In the first part of this study, the inclination-dependent effects on a single fibre embedded in 3D printable strain hardening cementitious composite are studied. Two distinct failure modes (i.e., slipping rupture and complete pull-out) were found in the experimental results. Based on these failure modes two separate slip-hardening factors have been determined and analysed with an analytical fibre pull-out model. The second part of the study focused on the influence of multiple fibres with varying inclination angles on single- and multiple-cracking specimens. These tests have been performed for specimens that were casted and printed, to analyse the effect on ductility due to the extrusion process. Three orthogonal directions were examined within the printed specimens during testing. The amount of energy dissipated during the crack opening is strongly orientation-dependent for 3DP-SHCC and does not significantly increase in the main printing direction compared to casted SHCC. Furthermore, the orientation-dependent ductility is evaluated in bending with the use of a 4PB test. Allowing multiple layers of fibre-reinforced material to become active at the same time. The strain hardening effect found in a single crack is amplified by the material's capability to develop multiple cracks, ultimately leading to a significant increase in its impact on engineering applications related to bending. Interventricular septum defects are a known complication after an aortic valve replacement, but not after mitral surgery. We present a case of a 65-year-old female who underwent unsuccessful mitral valvuloplasty through port-access surgery, followed by uneventful mechanical bioprosthesis replacement. Postoperatively, the patient experienced multiple arrhythmias and recovered poorly. A systolic murmur led to echocardiography, showing an interventricular septum rupture. This was closed with 2 polypropylene pledgeted mattress sutures, via the right atrium and tricuspid valve through midsternal access. The authors believe that the most likely cause is tearing of 2 deeply placed adjacent sutures in the septum, creating localized weakening of the septum susceptible to further rupture. We therefore underline the importance of adequate exposure, especially at the notorious anterior annulus. Known complications after mitral valvuloplasty or valve replacement are death, resternotomy for bleeding/tamponade, myocardial infarction, stroke, infection, atrial fibrillation, prosthetic endocarditis, thromboembolism, paravalvular leak (PVL) and prosthesis failure [1]. Backgrounds: Locally invasive T4 rectal cancer often requires neoadjuvant treatment followed by multi‐visceral surgery to achieve a radical resection (R0), and referral to a specialized exenteration quaternary centre is typically recommended. The aim of this study was to explore regional variance in treatment and outcomes of patients with locally advanced rectal cancer in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). Methods: Data were collected from the Bi‐National Colorectal Cancer Audit (BCCA) database. Rectal cancer patients treated between 2007 and 2019 were divided into six groups based on region (state/country) using patient postcode. A subset analysis of patients with T4 cancer was performed. Primary outcomes were positive circumferential resection margin (CRM+), and positive circumferential and/or distal resection margin (CRM/DRM+). Results: A total of 9385 patients with rectal cancer were identified, with an overall CRM+ rate of 6.4% and CRM/DRM+ rate of 8.6%. There were 1350 patients with T4 rectal cancer (14.4%). For these patients, CRM+ rate was 18.5%, and CRM/DRM+ rate was 24.1%. Significant regional variation in CRM+ (range 13.4–26.0%; p = 0.025) and CRM/DRM+ rates (range 16.1–29.3%; p = 0.005) was identified. In addition, regions with higher CRM+ and CRM/DRM+ rates reported lower rates of multi‐visceral resections: range 24.3–26.8%, versus 32.6–37.3% for regions with lower CRM+ and CRM/DRM+ rates (p < 0.0001). Conclusion: Positive resection margins and rates of multi‐visceral resection vary between the different regions of ANZ. A small subset of patients with T4 rectal cancer are particularly at risk, further supporting the concept of referral to specialized exenteration centres for potentially curative multi‐visceral resection. Starting antiretroviral therapy (ART) in Fiebig 1 acute HIV infection limits the size of viral reservoirs in lymphoid tissues, but does not impact time to virus rebound during a treatment interruption. To better understand why the reduced reservoir size did not increase the time to rebound we measured the frequency and location of HIV RNA+ cells in lymph nodes from participants in the RV254 acute infection cohort. HIV RNA+ cells were detected more frequently and in greater numbers when ART was initiated in Fiebig 1 compared to later Fiebig stages and were localized to the T-cell zone compared to the B-cell follicle with treatment in later Fiebig stages. Variability of virus production in people treated during acute infection suggests that the balance between virus-producing cells and the immune response to clear infected cells rapidly evolves during the earliest stages of infection. Parental divorce is one of the most stressful life events for youth and is often associated with (long-lasting) emotional and behavioral problems (EBP). However, not much is known about the timing of the emergence of these EBP in adolescents relative to the moment of parental divorce, and its longitudinal effects. We therefore assessed this timing of EBP in adolescents of divorce and its longitudinal effects. We used the first four waves of the TRacking Adolescent's Individual Lives Survey (TRAILS) cohort, which included 2230 10–12 years olds at baseline. EBP were measured through the Youth Self-Report (YSR), as internalizing and externalizing problems. We applied multilevel analysis to assess the effect of divorce on EBP. The levels of both internalizing and externalizing problems were significantly higher in the period after parental divorce (β = 0.03, and 0.03, respectively; p < 0.05), but not in the period before divorce, with a persistent and increasing effect over the follow-up periods compared to adolescents not experiencing divorce. Adolescents tend to develop more EBP in the period after parental divorce, not before. These effects are long-lasting and underline the need for better care for children with divorcing parents. • Increased 5α-reductase activity seems to be the cause of idiopathic hirsutism. • DHT-reduced metabolites are markedly enhanced in women with idiopathic hirsutism. • Polymorphisms of the androgen receptor and other analytes do not seem to play a significant nor specific role in the pathophysiology of idiopathic hirsutism. Hirsutism is the excessive growth of terminal hair in a male pattern in a female. In most hirsute women, hirsutism is caused by increased androgens. However, not all women with hirsutism actually show elevated levels of circulating androgens with standard laboratory tests, in which case we speak of idiopathic hirsutism (IH). The aim of this paper is to investigate whether there are biochemical markers that can be used to unravel the cause in IH. An electronic search through the PubMed database was conducted to find studies describing potential biomarkers for IH. The majority of included studies claimed an increased 5α-reductase (5α–RD) activity in women with IH by means of increased DHT metabolite levels. Studies investigating abnormalities of the androgen receptor (AR) and serum levels of indirect markers showed no significant differences. Our literature search showed that polymorphisms of the AR as well as indirect markers seem to be nonspecific, but that the dihydrotestosterone-reduced metabolite 5α-androstane-3α,17β-diol glucuronide is markedly enhanced in women with IH, suggesting an