Abstract

Recently, the increasing number of machine learning algorithms has been used in network intrusion detection system (NIDS) to detect abnormal behaviors in the network. Many available datasets were created to evaluate the performance of the model, such as KDD CUP99 and NSL-KDD. However, with the increasing scale of data and the emergence of advanced attacks, conventional machine learning algorithms can hardly perform well. Fortunately, the development of deep learning provides new direction for solving these problems. In this paper, in order to detect novel attacks in a network and improve detection efficiency, we proposed a flexible framework based on deep neural network (DNN). In our framework, we apply different feature reduction methods and activation functions to get the best performance. Moreover, through changing hyper-parameter of the model, we select better network structure. To evaluate our framework, we select ISCX 2012 and CICIDS 2017 as a benchmark and apply the proposed framework to these datasets. As a result, we observe high accuracy rate and low FAR for both binary and multi-class classifications. Overall, our proposed framework is universal and useful for detecting zero-day attacks.

Abstract

A comparative experiment was carried out to discuss the detectability and influence factors on heterogeneous distributions of the stress field for underground panels in North China. The panels are situated in the center and the eastern margin of the North China plate, having similar layouts and stress states. Seismic surveys were performed before coal extractions, and travel-time topographies for refracted P-waves from stiff roofs were computed with a ray-based inversion. The tomographic distributions of P-wave velocity were interpreted by a K-means clustering to categorize the stress fields. The estimated high-stress anomalies show strong correlations with the monitored dynamic roof ruptures and high-energy microseisms. Besides, the relationship among high-stress areas, geological factors, and mined-out voids is also discussed through feature comparisons, Monte–Carlo simulations, and point process statistics. Our results show that the curvature variations and the mined-out voids are dominant factors that affect the heterogeneous distribution of the stress field in the panels. However, the leading causes of the curvature variations in the small-scale panels are different, but they do follow the large-scale regional patterns of the geological regime. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Ordinary machine learning algorithms are not very efficient in solving the classification problem of Network Intrusion because of the huge amount of data. Deep Learning is proven to be more effective in this scenario. Deep Learning can effectively classify with high dimensionality and complex features. In this paper, a deep learning IDS is proposed using state of the art UNSW-NB15 dataset. An experiment conducted to select the optimal activation function and features and then testing on unseen data demonstrates high accuracy and lower false alarm rate. The evaluation results show that proposed classifier outperforms other machine learning models, thus opening new dimensions in research in Network Intrusion Detection.

88. In-situ hot pressing/solid-liquid reaction synthesis of bulk Cr2AlC

Abstract

Single-phase bulk Cr2AlC, a non-Ti-containing carbide with superior expected properties, was successfully fabricated by in-situ hot pressing/solid-liquid reaction process. The reaction process was investigated using differential scanning calorimetry. The products were characterized using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Four distinguished stages of the reactions from Cr, Al, and C elemental powders were discussed. The obtained X-ray diffraction data are in good agreement with calculated ones and those from JCPDS card No. 29-0017. A new set of X-ray diffraction data comprising reflections, 2θ, and intensities of Cr2AlC is presented. Lattice parameters obtained by Rietveld XRD refinement of Cr2AlC are a= 2.858 Å and c= 12.818 Å, respectively. The measured Vickers hardness of the as-synthesized Cr2AlC is 5.5 ± 0.4 GPa, which is twice that of Ti2AlC. Cr2AlC displays excellent oxidation resistance. The parabolic rate constant of Cr2AlC was decreased by 3 –4 orders of magnitude compared with those of Ti3SiC2at 1200 °C.

Abstract

Background: Atherosclerosis is the primary cause of coronary artery disease (CAD), and stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) is associated with atherosclerosis. However, the associations between variants of SCD and CAD have not yet been decided. Methods: This study analyzed SCD rs41290540 single‐nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the 3′‐untranslated region for an association with a risk of CAD among the Chinese Han population. CAD patients and controls were genotyped for SNP rs41290540 in SCD by SNaPshot. The binding affinity of miR‐498 to rs41290540 was determined by a luciferase assay, and SCD expression was assessed using Western blot. Results: A total of 969 CAD patients and 1,095 control subjects were involved in this study. The SCD rs41290540CC genotype is associated with a decreased risk of CAD compared with the AA genotype. Furthermore, the CC genotype is associated with lower serum total cholesterol (TC). Western blot analysis demonstrated that miR‐498 suppressed the expression of SCD. A luciferase assay confirmed that rs41290540 A>C variation in the SCD 3′UTR inhibits miR‐498 binding. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that the SCD rs41290540 may be associated with a decreased risk of CAD, lower serum TC, and decreased miR‐498 binding. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

95. Growth Behavior of Pristine and Potassium Doped Coronene Thin Films on Substrates with Tuned Coupling Strength

Abstract

The growth of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) molecular coronene film on various substrates and the subsequent doping of potassium under ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) conditions have been systematically investigated by low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/STS). The crystalline structures and molecular orientations of coronene thin films are both thickness-dependent and substrate-sensitive due to the competition between molecule–substrate interaction and intermolecular interaction. In mono- or bilayer films, coronene molecules are flat-lying on the surface with hexagonal lattice, whereas in multilayer films, the topmost molecules are in a standing-up but tilted configuration with rectangular lattice. In particular, a 2 × 1 superstructure with respect to that of bulk coronene is formed on thick KCl film. Furthermore, we have studied the potassium doped coronene monolayer and multilayer on Ag(100) and KCl/Ag(100) surface. For K-doped coronene monolayer, at certain doping ratio x= 3, the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of coronene film moves to the Fermi level, and a splitting of the LUMO state is observed. Increased potassium doping would result in a filled LUMO state below the Fermi level. By contrast, no well-ordered structures are obtained in the K-doped coronene multilayers which are vulnerable to rather moderate annealing processes owing to their relatively weak bonding with the supporting substrates, implying a big challenge of growth of PAH thick films in vacuum. The differences in the crystal structures of coronene thin films compared with that in bulk crystals might shed insight on the controversies in the experimental results on the electronic properties of alkali-metal-doped PAHs.

Abstract

Survey on fertility of tea garden soil in Meizhou region indicates that tea garden soil has strong acidity; organic matter content remains at medium level; there is a severe lack oof available content of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K); available calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) content is also insufficient; available sulfur (S) is abundant. In the management of tea cultivation, it is recommended to supplement organic fertilizer, balance the application of NPK fertilizer, and adequately alleviate shortage of Ca and Mg element, to guarantee high and stable yield of tea.
