A low-carbon and energy-saving sintering process with uniform temperature distribution has been developed to address several issues associated with the sintering of drill bits in medium-frequency furnaces, namely, the large circumferential temperature differences, uneven heating of the mold, and low energy utilization. Theoretical calculations indicated that the output energy of the conventional drill bit sintering process was 12.7 kW·h, with an energy loss of 8.84 kW·h. The low-carbon sintering process achieved an output energy of 4.2 kW·h, with an energy loss of only 0.26 kW·h. Consequently, the energy utilization rates for the two processes were 30.4% and 93.8%, respectively. It was observed through the experiment that when sintering 76/49 mm drill bits at insulation temperatures of 900 °C and 1080 °C, the circumferential temperature differences in the mold were 43.7 °C and 48 °C, respectively, in the conventional drill bit sintering process. In contrast, the circumferential temperature differences in the mold were reduced to 8.7 °C and 11.3 °C, respectively, in the low-carbon and energy-saving sintering process with uniform temperature. This indicates that the average circumferential temperature difference in the mold can be reduced by 81.61% at 900 °C and by 76.46% at 1080 °C, leading to improved drill bit quality.

Abstract Uromodulin, also named Tamm Horsfall protein, have been associated with renal function and sodium homeostasis regulation. The authors sought to examine the effects of salt intake on plasma and urinary uromodulin levels and the association of its genetic variants with salt sensitivity in Chinese adults. Eighty patients from our natural population cohort were maintained sequentially either on a usual diet for 3 days, a low‐salt diet (3.0 g) for 7 days, and a high‐salt diet (18.0 g) for an additional 7 days. In addition, the authors studied 514 patients of the Baoji Salt‐Sensitive Study, recruited from 124 families who received the same salt intake intervention, and investigated the association of genetic variations in uromodulin gene with salt sensitivity. Plasma uromodulin levels were significantly lower on a high‐salt diet than on a baseline diet (28.3 ± 4.5 vs. 54.9 ± 8.8 ng/ml). Daily urinary excretions of uromodulin were significantly decreased on a high‐salt diet than on a low‐salt diet (28.7 ± 6.7 vs. 157.2 ± 21.7 ng/ml). SNPs rs7193058 and rs4997081 were associated with the diastolic blood pressure (DBP), mean arterial pressure (MAP) responses to the high‐salt diet. In addition, several SNPs in the uromodulin gene were significantly associated with pulse pressure (PP) response to the low‐salt intervention. This study shows that dietary salt intake affects plasma and urinary uromodulin levels and that uromodulin may play a role in the pathophysiological process of salt sensitivity in the Chinese populations.

The existence of heterogeneous rock mass in the goaf easily causes surface deformation, subsidence, and even collapse, which restricts the development of urbanization of the buildings above the goaf. Because of the saturation of the city and the shortage of power supply, the idea of building the Yingbin substation was proposed on the old coal mine goaf in Xinhua District, Pingdingshan City, Henan Province, China. To ensure the safety and stability of the foundation of the proposed substation, the comprehensive detection method was proposed, which is mainly based on transient electromagnetic detection and supplemented via drilling detection. It was used to determine the spatial position and location of heterogeneous rock mass in the goaf underlying the proposed substation. The results show that 1) after eliminating the interference to the transient electromagnetic detection, it is found that there are low-resistance anomalies near the depth of −160 m at points 1 to 2 and point 8 of the X2 line and at points 1 to 3 of the Y3 line, which are preliminarily presumed to be the influence of the heterogeneous rock mass. 2) The apparent resistivity anomalous areas of −160 and −200 m depth are highly consistent, and the location and scope of the heterogeneous rock mass were basically determined. 3) The abnormal depth range of core rate obtained by drilling is in good agreement with the abnormal range of apparent resistivity at the same location obtained by transient electromagnetic, which indicates the reliability of the detection results. 4) Combining the detection results of the two methods, the location and scope of the heterogeneous rock mass were basically determined, which is located in the western part of the proposed area. The detection results can provide a basis for the safety and stability of the proposed substation foundation. To ensure the safe and stable operation of the proposed substation foundation, effective governance measures for the heterogeneous rock mass of the goaf should be taken.

Abstract Kidney cancer is the third most common malignancy of the urinary system, of which, kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC) accounts for the vast majority. Runt-related transcription factors (RUNX) are involved in multiple cellular functions. However, the diverse expression patterns and prognostic values of RUNX genes in kidney cancer remained to be elucidated. In our study, we mined the DNA methylation, transcriptional and survival data of RUNX genes in patients with different kinds of kidney cancer through Oncomine, Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis, UALCAN, Kaplan–Meier Plotter, cBioPortal and LinkedOmics. We found that RUNX1 and RUNX3 were upregulated in KIRC tissues compared with those in normal tissues. The survival analysis results indicated a high transcription level of RUNX1 was associated with poor overall survival (OS) in KIRC patients. Furthermore, KIRC tumor tissues had significantly lower levels of RUNX1 promoter methylation than that in paracancerous tissues, with decreased DNA methylation of RUNX1 notably associated with poor OS in KIRC. In conclusion, our results revealed that RUNX1 may be a potential therapeutic target for treating KIRC, and RUNX1 promoter methylation level shows promise as a novel diagnostic and prognostic biomarker, which laid a foundation for further study.

Abstract Purpose Circulating tumour cell (CTC) and CTC-white blood cell (CTC-WBC) clusters are related to the prognosis of tumour patients. However, the relationship between CTC-WBC clusters and prognosis in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) patients is not clear. We evaluated the prognostic value of CTC-WBC clusters using metastasis-free survival (MFS) and overall survival (OS) in patients with RCC. Materials and methods The baseline, survival, and CTC data of patients with RCC were statistically analysed by R. Results The Cox risk proportional regression model suggests that the total CTCs, pathology type, and CTC-WBC clusters can be used as prognostic indicators for the MFS of RCC patients. Total CTCs and solid tumour diameter can be used as prognostic indicators for the OS of RCC patients. Using Kaplan–Meier survival analysis, we found that patients with total CTCs, pathology, and CTC-WBC clusters greater than the cut-off value had a worse MFS, and patients with total CTCs greater than the cut-off value had a worse OS. Conclusion The analysis of the clinical sample data in patients with RCC shows that CTC-WBC clusters play an important role in monitoring the prognosis of RCC. Among them, total CTCs, pathology, and CTC-WBC clusters were combined as prognostic factors for the MFS of RCC patients. Total CTCs and solid tumour diameter can be combined as prognostic factors for the OS of RCC patients. These prognostic factors provide more convenient and accurate condition monitoring for renal cancer patients and can be used to actively improve the prognosis of patients.