increased 5α–RD activity in these women. We consider the Π -free Deletion problem parameterized by the size of a vertex cover, for a range of graph properties Π. Given an input graph G , this problem asks whether there is a subset of at most k vertices whose removal ensures the resulting graph does not contain a graph from Π as an induced subgraph. We introduce the concept of characterizing a graph property Π by low-rank adjacencies , and use it as the cornerstone of a general kernelization theorem for Π -Free Deletion parameterized by the size of a vertex cover. The resulting framework captures problems such as AT-Free Deletion , Wheel-free Deletion , and Interval Deletion. Moreover, our new framework shows that the vertex-deletion problem to perfect graphs has a polynomial kernel when parameterized by vertex cover, thereby resolving an open question by Fomin et al. The asymptotic charges of spin-1 and spin-2 fields are studied near spatial infinity. We evaluate the charges at the critical sets where spatial infinity meets null infinity with the aim of finding the relation between the charges at future and past null infinities. To this end, we make use of Friedrich's framework of the cylinder at spatial infinity to obtain asymptotic expansions of the Maxwell and spin-2 fields near spatial infinity, which are fully determined in terms of initial data on a Cauchy hypersurface. With expanding the initial data in terms of spin-weighted spherical harmonics, it is shown that only a subset of the initial data, which satisfy certain regularity conditions, gives rise to well-defined charges at the point where future (past) infinity meets spatial infinity. Given such initial data, the charges are shown to be fully expressed in terms of the freely specifiable part of the data. Rationale: Compromised cognitive control in cannabis use–tempting situations is thought to play a key role in the development of cannabis use disorders. However, little is known about how exposure to cannabis cues and contexts may influence cognitive control and the underlying neural mechanisms in cannabis users. Objectives: Working memory (WM) is an attention reliant executive function central to cognitive control. In this study, we investigated how distracting cannabis words affected WM load–dependent performance and related brain activity in near-daily cannabis users (N = 36) relative to controls (N = 33). Methods: Brain activity was recorded during a novel N-back flanker WM task with neutral and cannabis flankers added as task-irrelevant distractors. Results: On a behavioural level, WM performance did not differ between groups, and the presence of cannabis flankers did not affect performance. However, in cannabis users compared to controls, the presence of cannabis flankers reduced WM load–related activity in multiple regions, including the insula, thalamus, superior parietal lobe and supramarginal gyrus. Conclusions: The group specificity of these effects suggest that cannabis users might differ from controls in the way they process cannabis-related cues and that cannabis cue exposure could interfere with other cognitive processes under cognitively demanding circumstances. Future studies should focus on the role of context in cognitive control–related processes like WM and attention to further elucidate potential cognitive impairments in heavy cannabis users and how these relate to loss of control over drug seeking itself. Rationale: Cannabis use among people with mood disorders increased in recent years. While comorbidity between cannabis use, cannabis use disorder (CUD), and mood disorders is high, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Objectives: We aimed to evaluate (1) the epidemiological evidence for an association between cannabis use, CUD, and mood disorders; (2) prospective longitudinal, genetic, and neurocognitive evidence of underlying mechanisms; and (3) prognosis and treatment options for individuals with CUD and mood disorders. Methods: Narrative review of existing literature is identified through PubMed searches, reviews, and meta-analyses. Evidence was reviewed separately for depression, bipolar disorder, and suicide. Results: Current evidence is limited and mixed but suggestive of a bidirectional relationship between cannabis use, CUD, and the onset of depression. The evidence more consistently points to cannabis use preceding onset of bipolar disorder. Shared neurocognitive mechanisms and underlying genetic and environmental risk factors appear to explain part of the association. However, cannabis use itself may also influence the development of mood disorders, while others may initiate cannabis use to self-medicate symptoms. Comorbid cannabis use and CUD are associated with worse prognosis for depression and bipolar disorder including increased suicidal behaviors. Evidence for targeted treatments is limited. Conclusions: The current evidence base is limited by the lack of well-controlled prospective longitudinal studies and clinical studies including comorbid individuals. Future studies in humans examining the causal pathways and potential mechanisms of the association between cannabis use, CUD, and mood disorder comorbidity are crucial for optimizing harm reduction and treatment strategies. Objectives Agreement between real-time and static ultrasonography has not been studied in musculoskeletal diseases. We studied this agreement in inflammatory hand OA. Methods Ultrasonography was performed blinded to clinical information of 30 joints of 75 patients with hand OA, treated with prednisolone in a randomized placebo-controlled double-blind trial. Images were scored real-time at acquisition and stored images were scored static (paired in known chronological order) for inflammatory features and osteophytes (score 0–3). Agreement between methods was studied at joint level with quadratic weighted kappa. At patient level intra-class correlations (ICC) of sum scores and change in sum-scores (delta baseline—week 6) were calculated. Responsiveness of scoring methods was analysed with generalized estimating equations (GEE) with treatment as independent and ultrasonography findings as dependent variable. Results Agreement at baseline was good to excellent at joint level (kappa 0.72–0.88) and moderate to excellent at patient level (ICC 0.58–0.91). Agreement for change in sum scores was poor to fair for synovial thickening and effusion (ICC 0.18 and 0.34, respectively), while excellent for Doppler signal (ICC 0.80). Real-time ultrasonography discriminated between prednisolone and placebo with a mean between-group difference of synovial thickening of −2.5 (95% CI: −4.7, −0.3). Static ultrasonography did not show a decrease in synovial thickening. Conclusion While cross-sectional agreement between real-time and static ultrasonography is good, static ultrasonography measurement of synovial thickening did not show responsiveness to prednisone therapy while real-time ultrasonography did. People's news diets are shaped by a diverse set of selection biases that may be unconscious in nature. This study investigates whether providing individuals with information about such unconscious biases attenuates selective exposure. More specifically, in two selective-exposure experiments among Dutch ingroup members focusing on ethnic (N = 286) and religious (N = 277) minorities, we expose individuals to their unconscious prejudices as measured by the Implicit Association Test (IAT) before documenting their news-selection patterns. Findings indicate that the effectiveness of this awareness-inducing strategy depends upon existing levels of implicit and explicit prejudice and overly expressed acceptance of the IAT scores. This implies that raising awareness of implicit prejudice works as an effective strategy for fighting biased news selection for some, but may backfire for others, and should therefore only be implemented with