JWST counterparts, we identify 14 sources as infant star clusters with high stellar and/or gas masses (∼10 ^5 M _⊙ ), small radii (≲ 5 pc), large escape velocities (6–10 km s ^−1 ), and short freefall times (0.5–1 Myr). Their multiwavelength properties motivate us to divide them into four categories, likely corresponding to four evolutionary stages from starless clumps to exposed H ii region–cluster complexes. Leveraging age estimates for HST-identified clusters in the same region, we infer an evolutionary timeline, ranging from ∼1–2 Myr before cluster formation as starless clumps, to ∼4–6 Myr after as exposed H ii region–cluster complexes. Finally, we show that the YMCs make up a substantial fraction of recent star formation across the ring, exhibit a nonuniform azimuthal distribution without a very coherent evolutionary trend along the ring, and are capable of driving large-scale gas outflows.

CO emission has been widely used as a tracer of molecular gas mass. However, it is a long-standing issue to accurately constrain the CO-to-H _2 conversion factor ( α _CO ) that converts CO luminosity to molecular gas mass, especially in starburst galaxies. We present the first resolved α _CO modeling results with multiple Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array CO and ^13 CO transition observations at both giant molecular cloud (GMC) scale at 150 pc and kiloparsec scale for one of the closest starburst mergers, the Antennae. By combining our CO modeling results and measurements of 350 GHz dust continuum, we find that most GMCs in the Antennae have α _CO values approximately four times smaller than the commonly adopted Milky Way value (4.3). We find that α _CO at GMC scales shows a strong dependence on CO intensity, ^13 CO/CO ratio, and GMC velocity dispersion, which is consistent with various theoretical and simulation predictions. Specifically, we suggest that the ^13 CO/CO line ratio and the velocity dispersion can be used to infer α _CO in starburst regions. By applying our modeled α _CO in GMC analyses, we find that GMCs in the Antennae are less gravitationally bound than in normal spiral galaxies, which is more consistent with what is predicted by merger simulations. At kiloparsec scale, we find that our modeled α _CO values are smaller than the modeled α _CO at GMC scale by 40%, which can be due to inclusion of a diffuse gas component with lower α _CO values. We find a similar correlation of α _CO and CO intensity at kiloparsec scales to that at GMC scales.

Ongoing climate variability and change are increasing the burden of diarrhoeal disease worldwide. Meaningful early warning systems with adequate lead times (weeks to months) are needed to guide public health decision–making and enhance community resilience against health threats posed by climate change. Toward this goal, we trained various machine-learning models to predict diarrhoeal disease rates in Nepal (2002–2014), Taiwan (2008–2019), and Vietnam (2000–2015) using temperature, precipitation, previous disease rates, and El Niño Southern Oscillation phases. We also compared the performance of shallow time-series neural network (NN), Random Forest Regressor, artificial nn, gradient boosting regressor, and long short-term memory–based methods for their effectiveness in predicting diarrhoeal disease burden across multiple countries. We evaluated model performance using a test dataset and assessed the accuracy of predicted diarrhoeal disease incidence rates for the last year of available data in each district. Our results suggest that even in the absence of the most recent disease surveillance data, a likely scenario in most low- and middle-income countries, our NN-based early warning system using historical data performs reasonably well. However, future studies are needed to perform prospective evaluations of such early warning systems in real-world settings.

Objective: To explore the hemostatic mechanism of Jianpi Yiqi Shexue decoction (JYSD) by regulating vascular factors in an immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) mouse model. Methods: An ITP mouse model was established by the passive-immune modeling method, and interventional drugs used were prednisone tablets and JYSD. The platelet count; vascular activity–related factors vWF, VCAM-1, and TM; and VEGF and bFGF were used as observational indicators. Results: On the 8th day of administration, compared with the model group, platelet counts in the prednisone and JYSD groups increased (both P .05). Conclusion: A vascular factor disorder is involved in the pathogenesis of ITP. JYSD can increase the platelet count, upregulate VEGF expression, and reduce the TM level. JYSD has the same effect as prednisone tablets in regulating platelet, vWF, VEGF, and bFGF, with a stronger effect in normalizing VCAM-1 and TM levels. The hemostatic mechanism of JYSD is closely related to the effective balance of vascular factors.

The aim of this study was to explore the causes of tourists’ lesser enjoyment of theme parks through an unsupervised machine learning approach—structural topic modelling. Specifically, the research extracted a comprehensive list of discussion topics about the travel experience of tourists through the analysis of 112,000 customer reviews released by visitors to the Shanghai Disney Resort from 16 June 2016 to 4 March 2022. Then, we used sentiment analysis to distinguish positive and negative topics and to explore the relationship between tourists who buy different ticket types and sentiments in negative topics. The results show that problems such as “parking,” “service attitude,” “recommendation feeling,” “experience comparison,” and “entrance” may be the main reasons for an unpleasant experience. In addition, we also found that when tourists travel in groups (e.g., via family tickets), customers feel unhappy because of parking and fast track problems. Moreover, when tourists travel alone or with small groups, staff service attitudes, experience comparisons, and entrance processes are the sources of greater concern. Our findings can help theme park managers to better understand the expectations of tourists and take effective measures to tackle issues causing customer dissatisfaction, and they can also contribute to theme park studies in tourism management.

