This communication is aimed at presenting the flow behavior of viscoplastic materials in a channel driven-cavity by utilizing the Bingham constitutive equation in conjunction with the modification proposed by Papanastasiou. The whole system has been represented by a model consisting of coupled nonlinear partial differential equations. In addition, the governing equations were nondimensionalized by making use of the appropriate set of variables and the computations were carried out using the finite element method. A finite element space including quadratic polynomial ℙ 2 is chosen for the approximation of velocity profiles whilst a space containing linear polynomials is used for the estimation of pressure ℙ 1 . The hydrodynamics forces like drag and lift values on cylindrical obstacle whose center is located at (1.5, 1.5) are computed against various values of Bingham number. Environmental flows (EFs), essential for upholding the ecological integrity of rivers and aquatic habitats, have been disrupted significantly by diverting water for agricultural, industrial and domestic uses. This underscores the imperative of implementing sustainable water resource management to harmonize agricultural and environmental needs. The study was conducted in the Indus River Basin (IRB), a region extensively transformed by human interventions. EFs were determined through various techniques, including the flow duration curve shifting method, flow duration curve analysis, low‐flow indices, the Tennant method, the Smakhtin approach, the Tessmann method and the Pastor method. Analysing the estimated EFs alongside downstream flows unveiled specific timeframes (days, months and seasons) of unmet EF requirements. To safeguard the downstream ecosystems, the following EFs were estimated for the respective locations: 880 m3/s (38% of the mean annual flow [MAF]) for the Indus River at Tarbela Dam, 412 m3/s (48% of the MAF) for the Jhelum at Mangla Dam, 425 m3/s (44% of the MAF) for the Chenab at Marala headworks, 389 m3/s (56% of MAF) for the Ravi at Balloki headworks, 184 m3/s (50% of MAF) for the Sutlej at Sulemanki headworks and 231 m3/s (38% of MAF) below Kotri Barrage. The study revealed that violations of EFs occurred 41%, 43%, 44% and 52% of the time during the study period for the Chenab at Marala headworks, the Ravi at Balloki headworks, the Sutlej at Sulemanki headworks and the Indus River at the Kotri Barrage, respectively. The results highlighted that the Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers are particularly susceptible to vulnerability, as the estimated EFs were not consistently upheld in these rivers. These findings underscore the urgent need to take appropriate measures to ensure EFs are not violated, thus safeguarding the downstream ecosystems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Three‐River Headwater Region, also known as China's water tower, is highly sensitive to climate change and has experienced profound hydrological alterations in the last few decades. This study assessed the potential impacts of climate change on all the important hydrological components such as precipitation, evapotranspiration, streamflow, snow‐melt flow, and soil moisture (SM) content in the region. For this, climate data (i.e., temperature, precipitation, relative humidity, and windspeed) of three Global Climate Models (i.e., CanESM5, MPI‐ESM1.2‐HR, and NorESM2‐MM) was downscaled with the Statistical DownScaling Model (SDSM) and their ensemble was forced into a hydrological model to simulate the hydrological processes for 1981–2100. The screening process, which is central to all downscaling techniques, is very subjective in the SDSM. Therefore, we developed a quantitative screening approach by modifying the method applied by Mahmood and Babel (2013, https://doi.org/10.1007/s00704‐012‐0765‐0) for the selection of a set of logical predictors to cope with multi‐collinearity and their ranking. The analyses were performed for the near future period (NFP, 2021–2060) and far future period (FFP, 2061–2100) relative to the baseline period (BLP, 1981–2020). The results showed that the region will be hotter and wetter in the future, with intensive and frequent floods. For example, temperature, precipitation, evapotranspiration, and streamflow will increase by 1.0–1.5 (1–1.9)°C, 9–21 (15–27)%, 6–17 (9–29)%, and 9–46 (22–64)% in the NFP and by 2.0–2.8 (2.7–4.6)°C, 16–40 (43–87)%, 11–31 (24–73)%, and 20–95 (60–198)% in the FFP, respectively, under SSP2‐4.5 (SSP5‐8.5). Similar projections were explored for other hydrological components. Among all, surface flow showed an unprecedented increase (500%–1,000%) in the FFP. Peak flows will be much higher and will shift forward, and snowmelt will start earlier in the future. The results of the present study can be a good source for understanding the hydrological cycle and be used for the planning and management of water resources of the highly elevated and complex region of the Qinghai Tibetan Plateau. Plain Language Summary: The Three‐River Headwater Region, which is also known as the Sanjiangyuan in Chinese, is located in Qinghai Tibetan Plateau, China. It is considered the water tower of China because it is the source of three giant rivers the Yangtze, Yellow, and Lancang (Mekong). However, its water resources (hydrological cycle) are very sensitive and vulnerable to changing climate. Therefore, we assessed the potential impact of climate change on all the important hydrological components such as precipitation, streamflow, snow melt flow, surface flow, baseflow, soil moisture (SM), and changes in terrestrial water storage. Previous studies mainly focused on precipitation, streamflow, and SM. Global Climate Models (GCMs) are the main tool to assess the future changes in hydrological components under changing climate. Since GCMs have a coarse spatial resolution and biases in their outputs, a statistical downscaling model (SDSM) was applied to fix these issues and used to generate climate data (e.g., temperature and precipitation) for the future (2021–2100) under two scenarios (i.e., SSP2‐4.5 and SSP5‐8.5). These scenarios represent the global development and greenhouse gas emissions in the future. SSP2‐4.5 scenario typically involves moderate greenhouse gas emissions reduction efforts and some adaptation and mitigation measures to address climate change impacts, and SSP5‐8.5 represents high greenhouse gas emissions and limited efforts to mitigate climate change impacts. The results showed that the region will be hotter and wetter in the future, with intensive and frequent floods. Almost all components are expected to increase in the future under both scenarios. Among all, surface flow showed an unprecedented increase (500%–1,000%) in the second half of the twenty‐first century (2061–2100). Peak flows are expected to be much higher than the present conditions and to shift forward. Snowmelt will start earlier in the future. This study will be very useful in understanding the hydrological cycle and can be used by policymakers, planners, and stakeholders for proactive adaptation strategies such as water resources planning and management, investments in water infrastructure, land use planning, ecosystem restoration, and community resilience‐building initiatives to mitigate potential risks. This study explains the entropy process of natural convective heating in the nanofluid-saturated cavity in a heated fin and magnetic field. The temperature is constant on the Y-shaped fin, insulating the top wall while the remaining walls remain cold. All walls are subject to impermeability and non-slip conditions. The mathematical modeling of the problem is demonstrated by the continuity, momentum, and energy equations incorporating the inclined magnetic field. For elucidating the flow characteristics Finite Element Method (FEM) is implemented using stable FE pair. A hybrid fine mesh is used for discretizing the domain. Velocity and thermal plots concerning parameters are drawn. In addition, a detailed discussion regarding generation energy by monitoring changes in magnetic, viscous, total, and thermal irreversibility is provided. In addition, line graphs are created for the u and v components of the velocity profile to predict the flow behavior. Current simulations assume the dimensionless representative of magnetic field Hartmann number Ha between 0 and 100 and a magnetic field inclination between 0 and 90 degrees. The cultivation of summer vegetables in open-air nutrient film technique (NFT) hydroponics is limited due to the elevated nutrient solution temperature (NST). In this regard, non-electric evaporative-cooling techniques were explored to maintain NST in open-air NFT hydroponics. Four cooling setups were employed by wrapping polyvinyl chloride (PVC) grow pipes with one and two layers of either wet or dry jute fabrics and attaching them with coiled aluminum pipe buried inside a) wet sand-filled brick tunnels (Cooling Setup I), b) two inverted and vertically stacked earthen pots (Cooling Setup II), c) two inverted and vertically stacked earthen pots externally wrapped with wet jute fabric (Wrapped Cooling Setup II), and d) an earthen pitcher wrapped with wet jute fabric (Cooling Setup III). Wrapping grow pipes with two layers of wet jute fabric reduced NST by 5°C as compared to exposed (naked) grow pipes. The doublelayer jute fabric-wrapped grow pipes produced 182% more reduction in NST in comparison to single layer-wrapped grow pipes. Additionally, the installation of Wrapped Cooling Setup II and Cooling Setup III outperformed Cooling Setup I and Cooling Setup II through NST reduction of approximately 4°C in comparison to control. Interestingly, Cooling Setup III showed its effectiveness through NST reductions of 193%, 88%, and 23% during 11 a.m.-12 p.m. as compared to Cooling Setup I, Cooling Setup II, and Wrapped Cooling Setup II, respectively. In contrast, Wrapped Cooling Setup II caused NST reductions of 168%, 191%, and 18% during 2-3 p.m. in comparison to Cooling Setup I, Cooling Setup II, and Cooling Setup III, respectively. Thus, the double-layer jute fabric-wrapped grow pipes linked with Wrapped Cooling Setup II can ensure summer vegetable cultivation in open-air NFT hydroponics as indicated by the survival of five out of 12 vegetable plants till harvest by maintaining NST between 26°C and 28°C. The composition of microbial communities and the functioning of ecosystems are greatly influenced by the nutrient inputs. Despite this fact, our knowledge regarding the impact of phosphorus (P) inputs on soil P availability and microbial community structures in subtropical acidic soils remains limited. We hypothesized that diverse P inputs, incubation temperatures, and soil types could significantly alter soil P availability and microbial communities. To address this gap, we conducted a laboratory incubation experiment, investigating the effects of biochar and inorganic P amendments on soil available P, soil pH, acid phosphatase enzymes, and bacterial abundance. We employed two different incubation temperatures (15 °C and 25 °C) using acidic paddy soil and red soil from the subtropical Southern