caution and attention for explicit considerations. The depositional signatures of the Cretaceous OAE1a and OAE1b intervals in the Parh Formation, Lower Indus Basin, Pakistan, Eastern Tethys, have been studied to better constrain the Aptian–Albian ocean–climate system. Based on the microfacies attributes, an outer ramp to deep basin is suggested for the deposition of Parh Formation. The quasi-periodic occurrences of radiolarian-rich microfacies and the cyclicity between the outer ramp and deep basin settings throughout the section suggest eutrophication in this part of the Eastern Tethys influenced by Milankovitch cycles. The clastic influx during OAE1a and OAE1b intervals indicate the role of continental runoff in the eutrophication of the basin. The overall negative covariance between radiolarian-rich microfacies and clastic input suggests that upwelling was a major driver of nutrient enrichment rather than continental runoff. The organic enrichment along with pyrite framboids and lack of burrows suggest that dysoxic–anoxic bottom water conditions were common throughout the Aptian and not just in the OAE1a and OAE1b intervals. The poor ventilation of the sea floor was a result of restricted circulation and may have triggered sustained anoxia during Aptian in this part of the Eastern Tethys. Bottom-water currents recharged coarser clastics to the deeper part of the basin during OAE1a and OAE1b intervals. However, the effects of deep ventilated oxic water during the events were reduced by persistent ocean anoxia. Furthermore, the dominance of carbonate sediments throughout the Aptian–lower Albian succession suggests relatively alkaline oceans in this part of Eastern Tethys. A pronounced sea-level rise, as suggested elsewhere was not observed during OAE1a and OAE1b intervals in this part of the Tethys. The Aptian–Albian hemipelagic sequence of the Parh Formation, Lower Indus Basin, Pakistan, Eastern Tethys has been deposited in an outer ramp to deep basin environment. The quasi-periodic occurrences of radiolarian-rich microfacies and cyclic alternation of depositional environments suggest eutrophication of the basin influenced by Milankovitch cycles. High strain-rate testing of high-density polyethylene is the focus of the present work. This testing is accomplished by two types of experimental testing: uniaxial tensile testing using standard testing technique, and impact testing of a 3D structure with non-trivial geometry. Both the uniaxial tests and the impact tests were evaluated using a material model suited for rate-dependent inelasticity of polymers that has been developed. In the uniaxial tensile tests, a maximum strain-rate of about 28/s was attained. In the impact tests, strain-rates of the order of 100/s and beyond were predicted in the analyses. The impact tests were simulated and analysed by use of finite element simulations. Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) analyses were employed for some of the tests where there was an interaction between the compressed structure and air trapped inside it. Overall, the simulations were able to reproduce the outcome from the experiments well. Job advertisements hold a wealth of knowledge for the public relations field about complex internal and external organizational dynamics. They reflect enduring social and sectoral cultural proclivities and associated stereotypes about workers. We examine the presence of stereotypical frames in job advertisements from sectors with varying gender and age social group composition. Guided by social categorization framing and the stereotype content model, we operationalize stereotypical warmth- and competence-related frames in candidate sourcing communication. Automated content analysis was conducted on a dataset of online job ad sentences (n = 308,583) from 16,135 job ads. Results indicate warmth-related frames are most observed in ads from female-dominated (vs. male-dominated) sectors and younger-dominated (vs. older-dominated and mixed-age) sectors. Conversely, competence-related frames are most observed in ads from male-dominated (vs. female-dominated and mixed-age) sectors and older-dominated (vs. younger-dominated and mixed-age) sectors. We additionally find candidate gender stereotypes may supersede age stereotypes in hiring contexts. Semi-crystalline polymers is an important group of materials that is used in a vast array of products. In this study, the rate-dependent properties of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) are investigated, both experimentally and theoretically. Experimental compression testing of a three-dimensional HDPE structure is performed and analysed numerically by use of the finite element method. In addition, an Eulerian constitutive material model for isotropic, semi-crystalline polymers is proposed. The model is able to account for such essential phenomena as strain-rate dependence, work hardening, pressure-dependence of inelastic deformations, and damage. The proposed material model was implemented in Abaqus as a VUMAT, which is an explicit implementation. The material model was calibrated by use of uniaxial tensile tests performed on HDPE dog-bone shaped samples, and the model was further explored by applying the VUMAT implementation to the compression tests of the HDPE structure. The simulation model was able to reproduce the experimental results well, both the uniaxial tests and the compression tests. The global increase in lenient cannabis policy has been paralleled by reduced harm perception, which has been associated with cannabis use initiation and persistent use. However, it is unclear how cannabis attitudes might affect the brain processes underlying cannabis use. Resting state functional connectivity (RSFC) within and between the executive control network (ECN), salience network (SN), and default mode network (DMN) was assessed in 110 near-daily cannabis users with cannabis use disorder (CUD) and 79 controls from The Netherlands and Texas, USA. Participants completed a questionnaire assessing the perceived benefits and harms of cannabis use from their personal, friends-family's, and country-state's perspectives and reported on their cannabis use (gram/week), CUD severity, and cannabis-related problems. RSFC within the dorsal SN was lower in cannabis users than controls, while no group differences in between-network RSFC were observed. Furthermore, heavier cannabis use was associated with lower dorsal SN RSFC in the cannabis group. Perceived benefits and harms of cannabis – from personal, friends-family's, and country-state's perspectives – moderated associations of cannabis use, CUD severity, and cannabis use-related problems with within-network RSFC of the SN, ECN, and DMN. Personal perceived benefits and country-state perceived harms moderated the association between CUD severity and RSFC between the ventral and dorsal DMN. Tin oxide (SnO 2) and zinc oxide (ZnO) coupled metal-oxide nanocomposites or SnO 2 –ZnO were prepared using a sol-gel method. The stretching mode frequencies and crystal structures were examined by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. The microscopic analyses by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed a flower-like morphology of the nanocomposites. The analysis of surface chemical and electronic states was conducted by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The band gap energies as confirmed from the ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–Vis) data were found to be larger than those of the bulk band gaps due to the increase between energy levels associated with smaller particle sizes. The UV (380 nm) and orange (595) photoluminescence (PL) emissions observed from the SnO 2 :ZnO nanocomposites were attributed to a combinatorial contribution from radiative transitions in SnO 2 and ZnO components. Understanding the impact of shaping processes on solid adsorbents