Windage power loss (WPL) is significant and cannot be neglected in a study on transmission efficiency and reducing the energy consumption of high-speed gear. The influence mechanism of the baffle on the reduction of WPL needs to be further studied. Based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technology, this paper puts stress on analyzing the influence of axial and radial baffles on viscous and pressure effects in WPL and the influence of baffles with groove structures on reducing WPL. The numerical calculation model of windage torque considering the baffle’s regulation is established, and the calculation results of WPL with different baffle configurations are obtained. The results indicate that the radial baffle mainly reduces pressure loss, while power loss caused by the viscous effect is mainly affected by the axial baffle. The baffle with the smallest clearance achieves the most significant suppression effect on windage. On this basis, adding groove structures to a smooth baffle can have a positive or negative impact on reducing WPL, and the baffles with circular grooves can further promote the reduction of WPL by 8.2%, compared with smooth baffles. This paper provides a reference for the optimal design of baffles in engineering applications.

Due to their large number of applications, the pesticides pose potential toxicity risks to the non-target organisms. In recent years, the studies on the toxic effects of pesticides on non-target organisms, based on their gut microbiome and metabolome, have been continuously reported. As a dense and diverse microbial community, the gut microbiota in the mammalian gut plays a key role in the maintenance of host metabolic homeostasis. The imbalance in the gut microbiota of host is closely associated with the disturbance in the host's metabolic profile. A comprehensive analysis of the changes in the gut microbiota and metabolic profile of host will help in understanding the internal mechanism of pesticide-induced toxic effects. This study reviewed the composition and function of the gut microbiota of host, as well as the analysis methods and applications of metabolomics. Importantly, the latest research on the toxic effects of the exposure of pesticide to host was reviewed on the basis of changes in their gut microbiota and metabolic profile.

BackgroundFew studies have focused on the influencing factors of dietary practices among ethnic minority groups in China, particularly from a social capital perspective.MethodsBetween May and September 2019, we conducted a cross-sectional survey among adults (n = 1,813) from three ethnic minority communities (A Chang, De Ang and Jing Po) in Yunnan Province, Southwest China. Dietary intakes during the past 12 months were measured with a 100-item Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), and two forms of social capital (bonding and bridging) were measured using the validated Personal Social Capital Scale 16 (PSCS-16). Principal component factor analysis was used to derive dietary patterns from 20 food groups. Multivariate linear regressions were used to examine the associations between social capital and dietary patterns.ResultsTwo distinct dietary patterns were identified: the traditional and the modern. The traditional pattern was characterized by high consumptions of tubers, poultry, rice, fruits, vegetables and low consumptions of oil and salt, whereas the modern pattern was highly correlated with egg, nut, beverage, snack and oil consumptions. After adjusted for potential confounders, the modern pattern was positively associated with bonding capital (β = 0.066; 95%CI: 0.058, 0.075) and negatively associated with bridging capital (β = -0.017; 95%CI: -0.024, -0.010).ConclusionIn conclusion, an unhealthy dietary pattern was identified among the ethnic minority groups in Southwest China. The influences of people's social connections on dietary behaviors should be considered in designing and implementing nutrition intervention programs for the population.

There have been controversies about the binding of cations to poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) chains in aqueous solutions. In the current study, single molecular evidence of charging PEO chains by cation binding in aqueous solutions is provided. From the adoption of the photon-counting histogram method, it is discovered that the local pH value at the vicinity of the PEO chain is higher than the bulk solution, showing that the PEO chain is positively charged. Such a situation exists with and without the presence of salt (NaCl) in the solution, presumably due to the binding of cations, such as hydronium and sodium ions. Single molecular electrophoresis experiments using fluorescence correlation spectroscopy demonstrate that the PEO chains are weakly charged with a charging extent of ~5%. In comparison to the salt-free condition, the addition of external salt (NaCl) at moderate concentrations further charges the chain. The charging causes the PEO chains to expand and a further increase in the salt concentration causes the chain to shrink, exhibiting a polyelectrolyte-like behavior, demonstrated by the hydrodynamic radii of a single PEO chain. The effect of ion identity is discovered with alkali cations, with the order of the charging capacity of Li+ < Na+ < Cs+ < K+.

A design method of low sliding ratio face gear drive is presented. The rack and gear meshing pair with a low sliding ratio is obtained by constructing the contact path. The face gear is then formed by this gear, and its tooth width characteristics are analyzed. Combined with the explicit solution of the meshing point of the tooth surface, a method to solve the sliding ratio of the proposed face gear pair is given, and the effects of relevant design parameters on the sliding ratio are analyzed. Moreover, the rationality of the tooth profile design is verified by 3D modeling and motion simulation. The proposed face gear pair has a lower sliding ratio, as well as larger tooth width, than those of traditional face gear drive (the pinion is involute spur gear) with the same basic parameters. The results of this study can provide points of reference for reducing friction and improving the mechanical efficiency of face gear drives.

