As two important members of two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides, ReS2 and ReSe2 have gained interest for optoelectronic and photonic applications. The key to the application of the 2D materials to the optoelectronic devices is to understand the interaction between light and matter. Here, we report that the chemical vapor deposition-grown few-layer ReS2 and ReSe2 display saturable absorption under 400 nm pulse excitation, measured through intensity dependent transmission and confirmed by ΔT/T spectroscopy. ΔT/T spectroscopy substantiates the coexistence of saturable absorption and excited state absorption at 800 nm for both ReS2 and ReSe2. Two time constants are extracted from time-resolved spectroscopy; the short time constant of 10–20 ps is associated with the relaxation of hot carriers and exciton formation, and the long time constant of 70–100 ps is assigned to exciton lifetime. The polarization dependence of ΔT/T reveals that the initial distribution of photoexcited carriers centered at excitation state is anisotropic, and this initial anisotropy loses rapidly with carrier relaxation. The nonequilibrium carriers scattered far away from excitation state are fully isotropic in the entire relaxation process. As one of the representatives of emerging metallic transition-metal dichalcogenides, niobium ditelluride (NbTe2) has attracted intensive interest recently due to its distorted lattice structure and unique physical properties. Here, we report on the ultrafast carrier dynamics in NbTe2 measured using time-resolved pump–probe transient reflection spectroscopy. A thickness-dependent carrier relaxation time is observed, exhibiting a clear increase in the fast and slow carrier decay rates for thin NbTe2 flakes. In addition, pump-power-dependent measurements indicate that the carrier relaxation rates are power-independent and the peak amplitude of the transient reflectivity increases linearly with the pump power. The isotropic relaxation dynamics in NbTe2 is also verified by performing polarization-resolved pump–probe measurements. These results provide insight into the light–matter interactions and charge-carrier dynamics in NbTe2 and will pave the way for its applications to photonic and optoelectronic devices. We apply a finite-difference algorithm that combines the local one-dimensional approximation and the Crank-Nicolson algorithms to solve the three-dimensional nonlinear Schrodinger equation. This scheme is unconditionally stable and accurate to second order. Therefore it offers a simple and accurate means to study a two-dimensional Z scan for arbitrary beam shape and medium length. As an example, we analyze the characteristics of a Z scan by utilizing an elliptic Gaussian beam for a thick nonlinear medium. The effects of ellipticity and waist separation of the elliptic beam on the normalized transmittance the closed-aperture and open-aperture Z scan are demonstrated. Optical nonlinearities of five new organophosphorus fullerene derivatives with similar structures were determined by the Z-scan method by use of a nanosecond-pulse laser at 532 nm. The experimental results demonstrate that the five derivatives have much larger excited-state absorption and nonlinear refraction than [C.sub.60]. The excited-state absorption cross sections are nearly two to three times that of [C.sub.60]. Using a five-level model to fit the experimental data, we obtained some parameters such as excited-state absorption and refraction cross sections. A simple analysis of correlations between molecular structure and nonlinear properties is given. Optical nonlinearities of the five new organophosphorus fullerene derivatives were compared with those of some other kinds of fullerene derivatives, and the results show that the nonlinearities of the new derivatives are the larger. By variational approach, we analyze the characteristics of beam propagation through a cubic optical nonlinear medium using a laser beam that has a transverse elliptic Gaussian profile. The analytic solution to the normalized transmittance at the center of the far field as a function of medium position and the beam characteristics is obtained and compared with the numerical simulation, which is realized by a combination of algorithms. We also analyze the peak-valley transmittance difference as a function of medium length, ellipticity, and astigmatism. The relationship between peak-valley normalized transmittance difference of the z-scan trace and aperture size or the slit width are obtained. Meanwhile, the comparison of z-scan characteristics with an elliptic Gaussian beam with those using a circular symmetric Gaussian beam is made.

