Abstract

License plate recognition is one of the important research topic in computer vision, image processing and pattern recognition technology in the field of intelligent transportation applications. It is an important part of the intelligent traffic management, project management of highways, urban transport and parking and plays a decisive role. In order to increase the license plate recognition precisions, this paper proposes a license plate automatic recognition model (PCA-SVM) which combines principal component analysis and Support Vector Machine. First, the structural features and image grey features, such as license plate outline and strokes orders are extracted; then, the principal component analysis fuses the two types of features, reduces the dimensions and removes redundancy. Finally, Support Vector Machine is applied to establish structural feature recognition model and grey feature recognition model and final recognition results are evaluated by high confidence discrimination rules. The simulation results illustrate PCA-SVM can increase the license plate recognition precisions, and the recognition speed is fast. It can be applied in practical license plate recognition.

Abstract

Aberrant angiogenesis is essential to the development and progression of leukemia. Ginsenoside Rg3 has been commonly used in anti-angiogenic therapy of solid tumors. This study aimed to investigate the anti-angiogenic effects of Rg3 in patients with acute leukemia. Bone marrow stromal cells derived from patients with acute leukemia were treated with Rg3 and the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) was detected by RT-PCR and western blot analysis. The results showed that Rg3 inhibited VEGF and HIF-1α expression at both mRNA and protein levels in bone marrow stromal cells. In addition, Rg3 treatment led to reduced serum levels of HIF-1α and VEGF in patients with acute leukemia. Mechanistically, we demonstrated that Rg3 downregulated the phosphorylation of Akt and ERK1/2 in BMSCs. In conclusion, Rg3 exhibits anti-leukemia effect in part due to its anti-angiogenic activity via inhibiting PI3K/Akt and ERK1/2 pathways, which act to regulate the expression of HIF-1α and VEGF.

Abstract

The energy confinement of reversed field pinch (RFP) plasmas on SWIP-RFP device is studied, the energy confinement time is quantitatively calculated. The results show that the resistive toroidal voltage is about 50 V and the energy confinement time is about 45 ?s for a better discharge. It is consistent with the scaling results of the RFP devices.

Abstract

The first results of reversed field pinch (RFP) and ultra low safety factor (ULQ) plasma experiments with siliconization on SWIP-RFP device are presented in this paper. The siliconization decreases the impurity concentrations in the plasma and increases the configuration sustainment time. Ion temperature has been estimated with the CV line of the visible light spectra and the broadening of CIII lines in vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) region. The anomalous ion heating as well as the anomalous resistance were observed.

Abstract

The SWIP-RFP device has a thin stainless steel liner and its vacuum chamber is surrounded by a thick aluminum alloy shell. The toroidal coil series is a connection of 32 one-turn coils with an insulation among the coils of 5 kV. The air-core transformer has 32 turns and the poloidal field coil system is of 8 two-turn type. The insulation among the poloidal coils for the full operation voltage is 20 kV.

Abstract

Gastric cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death worldwide. However, precise molecular mechanisms underlining its development are far from clear. We recently reported that PES1 promoted development of breast cancer and ovarian cancer as an oncogene. In this study, we reported that ablation of endogenous PES1 resulted in significant suppression of cell proliferation and growth and led to cell cycle arrest in G2 or G1 phase, respectively, in two gastric cancer cell lines (AGS and N87) in vitro. Meanwhile, silencing of PES1 obviously decreased expressions of cyclin D1, HIF-1α, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expressions and increased p21WAF1 expression. Re-expression of PES1 in these two kinds of PES1 knockdown cells rescued these effects. In vivo, repression of endogenous PES1 expression suppressed gastric tumor growth in nude mice. In addition, 40.7 % (24/59) of gastric cancer tissues showed PES1 expression via immunohistochemical (IHC) staining. However, there were not any positive PES1 stainings in matched adjacent tissues. Our results demonstrated that repression of PES1 changed expressions of some cell proliferation- and angiogenesis-related genes and inhibited gastric cancer growth, and PES1 expression increased in gastric cancer tissues.