is critical for the implementation of MOFs in industrial separation processes or as catalytic materials. Production of MOF‐containing shaped particles is typically associated with loss of porosity and modification of acid sites, two phenomena that affect their performance. Herein, we report a detailed study on how extrusion affects the crystallinity, porosity, and acidity of the aluminium fumarate MOF with clays or SiO2 gel binders. Thorough characterization showed that the clay binders confer the extrudates a good mechanical robustness at the expense of porosity, while silica gel shows an opposite trend. The CO2 selectivity towards CH4, of interest for natural gas separation processes, is maintained upon the extrusion process. Moreover, probe FTIR spectroscopy revealed no major changes in the types of acid sites. Introduction: Understanding the course of stress during the neonatal intensive care unit stay may provide targets for interventions. Our aim was to describe the course of stress in preterm infants during the first 28 days of life, the influence of gestational age, and associations with clinical characteristics. Methods: In a single centre prospective cohort study, we included infants with a gestational age <30 weeks and/or birth weight <1,000 g. We measured stress over the first 28 days using the Neonatal Infant Stressor Scale (NISS). We plotted daily NISS total and subcategory scores by gestational age. The subcategories were (1) nursing, (2) skin-breaking, (3) monitoring and imaging, and (4) medical morbidity-related scores. We assessed associations of cumulative NISS scores over the first 7, 14, and 28 days with clinical characteristics using regression analyses. Results: We included 45 infants, with a median gestational age of 27 weeks. The mean daily NISS score was 66.5 (SD 8.7), with highest scores in the first 7 days of life. Scores decreased the slowest for the lowest gestational ages, in particular for nursing scores, rather than skin-breaking, monitoring and imaging, and medical morbidity-related scores. Adjusted for gestational age, infants with lower Apgar scores, sepsis, intraventricular haemorrhages, and on mechanical ventilation had significantly higher cumulative NISS scores at 7, 14, and 28 days. Conclusion: NISS scores varied greatly within infants and over time, with the highest mean scores in the first week after birth. Postoperative ileus is a common complication in the days following colorectal surgery occurring in up to 50% of patients. When prolonged, this complication results in significant morbidity and mortality, doubling the total costs of hospital stay. Postoperative ileus (POI) results from the prolonged inflammatory phase that is mediated in part by the cholinergic anti‐inflammatory pathway. Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, such as neostigmine and pyridostigmine, delay the degradation of acetylcholine at the synaptic cleft. This increase in acetylcholine has been shown to increase gut motility. They have been effective in the treatment of acute colonic pseudo‐obstruction, but there is limited evidence for the use of these medications for reducing the incidence of POI. This review was conducted to summarise the evidence of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors' effect on gut motility and discuss their potential use as part of an enhanced recovery protocols to prevent or treat POI. Introduction: We aimed to compare conduction dynamics and need for permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI) after CoreValve, Evolut R and PRO (transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)).Methods: Patients were stratified based on conduction at baseline; Cohort A had normal conduction, Cohort B had conduction abnormalities including atrioventricular (AV)-block, fascicular block or complete bundle branch block. Three different dynamic QRS-patterns were defined: stable QRS-duration, transient QRS-prolongation and persistent QRS-prolongation. We performed multivariable regression analysis to estimate the effect of the three separate transcatheter heart valves (THV's) on need for PPI at 30 days.Results: TAVR was performed with CoreValve (N = 113), Evolut R (N = 157) or Evolut PRO (N = 92). Conduction dynamics were similar between the different THVs. Overall, Evolut R and PRO showed a tendency towards less PPI compared to CoreValve (17% vs. 19% vs. 27%, P = 0.08), which was driven by a lower PPI rate in Cohort A (6% vs. 11% vs. 25%, P = 0.002). Need for PPI was restricted to patients with persistent QRS-prolongation in Cohort A (26/106) but did not correlate with conduction dynamics in Cohort B. In multivariable logistic regression analysis the use of Evolut R (OR 0.38, 95% CI 0.19-0.78, P = 0.008) and PRO (OR 0.41, 95% CI 0.19-0.91, P-value = 0.028) were independently associated with less need for PPI.Conclusion: The newer generations Evolut R and PRO were associated with less PPI compared to CoreValve. Acquired persistent conduction abnormalities predicted PPI after TAVR only in patients with normal conduction at baseline. Stratigraphic horizons of the Cretaceous oceanic anoxic events (OAEs) are constrained for the first time at the northwestern margin of the Indian Plate, Pakistan, using high-resolution planktonic foraminiferal biostratigraphy. In this study, 15 planktonic foraminiferal biozones have been erected, suggesting an early Aptian to early Maastrichtian age for the studied section. Based on the established biozones, the stratigraphic positions of the Cretaceous OAEs are defined. The lowermost organic-rich interval occurs in the Hedbergella delrioensis and Globigerinelloides algerianus zones of the early to late Aptian, which correlate with the Selli (OAE 1a) and Fallot events. The next interval with the abundant presence of organic matter occurs in the Ticinella bejaouaensis zone (latest Aptian) and correlates with OAE1b. The third organic-rich interval falls in the Biticinella breggiensis zone of the middle to late Albian and correlates with the OAE1c. The fourth organic-rich horizon straddles the Cenomanian − Turonian boundary and corresponds to OAE2. The fifth organic-rich interval falls in the Globotruncana ventricosa zone of middle to late Campanian age and correlates with the Campanian isotopic event. The evolution of planktonic foraminifera in this part of the Tethys Ocean, is driven by OAEs, e.g. at the base of OAE2, a mass extinction of foraminiferal species, mainly rotaliporids, occurred, and at the end of OAE2, simultaneous appearances of the whiteinellids, marginotruncanids and dicarinellids indicate the fastest rate of speciation. The planktonic foraminiferal biostratigraphic investigations revealed an early Aptian to early Maastrichtian age for the Parh Formation exposed in the Mughal Kot Section, Pakistan. Based on biostratigraphic data, stratigraphic positions of the OAE1a, OAE1b, OAE1c, OAE2 and Campanian events are constrained. Traditionally, topographic surveying in earth sciences requires high financial investments, elaborate logistics, complicated training of staff and extensive data processing. Recently, off-the-shelf drones with optical sensors already reduced the costs for obtaining a high-resolution dataset of an Earth surface considerably. Nevertheless, costs and complexity associated with topographic surveying are still high. In 2020, Apple Inc. released the iPad Pro 2020 and the iPhone 12 Pro with novel build-in LiDAR sensors. Here we investigate the basic technical capabilities of the LiDAR sensors and we test the application at a coastal cliff in Denmark. The results are compared to state-of-the-art Structure from Motion Multi-View Stereo (SfM MVS) point clouds. The LiDAR sensors create accurate high-resolution models of small objects with a side length > 10 cm with an absolute accuracy of ± 1 cm. 3D models with the dimensions of up to 130 × 15 × 10 m of a coastal