Abstract This study investigated associations between cardiometabolic diseases, frailty, and healthcare utilization and expenditure among Chinese older adults. The participants were 5204 community-dwelling adults aged at least 60 years from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. Five cardiometabolic diseases were assessed including hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, cardiac diseases and stroke. Frailty status was based on five criteria: slowness, weakness, exhaustion, inactivity, and shrinking. Participants were deemed frailty if they met at least three criteria. As the number of cardiometabolic diseases increased, so did the prevalence of frailty, and the proportion of healthcare utilization, including outpatient visit and inpatient visit. Moreover, the total healthcare expenditure and the odds of catastrophic health expenditure were increased with the number of cardiometabolic disorders. After adjusting for covariates, cardiometabolic diseases were positively associated with higher odds of frailty, incurring outpatient and inpatient visit. And individuals with 2 or more cardiometabolic diseases had a higher odds of catastrophic health expenditure than persons with non-cardiometabolic disease. Participants who were frailty were more likely to report higher odds of healthcare utilization. These findings suggest that both cardiometabolic diseases and frailty assessment may improve identification of older adults likely to require costly, extensive healthcare.

Abstract Background Electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy (ECG-LVH) is a common manifestation of preclinical cardiovascular disease. The present study aimed to investigate risk factors for ECG-LVH and its prevalence in a cohort of young Chinese individuals. Methods (1) A total of 1515 participants aged 36–45 years old from our previously established cohort who were followed up in 2017 were included. Cross-sectional analysis was used to examine risk factors for ECG-LVH and its prevalence. (2) A total of 235 participants were recruited from the same cohort in 2013 and were followed up in 2017. Longitudinal analysis was used to determine the predictors of LVH occurrence over the 4-year period. We used multivariable logistic regression models to calculate OR and 95% CIs and to analyze risk factors for ECG-LVH. Results In the cross-sectional analysis, the prevalence of LVH diagnosed by the Cornell voltage-duration product in the overall population and the hypertensive population was 4.6% and 8.8%, respectively. The logistic regression results shown that female sex [2.611 (1.591–4.583)], hypertension [2.638 (1.449–4.803)], systolic blood pressure (SBP) [1.021 (1.007–1.035)], serum uric acid (SUA) [1.004 (1.001–1.006)] and carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) [67.670 (13.352–342.976)] were significantly associated with the risk of LVH (all P

Abstract Recently, solution‐processed organic solar cells combining small‐molecule donor and nonfullerene acceptor have achieved breakthrough results with the certified efficiency over 15%. These impressive progresses are driven by the concerted efforts of modifying the donor and acceptor materials and optimizing the morphology. Considering the defined chemical structures and easily tuned properties of small‐molecule materials, it is of great necessity and importance to pay more attentions on the topic of all‐small molecule organic solar cells. Here, we summarize the recent progress of all‐small molecule organic solar cells from the prospect of materials' evolutions and expect to provide some hints for its future developments. The involved small‐molecule donors including oligothiophene‐, benzodithiophene‐, naphthodithiophene‐, and porphyrin‐based materials are discussed to illustrate the relationship of chemical structures, properties, and device performance. Then, the small‐molecule nonfullerene acceptors in all‐small molecules organic solar cells are discussed to highlight their vital role. Finally, we will present the challenges and future of this research area.

Under the background of sustainable development, China’s economic growth engine becomes innovation-driven, and it is an important way for China to rapidly improve its green innovation capability by opening up to the outside world and utilizing the spillover effect of international technology. In this article, the system quality evaluation system is reconstructed by the method of fully arranged polygonal graphical indicators, and the provincial system quality in China is measured and added into the model as a regulating variable. The dynamic panel method and the dynamic threshold panel method are used to test the direct effects of foreign direct investment (FDI) and foreign trade on green innovation capability, the interaction effect of institutional quality, and the threshold effect. Empirical results show that the three technology spillovers have significantly promoted China’s green innovation capability. System quality will affect the determining coefficient of international technology spillovers on China’s green innovation capability. The positive promoting effects of FDI and foreign trade on China’s green innovation capability, all increase with the improvement of China’s system quality. Therefore, when utilizing FDI and foreign trade to promote green innovation in each region, each region should consider creating a good institutional environment for the emergence of international technological effects.

Under the background of high-quality development, the impact of foreign direct investment on carbon emissions has attracted increasing attention. This research studies the impact of foreign direct investment on carbon emissions under the effect of institutional quality regulation. Specifically, this study uses China’s provincial panel data from 2010 to 2019, taking political system quality, economic system quality, and legal system quality as the external environment of system quality, this research studies the threshold effect of foreign direct investment on carbon emissions. The results show that foreign direct investment can effectively restrain the increase in carbon emissions. The impact of FDI on China’s carbon emissions has an obvious economic threshold effect: with the increase of regional corruption, the political quality is gradually declining, and the inhibition effect of foreign direct investment on carbon emissions is declining. With the increase of marketization and intellectual property protection, the regional economic system and legal system have gradually improved, and the role of foreign direct investment in carbon emissions has been further increased. Therefore, China should create a good institutional environment for FDI technology spillovers.

ObjectiveTo investigate the protective effects of crocetin against transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β)—induced injury in LO2 cells.MethodsHuman hepatocyte LO2 cells were pre-treated with crocetin (10 μM) for 6, 12, and 24 h, and then induced by TGF-β. Proliferation, oxidative stress, apoptosis, autophagy, and related proteins were assessed.ResultsCrocetin pre-treating promoted proliferation but suppressed apoptosis in TGF-β-induced LO2 cells. Crocetin protected LO2 cells from TGF-β-induced inflammation and oxygen stress by reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA) but enhancing superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione (GSH). Autophagy was suppressed in TGF-β but crocetin promoted autophagy in LO2 cells by mediating Adenosine 5'-monophosphate—activated protein kinase (AMPK)/mammalian target of rapamycin (m-TOR) signaling pathway via upregulating p-AMPK and p-Beclin-1 but downregulating p-mTOR.ConclusionsCrocetin protected LO2 cells from TGF-β-induced damage by promoting proliferation and autophagy, and suppressing apoptosis and anti-inflammation via regulation of AMPK/m-TOR signaling pathway.

The organizational development following the philosophy of sustainability is becoming the prerequisite for companies, which urges and emphasizes them to incorporate social, economic, and environmental aspects into their manufacturing and operations. Despite plethora of researches exploring lean practices as the solution for improving productivity, it is limited to the operational aspects only, thus ignoring the other aspects of sustainability. Moreover, there is a dearth of studies that explored the combined effect of sustainable innovation, process innovation, and lean practices on the three aspects of sustainability. The current study is an attempt and contribution in the existing literature through the sample of 431 respondents from ISO 14001 certified Chinese organizations during COVID-19 pandemic conditions. The estimations were performed through the Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling. The results revealed a positive association among the proposed hypothesis of aforementioned studied phenomena. In addition, the current study explores the role of sustainable innovation as a mediator between lean and three dimensions of the sustainability, which is reportedly found to be a partial mediator as both direct and indirect effects are found to be statistically significant. Through the findings of the current study, the managers and decision makers can comprehend the potential of the possible benefits which can be reaped by incorporating both lean and sustainability within their operations.

