Abstract

Introduction: Temporal lobe tumors commonly present with seizures, headache, auditory and visual hallucination, memory disturbance. Isolated cranial neuropathies are rare in patients with tumors affecting temporal lobe. Methods and material: The authors report a retrospective review of two cases of glioblastoma multiforme of the temporal lobe presenting with isolated oculomotor nerve palsy as their clinical feature. Results: Oculomotor nerve palsy in the temporal lobe tumor occurs primarily as result of herniation of uncus through the tentorium cerebellli. The tumors located anteromedially in the temporal lobe are usually asymptomatic and sudden medial expansion of these tumors due to intratumoral hemorrhage causes direct compression of the adjacent third nerve, which lies in the suprolateral border of the cavernous sinus, thereby producing painful oculomotor nerve palsy as the isolated clinical feature of these temporal lobe lesions. Conclusions: The authors conclude that the differential diagnosis of painful isolated oculomotor nerve palsy should also include tumor of temporal lobe located anteromedially with intratumoral hemorrhage, in addition to the rupture of an aneurysm of posterior communicating artery.

Abstract

Forme fruste choledochal cyst (FFCC) is a rare disease which needs high index of suspicion for diagnosis. We are presenting 3 cases of FFCC managed in our department in last 2 year. In one case FFCC was suspected on clinical evaluation and diagnosis was confirmed by magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography whereas in rest, diagnosis was made on clinical suspicion and confirmed by MRCP and peroperative cholangiogram. We are presenting series of three cases of FFCC, because it is a rare disease and need high index of suspicion for its diagnosis and once diagnosed it can be cured.

Abstract

Brainstem gliomas are relatively rare in adults (<2% of all gliomas). Exophytic gliomas are focal brainstem lesions, which project into the 4th ventricle or cerebellopontine angles. These exophytic lesions are usually of low-grade histology (pilocytic astrocytoma or ganglioglioma) and have a relatively better outcome compared with brainstem gliomas as a whole. Glioblastoma is the commonest primary glial cell neoplasm and mostly occurs in the supratentorial compartment. It is rather uncommon in the brainstem and seldom has been described as having an exophytic growth pattern. Here we describe an exophytic brainstem glioblastoma arising from the medulla oblongata in a 55-year-old lady who presented with a 4th ventricular mass, and present a brief review of the literature. Till now, six cases of glioblastoma arising from the medulla oblongata have been reported. So, ours is the seventh such report. To the best of our knowledge, it also happens to be the sixth reported case of dorsally exophytic brainstem glioblastoma till date. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

82. Tracheobronchopathia Osteochondroplastica - A rare or an overlooked entity?

Abstract

Tracheobronchopathia osteochondroplastica is an idiopathic non-malignant disease of large airways featured by submucosal cartilaginous to osseous nodules overlying the cartilaginous rings, which may be focal or diffuse. Clinical presentation varies from asymptomatic to symptoms like breathlessness, recurrent chest infections, cough and hemoptysis. Due to the lack of awareness of this disease, it remains an under recognized entity. We are describing the computed tomography and bronchoscopic findings of two recently diagnosed cases at our institute. The purpose of this report is to familiarize radiologists with imaging appearance of this condition, with the goal of increasing clinical suspicion of this uncommon condition.

Abstract

Tubulocystic renal cell carcinoma (TCRCC) is a recently described rare subtype of RCC. To best of our knowledge less than 70 cases have been reported till date. The concurrent papillary RCC (PRCC) and TCRCC has been documented in literature, but the co-occurrence of clear cell RCC (CCRCC) and TCRCC is very rare. We are describing a rare case of incidentally detected TCRCC occurring with CCRCC in a 45 years old male who presented with high grade fever with chills and rigors. Grossly, there were two distinct tumors in the total nephrectomy specimen. The larger tumor displayed the histopathological features of CCRCC and the smaller tumor revealed the features of TCRCC.treatment in the present case. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