Fast movement of objects and illumination changes may lead to a negative effect on camera images for object detection and tracking. Event cameras are neuromorphic vision sensors that capture the vitality of a scene, mitigating data redundancy and latency. This paper proposes a new solution to moving object detection and tracking using an event frame from bio-inspired event cameras. First, an object detection method is designed using a combined event frame and a standard frame in which the detection is performed according to probability and color, respectively. Then, a detection-based object tracking method is proposed using an event frame and an improved kernel correlation filter to reduce missed detection. Further, a distance measurement method is developed using event frame-based tracking and similar triangle theory to enhance the estimation of distance between the object and camera. Experiment results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods for moving object detection and tracking.

This paper proposes a unified attitude controller based on the modified linear active disturbance rejection control (LADRC) for a dual-tiltrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with cyclic pitch to achieve accurate attitude control despite its nonlinear and time-varying characteristics during flight mode transitions. The proposed control algorithm has higher robustness against model mismatch compared with the model-based control algorithms. The modified LADRC utilizes the state feedbacks from the onboard sensors like IMU and Pitot tube instead of the mathematical model of the plane. It has less dependency on the accurate dynamics model of the dual-tiltrotor UAV, which can hardly be built. In contrast to the original LADRC, an actuator model is integrated into the modified LADRC to compensate for the non-negligible slow rotor flapping dynamics and servo dynamics. This modification eliminates the oscillation of the original LADRC when applied on the plant with slow-response actuators, such as propeller and rotors of the helicopter. In this way, the stability and performance of the controller are improved. The controller replaces the gain-scheduling or the control logic switching by a unified controller structure, which simplifies the design approach of the controller for different flight modes. The effectiveness of the modified LADRC and the performance of the unified attitude controller are demonstrated in both simulation and flight tests using a dual-tiltrotor UAV. The attitude control error is less than ±4° during the conversion flight. The control rising time in different flight modes is all about 0.5 s, despite the variations in the airspeed and tilt angle. The flight results show that the controller guarantees high control accuracy and uniform control quality in different flight modes.

Objective This study aimed to systematically analyze the effectiveness and safety of the local application of vancomycin powder to prevent surgical site infection (SSI) after spinal surgeries and provide guidance for clinical practice. Methods Two researchers independently searched PubMed, Web of Science, Elsevier, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure using the MeSH terms “spinal surgery,” “vancomycin,” “local,” “topical,” “prophylactic,” “surgical site infection,” and “SSI” to identify studies published between January 2010 and January 2020 on the local application of vancomycin powder for preventing SSI after spinal surgeries. The outcome assessment indicators were analyzed using RevMan 5.3 software. Results Three randomized controlled trials, two prospective studies, and 26 retrospective studies were included in the current research. The results of the meta-analysis revealed significant differences between the vancomycin and control groups (non-vancomycin group) concerning the incidence of SSI (risk ratio = 0.39, 95% confidence interval = 0.28–0.55, Z = 5.46), indicating that local application of vancomycin powder can significantly reduce the incidence of SSI. Conclusion Local application of vancomycin powder is an effective and safe method to prevent SSI after spinal surgeries.

Primary brain tumors are a rare occurrence in comparison to other malignancies, the most predominant form being glioma. Commonly, exposure to ionizing radiations and inheritance of associated conditions such a neurofibromatosis and tuberous sclerosis are the most common causes of development of glioma. However, understanding of the molecular mechanisms that drive glioma development is limited. We explore the role of aberration of microRNA namely miR-494-3p through long noncoding RNA WT1-AS in the development of gliomas. In this study, we found that, levels of WT1-AS were significantly reduced in glioma tissues and cell lines. The miR-494-3p levels were negatively correlated with WT1-AS levels. The cellular proliferation and invasiveness decreased in WT1-AS transfected cell lines. Further the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC 50 ) of chemotherapeutic agent temozolomide was significantly reduced in the presence of WT1-AS . The cotransfection of WT1-AS and miR-494-3p reduced activation of phospho-AKT (p-AKT). Expression of miR-494-3p is modulated by binding to long noncoding RNA WT1-AS . Deregulation of WT1-AS leads to aberrant expression of miR-494-3p leading to hyperactivation of AKT. This malformation may result in altering protective immune responses in malignancies. Targeting of WT1-AS, miR-494-3p, and AKT may be novel therapeutic options in treatment of glioma.

To investigate the effects of dietary supplementation of WGBR on lipid metabolism, C57BL/6J mice were fed a normal chow diet, a high-fat diet based on corn starch, a high-fat diet based on white rice, and low or high dosage of black rice for 12 weeks. WGBR alleviated high-fat diet-induced increase in body weight and visceral weight; reduced serum TC, TG, and non-HDL-C/HDL-C levels; and increased fecal sterols and fat excretion. Furthermore, WGBR decreased hepatic TG and TC contents through the pathway of AMPK. This, in turn, decreased PPARγ, SREBP-1c, FASN, ACC, and HMGCOR-A and increased LXRα, PPARα, and CPT1α at the gene level. Further, it lowered PPARγ and elevated PPARα, p-ACC/ACC, and p-AMPKα/AMPKα at the protein level. Additionally, WGBR treatment decreased gene expression of NPC1L1, ACAT2, MTTP, which regulated lipid absorption in the intestine and preserved CYP7A1, ABCG5/8 that transported cholesterol from the liver and enterocytes to the intestinal lumen.