Abstract Background Glycolysis is a central metabolic pathway for tumor cells. However, the potential roles of glycolysis-related genes in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) have not been investigated. Methods Seven glycolysis-related gene sets were selected from MSigDB and were analyzed through GSEA. Using TCGA database, the glycolysis-related gene signature was constructed. Prognostic analyses were based on the Kaplan–Meier method. The cBioPortal database was employed to perform the mutation analyses. The CIBERSORT algorithm and TIMER database were used to determine the immunological effect of glycolytic gene signature. The expressions in protein level of eight glycolytic risk genes were determined by HPA database. Finally, qPCR, MTT and Transwell invasion assays were conducted to validate the roles of core glycolytic risk genes (CD44, PLOD1 and PLOD2) in RCC. Results Four glycolysis-related gene sets were significantly enriched in RCC samples. The glycolytic risk signature was constructed (including CD44, PLOD2, KIF20A, IDUA, PLOD1, HMMR, DEPDC1 and ANKZF1) and identified as an independent RCC prognostic factor (HR = 1.204). Moreover, genetic alterations of glycolytic risk genes were uncommon in RCC (10.5%) and glycolytic risk signature can partially affect immune microenvironment of RCC. Six glycolytic risk genes (except for IDUA and HMMR) were over-expression in A498 and 786-O renal cancer cells through qPCR test. MTT and Transwell assays revealed that silencing of CD44, PLOD1 and PLOD2 suppressed the proliferation and invasion of renal cancer cells. Conclusions The glycolysis-related risk signature is closely associated with RCC prognosis, progression and immune microenvironment. CD44, PLOD1 and PLOD2 may serve as RCC oncogenes.

Abstract Background To evaluate RV-PA coupling in post operative TOF patients with ventricular dilatation underwent for PVR and investigate the correlation between ventricular functions measuring Ea/Emax ratio using cardio magnetic resonance and the effect of surgical type at primary repair of TOF on coupling. Method RV-PA coupling was measured noninvasively by Ea/Emax ratio from CMRI and ECHO. From CMRI results the patients were divided in two groups, RV-PA coupling and RV-PA uncoupling. Ea/Emax ≤1 was considered for coupling patients and Ea/Emax > 1 for uncoupling patients. Results Ninety patients were uncoupled (Ea/Emax: 1.55 ± 0.46) and 45 were coupled (Ea/Emax: 0.81 ± 0.15). Out of 75 TAP repaired patients 60 were uncoupled RV-PV. In addition, higher pro-BNP is an important factor for uncoupled RV-PV (P = 0.001). CMR evaluation for right ventricular function between uncoupling and coupling were RVEDVi (196.65 ± 63.57 vs. 154.28 ± 50.07, P = 0.001), RVESVi (121.19 ± 51.47 vs. 83.94 ± 20.43, P = 0.001), RVSVi (67.19 ± 19.87 vs. 106.31 ± 33.44, P = 0.001), and RVEF (40.90 ± 8.73 vs. 54.63 ± 4.76, P = 0.001). The increased RVEDVi, RVESVi and RVSVi and decreased RVEF have significant correlation with Ea/Emax. Ea/Emax was also found positively correlated with RVEDVi (P =

Abstract Background Mitomycin (MMC) has been frequently used as the compound for intravesical treatment. The relatively new pyrimidine analog gemcitabine (GEM) has exhibited anticancer effect on various solid cancers, such as the advanced bladder cancer. In this study, the GEM and MMC in treating non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) cases was compared through systemic review. Methods In accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement, the electronic databases, including Embase, PubMed, Chinese biomedicine literature database, the Cochrane Library, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, NHS Evidence, Chinese technological periodical full-text database, and Chinese periodical full-text database, were systemically reviewed from inception to October 2018. Then, the RevMan 5.0 software was applied for data analysis. Five randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving a total of 335 patients were included. Results For MMC group, the recurrence rate in the mitomycin arm increased compared with that in GEM group (OR = 0.44 95% CI [0.24, 0.78]), and the difference was statistically significant between the two groups. GEM was associated with reduced incidence of chemical cystitis compared with that of MMC (OR = 0.23 95% CI [0.12, 0.44]). Differences in hematuria (OR = 0.46 95% CI [0.16, 1.31]), skin reaction (OR = 0.49 95% CI [0.14, 1.70]) and liver and kidney function damage (OR = 0.51 95% CI [0.09, 2.85]) displayed no statistical significance between the two groups. Conclusion Findings in our study demonstrate the superior efficacy of GEM over MMC in reducing the relapse rate among NMIBC patients following transurethral resection (TUR). In addition, GEM is associated with reduced local toxic effects on the bladder compared with those of MMC. However, more future studies are needed to examine GEM safety when used as the monotherapy or polytherapy for bladder patients. More RCTs with high quality are also required to validate our findings due to the limitations of the current meta-analysis.

Abstract Background Two cases with refractory macular edema secondary to adult-onset Coats’ disease underwent unsatisfactory treatment by intravitreal injections of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) drugs and retinal photocoagulation. Case presentation The authors highlight the guiding effect of the measurement of cytokines in the aqueous humor for the treatment of adult-onset Coats’ disease with refractory macular edema. In the two cases, typical Coats’ disease changes, including telangiectasis, subretinal exudation and macular edema were observed. Initial treatment consisted of intravitreal anti-VEGF drugs and retinal laser photocoagulation; however, the response was poor. Then, the aqueous humor was acquired and the cytokine concentrations were measured (Flow Cytometry Analysis, Beijing Giantmed Medical Diagnostics Lab). When the cytokine levels were tested every time there would be quality control, with a fixed concentration of cytokines samples to detect before the results reported. A low level of VEGF and a high level of inflammatory cytokines were found. Then, treatment was switched to intravitreal injection of dexamethasone implant (Ozurdex®) (Allergan, Inc., Irvine, Calif., USA), which resulted in resolution of the refractory macular edema and improvement of visual acuity in both cases. Conclusions For refractory macular edema secondary to adult-onset Coats’ disease, measurement of the levels of VEGF and inflammatory cytokines can help clinic doctors precisely investigate the molecular mechanism of macular edema and thereby find a suitable treatment.

Abstract Background Ever since Darwin, evolutionary biologists have studied sexual selection driving differences in appearance and behaviour between males and females. An unchallenged paradigm in such studies is that one sex (usually the male) signals its quality as a mate to the other sex (usually the female), who is choosy in accepting a partner. Here, we hypothesize that in polygamous species these roles change dynamically with the mating status of males and females, depending on direct reproductive costs and benefits of multiple matings, and on sperm competition. We test this hypothesis by assessing fitness costs and benefits of multiple matings in both males and females in a polygamous moth species, as in moths not males but females are the signalers and males are the responders. Results We found that multiple matings confer fitness costs and benefits for both sexes. Specifically, the number of matings did not affect the longevity of males or females, but only 67% of the males and 14% of the females mated successfully in all five nights. In addition, the female’s reproductive output increased with multiple matings, although when paired with a new virgin male every night, more than 3 matings decreased her reproductive output, so that the Bateman gradient for females fit a quadratic model better than a linear model. The male’s reproductive success was positively affected by the number of matings and a linear regression line best fit the data. Simulations of the effect of sperm competition showed that increasing last-male paternity increases the steepness of the male Bateman gradient and thus the male’s relative fitness gain from additional mating. Irrespective of last-male paternity value, the female Bateman gradient is steeper than the male one for up to three matings. Conclusion Our results suggest that choosiness in moths may well change throughout the mating season, with males being more choosy early in the season and females being more choosy after having mated at least three times. This life-history perspective on the costs and benefits of multiple matings for both sexes sheds new light on sexual selection forces acting on sexual signals and responses.

BackgroundHigh salt diet is one of the important risk factors of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. Increasingly strong evidence supports epigenetic mechanisms' significant role in hypertension. We aimed to explore associations of epigenetics with high salt diet, salt sensitivity (SS), and SS hypertension.MethodsWe conducted a dietary intervention study of chronic salt loading in 339 subjects from northern China in 2004 and divided the subjects into different salt sensitivity phenotypes. A total of 152 participants were randomly selected from the same cohort for follow-up in 2018 to explore the effect of a high-salt diet on serum monomethylation of H3K4 (H3K4me1), histone methyltransferase Set7, and lysine-specific demethylase 1 (LSD-1).ResultsAmong SS individuals, the blood pressure (SBP: 140.8 vs. 132.9 mmHg; MAP: 104.2 vs. 98.7 mmHg) and prevalence of hypertension (58.8 vs. 32.8%) were significantly higher in high salt (HS) diet group than in normal salt (NS) diet group, but not in the salt-resistant (SR) individuals (P > 0.05). Serum H3K4me1 level (287.3 vs. 179.7 pg/ml, P < 0.05) significantly increased in HS group of SS individuals, but not in SR individuals. We found daily salt intake in SS individuals was positively correlated with serum H3K4me1 (r = 0.322, P = 0.005) and Set7 (r = 0.340, P = 0.005) levels after adjusting for age and gender, but not with LSD-1 (r = −0.137, P = 0.251). In addition, positive correlation between the serum H3K4me1 level and Set7 level (r = 0.326, P = 0.007) was also found in SS individuals. These correlations were not evident in SR individuals.ConclusionOur study indicates that high salt diet increases the serum H3K4me1 and Set7 levels in SS individuals.

Summary: Background: Little is known about the association between sarcopenia and cardiovascular disease (CVD) among middle-aged and older adults. Using the nationally representative data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), we conducted cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses to investigate the association between sarcopenia status and CVD in middle-aged and older Chinese population. Methods: The sample comprised 15,137 participants aged at least 45 years from the CHARLS 2015. Sarcopenia status was defined according to the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 (AWGS 2019) criteria. CVD was defined as the presence of physician-diagnosed heart disease and/or stroke. A total of 11,863 participants without CVD were recruited from the CHARLS 2015 and were followed up in 2018. Cox proportional hazards regression models were conducted to examine the effect of sarcopenia on CVD. Findings: The pre valence of CVD in total populations, no-sarcopenia, possible sarcopenia and sarcopenia individuals were 12.6% (1905/15,137), 10.0% (1026/10,280), 18.1% (668/3685), 18.0% (211/1172), respectively. Both possible sarcopenia [OR (95% CI): 1.29 (1.13–1.48)] and sarcopenia [1.72 (1.40–2.10)] were associated with CVD in total populations. During the 3.6 years of follow-up, 1,273 cases (10.7%) with incident CVD were identified. In the longitudinal analysis, individuals with the diagnosis of possible sarcopenia (HR:1.22, 95% CI: 1.05–1.43) and sarcopenia participants (HR:1.33, 95% CI: 1.04–1.71) were more likely to have new onset CVD than no-sarcopenia peers. Interpretation: Both possible sarcopenia and sarcopenia, assessed using the AWGS 2019 criteria, were associated with higher CVD risk among middle-aged and older Chinese adults. Funding: None.

A good bolt support structure effectively enhances the strength of the surrounding rock. Bolt support monitoring provides a basis for modifying and improving the design of this structure and enables safety hazards to be identified so that safe production can continue. A bolt fiber Bragg grating (FBG) stress sensor is developed based on FBG sensor technology, providing a data-driven analysis tool for monitoring the bolt stress in the working face. Continuous dynamic monitoring of the internal force distribution in a high-precision roadway bolt support structure is achieved through strict laboratory calibration, thus enabling comprehensive safety monitoring. Furthermore, the anchor FBG stress sensor is used to analyze the real-time stress variations in a bolt support structure during excavation. The results reveal the security evolution characteristics of bolts buried in shallow bedrocks and show that the security state varies with location (i.e., the roof, roadside, apex between roof and roadside, and apex between roadside and floor) and depth.

ObjectiveRenalase, a novel secretory flavoprotein with amine oxidase activity, is secreted into the blood by the kidneys and is hypothesized to participate in blood pressure (BP) regulation. We investigated the associations of renalase with BP and the risk of hypertension by examining renalase single nucleopeptide polymorphism (SNPs), serum renalase levels, and renal expression of renalase in humans.Methods① Subjects (n = 514) from the original Baoji Salt-Sensitive Study cohort were genotyped to investigate the association of renalase SNPs with longitudinal BP changes and the risk of hypertension during 14 years of follow-up. ② Two thousand three hundred and ninety two participants from the Hanzhong Adolescent Hypertension Study cohort were used to examine the association of serum renalase levels with hypertension. Renalase expression in renal biopsy specimens from 193 patients were measured by immunohistochemistry. ③ Renalase expression was compared in hypertensive vs. normotensive patients.Results① SNP rs7922058 was associated with 14-year change in systolic BP, and rs10887800, rs796945, rs1935582, rs2296545, and rs2576178 were significantly associated with 14-year change in diastolic BP while rs1935582 and rs2576178 were associated with mean arterial pressure change over 14 years. In addition, SNPs rs796945, rs1935582, and rs2576178 were significantly associated with hypertension incidence. Gene-based analysis found that renalase gene was significantly associated with hypertension incidence over 14-year follow-up after adjustment for multiple measurements. ② Hypertensive subjects had higher serum renalase levels than normotensive subjects (27.2 ± 0.4 vs. 25.1 ± 0.2 μg/mL). Serum renalase levels and BPs showed a linear correlation. In addition, serum renalase was significantly associated with the risk of hypertension [OR = 1.018 (1.006–1.030)]. ③ The expression of renalase in human renal biopsy specimens significantly decreased in hypertensive patients compared to non-hypertensive patients (0.030 ± 0.001 vs. 0.038 ± 0.004).ConclusionsThese findings indicate that renalase may play an important role in BP progression and development of hypertension.

Recently, industrial robots are mostly used in many areas because of their high dexterity and low price. Nevertheless, the low performance of robot stiffness is the primary limiting factor in machining applications. In this paper, a new method for identifying the joint stiffness of serial robots. The method considers the coupling of the end-effector’s rotational and translational displacements. Then, a new criterion is presented for optimizing the robot configuration. Next, the influence of each joint on the criterion is analyzed, and the corresponding joint is selected to simplify the experiment. After that, the method’s robustness, the sensitivity of the number of tests, and the experimental errors are analyzed. Finally, the KUKA KR60-3 robot is used as a descriptive example.

The hard rock stratum will seriously affect the efficiency of deep-sea drilling and greatly increase the cost of drilling operations due to its complexity. In ocean drilling operations, the design of the bit is critical. Therefore, the core bit should be able to drill in a variety of formations, especially in hard rock stratum, with the function of reducing the need to change the bit due to formation changes and improving the drilling efficiency. In this paper, three different core bits were designed according to the hard rock stratum of the seabed: the roller bit, diamond bit and bionic bit. According to the test results, it was observed that: (1) It is fully proven that the roller core bit has the characteristics of stable drilling in hard strata, small torque and high drilling efficiency. The same method can realize the core in shallow soft strata through the setting of drilling parameters. (2) For the diamond bit, the field test data show that the new formula diamond bit has a good adaptability to the changing hard rock strata in this area, with an average rate of penetration (ROP) of 4.4 m/h and a bit life of 137.75 m. (3) For the bionic bit, field experiment data showed that drilling in the formation lithology was gray green tuff, which had a core recovery up to 100%. The average ROP was 1.35 m/h, and the highest ROP was 1.88 m/h. The design and experiment of three kinds of drill bits have effectively solved the technical problem of efficient drilling in deep-sea hard-rock stratum.

After long-term oxidation and energy storage, broken coal body borehole walls and drainage shaft walls may cause spontaneous combustion during gas extraction. The high-temperature thermal shock caused by the spontaneous combustion of coal incurs thermal damage on adjacent coal, which, in turn, causes changes in the mechanical properties of the coal. However, only a few studies have been conducted in this context, which has limited our understanding of the thermal damage characteristics of coal bodies in such situations. This study aimed to experimentally investigate the correlation between the crack evolution law and the mechanical properties of coal bodies at different temperatures (50-300°C) using heat-force loading considering Ping Mei No. 10 coal mine as the research object. The results suggest that the coal body experiences a large amount of visible damage, and becomes increasingly complex. At 50-300°C, some indexes (such as longitudinal wave velocity, Poisson's ratio, compressive strength, elastic modulus, impact energy index, and pre-peak strain) are positively correlated with temperature. In addition, the dynamic failure time and temperature show a negative correlation, and the overall change slope is small. The relationship between each index and temperature at 200-300°C is opposite to that at 50-200°C, and the overall change slope is larger. Moreover, when the oxidation temperature exceeds 200°C, the destruction of the coal body changes from elastic brittleness to ductility-plasticity. High-temperature oxidation incurs irreversible thermal damage of coal. Hence, it is necessary to focus on the changes in mechanical properties of coal after a spontaneous combustion process is extinguished.

An explosion with a discontinuous gas supply (DGS-explosion) is more complicated than a common secondary explosion. We present the results of a study on the propagation laws of the DGS-explosion induced by a gas explosion in excavation roadways. A rectangular tube was established using ANSYS, similar to an excavation roadway in an underground coal mine. The gas, flame, and shock wave propagation laws were determined by analyzing the explosive gas as it exited the excavation roadway. The results show that the initial explosion caused the flame generated in the DGS-explosion to be significantly stretched. Moreover, the shock wave was reflected by the end of the tube, which resulted in the reverse migration of the local gas after the DGS-explosion. Meanwhile, with the increase in local gas concentrations, the pressure peak and the entire explosion system can increase after the DGS-explosion. The flame region, temperature peak, and flame irregularity in the tube positively correlate with the concentration. These results can provide theoretical support and an experimental basis for preventing and responding to accidents caused by gas explosion accidents.

This study aimed to reveal the impact of the severe drying-wetting process on the safety and stability of high-altitude dumps. Numerical calculations were conducted for the open mining dump of limestone mines for cement in high-altitude mining areas. The distribution law equation of the matric suction and the shear strength equation were imported for unsaturated soil based on the unsaturated-saturated seepage theory. Therefore, the evolution characteristics of the unsaturated-saturated seepage field and the stability of the dump were studied under severe drying-wetting. The results indicated the following rules: As the intensity of the wetting-drying alternation increased, the surface soil on the dump changed from an unsaturated to a saturated state, the matric suction continued to decrease until it reached zero, the shear strength decreased, and the unsaturated area shrank. The dump slipped under the influence of the drying-wetting alternation, the sliding area was the dump itself, and developed to the deep layer as the intensity of the drying-wetting alternation strengthened. The cumulative settlement value of the dump increased with time and eventually stabilized, and the maximum accumulative settlement value calculated by simulation was in good agreement with the actual monitoring value. The safety factor decreased as the intensity of the drying-wetting alternation increased.

In the construction of mountain tunnels, the increasing proportion of hard rock stratum enhances the difficulty of rock breaking by tunnel boring machine (TBM). As a type of cyclic load with ultrahigh frequency, ultrasonic vibration has the advantages of energy concentration and strong penetration. In the process of rolling and extrusion, the weakening of the rock by ultrahigh-frequency loading can improve the rock crushing efficiency of the TBM disc cutter. In this study, we established a physical model of rock cutting using a disc cutter assisted by ultrasonic vibration and obtained a motion equation. The discrete element software particle flow code (PFC) was selected to construct a heterogeneous granite model to demonstrate the mechanism and development of cracks inside the hard rock under a rolling disc cutter assisted by ultrasonic vibration. The results demonstrate that ultrasonic vibration helps the disc cutter construct a stronger stress field in the shallow layer, which promotes tensile damage of the surface rock. Vibration promotes the development of cracks inside the rock and accelerates the penetration of transverse cracks, which is conducive to the stripping of rock fragments. The addition of ultrahigh-frequency loading also reduces the fluctuation increase of cracks, which makes the operation state of the disc cutter more stable and avoids abnormal damage to tools.

In recent years, ultrasonic vibration rock-breaking technology has aroused great interest in tunnel excavation and underground mineral. To apply this technology to practical engineering, it is necessary to compare the difference between cumulative damage and crack propagation of rock under static load and ultrahigh frequency alternating load. Numerical simulation and laboratory experimental methods were used in this paper to study the damage and fracture characteristics of rock under static loading and ultrasonic vibration. The variation laws of rock infrared temperature characteristics, porosity and compressive strength under different ultrasonic static loads were studied. The discrete element model of rock under ultrasonic vibration was established, and the numerical simulation was carried out by PFC2D software. We designed the ultrasonic rotary drilling device to verify the drilling effect. The process and mechanism of rock fragmentation under static load and ultrasonic vibration load were analyzed from the perspective of energy. Numerical simulation and experimental results showed that the combination of static load and ultrasonic vibration accelerates the failure speed of rock sample. The thermal infrared temperature characteristic test showed that the rock-breaking process under ultrasonic load and static load has three stages: stage I, elastic deformation and the temperature rises linearly; stage II, the development of microcrack and the temperature is further increased uniformly, and stage III, macrobreaking and rock chips falling off, and the temperature fluctuates sharply. There is a minimum threshold value for the promotion of static loading to break rock by ultrasonic vibration. Only when the static load is greater than 200 N, the crack propagation will occur in the rock sample. At this time, with the increase of static load, the crack propagation will further intensify, and the rock-breaking effect is more obvious. Under the same weight on bit (WOB), the penetration of rotary ultrasonic drilling can be increased by 13.93% ∼ 38.11% compared with conventional rotary drilling.

