An 850 nm single transverse mode vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) pigtailed to a standard 1300 nm-optimised 9/125 pm singlemode fibre (SMF) is presented as a low-cost light source for radio over fibre transmission. The spurious-free dynamic range of a link using such a VCSEL pigtail is found to be above 90 dBHz&frag23; up to 2 km of standard 9/125 μm SMF, thus fulfilling the requirements of mobile communication systems. Abstract Background Current guidelines for a check-up recommend routine screening not triggered by specific symptoms for some known risk factors and diseases in the general population. Patients' perceptions and expectations regarding a check-up exam may differ from these principles. However, quantitative and qualitative data about the discrepancy between patient- and provider expectations for this type of clinic consultation is lacking. Methods For a year, we prospectively enrolled 66 patients who explicitly requested a "check-up" at our medical outpatient division. All patients actively denied upon prompting having any symptoms or specific health concerns at the time they made their appointment. All consultations were videotaped and analysed for information about spontaneously mentioned symptoms and reasons for the clinic consultation ("open agendas") and for cues to hidden patient agendas using the Roter interaction analysis system (RIAS). Results All patients initially declared to be asymptomatic but this was ultimately the case in only 7 out of 66 patients. The remaining 59 patients spontaneously mentioned a mean of 4.2 ± 3.3 symptoms during their first consultation. In 23 patients a total of 31 hidden agendas were revealed. The primary categories for hidden agendas were health concerns, psychosocial concerns and the patient's concept of disease. Conclusions The majority of patients requesting a general check-up tend to be motivated by specific symptoms and health concerns and are not "asymptomatic" patients who primarily come for preventive issues. Furthermore, physicians must be alert for possible hidden agendas, as one in three patients have one or more hidden reasons for requesting a check-up.

Abstract Background Cardiac arrests are handled by teams rather than by individual health-care workers. Recent investigations demonstrate that adherence to CPR guidelines can be less than optimal, that deviations from treatment algorithms are associated with lower survival rates, and that deficits in performance are associated with shortcomings in the process of team-building. The aim of this study was to explore and quantify the effects of ad-hoc team-building on the adherence to the algorithms of CPR among two types of physicians that play an important role as first responders during CPR: general practitioners and hospital physicians. Methods To unmask team-building this prospective randomised study compared the performance of preformed teams, i.e. teams that had undergone their process of team-building prior to the onset of a cardiac arrest, with that of teams that had to form ad-hoc during the cardiac arrest. 50 teams consisting of three general practitioners each and 50 teams consisting of three hospital physicians each, were randomised to two different versions of a simulated witnessed cardiac arrest: the arrest occurred either in the presence of only one physician while the remaining two physicians were summoned to help ("ad-hoc"), or it occurred in the presence of all three physicians ("preformed"). All scenarios were videotaped and performance was analysed post-hoc by two independent observers. Results Compared to preformed teams, ad-hoc forming teams had less hands-on time during the first 180 seconds of the arrest (93 ± 37 vs. 124 ± 33 sec, P < 0.0001), delayed their first defibrillation (67 ± 42 vs. 107 ± 46 sec, P < 0.0001), and made less leadership statements (15 ± 5 vs. 21 ± 6, P < 0.0001). Conclusion Hands-on time and time to defibrillation, two performance markers of CPR with a proven relevance for medical outcome, are negatively affected by shortcomings in the process of ad-hoc team-building and particularly deficits in leadership. Team-building has thus to be regarded as an additional task imposed on teams forming ad-hoc during CPR. All physicians should be aware that early structuring of the own team is a prerequisite for timely and effective execution of CPR.

