Sijo is representative of Choson period poetry. Its poetic form was established in late Koryo period, but flourished to a greater extent under Choson period. The form of sijo applies only to the standard form called plain sijo or p’yong sijo. The other two forms are called medium or oss sijo which is expanded in syllabic count, most often in the first phrase-grouping or the second in the first line and sometimes in the last or middle line, adding two or three more phrase-groups to standard form. And long sijo or sasol sijo, retaining three line structure, is almost formless, expanded in every line and mostly in the middle into hundreds of syllables. Sijo is, first and foremost, a song. Sijo was sung or chanted with musical accompaniment, and this tradition survives. The word originally referred only to the music, but it has come to be identified with the lyrics.

The optimum spatial profiling of blade vanes of GTE compressor stages is considered on the basis of calculation of a three-dimensional viscid stream. The simultaneous varying of geometrical parameters of blades and blade cascades in their profiling substantially accelerates the procedure of parametric optimization. As an integral criterion of minimization of different types of hydraulic losses the efficiency of compressor stages is used. The coefficient of hydraulic resistance is shown to decrease as compared to the initial vane, in a wide range of incidence angles, as a result of experimental research of the optimized output straight vane cascade of a stationary GTE compressor.

We consider a family of linear elastic shells of thickness 2e, all having the same middle surface \(S=\varphi(\omega)\subset \mathbb{R}^3,\) where \(\omega\subset \mathbb{R}^2\) is a bounded and connected open set with a Lipschitz-continuous boundary ∂ω. The shells are clamped on a portion of their lateral face, whose middle line is φ(γ0), where γ0 is a portion of ∂ω with length(γ0) > 0. In this study, we have a research of the impounding experimental research of large span aqueduct. Caohe aqueduct is the mark building of the middle line of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, of which the span is 30m. For this aqueduct, the structure is relatively complicated with great technical difficulties, what’s more there's no engineering experience or theoretical method to provide reference in domestic and abroad. It can be seen clear that whether the actual stressing state, deformation conditions and prestressed tension effect etc. meet the design requirements will directly affect the safe operation of aqueduct, so the impounding experiment of the aqueduct was carried out before formal operation.

Based on the investigation, the author puts forward a variety of adverse impacts of South-North Water Diversion Middle-Line Project on agricultural water in Jingmen. For examples, the land resource utilization is reduced; the farmland irrigation water cannot be guaranteed; the pollution of agricultural water is very serious. Combining the characteristics of South - North Water Diversion Project with the agricultural development in Jingmen, some countermeasures are provided in this paper, such as enhancing soil-water protection relying on related laws and policies, developing water resources and optimizing the use of water sources, adjusting the planting structure by adopting water-saving irrigation projects, developing dry farming and water-saving agriculture, controlling water pollution, and so on.

Based on elements of classical philosophy, the British common sense and the Frankfurt School, the author proposes a critically guided common sense, which could be used to evaluate historical tendencies and specially the modernization efforts in the Third World. It rejects the pretensions of truth of rationalist theories and also the epistemic and ethic relativism. Avoiding extremes, this theorem rejects the existence of obligatory laws and periods of historical development is one of these extremes; the other one is the position which states that cultural models are incomparable and unmeasurable. It is reasonable, for instance, to take a middle line between universalism and particularism and also to reach a fruitful synthesis between both currents.

The shear strength of expansive soils is now a key geotechnical problem. The water content and dry density of expansive soils have deep effect on its shear strength. For analyzing the detail relationship of the water content, dry density and shear strength of this special soil, direct shear test was carried out with the samples from Xinxiang in middle line of South to North water diversion project. The results indicate that both of the cohesion and friction angle grow with dry density and decrease with initial water content. Applying the linear regression calculation, we obtained mathematical expressions which reveal the variation of shear strength with the dry density and initial water content of Xinxiang expansive soils.

As one of national important engineering, South-to- North Water Transfer middle line crossed the Beijing subway route 1. Various controlling technologies of deforming were applied during construction of water tunnel in order to control the deformation of the existing subway tunnel. At the same time, automatic monitoring technology was applied too. By the system analysis of monitoring data and controlling measures, the rule of structure deformation is concluded and the validity and fitness of controlling measures are validated. At last, it is useful experience for similar engineering.

Taking the properties of aqueduct in the middle line of the South-North Water Diversion Project, such as high flow, long span, large load and cross section and so on, two schemes about layout of prestressed steel strands are put forward. In order to guarantee safety of the project and structural optimization, 3-D FEM is adopted to study the regularity of distribution of stress and strain on control section under each condition of the two schemes. The results show that the design of steel strands in the first scheme (wavy steel strands) is much more reasonable and meets the requirements for anti-crack and deflection of the aqueduct body.

This paper introduces some key technologies like image compression, image transmission and im video surveillance system age storage in the process of the middle line of the south to north water transfer project brake stood monitoring system, and to analyses the basic function like video surveillance, video control, video service, video coding, video search as well as video storage , in order to provide some references for the decision support system about river basin of water dispatching decision and management.

In the part of the middle line of the South-North Water Transfer Project£¬the quality of concrete surface of ¢ñsection in Jiaozuo has been improved obviously through the method of external insulation board, so it deserves to bepopularized.