Albumin is derived from blood plasma and is the most abundant protein in blood plasma, which has good mechanical properties, biocompatibility and degradability, so albumin is an ideal biomaterial for biomedical applications, and drug-carriers based on albumin can better reduce the cytotoxicity of drug. Currently, there are numerous reviews summarizing the research progress on drug-loaded albumin molecules or nanoparticles. In comparison, the study of albumin-based hydrogels is a relatively small area of research, and few articles have systematically summarized the research progress of albumin-based hydrogels, especially for drug delivery and tissue engineering. Thus, this review summarizes the functional features and preparation methods of albumin-based hydrogels, different types of albumin-based hydrogels and their applications in antitumor drugs, tissue regeneration engineering, etc. Also, potential directions for future research on albumin-based hydrogels are discussed.

Abstract Background Skeletal muscle mass is regulated by intracellular anabolic and catabolic activities. Increased catabolic activity can shift the balance towards net protein breakdown and muscle atrophy. Mitochondrial oxidative stress activates catabolism and is linked to muscle loss. Reducing mitochondrial oxidative stress is thus a plausible approach to prevent muscle atrophy. We tested this concept in age‐dependent muscle atrophy by genetically overexpressing the mitochondrial antioxidant thioredoxin‐2 (TXN2). Methods We tested the functional role of TXN2 using ageing (n = 7–10 per group) and denervation (n = 3 per group) models in a transgenic mouse line that overexpresses TXN2. We investigated if overexpression of TXN2 blocks muscle loss in these models by examination of muscle weight, fibre size, and fibre number in young (~7 months) and aged (~26 months) TXN2‐transgenic mice and controls. We studied the underlying mechanisms by mRNA and protein assays including transcriptomic profiling, western blot analysis, immunostaining, as well as succinate dehydrogenase, dihydroethidium, and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labelling staining. Results Overexpression of TXN2 did not significantly alter the baseline skeletal muscle size, weight, fibre type distribution, or expression of mitochondrial respiratory chain components, but it did preserve muscle mass during ageing. The hindlimb muscle mass in aged TXN‐transgenic mice was ~21–24% greater (in tibialis anterior, gastrocnemius/soleus combined, and tibialis anterior/extensor digitorum longus combined) than in age‐matched controls (all P 0.05). Transcriptomic analysis revealed that catabolic genes that are up‐regulated in ageing muscle, including those subserving apoptosis and the ubiquitin‐like conjugation system, were normalized by TXN2 overexpression. Further, overexpressing TXN2 suppressed oxidative stress and caspase‐9/3‐mediated apoptotic signalling in the aged muscle at the protein level. Although denervation and its effects have been considered a component of age‐related muscle atrophy, TXN2 overexpression failed to attenuate atrophy in an acute denervation model (TXN‐transgenic vs. control mice, P > 0.05), despite preventing denervation‐induced oxidative stress and apoptosis. Conclusions Mitochondrial oxidative stress appears to play a crucial role in effecting chronic age‐dependent, but not acute neurogenic, muscle atrophy. Increased TXN2 protects muscle against oxidative stress‐associated catabolic activity in ageing muscle and thus is a potential therapeutic approach to attenuate age‐related muscle atrophy.

Video frame interpolation is an important technology in digital video processing, which has great impact on users’ viewing experience. In particular, in medical or industrial application scenarios, the accuracy of the frame interpolation algorithm may also influence the diagnosis results. In addition, for videos based on ionizing radiation (e.g., X-rays), each frame exposure could cause damage to human tissues by ionizing radiation. Therefore, if a frame interpolation algorithm is introduced to display the same number of frames, it only needs to sample half of the frames and halve the exposure radiation doses, which is statistically promising to reduce human cancer rate caused by ionizing radiations (e.g., medical examinations). However, since there are errors in frame interpolation caused by luminance leap, existing works are not applicable in such scenarios. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a video interpolation algorithm based on luminance compensation MEMC (LC-MEMC). Firstly, a luminance compensation method based on the electromagnetic irradiation attenuation in human tissue is introduced to improve the performance of motion estimation and motion compensation (MEMC) and reduce matching errors caused by luminance leap. Secondly, LC-MEMC proposes an improved block matching approach, including i) a new search method from basic points to local points and ii) a block matching criterion that simplifies the calculation process. LC-MEMC improves the accuracy and processing speed of video interpolation from three perspectives: adding luminance compensation, improving the search strategy and optimizing the matching degree calculation method for each search position. We evaluated LC-MEMC on collected medical videos and achieved higher accuracy, faster processing speed, and significantly better viewing experience comparing with existing methods.