OBJECTIVES: An increasing number of consultations are delivered in group practices, where a stable 1:1 relationship between patient and physician cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, correct documentation of the content of a consultation is crucial to hand over information from one health care professional to the next. METHODS: We randomly selected 20 interviews from a series of 56 videotaped consultations with patients requesting a general check-up exam in the outpatient department of Internal Medicine at the University Hospital Basel. All patients actively denied having any symptoms or specific health concerns at the time they made their appointment. Videotapes were analysed with the Roter Interaction Analysis System (RIAS). Corresponding physician notes were analysed with a category check-list that contained the information related items from RIAS. RESULTS: Interviews contained a total of 9.002 utterances and lasted between 15 and 53min (mean duration: 37min). Patient-centred communication (Waiting, Echoing, Mirroring, Summarising) in the videos significantly correlated with the amount of information presented by patients: medical information (r=.57; p=.009), therapeutic information (r=.50; p=.03), psychosocial information (r=.41; p=.07), life style information (r=.52; p=.02), and with the sum of patient information (r=.64; p=.003). Even though there was a significant correlation between the amount of information from the video and information in physician's notes in some categories (patient gives medical information; Pearson's r=.45; p=.05, patient gives psychosocial information; Pearson's r=.49; p=.03), an inspection of the regression lines shows that a large extent of patient information is omitted from the charts. Physicians never discussed with patients whether information should be documented in the charts or omitted. CONCLUSIONS: The use of typical patient-centred techniques increases information gathered from patients. Physicians document only a small percentage of patient information in the charts, their 'condensing heuristic' is not shared with patients. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: Patient involvement should be advocated not only to medical decision making but also to the way physicians document the content of a consultation. It is a joint responsibility of patient and health care professional to decide, which information should be kept and thus be communicated to another health care professional in future consultations. Aim: This study aims to investigate the prevalence, intensity, and location of pain in children and adolescents with cerebral palsy (CP) and analyze pain-related symptoms and participation restrictions., Methods: Children and adolescents aged 2 to 16 years diagnosed with CP were invited to participate in a pain survey. The questionnaire was based on the German Pain Questionnaire for Children, Adolescents and Parents (DSF-KJ). It was administered to children (2-11 years) by their caregivers, while adolescents (12-16 years) were asked to complete the questionnaire themselves or with the help of their caregivers., Results: Fifty-seven of 133 children and adolescents with CP (43%) reported having pain in the past 12 months, of whom 17 (30%) reported chronic pain. Patients with Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) IV-V reported more frequent pain ( p  = 0.003) and higher pain intensity ( p  = 0.011). Lower extremity pain was the most common. Twenty-three percent of participants with pain did not receive any treatment. Pain often restricted participation, specifically by reducing sports activity in patients with GMFCS I-III, focusing attention on patients with GMFCS IV-V, and activities with the family in both GMFCS level categories., Interpretation: Pain is common in children and adolescents with CP and frequently restricts their participation. Purpose: To investigate the frequency, content, and clinical translation of advance directives in intensive care units (ICUs)., Material and Methods: Retrospective cohort study in a Swiss tertiary ICU, including patients with advance directives treated in ICUs ≥48 h. The primary endpoint was the violation of directives. Key secondary endpoints were the directives' prevalence and their translation into clinical practice., Results: Of 5'851 patients treated ≥48 h in ICUs, 2.7 % had documented directives. Despite 92 % using templates, subjective or contradictory wording was found in 19 % and 12 %. Nine percent of directives were violated. Patients with directive violations had worse in-hospital outcomes (p = 0.012). At admission, 64 % of patients experiencing violations could not communicate, and directives were missing/unrecognized in 30 %. Mostly, directives were not followed regarding life-prolonging measures (6 %), ICU admission (5 %), and mechanical ventilation (3 %). Kaplan Meier statistics revealed a lower survival rate with directives recognized at admission (p = 0.04) and when treatment was withheld (p < 0.001)., Conclusions: Advance directives are available in a minority of ICU patients and often