Cinnamomum camphora (C. camphora) is a broad-leaved evergreen tree cultivated in subtropical China. Currently, the use of C. camphora clonal cuttings for coppice management has become popular. However, the effects of C. camphora coppice planting on soil abiotic and biotic variances remained unclear. In this study, we collected soil from three points in the seven-year C. camphora coppice planting land: under the tree canopy (P15), between trees (P50), and abandoned land (Control) to investigate the effects of C. camphora coppice planting on soil fertility, microbial community structure and enzyme activity. The results revealed that C. camphora coppice planting significantly increased soil fertility in the point under the tree canopy (P15) and point between trees (P50), and P15 had more significant effects than P50. Meanwhile, in P15 and P50, soil bacterial, fungal alpha-diversity were improved and microbial community structures were also changed. And the changes of soil organic carbon and total nitrogen promote the transformation of soil bacterial, fungal community structures, respectively. The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) is a millimeter very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) array that has imaged the apparent shadows of the supermassive black holes M87* and Sagittarius A*. Polarimetric data from these observations contain a wealth of information on the black hole and accretion flow properties. In this work, we develop polarimetric geometric modeling methods for mm-VLBI data, focusing on approaches that fit data products with differing degrees of invariance to broad classes of calibration errors. We establish a fitting procedure using a polarimetric “m-ring” model to approximate the image structure near a black hole. By fitting this model to synthetic EHT data from general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic models, we show that the linear and circular polarization structure can be successfully approximated with relatively few model parameters. We then fit this model to EHT observations of M87* taken in 2017. In total intensity and linear polarization, the m-ring fits are consistent with previous results from imaging methods. In circular polarization, the m-ring fits indicate the presence of event-horizon-scale circular polarization structure, with a persistent dipolar asymmetry and orientation across several days. The same structure was recovered independently of observing band, used data products, and model assumptions. Despite this broad agreement, imaging methods do not produce similarly consistent results. Our circular polarization results, which imposed additional assumptions on the source structure, should thus be interpreted with some caution. Polarimetric geometric modeling provides a useful and powerful method to constrain the properties of horizon-scale polarized emission, particularly for sparse arrays like the EHT.

Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) observations have revealed a bright ring of emission around the supermassive black hole at the center of the M87 galaxy. EHT images in linear polarization have further identified a coherent spiral pattern around the black hole, produced from ordered magnetic fields threading the emitting plasma. Here we present the first analysis of circular polarization using EHT data, acquired in 2017, which can potentially provide additional insights into the magnetic fields and plasma composition near the black hole. Interferometric closure quantities provide convincing evidence for the presence of circularly polarized emission on event-horizon scales. We produce images of the circular polarization using both traditional and newly developed methods. All methods find a moderate level of resolved circular polarization across the image (〈∣ v ∣〉 < 3.7%), consistent with the low image-integrated circular polarization fraction measured by the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (∣ v _int ∣ < 1%). Despite this broad agreement, the methods show substantial variation in the morphology of the circularly polarized emission, indicating that our conclusions are strongly dependent on the imaging assumptions because of the limited baseline coverage, uncertain telescope gain calibration, and weakly polarized signal. We include this upper limit in an updated comparison to general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic simulation models. This analysis reinforces the previously reported preference for magnetically arrested accretion flow models. We find that most simulations naturally produce a low level of circular polarization consistent with our upper limit and that Faraday conversion is likely the dominant production mechanism for circular polarization at 230 GHz in M87*.

A limited number of studies focus on the effect of core training on basketball players’ athletic performance and skills. This systematic reviewaimed to comprehensively and critically review the available studies in the literature that investigate the impact of core training on basketball players’ physical and skill performance, and then offer valuable recommendations for both coaches and researchers. Thedata collection, selection, and analysis adhered to the PRISMA protocol. English databases, including Ebscohost, Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar,were searched until September 2022. A total of eight articles were included, with four studies comparing the effects of core training versus traditional strength training or usual basketball training. All studies investigated the impact of core training on athletic performance. The findings revealed that core training can help players improve their overall athletic and skill performance, particularly in the areas of strength, sprinting,jumping, balance, agility, shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, and stepping. In addition, core training, particularly on unstable surfaces,as well as combining static and dynamic core training,improvebasketball players’ athletic and skill performance. Despite the relativelylittle evidence demonstrating the effect of core training on endurance, flexibility, and defensive skills, this review demonstrates that it should be incorporated into basketball training sessions.

BackgroundDiabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the most common complications of diabetes and has become a major global cause of blindness. Curcumin, an extract of Curcuma longa (turmeric), is effective in preventing and treating diabetes. Recent studies have shown that curcumin can delay DR development. However, there has been no systematic review of its treatment of DR. This study will conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of currently published randomized controlled trials (RCT) of curcumin for treating DR patients to evaluate its efficacy and safety.MethodsWe will search the relevant studies of curcumin in the treatment of DR in PubMed, Medline, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), VIP, and Wanfang databases from their respective inception dates to May 2022. A meta-analysis of the data extracted from qualified RCTs will be conducted, including the progression of DR, visual acuity, visual field, macular edema, quality of life, and adverse events. The meta-analysis will be performed using Review Manager 5.4.1 software, and the results will be based on either random-effects or fixed-effects models, depending on the heterogeneity. The Grading of Recommendations, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) system will be used to evaluate the reliability and quality of evidence.ResultsThe results of this study will provide sound and high-quality evidence for the efficacy and safety of curcumin in the treatment of DR.ConclusionThis study will be the first meta-analysis to comprehensively assess the efficacy and safety of curcumin in the treatment of DR and will provide helpful evidence for the clinical management of this disease.Systematic review registrationINPLASY202250002.

Although the core of electrochemistry involves simple oxidation and reduction reactions, it can be complicated in real electrochemical organic reactions. The principles used in electrochemical reactions have been derived using physical organic chemistry, which drives other organic/inorganic reactions. This review mainly comprises two themes: the first discusses the factors that help optimize an electrochemical reaction, including electrodes, supporting electrolytes, and electrochemical cell design, and the second outlines studies conducted in the field over a period of 10 years. Electrochemical reactions can be used as a versatile tool for synthetically important reactions by modifying the constant electrolysis current.