Background/Aims: Chemoresistance is largely responsible for relapses of bladder cancer during clinical therapy. However, the molecular mechanisms involved in the chemoresistance of bladder cancer are unclear. Growing evidence supports the theory that microRNAs (miRNAs) play an important role in chemotherapeutic drug resistance because they are downregulated in many malignancies that have been implicated in the regulation of diverse processes in cancer cells. More specifically, the extent and precise mechanism of the involvement of miR-34as in chemoresistance to epirubicin (EPI) in the treatment of bladder cancer remains unclear. Methods: In this study, real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to analyze the expression of miR-34a in bladder cancer cell line BIU87 and its EPI chemoresistant cell line BIU87/ADR. The miR-34a profiles in bladder cancer tissues were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas database. The effect of miR-34a on chemosensitivity was evaluated by cell viability assays, colony formation assays, and in vivo experimentation. Apoptosis and the cell cycle were examined by flow cytometry. A luciferase reporter assay was used to assess the target genes of miR-34a. Western blot and qPCR were used to analyze the expression of target proteins and downstream molecules. Results: The downregulation of miR-34a in bladder cancer serves as an independent predictor of reduced patient survival. The CCK-8 assay showed that miR-34a overexpression resulted in increased sensitivity to EPI, while miR-34a downregulation resulted in chemoresistance to EPI in vitro. Moreover, it was found that miR-34a increased the sensitivity of BIU87/ADR cells to chemotherapy in vivo. The luciferase reporter assay ascertained that TCF1 and LEF1 are direct target genes of miR-34a. It was found that miR-34a increased chemosensitivity in BIU87/ADR cells by inhibiting the TCF1/LEF1 axis. Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that miR-34a contributes to the chemosensitivity of BIU87/ADR by inhibiting the TCF1/LEF1 axis. Consequently, miR-34a is a determinant of BIU87 chemosensitivity and may therefore serve as a potential therapeutic target in bladder cancer treatment.

Chronic cystitis: proteins may open a channel to treatment A protein that controls the passage of ions through cell membranes is implicated in interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome (IC/PBS). This condition causes chronic pelvic pain and increased urinary frequency and urgency. Current treatment options are unsatisfactory. Researchers led by Longkun Li at the Third Military Medical University in Chongqing, China, and Mingjia Tan at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA, studied the role of this membrane channel protein, called Piezo1. Increased activity of Piezo1 was linked to bladder hyperactivity in rats with drug-induced cystitis. The research also identified a synergistic interaction between Piezo1 and a second membrane channel protein. A drug that inhibits Piezo1 activity reduced bladder hyperactivity in the rats. Drugs targeting these two proteins might help to treat the chronic cystitis of patients with IC/PBS.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most common kidney cancer diagnosed across the globe and has steadily increased in incidence in recent decades. Techniques for diagnosing or treating RCC are limited, and confined mostly to later stages of the disease. Almost all RCC pathological types are resistant to chemotherapeutics and radiation therapy. To this effect, new markers for diagnosis and target therapy are urgently needed. Advanced genome sequencing technologies have revealed long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) as a novel marker, transcribed throughout the human genome. The emergence of lncRNAs is an aberrant expression and is involved in the tumorigenesis of RCC. LncRNAs drive cancer phenotypes through their interaction with other cellular macromolecules including DNA, protein, and RNA. Recent research on lncRNA molecular mechanisms has revealed new markers to functionally annotate these cancers’ associated transcripts, making them targets for effective diagnosis and therapeutic intervention in the fight against cancer. In this review, we first highlight the common mechanisms that underlie aberrant lncRNA expression in RCC. We go on to discuss the potential translational application of lncRNA research in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of RCC.

This paper proposes an event-triggered model predictive control (MPC) scheme for the formation control of multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). A distributed MPC framework is designed in which each UAV only shares the information with its neighbors, and the obtained local finite-horizon optimal control problem (FHOCP) can be solved by a swarm intelligent optimization algorithm. An event-triggered mechanism is proposed to reduce the computational burden for the distributed MPC scheme, which takes into consideration the predictive state errors as well as the convergence of cost function. Furthermore, a safedistance-based strategy for no-fly zone avoidance is developed and integrated into the local cost function for each FHOCP. Numerical simulations show that the proposed event-triggered distributed MPC is more computationally efficient to achieve formation control of multiple UAVs in comparison with the traditional distributed MPC method.

