53. Polyaniline inside the pores of high surface area mesoporous silicon as composite electrode material for supercapacitors

Abstract

Mesoporous silicon (mSi) obtained by the magnesiothermic reduction of mesoporous silica was used to deposit polyaniline (PANI) in its pores, the composite was tested for its charge storage application for high performance supercapacitor electrodes. The mesoporous silica as confirmed by Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) has a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area of 724 m(2)g(-1) and mean pore size of 5 nm. After magnesiothermic reduction to mSi, the BET surface area is reduced to 348 m(2)g(-1) but the mesoporousity is retained with a mean pore size of 10 nm. The BET surface area of mesoporous silicon is among the highest for porous silicon prepared/reduced from silica. In situ polymerization of PANI inside the pores of mSi was achieved by controlling the polymerization conditions. As a supercapacitor electrode, the mSi-PANI composite exhibits better charge storage performance as compared to pure PANI and mesoporous silica-PANI composite electrodes. 55. Decolorization of Remazol Black-B azo dye in soil by fungi

Abstract

Textile industry is known to release huge amount of dyes in the water and soil environments during the dyeingprocess. The present study was planned with the aim to remove azo dye toxicants from the soil using fungal strains.The fungi were isolated by using Remazol Black-B azo dye as the sole source of C and N. Ten isolates were initiallyselected for testing their decolorization potential in the liquid medium. Three most effective strains were used tostudy the decolorization of Remazol Black-B in soil. The strain S4 was found to be very effective in removing thedye Remazol Black-B from liquid medium as well as in soil suspension. More than 95% decolorization by the strainS4 was observed in soil under optimal incubation conditions. Overall, the dye decolorization was maximum at 100mg dye kg-1 soil at pH 7-8 under static conditions. Glucose, moisture and aeration also affected the decolorizationefficacy of the fungal strain in soil. This study implies that fungi could be used for bioremediation of dyecontaminatedsites.

Abstract

TiO2 is seen as a low cost, well-known photocatalyst; nevertheless, its sluggish charge kinetics does limit its applications. To overcome this aspect, one of the recent approaches is the use of its composites with graphene to enhance its photoactivity. Graphene-based materials (nanosheets, quantum dots, etc.) allow for attachment with TiO2 nanostructures, resulting in synergistic properties and thus increasing the functionality of the resulting composite. The current review aims to present the marked progress recently achieved in the use of TiO2/graphene composites in the field of photocatalysis. In this respect, we highlight the progress and insights in TiO2 and graphene composites in photocatalysis, including the basic mechanism of photocatalysis, the possible design strategies of the composites and an overview of how to characterize the graphene in the mixed composites. The use of composites in photocatalysis has also been reviewed, in which the recent literature has opened up more questions related to the reliability, potential, repeatability and connection of photocatalytic mechanisms with the resulting composites. 74. Prevalence of Gastrointestinal Infections in Hostel Residents of Lahore, Pakistan

Abstract

To maintain our good health, properly functioning gastrointestinal (GIT) track is always considered essential. Though in current era, living standards are much improved now but still gut infections are frequently reported around the globe. Because in third world countries, like Pakistan even in big cities people don’t have dietary sources of good quality. That’s why; a survey of randomly selected 10 hostels was conducted to estimate the prevalence of gastrointestinal infections among them. The results showed that mostly sufferers fall in age group of 18-28years and among them, females are more than males. Important causative factors for transmission of enteric pathogens are intake of impure water (in 42% cases), unhygienic food (in 18% cases) and blend of these two (in 33% cases) with major symptoms of abdominal discomfort, acid reflux, nausea and vomiting. But still only 19% gastric patients of hostel take proper medication for cure and rest of other are left untreated either due to lack of awareness or financial constraints. So these issues should be seriously addressed by the authorities to control the frequency of GIT infections among hostilities of Lahore, Pakistan.

Abstract

In this work, the Green's function of order two is used together with Fink's approach in Ostrowski's inequality to represent the difference between the sides of the Sherman's inequality. Čebyšev, Grüss and Ostrowski-type inequalities are used to obtain several bounds of the presented Sherman-type inequality.

Abstract In this paper, we extend some old and give some new refinements of the Jensen-Steffensen inequality. Further, we investigate the log-convexity and the exponential convexity of functionals defined via these inequalities and prove monotonicity property of the generalized Cauchy means obtained via these functionals. Some generalizations of an inequality of Hardy-Littlewood-Pólya are presented. We discuss the n-exponential convexity and log-convexity of the functions associated with the linear functional defined by the generalized inequality and also prove the monotonicity property of the generalized Cauchy means obtained via this functional. Finally, we give several examples of the families of functions for which the results can be applied.

Abstract

Generalizations of some results given in [1] and [5] are presented and it is shown that, after appropriate substitution, one of the results is equivalent to an inequality given in [10]. We also construct new families of exponentially convex functions and Cauchy-type means by looking at linear functionals associated with the obtained inequalities.

In this paper, we prove some inequalities in terms of Gateaux derivatives for convex functions defined on linear spaces and also give improvement of Jensen's inequality. Furthermore, we give applications for norms, mean f-deviations and f-divergence measures.