AimsThis study aims to present an in-depth review of the available literature on the effect of core training on skill-related physical fitness performance among soccer players, as well as to offer suggestions for researchers and coaches.MethodsThe data in this study were presented based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guideline. Using scientific databases and web search engines including Scopus, Ebscohost, Web of Science, PubMed, and Google Scholar, researchers collected studies from the published literature. Only 26 of the 84 articles satisfied all the inclusion criteria and were thus included in the systematic review. The quality of each study was determined using the PEDro scale. The scores for 26 studies range between three and six.ResultsCore training can improve soccer players' skill-related physical fitness, including their power, speed, balance, and agility.ConclusionThe core is the anatomic and functional center of the body as well as its “engine.” All movements emanate from the center of the body and are transmitted to the extremities. The core muscles differ from the limb muscles because they frequently cocontract, thus making the torso hard to the point whereby all the muscles work together to become synergists. Theoretically, a strong core permits the passage of force from the lower body to the upper body with minimal energy loss in the torso. Background: Sodium—glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors have proved to be extremely effective and reliable in reducing hyperglycemia, and have also been used for the treatment of cardiovascular and renal disease in patients with or without type 2 diabetes. Thousands of research articles on SGLT2 inhibitors have been published in the past, but few bibliometric analyses have systematically been studied this field. We aimed to visualize the global research hotspots and trends of SGLT2 inhibitors using a bibliometric analysis to provide new evidence and ideas for researchers and clinicians in this field.Methods: We retrieved publications from Science Citation Index Expanded of Web of Science Core Collection in 2004–2022 on 1 July 2022. Microsoft Excel, CiteSpace and VOSviewer were employed to collect publication data, analyze publication trends, and visualize relevant results.Results: We identified 4,419 original research articles on SGLT2 inhibitors published between 2004 and the first half of 2022. Global SGLT2 inhibitors-related research increased rapidly from 2004 to 2022, especially recently. United States made the greatest contribution to the topic, with (1,629, 36.86%) publications and citations (88,892). AstraZeneca was the most prolific institutions (272, 6.16%). Heerspink HJL published the most related articles (98), whereas Zinman B was cited the most frequently (1,784 citations). Diabetes Obesity and Metabolism was the journal with the most studies (406, 9.19%), and The New England Journal of Medicine was the most commonly cited journal (11,617 citations), with nine of the top 10 co-cited references published in this journal. The emerging keywords “heart failure,” “diabetic cardiomyopathy,” “ejection fraction,” “mortality,” “biomarker,” “fibrosis,” “ampk,” and “guideline” appeared the most recently as research frontiers.Conclusion: United States is the leader in SGLT2 inhibitor research. Recently, the research on SGLT2 inhibitors has focused on clinical trials, related mechanisms, and therapy. In the future, the research on SGLT2 inhibitors will delve into molecular mechanisms, especially those related to fibrosis and AMPK, revealing the link between SGLT2 inhibitors and heart failure and diabetic cardiomyopathy will be the next research hotspot.

Abstract Background Sciatica pain is a typical symptom of lumbar disc herniation (LDH), but some neurogenic and malignant tumours surrounding the sciatic nerve can also cause similar symptoms. These tumours are often misdiagnosed or even mistreated as LDH in clinical practice. Case presentation In our clinical practice, we found two patients with malignant tumours who were misdiagnosed with LDH. One patient complained of pain and numbness in the right lower limb. The primary diagnosis was LDH, and the patient underwent posterior lumbar interbody fusion surgery. After the operation, the symptoms were not alleviated. Then, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma involving the soft tissue and the sciatic nerve was identified. Another patient who manifested with radiating pain in the right lower limb was diagnosed with LDH at Chengde Central Hospital. He received regular conservative treatment for approximately 6 months, but his symptoms were not relieved, and then he was referred to our hospital. A malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumour (MPNST) of the sciatic nerve was diagnosed, and he received cisplatin (DDP) chemohyperthermia. Conclusions Descriptions of tumour lesions involving the sciatic nerve and misdiagnosed as LDH in the literature are rare. In the reported literature, 7 patients were misdiagnosed with LDH, and all patients presented with sciatica. Among them, 4 patients only received surgical treatment, 1 patient only underwent neurolysis, and 2 patients received both surgical and chemotherapy treatment. Their low incidence and similar clinical manifestations to LDH make malignant tumours involving the sciatic nerve easy to misdiagnose. When the clinical symptoms and signs are inconsistent with the imaging findings, we need to be aware of non-discogenic sciatica, including tumours involving the sciatic nerve. Furthermore, tumours that grow near the exit of the sciatic notch may be misdiagnosed because of their deeper location and because they are covered with gluteal muscles. Sometimes sciatica caused by sciatic nerve tumours is only distal, without any radicular distribution. This pain is more severe than that caused by LDH, and this pain is not related to the position of the lumbar spine. Thus, it is beneficial to perform a detailed physical examination of the sciatic nerve to avoid this kind of misdiagnosis.

Abstract Background The use of Oxford uni-compartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) has rapidly increased worldwide,however,the relevance of younger patients for postoperative function after Oxford UKA remains unclear. The main purpose of our study is to clarify the effectivemess of Oxford UKA in the younger Chinese patients with anteromedial osteoarthritis (AMOA). Methods We retrospectively enrolled 252 consecutive patients who underwent Oxford UKA for AMOA with a minimum follow-up of 5 years between March 2013 and December 2016. The patients were divided into the younger (≤60 years) and elderly (> 60 years) age groups. The demographic data and surgery variables were recorded and compared. Patient satisfaction grade, range of motion (ROM), Oxford knee score (OKS), Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) score, Western Ontario and McMaster (WOMAC) Universities Osteoarthritis Index score and postoperative complications were recorded. The 5-year survival of the implants were also compared with TKA revision as the endpoint. Results A total of 252 consecutive patients were recruited, including 96 aged 60 years or less and 156 aged over 60 years. The mean follow-up duration in the younger and elderly groups were 73.6 months (SD,standard deviation, 4.1) and 74.7 months (SD 6.2) respectively. Patient satisfaction rate was high in both groups (P = 0.805). Furthermore, no significant differences were observed in postoperative ROM(P = 0.299), OKS(P = 0.117), HSS(P = 0.357) and WOMAC scores(P = 0.151) between the younger and elderly groups (P>0.05). However, the incidence of joint stiffness (P = 0.033) and delayed wound dehiscence (P = 0.026) were significantly different between both groups. Five-year implant survival without revision were also similar in both groups (96.9% vs 97.4%, P = 0.871), and that for the entire cohort was 97.2% (95% CI 95.4–99.6). Conclusion Oxford UKA for AMOA demonstrated favorable results in younger patients aged ≤60 years at a minimum 5-year follow-up in terms of patient satisfaction, functional outcomes, implant survival and postoperative complications. Therefore, younger patients might not be considered as an absolute contraindication to Oxford UKA.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has used herbal remedies for more than 2,000 years. The use of complimentary therapies has increased dramatically during the last years, especially in the West, and the incorporation and modernization of TCM in current medical practice is gaining momentum. We reflect on the main bottlenecks in the modernization of arcane Chinese herbal medicine: lack of standardization, safety concerns and poor quality of clinical trials, as well as the ways these are being overcome. Progress in these areas will facilitate the implementation of an efficacy approach, in which only successful clinical trials lead to the molecular characterization of active compounds and their mechanism of action. Traditional pharmacological methodologies will produce novel leads and drugs, and we describe TCM successes such as the discovery of artemisinin as well as many others still in the pipeline. Neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease, cancer and cardiovascular disease are the main cause of mortality in the Western world and, with an increasing old population in South East Asia, this trend will also increase in the Far East. TCM has been used for long time for treating these diseases in China and other East Asian countries. However, the holistic nature of TCM requires a paradigm shift. By changing our way of thinking, from “one-target, one-drug” to “network-target, multiple-component-therapeutics,” network pharmacology, together with other system biology methodologies, will pave the way toward TCM modernization.

