Abstract

The study of this research aims to create an immense level of awareness among the youth exposed to such social networking sites and findings will not only bear results as to how adversely and positively is the youth affected by the usage of these sites but also will help the youth to understand the usage of these networking sites efficiently. Facebook, My Space, Twitter, LinkedIn, Skype and Ning are a few such sites that attract maximum of the youth to tune in to them and thereby embodies their own merits and demerits that desperately need to create an actual picture among the youth. It has now become an evident and usual sight to face individuals being insensitive to chat in worshipping places, homes when relatives and guests are around, highways, schools, colleges and social gatherings wherein they are so preoccupied and engrossed into their phones that they do not even bother to look up as to where they are which results in their inability to prioritize as to what is important and what isn’t. Attention has thus been shifted from real to virtual world and visible to invisible friends.

Abstract

Mucormycosis is an opportunistic fungal infection that rarely occurs in immunocompetent individuals. Mucormycosis refers to a serious fungal infection caused by fungi of the order Mucorales. The common clinical presentations of mucormycosis are rhinocerebral, cutaneous, pulmonary, gastrointestinal and disseminated forms. Clinically, most patients with isolated renal mucormycosis present with fever, flank pain, tenderness, hematuria or pyuria. Histopathologic evidence of fungal invasion of the tissues is diagnostic. Early institution of amphotericin-B, combined with nephrectomy offers the best chance for cure. Isolated renal mucormycosis has been seldom reported and is even rarer in children. We present an unusual case of renal mucormycosis in a pediatric patient with no known predisposing factors.

Abstract

Wilms’ tumour (WT) is seldom seen in a neonate and prenatal diagnosis is rare. We present a case of antenatally diagnosed left sided WT with features of hydrops foetalis in a girl baby. Emergency LSCS was done at 34 weeks of gestation for foetal distress. Patient required mechanical ventilation for birth asphyxia and congestive cardiac failure. After stabilization, gross total resection of the tumour was done on day 4 of life. Histopathology HPE confirmed classical WT (stage I). Unfortunately, the patient died on the second postoperative day despite all supportive measures.

94. Synthesis of halogen free flame retardant and its application on polypropylene.

Abstract

The present work is aimed at synthesizing halogen free, ecofriendly phosphorous based flame retardant (FR) for polypropylene (PP). Polypropylene is highly flammable at room temperature and leaves almost no char. The synthesised FR enhances the LOI values of polypropylene and also arrests the antidripping properties of the polymer. However, the breaking strength of flame retardant polypropylene filaments is found to be decreasing with increasing concentration of FR compound. Application of herbals on cotton opens up new avenues for herbal as well as Textile industry i.e. clean room fabrics, as herbal treated garments can be used in medical gown, operation theater fabric etc. Application of wound healing herbals on cotton has a scope in wound healing / wound dressing manufacturing. In order to analyze and explore the possibility of herbal medicine for bandages and wound dressing, various extracts of the colouring / medicinal substances from the different herbals like Amla, Myrobolan, Garlic, Turmeric, Neem, Tulsi, Aloe vera, Henna, Peepal and Banyan leaves were applied on the cotton fabric and their evaluation for the antimicrobial property was carried out.