Refined microstructures achieved by cyclic heat treatment significantly contribute to improving the wear resistance of steels. To acquire the refined microstructures of 65Mn low-alloy steel, first, the specimens were solid solution-treated; then, they were subjected to cyclic heat treatment at cyclic quenching temperatures of 790–870 °C and quenching times of 1–4 with a fixed holding time of 5 min. The mechanical properties of 65Mn low-alloy steel in terms of hardness, tensile strength, elongation and wear resistance were characterized. Afterwards, the effect of cyclic heat treatment on microstructure evolution and the relationships between grain refinement and mechanical properties’ improvement were discussed. The results show that the average grain size firstly decreased and then increased with the increase in the quenching temperature. Hardness increased with grain refinement when the temperature was lower than 830 °C. Once the temperature exceeded 830 °C, hardness increased with the temperature increase owing to the enrichment of carbon content in the martensite. With the increase in cyclic quenching times, hardness continuously increased with grain refinement strengthening. In addition, both tensile strength and elongation could be significantly improved through grain refinement. The relationships among wear loss, hardness and average grain size showed that wear resistance was affected by the synthesis reaction of grain refinement and hardness. Higher hardness and refined grain size contributed to improving the wear resistance of 65Mn low-alloy steel.

In this paper, we investigate the problem of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) autonomous tracking moving target with only an airborne camera sensor. We proposed a novel integrated controller framework for this problem based on multi-neural-network modules (MNNMs). In this framework, two neural networks are designed for target perception and guidance control, respectively. The deep learning method and reinforcement learning method are applied to train the integrated controller. The training result demonstrates that the integrated controller can be trained more quickly and efficiently than the end-to-end controller trained by the deep reinforcement learning method. The flight tests with the integrated controller are implemented in simulated and realistic environments, the results show that the integrated controller trained in simulation can easily be transferred to the realistic environment and achieve the UAV tracking randomly moving target, which has a faster motion velocity. The integrated controller based on the MNNMs structure has a better performance on an autonomous tracking target than the control mode that combines with a perception network and a proportional integral derivative controller.

To analyze the deformation characteristics and the change rule of flow stress of 2219 aluminum alloy at high temperatures and high strain rates,the dynamic as well as quasi-static tensile response of 2219 aluminum alloy were investigated by using split Hopkinson pressure test(SHPB) and universal test machine. The true stress-strain curves of 2219 aluminum alloy under different strain rates and temperatures were obtained. The results show that the temperature sensitivity of 2219 aluminum alloy is high and the flow stress decreases with the increase of temperature. When the strain rates are within the range of 1000-3000s-1, the change of flow stress is not obvious. The parameters fitted by the Johnson-Cook model can predict well the flow stress.

To achieve the perception-based autonomous control of UAVs, schemes with onboard sensing and computing are popular in state-of-the-art work, which often consist of several separated modules with respective complicated algorithms. Most methods depend on handcrafted designs and prior models with little capacity for adaptation and generalization. Inspired by the research on deep reinforcement learning, this paper proposes a new end-to-end autonomous control method to simplify the separate modules in the traditional control pipeline into a single neural network. An image-based reinforcement learning framework is established, depending on the design of the network architecture and the reward function. Training is performed with model-free algorithms developed according to the specific mission, and the control policy network can map the input image directly to the continuous actuator control command. A simulation environment for the scenario of UAV landing was built. In addition, the results under different typical cases, including both the small and large initial lateral or heading angle offsets, show that the proposed end-to-end method is feasible for perception-based autonomous control.

In this work, the frequency doubling effect of thermoacoustic speakers is studied, and a method is analyzed to suppress the frequency doubling effect. Three cases were analyzed by superimposing the DC bias on the AC excitation: (1) DC is less than AC; (2) DC is equal to AC; (3) DC is greater than AC. We found that the frequency doubling effect can be well suppressed by superimposing a larger DC excitation on the AC excitation. The laser scribing technology was used to prepare graphene film in only one step, and the screen printing technology was used to prepare conductive electrodes. The microphone and B&K system was used to record the sound pressure level and study the suppression of frequency doubling effect. Finally, the sound pressure levels with the three different kinds of excitations were measured. The measured results show that they have a good agreement with the theoretical results. The suppression effect will be better when DC amplitude is greater than AC amplitude. Therefore, this work has certain reference significance for the further study and application of thermoacoustic speakers.

Tunable optical diffusers have attracted attention because of the rapid development of next generation stretchable optoelectronics and optomechanics applications. Flexible wrinkle structures have the potential to change the light path and tune the diffusion capability, which is beneficial to fabricate optical diffusers. The generation of wrinkles usually depends on an external stimulus, thus resulting in complicated fabricating equipment and processes. In this study, a facile and low-cost method is proposed to fabricate wrinkle structures by the self-wrinkling of thermal-cured polymer for tunable optical diffusers. The uncured polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) precursors were exposed to UV/ozone to obtain hard silica layers and then crosslinked via heating to induce the wrinkle patterns. The wrinkle structures were demonstrated as strain-dependent tunable optical diffusers and the optical diffusion of transmitted light via the deformable wrinkle structures was studied and adjusted. The incident light isotropically diffused through the sample at the initial state. When the wrinkle structures deformed, it showed a more pronounced isotropic optical diffusion with uniaxial tensile strain. The optical diffusion is anisotropical with a further increase in uniaxial tensile strain. The proposed method of fabricating wrinkles by UV/ozone-assisted self-wrinkling of thermal-cured polymer films is simple and cost-effective, and the obtained structures have potential applications in tunable optical diffusers.