Many studies have reported the influence of dispersal processes on aquatic bacterial communities, but the role of community coalescence is still unknown in sediment-laden rivers. Here, we examined the assembly of distinctive bacterial communities (free-living [FL], particle-attached [PA], and surface-sediment [SS]) with differing habitat preferences across different regions of the Yellow River (China) in the spring and autumn of 2019. We demonstrated that in both seasons SS bacteria featured the highest diversity, followed by PA bacteria, and then FL bacteria. Nonetheless, both FL and PA groups showed remarkable seasonal variation in water samples, while the SS group in sediment samples showed significant spatial variation. Furthermore, species sorting and dispersal limitation respectively governed the biogeographic patterns (strong distance–decay relationships) of water and sediment bacterial communities. With respect to community coalescence, not only the same habitats (i.e., water–water, particle–particle, and sediment–sediment) but also similar habitats (i.e., water–particle) had higher proportions of overlapped amplicon sequence variants (ASVs) compared with different habitats (i.e., water–sediment and particle–sediment). Moreover, the proportions of overlapped ASVs between PA and SS groups were higher than those between FL and SS groups. Network analysis revealed that the SS group harbored the highest network complexity, followed by PA and FL groups. Most connectors in the networks were identified as FL–PA–SS ASVs irrespective of the river reaches sampled. These findings demonstrate the biogeographic patterns of distinctive bacterial communities driven by species sorting and dispersal limitation, and provide evidence for bacterial community coalescence in the Yellow River’s water and sediment. Bacteria attached to suspended particles may play a paramount role in the microbial ecology of different habitats in large sediment-laden rivers.

Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a common disorder of the central nervous system with considerable socio-economic burden. Andrographolide (Andro), the main active component of Andrographis paniculata, has exhibited neuroprotective effects in different models of neurological diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the neuroprotective effects of Andro against SCI and explore the related mechanisms.Methods: SCI was induced in rats by the Allen method, and the modeled animals were randomly divided into sham-operated, SCI, SCI + normal saline (NS) and SCI + Andro groups. The rats were injected intraperitoneally with Andro (1 mg/kg) or the same volume of NS starting day one after the establishment of the SCI model for 28 consecutive days. Post-SCI tissue repair and functional recovery were evaluated by measuring the spinal cord water content, footprint tests, Basso-Beattie-Bresnahan (BBB) scores, hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining and Nissl staining. Apoptosis, oxidative stress and inflammation, as well as axonal regeneration and remyelination were analyzed using suitable markers. The in vitro model of SCI was established by treating cortical neurons with H2O2. The effects of Andro on apoptosis, oxidative stress and inflammation were evaluated as indicated.Results: Andro treatment significantly improved tissue repair and functional recovery after SCI by reducing apoptosis, oxidative stress and inflammation through the nuclear factor E2-related factor 2/heme oxygenase-1 (Nrf-2/HO-1) and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) signaling pathways. Furthermore, Andro treatment promoted M2 polarization of the microglial cells and contributed to axonal regeneration and remyelination to improve functional recovery after SCI. In addition, Andro also attenuated apoptosis, oxidative stress and inflammation in H2O2-stimulated cortical neurons in vitro.Conclusion: Andro treatment alleviated SCI by reducing apoptosis, oxidative stress and inflammation in the injured tissues and cortical neurons, and promoted axonal regeneration and remyelination for functional recovery.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is increasingly becoming a main complication of diabetes, and is difficult to cure. In our research, network pharmacology analysis suggested that both compound Danshen dripping pills (CDDP) and bezafibrate (BZF) have potential protective effects against DR and the two drugs may act synergistically. The pharmacological effects of the coadministration of CDDP and BZF were elucidated in db/db mice, which simulate DR. Fluorescein fundus angiography showed that coadministration attenuated vascular leakage. Optical coherence tomography and hematoxylin and eosin staining showed that coadministration improved retinal thickness better than CDDP monotherapy. In addition, cell fluorescence images of reactive oxygen species revealed that coadministration of CDDP and BZF had more potent effects against oxidative stress than CDDP monotherapy. Metabolomics analysis showed that coadministration reduced the ratio of oxidized glutathione to reduced glutathione further than CDDP monotherapy. Coadministration of CDDP and BZF may provide additional protective effects by resisting vascular leakage, increasing retinal thickness, and inhibiting inflammation and oxidative stress in DR.

Floodplains play essential roles in the ecological functions of regional environments. The merging and coalescence of bacterial communities in aquatic environments results in periodic patterns driven by regular hydrological activities, which may, in turn, influence ecological activities. However, the degree of bacterial community coalescence in the lateral and vertical directions as well as the underlying hydrological mechanism of floodplain ecosystems is poorly understood. Therefore, we investigated the spatiotemporal patterns and coalescence processes of planktonic and sedimentary bacterial communities during normal and high-water periods in a floodplain ecosystem of the Yellow River source region. We classified bacterial operational taxonomic units (OTUs) based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing, and quantified community coalescence by calculating the proportions of overlapping OTUs, the contributions of upstream sources to downstream sinks, and positive/negative cohesion. The results revealed major differences in the composition and diversity of planktonic and sedimentary bacterial communities. Bacterial community diversity in the high-water period was higher than in the normal period. Laterally, hydrological connectivity promoted the immigration and coalescence of bacterial communities to oxbow lakes in both the mainstream and tributaries, with the coalescence degree of planktonic bacteria (2.9%) higher than that of sedimentary bacteria (1.7%). Vertically, the coalescence degree of mainstream planktonic and sedimentary bacterial communities was highest, reaching 2.9%. Co-occurrence network analysis revealed that hydrological connectivity increased the complexity of the bacterial network and enhanced the coalescence of keystone species to oxbow lakes. Furthermore, community coalescence improved the competitiveness and dispersal of bacterial communities. This study demonstrated that coalescence of bacterial communities is driven by hydrological connectivity in a floodplain ecosystem. Further studies should investigate the processes of bacterial community coalescence in floodplains in more detail, which could provide new approaches for environmental protection and ecological function preservation.

Background:Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is one of the most common chronic bacterial infections worldwide. The resistance of H. pylori to antibiotics may increase the risk of treatment failure. Complementary and alternative regimens are still needed. This study aimed to critically assess the efficacy and safety of Jinghua Weikang capsule (JWC) for H. pylori eradication.Materials and methods: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Digital Periodicals, and Chinese Science and Technology Periodicals database were searched from inception to April 2022. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing a combination of JWC and conventional treatments with conventional treatments alone or combined with a placebo for H. pylori eradication were considered for inclusion. The primary outcome was H. pylori eradication rate. The meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis (TSA) were conducted where possible.Results: A total of 34 studies were included in the statistical analysis. A pooled result showed that JWC with the duration of 2 weeks combined with the triple/quadruple therapy could significantly increase the H. pylori eradication rate compared with the triple/quadruple therapy alone (RR: 1.13, 95% CI: 1.05 to 1.21, p = 0.0008). However, the evidence of benefit was not confirmed by TSA. Another pooled result showed that JWC with the duration of 4 weeks combined with the triple/quadruple therapy could significantly increase the H. pylori eradication rate compared with the triple/quadruple therapy alone (RR: 1.21, 95% CI: 1.15 to 1.27, p < 0.00001). The evidence of benefit was confirmed by TSA. There were no statistically significant differences in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups.Conclusion: The present study suggests that JWC with the duration of 4 weeks can significantly improve the H. pylori eradication rate and should be considered as a complementary treatment to conventional regimens for H. pylori eradication. However, more high-quality RCTs are still needed to confirm these findings.

The quantity and quality of children's digital screen media exposure is an emerging area of early childhood studies because of its strong social relevance, and this has been particularly true since the COVID-19 pandemic. The few existing parental questionnaires on children's digital screen media exposure mainly focus on monolingual children's media habits and address either the quantity or quality of children's media exposure. Inspired by the existing instruments, the current study introduces a new parental questionnaire to comprehensively assess the duration, frequency, content, design, and use of bilingual children's digital screen media exposure at home, before and since the COVID-19 pandemic. Focus group discussions and the first wave of our data collection on 141 3–6 years old Singaporean bilingual children indicate good face validity and internal consistency of the parental questionnaire. Our results reveal substantial differences in children’s quantity and quality of daily digital screen media exposure, as well as the discrepancies in their digital media habits between English and their mother tongue languages, before and since the COVID-19 pandemic.