China region. Our results indicate a notable increase in soil pH, reaching 37% and 39% at 15 °C and 40% and 40.6% at 25 °C, respectively, following the application of biochar and inorganic P amendments in paddy soil. In the case of red soil, we observed pH increases of 41% and 43% at 15 °C and 44% and 45% at 25 °C after the application of biochar and inorganic P amendment, respectively. The addition of inorganic P amendment resulted in the highest available P contents in paddy soil, reaching 111.47 mg/kg at 15 °C and 100.17 mg/kg at 25 °C, respectively. However, Proteobacteria decreased after inorganic P addition, which showed that P might not be the only limiting nutrient for various bacterial communities. Bacterial diversity and richness indices were found to be higher after biochar application in both soils. Gemmatimonadetes, Acidobacteria, and Actinobacteria were found to be strongly influenced by incubation temperatures, whereas most of the top abundant bacterial phyla, such as Gemmatimonadetes, Actinobacteria, Chloroflexi, Acidobacteria, Planctomycetes, Firmicutes, Patescibacteria, and Bacteroidetes, were highly dependent on soil type. At the genus level, various important P solubilizing genera (Pseudomonas, Bradyrhizobium, Streptomyces jietaisiensis, Massilia) significantly increased after biochar and inorganic P addition in both soils. The correlation analysis proved that P-solubilizing genera were significantly associated with changes in soil pH, as well as soil available P after biochar and inorganic P addition. Conclusively, in a short-term incubation experiment, inorganic P amendment greatly increased the soil pH and available phosphorus contents compared to biochar and control treatments; however, the microbial community was observed to be strongly associated with biochar application, soil type, and incubation temperature. This paper presents an experimental study to investigate the change of plug length for pipe pile under different state of saturation and investigate the effect of number of pipe piles on plug length. The influence of matric suction (i.e., capillary stresses) in unsaturated zone is typically considered on the plug length of pipe piles. The experimental work consist of testing 20 models of pipe piles, these models divided into 4 different configuration of pipe piles; single pipe pile, group of double pipe piles, group of triple pipe piles and group of six pipe piles. All these models are loaded and tested under three different states; dry condition, fully saturated condition (i.e., matric suction equals to 0 kPa) and unsaturated conditions with three different matric suction values (6, 8 and 10 kPa), which are achieved by predetermined lowering of water table. The relationship between matric suction and depth of ground water table was measured in suction profile set by using three Tensiometers (IRROMETER). The soil, water characteristic curve (SWCC) was estimated by applying fitting methods through the program (Soil Vision). The results of experimental work demonstrate that the values of plug length decreased with increase in value of matric suction for the same configuration of pipe piles, and the values of plug length decreased with increase in number of pipe piles.

In the present study, three-dimensional analysis is presented to investigate the effect of pile dimensions and configuration on the dynamic response of piled raft foundations subjected to vertical vibration. The analysis considered several factors affecting the maximum amplitude of vertical displacement of deep foundation such as length, diameter, number of piles, and spacing between piles. Furthermore, a validation for experimental piled raft models depending on a scale factor of (20) using (Plaxis 3D) computer software is presented. The sand is simulated using the (mohr-coloumb) model, while the concrete is simulated as a linear elastic material. It has been found that the increasing length and diameter of piles lead to a decrease in the maximum amplitude of displacement. On the other hand, the results showed that the increasing number of piles and increasing the spacing between piles can minimize the dynamic response of the foundation.

This paper presents an experimental study conducted on model piled rafts in partially saturated sandy soil. The aim of the experimental program is to study the effect of matric suction on the load carrying capacity of piled rafts embedded within partially saturated sandy soil .The influence of number of piles are presented and discussed in this study. The piled raft is arranged in different configurations of piles (single, double and triple piled raft with spacing 3.5D c/c) with the same area ratio (raft area to the cross section area of piles) to avoid different contact pressure area and to show the effect of different piles number and its group action. The influence of matric suction (i.e., capillary stresses) in partially saturated zone is typically not taken into account in the conventional design of both shallow and deep foundations so that the present research study the determination and contribution of matric suction towards the load carrying capacity of piled raft. The experimental work consist of 3 models of footing "single piled raft (8.3 x 5) cm, double piled (16.6 x 5) cm and triple piled raft (25 x 5) cm". All these models are loaded and tested under both of fully saturated condition (i.e., matric suction equals to 0kPa) and unsaturated conditions (i.e., matric suction value equals to 6kPa , 8kPa and 10kPa), which are achieved by predetermined lowering of water table.