In order to simulate the seepage field with drain pipes, the air element method is used in this paper. In this method, the pipe elements are regarded as a kind of material with high permeability coefficient and an equivalent hydraulic conductivity is assigned to them. Thus these pipe elements can be included in the conventional seepage calculation as other common elements. Moreover, the difficulty of giving water head boundary to the inner surface of pipes directly is avoided. According to the seepage calculation of the channel with large number of drain pipes in Huangyou part of the middle line in South-to-North water transfer project, the results show that, with drainage-piping, the pore water pressure in channel foundation is reduced significantly.

A research program is currently underway with the purpose of developing a double-layer air jet looms with solo-supported gas device. Issues related to the design and feasibility analysis of the solo-supported high pressure gas device are discussed. The results of simulations show that assistant nozzle is necessary during weft insertion motion, but too many assistant nozzles would cause the flow velocity reduce. And it is confirmed that flow channel with one main and four assistant nozzles is one of the best designs to keep the flow velocity at the middle line of flow channel more than 90m/s and make the loom work swimmingly.

In order to meet the running needs of the first-stage construction in the middle line of South-to-North Water Transfer Project, the canal lining of both sides of Yellow River Tunnels Project need the use of mechanized equipment construction in order to improve the quality and efficiency of lining construction, there is a need to study the feasibility of the use of polypropylene fiber concrete instead of reinforced concrete in canal lining. This paper analyzes the effect of polypropylene fiber on concrete shrinkage and crack resistance. The results show that all three polypropylene fibers have properties of a low density and high elongation, the dispersivity test results show that dispersivity is better when stirring fiber A after a certain period of time. After the incorporation of polypropylene fibers, the concrete splitting tensile strength is significantly increased, altogether with ultimate tensile value and frost resistance. The incorporation of polypropylene fibers increases the tensile strength of concrete and improve the toughness of it. Compared with standard concrete, the early shrinkage of polypropylene fiber concrete is significantly lower, the incorporation of polypropylene fibers can take the place of steel mesh in concrete cracking, especially in the early control of concrete cracks, it can effectively prevent and suppress the cracks formation and development. This paper recommends the concrete proportioning parameters meeting the requirements of canal lining concrete technology and construction.

The purpose of the present study was to determine the locations of the supraorbital foramen (SOF) and the infraorbital foramen (IOF) relative to soft- and hard-tissue landmarks. It will provide more accurate data for dental and facial surgery. Twenty embalmed adult cadavers (40 sides; 16 men, 4 women) were dissected to expose the SOFs and IOFs, and another 46 skulls (92 sides) were also measured for further study. The locations of the SOFs and IOFs were evaluated with direct and photographic measurements. The data gained were analyzed by statistical method. The horizontal distances between the SOFs/IOFs and the medial canthus to the distance between the medial canthus and the lateral canthus ratios have been measured, and their confidence intervals are 0.22 to 0.31 and 0.34 to 0.49, respectively, and their linear regression equations are EF = 0.58 CF + 25.02 (unit: mm) and EF = 0.51 DG + 24.20 (unit: mm). The vertical distance between IOFs/SOFs and the medial/lateral canthi are 25.09 ± 3.36 mm/23.91 ± 3.31 mm and 25.75 ± 3.34 mm/26.93 ± 3.88 mm, respectively. The horizontal angle between IOFs/SOFs and the medial/lateral canthi are 72.54 ± 7.13 degrees, 66.77 ± 5.17 degrees, 47.45 ± 6.57 degrees, 54.69 ± 8.38 degrees, respectively. Based on the hard tissues, The SOF localized 20.55 ± 3.24 mm medial and 13.78 ± 2.60 mm superior to the zygomaticofrontal suture. And the horizontal angle between them is 56.04 ± 6.87 degrees. The IOF localized 18.52 ± 2.30 mm medial and 30.79 ± 3.29 inferior to the zygomaticofrontal suture. The horizontal angle between them is 31.06 ± 4.33 degrees. We also found that most (96.81%) of the IOFs were located below the middle line of the zygomatic arch. These results may provide more detailed information about the locations of SOF and IOF. And they will facilitate prediction of the locations of IOF and SOF in clinical procedure.

Obturator hernia is a rare hernia in the world, diagnosed late since it has no specific symptoms and findings and generally occur in thin and old women with comorbidity.For this reason obturator hernia has high morbidity and mortality rates. In this study, we present an obturator hernia case that Howship-Romberg sign is positive and has typical appearance in computerized tomography. Laparotomy was performed on 89 years old female patient with body mass index 18.08 kg/m(2) by low middle line incision. Following the segmentectomy to the strangulated small bowel loop, obturator canal is repaired by retroperitoneal application. No complication occurred in the postoperative period. Obturator hernia should be taken into consideration in old and thin female patients with intestinal obstruction. Computerized tomography should be performed for early diagnosis of the obturator hernia.

