63. Bus Priority Signal Control Considering Delays of Passengers and Pedestrians of Adjacent Intersections

Abstract

In this paper, a bus priority signal control (BPSC) method based on delays of passengers and pedestrians at adjacent intersections, is proposed. The influences of BPSC on passenger and pedestrian delay at adjacent intersections under the condition of coordinated control of green waves are studied. The implementation of BPSC at intersections not only reduces the delay of bus passengers, social vehicle passengers and pedestrians, but also improves the traffic flow of priority buses and social vehicles at downstream intersections. This study takes the green phase extension as an example of the active BPSC strategy, and analyzes three cases of priority vehicles reaching downstream intersection. Firstly, passenger and pedestrian delays at adjacent intersections are calculated under different traffic situations. Secondly, models with the goal of maximizing the reduced total delays are established. Thirdly, three algorithms are used to solve the problem to obtain the optimal signal timing adjustment scheme at upstream intersections. Ultimately, the result shows that the BPSC can effectively reduce pedestrian delays at intersections, protect the rights and interests of pedestrians, reduce the delays of priority vehicles, and maximize the reduced total delay., 1. 82. Pi-stacking Enhances Stability, Scalability of Formation, Control over Flexibility and Circulation Time of Polymeric Filaments

Abstract

Self-assembling filomicelles (FM) are of great interest to nanomedicine due to their structural flexibility, extensive systemic circulation time, and amenability to unique “cylinder-to-sphere” morphological transitions. However, current fabrication techniques for FM self-assembly are highly variable and difficult to scale. Here, we demonstrate that tetrablock copolymers composed of poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(propylene sulfide) (PEG-b-PPS) diblocks linked by a pi-stacking perylene bisimide (PBI) moiety permit rapid, scalable, and facile assembly of FM via the flash nanoprecipitation (FNP) method. Co-assembling the tetrablocks and PEG-b-PPS diblocks at different molar ratios resulted in mixed PBI-containing FM (mPBI-FM) with tunable length and flexibility. The flexibility of mPBI-FM can be optimized to decrease uptake by macrophages in vivo, leading to increased circulation time versus (−)PBI-FM without PBI tetrablocks after intravenous administration in mice. While PEG-b-PPS diblocks form FM within a narrow range of hydrophilic weight fractions, incorporation of pi-stacking PBI groups expanded this range to increase favorability of FM assembly. Furthermore, the aggregation-dependent fluorescence of PBI shifted during oxidation-induced “cylinder-to-sphere” transitions of mPBI-FM into micelles, resulting in a distinct emission wavelength for filamentous versus spherical nanostructures. Thus, incorporation of pi-stacking allows for rapid, scalable assembly of FM with tunable flexibility and stability for theranostic and nanomedicine applications.

96. Liberal blood transfusion strategies and associated infection in orthopedic patients

Abstract

Objective: It remains unclear whether transfusion strategies during orthopedic surgery and infection are related. The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether liberal blood transfusion strategies contribute to infection risk in orthopedic patients by analyzing randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Methods: RCTs with liberal versus restrictive red blood cell (RBC) transfusion strategies were identified by searching PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials from their inception to July 2019. Ten studies with infections as outcomes were included in the final analysis. According to the Jadad scale, all studies were considered to be of high quality. Results: Ten trials involving 3938 participants were included in this study. The pooled risk ratio (RR) for the association between liberal transfusion strategy and infection was 1.34 (95% confidence intervals [CI], 0.94–1.90; P = .106). The sensitivity analysis indicated unstable results, and no significant publication bias was observed. Conclusion: This pooled analysis of RCTs demonstrates that liberal transfusion strategies in orthopedic patients result in a nonsignificant increase in infections compared with more restrictive strategies. The conclusions are mainly based on retrospective studies and should not be considered as recommendation before they are supported by larger scale and well-designed RCTs.