BackgroundDue to causing inability of self-regulation (ego depletion) and executive functions such as directed attention and visual searching for relevant information (e.g., the ball location and the position of teammates), mental fatigue impairs skilled performance in various sports. On the other hand, natural scenes could improve directed attention, which may considerably benefit visual searching ability and self-regulation. However, nature exposure as a potential intervention to improve skilled performance among mentally fatigued athletes has not been discussed thoroughly.PurposeTo propose the potential intervention for the impairment of skilled performance among mentally fatigued athletes and generate a framework for future studies.MethodsA narrative review was applied to search broadly across disciplines, retrieving literature from several databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and EBSCOhost).ResultsThirty-three works of literature including 39 experiments (mental fatigue 15; ego depletion 5; and nature exposure 19) were obtained. Finally, a conceptual framework was built regarding the effect of nature exposure intervention on skilled performance in athletes for future studies.ConclusionThree theories (the psychobiological model of exercise performance, the strength model of self-regulation, and attention restoration theory) could be potentially integrated to be a conceptual framework and explain the mechanism of preventing prior mental exertion (e.g., mental fatigue and ego depletion). Future studies could examine more on the duration of the intervention.

It is clinical reported that YangXue QingNao Wan (YXQNW) combined with donepezil can significantly improve the cognitive function of AD patients. However, the mechanism is not clear. A network pharmacology approach was employed to predict the protein targets and affected pathways of YXQNW in the treatment of AD. Based on random walk evaluation, the correlation between YXQNW and AD was calculated; while a variety of AD clinical approved Western drugs were compared. The targets of YXQNW were enriched and analyzed by using the TSEA platform and MetaCore. We proved that the overall correlation between YXQNW and AD is equivalent to clinical Western drugs, but the mechanism of action is very different. Firstly, YXQNW may promote cerebral blood flow velocity by regulating platelet aggregation and the vasoconstriction/relaxation signal pathway, which has been verified by clinical meta-analysis. Secondly, YXQNW may promote Aβ degradation in the liver by modulating the abnormal glucose and lipid metabolisms via the adiponectin-dependent pathway, RXR/PPAR-dependent lipid metabolism signal pathway, and fatty acid synthase activity signal pathway. We also verified whether YXQNW indeed promoted Aβ degradation in hepatic stellate cells. This work provides a novel scientific basis for the mechanism of YXQNW in the treatment of AD.

BackgroundMental fatigue largely influences technical performance in soccer, including offensive and defensive skills. However, these effects on technical performance among the soccer players have not yet been aggregated to be assessed systematically.ObjectiveThe purpose of the review was to evaluate the impact of mental fatigue on soccer players' overall technical skills.MethodsDrawing on Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, and EBSCOhost (CENTRAL and SPORTDicus), an in-depth search was conducted. PICOS established the eligibility criteria to select the studies as follows: (i) population—healthy soccer players; (ii) intervention—involving any mental-fatigue-prompted protocol; (iii) comparison—control conditions (active or passive without inducing mental fatigue); (iv) outcomes—technical performance (offensive and defensive skill); and (v) study design—randomized controlled trials.ResultsA total of eight studies were qualified for inclusion in the systematic literature review. Overall, the results indicate that mental fatigue had significant effects on technical skills, including offensive and defensive skills. Specifically, there were significant effects on errors (ES = 0.977; p < 0.001), number of tackles (ES = −0.739; p = 0.005), and the percentage of successful tackles (ES = −0.628; p = 0.022), while there were no significant effects on the number of passes (ES = 0.240; p = 0.328), the percentage of accurate passing (ES = −0.008; p = 0.985), and the number of successful passes (ES = −0.322; p = 0.217).ConclusionOverall, a significant effect of mental fatigue on the technical performance (e.g., tackles and errors) of soccer players was detected, while no significant effects on passing skills were detected. Purpose: Currently, the early diagnosis and treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) remain a challenge. In the present study, we attempted to explore potential biomarkers for the diagnosis and treatment of OA.Methods: The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified based on three mRNA datasets of synovial tissues for OA patients and normal controls downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Furthermore, Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis were used for evaluating gene function related categories. Then, miRNA sequencing was performed for differentially expressed miRNAs’ identification. Finally, weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was performed for genes detected by the three mRNA datasets and a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network with DEGs and differentially expressed microRNAs (miRNAs) was constructed for central genes identification. In addition, the relationship between central gene expression and immune infiltration was analyzed, and the candidate agents for OA were predicted based on the Connectivity Map database. Quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR), Western blotting analysis, and immunofluorescent staining were performed to validate the expression levels of differentially expressed miRNAs and differentially expressed target genes in normal and OA tissues and chondrocytes. MiRNA–mRNA network was also validated in chondrocytes in vitro.Results: A total of 259 DEGs and 26 differentially expressed miRNAs were identified, among which 94 miRNA–mRNA interactions were predicted. The brown module in WGCNA was most closely correlated with the clinical traits of OA. After overlapping the brown module genes with miRNA–mRNA pairs, 27 miRNA–mRNA pairs were obtained. A ceRNA network was constructed with 5505 lncRNA–miRNA–mRNA interactions. B-cell translocation gene 2(BTG2), Abelson-related gene (ABL2), and vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) were identified to be the central genes with good predictive performance, which were significantly correlated with immune cell infiltration in OA, reflected by declined activated dendritic cells (aDCs), and elevated contents of B cells, macrophages, neutrophils, and T helper cells. Anisomycin, MG-132, thapsigargin, and lycorine were predicted to be the potential candidate agents for OA intervention. In vitro, the expression levels of differentially expressed miRNAs and biomarkers identified in the present study were consistent with the results obtained in normal or OA knee cartilage tissues and chondrocytes. Furthermore, BTG2 was identified to be negatively regulated by miR-125a-5p.Conclusion: BTG2, ABL2, and VEGFA can be regarded as potential predictive and treatment biomarkers for OA, which might guide the clinical therapy of OA.

