This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of 18F-fludeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) and MRI features in patients with high-risk and very-high-risk cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC). This study included 54 consecutive patients with surgically resected primary high-risk and very-high-risk cSCC who underwent pre-operative FDG-PET/CT and/or MRI. Among them, 14 patients (26%) had recurrences. We retrospectively reviewed the FDG-PET/CT (n = 34) and MRI (n = 48) and investigated the clinical significance and prognostic value of imaging features in cSCC. On FDG-PET/CT, the maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) of the primary tumor (13.0 ± 6.4 vs. 6.9 ± 5.3, p < 0.05) was higher in cSCC with recurrence than in cSCC without recurrence. On MRI, the maximum diameter of the lesion (46.8 ± 24.1 mm vs 30.4 ± 17.0 mm, p < 0.05) and the frequency of muscle/tendon/bone invasion (42% vs 11%, p < 0.05) were significantly greater in cSCC with recurrence than in cSCC without recurrence. In the univariate analysis, prognostic factors for recurrence were SUVmax of the primary tumor (p < 0.01), the maximum diameter of the lesion (p < 0.05), and depth of invasion (p < 0.05). The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves of the SUVmax (0.78) were superior to those of the maximum diameter (0.71) and depth of invasion (0.60). SUVmax, maximum diameter, and depth of invasion were useful parameters for prognostic factors predicting recurrence in patients with high-risk and very-high-risk cSCC. The present case study reports contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance findings in three patients with histopathologically proven IgG4-related chronic sclerosing sialadenitis of the submandibular gland. All three patients presented with painless swelling of the submandibular region. The contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images showed reticular enhancement of the swollen submandibular gland. Radiological–pathological correlation revealed that the characteristic reticular enhancement corresponded to fibrosis and to inflammatory cell infiltration in the interlobular septa and in the periductal region of the submandibular gland. Background: There has been no study that has reported magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of extrauterine high-grade serous carcinomas (HGSCs) that have been histologically determined by the new criteria.Purpose: To assess MRI findings of extrauterine HGSCs based on new pathologic criteria.Material and Methods: Fifty patients with histopathologically proven extrauterine HGSCs, who underwent pretreatment gadolinium-enhanced MRI, were included in this study. After surgery, the primary sites were histopathologically determined based on new criteria for primary site assignment in extrauterine HGSCs as follows: fallopian tube (n = 34); ovary (n = 9); primary peritoneal HGSC (n = 1); and tubo-ovarian (n = 6). We retrospectively reviewed MR images and compared the MR findings between tubal and ovarian primaries.Results: MRI patterns with tubal primaries were classified as ovarian cancer (62%), peritoneal cancer (35%), and fallopian tube cancer (3%). MRI patterns with ovarian primaries were classified as ovarian cancer (78%) and peritoneal cancer (22%). The frequency of the involvement of the fallopian tube, ovary, peritoneum, uterus, and lymph node was not significantly different between the two pathologies. There was no significant difference in the abnormal amount of ascites, hemorrhagic ascites, or characteristics of the ovarian lesions between the two pathologies.Conclusion: On MR images, tubal primaries almost always exhibited ovarian or peritoneal cancer pattern, but rarely exhibited fallopian tube cancer pattern. MR findings could not accurately differentiate between tubal and ovarian primaries; therefore, histopathologic investigation is essential for determination of the primary site of extrauterine HGSCs. Through magneto-conductance measurements, we have observed sizeable enhancement of anti-weak localization (AWL) effect in In2O3−x thin film (60 nm) caused by H2 gas mixing (10%) in N2 gas (90%) atmosphere on the heat treatment (HT). In case of the HT in pure N2 gas, the AWL effect is recognized, but is very small. With respect to those experimental results, we conclude that interstitial indium atoms in In2O3−x are effectively generated and the AWL effect due to the spin–orbit interaction is come up. Objectives: The current study aimed to assess CT and MRI characteristics of histological subtypes of head and neck ossifying fibroma (OF)., Methods: 12 patients with histopathologically-proven head and neck OF were included in this study. Lesions were pathologically classified into three histological subtypes: eight cement-OFs (COFs), three juvenile psammomatoid OFs (JPOFs), and one juvenile trabecular OF (JTOF). All patients underwent CT examination, while seven also underwent MRI. Imaging characteristics were retrospectively assessed., Results: On CT images, the lesion margins were well-defined in nine patients (75%) (seven COFs and two JPOFs), partially ill-defined in two (17%) (one COF and one JTOF), and ill-defined in one (8%) (one JPOF). The continuity of the eroded overlying bone cortex was maintained in nine patients (75%) (seven COFs and two JPOFs) but disrupted in three (25%) (one COF, one JPOF, one JTOF). With respect to lesion density, homogeneous ground-glass opacity was observed in five patients (42%) (five COFs), target-like appearance in three (25%) (two COFs, one JPOF), and mixture of hyper- and hypodense areas were observed in four (33%) (one COF, two JPOFs, one JTOF). MR signal intensity was homogeneous in two patients (29%) (two COFs) and heterogeneous in five (71%) (two COFs, two JPOFs, one JTOF)., Conclusions: COFs tended to exhibit well-defined margins and preserved continuity of the overlying bone cortex. COFs were usually homogeneous, whereas JPOFs and JTOF were always heterogeneous. Target-like appearance was one of the characteristics of OFs, but it was observed in both COF and JPOF.