Abstract Background Thyroid metastases from colorectal cancer (CRC) are rare, both in clinical practice and in the literature; hence, their diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and prognostic factors require further investigations. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed for four cases of thyroid metastases from CRC, treated in our center between January 2005 and December 2015, and the relevant literature was searched using PubMed, resulting in the identification of 17 patients with detailed information available. The clinical data and follow-up information of our patients and the previously reported cases were collected and compared. Results The median age of the 21 patients was 59 years (44.5 and 66 years for our patients and the previously reported cases, respectively). Fifteen (71.4%) primary tumors were distributed throughout the distal colon or rectum (75% [3/4] in our center and 70.5% [12/17] in the previously reported cases). According to our analysis, we found that 81.0% of patients (17/21) showed concomitant lung metastasis. Among them, all four patients in our center showed lung metastasis, and 75% (3/4) developed thyroid metastases after the lung metastasis. In the previously reported cases, the corresponding proportions were 76.5 and 76.5% (13/17) of patients, respectively. The median time after primary tumor diagnosis to thyroid metastasis development was 28 months (26 months in our center and 35 months in the previously reported cases). One patient with advanced CRC in our center died 5 months after the thyroid metastasis was identified, while the remaining three patients are currently alive (longest follow-up time, 27 months). The median survival time after thyroid metastasis during 3 years of follow-up of the previously reported 17 patients was 12 months. There was no difference in the overall survival between patients treated non-surgically (8/21) and patients undergoing thyroidectomy alone or thyroidectomy with adjuvant therapy (13/21) (p = 0.388). In addition, we found that the overall survival of the patients whose other metastases were treated with radical treatment was superior to that in those treated with palliative treatment (p = 0.022). Conclusions Thyroid metastases from CRC are rare in clinical practice and are a manifestation of advanced CRC. The prognosis of patients with thyroid metastases from CRC is related to various factors, including the grade of malignancy of the primary lesion, the presence of other metastases, and whether the metastases are timely diagnosed and a radical treatment strategy is employed.

This study aimed to investigate the lipid lowering effects of lutein and explore the specific regulatory mechanism of lutein in HepG2 cells. The experimental results showed that compared with free fatty acids (FFAs)-treated group, 16 μM lutein showed a significant lipid-lowering effect, decreased TG and TC levels, and alleviated oxidative stress. In addition, lutein decreased the gene expression levels related to adipose synthesis, while increased the expression levels of genes related to lipid oxidation, but can be reversed by compound C. Furthermore, 16 μM lutein increased the activity of AMPK, the ratio of AMP/ATP and the expression of AMPK phosphorylated protein. The docking results showed the interaction of lutein with the γ-subunit of AMPK protein. These results together suggested that lutein attenuated oxidative stress and liver fat accumulation induced by FFAs by activating AMPK.

In order to achieve hot processing products with expected microstructures, the construction of corresponding relationships between micro-evolution mechanisms and hot processing parameters is essential. In this study, such corresponding relationships of as-cast AlCu4SiMg alloy were constructed by double evaluating processing maps and Zener-Holloman (Z) parameter maps. Based on the stress-strain data obtained from a series of isothermal compression experiments, the processing maps of AlCu4SiMg alloy were constructed at the strain of 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 and 0.9 s-1. The processing maps revealed that the optimal hot deformation parameter windows corresponding to dynamic recrystallization (DRX) micro-evolution mechanism mainly appear at high temperature and moderate strain rate. On the other hand, the response maps of Z parameter at discrete strains were constructed, and the ideal processing windows were calibrated at the domains with relatively low lnZ-value. A phenomenon was found that the optimal deformation parameter windows identified by Z parameter are more conservative than those identified by processing map. By integrating processing maps and Z parameter maps, the optimal processing parameter windows corresponding to DRX micro-evolution mechanism for AlCu4SiMg alloy were finally obtained.

Breastfeeding has a wide range of benefits for both infants and mothers. The identification of factors associated with exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) are important to increase the prevalence of EBF. The study aimed to determine the prevalence of EBF within the first six months and its associated factors in Kaiyuan, Yunnan Province, Southwest China. This cross-sectional study was conducted in Kaiyuan, a middle-sized city of Yunnan Province, Southwest China. Mothers of infants under twelve months were randomly selected for a face to face interview in four towns (two in urban areas and two in rural areas) in Kaiyuan. A structured questionnaire was applied for collection of sociodemographic information, mothers' and infants' health, and breastfeeding information. A 24-hour food recall survey was used to collect infant feeding information. A logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the factors independently associated with exclusive breastfeeding for infants up to six months of age. The number of 417 mothers with infants under six months was interviewed. The prevalence of EBF at six months was 27.34%. Logistic regression indicated that EBF within six months was more likely to be practiced by mothers who had higher average household income per year (OR = 2.09, 95% CI: 1.05-4.17 p = 0.037; OR = 1.85, 95% CI: 1.04-3.28 p = 0.037), and mothers who received breastfeeding information (OR = 2.46, (95%CI: 1.45-4.18, p = 0.0009). The prevalence of EBF in Kaiyuan, Southwest China is considerably lower than national and international recommendations. Yearly household income, and mothers who received breastfeeding information are associated with higher EBF prevalence. Breastfeeding information should be given to mothers in order to increase the prevalence of EBF.