BackgroundPrior mental exertion consumes self-regulation and influences any subsequent physical or cognitive performance according to the strength model of self-regulation. However, the counteractive effect of self-regulatory strength training remains unclear.ObjectiveThis study aims to report a comprehensive systematic review investigating self-regulatory strength training programmes on physical or cognitive performance.MethodsTo select relevant studies from the available literature, a thorough search was conducted on PubMed, Web of Science, EBSCOhost (CENTRAL, Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection, SPORTDicus), Scopus, and Google Scholar, as well as the sources of reference for gray literature. Only randomized controlled trials involving healthy humans, strength-based self-regulation training programmes with comparable protocols, and a physical or cognitive task associated with the study were selected for the current review. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment Development and Evaluation (GRADE) framework was used to develop the summary of findings.ResultsTwelve articles were included based on the selection criteria. Evidence certainty for outcomes was graded as either low or very low level. The majority of the studies reported that self-regulatory strength training programmes can significantly counter prior mental exertion and decrement of performance, while only one study did not find such improvement. According to the strength model, a period of training increased the ‘self-regulatory muscle.'ConclusionStrength is an important ingredient in the resource model of self-regulation and can be trained to counter prior mental exertion and improve subsequent physical and cognitive performance. The training effects are cross-domain (e.g., emotional and cognitive domains; higher and lower levels of executive functions). However, motivation plays a key role to mobilize this resource. Background: This study aims to present a critical review of the existing literature on the effect of core training on athletes’ skill performance, and to provide recommendations and suggest future research directions for both coaches and researchers.Methods: The data in this study were reported using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guideline. We collected studies in the literature using prominent academic and scientific databases such as Ebscohost, Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. Only 16 of the 119 studies met all of the inclusion criteria, and were thus included in the systematic review. Each study’s quality was determined using the PEDro scale. The scoring of 16 studies ranges from 2 to 5.Results: Core training could potentially improve skill performance among football, handball, basketball, swimming, dancing, Karate, Muay Thai, gymnasts, volleyball, badminton, and golf players.Conclusion: Compared with the traditional training methods, core training is a new strength training method. Strong core muscles function as hubs in the biological motor chain, which create a fulcrum for the four limbs’ strength and establish a channel for the cohesion, transmission, and integration of the upper and lower limbs. In other words, core training optimizes the transfer and overall control of motion and force to the terminal segment within athletic actions. Meanwhile, core training could increase stability and stiffness in the spine to reduce unrequired “energy leaks” and torso movement during the exertion of external loads. This mechanism could help athletes achieve better skill performance. Narrative skills play an important role in children's reading, communication, and critical thinking. Most studies on narrative skills are based on monolingual children from middle- to upper middle-class populations and few have examined bilingual children's narratives outside of the western context. These factors may impose different sociocultural influences on children's storytelling abilities. The current study focuses on English-Mandarin bilingual children in Singapore and explores: (1) how English-Mandarin bilinguals apply their Mandarin lexical-grammatical proficiency to a given narrative task and (2) the compensatory strategies they employ in their Mandarin narratives. Data was obtained from 186 K1 pre-schoolers (85 boys and 101 girls) aged four to five. Children's Mandarin narrative skills were assessed with the Multilingual Assessment Instrument for Narratives (MAIN; Gagarina et al. in ZAS Pap Linguist 56:155-155, 2012. https://doi.org/10.21248/zaspil.56.2019.414). Their macrostructural knowledge (e.g., story grammar) was scored with the MAIN coding scheme, and their microstructural knowledge (e.g., mean length of utterance) was calculated with CLAN. Children's Mandarin lexical-grammatical proficiency (i.e., receptive vocabulary, receptive grammar, and semantic fluency) was assessed with standard tests. The results indicate that compared to children's microstructural knowledge, their macrostructural knowledge was more influenced by their Mandarin competence. Children used a variety of strategies to compensate for their limited Mandarin competence, and the most frequently used ones were generalisation (e.g., all classifiers of nouns were "[foreign character omitted]"), codeswitching (at both the word and sentential levels), and sentential structural transfer.

This study examined the within- and cross-language relationships between intrinsic language learning motivation, home literacy environment (shared book reading, parental literacy involvement, and parent perceived child literacy interest), and receptive vocabulary in 185 bilingual preschoolers and 233 primary school children in Singapore. Age differences were also examined. Unlike the motivation decline commonly observed in middle childhood, the primary school children demonstrated higher levels of intrinsic motivation than the preschoolers in both English and the second language (L2). Results showed a motivation gap between English and children's L2 in primary school children but not in preschoolers. The hierarchical regression results revealed that intrinsic motivation and the three facets of home literacy environment (HLE) were differentially involved in receptive vocabulary across languages and age groups. Within-language relations showed that intrinsic motivation only predicted receptive vocabulary in English among primary school children, but not among preschoolers. Among primary school children, parent perceived child literacy interest in L2 was the only significant predictor of L2 receptive vocabulary; among preschoolers, shared book reading was the only significant predictor. Cross-language relations revealed that parental literacy involvement in English negatively predicted L2 receptive vocabulary in primary school children, and there were no L2 effects on English receptive vocabulary.

Abstract Asynchronous sampling and the ghost point are significant issues in the track‐to‐track association (TTTA) for passive multisensor system. A TTTA algorithm is proposed based on a trajectory parameter to address these issues. According to advantages in which the trajectory information can represent the target motion state and will not change with the sampling time, we turn the TTTA problem into the trajectory parameter matching problem. First, a TTTA model is established by the heading angle and the target velocity. Then, an estimation of target velocity that is suitable for asynchronous sampling is modelled using trajectory parameters from different sensors. Furthermore, to avoid the ghost point in the data association, we use only the bearing measurement of a single sensor to derive the trajectory parameters. Finally, an assignment method is adopted to determine the correspondence between different tracks. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method compared with competing algorithms.

Image stitching is of great importance for multiple fields such as moving object detection and tracking, ground reconnaissance and augmented reality. To ameliorate the stitching effect and alleviate the mismatch rate, an effective image stitching algorithm based on color difference and an improved KAZE with a fast guided filter is proposed. Firstly, the fast guided filter is introduced to reduce the mismatch rate before feature matching. Secondly, the KAZE algorithm based on improved random sample consensus is used for feature matching. Then, the color difference and brightness difference of the overlapping area are calculated to make an overall adjustment to the original images so as to improve the nonuniformity of the splicing result. Finally, the warped images with color difference compensation are fused to obtain the stitched image. The proposed method is evaluated by both visual effect mapping and quantitative values. In addition, the proposed algorithm is compared with other current popular stitching algorithms. The results show that the proposed algorithm is superior to other algorithms in terms of the quantity of feature point pairs, the matching accuracy, the root mean square error and the mean absolute error.

Oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH) is an alternative for styrene (ST) production compared to the direct dehydrogenation process. However, ODH with O2 or CO2 suffers from either over-oxidation or endothermic property/low ethylbenzene conversion. Herein, we proposed an ODH process with a CO2-O2 mixture atmosphere for the efficient conversion of ethylbenzene (EB) into styrene. A thermoneutral ODH is possible by the rationalizing of CO2/O2 molar ratios from 0.65 to 0.66 in the temperature range of 300 to 650 °C. K modification is favorable for ethylbenzene dehydrogenation, and 10%K/CeO2 achieved the highest ethylbenzene dehydrogenation activity due to the enhanced oxygen mobility and CO2 adsorbability. The catalyst achieved 90.8% ethylbenzene conversion and 97.5% styrene selectivity under optimized conditions of CO2-4O2 oxidation atmosphere, a temperature of 500 °C, and a space velocity of 5.0 h−1. It exhibited excellent catalytic and structural stability during a 50 h long-term test. CO2 induces oxygen vacancies in ceria and promotes oxygen exchange between gaseous oxygen and ceria. The ethylbenzene dehydrogenation in CO2-O2 follows a Mars-van Krevelen (MvK) reaction mechanism via Ce3+/Ce4+ redox pairs. The proposed ODH strategy by using oxygen vacancies enriched catalysts offers an important insight into the efficient dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene at mild conditions.