contain subjective/contradictory wording. Physicians respected directives in 90 % of patients, with treatment adapted following their wishes. Background: Workplace violence (WPV) presents challenges in intensive care units (ICUs) calling for reliable prediction of violence. This narrative review aimed to identify and evaluate risk assessment tools from acute care settings which are or might be used to predict violent behavior in adult ICU patients focusing on their performance and clinical utility., Methods: A screening of PubMed, Scopus and Google Scholar was conducted to identify risk scores used in the acute care setting such as emergency departments, hospitals and ICUs. Risk factors, predictive validity of scores and their relevance to the ICU setting were evaluated., Results: 24 studies were included. Two studies reported the use in general ICU populations, while eight studies were conducted in psychiatric ICUs and 14 studies implemented the use of risk tools in emergency departments or general wards. Ten risk scores were identified using 30 different variables. Those could be categorized into patient demographics, behavior, history of violence, mental status and other items such as sleep disturbances. The Broset Violence Checklist (BVC) was the most commonly used risk score. It showed moderate predictive accuracy in psychiatric settings including psychiatric ICUs, but limited validation for general ICUs. The overall evidence level was low with serious risk of bias. Other tools demonstrated varying sensitivity and specificity but lacked validation in ICUs., Implications for Clinical Practice: ICU nurses and physicians are often subjected to violence. There is little evidence on scores to predict patients' behavior. Most assessments come from outside the ICU, but may be promising in critical care., Conclusion: This review underscores the need for the development of violence risk assessment tools tailored to the ICU, as the challenges with violent ICU patients differ from other populations. Background: Conflicting data exist regarding sex-specific outcomes after cardiac arrest. This study investigates sex disparities in the provision of critical care and outcomes of in-hospital (IHCA) and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients., Methods: Analysis of adult cardiac arrest patients admitted to certified Swiss intensive care units (ICUs) (01/2008-12/2022) using the nationwide prospective ICU registry. The primary outcome was ICU mortality, with secondary outcomes including ICU admission probability and advanced treatment provision., Results: Among 41,733 individuals (34.9% women), 21,692 patients (30.6% women) were admitted to ICUs (16,571 OHCA patients/5121 IHCA patients). Women were less likely to be admitted to the ICU than men (incidence rate ratio 0.82 [95% CI 0.80-0.85] and had a higher ICU mortality (41.8% vs 36.2%; p < 0.001). Mortality differences were more pronounced in OHCA patients (unadjusted HR: 1.35 [95% CI 1.28-1.43]; adjusted HR: 1.19 [95% CI 1.12-1.25]). In IHCA patients, mortality differences were less pronounced (unadjusted HR: 1.14 [95% CI 1.04-1.25]) and vanished after adjustment for confounders: adjusted HR: 1.03 [95% CI 0.94-1.13]). Women after cardiac arrest were older, more severely ill, and received fewer interventions before (44.7% vs 54.0%; p < 0.001) and during ICU stay. A subgroup analysis of 11,202 patients revealed that treatment limitations were more frequent in women (46.7% vs 38.7%; p < 0.001). However, these limitations were associated with an increased risk of death in both sexes., Conclusions: This study highlights sex disparities in short-term mortality and ICU resource allocation among cardiac arrest patients, with women potentially facing disadvantages, in particular after OHCA. The limitations of ICU registry data, particularly the lack of detailed cardiac arrest-specific and comorbidity information, restrict definitive conclusions. The ARCR&#95;Pred study was initiated to document and predict the safety and effectiveness of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR) in a representative Swiss patient cohort. In the present manuscript, we aimed to describe the overall and baseline characteristics of the study, report on functional outcome data and explore case-mix adjustment and differences between public and private hospitals. Between June 2020 and November 2021, primary ARCR patients were prospectively enrolled in a multicenter cohort across 18 Swiss and one German orthopedic center. Baseline characteristics, including sociodemographic and diagnostic variables, were reported. Clinical scores and patient-reported outcome measures were assessed up to 24-month follow-up. After screening 2350 individuals, 973 patients with ARCR were included. Follow-up rates reached 99%, 95%, 89% and 88% at 6 weeks, 6, 12, and 24 months, respectively. While the proportion of massive tears was higher in the study population (44% vs. 20%, Std. Diff. = 0.56), there were no other major differences in key characteristics between enrolled and non-enrolled patients or in patients lost to