We studied the microstructures and isothermal oxidation of the Nb-silicide-based alloys Nb-11.5Ti-18Si-5Mo-2W-4.9Sn-4.6Ge-4.5Cr-4.7Al-1Hf (JZ4) and Nb-21Ti-18Si-6.7Mo-1.2W-4.4Sn-4.2Ge-4Cr-3.7Al-0.8Hf (JZ5), calculated their average creep rate for the creep goal conditions of T = 1200 °C and σ = 170 MPa, and compared properties of the two alloys with those of other refractory metal (RM) complex concentrated alloys (RCCAs). Both alloys had a density less than 7.3 g/cm3 and lower than the density of multiphase bcc solid solution + M5Si3 silicide RCCAs. There was macrosegregation of Si in both alloys, which had the same phases in their as-cast microstructures, namely βNb5Si3, αNb5Si3, A15-Nb3X (X = Al, Ge, Si, Sn), TM5Sn2X (X = Al, Ge, Si), C14-Cr2Nb, but no solid solution. After heat treatment at 1500 °C for 100 h, a low volume fraction of a W-rich (Nb, W)ss solid solution was observed in both alloys together with βNb5Si3, αNb5Si3 and A15-Nb3X but not the TM5Sn2X, whereas the Laves phase was observed only in JZ4. At 800 °C, both alloys did not pest, and there was no spallation of their scales at 1200 °C. At both temperatures, both alloys followed parabolic oxidation kinetics and their weight changes were lower than those of Ti-rich Nb-silicide-based alloys. The oxidation of both alloys was superior to that of other RCCAs studied to date. For each alloy the Si macrosegregation, volume fraction of solid solution, chemical composition of solid solution and Nb5Si3, and weight changes in isothermal oxidation at 800 and 1200 °C that were calculated using the alloy design methodology NICE agreed well with the experimental results.

Sulfate can be activated by ATP sulfurylase and adenosine 5’-phosphosulfate kinase (APSK) in vivo. Recent studies suggested that APSK in Arabidopsis thaliana regulated the partition between APS reduction and phosphorylation and its activity can be modulated by cellular redox status. In order to study regulation of APSK in rice (OsAPSK), OsAPSK1 gene was cloned and its activity was analyzed. OsAPSK1 C36 and C69 were found to be the conserved counterparts of C86 and C119, which involved in disulfide formation in AtAPSK. C36A/C69A OsAPSK1 double mutation was made by site directed mutagenesis. OsAPSK1 and its mutant were prokaryotically over-expressed and purified, and then assayed for APS phosphorylation activity. OsAPSK1 activity was depressed by oxidized glutathione, while the activity of its mutant was not. Further studies in the case that oxidative stress will fluctuate in vivo 3’-phosphoadenosine-5’-phosphosulfate content, and all APSK isoenzymes have similar regulation patterns are necessary to be performed.

The microstructures and properties of the alloys JZ3 (Nb-12.4Ti-17.7Si-6Ta-2.7W-3.7Sn-4.8Ge-1Hf-4.7Al-5.2Cr) and JZ3+(Nb-12.4Ti-19.7Si-5.7Ta-2.3W-5.7Sn-4.9Ge-0.8Hf-4.6Al-5.2Cr) were studied. The densities of both alloys were lower than the densities of Ni-based superalloys and many of the refractory metal complex concentrated alloys (RCCAs) studied to date. Both alloys had Si macrosegregation and the same phases in their as cast and heat treated microstructures, namely βNb5Si3, αNb5Si3, A15-Nb3X (X = Al, Ge, Si, Sn), C14-Cr2Nb and solid solution. W-rich solid solutions were stable in both alloys. At 800 °C only the alloy JZ3 did not show pest oxidation, and at 1200 °C a thin and well adhering scale formed only on JZ3+. The alloy JZ3+ followed parabolic oxidation with rate constant one order of magnitude higher than the single crystal Ni-superalloy CMSX-4 for the first 14 h of oxidation. The oxidation of both alloys was superior to that of RCCAs. Both alloys were predicted to have better creep at the creep goal condition compared with the superalloy CMSX-4. Calculated Si macrosegregation, solid solution volume fractions, chemical compositions of solid solution and Nb5Si3, weight changes in isothermal oxidation at 800 and 1200 °C using the alloy design methodology NICE agreed well with the experimental results.

Polyborosiloxane gel (PBS-gel) with shear hardening properties was prepared by cross-linking boric acid and hydroxyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane through B–O–Si dynamic covalent bonding. The prepared PBS gel was mixed with methyl vinyl silicone rubber (MVQ), and a benzoyl peroxide (BPO) cross-linking agent was added to vulcanize the silicone rubber. At the same time, the gel molecules were co-vulcanizing with MVQ to produce molecular cross-linking. The effects of PBS-gel on the damping properties of silicone rubber were analyzed by dynamic rheological test, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and dynamic mechanical analysis. The results demonstrated that the damping performance of MVQ/PBS rubber is greatly improved and the rubber has a tanδ > 0.3 in the range of −25~125 °C. The shear-hardening gel is uniformly dispersed in the system, due to the combined action of covalent bonds and intermolecular forces, which act as an active molecular chain that can efficiently dissipate and transfer energy inside the silicone rubber.