Hydrogel is a nature scaffold that can degraded in animal body and can be used as a drug delivery system, we hypothesized that patch made of three layers of hydrogel with different PLGA nanoparticle drugs (bio-patch) can be used to decrease venous neointimal hyperplasia. Rat inferior vena cava (IVC) patch venoplasty model was used. Samples from rat IVC direct suture (DS), decellularized thoracic artery patch (TA) venoplasty and bovine pericardial patch (BPP) venoplasty were examined at day 14 after implantation. Sodium alginate and hyaluronic acid (SA/HA) hydrogel was used, three layers hydrogel patch (control) and three layers hydrogel patch with PLGA nanoparticle drugs (bio-patch) were used in rat IVC venoplasty. Patches were harvested at day 14 and analyzed. In rats, TA and BPP patch showed a thicker neointima and adventitia compared to the DS, there were larger numbers of CD68 and PCNA positive cells in both groups. The control hydrogel patch showed much thinner neointima and adventitia compared to TA and BPP patches. In both of the neointima and peri-patch area, bio-patch showed significantly fewer smooth muscle cells, fewer CD68, fewer PCNA positive cells, fewer collagen-1 positive cells, fewer p-smad2 positive cells, fewer TNF-α positive cells compared to control hydrogel patch. Bio-patch made of hydrogel and PLGA nanoparticle drugs showed a thinner neointimal thickness, and is biocompatible to the animal body. These results showed the potential application of hydrogel patch in vascular surgery.

Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury is the main cause of increasing postischemic heart failure and currently there is no definite treatment for myocardial I/R injury. It has been suggested that oxidative stress-induced mitochondrial dysfunction plays an important role in the pathological development of myocardial I/R. In this study, Yiqi Huoxue (YQHX) prescription, as a kind of Chinese herbal formula, was developed and shown to alleviate I/R injury. Network analysis combined with ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry expounded the active components of YQHX and revealed the mitophagy-regulation mechanism of YQHX treating I/R injury. In vivo experiments confirmed YQHX significantly alleviated I/R myocardial injury and relieved oxidative stress. In vitro experiments validated that YQHX could relieve hypoxia/reoxygenation injury and attenuate oxidative stress via improving the structure and function of mitochondria, which was strongly related to regulating mitophagy. In summary, this study demonstrated that YQHX, which could alleviate I/R injury via targeting mitophagy, might be a potential therapeutic strategy for myocardial I/R injury.

OBJECTIVES Diarrheal disease continues to be a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. We investigated how anomalies in monthly average temperature, precipitation, and surface water storage (SWS) impacted bacterial, and viral diarrhea morbidity in Taiwan between 2004 and 2015. METHODS A multivariate analysis using negative binomial generalized estimating equations was employed to quantify age-specific and cause-specific cases of diarrhea associated with anomalies in temperature, precipitation, and SWS. RESULTS Temperature anomalies were associated with an elevated rate of all-cause infectious diarrhea at a lag of 2 months, with the highest risk observed in the under-5 age group (incidence rate ratio [IRR], 1.03, 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.01 to 1.07). Anomalies in SWS were associated with increased viral diarrhea rates, with the highest risk observed in the under-5 age group at a 2-month lag (IRR, 1.27; 95% CI, 1.14 to 1.42) and a lesser effect at a 1-month lag (IRR, 1.18; 95% CI, 1.06 to 1.31). Furthermore, cause-specific diarrheal diseases were significantly affected by extreme weather events in Taiwan. Both extremely cold and hot conditions were associated with an increased risk of all-cause infectious diarrhea regardless of age, with IRRs ranging from 1.03 (95% CI, 1.02 to 1.12) to 1.18 (95% CI, 1.16 to 1.40). CONCLUSIONS The risk of all-cause infectious diarrhea was significantly associated with average temperature anomalies in the population aged under 5 years. Viral diarrhea was significantly associated with anomalies in SWS. Therefore, we recommend strategic planning and early warning systems as major solutions to improve resilience against climate change.

With eco-friendly green agriculture becoming the development trend of modern agriculture, how to make green investments and how to coordinate the supply chain become the key issues of agricultural green development. Using game theory and optimization theory, this paper studies the green investment decision in a two-echelon agricultural supply chain composed of a risk-averse farmer and a risk-neutral retailer under different power structures including three kinds of decentralized decision making and three kinds of cooperative decision making and conducts the supply chain coordination based on generalized Nash bargaining model. The results show that under decentralized decision making, Nash vertical, farmer-led, and retailer-led maximizes green investment level, the expected utility of farmer and retailer, respectively. In addition, the cooperative decision increases the marginal revenue, sales price, and the expected utility of the retailer and decreases the expectations of farmers. Except for retailer-led cooperative decisions, all cooperative decisions have increased the level of green investment and wholesale prices; among the six decision models, the green investment level is negatively correlated with risk aversion, while it is positively correlated with the cost-sharing contract. The optimal cost-sharing ratio is positively correlated with risk aversion and bargaining power. The cost-sharing contracts are invalid when farmers have full bargaining power. Numerical analysis shows that a cost-sharing contract with equal bargaining power can achieve perfect coordination in the supply chain.

