To address the CO2accumulation in atmosphere, various initiatives have been proposed, among which CO2capture and utilization (CCU) is regarded as an appealing strategy to reconcile carbon emission and resource utilization. Especially, integrated CO2capture and utilization (ICCU), i.e. performing CO2capture and in-situ conversion can circumvent the energy-intensive CO2desorption step and thus facilitate establishing step- and energy-efficient process, rendering the conversion at mild conditions particularly at low pressure due to substantial activation upon CO2uptake. However, CO2capture and in-situ conversion is not the simple add-up of these two processes. Its successful implementation relies on the harmonization of CO2capture reagents, substrates and the corresponding catalysts. By far, tremendous efforts have been made in this field and a plethora of CO2capture reagents including inorganic bases, organic bases, ionic liquids and carbonaceous materials have been utilized to capture CO2and the conversion protocols such as hydrogenation, cycloaddition, carboxylative cyclization etc. have been explored for these captured CO2. As a result, the valuable products containing methanol, methane, carbonates, carbamates, oxazolidinones, ureas, and quinazolinone have been obtained from CO2and more importantly, the CO2chemistry theory is also enriched via investigating the structure and reactivity of the captured CO2in various reactions. In this review, we summarize the progress on CO2capture and in-situ conversion based on the reaction types and corresponding CO2absorbents. It’s hoped that this review can shed light on the design of CO2capture and in-situ conversion and inspire the further development of this field.

Herein, we report an electrochemical protocol for the dicarboxylation of aryl alkynes using CO2. With a graphite rod as the cathode and Al as the sacrificial anode, a series of valuable butenedioic acids are obtained in moderate to excellent yields with an E/Zratio up to 50:1. This method features high E-selectivity, high step and atom economy, easy scalability, and a nice substrate scope, which renders it appealing for promising applications in organic synthesis and materials chemistry.

Carbon dioxide is not only one of the greenhouse gases but also an appealing renewable C1source. To reconcile the environmental benefit with chemical industry development, conversion of CO2into valuable chemicals is proposed, and tremendous effort has been devoted to developing new synthetic protocols and highly efficient catalytic systems, wherein copper catalysis is attractive and features effective, inexpensive, and diverse transformation of CO2. Considering the ubiquity of the C–Cu bond in organic chemistry and the wide application of the resulting carbocuprate species in reductive coupling with electrophiles, C–Cu formation and subsequent CO2insertion has been developed as an important strategy for CO2chemical fixation, thereby resulting in the preparation of a variety of valuable chemicals. To arouse broad interest in this strategy, we summarize recent advances and give an overview on CO2transformations via the carbocuprate species on the basis of the C–Cu bond formation mechanism, including copper-promoted alkyne and halide activation, transmetalation of some specific chemicals with copper, and hydrocupration, borocupration, and silylcupration of unsaturated substrates. It is hoped that this review can provide some clues for further exploration in this field.

The antimicrobial resistance pattern was studied among 300 Stenotrophomonas maltophiliaisolates collected from 300 nonduplicated inpatients. The average age of the patients was 73.5 ± 14.6 years old. Isolates nonsusceptible to levofloxacin, chloramphenicol, minocycline or trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (SXT) were more prevalent in the 99 patients aged over 81 years than in the other patients (p < 0.05). Multidrug resistance was found to be significantly associated with isolates recovered from the blood (72.7%, p = 0.000) and elderly patients (31.3%, p = 0.003). A trend of increased resistance to antimicrobials and higher and higher frequencies of multidrug-resistant isolates were observed through the 10-year period, wherein the percentage of isolates resistant to SXT was significantly changed from 29.7% in 2005–2009 to 47.1% in 2010–2014 (p = 0.02). Clinicians are recommended to pay special attention to the possibility of multidrug-resistant S. maltophiliainfection in elderly inpatients.