Abstract Background Anterior gradient-2 (AGR2) is a proto-oncogene involved in tumorigenesis and cancer progression. AGR2, predominantly localized in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), is also a secreted protein detected in the extracellular compartment in multiple cancers. However, the biological functions of intracellular and extracellular AGR2 remain to be elucidated. Methods Based on the biochemical structure of AGR2 protein, PANC-1 pancreatic cancer cells stably expressing ER-resident or secreted AGR2 were generated by a lentivirus-mediated stable overexpression system. The capacities of cell proliferation, migration, invasion and survival were assessed in PANC-1 stable cells. Moreover, EGFR expression and activation were determined to explore the possible mechanism of AGR2 roles in pancreatic cancer tumorigenesis. Results It was discovered that secreted AGR2, but not ER-resident AGR2, promotes cell proliferation, migration and invasion of PANC-1 cells. Moreover, the data indicated that both the ER-resident and the secreted AGR2 enhance the survival capacity of PANC-1 cells after tunicamycin-induced ER stress and gemcitabine treatment. However, EGFR expression and activation were not found to be involved in AGR2-dependent oncogenic phenotypes in PANC-1 cells. Conclusions Secreted AGR2 is predominantly involved in cell proliferation, migration and invasion in PANC-1 pancreatic cancer cells. Both secreted and ER-resident AGR2 contribute to the survival of PANC-1 cells under the challenging conditions. These findings provide insight into how different localizations of AGR2 have contributed to pancreatic cancer growth, metastasis, and drug sensitivity.

Context Previous studies indicate that compound Danshen Dripping Pill (CDDP) improves the adaptation to high-altitude exposure. However, its mechanism of action is not clear. Objective To explore the protective effect of CDDP on hypobaric hypoxia (HH) and its possible mechanism. Materials and methods A meta-analysis of 1051 human volunteers was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of CDDP at high altitudes. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomized into 5 groups (n = 6): control at normal pressure, model, CDDP-170 mg/kg, CDDP-340 mg/kg and acetazolamide groups. HH was simulated at an altitude of 5500 m for 24 h. Animal blood was collected for arterial blood-gas analysis and cytokines detection and their organs were harvested for pathological examination. Expression levels of AQP1, NF-κB and Nrf2 were determined by immunohistochemical staining. Results The meta-analysis data indicated that the ratio between the combined RR of the total effective rate and the 95% CI was 0.23 (0.06, 0.91), the SMD and 95% CI of SO2 was 0.37 (0.12, 0.62). Pre-treatment of CDDP protected rats from HH-induced pulmonary edoema and heart injury, left-shifted oxygen-dissociation curve and decreased P50 (30.25 ± 3.72 vs. 37.23 ± 4.30). Mechanistically, CDDP alleviated HH-reinforced ROS by improving SOD and GPX1 while inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines and NF-κB expression. CDDP also decreased HH-evoked D-dimer, erythrocyte aggregation and blood hemorheology, promoting AQP1 and Nrf2 expression. Discussion and conclusions Pre-treatment with CDDP could prevent HH-induced tissue damage, oxidative stress and inflammatory response. Suppressed NF-κB and up-regulated Nrf2 might play significant roles in the mechanism of CDDP.

Based on the identification and evaluation method of hourly resolution precipitation processes, the annually and monthly variations of precipitation processes in different urban development stages were analyzed in seven major urban agglomerations of China, namely the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration, Yangtze river delta urban agglomeration, the Pearl River delta urban agglomeration, chengdu-chongqing urban agglomeration, Yangtze river middle reaches urban agglomeration, central plains city, and the guanzhong plain urban agglomeration. The hourly precipitation observation data from 1980 to 2019 were used in this study. The results showed: the frequency of precipitation processes in the seven urban agglomerations appeared an increasing trend especially after 2010; the frequency of precipitation processes was observed in winter and gradually increased from less to more; the hours of annual average precipitation increased, but the average process hours decreased; the durations of precipitation processes were increasing in March to April and August to September and decreasing in May to July; there were an increasing trend of the extreme + extra-strong + strong precipitation processes; the number of extreme and extra-strong precipitation processes increased significantly in August and September, while the strong precipitation process increased from March to June, and the heavy and medium-intensity precipitation processes increased in winter during the period of rapid urban development.

Purpose – This study explores the different learning practices of Chinese incubators in Chongqing and Chengdu and delves into how these “learning huddles” influence incubatees' absorptive capacity (the ability to apply knowledge) to improve their chance of success (sustainable growth). Design/methodology/approach – This explorative study uses a qualitative case study approach by means of semi-structured interviews with business incubation managers and incubatees across three business incubators in Chengdu and Chongqing. The data are transcribed, coded and analyzed using an analytic map for the explanation of building and reflecting on the theoretical propositions, leading to a further understanding of the “learning huddle” mechanism. Findings – The study finds that incubatees perceive that their absorptive capacity is increased through vicarious informal learning practices that promote access to networks and thereby builds social capital to improve their likelihood of success. Research limitations/implications – This study has limitations in sample size and design. The explorative case study approach uses a nonrandom case selection of three incubators in Chongqing and Chengdu and has a limited number of interviewees, which may lack representation of the general Chinese business incubation population and may not sufficiently be generalized beyond the sample itself. Practical implications – These findings have important implications for business incubation programs. Business incubators that build learning huddles (networks) create a nurturing shared learning environment, which is suitable for incubatees to collectively absorb knowledge at the early stage of their life cycle and improve their likelihood of sustainable growth. Social implications – Since this study is limited to a Chinese context, it is also hoped that future researchers use the typology of business incubator learning practices to explore cross-culture variables, as these may influence the business incubation operations and performance. Originality/value – This study adds to the discussion on how collective learning practices facilitate absorptive capacity and build social capital, which in turn improves incubatees' chance of sustainable growth and as such the authors hope that the learning practice's typology and how incubatees determine their success stimulates further research for measuring the likelihood of incubatees sustainable growth.

The minimum miscible pressure is one of the key factors to realize miscible flooding. As the minimum miscible pressure in the research area is higher than the formation fracture pressure, miscible flooding cannot be formed. To address this problem, it is necessary to find a way to reduce the minimum miscible pressure. Citric acid isopentyl ester can not only be dissolved in crude oil, but also be dissolved in carbon dioxide. Therefore, citric acid isopentyl ester was chosen to reduce the minimum miscible pressure in this research. The effect of citric acid isopentyl ester on reducing the minimum miscible pressure was measured by the method of long slim tube displacement experiment. The minimum miscible pressure in the research area was 29.6 MPa. The experimental results show that the minimum miscible pressure could decrease significantly with increasing the injected slug size of citric acid isopentyl ester, but the decrease became smaller and smaller. The optimum injected slug size of the chemical reagent is 0.003 PV. Under the condition of the slug size, the minimum miscible pressure was 24.1 MPa. The reduction was 5.5 MPa. The reduction rate was 18.58%. The research results have important guiding significance for enhancing oil recovery in the research area.