Impulsive behavior and impulsivity are heritable phenotypes that are strongly associated with risk for substance use disorders. Identifying the neurogenetic mechanisms that influence impulsivity may also reveal novel biological insights into addiction vulnerability. Our past studies using the BXD and Collaborative Cross (CC) recombinant inbred mouse panels have revealed that behavioral indicators of impulsivity measured in a reversal-learning task are heritable and are genetically correlated with aspects of intravenous cocaine self-administration. Genome-wide linkage studies in the BXD panel revealed a quantitative trait locus (QTL) on chromosome 10, but we expect to identify additional QTL by testing in a population with more genetic diversity. To this end, we turned to Diversity Outbred (DO) mice; 392 DO mice (156 males, 236 females) were phenotyped using the same reversal learning test utilized previously. ObjectiveThis study aimed to determine the influence of fluid overload on bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in very low-birth-weight infants (VLBWI) within 1 week after birth.MethodsThis was a retrospective case control study conducted in the Jingzhou Central Hospital. The clinical data of VLBWI (with a birth weight [BW] < 1,500 g and 26 weeks ≤ gestational age [GA] < 32 weeks) who were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of this hospital from January 2016 to December 2021 were analyzed retrospectively. A total of 157 cases were enrolled and divided into a BPD group (n = 60) and a non-BPD group (n = 97) according to whether BPD was present. The general condition, fluid intake, and fluid overload of the two groups of neonates within 1 week after birth were compared. The logistic regression was used to assess the association between infant characteristics and BPD. The ROC curve was used to assess how well the 7 day cumulative fluid overload predicted BPD, and to identify an optimal cut off for prediction.ResultsThe comparison of the patients' general condition revealed that the neonates in the BPD group had a younger GA, lower BW, lower 5-min Apgar score, longer duration of invasive mechanical ventilation, and higher incidence of intrauterine infections and administration of surfactants (P < 0.05). The differences in the other indicators were not statistically significant between the two groups. The logistic regression analysis revealed that a younger GA, the presence of intrauterine infection, and a 7-day cumulative fluid overload were the risk factors for the development of BPD. A ROC curve was plotted with the 7-day cumulative fluid overload as the test variable and BPD as the status variable. The area under the curve was 0.75 (95% confidence interval: 0.664–0.826, P = 0.042), with a sensitivity of 76.7% and a specificity of 70.1%, corresponding to a 7-day cumulative fluid overload of 36.2%.ConclusionA younger GA, the presence of intrauterine infection, and a 7-day cumulative fluid overload were risk factors for the development of BPD. A 7 day cumulative fluid overload threshold of 36.2% best predicted the development of BPD.

During the normalization stage of the COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control, the safety threats caused by improper epidemic prevention measures of airlines have become the primary concern for air passengers. Negative e-WOM related to safety perception obtained based on online multimodal reviews of travel websites has become an important decision-making basis for potential air passengers when making airline choices. This study aims to examine the relationship between potential air passengers’ negative safety perception and the usefulness of online reviews, as well as to test the moderating effect of review modality and airline type. It also further explores the effectiveness and feasibility of applying big data sentiment analysis to e-WOM management. To this end, the theoretical model of negative safety perception, review modality, and airline type affecting review usefulness was constructed. Then we select 10 low-cost airlines and 10 full-service airlines, respectively, according to the number of reviews sorted by the TripAdvisor website, and use crawling techniques to obtain 10,485 reviews related to COVID-19 safety of the above companies from December 2019 to date, and conduct safety perception sentiment analysis based on Python’s Textblob library. Finally, to avoid data overdispersion, the model is empirically analyzed by negative binomial regression using R software. The results indicate that (1) Negative safety perception significantly and negatively affects review usefulness, that is, extreme negative safety perception can provide higher review usefulness for potential air passengers. (2) Review modality and airline type have a significant moderating effect on the relationship between negative safety perception and review usefulness, in which multimodal reviews and full-service airlines both weakened the negative impact of negative safety perception on review usefulness. The theoretical model in this paper is both an extension of the application of big data sentiment analysis techniques and a beneficial supplement to current research findings of e-WOM, providing an important reference for potential air passengers to identify useful reviews accurately and thus reduce safety risks in online decision-making.