The pressure–temperature (P‐T) path of blueschist is usually applied to understanding the evolution of the subducted oceanic crust. Garnet plays a key role in calculating the metamorphic conditions, but sometimes it is absent in the blueschists. Nevertheless, the high‐P experimental simulation may serve as a useful tool to constrain the P‐T conditions. In the middle of the Longmu Co‐Shuanghu Suture, North Tibet, blueschist blocks embedded in the marble were discovered, where garnet is abundant in the core but absent in the marble‐contacting margin. These two kinds of blueschist contain similar mineral assemblage (glaucophane, epidote, and phengite) and show comparable basaltic character. Pseudosection modelling was applied to the garnet‐bearing blueschist that calculated the peak metamorphic condition of ca. 1.9 GPa and 530°C. As for the garnet‐absent blueschist, experiments (1.2–2.3 GPa and 500–800°C) were performed on the designed mixture of 93 wt% basalt and 7 wt% calcite. The results show that the total Fe content in the glaucophane and barroisite is positively correlated with the pressure but not with temperature, which could be regarded as a geobarometer. Accordingly, the peak condition was constrained at 2.3 GPa and 500–600°C. Therefore, the equivalent metamorphic conditions of the blueschists indicate that the Palaeo‐Tethys oceanic crust subducted into at least 70 km. Furthermore, both the experiments and the T‐X (CaCO3) pseudosection, constructed based on basaltic lithology, support that the absence of garnet in the blueschist is predominantly caused by the mixing of calcite. In summary, this study provides a valid attempt in exploring metamorphic conditions by experiment simulation, and evaluates the profound influence of the interaction between the basaltic crust and overlying carbonate‐bearing sediments in the subduction zone. Tunable optical properties could expand the functionalities of optoelectronic devices, so exploring materials with tunable optical properties is important for the development of high-performance optoelectronic devices. CuInP2S6 (CIPS) is a ferroelectric layered material with a Curie temperature of 315 K. The low phase transition temperature provides the possibility of conveniently modulating the optical properties of CIPS for device applications via temperature control. Here, we study the temperature-tunable photoluminescence (PL) and ultrafast nonlinear absorption of CIPS under ferroelectric–paraelectric phase transition, and reveal the temperature-dependence mechanism from a photoexcited carrier relaxation process. We observe broadband PL emission around 592 nm from defect-states and significant two-photon absorption at 800 nm, and time-resolved PL and transient absorption spectroscopies indicate that the carrier relaxation process consists of rapid intraband scattering, interband nonradiative recombination, charge transfer from the conduction band minimum to defect-bands and subsequent rapid intra-defect-band relaxation and slow defect-state assisted recombinations. As the temperature increases, the PL emission intensity and excitation efficiency decrease significantly due to enhanced nonradiative recombination at defect-states; meanwhile, the two-photon absorption coefficient increases and the carrier relaxation times are unchanged although phonon-scattering enhances the nonradiative recombination process. Our findings reveal the temperature behavior of the CIPS optical response under phase transition and pave the way for designing CIPS-based temperature-tunable optoelectronic devices. Recently, palladium diselenide (PdSe2) has emerged as a promising material with potential applications in electronic and optoelectronic devices due to its intriguing electronic and optical properties. The performance of the device is strongly dependent on the charge–carrier dynamics and the related hot phonon behavior. Here, we investigate the photoexcited–carrier dynamics and coherent acoustic phonon (CAP) oscillations in mechanically exfoliated PdSe2 flakes with a thickness ranging from 10.6 nm to 54 nm using time-resolved non-degenerate pump–probe transient reflection (TR) spectroscopy. The results imply that the CAP frequency is thickness-dependent. Polarization-resolved transient reflection (PRTR) measurements reveal the isotropic charge–carrier relaxation dynamics and the CAP frequency in the 10.6 nm region. In addition, the deformation potential (DP) mechanism dominates the generation of the CAP. Moreover, a sound velocity of 6.78 × 103 m s−1 is extracted from the variation of the oscillation period with the flake thickness and the delay time of the acoustic echo. These results provide insight into the ultrafast optical coherent acoustic phonon and optoelectronic properties of PdSe2 and may open new possibilities for PdSe2 applications in THz-frequency mechanical resonators.