Per- and poly-fluorinated substances (PFASs) with endocrine disrupting effect can efficiently transfer across the blood-follicle barrier. However, it is still controversial and attracting extensive public concern that whether PFASs can affect the human fertility potential. Therefore, we aimed to analyze the associations of women’s exposure to PFASs with pregnancy loss, the relevant processes of fertilization, zygote implantation, and embryo development by using a prospective cohort study. The women undergoing in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) treatment were recruited in Beijing City (Beijing Center) and Yantai City (Yantai Center) in China during 2015–2017. A total of 305 women were recruited before the IVF-ET treatment. Twelve PFASs were measured in their serum samples collected in the day before the IVF-ET treatment, as well as in the human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) day. The three IVF-ET outcomes were included, i.e. hCG test negative, clinical pregnancy failure (CPF), and preclinical spontaneous abortion. Nine serum PFASs had detection rate of >70% in Beijing and Yantai centers. The exposure patterns to PFASs between these two centers were overall different. For Beijing Center, we only found a positive association of perflurodecanoic acid (PFDA) with the risk of CPF [RR = 2.28 (95 %CI: 1.02–5.11)], but there is a reverse trend in Yantai Center with [RR = 0.45 (95 %CI: 0.23–0.85)]. However, the serum concentration of PFDA in Beijing Center was relatively lower than that of Yantai Center. Other significant associations of the detected PFASs with the IVF-ET outcomes, or with the relevant clinical processes, were not found. The multi-pollutant regression model of the Bayesian kernel machine regression suggested that there were no joint effects between various PFASs on the concerned outcomes. Overall, we suggest that most PFAS were not associated with early pregnancy loss at the current exposure levels. As for the PFDA, there may exist susceptibility of different populations.

Background: Uromodulin, also named Tamm Horsfall protein, has been associated with renal function and regulation of sodium homeostasis. We aimed to examine the associations of serum uromodulin levels and its genetic variants with longitudinal blood pressure (BP) changes and hypertension incidence/risk.Methods: A total of 514 participants from the original Baoji Salt-Sensitive Study cohort were genotyped to examine the associations of genetic variations in uromodulin gene with the longitudinal BP changes and the incidence of hypertension over 8 years of follow-up. In addition, 2,210 subjects from the cohort of Hanzhong Adolescent Hypertension Study were used to investigate the relationships between serum uromodulin levels and the risk of hypertension.Results: SNPs rs12917707 and rs12708631 in the uromodulin gene were significantly associated with the longitudinal BP changes over 8 years of follow-up. SNP rs12708631 was significantly associated with the incidence of hypertension over 8 years. In addition, gene-based analyses supported the associations of uromodulin gene with the longitudinal BP changes and hypertension incidence in Baoji Salt-Sensitive Study cohort. Furthermore, serum uromodulin levels in the hypertensive subjects were lower than in the normotensive subjects (25.5 ± 1.1 vs. 34.7 ± 0.7 ng/mL). Serum uromodulin levels decreased gradually as BP levels increased (34.6, 33.2, 27.8, and 25.0 ng/mL for subjects with normotension, high-normal, grade 1 hypertension, and grade 2 hypertension, respectively). Serum uromodulin was significantly associated with the lower risk of hypertension [0.978 (0.972–0.984)] in Hanzhong Adolescent Hypertension Study cohort.Conclusion: This study shows that uromodulin is associated with blood pressure progression and development of hypertension.

Background: Little is known about whether sarcopenia predicts incident depressive symptoms in older adults. Using the nationally representative data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), we conducted cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses to estimate the association between sarcopenia and depressive symptoms among older adults.Methods: The sample comprised 7,706 participants aged at least 60 years (50.6% women; mean age 68.0 ± 6.5) from the CHARLS 2015. Based on the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 (AWGS 2019) criteria, sarcopenia status was classified into three types: no-sarcopenia, possible sarcopenia, and sarcopenia. Depressive symptoms were assessed using the validated 10-items of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale. A cross-sectional analysis was used to examine the relationship between sarcopenia status and depressive symptoms. A total of 4,652 participants without depressive symptoms were recruited from the same cohort in 2015 and were followed up in 2018. Cox proportional hazards regression models were conducted to examine the effect of sarcopenia status on subsequent depressive symptoms with the report of hazard ratio (HR).Results: The prevalence of depressive symptoms in total populations, no-sarcopenia, possible sarcopenia, and sarcopenia individuals were 27.1% (2085/7706), 21.5% (927/4310), 33.6% (882/2627), and 35.9% (276/769), respectively. Both possible sarcopenia (OR: 1.75, 95% CI: 1.46–2.10) and sarcopenia (OR: 1.64, 95% CI: 1.23–2.19) were positively associated with higher odds of depressive symptoms (all p < 0.01). During the 3.7 years of follow-up, 956 cases (20.6%) with incident depressive symptoms were identified. In the longitudinal analysis, individuals with the diagnosed possible sarcopenia (HR: 1.27, 95% CI: 1.01–1.58) and sarcopenia participants (HR: 1.49, 95% CI: 1.06–2.09) were more likely to have new onset depressive symptoms than no-sarcopenia peers.Conclusions: Both possible sarcopenia and sarcopenia, assessed using the AWGS 2019 criteria, were independent predictors for the occurrence of depressive symptoms among Chinese older adults. Our findings provided new evidence supporting the longitudinal connection between sarcopenia and mental health problems, it also provides further justification for timely identification and management of both possible sarcopenia and sarcopenia as part of comprehensive strategies to fight against depressive symptoms.

The internal structures are the key to understand the surface evolution of the Moon. However, the study of such kind is absent. In this study, the Chang'e-2 microwave radiometer data are employed to explore the internal structures in the highlands of the western lunar farside combined with the FeO+TiO2 abundance data and the rock abundance data. The results are as follows. First, a new view on the cratering mechanism is proposed according to the brightness temperature (TB) performances and the estimated rock abundances in King, Bruno, and Necho craters. Second, the influential mechanism of the rocks on the TB is initially identified by the thermal anomalies at noon and night. Third, a special hidden hot anomaly centered at (109.4°E, 6.9°N) northwest to King crater is revealed by the 3.0 GHz map at noon and night but its causes are still unclear. Fourth, the cause of the belt anomaly from Bruno crater to Necho crater has likely resulted from the impact ejecta of King crater. Finally, the highlands in the study area are divided into four units with distinct TB performances. Generally, the TB maps show a different view compared with the optical and thermal infrared data, which is important to improve understanding the surface evolution of the Moon.

Converting CO2 into fuels via solar-driven thermochemical cycles of metal oxides is promising to address global climate change and energy crisis challenges simultaneously. However, it suffers from low energy conversion efficiency (ηen) due to high sensible heat losses when swinging between reduction and oxidation cycles, and a single product of fuels can hardly meet multiple kinds of energy demands. Here, we propose an alternative way to upsurge energy conversion efficiency by integrating solar thermochemical CO2 splitting with a supercritical CO2 thermodynamic cycle. When gas phase heat recovery (εgg) is equal to 0.9, the highest energy conversion efficiency of 20.4% is obtained at the optimal cycle high pressure of 260 bar. In stark contrast, the highest energy conversion efficiency is only 9.8% for conventional solar thermochemical CO2 splitting without including a supercritical CO2 cycle. The superior performance is attributed to efficient harvesting of waste heat and synergy of CO2 splitting cycles with supercritical CO2 cycles. This work provides alternative routes for promoting the development and deployment of solar thermochemical CO2 splitting techniques.