cliff with an absolute accuracy of ± 10 cm are compiled. Overall, the versatility in handling outweighs the range limitations, making the Apple LiDAR devices cost-effective alternatives to established techniques in remote sensing with possible fields of application for a wide range of geo-scientific areas and teaching. Background: We examined the social cognition determinants of parental supervised toothbrushing guided by the health action process approach (HAPA). Methods: In a prospective correlational survey study, participants (N = 185, 84.3% women) completed HAPA social cognition constructs at an initial time point (T1), and 12 weeks later (T2) self‐reported on their parental supervised toothbrushing behaviour, toothbrushing habit, and action control. Results: Structural equation models exhibited adequate fit with the data when past behaviour and habit were either excluded or included. Intention, self‐efficacy, planning, and action control were predictors of parental supervised toothbrushing; intention predicted action planning and coping planning; and self‐efficacy and attitude were predictors of intention. Indirect effects of social cognition constructs through intentions, and intentions through planning constructs were also observed. Inclusion of past behaviour and habit attenuated model effects. Conclusion: Results indicate that parental supervised toothbrushing is a function of motivational and volitional processes. Objective.: To review the new ultra-rapid-acting insulin analogs and describe the benefits and limitations compared with other bolus insulins. Summary.: The options for bolus insulins, which are usually taken at mealtime or for correction of hyperglycemia, are expanding, with recent approvals of faster-acting insulin aspart and insulin lispro-aabc. These new-generation insulins contain additives that enhance absorption and accelerate onset of action. Clinical studies demonstrate that, although these insulins are faster acting, their efficacy for A1C lowering and safety in terms of hypoglycemia risk are similar to those of other available bolus insulin options such as rapid-acting insulin analogs. However, their use resulted in significant reductions in 1- and 2-hour postprandial glucose levels. Conclusion.: Novel ultra-rapid-acting insulins provide additional bolus insulin options, and their quick onset of action provides additional dosing flexibility for people with diabetes. Given their comparable efficacy and safety compared to other quick-acting insulins, health care providers should engage in shared decision-making with patients and their caregivers regarding possible use of ultra-rapid-acting insulin, taking into account their preferences, individualized considerations, and insurance formulary coverage. Glucocorticoid (GC)‐induced osteoporosis is a widespread health problem that is accompanied with increased fracture risk. Detrimental effects of anti‐inflammatory GC therapy on bone have been ascribed to the excess in GC exposure, but it is unknown whether there is also a role for disruption of the endogenous GC rhythm that is inherent to GC therapy. To investigate this, we implanted female C57Bl/6J mice with slow‐release corticosterone (CORT) pellets to blunt the rhythm in CORT levels without inducing hypercortisolism. Flattening of CORT rhythm reduced cortical and trabecular bone volume and thickness, whilst bone structure was maintained in mice injected with supraphysiologic CORT at the time of their endogenous GC peak. Mechanistically, mice with a flattened CORT rhythm showed disrupted circadian gene expression patterns in bone, along with changes in circulating bone turnover markers indicative of a negative balance in bone remodelling. Indeed, double calcein labelling of bone in vivo revealed a reduced bone formation in mice with a flattened CORT rhythm. Collectively, these perturbations in bone turnover and structure decreased bone strength and stiffness, as determined by mechanical testing. In conclusion, we demonstrate for the first time that flattening of the GC rhythm disrupts the circadian clock in bone and results in an osteoporotic phenotype in mice. Our findings indicate that at least part of the fracture risk associated with GC therapy may be the consequence of a disturbed GC rhythm, rather than excess GC exposure alone, and that a dampened GC rhythm may contribute to the age‐related risk of osteoporosis. CONTEXT: An overview of the full range of neonatal stressors and the associated clinical, laboratory, and imaging outcomes regarding infants' health and development may contribute to the improvement of neonatal care. OBJECTIVE: To systematically review existing literature on the associations between all kinds of neonatal stressors and the health and development of preterm infants. DATA SOURCES: Data sources included Embase, Medline, PsycINFO, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and reference lists. STUDY SELECTION: Studies were eligible if they included a measure of neonatal stress during the NICU stay, reported clinical, laboratory, and/or imaging outcomes regarding health and/or development on discharge from the NICU or thereafter, included preterm infants, and were written in English or Dutch. DATA EXTRACTION: Two reviewers independently screened the sources and extracted data on health and development. Study quality was assessed by using the Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale. RESULTS: We identified 20 articles that reported on neonatal stress associated negatively with clinical outcomes, including cognitive, motor, and emotional development, and laboratory and imaging outcomes, including epigenetic alterations, hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis functioning, and structural brain development. We found no evidence regarding associations with growth, cardiovascular health, parent-infant interaction, the neonatal immune system, and the neonatal microbiome. LIMITATIONS: The studies were all observational and used different definitions of neonatal stress. CONCLUSIONS: Neonatal stress has a profound impact on the health and development of preterm infants, and physicians involved in their treatment and follow-up should be aware of this fact. Objective Inappropriate prescribing of drugs is associated with unnecessary harms for patients and healthcare costs. Interventions to reduce these prescriptions are widely studied, yet the effectiveness of different types of interventions remains unclear. Therefore, we provide an overview regarding the effectiveness of intervention types that aim to reduce inappropriate drug prescriptions, unrestricted by target drugs, population or setting. Methods For this overview, systematic reviews (SRs) were used as the source for original studies. EMBASE and MEDLINE were searched from inception to August 2018. All SRs aiming to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions to reduce inappropriate prescribing of drugs were eligible for inclusion. The SRs and their original studies were screened for eligibility. Interventions of the original studies were categorized by type of intervention. The percentage of interventions showing a significant reduction of inappropriate prescribing were reported per intervention category. Key findings Thirty-two SRs were included, which provided 319 unique interventions. Overall, 61.4% of these interventions showed a significant reduction in inappropriate prescribing of drugs. Strategies that were most frequently effective in reducing inappropriate prescribing were multifaceted interventions (73.2%), followed by interventions containing additional diagnostic tests (antibiotics) (70.4%), computer interventions (69.2%), audit and feedback (66.7%), patient-mediated interventions (62.5%) and multidisciplinary (team) approach (57.1%). The least frequently effective intervention was an education for healthcare professionals (50.0%). Conclusion The majority of the interventions were effective in reducing inappropriate prescribing of drugs. Multifaceted interventions most frequently showed a significant reduction of inappropriate prescribing. Background: Endometrial cancer (EC) risk in BReast CAncer gene 1/2 (BRCA1/2) mutation carriers is uncertain; therefore, we assessed this in a large Dutch nationwide cohort study.Methods: We selected 5980 BRCA1/2 (3788 BRCA1, 2151 gBRCA2, 41 both BRCA1/BRCA2) and 8451 non-BRCA1/2 mutation carriers from the Hereditary Breast and Ovarian cancer study, the Netherlands cohort. Follow-up started at the date of the nationwide Dutch Pathology Registry coverage (January 1, 1989) or at the age of 25 years (whichever came last) and ended at date of EC diagnosis, last follow-up, or death (whichever came first). EC risk in BRCA1/2 mutation carriers was compared with 1) the general population, estimating standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) based on Dutch population-based incidence rates; and 2) non-BRCA1/2 mutation carriers, using Cox-regression analyses, expressed as hazard ratio (HR). Statistical tests were 2-sided.Results: Fifty-eight BRCA1/2 and 33 non-BRCA1/2 mutation carriers developed EC over 119 296 and 160 841 person-years, respectively (SIR = 2.83, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 2.18 to 3.65; and HR = 2.37, 95% CI = 1.53 to 3.69, respectively). gBRCA1 mutation carriers showed increased risks for EC overall (SIR = 3.51, 95% CI = 2.61 to 4.72; HR = 2.91, 95% CI = 1.83 to 4.66), serous-like EC (SIR = 12.64, 95% CI = 7.62 to 20.96; HR = 10.48, 95% CI = 2.95 to 37.20), endometrioid EC (SIR = 2.63, 95% CI = 1.80 to 3.83; HR = 2.01, 95% CI = 1.18 to 3.45), and TP53-mutated EC (HR = 15.71, 95% CI = 4.62 to 53.40). For BRCA2 mutation carriers, overall (SIR = 1.70, 95% CI = 1.01 to 2.87) and serous-like EC risks (SIR = 5.11, 95% CI = 1.92 to 13.63) were increased compared with the general population. Absolute risks by 75 years remained low (overall EC = 3.0%; serous-like EC = 1.1%).Conclusions: BRCA1/2 mutation carriers have a two- to threefold increased risk for EC, with highest risk observed for the rare subgroups of serous-like and p53-abnormal EC in BRCA1 mutation carriers. Penrose's idea of asymptotic flatness provides a framework for understanding the asymptotic structure of gravitational fields of isolated systems at null infinity. However, the studies of the asymptotic behaviour of fields near spatial infinity are more challenging due to the singular nature of spatial infinity in a regular point compactification for spacetimes with non-vanishing ADM mass. Two different frameworks that address this challenge are Friedrich's cylinder at spatial infinity and Ashtekar's definition of asymptotically Minkowskian spacetimes at spatial infinity that give rise to the three-dimensional asymptote at spatial infinity. Both frameworks address the singularity at spatial infinity although the link between the two approaches had not been investigated in the literature. This article aims to show the relation between Friedrich's cylinder and the asymptote as spatial infinity. To do so, we initially consider this relation for Minkowski spacetime. It can be shown that the solution to the conformal geodesic equations provides a conformal factor that links the cylinder and the asymptote. For general spacetimes satisfying Ashtekar's definition, the conformal factor cannot be determined explicitly. However, proof of the existence of this conformal factor is provided in this article. Additionally, the conditions satisfied by physical fields on the asymptote are derived systematically using the conformal constraint equations. Finally, it is shown that a solution to the conformal geodesic equations on the asymptote can be extended to a small neighbourhood of spatial infinity by making use of the stability theorem for ordinary differential equations. In this article, we conduct an empirical ethics approach to unravel the different perspectives on good care that are present in a community mental health team (CMHT) in Utrecht. With the deinstitutionalisation of mental health care, the importance of a close collaboration between the social and medical domains of care on the level of the local community is put in the foreground. Next to organisational thresholds or incentives, this collaboration is shaped by different notions of what good mental health care should entail. Using the concept of modes of ordering care (Moser 2005), we describe five modes of ordering mental health care that are present in the practice of the CMHT: the medical specialist, the juridical, the community, the relational and the bureaucratic perspective. These different modes of ordering care lead to frictions and misunderstandings, but are mutually enhancing at other times. Unravelling these different modes of ordering care can facilitate collaboration between professionals of different care domains and support a mutual understanding of what needs to be done. Aim: Postoperative ileus (POI) is a major problem after colorectal surgery. Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors such as pyridostigmine increase gastrointestinal (GI) motility through a cholinergic anti‐inflammatory pathway. The purpose of this phase II pilot study is to determine the safety of oral pyridostigmine after elective colorectal surgery. Method: This is a Stage 2b safety study (IDEAL framework). All adult patients undergoing elective colorectal resection or formation or reversal of stoma at the Royal Adelaide Hospital between September 2020 and January 2021 were eligible. The primary outcomes were 30‐day postoperative complications, reported adverse events and GI‐2 – a validated composite outcome measure of recovery of GI function after surgery, defined as the interval from surgery until first passage of stool and tolerance of a solid intake for 24 h (in whole days) in the absence of vomiting. Results: Fifteen patients were included in the study. The median age was 58 (range 50–82) years and seven (47%) were men. Most participants had an American Society of Anesthesiologists grade ≥2 (53%) and the median body mass index was 27 (24–35) kg/m2. There were 13 postoperative complications [seven were Clavien–Dindo (CD) 1, five CD 2 and one CD 3]. None appeared directly related to pyridostigmine administration, and none of the patients had any overt symptoms of excessive parasympathetic activity. Median GI‐2 was 2 (1–4) days. Conclusion: Oral pyridostigmine appears to be safe to use after elective colorectal surgery in a select group of patients. However, considering this is a pilot study with a small sample size, larger controlled studies are needed to confirm this finding and establish efficacy for prevention of POI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper investigates the much-debated Jurassic/Cretaceous (J/K) boundary as well as the Early Cretaceous climate using palynomorphs of the Chichali Formation, Upper Indus Basin, North Pakistan. Based on the palynostratigraphy, two dinoflagellates and one spore/pollen assemblage are recorded, suggesting a Kimmeridgian to Valanginian age for the sediments of the Chichali Formation. The palynostratigraphic results further suggest that the Tithonian to Berriasian strata are truncated along the J/K boundary. The warm and humid conditions are supported by the consistent dominance of ferns corresponding to the Schizaeaceae and the intermittent appearance of herbs from Gleicheniaceae. Such climatic conditions are further supported by the consistent presence of evergreen trees with a broad leave of Cyatheaceae and Matoniaceae. The warm and humid conditions are also supported by conifers of the Araucariaceae in association with Cycadaceae. Such conditions during the Valanginian are further supported by the switch from the Bajocian–Oxfordian shallow carbonates of the Samana