follow-up. Functional scores improved over time, with positive changes rates ranging from 83% to 92% at 6-month, reaching 91% to 97% at 12- and 24-month follow-up. In linear mixed models, used to estimate the associations between baseline factors, hospital type and standardized 0-100 scores, marginal effects for time ranged from 20 to 30, 28 to 39 and 34 to 41 points at the 6-, 12- and 24-month follow-up, respectively. Except at the 12-month follow-up, where marginal effects for the interaction terms ranged from -5 to -4 points in the standardized scores, there were no consistent outcome differences between public and private hospitals. Increasing number of years of education was consistently associated with better scores, greater feelings of depression and anxiety, smoking and ASA group III-IV were consistently associated with worse scores. Tear severity showed a consistent negative association solely for the Constant-Score. The ARCR&#95;Pred study shows high potential for generalizability to the population of patients undergoing an ARCR in Switzerland. Aims of the Study: Interprofessional ward rounds are a cornerstone of patient-centred care for medical inpatients and offer opportunities to discuss and coordinate patient treatment and further management. We aimed to identify factors associated with lower satisfaction and efficiency of interprofessional ward rounds, as reported by physicians and nurses., Methods: An anonymous Swiss nationwide online survey of physicians and nurses was conducted in 28 Swiss internal medicine inpatient departments between 9 August and 19 October 2023. Analyses were conducted from November to December 2023. The primary outcome was physicians' and nurses' perceived lower satisfaction with ward rounds, which was assessed using visual analogue scales ranging from 0 to 10, with lower satisfaction defined as scores below the median. The main secondary outcome was perceived lower efficiency using a similar definition. Qualitative analysis was performed through inductive thematic analysis., Results: The survey had a response rate of 21.6% (547/2530). Of the 547 physicians and nurses included in the final analysis, the median satisfaction was 7 points (interquartile range [IQR] 6-8). A total of 61% of physicians (156/254) and 76% of nurses (224/293) reported lower satisfaction. Lower satisfaction was reported significantly more frequently by nurses (adjusted odds ratio [OR] 2.33, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.58-3.43; p ≤0.001) and female team members (adjusted OR 1.95, 95% CI 1.32-2.9; p <0.01). The median perceived efficiency of ward rounds was 7 points (IQR 5-8), and the nursing profession was associated with lower perceived efficiency (adjusted OR 1.95, 95% CI 1.3-2.93; p <0.01). Adherence to in-house guidelines for ward rounds was associated with satisfaction (adjusted OR for lower satisfaction 0.25, 95% CI 0.16-0.39; p <0.001) and perceived efficiency (adjusted OR for lower efficiency 0.27, 95% CI 0.17-0.43; p <0.001). Both physicians and nurses preferred to perform ward rounds as part of an interprofessional team. The qualitative analysis of the data revealed a preference for structured interprofessional ward rounds and the active involvement of nurses., Conclusions: This survey revealed an overall high preference for interprofessional ward rounds. In addition, we identified several factors that were associated with lower satisfaction and efficiency. Structured in-house protocols for ward rounds may increase the satisfaction and efficiency of interprofessional collaboration during ward rounds.

Objective: Large language models (LLMs) have recently gained attention for clinical decision-making and diagnosis. This study evaluates the performance of the recently updated LLM (ChatGPT-4o) in predicting clinical outcomes in patients with status epilepticus and compares its prognostic performance to the Status Epilepticus Severity Score (STESS)., Methods: This retrospective single-center cohort study was performed at the University Hospital Basel (tertiary academic medical center) from January 2005 to December 2022. It included consecutive adult patients (≥18 years of age) with a diagnosis of status epilepticus. The primary outcome was survival at hospital discharge, and the secondary outcome was return to premorbid neurological function at hospital discharge. The performance characteristics of ChatGPT4-o (sensitivity, specificity, Youden Index) were evaluated and compared to those of the STESS., Results: Of 760 patients, 689 patients (90.7%) survived to discharge, and 317 survivors (41.7%) regained their premorbid neurological function at discharge. ChatGPT-4o predicted survival in 567 of 760 patients (74.6%), of which 45 died. ChatGPT-4o predicted death in 193 of 760 patients (25.4%), of which 167 survived, resulting in a sensitivity of 75.8% and a specificity of 36.6% (Youden Index 0.12, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0-.28) for predicting survival. ChatGPT-4o predicted return to premorbid neurologic function in 249 of 760 patients (32.8%), of which 112 did not