Owing to the outstanding sensing properties, especially high sensitivity and large stretchability, flexible piezoresistive strain sensors are advantageous for achieving intelligent sensing and have become a popular topic in the field of civil structural health monitoring (SHM). To explore advanced flexible strain sensors for civil SHM, this paper summarizes the recent research progress, achievements and challenges in flexible piezoresistive strain sensors. First, four common piezoresistive mechanisms are introduced theoretically. Sensor materials, including conductive materials, flexible substrates and electrodes, are explained in detail. Second, essential sensing parameters are interpreted and then followed by specific explanations of improvement strategies for the sensor performance in terms of each parameter. Third, applications of flexible piezoresistive strain sensors in the deformation measurement and damage detection of steel structures, concrete structures and fiber-reinforced composite structures are presented. Existing challenges and prospects in the practical application and large-scale production of flexible strain sensors are also reported. Last but not least, strategies for the selection of piezoresistive sensors for civil SHM are explained.

Biochar as a soil amendment has been regarded as a promising way to improve soil fertility. However, the response of microbial community after biochar and biochar compound fertilizer (BCF) application has not been thoroughly elucidated. This study evaluated the changes in abundance and composition of bacterial and fungal communities using quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) and Illumina MiSeq amplicon sequencing. The field experiment ran for 3 years and comprised five treatments: chemical fertilizer as control (CK), straw-returning combined with chemical fertilizer (CS), low biochar application combined with chemical fertilizer (LB), high biochar application combined with chemical fertilizer (HB) and BCF. The results showed that biochar amendment results no changes in the abundance and diversity of bacteria in the bulk and rhizosphere soils. However, the abundance of soil fungi was significantly increased by biochar amendment (LB and HB). LB treatment significantly increased the fungal alpha diversity, while there was no significant change under HB. Furthermore, the dominant bacterial phyla found in the samples were Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Acidobacteria. Biochar addition increased the relative abundance of Actinobacteria in both bulk and rhizosphere soils. The dominant fungal phyla were Ascomycota, Mortierellomycota, and Basidiomycota. The relative abundance of Ascomycota significantly decreased, but Mortierellomycota significantly increased in LB and HB. In addition, redundancy analysis indicated that the changes in bacterial and fungal communities are associated with soil properties such as SOC and TN, which are crucial contributors in regulating the community composition. This study is expected to provide significant theoretical and practical knowledge for the application of biochar in agricultural ecosystem.

Compared with inorganic photovoltaic technologies, flexibility is the most prominent feature of organic solar cells (OSCs). Flexible OSCs have been considered as one of the most promising directions in the OSC field, and have drawn tremendous attention in recent years. However, the power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of flexible OSCs still lag behind those of their rigid counterparts. To further improve the performance of flexible OSCs, it is of great necessity for synergistic efforts to optimize flexible transparent electrodes (FTEs), photoactive materials, electrode buffer layers, and device structure engineering. Herein, the recent progress in flexible OSCs from the perspective of FTEs, including indium tin oxides, carbon nanomaterials, conducting polymers, silver nanowires, and ultrathin metal films and metal meshes, is summarized. In addition, the photoactive materials and electrode buffer layers in flexible OSCs are discussed to reveal the effects of material engineering and interface modification. Finally, a discussion of the future outlook and challenges of flexible OSCs is presented.

Seismic interferometry is often proposed as a cost-efficient technique for reservoir monitoring including CO2 sequestration due to its low cost and environmental advantages over active source imaging. Although many studies have demonstrated the ability of seismic interferometry to retrieve surface waves, body wave imaging remains challenging due to their generally lower amplitudes of body waves in seismic interferometry data. An optimum data acquisition strategy can help retrieve low amplitude body waves better, however, rare attempts have been made to evaluate various data acquisition strategies. In this study, we use numerical modeling to examine three different acquisition schemes to evaluate the retrievability of P waves from seismic interferometry data. From our numerical results, we observe that (1) positing receivers beneath the attenuated weathered layer improves the data quality and signal to noise ratio, but additional processing steps including predictive deconvolution and Radom transform filter are necessary to remove the downgoing surface multiples, artifacts that are generated from this data acquisition; (2) vertical seismic profiling (VSP) alongside with the conventional surface seismic acquisition improve the target zone detection; and (3) crosswell acquisition of seismic interferometry is an ineffective means to obtain reflection events due to the non-similarity of ray paths from the noise sources meaning that the required stationary phase theory is not fulfilled.

In this paper, the edge strain relaxation of InGaN/GaN MQW micro-pillars is studied. Micro-pillar arrays with a diameter of 3–20 μm were prepared on a blue GaN LED wafer by inductively coupled plasma (ICP) etching. The peak wavelength shift caused by edge strain relaxation was tested using micro-LED pillar array room temperature photoluminescence (PL) spectrum measurements. The results show that there is a nearly 3 nm peak wavelength shift between the micro-pillar arrays, caused by a high range of the strain relaxation region in the small size LED pillar. Furthermore, a 19 μm micro-LED pillar’s Raman spectrum was employed to observe the pillar strain relaxation. It was found that the Raman E2H mode at the edge of the micro-LED pillar moved to high frequency, which verified an edge strain relaxation of = 0.1%. Then, the exact strain and peak wavelength distribution of the InGaN quantum wells were simulated by the finite element method, which provides effective verification of our PL and Raman strain relaxation analysis. The results and methods in this paper provide good references for the design and analysis of small-size micro-LED devices.

This paper is devoted to solving the problem of how to comprehensively control coal seam gas and hydrogen sulfide in the mining face, distributed from the coal seam in abandoned oil wells in coal mining resource areas. The abandoned oil wells of Ma tan 30 and Ma tan 31 in the No. I0104105 working face of the Shuang Ma Coal Mine were taken as examples. Through parameter testing, gas composition analysis, field investigation at the source distribution, and the influence range of gas and hydrogen sulfide in coal seam in the affected range of the abandoned oil wells were studied. The results show that the coal-bearing strata in Shuang Ma coal field belong to the coal–oil coexistence strata, and the emission of H2S gas in the local area of the working face is mainly affected by closed and abandoned oil wells. Within the influence range of the abandoned oil wells, along the direction of the working face, the concentration of CH4 and H2S gas in the borehole increases as you move closer to the coal center, and the two sides of the oil well show a decreasing trend. In the affected area of the abandoned oil well, the distribution of the desorption gas content in coal seam along the center distance of the oil well presents a decreasing trend in power function, particularly the closer the working face is to the center of the oil well. The higher the concentration of CH4 and H2S, the lower the concentration when the working face moves further away from the oil well. The influence radius of CH4 and H2S gas on the coal seam in the affected area of Ma tan 31 abandoned oil well is over 300 m. The results provide a theoretical basis for further understanding the law of gas and hydrogen sulfide enrichment in the mining face and the design of treatment measures within the influence range of abandoned oil wells.