Cocaine use and overdose deaths attributed to cocaine have increased significantly in the United States in the last 10 years. Despite the prevalence of cocaine use disorder (CUD) and the personal and societal problems it presents, there are currently no approved pharmaceutical treatments. The absence of treatment options is due, in part, to our lack of knowledge about the etiology of CUDs. There is ample evidence that genetics plays a role in increasing CUD risk but thus far, very few risk genes have been identified in human studies. Genetic studies in mice have been extremely useful for identifying genetic loci and genes, but have been limited to very few genetic backgrounds, leaving substantial phenotypic, and genetic diversity unexplored. Herein we report the measurement of cocaine-induced behavioral sensitization using a 19-day protocol that captures baseline locomotor activity, initial locomotor response to an acute exposure to cocaine and locomotor sensitization across 5 exposures to the drug. These behaviors were measured in 51 genetically diverse Collaborative Cross (CC) strains along with their inbred founder strains. The CC was generated by crossing eight genetically diverse inbred strains such that each inbred CC strain has genetic contributions from each of the founder strains. Inbred CC mice are infinitely reproducible and provide a stable, yet diverse genetic platform on which to study the genetic architecture and genetic correlations among phenotypes. We have identified significant differences in cocaine locomotor sensitivity and behavioral sensitization across the panel of CC strains and their founders. We have established relationships among cocaine sensitization behaviors and identified extreme responding strains that can be used in future studies aimed at understanding the genetic, biological, and pharmacological mechanisms that drive addiction-related behaviors. Finally, we have determined that these behaviors exhibit relatively robust heritability making them amenable to future genetic mapping studies to identify addiction risk genes and genetic pathways that can be studied as potential targets for the development of novel therapeutics.

Abstract Background Intrinsically disordered proteins possess flexible 3-D structures, which makes them play an important role in a variety of biological functions. Molecular recognition features (MoRFs) act as an important type of functional regions, which are located within longer intrinsically disordered regions and undergo disorder-to-order transitions upon binding their interaction partners. Results We develop a method, MoRFCNN, to predict MoRFs based on sequence properties and convolutional neural networks (CNNs). The sequence properties contain structural and physicochemical properties which are used to describe the differences between MoRFs and non-MoRFs. Especially, to highlight the correlation between the target residue and adjacent residues, three windows are selected to preprocess the selected properties. After that, these calculated properties are combined into the feature matrix to predict MoRFs through the constructed CNN. Comparing with other existing methods, MoRFCNN obtains better performance. Conclusions MoRFCNN is a new individual MoRFs prediction method which just uses protein sequence properties without evolutionary information. The simulation results show that MoRFCNN is effective and competitive.

This study looks into a new composite bridge deck structure that employs a corrugated steel plate as the base. The goal is to address the shortcomings of traditional deck-bearing capacity, stiffness, and stress performance. Specifically, this study investigates the shear performance and slip characteristics of this structure. To achieve this, the study analyzes the shear behavior and slip tendencies of the composite bridge deck. The study focuses on the role of shear studs and PBL (Perfobond Leiste) perforated steel plates as essential components for shear connections. The shear performance of the composite deck is analyzed based on the structure of shear connection keys such as shear studs and PBL perforated steel plates. The advantages of composite decks in terms of stiffness, self-weight, load-bearing capacity, shear resistance, slip resistance, etc., are discussed to provide a theoretical reference for practical engineering applications. The shear resistance of shear stud shear keys is investigated through shear push-out experiments, and the shear resistance of shear studs is investigated through finite element simulations based on the ABAQUS 2020 finite element software. The results showed that the shear load capacity of the shear studs increased with the increase in the height-to-diameter ratio for different diameters of the shear studs, and the range of increases was from 2% to 23%. However, when the diameter of the shear stud exceeded 22 mm, the ultimate shear capacity of the shear stud increased with the increase in the height-to-diameter ratio, and the magnitude of the increase slowed down. For the actual design of the composite deck, it is recommended to maintain a shear stud height-to-diameter ratio within the range of 9 to 12. When using a composite deck with a PBL open-hole steel plate, the maximum longitudinal slip at the plate end and within the span is only 0.28 mm and 0.0158 mm, respectively. These values are 31% and 36% lower than those of the composite deck with a peg shear key. Additionally, the vertical peeling within the span of the PBL open-hole steel plate is merely 0.46 mm, showing a 21% reduction compared to that of the shear studs. It can be seen that the PBL perforated steel plates are more effective than the shear studs in resisting slip and peel.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was performed to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of a custom-manufactured stent graft (CMSG) with directional multibranches for the treatment of a complex thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm (TAAA) patient. METHODS: A 73-year-old man presented with Crawford Type V TAAA was treated with a CMSG with four down-going directional branches including two proximal directional branches for the celiac artery and superior mesenteric artery and two distal side directional branches for the bilateral renal arteries. RESULTS: Postoperative course was unremarkable and 6-month follow-up demonstrated sac regression, absence of endoleaks, and all of the visceral branches remained patent. CONCLUSIONS: Total endovascular repair using CMSG with directional multibranches is a suitable alternative in higher risk patients with TAAA who are not suited for open surgery. Longer follow-up is needed to confirm the preliminary results.

