Objective: To investigate surgical methods for the removal of larger ear keloids. Methods: Two different surgical techniques were used: Method A, tumour excision followed by in situ scar flap repair; and Method B, wedge resection of an auricular lesion followed by primary closure or local flap repair. After the treatment, patients received postoperative, local radiotherapy. Follow‐up was for 1–3 years (median 28.9 months). Results: Twenty patients with 35 large ear keloids were reviewed. In Method A, six ears were cured, three ears improved, five ears relapsed after 1 year and one ear recurred within 1 year. In Method B, 17 ears were cured, two ears improved and one ear recurred within 1 year. Conclusion: Keloid scars can be effectively treated with a combination of radiotherapy and surgical excision. Background: Acute postoperative urinary retention (POUR) is a common complication in patients with ischemic stroke following femoral artery puncture (FAP), leading to discomfort, delayed hospital discharge, and increased patient morbidity. The relevant risk factors are unclear; thus, a predictive tool is required to guide treatment decisions., Objective: To develop and validate a nomogram to predict acute POUR in patients with ischemic stroke following FAP., Methods: We retrospectively collected cases from 1729 patients with ischemic stroke from the electronic record system of Jiangmen Central Hospital from January 2021 to December 2023. A total of 731 patients were randomly divided into development ( n  = 511, 70%) and validation ( n  = 220, 30%) groups. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses with backward stepwise regression were used to select the predictive variables, and a nomogram was developed. The discrimination was evaluated based on the area under the curve (AUC). Calibration was assessed using calibration plots and the Hosmer-Lemeshow test. Clinical applications were evaluated using decision curve analysis (DCA)., Results: The incidence of acute POUR was 12.72%. Preoperative statin use within 24 h, operation type, intraoperative infusion, postoperative water intake within 3 h, postoperative pain, and postoperative anxiety were included in the nomogram. The AUC values were 0.764 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.705-0.825] in the development group and 0.741 (95% CI: 0.615-0.856) in the validation group. The calibration plots showed good calibration. The p values in the Hosmer-Lemeshow tests were 0.962 and 0.315 for the development and validation groups, respectively. The DCA showed that patients could benefit from this nomogram., Conclusion: A nomogram was developed to successfully predict acute POUR in patients with ischemic stroke following FAP. Visual cortex anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (a-tDCS) has been shown to reduce crowding in normal peripheral vision and may improve the reading of English words in patients with macular degeneration. Given the different visual requirements of reading English words and Chinese characters, the effect of a-tDCS on peripheral reading performance in English might differ from Chinese. This study recruited 20 participants (59-73 years of age) with normal vision and tested the hypothesis that a-tDCS would improve the reading of Chinese characters presented at 10° eccentricity compared with sham stimulation. Chinese sentences of different print sizes and exposure durations were presented one character at a time, 10° below or to the left of fixation. The individual critical print size (CPS) - the smallest print size eliciting the maximum reading speed (MRS) - was determined. Reading accuracies for characters presented 0.2 logMAR smaller than the individually fitted CPS were measured at four time points: before, during, 5 min after, and 30 min after receiving active or sham visual cortex a-tDCS. Participants completed both the active and sham sessions in a random order following a double-blind, within-subject design. No effect of active a-tDCS on reading accuracy was observed, implying that a single session of a-tDCS did not improve Chinese character reading in normal peripheral vision. This may suggest that a-tDCS does not significantly reduce the crowding elicited within a single Chinese character.