Ischemic stroke (IS) is an acute neurological injury that occurs when a vessel supplying blood to the brain is obstructed, which is a leading cause of death and disability. Salvia miltiorrhiza has been used in the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases for over thousands of years due to its effect activating blood circulation and dissipating blood stasis. However, the herbal preparation is chemically complex and the diversity of potential targets makes difficult to determine its mechanism of action. To gain insight into its mechanism of action, we analyzed “Salvianolic acid for injection” (SAFI), a traditional Chinese herbal medicine with anti-IS effects, using computational systems pharmacology. The potential targets of SAFI, obtained from literature mining and database searches, were compared with IS-associated genes, giving 38 common genes that were related with pathways involved in inflammatory response. This suggests that SAFI might function as an anti-inflammatory agent. Two genes associated with inflammation (PTGS1 and PTGS2), which were inhibited by SAFI, were preliminarily validated in vitro. The results showed that SAFI inhibited PTGS1 and PTGS2 activity in a dose-dependent manner and inhibited the production of prostaglandin E2 induced by lipopolysaccharide in RAW264.7 macrophages and BV-2 microglia. This approach reveals the possible pharmacological mechanism of SAFI acting on IS, and also provides a feasible way to elucidate the mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

BackgroundIt has been well investigated that nature exposure intervention can restore directed attention and improve subsequent cognitive performance. The impairment of decision-making skills in mentally fatigued soccer players was attributed to the inability of attention allocation. However, nature exposure as the potential intervention to counter mental fatigue and improve the subsequent decision-making skill in soccer players has never been investigated.ObjectsThis study aimed to evaluate the effects of nature exposure intervention on decision-making skills among mentally fatigued university soccer players. Moreover, different durations of nature exposure were also evaluated.MethodsA random control between-subject design was adopted. Players were randomly assigned into six groups with three different durations of the experimental group compared with the corresponding control group (4.17 min: Exp 1 vs. Con 1; 8.33 min: Exp 2 vs. Con 2; and 12.50 min: Exp 3 vs. Con 3). All players were first mentally fatigued by performing a 45-min Stroop task; then, they viewed virtual photos of natural or urban scenes; and finally, they performed a soccer decision-making task.ResultsThe subjective ratings of mental fatigue were significantly higher following the Stroop task. Only Exp 3 (12.50 min viewing natural scenes) significantly improved decision-making reaction time compared with Con 3 (p = 0.09). Moreover, the accuracy slightly increased in Exp 3 after the intervention.ConclusionIn line with attention restoration theory, nature exposure significantly improved decision-making skills in mentally fatigue university players. However, the duration must be 12.50 min for each stimulus to stay longer to attract involuntary attention.

IntroductionThis study aims to assess the value of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) in the diagnosis of Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PJP) and its mixed infection in non-human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) immunosuppressed patients.MethodsA total of 198 non-HIV immunosuppressed patients with severe pneumonia were enrolled, including 77 PJP patients and 121 patients infected by other pathogens. BALF-mNGS and traditional detection methods were used.ResultsThe positive detection rate of various pathogens of BALF-mNGS was higher than that of the conventional methods, especially for mixed pathogens. The sensitivity and specificity of BALF-mNGS for the diagnosis of PJP were 97.40% and 85.12%, respectively. Compared with traditional methods, the sensitivity of BALF-mNGS was significantly higher than that of blood fungal G (BG)/lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and BALF-microscopy (p

Lithium isotope geochemical studies of oceanic-type eclogites benefited from previous investigation of altered oceanic crust; however, processes of lithium isotope exchange operating on altered protoliths of continental-type eclogites have remained unclear. Here, the Li concentration and isotopic composition of fresh and altered continental basalts from the South China Block were measured to decipher Li and its isotopic fractionation during subaerial alteration processes. The results show that altered South China basalts have higher Li concentration (11.4–117.7 ppm) and lower δ7Li values (−4.3–+0.5‰) than fresh basalts (Li: 5.0 ppm and δ7Li: ∼3‰). It is found that hydrothermal alteration played an important role in increasing the Li concentration of altered basalts, which is supported by the relation of loss on ignition and Li concentration. Subsequently, continental weathering acted on chlorite-bearing basalts, as evidenced by the occurrence of minor kaolinite and illite and weathering trend of δ7Li values in these basalts. Detailed petrography and in situ geochemical analyses are used to show that chlorite is the chief repository for Li in weathered basalts, supporting that it was responsible for decreasing δ7Li value by Rayleigh distillation during weathering. Because of the lower δ7Li values of continental altered basalts than oceanic altered crust, it is concluded that, in addition to the dehydration of subducted slabs and possible Li diffusion, the extremely light Li isotopic values of continental-type eclogites worldwide partly result from isotope fractionation caused by the continental weathering of their protoliths.

“Chloroquine phosphate” was listed as a trial drug in diagnosis and treatment program of COVID-19(trial sixth edition), and the application of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine treatment for COVID-19 in medical institutions also increased. Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine have certain retinal toxicity, its mechanism is still unclear, due to different drug tolerance, the risk degree of retinal toxicity in COVID-19 treatment is unclear. Therefore, when using chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine in the treatment of COVID-19, it is recommended to choose the appropriate dosage according to patients' situation, and adopt necessary ophthalmic screening for patients with high risk to prevent the occurrence of retinopathy. In this paper, we described the risk factors, clinical manifestations and screening methods of retinal toxicity caused by chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, in order to provide references for the safer use of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine in the treatment of COVID-19.

Due to tumour microenvironment, Fenton reactions have low therapeutic efficiency. Here the authors report on the application of NIR-II hybrid semiconducting nanozymes for combined photothermal therapy and enhanced ferrotherapy with photoacoustic imaging and show application in vivo in tumour models.

AIM: To investigate the effect of berberine on proliferation of in vitro pterygium fibroblasts and its possible mechanism.METHODS: Pterygium fibroblast obtained from cultured pterygium tissue after surgical excision. Pterygium fibroblasts cells apoptosis level, mitochondrial membrane potential and apoptosis-related factors mRNA and protein expression levels were detected after the induction of berberine with different final concentrations(0, 20, 40, 80μmol/L).RESULTS: Berberine increased the mitochondrial depolarization level, apoptosis rate, expression level of pro-apoptotic gene Bax, Bad mRNA and protein, and decreased the expression level of Bcl-2 gene mRNA and protein in vitro pterygium fibroblasts cells in a dose-dependent manner. CONCLUSION: Berberine may induce in vitro cultured pterygium cell apoptosis by increasing mitochondrial depolarization.

Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD) exerts a global challenge to public health. Genetic heritability is one of the most vital contributing factors in the pathophysiology of CAD. Co-expression network analysis is an applicable and robust method for the interpretation of biological interaction from microarray data. Previous CAD studies have focused on peripheral blood samples since the processes of CAD may vary from tissue to blood. It is therefore necessary to find biomarkers for CAD in heart tissues; their association also requires further illustration.Materials and Methods: To filter for causal genes, an analysis of microarray expression profiles, GSE12504 and GSE22253, was performed with weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). Co-expression modules were constructed after batch effect removal and data normalization. The results showed that 7 co-expression modules with 8,525 genes and 1,210 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified. Furthermore, Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses were conducted. Four major pathways in CAD tissue and hub genes were addressed in the Hybrid Mouse Diversity Panel (HMDP) and Human Protein Atlas (HPA), and isoproterenol (ISO)/doxycycline (DOX)-induced heart toxicity models were used to validate the hub genes. Lastly, the hub genes and risk variants were verified in the CAD cohort and in genome-wide association studies (GWAS).Results: The results showed that RNF181 and eight other hub genes are perturbed during CAD in heart tissues. Additionally, the expression of RNF181 was validated using RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining in two cardiotoxicity mouse models. The association was further verified in the CAD patient cohort and in GWAS.Conclusion: Our findings illustrated for the first time that the E3 ubiquitination ligase protein RNF181 may serve as a potential biomarker in CAD, but further in vivo validation is warranted.