Vertebrovertebral arteriovenous fistula is an uncommon vascular disease with no clear management guidelines. It is most commonly caused by iatrogenic injury. We have presented the details of two iatrogenic cases and a review to discuss strategies for endovascular and surgical approaches. From the digital subtraction angiography findings, the vertebrovertebral arteriovenous fistulas were occluded by endovascular coil positioning (patient 1) and surgical ligation of the fistulas (patient 2). Although endovascular approaches are increasing in popularity and considered well-tolerated treatments, open surgical treatment is still reserved for the most complex cases and those not feasible for endovascular treatment.

Abstract Dysregulation of the PINK1/Parkin-mediated mitophagy is essential to Parkinson’s disease. Although important progress has been made in previous researches, the biochemical reagents that induce global and significant mitochondrial damage may still hinder deeper insights into the mechanisms of mitophagy. The origin of PINK1/Parkin pathway activation in mitophagy remains elusive. In this study, we develop an optical method, ultra-precise laser stimulation (UPLaS) that delivers a precise and noninvasive stimulation onto a submicron region in a single mitochondrial tubular structure. UPLaS excites localized mitochondrial Ca2+ (mitoCa2+) oscillations with tiny perturbation to mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) or mitochondrial reactive oxygen species. The UPLaS-induced mitoCa2+ oscillations can directly induce PINK1 accumulation and Parkin recruitment on mitochondria. The Parkin recruitment by UPLaS requires PINK1. Our results provide a precise and noninvasive technology for research on mitophagy, which stimulates target mitochondria with little damage, and reveal mitoCa2+ oscillation directly initiates the PINK1-Parkin pathway for mitophagy without MMP depolarization.

Abstract Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) is an established biomarker of cancer metastasis. The circulation dynamics of CTCs are important for understanding the mechanisms underlying tumor cell dissemination. Although studies have revealed that the circadian rhythm may disrupt the growth of tumors, it is generally unclear whether the circadian rhythm controls the release of CTCs. In clinical examinations, the current in vitro methods for detecting CTCs in blood samples are based on a fundamental assumption that CTC counts in the peripheral blood do not change significantly over time, which is being challenged by recent studies. Since it is not practical to draw blood from patients repeatedly, a feasible strategy to investigate the circadian rhythm of CTCs is to monitor them by in vivo detection methods. Fluorescence in vivo flow cytometry (IVFC) is a powerful optical technique that is able to detect fluorescent circulating cells directly in living animals in a noninvasive manner over a long period of time. In this study, we applied fluorescence IVFC to monitor CTCs noninvasively in an orthotopic mouse model of human prostate cancer. We observed that CTCs exhibited stochastic bursts over cancer progression. The probability of the bursting activity was higher at early stages than at late stages. We longitudinally monitored CTCs over a 24-h period, and our results revealed striking daily oscillations in CTC counts that peaked at the onset of the night (active phase for rodents), suggesting that the release of CTCs might be regulated by the circadian rhythm.

Summary: The technology to induce stem cell differentiation is of great importance in life science, stem cell therapy, and regenerative medicine. Here, we detail steps to noninvasively activate stem cell differentiation in vitro and in vivo using a tightly focused femtosecond laser. We describe how a single-time transient photoactivation can initiate differentiation without any gene engineering, exogenous substances, or physical contact. This protocol enables the differentiation of adipose-derived stem cells to osteoblasts in vitro and cerebellar granule neuron progenitors to granule neurons in vivo.For complete details on the use and execution of this protocol, please refer to Tang et al. Organic fertilizer substitution (OFS) is an effective strategy for reducing the chemical fertilizer usage; however, the effects of different OFS ratios (OFSRs) on maize yield, soil fertility, and heavy metal pollution risk are still unclear. Therefore, determining a suitable OFSR is important. Through the pot experiment, no fertilizer (CK) and organic fertilizer substituting 0% (CF, chemical fertilizer alone), 8% (OF8), 16% (OF16), and 24% (OF24) of the chemical N fertilizer were set to investigate the effects of different OFSRs on maize growth and yield, soil properties (available nutrients, carbon fractions, and carbon pool indices), and nutrients and heavy metals in grain and soil. The results showed that OF8, OF16, and OF24 improved soil fertility by increasing soil organic carbon (SOC, by 10.05–16.26%) and its fractions, most middle- and micro-nutrients content, and carbon pool management index (CPMI, by 17.45–30.31%) compared with CF, while improving grain nutritional quality. However, they increased heavy metals content in grain and soil and their Nemerow comprehensive pollution index (NCPI, by 4.06–16.56% in grain and 2.55–5.57% in soil) but did not cause pollution. Among them, throughout the growth period, only OF8 treatment increased soil available nitrogen (AN), phosphorus (AP), and potassium (AK) content by 3.04–11.15%, 7.11–8.05%, and 0.12–6.05%, respectively, compared with CF, which thus significantly promoted maize growth and increased yield (by 35.65%); the NCPI of grain and soil was however lower than that OF16 and OF24. In conclusion, substitution ratio of 8% was considered ideal for promoting maize growth, improving yield and soil fertility, with a low pollution risk. The results of this study would aid in guiding the scientific application of OFS technology to agricultural production, thereby contributing to resource utilization of organic waste and sustainable agricultural development.