In this paper two Nb-silicide-based alloys with nominal compositions (at.%) Nb-12Ti-18Si-6Ta-2.5W-1Hf-2Sn-2Ge (JZ1) and Nb-12Ti-18Si-6Ta-2.5W-1Hf-5Sn-5Ge (JZ2) were studied. The alloys were designed using the alloy design methodology NICE to meet specific research objectives. The cast microstructures of both alloys were sensitive to solidification conditions. There was macro-segregation of Si in JZ1 and JZ2. In both alloys the βNb5Si3 was the primary phase and the Nbss was stable. The A15-Nb3X (X = Ge,Si,Sn) was stable only in JZ2. The Nbss+βNb5Si3 eutectic in both alloys was not stable as was the Nb3Si silicide that formed only in JZ1. At 800 °C both alloys followed linear oxidation kinetics and were vulnerable to pesting. At 1200 °C both alloys exhibited parabolic oxidation kinetics in the early stages and linear kinetics at longer times. The adhesion of the scale that formed on JZ2 at 1200 °C and consisted of Nb and Ti-rich oxides, silica and HfO2 was better than that of JZ1. The microstructure of JZ2 was contaminated by oxygen to a depth of about 200 μm. There was no Ge or Sn present in the scale. The substrate below the scale was richer in Ge and Sn where the NbGe2, Nb5(Si1-xGex)3, W-rich Nb5(Si1-xGex)3, and A15-Nb3X compounds (X = Ge,Si,Sn) were formed in JZ2. The better oxidation behavior of JZ2 compared with JZ1 correlated well with the decrease in VEC and increase in δ parameter values, in agreement with NICE. For both alloys the experimental data for Si macrosegregation, vol.% Nbss, chemical composition of Nbss and Nb5Si3, and weight gains at 800 and 1200 °C was compared with the calculations (predictions) of NICE. The agreement was very good. The calculated creep rates of both alloys at 1200 °C and 170 MPa were lower than that of the Ni-based superalloy CMSX-4 for the same conditions but higher than 10−7 s−1.

Low-impact development (LID) is increasingly recognized as one of the most important stormwater source controls on a small scale. However, few studies have reported how LID practices affect the generation and control of urban diffuse pollution at the scale of urban drainage units. In this study, paired conventional and LID drainage units (CDU and LDU) were used to distinguish the role of LID practices in urban sediment accumulation and release at a residential drainage units scale (about 1–2 ha). The urban sediment dynamic build-up process, amounts per unit to equilibrium, amount and percentage of urban sediment washed-off by rainfall, pollutant concentrations during rainfall-runoff processes, and discharge water volume and pollution load from drainage units were all notably different between the paired drainage units. These results indicated that (1) LID practices have a combined effect on urban sediments accumulation and release on a drainage unit scale via reduction of the source area, changes in microtopography and formation of a greater sink area; (2) landscape alterations with LID practices within a small catchment reduced and disconnected areas with impervious surfaces, subsequently reducing the kinetic energy of wash-off and transport for urban sediment; (3) LID practices exerted notable hydrological responses and water quality responses at a micro urban catchment scale by reducing the first flush load and entire process discharge load. The results presented herein will facilitate optimal design for reliable treatment performance and assessment of the effectiveness of LID practices on an urban drainage units scale.

A balanced diet is essential to achieve and maintain good health. In this study, we assessed diet quality of middle aged and elderly people based on Chinese Diet Balance Index-07 (DBI-07) and explored the associations between DBI-07 and anemia. Data analyzed for this study was from the 2010–2012 National Nutrition and Health Survey in Yunnan province, southwest China (n = 738, aged 50–77 years). Dietary recalls over there consecutive days were done in a face-to-face interview. The scores of DBI-07 for each component and three DBI-07 indicators ((Lower Bound Score (LBS), Higher Bound Score (HBS), Diet Quality Distance (DQD)) were calculated according to compliance with the Dietary Guidelines for Chinese residents. Hemoglobin (Hb) concentration was determined using the cyanmethemoglobin method. Univariate and multivariate linear regression models were used to explore the associations between DBI-07 indicators and anemia, as well as scores of DBI-07 components and Hb level. The sample included 336 men and 402 women. Inadequate intakes of vegetables, fruits, dairy, soybean, eggs, fish and excessive intakes of cereals, meat, cooking oil, salt were both common. 91.3% of the participants had moderate or high levels of inadequate food intake, while 37.7% had moderate or high levels of excessive food intake. The mean Hb was 14.2 ± 1.7 g/dL, with a prevalence of anemia of 13.0%. Subjects with high LBS and DQD were more likely to be anemic (all p < 0.05). After adjustment for potential confounders, there were positive correlations between Hb level and the intakes of vegetables and soybean (βvegetables = 1.04, p < 0.01; βsoybean = 0.82, p = 0.04). In conclusion, dietary imbalance and anemia are common in middle aged and elderly population in southwest China and inadequate intakes of vegetables and soybean may increase the risk of anemia.