return to their premorbid neurological function. ChatGPT-4o predicted no return to premorbid function in 511 of 760 patients (67.2%), of which 180 returned to their premorbid function, resulting in a sensitivity of 43.2% and a specificity of 74.7% (Youden Index .12, 95% CI .08-.28) for predicting return to premorbid neurological function. There was no difference in the prognostic performance of ChatGPT-4o and the STESS. A second round of prompting did not increase the predictive performance of ChatGPT-4o., Significance: ChatGPT-4o unreliably predicts outcomes in patients with status epilepticus. Background: Assessing health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is a widely employed method in orthopedics to evaluate patient well-being and measure the effectiveness of surgical interventions. Understanding the relationship between specific baseline factors and preoperative HRQoL can help clinicians identify patients at risk for low quality of life and thus, develop preventive strategies that adequately address individual patient needs. The objective was to assess associations between baseline factors and preoperative HRQoL in patients undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR)., Methods: This study is part of a multicenter prospective Swiss cohort study that included patients undergoing ARCR between June 2020 and November 2021. Data were derived from baseline and surgery forms. HRQoL was assessed using the European Quality of Life 5-Dimension 5-Level (EQ-5D-5L) questionnaire to calculate EQ-5D index and EQ VAS scores. Univariable and multivariable linear regression models examined associations between the 21 factors and preoperative HRQoL. Final models were determined using stepwise backward regression., Results: A total of 973 included patients (mean age [SD], 57.3 [9.4] years; 611 men [63%]) had a mean [SD] EQ-5D index and EQ VAS of 0.70 [0.23] and 68.7 [19.8], respectively. Being male (regression coefficient (β), 0.05; 95% CI [0.02-0.08]), having a higher age (β, 0.02; 95% CI [0.01-0.03]) and higher education levels (e.g., university, college: β, 0.11; 95% CI [0.06-0.16]) were associated with a higher EQ-5D index. Increased body mass index (β, -0.02; 95% CI [-0.04 to -0.01]) and worse sleep quality (β, -0.03; 95% CI [-0.04 to -0.03]) were associated with a lower EQ-5D index. Factors negatively associated with overall EQ VAS health were depression (e.g., moderate: β, -12.70; 95% CI [-16.18 to -9.21]), presence of at least one comorbidity (β, -3.71; 95% CI [-5.91 to -1.52]), and pain (β, -1.81; 95% CI [-2.36 to -1.26])., Conclusion: Our results suggest that preoperative HRQoL is highly associated with sociodemographic and patient-related factors. Background: There is limited information about psychological distress in adults who underwent kidney replacement therapy (KRT) during childhood. This study aimed to describe psychological distress in adults after KRT during childhood in comparison to the Swiss general population and to evaluate associations with sociodemographic and clinical characteristics., Methods: We sent a questionnaire to 143 people from the Swiss Pediatric Renal Registry (SPRR), who were alive, over 18 years old, started KRT before the age of 18 years, and were German speakers. We measured psychological distress using the Brief Symptom Inventory 18 (BSI-18) and evaluated the Global Severity Index 18 (GSI-18), reflecting the overall level of distress, and the three subscales: depression, somatization, and anxiety. We compared levels of psychological distress to normal data from the Swiss general population and used regression models to identify associations with sociodemographic and clinical characteristics., Results: Eighty persons with a mean age of 39 years (SD 10.1) responded to the questionnaire (response rate 56%). Overall, the GSI-18 and all subscales of the BSI-18 were similar. Unemployed participants (25%) reported higher levels of somatization and were more likely to experience psychological distress. Participants using psychotropic drugs (14%) reported higher levels of overall psychological distress (10%), depression (13%) and somatization (9%)., Conclusions: Adults after KRT during childhood showed good long-term psychological well-being. These results are encouraging and underline the favorable outcome of these patients. Background: Low maternal urinary iodine concentration (UIC) during pregnancy is associated with adverse offspring neurodevelopment. Thyroglobulin (Tg) has been suggested as a more sensitive biomarker than UIC of long-term iodine status, but associations of Tg with neurodevelopment and the possible mediating role of thyroid function remain unknown., Aim: To study whether maternal Tg is associated with i) maternal and newborn thyroid function and ii) offspring IQ and brain morphology., Methods: Participants were selected from two population-based prospective cohorts: Generation R (the Netherlands, iodine-sufficient) and INfancia y Medio Ambiente (Spain, mildly iodine-deficient) with maternal Tg and thyroid function data in the first half of pregnancy or in cord