It is well known that psychological stress could affect the immune system and then regulate the disease process. Previous studies mostly focused on the effects of chronic stress on diseases and immune cells. How acute stress affects the immune system remains poorly understood. In this study, after 6 hours of restraint stress or no stress, RNA was extracted from mouse peripheral blood followed by sequencing. Through bioinformatics analysis, we found that when compared with the control group, differentially expressed genes in the stress group mainly displayed up-regulated expression. Gene set enrichment analysis results showed that the enriched gene terms were mainly related to inflammatory response, defense response, wounding response, wound healing, complement activation and pro-inflammatory cytokine production. In terms of cell activation, differentiation and chemotaxis, the enriched gene terms were related to a variety of immune cells, among which neutrophils seemed more active in stress response. The results of gene set variation analysis showed that under acute stress, the inflammatory reaction dominated by innate immunity was forming. Additionally, the concentration of serum IL-1β and IL-6 increased significantly after acute stress, indicating that the body was in an inflammatory state. Importantly, we found that acute stress led to a significant increase in the number of neutrophils in peripheral blood, while the number of T cells and B cells decreased significantly through flow cytometric analysis. Through protein-protein interaction network analysis, we screened 10 hub genes, which mainly related to inflammation and neutrophils. We also found acute stress led to an up-regulation of Ccr1, Ccr2, Xcr1 and Cxcr2 genes, which were involved in cell migration and chemotaxis. Our data suggested that immune cells were ready to infiltrate into tissues in emergency through blood vessels under acute stress. This hypothesis was supported in LPS-induced acute inflammatory models. After 48 hours of LPS treatment, flow cytometric analysis showed that the lungs of mice with acute stress were characterized by increased neutrophil infiltration, decreased T cell and B cell infiltration. Immunohistochemical analysis also showed that acute stress led to more severe lung inflammation. If mice received repeat acute stress and LPS stimulation, the survival rate was significantly lower than that of mice only stimulated by LPS. Altogether, acute stress led to rapid mobilization of the immune system, and the body presented an inflammatory state dominated by innate immune response represented by neutrophils.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to summarize the long-term experience of using the chimney technique in thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) for aortic arch diseases.MethodsFrom November 2007 to June 2021, a total of 345 consecutive patients (mean age 56 ± 11.3 years, range 28–83, 302 men) with aortic arch pathologies underwent TEVAR combined with chimney technique (cTEVAR). Their medical data and follow-up results were retrospectively reviewed and analyzed.ResultsAmong the 345 patients, 278 (80.6%) received single chimneys, 53 (15.4%) received double chimneys, 7 (2%) received triple chimneys, and 7 (2%) underwent cTEVAR accompanied by other techniques (two with extra-anatomical bypass, two with in situ fenestration, and three with physician modified fenestration). A total of 412 chimney stents were used, including 27 in the innominate artery (IA), 113 in the left common carotid artery, 270 in the left subclavian artery, and two in the aberrant right subclavian artery. Early type IA endoleaks were found in 38 (11%) patients, including 12 with the double or triple chimney technique. Early type II endoleak was found in nine (2.6%) patients. Early re-intervention occurred in two patients with double chimney technique, one for chimney stent migration and the other for compression of chimney stent. The 30-day mortality was 1.2% (4 in 345). During a mean follow-up of 42 ± 22 months (range 1–108 months), major stroke occurred in nine (2.6%) patients, chimney occlusion or stenosis occurred in six (1.7%), and retrograde type A aortic dissection occurred in four (1.2%). Fourteen (4.1%) patients received the secondary intervention. The all-cause mortality was 6.7% (23 in 345). Additionally, the total adverse event rate after cTEVAR was 13.9% (48 in 345).ConclusionTEVAR with chimney technique provides a minimally invasive alternative with good chimney graft patency and low postoperative mortality during follow-up. However, the double and triple chimney techniques should be used cautiously as they seem to have a higher risk for type IA endoleak and adverse events after the operation.