Autophagy, a highly conserved homeostatic cellular process that removes and recycles damaged proteins and organelles in response to cellular stress, is believed to play a crucial role in the immune response and inflammation. The role of autophagy in bladder cystitis, however, has not well been clarified. Here we investigate the role of detrusor myocytes autophagy (DMA) in cyclophosphamide-induced cystitis animal model. 164 female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomized into three experimental groups and compared to three control groups, respectively. The expressions of microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3), p-p70s6k (the phosphorylated form of ribosomal protein S6), SOD2 (superoxide dismutase 2) in the bladder muscular layer were measured using western blot. The co-location of LC3, alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), and autophagic vacuoles were investigated with double-labeled immunofluorescence and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The expression of lL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, malondialdehyde (MDA), and glutathione (GSH) in the detrusor layer were analyzed using ELISA. The bladder inflammation and the number of mast cells in the muscular layer were analyzed by histology. The bladder function was evaluated using cystometry. In cyclophosphamide-induced cystitis, autophagy was detected in detrusor myocytes by increased LC3, p-p70s6k expression, and autophagosomes. However, the presence of enhanced inflammation and oxidative stress in the cyclophosphamide-treated group suggest autophagy of detrusor myocytes may not be sufficiently activated. Inflammation and oxidative stress were significantly decreased and the bladder histology and micturition function were significantly improved with rapamycin (RAPA, autophagy agonist) pre-treatment. In contrast, inflammation and oxidative stress were dramatically increased and the bladder histology and function were negatively affected with chloroquine (CQ, autophagy blocker) pre-treated. These findings preferentially provide evidence of the association between DMA and cyclophosphamide-induced cystitis in rats. The autophagy agonist RAPA significantly decreased the inflammation and protected the bladder function, which might be considered as a potential treatment for interstitial cystitis.

This paper proposes a modified nonsingular fast terminal sliding mode (NFTSM) guidance law to solve the problem of ground moving target tracking for fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in a planar environment. Firstly, the loitering algorithm is analysed, which can steer the UAV to follow and circle around a ground moving target with the desired distance by heading angle control. Secondly, the effects of different parameters on the convergence time of sliding manifold is presented which is helpful for the designing of sliding manifold. Singularity can be avoided by using a modified saturation function which is obtained through a small range around the null point. Moreover, the NFTSM sliding manifold is used in the loitering algorithm. By using the Lyapunov theory, the finite-time convergence of the proposed method has been proved in the the reaching phase and the sliding phase. In order to verify the approach’s feasibility and benefits, numerical simulations are performed by using a moving target with three different motion states in comparison with the conventional sliding model control method. Simulation results indicate that, under the proposed NFTSM guidance law, the UAV can reach the desired distance in a short time.

BACKGROUND: To assess the level of CR6-interacting factor 1 (CRIF1), a cell cycle negative regulator, in patients with leukemia and investigate the role of CRIF1 in regulating leukemia cell cycle. METHODS: We compared the CRIF1 level in bone marrow (BM) samples from healthy and acute myeloid leukemia (AML), iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and AML-complete remission (AML-CR) subjects. We also manipulated CRIF1 level in the Jurkat cells using lentivirus-mediated overexpression or siRNA-mediated depletion. Co-culture with the BM stromal cells (BMSCs) was used to induce leukemia cell cycle arrest and mimic the BM microenvironment. RESULTS: We found significant decreases of CRIF1 mRNA and protein in the AML group. CRIF1 overexpression increased the proportion of Jurkat cells arrested in G0/G1, while depletion of endogenous CRIF1 decreased cell cycle arrest. Depletion of CRIF1 reversed BMSCs induced cell cycle arrest in leukemia cells. Co-immunoprecipitation showed a specific binding of CDK2 to CRIF1 in Jurkat cells during cell cycle arrest. Co-localization of two proteins in both nucleus and cytoplasm was also observed with immunofluorescent staining. CONCLUSION: CRIF1 may play a regulatory role in the BM microenvironment-induced leukemia cell cycle arrest possibly through interacting with CDK2 and acting as a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor.

Of the many direct numerical methods, the pseudospectral method serves as an effective tool to solve the reentry trajectory optimization for hypersonic vehicles. However, the traditional pseudospectral method is time-consuming due to large number of discretization points. For the purpose of autonomous and adaptive reentry guidance, the research herein presents a multistage trajectory control strategy based on the pseudospectral method, capable of dealing with the unexpected situations in reentry flight. The strategy typically includes two subproblems: the trajectory estimation and trajectory refining. In each processing stage, the proposed method generates a specified range of trajectory with the transition of the flight state. The full glide trajectory consists of several optimal trajectory sequences. The newly focused geographic constraints in actual flight are discussed thereafter. Numerical examples of free-space flight, target transition flight, and threat avoidance flight are used to show the feasible application of multistage pseudospectral method in reentry trajectory optimization.
