58. Automated Destination Renewal Process for Location-Based Robot Errands.

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a new approach for service robots to perform delivery tasks in indoor environments, including map-building and the automatic renewal of destinations for navigation. The first step involves converting the available floor plan (i.e., CAD drawing) of a new space into a grid map that the robot can navigate. The system then segments the space in the map and generates movable initial nodes through a generalized Voronoi graph (GVG) thinning process. As the second step, we perform room segmentation from the grid map of the indoor environment and classify each space. Next, when the delivery object is recognized while searching the set space using the laser and RGB-D sensor, the system automatically updates itself to a position that makes it easier to grab objects, taking into consideration geometric relationships with surrounding obstacles. Also, the system supports the robot to autonomously explore the space where the user's errand can be performed by hierarchically linking recognized objects and spatial information. Experiments related to map generation, estimating space from the recognized objects, and destination node updates were conducted from CAD drawings of buildings with actual multiple floors and rooms, and the performance of each stage of the process was evaluated. 59. The Effect of Youth Entrepreneurship Education Programs: Two Large-Scale Experimental Studies

Abstract

Recent years have witnessed the worldwide growth of entrepreneurship education (EE) as entrepreneurship is regarded as the key driver of innovation and economic growth. Most extant studies on EE have focused on its impact on entrepreneurial intentions. However, the application of the same EE measurements for both adults and adolescents has long been criticized; the indices developed for potential adult entrepreneurs may not be suitable for young entrepreneurs, considering the large time gap before they enter the workforce. This study aims to develop appropriate indicators for the assessment of youth EE in Korea and to examine the effectiveness of youth EE. Two large-scale quasi-experimental studies were conducted with pre- and posttest matched-comparison groups for verification. This study suggests six common variables for measuring the impact of youth EE: opportunity discovery, opportunity exploitation, entrepreneurship, creativity capacity, social problem solving, and entrepreneurial intention. The analyses showed that all these indicators positively influenced youth EE. We also proposed practical suggestions for the development of EE programs.

Abstract

In the present study, we prepared an ethanol extract from the flowers of Styphnolobium japonicum L. (SJFE) and found that it contains rutin as a major constituent as well as quercetin kaempferol and isorhamnetin as minor components. In lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages, we observed that SJFE significantly inhibited the production of nitric oxide and the expression of major inflammatory biomarkers such as inducible NO synthase, cyclooxygenase-2, interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-1β significantly. Based on these in vitro results, we investigated the anti-inflammatory properties of SJFE on osteoarthritis (OA) of the left hind knee joints induced by monosodium iodoacetate in rats. SJFE was orally administered to the rats with arthritis for 4 weeks, and the following results were obtained. The rats treated with SJFE exhibited a 24% improvement in the weight-bearing index of their affected legs, as well as reductions of 31.5% and 23.2% in serum levels of cartilage oligomeric matrix protein and C-terminal telopeptide 2, respectively. Additionally, Mankin's score, an indicator used to assess the severity of joint cartilage damage, decreased by 2.75 points compared to the control with no treatment. These findings suggest that SJFE possesses anti-inflammatory properties and can alleviate symptoms of OA, indicating its potential to offer relief to individuals suffering from arthritis. Abstract

The morphology of facial scars shows a wide variation in terms of texture and colour. To date, there are no reliable predictors of aberrant scarring. We conducted a retrospective analysis to identify factors associated with specific scar features and types. Photographs and medical records of 428 patients with facial scars were retrospectively reviewed. Patients with keloids were excluded. The mean age of the patients was 45.43 ± 23.13 years with a male‐to‐female ratio of 1:1.36. Atrophic scars were the most common (42.8%), followed by flat scars (38.7%) and hypertrophic scars (18.5%). Scars on the forehead were more likely to be atrophic, whereas scars on the chin/jaw and around the mouth were more likely to be hypertrophic. Hypopigmentation was significantly more common in scars located on the forehead. Redness (erythema) was significantly more common in scars located on the chin/jaw. Old scars were less likely to be erythematous, and hypertrophic. Atrophic scars were more common in younger patients. Scars caused by dermatologic conditions, such as acne, were more likely to be atrophic, whereas surgical scars had the lowest risk of being atrophic or hypertrophic. Abstract

This study investigates the validity of exploitation and exploration when small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) navigate a highly uncertain time. Although balancing the two strategies has been thought to lead to improved firm performance in general, a combined approach appears to be problematic for SMEs due to a lack of feasibility. We theorise that the effectiveness may vary depending on a fit between the strategies and the environmental contingencies. In doing so, we considered two potential environmental contingencies of a crisis for SMEs: loss of demand and loss of supply. To put our theory to the test, we gathered 224 responses from business leaders and key individuals from Korean start-ups and tested the effectiveness of crisis management strategies. Our findings support the validity of both exploitation and exploration when firms face a loss of demand, but not a loss of supply. Abstract

A linear-response method to calculate the effective Coulomb interaction ($U$) between closed-shell localized electrons is suggested and applied to the $3d$ closed-shell systems (Cu, Zn, and ZnO) based on plane-wave basis density-functional theory calculations. Since the closed-shell localized states are far below the Fermi level, large local perturbation potential ($\alpha$) projected to the localized states is applied to induce purposeful density response ($\Delta n$). From the $\alpha$, the perturbation potential cost for density response onset, by which the $\Delta n$ begins to be induced, is removed. The main screening channel for the effective Coulomb interaction is the itinerant electrons deoccupied from the perturbed localized states. The Cu, Zn, and ZnO $3d$ electron binding energies are calculated based on the local density approximation plus $U$ with the $U$ values calculated from the linear-response, which are found to be in good agreement with experiments., Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures