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak in many parts of the world, online education has become a more viable option. Some studies have assessed undergraduate students’ readiness for online learning, while others examined students’ anxiety about online learning at home. The relationship between readiness and anxiety about online learning is, however, not well explored. This paper has two purposes: (1) to develop a new and valid instrument—the Home-based Online Learning Readiness Questionnaire (HOLRQ)—to measure students’ readiness to study online at home based on a theoretical framework of self-regulated learning. As a replacement for the previous readiness scale, this new instrument adds a section on learning strategies and updates and develops new items. (2) to investigate the relationship between readiness and anxiety in online learning. In order to explore those issues, 527 undergraduate students in China were surveyed in this study. The results indicated that HOLRQ was validated in the following six domains: motivation, self-efficacy, information technology skills, resource management, learning strategies and help-seeking. Chinese undergraduate students were more prepared in resource management, motivation, and help seeking, but less prepared in learning strategies, information technology skills, and self-efficacy. However, the regression analysis showed that readiness did not predict online learning anxiety. It means even highly prepared self-regulated learners may experience anxiety when learning online from home. The findings provide insights for instructors and administrators to determine how students really feel about learning from home with online education.

Oleanolic acid (OA) is a natural cosmeceutical compound with various skin beneficial activities including inhibitory effect on hyaluronidase but the anti-hyaluronidase activity and mechanisms of action of its synthetic analogues remain unclear. Herein, a series of OA derivatives were synthesised and evaluated for their inhibitory effects on hyaluronidase. Compared to OA, an induction of fluorinated (6c) and chlorinated (6g) indole moieties led to enhanced anti-hyaluronidase activity (IC50 = 80.3 vs. 9.97 and 9.57 µg/mL, respectively). Furthermore, spectroscopic and computational studies revealed that 6c and 6g can bind to hyaluronidase protein and alter its secondary structure leading to reduced enzyme activity. In addition, OA indole derivatives showed feasible skin permeability in a slightly acidic environment (pH = 6.5) and 6c exerted skin protective effect by reducing cellular reactive oxygen species in human skin keratinocytes. Findings from the current study support that OA indole derivatives are potential cosmeceuticals with anti-hyaluronidase activity.

Abstract Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) are of quite a significance in the field of inorganic‐organic hybrid crystals. Especially, MOFs have attracted increasing attention in recent years due to their large specific surface area, desirable electrical conductivity, controllable porosity, tunable geometric structure, and excellent thermal/chemical stability. Some recent studies have shown that carbon materials prepared by MOFs as precursors can retain the privileged structure of MOFs, such as large specific surface area and porous structure and, in contrast, realize in situ doping with heteroatoms (eg, N, S, P, and B). Moreover, by selecting appropriate MOF precursors, the composition and morphology of the carbon products can be easily adjusted. These remarkable structural advantages enable the great potential of MOF‐derived carbon as high‐performance energy materials, which to date have been applied in the fields of energy storage and conversion systems. In this review, we summarize the latest advances in MOF‐derived carbon materials for energy storage applications. We first introduce the compositions, structures, and synthesis methods of MOF‐derived carbon materials, and then discuss their applications and potentials in energy storage systems, including rechargeable lithium/sodium‐ion batteries, lithium‐sulfur batteries, supercapacitors, and so forth, in detail. Finally, we put forward our own perspectives on the future development of MOF‐derived carbon materials.

According to the characteristics of the road features, an Encoder-Decoder deep semantic segmentation network is designed for the road extraction of remote sensing images. Firstly, as the features of the road target are rich in local details and simple in semantic features, an Encoder-Decoder network with shallow layers and high resolution is designed to improve the ability to represent detail information. Secondly, as the road area is a small proportion in remote sensing images, the cross-entropy loss function is improved, which solves the imbalance between positive and negative samples in the training process. Experiments on large road extraction datasets show that the proposed method gets the recall rate 83.9%, precision 82.5% and F1-score 82.9%, which can extract the road targets in remote sensing images completely and accurately. The Encoder-Decoder network designed in this paper performs well in the road extraction task and needs less artificial participation, so it has a good application prospect.

BackgroundAbdominopelvic arteriovenous malformation is an uncommon congenital vascular lesion, for which the diagnosis and treatment are usually difficult. Though embolization and sclerotherapy are the primary treatment strategies, traditional surgical resection remains a valuable option.Case PresentationHerein, we present a 32-year-old female diagnosed with a massive abdominopelvic arteriovenous malformation that originates from the splenic artery and drains into the portal vein. The vascular lesion was evaluated with multiple imaging modalities and then surgically resected successfully. The patient was discharged post-operatively on day 6 and free of symptoms during the 12-month follow-up.ConclusionTo our knowledge, the presented abdominopelvic arteriovenous malformation is the first to be reported in the literature, with such a rare condition originating from the splenic artery and draining into the portal vein.

The six transcriptomic immune subtypes (ISs) (C1 - C6) were reported to have complex and different interplay between TME and cancer cells in TCGA (The Cancer Genome Atlas) pan-cancer cohort. Our study specifically explored how the consequence of interplay determines the prognosis and the response to therapy in LUAD cohorts. Clinical and molecular information of LUAD patients were from TCGA and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). The immune cell populations and gene/pathway enrichment analysis were performed to explore the molecular differences among the C3 IS and other ISs in the LUAD population. The proportion of C3 inflammatory IS was identified as the most common IS in both TCGA (N = 457) and GEO (N = 901) cohorts.