Monitoring the dynamics of ocean-going fishing vessels is essential for fisheries stock assessment and management. In this paper, coupled fishery and remote sensing methods were applied to propose a satellite-based fishery resource monitoring and assessment system (SFRMAS) that supported chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus), Pacific saury (Cololabis saira) and neon flying squid (Ommastrephes bartramii) fishing activities in the northwest Pacific. A multispecies fishing vessel database was generated in the SFRMAS using visible infrared imaging radiometer suite day/night band (VIIRS/DNB) images, automatic identification system (AIS) data and multimarine remote sensing resources. The results showed that the VIIRS/DNB vessel detection (VVD) and AIS vessel detection approaches improved the extraction accuracy of multispecies fishing vessels. A high productivity area with a higher chlorophyll a concentration had the most concentrated distribution of mackerel vessels. The widest longitudinal migrations of the neon flying squid and the latitudinal ranges of Pacific saury were highly related to sea surface temperature (SST), which was well captured by the movement of the fishing vessels. In the SFRMAS, the accuracy of detected multispecies fishing days and fishing catches was mostly between 60 and 90%, which can provide data support for fisheries stock assessment and management.

Mental fatigue (MF) is a psycho-biological state that impairs sports-related performances. Recently, it has been proved that MF can affect basketball performance. However, a systematic overview detailing the influences of MF on basketball performance is still lacking. This study aims to investigate the effects of MF on the physical, technical, tactical, and cognitive performance of basketball. We used the databases of PubMed, Web of Science, SPORTDiscus, Scopes, and CKNI for articles published up to 31 May 2021. The articles included in this study were projected to test whether MF influences basketball athlete performance. Only experimental design studies were selected, and the control condition was without MF. Finally, seven articles fit the inclusion criteria. The results imply that MF impairs the technical aspects of basketball (free throws, three-point shots, and total turnover) and the players' cognitive [take-the-first (TTF) heuristics and decision-making] performance, which results in athletes not using their techniques skillfully and being unable to make practical decisions during critical points in the game. In addition to that, the influences of MF on physical and tactical performance have not been studied. Further studies should look into comprehensive research on the influences of MF on basketball performance, especially on a player's physical and tactical performance.Systematic Review Registration: [https://inplasy.com/] [INPLASY2021100017].

Summary: The Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome protein and SCAR homolog (WASH), an actin nucleation-promoting factor, is present in the nucleus where it regulates gene transcription and maintains nuclear organization. Here, we show that WASH interacts with core non-homologous end-joining (NHEJ) factors including Ku70/Ku80 and DNA-PKcs, and Ku70/Ku80 is involved in the recruitment of WASH to the sites of DNA double-stranded break (DSB). WASH depletion leads to increased cell sensitivity and impaired DNA repair capacity in response to etoposide-induced DSBs and reduces NHEJ efficiency. Mechanistically, we show that loss of WASH inhibits the phosphorylation of DNA-PKcs, H2AX, and KAP1 after DSB induction and reduces chromatin relaxation and the recruitment of several downstream NHEJ factors to DSBs. Moreover, WASH role in DSB repair depends on its conserved C-terminal VCA domain and Arp2/3 activation. Our findings reveal a function and mechanistic insight for WASH in DNA DSB repair by the NHEJ pathway.

In this study, an urban fringe green space classification system was established to explore the spatiotemporal variation of green space landscape and ecosystem service value (ESV) based on multi-source land-use data of Ganjingzi district from 2000 to 2018. (1) Results show that the total green space area declined from 359.57 to 213.46 km2 over the study period. Green space large plaque index (LPI) and class area both gradually declined, whereas the number of plaques (NP) and plaque density (PD) gradually increased, indicating green space landscape fragmentation. (2) Additionally, the value of green space ecosystem services reduced from 397.42 to 124.93 million yuan. The dynamic degree of ESV change in green space increased or decreased moderately, always being < 0 and showing a decreasing trend of ESV. From a spatial variation perspective, dynamic degrees of ESV variation in the western and northern regions with relatively intensive green space were higher than those in the east. Regarding ESV of various green space types, forest land had the highest functional values of ecological regulation and support, whereas arable land provided the highest functional values of production supply. (3) The ecological service function value of green space system is negatively correlated with PD, NP, edge density, landscape shape index, and Shannon's diversity index, and positively correlated with aggregation index, contagion metrics, and LPI. The correlation coefficient between the climate regulation function of forest and the change of number of plaques is -0.874. The correlation coefficient of the recreation and culture of the wetland to the plaque density change is no less than -0.214.

We developed a human intracellular antibody based on the M1 protein from avian influenza virus H5N1 (A/meerkat/Shanghai/SH-1/2012) and then characterized the properties of this antibody. The M1 protein sequence was amplified by RT-PCR using the cDNA of the H5N1 virus as a template, expressed in bacterial expression system BL21 (DE3) and purified. A human strain, high affinity, and single chain antibody (HuScFv) against M1 protein was obtained by phage antibody library screening using M1 as an antigen. A recombinant TAT-HuScFv protein was expressed by fusion with the TAT protein transduction domain (PTD) gene of HIV to prepare a human intracellular antibody against avian influenza virus. Further analysis demonstrated that TAT-HuScFv could inhibit the hemagglutination activity of the 300 TCID50 H1N1 virus, thus providing preliminary validation of the universality of the antibody. After two rounds of M1 protein decomposition, the TAT-HuScFv antigen binding site was identified as Alanine (A) at position 239. Collectively, our data describe a recombinant antibody with high binding activity against the conserved sequences of avian influenza viruses. This intracellular recombinant antibody blocked the M1 protein that infected intracellular viruses, thus inhibiting the replication and reproduction of H5N1 viruses.

Non-uniformity commonly exists in the infrared focal plane, which behaves as the fixed-pattern noise (FPN) and seriously affects the image quality of long-wave infrared (LWIR) detection systems. The two-point correction (TPC) method is commonly used to reduce image FPN in engineering. However, when a wide-spectrum LWIR detection system calibrated with a black body is used to detect weak and small targets in the sky, FPN still appears in the image, affecting its uniformity. The effects of atmospheric transmittance characteristics of long-range paths on the non-uniformity of wide-spectrum long-wave infrared systems have not been studied. This paper proposes a modified TPC model based on spectral subdivision that introduces atmospheric transmittance. Additionally, the effects of atmospheric transmittance characteristics on the long-wave infrared non-uniform correction coefficient are analyzed. The experimental results for a black body scene and sky scene using a weak and small target detection system with a long-wave Sofradir FPA demonstrate that the wide-spectrum LWIR detection system fully considers atmospheric transmittance when performing calibration based on the TPC method, which can reduce the non-uniformity of the image.

In 2017 the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) observed the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way, Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*), at a frequency of 228.1 GHz ( λ = 1.3 mm). The fundamental physics tests that even a single pulsar orbiting Sgr A* would enable motivate searching for pulsars in EHT data sets. The high observing frequency means that pulsars—which typically exhibit steep emission spectra—are expected to be very faint. However, it also negates pulse scattering, an effect that could hinder pulsar detections in the Galactic center. Additionally, magnetars or a secondary inverse Compton emission could be stronger at millimeter wavelengths than at lower frequencies. We present a search for pulsars close to Sgr A* using the data from the three most sensitive stations in the EHT 2017 campaign: the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array, the Large Millimeter Telescope, and the IRAM 30 m Telescope. We apply three detection methods based on Fourier-domain analysis, the fast folding algorithm, and single-pulse searches targeting both pulsars and burst-like transient emission. We use the simultaneity of the observations to confirm potential candidates. No new pulsars or significant bursts were found. Being the first pulsar search ever carried out at such high radio frequencies, we detail our analysis methods and give a detailed estimation of the sensitivity of the search. We conclude that the EHT 2017 observations are only sensitive to a small fraction (≲2.2%) of the pulsars that may exist close to Sgr A*, motivating further searches for fainter pulsars in the region.