Timber linings are applied as primary supports in the tunnel fault and fracture zones of mines. These linings are essential to prevent broken rock from falling during the occurrence of exogenous fires. In this study, experiments and numerical simulations were carried out using a fire dynamics simulator to investigate the flame-spread rate, flame characteristics, smoke movement, and spread process of timber-lining fires under different wind speeds of 0, 0.25, 0.5, and 0.75 m/s. It was found that cross-section flame spreading follows the three-stage sidewall-ceiling-sidewall pattern. Moreover, the average flame-spread rate increases along the vertical flame-spreading direction and decreases when the flame reaches the timber-lining corners. Moreover, the flame lengths underneath the timber-lining ceiling in the x-direction are longer than those in the y-direction. As the wind speed increases, the normalized flame lengths R(f) in the two directions decrease, and the maximum temperature underneath the ceiling decreases. In addition, the maximum temperature in the three tunnel sections of interest is first recorded in the tunnel cross-section in the initial fire stage. Higher wind speeds correspond to farther distances of the maximum-temperature points of the three timber-lining sections from the fire source.

Renal function estimated by various biomarkers predicting for adverse cardiovascular events has not been well-identified in received percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for chronic total occlusion (CTO), the advanced stages of atherosclerosis. We aim to determine whether the serum cystatin C-based-estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) can have an improved predictive value in patients with CTO lesions undergoing PCI as compared with multiple creatinine-based estimates of kidney function. Six hundred and seventy-one patients received CTO PCI were retrospectively included in the study. The eGFR was calculated by modification of diet in renal disease equation for Chinese (cMDRD) and Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) equations at baseline, respectively. Then, the cohort was categorized into three groups according to standard KDIGO kidney stages based on eGFR. The primary endpoint was all-cause mortality, and the secondary endpoint was cardiac death. Strikingly, cystatin C-based eGFR showed a better performance with the greater area being under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (0.73 for all-cause mortality and 0.73 for cardiac death, separately) and a better assessment for survival free from adverse event across renal levels among four eGFR equations. Compared with eGFR calculated by other formulas, serum cystatin C-based eGFR showed the highest prognostic value for both all-cause mortality (adjusted HR 3.6, 95% CI 1.6–8.1, P = 0.002) and cardiac death (adjusted HR 2.9, 95% CI 1.0–8.1, P = 0.028). Moreover, cystatin C-based eGFR significantly improved the risk reclassification of event with a high value of net reclassification improvement and integrated discrimination improvement. This study may prove that cystatin C-based eGFR is a better predictor of both all-cause mortality and cardiac death than other equations in populations with CTO undergoing PCI.

To control the gas accumulation and spontaneous combustion in goafs of coal mines, many measures such as airflow volume at the working face, gas extraction, and nitrogen injection in goafs have been taken. However, the principles of these measures contradict when controlling two hazards simultaneously. It is necessary to understand how the flow field in goafs is influenced by these measures. In this study, a mathematical model of the flow field in a goaf behind a u-type mechanized working face is established using the theory of porous media. The flow field in a goaf with the risk of gas accidents and spontaneous combustion was analyzed for different controlling measures. Taking the Daxing coal mine in Liaoning Province as an example, the main parameters, such as airflow volume, gas extraction, and nitrogen injection, were optimized based on the simulation results. These results are of great significance for the coupled control of gas accumulation and spontaneous combustion in goafs of coal mines.

Fires caused by cables occur frequently in mines, which endanger the safety of workers. To explore the characteristics of a multilayer cable fire in a mine tunnel, multilayer cable fire simulations were carried out using the Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS). The influence of cable tray spacing, ignition position, and tunnel ventilation speed on the characteristics of the fire were studied. The results showed that these factors change the amount of contact between the cable and air, the heat accumulation, and the heat transfer by the flame interaction between the cables. It was also noted that increasing the spacing or wind speed both made the peak of heat release rate (PHRR) initially increase and then decrease. The influence of wind speed on the cable burnout rate in the upstream and downstream sides of the fire source was not consistent, and the wind speed had a sensitive effect on the cable burn out rate in the upstream side of the fire source. The higher the ignition position was, the longer the arrival time of PHRR was and the slower the fire developed. There was a higher burn velocity close to the ceiling. The cable hooks obstructed the cable fire. This study provides a theoretical basis for cable fire prevention and control in mine tunnels.

The accurate and reliable monitoring of ventilation parameters is key to intelligent ventilation systems. In order to realize the visualization of airflow, it is essential to solve the airflow reconstruction problem using few sensors. In this study, a new concept called independent cut set that depends on the structure of the underlying graph is presented to determine the minimum number and location of sensors. We evaluated its effectiveness in a coal mine owned by Jinmei Corporation Limited (Jinmei Co., Ltd., Shanghai, China). Our results indicated that fewer than 30% of tunnels needed to have wind speed sensors set up to reconstruct the well-posed airflow of all the tunnels (>200 in some mines). The results showed that the algorithm was feasible. The reconstructed air volume of the ventilation network using this algorithm was the same as the actual air volume. The algorithm provides theoretical support for flow reconstruction.

In this paper, a novel path planning algorithm with Reinforcement Learning is proposed based on the topological map. The proposed algorithm has a two-level structure. At the first level, the proposed method generates the topological area using the region dynamic growth algorithm based on the grid map. In the next level, the Multi-SARSA method divided into two layers is applied to find a near-optimal global planning path, in which the artificial potential field method, first of all, is used to initialize the first Q table for faster learning speed, and then the second Q table is initialized with the connected domain obtained by topological map, which provides the prior information. A combination of the two algorithms makes the algorithm easier to converge. Simulation experiments for path planning have been executed. The results indicate that the method proposed in this paper can find the optimal path with a shorter path length, which demonstrates the effectiveness of the presented method.

Abstract Background Drug Combination is one of the effective approaches for treating complex diseases. However, determining combinative drug pairs in clinical trials is still costly. Thus, computational approaches are used to identify potential drug pairs in advance. Existing computational approaches have the following shortcomings: (i) the lack of an effective integration of heterogeneous features leads to a time-consuming training and even results in an over-fitted classifier; and (ii) the narrow consideration of predicting potential drug combinations only among known drugs having known combinations cannot meet the demand of realistic screenings, which pay more attention to potential combinative pairs among newly-coming drugs that have no approved combination with other drugs at all. Results In this paper, to tackle the above two problems, we propose a novel drug-driven approach for predicting potential combinative pairs on a large scale. We define four new features based on heterogeneous data and design an efficient fusion scheme to integrate these feature. Moreover importantly, we elaborate appropriate cross-validations towards realistic screening scenarios of drug combinations involving both known drugs and new drugs. In addition, we perform an extra investigation to show how each kind of heterogeneous features is related to combinative drug pairs. The investigation inspires the design of our approach. Experiments on real data demonstrate the effectiveness of our fusion scheme for integrating heterogeneous features and its predicting power in three scenarios of realistic screening. In terms of both AUC and AUPR, the prediction among known drugs achieves 0.954 and 0.821, that between known drugs and new drugs achieves 0.909 and 0.635, and that among new drugs achieves 0.809 and 0.592 respectively. Conclusions Our approach provides not only an effective tool to integrate heterogeneous features but also the first tool to predict potential combinative pairs among new drugs.