Suk Formation to the Kimmeridgian–Valanginain clastics of the Chichali Formation. Hence, the expansion of warm and humid tropical flora to the middle latitude (∼40°S) during the Valanginain hints strongly for global warming instead of previously suggested global cooling. Palynostratigraphic investigation shows Kimmeridgian to Valanginian age for the Chichali Formation, Upper Indus Basin, Pakistan. The J/K boundary is marked by an unconformity along which the Tithonian to Berriasian time record is missing. It is shown how the extended conformal Einstein field equations and a gauge based on the properties of conformal geodesics can be used to analyse the non-linear stability of Einstein spaces with negative scalar curvature. This class of spacetimes admits a smooth conformal extension with a spacelike conformal boundary. Central to the analysis is the use of conformal Gaussian systems to obtain a hyperbolic reduction of the conformal Einstein field equations for which standard Cauchy stability results for symmetric hyperbolic systems can be employed. The use of conformal methods allows to rephrase the question of global existence of solutions to the Einstein field equations into considerations of finite existence time for the conformal evolution system. Background: Recovery of gastrointestinal (GI) function is often delayed after colorectal surgery. Enhanced recovery protocols (ERPs) recommend routine laxative use, but evidence of benefit is unclear. This study aimed to investigate whether the addition of multimodal laxatives to an ERP improves return of GI function in patients undergoing colorectal surgery. Methods: This was a single-centre, parallel, open-label RCT. All adult patients undergoing elective colorectal resection or having stoma formation or reversal at the Royal Adelaide Hospital between August 2018 and May 2020 were recruited into the study. The STIMULAX group received oral ColoxylVR with senna and macrogol, with a sodium phosphate enema in addition for right-sided operations. The control group received standard ERP postoperative care. The primary outcome was GI-2, a validated composite measure defined as the interval from surgery until first passage of stool and tolerance of solid intake for 24 h in the absence of vomiting. Secondary outcomes were the incidence of prolonged postoperative ileus (POI), duration of hospital stay, and postoperative complications. The analysis was performed on an intention-to-treat basis. Results: Of a total of 170 participants, 85 were randomized to each group. Median GI-2 was 1 day shorter in the STIMULAX compared with the control group (median 2 (i.q.r. 1.5-4) versus 3 (2-5.5) days; 95 per cent c.i. -1 to 0 days; P = 0.029). The incidence of prolonged POI was lower in the STIMULAX group (22 versus 38 per cent; relative risk reduction 42 per cent; P = 0.030). There was no difference in duration of hospital day or 30-day postoperative complications (including anastomotic leak) between the STIMULAX and control groups. Conclusion: Routine postoperative use of multimodal laxatives after elective colorectal surgery results in earlier recovery of gastrointestinal function and reduces the incidence of prolonged POI. Summary: We have recently characterised NET2A as a pollen‐specific actin‐binding protein that binds F‐actin at the plasma membrane of growing pollen tubes. However, the role of NET2 proteins in pollen development and fertilisation have yet to be elucidated.To further characterise the role of Arabidopsis NET2 proteins in pollen development and fertilisation, we analysed the subcellular localisation of NET2A over the course of pollen grain development and investigated the role of the NET2 family using net2 loss‐of‐function mutants.We observed NET2A to localise to the F‐actin cytoskeleton in developing pollen grains as it underwent striking structural reorganisations at specific stages of development and during germination and pollen tube growth. Furthermore, net2 loss‐of‐function mutants exhibited striking morphological defects in the early stages of pollen tube growth, arising from frequent changes to pollen tube growth trajectory. We observed defects in the cortical actin cytoskeleton and actin‐driven subcellular processes in net2 mutant pollen tubes.We demonstrate that NET2 proteins are essential for normal actin‐driven pollen development highlighting an important role for the NET2 family members in regulating pollen tube growth during fertilisation. Aim: This study aimed to investigate the use of defunctioning stomas after rectal cancer surgery in Australia and New Zealand, as current practice is unknown. Methods: From the Binational Colorectal Cancer Audit database, data on rectal cancer patients who underwent a resection between 2007 and 2019 with the formation of an anastomosis were extracted and analysed. The primary outcome was the rate of defunctioning stoma formation. Secondary outcomes were anastomotic leakage (AL) rates and other postoperative complications, length of hospital stay (LOS), readmissions and 30‐day mortality rates between stoma and no‐stoma groups. Propensity score matching was performed to correct for differences in baseline characteristics between stoma and no‐stoma groups. Results: In total, 2581 (89%) received a defunctioning stoma and 319 (11%) did not. There were more male patients in the stoma group (65.5% vs. 57.7% for the no‐stoma group; P = 0.006). The median age was 64 years in both groups. The stoma group underwent more ultra‐low anterior resections (79.9% vs. 30.1%; P < 0.0001), included more American Joint Committee on Cancer Stage III patients (53.7% vs. 29.2%; P < 0.0001) and received more neoadjuvant therapy (66.9% vs. 16.3%; P < 0.0001). The AL rate was similar in both groups (5.1% vs. 6.0%; P = 0.52). LOS was longer in the stoma group (8 vs. 6 days; P < 0.0001) with higher 30‐day readmission rates (14.9% vs. 8.3%; P = 0.003). After propensity score matching (n = 208 in both groups), AL rates remained similar (2.9% for stoma vs. 5.8% for no‐stoma group; P = 0.15), but stoma patients required less reoperations (0% vs. 8%; P = 0.016). The stoma group had higher postoperative ileus rates and an increased LOS. Conclusion: In Australia and New Zealand, most patients who underwent rectal cancer resections with the formation of an anastomosis received a defunctioning stoma. A defunctioning stoma does not prevent AL from occurring but is mostly associated with a lower reoperation rate. The current study provides a new level of empirical evidence for the nature of ethnic stereotypes in news content by drawing on a sample of more than 3 million Dutch news items. The study's findings demonstrate that universally accepted dimensions of stereotype content (i.e., low-status and high-threat attributes) can be replicated in news media content across a diverse set of ingroup and outgroup categories. Representations of minorities in newspapers have become progressively remote from factual integration outcomes, and are therefore rather an artifact of news production processes than a true reflection of what is actually happening in society. Tropical corals and Amphistegina, an example genus of symbiont-bearing larger benthic foraminifera, are presently living close to their thermal bleaching thresholds. As such, these essential reef-building organisms are vulnerable to the future prospect of more frequent sea surface temperature (SST) extremes. Exploring the earth's paleo-climatic record, including interglacials warmer than present, may provide insights into future oceanographic conditions. We analyse foraminiferal shell geochemical compositions, from Recent surface sediments and Marine Isotope stage (MIS) 9e and MIS11c aged sediments, from the International Ocean Discovery Program Expedition 359 Site U1467 drilled in the Inner Sea of the Maldives. We illustrate through traditional (pooled) geochemical analysis (δ18O, Mg/Ca) that tropical temperatures were indeed marginally warmer during MIS9e and MIS11c in comparison to the modern ocean. Individual foraminiferal analysis (IFA) from the Recent (representing the last few hundred years) and MIS9e samples shows SSTs occasionally breached the coral bleaching threshold similarly to the modern-day. Significantly, the number of transgressions was four times higher during MIS11c, a recognised analogue for a warmer modern world. This new knowledge and novel IFA insight and application is invaluable given thermal stress is already obvious today with an increasing number of bleaching events over the last few decades. Cue reactivity is an important biomarker of cannabis use disorder (CUD). Despite high rates of cigarette and cannabis co‐use, its role in cannabis cue reactivity remains unclear. Using a visual functional magnetic resonance imaging cue reactivity paradigm, we investigated interactive effects of cannabis and cigarette use on cannabis cue relative to cigarette and neutral cue reactivity in a priori regions of interest—the amygdala, striatum, anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), ventral tegmental area (VTA), and orbitofrontal cortex—and a whole‐brain analysis. In our sample of cannabis users and controls closely matched on cigarette use, significant interactions between cannabis and cigarette use status emerged in the amygdala, striatum, ACC, frontal pole, and inferior frontal gyrus. Cannabis‐only users showed heightened cue reactivity in the amygdala compared with nonusing controls. Co‐users did not show heightened cue reactivity compared with cigarette smoking controls, although cue‐induced VTA activity was positively correlated with grams per week of cannabis. Cigarette smoking controls showed unexpectedly heightened cue reactivity compared to co‐users and nonsmoking controls. These findings and the high prevalence of cannabis and cigarette co‐use underscore the importance of considering cigarette smoking status when investigating the role of cue reactivity in heavy cannabis use. Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) is a bioactive phospholipid that participates in critical processes in neural development and adult brain function and is implicated in various pathophysiological conditions. Along with its six well‐characterized receptors, atypical regulators of LPA signaling have also been suggested, including phospholipid phosphatase‐related proteins (PLPPRs). PLPPRs have been mostly studied in the developing brain where they control LPA‐dependent axon guidance, cortical network hyperexcitability, and glutamatergic neurotransmission. PLPPR4 and PLPPR3 represent two closely related proteins reported to localize predominantly in dendrites and axons, respectively, and differ in their developmental expression patterns. Herein, we have revised the expression patterns of PLPPRs in the cerebellum, dorsal and ventral hippocampus, prefrontal cortex (PFC), nucleus accumbens, and striatum during development and in the adult using quantitative PCR. Expression patterns of Plppr2,4 and 5 were consistent with previous studies, whereas Plppr3 and Plppr1 exhibited a unique expression profile in nucleus accumbens (NAc) and striatum in later developmental and adult stages, which we verified at the protein level for PLPPR3. To investigate neuron type‐specific expression at the single cell level, we developed a bioinformatic tool to analyze recent single‐cell RNA‐sequencing data in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus of adult mice. Our analysis revealed a widespread but also selective adult neuron‐type expression with higher expression levels of Plppr3, Plppr1, and Plppr5 in GABAergic and Plppr4 and Plppr2 in glutamatergic neurons. PLPPR4 has been identified as a post‐synaptic modulator of LPA levels in glutamatergic synapses operating via an uptake mechanism, to control LPA‐dependent cortical network hyperexcitability. Using subcellular fractionation experiments, we found that both PLPPR4 and PLPPR3 are co‐expressed in adult synaptosomal membranes. Furthermore, flow cytometry experiments in HEK293 cells showed comparable LPA uptake by PLPPR4 and PLPPR3, whereas PLPRR3, but not PLPPR4, induced also uptake of monoacylglycerol, the dephosphorylation product of LPA. We propose that synaptic LPA may be subject to both pre‐synaptic and post‐synaptic mechanisms of regulation by PLPPRs in addition to LPARs in developing and adult synapses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: It is known that cannabis use affects memory and sleep problems independently. However, to date, how memory and sleep problems may interact as a result of cannabis use remains unknown.Objectives: We performed a secondary analysis of existing data to determine whether sleep quality mediates the association between cannabis use and memory and whether sex moderated these effects.Methods: A total of 141 adults with cannabis use disorder (CUD) (83 men) and 87 without CUD (39 men) participated in this study. Outcome measures included self-reported sleep problems from the past 7 days (Marijuana Withdrawal Checklist), learning and memory performance via the short visual object learning task (sVOLT), short visual object learning task delayed (sVOLTd), and verbal memory via the N-back. Bootstrapped mediation and moderated mediation analyses were run to test if sleep quality mediated the association between cannabis use and memory outcomes and whether sex moderated these effects, respectively.Results: Sleep quality mediated the effect of group (i.e. adults with and without CUD) on sVOLT efficiency scores (indirect effect ß = −.08, 95% CI [−0.14, −0.04]) and sVOLTd efficiency scores (indirect effect ß = −.09, 95% CI [−0.14, −0.04]), where greater sleep difficulties was associated with poorer memory performance (decreased efficiency scores). Sex did not moderate these relationships.Conclusion: These initial findings of a mediating role of sleep in the association between CUD and visual learning memory highlight potential critical downstream effects of disrupted sleep in those with CUD and suggest the importance of investigating sleep in CUD. Introduction: Antenatal antibiotic exposure has been suggested as a risk factor for bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). We aimed to summarize the evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies on this potential association. Methods: PubMed/Medline and Embase databases were searched. BPD was classified as BPD28 (supplemental oxygen during 28 days or at postnatal day 28), BPD36 (supplemental oxygen at 36 weeks postmenstrual age), BPD36 or death, and BPD-associated pulmonary hypertension (BPD-PH). Bayesian model-averaged (BMA) meta-analysis was used to calculate Bayes factors (BFs). The BF10 is the ratio of the probability of the data under the alternative hypothesis (H1) over the probability of the data under the null hypothesis (H0). Results: We included 6 RCTs and 27 observational studies (126,614 infants). Regarding BPD28, BMA showed that the evidence in favor of H0 (lack of association with antenatal antibiotics) was weak for the RCTS (BF10 = 0.506, 6 studies) and moderate for the observational studies (BF10 = 0.286, 10 studies). Regarding BPD36, the evidence in favor of H0 was moderate for the RCTs (BF10 = 0.127, 2 studies) and weak for the observational studies (BF10 = 0.895, 14 studies). Evidence in favor of H0 was also weak for the associations with BPD36 or death (BF10 = 0.429, 2 studies) and BPD-PH (BF10 = 0.384, 2 studies). None of the meta-analyses showed evidence in favor of H1. Conclusions: The currently available evidence suggests a lack of association between antenatal antibiotics and BPD. However, our results should not be interpreted as an argument for widespread use of antibiotics in the setting of preterm delivery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