blood, early childhood IQ (age 4.5 and 6 years), late childhood IQ (age 9 and 13), or brain morphology at 10 years. Associations of Tg with TSH, FT4, IQ and brain morphology were studied with multivariable linear regression., Results: i) Tg was associated with lower TSH (-0.12[-0.16; -0.08]) and higher FT4 (0.08[0.05;0.12]) in pregnancy (N=4,367), but not with cord blood TSH or FT4 (N=2,008). ii) Tg was associated with lower IQ in early childhood (β[95% CI]:-0.06 [-0.10; -0.01], N=2,919), but not with IQ (N=2,503) or brain morphology (N=1,180) in later childhood. None of the associations of Tg with the studied outcomes differed by the iodine-to-creatinine ratio (i.e. effect modification) or changed when adjusted for thyroid function., Conclusions: Higher Tg is associated with lower IQ in early childhood and higher thyroid function during pregnancy, but not with IQ or brain morphology in later childhood. Study Aims: During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was increasing pressure to be vaccinated to prevent further spread of the virus and improve outcomes. At the same time, part of the population expressed reluctance to vaccination, for various reasons. Only a few studies have compared the perceptions of vaccinated and non-vaccinated patients being treated in hospitals for COVID-19. Our aim was to investigate the association between vaccination status and perceived healthcare-associated discrimination in patients with COVID-19 receiving hospital treatment., Methods: Adult patients presenting to the emergency department or hospitalised for inpatient care due to or with COVID-19 from 1 June to 31 December 2021 in two Swiss hospitals were eligible. The primary endpoint was patients' perceived healthcare-associated discrimination, measured with the Discrimination in Medical Settings (DMS) scale. Secondary endpoints included different aspects of perceived quality of care and symptoms of psychological distress measured with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale., Results: Non-vaccinated patients (n = 113) had significantly higher DMS scores compared to vaccinated patients (n = 80) (mean: 9.54 points [SD: 4.84] vs 7.79 points [SD: 1.85]; adjusted difference: 1.18 [95% CI: 0.04-2.33 points]) and 21 of 80 vaccinated patients felt discriminated against vs 54 of 113 non-vaccinated patients (adjusted OR: 2.09 [95% CI: 1.10-3.99 ]). Non-vaccinated patients reported lower scores regarding respectful treatment by the nursing team (mean: 8.39 points [SD: 2.39] vs 9.30 points [SD: 1.09]; adjusted difference: -0.6 [95% CI: -1.18 - -0.02 points])., Conclusion: We found an association between vaccination status and perceived healthcare-associated discrimination. Healthcare workers should act in a professional manner regardless of a patient's vaccination status; in doing so, they might prevent the creation of negative perceptions in patients.

Patients discharged from intensive care are at risk for post-intensive care syndrome (PICS), which consists of physical, psychological, and/or neurological impairments. This study aimed to analyze PICS at 24 months follow-up, to identify potential risk factors for PICS, and to assess health-related quality of life in a long-term cohort of adult cardiac arrest survivors. This prospective cohort study included adult cardiac arrest survivors admitted to the intensive care unit of a Swiss tertiary academic medical center. The primary endpoint was the prevalence of PICS at 24 months follow-up, defined as impairments in physical (measured through the European Quality of Life 5-Dimensions-3-Levels instrument [EQ-5D-3L]), neurological (defined as Cerebral Performance Category Score > 2 or Modified Rankin Score > 3), and psychological (based on the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and the Impact of Event Scale-Revised) domains. Among 107 cardiac arrest survivors that completed the 2-year follow-up, 46 patients (43.0%) had symptoms of PICS, with 41 patients (38.7%) experiencing symptoms in the physical domain, 16 patients (15.4%) in the psychological domain, and 3 patients (2.8%) in the neurological domain. Key predictors for PICS in multivariate analyses were female sex (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 3.17, 95% CI 1.08 to 9.3), duration of no-flow interval during cardiac arrest (minutes) (aOR 1.17, 95% CI 1.02 to 1.33), post-discharge job-loss (aOR 31.25, 95% CI 3.63 to 268.83), need for ongoing psychological support (aOR 3.64, 95% CI 1.29 to 10.29) or psychopharmacologic treatment (aOR 9.49, 95% CI 1.9 to 47.3), and EQ-visual analogue scale (points) (aOR 0.88, 95% CI 0.84 to 0.93). More than one-third of cardiac arrest survivors experience symptoms of PICS 2 years after resuscitation, with the highest impairment observed in the physical and psychological domains. However, long-term survivors of cardiac arrest report intact health-related quality of life when compared to the general population. Future research should focus on appropriate prevention, screening, and treatment strategies for PICS in cardiac arrest patients., (© 2024. The Author(s).)