Cao river aqueduct is the mark building at main channel of the middle line of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, of which the 30m span is the largest aqueduct in Asia for its span, and its structure is relatively complicated, which is the large-scale aqueduct that has been designed and constructed for the first time in China with great technical difficulties in structure form. For it will directly affect the safe operation of aqueduct that whether the actual stressing state, deformation conditions, prestress effect and etc. meet the design requirements, the impounding test of trial span was carried out before formal operation. As it can be seen from the test results analysis, aqueduct structure is under a good elastic working condition with about 1.00mm maximum deflection at mid-span and meets the design and specification requirements, which means the structure of aqueduct is reasonably designed, and structure operation is safe and reliable. In the meantime, the stress characteristics and deformation law of aqueduct structure has been mastered more overall and deeply according to the research on the impounding test, which provides important reference for later operation and management.

In this paper an analysis of moving sound source localization via headphones is presented. Also the influence of the inter-click interval on this localization is studied. The experimental sound is a short delta sound of 5 ms, generated for the horizontal frontal plane, for distances from 0.5 m to 5 m and azimuth of 32° to both left and right sides with respect of the middle line of the listener head convolutioned with individual HRTFs. The results indicate that the best accurate localization was achieved for the ICI of 150 ms. Comparing the localization accuracy in distance and azimuth is deduced that the best results have been achieved for azimuth. The results show that the listeners are able to extract accurately the distance and direction of the moving sound for larger inter-click intervals.

Dasybranchetus pacifica, collected in Concepcion Bay, Baja California Sur, Gulf of California, is described as a new species. In addition, the type species of the genus, Dasybranchetus fauveli Monro, 1931, is redescribed based on type material. The new species differs from D. fauveli in the absence of branchiae, the begining of the mid-dorsal lobe from chaetiger 2 instead of chaetiger 9, abdominal segments with well-developed neuropodial lobes, and hooded hooks with a main fang and three rows of subapical teeth in the following arrangement: 4 teeth in the basal line, 3 in the middle line, and 2 in the apical line.

An analytical solution of the problem of the forced flexural oscillations of a rod with fixed hinged supports is presented. The rod has close natural frequencies of flexural oscillations in two mutually perpendicular planes due to the close values of the principal axial moments of inertia of the cross-section. The geometrical non-linearity, due to the change in the length of the middle line of the rod when it undergoes three-dimensional motion, is taken into account. The oscillations of the rod in the neighbourhood of the principal and first superharmonic resonances are investigated.

This study reports on the findings of longitudinal follow-up of visual function in a 12-year-old girl affected by congenital right hemihydranencephaly. This extremely rare unilateral brain malformation allowed the authors to gather new information on neuronal plasticity and functional compensations of the visual system across a period of 10 years. An extension of the preserved right visual hemifields above the middle line and strategical eye or head positions developed to increase visual functions are discussed. In addition, ophthalmological and orthoptical findings, as well as the development of monocular grating and linear acuity, are described.

Zenker’s diverticulum is an outpouching of the esophageal mucosa through the cricopharyngeal muscle at the Killian triangle [1]. Endoscopically, the bridge of pseudodiverticulum sits between the esophageal lumen and the pouch and consists of mucosa, submucosa and muscle [2]. Th e rationale is to ablate the septum as much as possible and to open the pouch. A 64-year-old male was referred to our facility because of chronic dysphagia of solids. Gastroscopy along with a barium meal revealed a 2 × 2.7 cm, bilocular Zenker’s diverticulum (Fig. 1). Th e patient asked for endoscopic treatment, carried out under general anesthesia using a conventional Olympus endoscope. A 16-French Levin tube was loaded over a guide wire to separate the esophageal lumen from the diverticulum. We rejected a diverticuloscope because of the small size of the diverticulum. A soft , straight, transparent cap (Olympus, Germany) was mounted on the endoscope tip to further improve the working view. With an Olympus Triangle Tip (TT) knife catheter, applying 35 Watts coagulation current (ERBE, Germany, generator), we cut the Zenker’s septum from the saddle toward the bottom of the pouch in the middle line, applying careful traction movements of the TT knife, and stopped aft er approximately two thirds of the septum had been cut. We considered this suffi cient to relieve the patient’s symptoms, even for the bilocular type of diverticulum. A 12mm endoscopic clip was placed at the end of the cutting site to reduce the perforation risk [3]. Th e Levin tube was removed and the procedure was completed uneventfully, lasting approximately 35 min. Th e patient was kept on nil by mouth over the next 6 h, given broad spectrum antibiotics, and gradually started a liquid and soft food diet. Th ere were no immediate or late complications. Th ree months later, the patient is symptom-free, although a follow-up barium meal depicted a small opacifi cation at the ablated diverticulum (Fig. 2). To our knowledge, there is no randomized control study comparing diverticuloscopes versus caps regarding effi ciency and complications. We clearly showed that a bilocular Zenker’s diverticulum can safely be treated endoscopically by TT knife and cap. A new genus and species of nodosaurid dinosaur: Zhejiangosaurus lishuiensis gen. et sp. nov. is erected herein. It is characterized by the sacrum consisting of at least three true sacral vertebrae, 5 caudal dorsal vertebrae fused to form the presacral rod, wide divergence of long slender preacetabular process of the ilium from the middle line of the body, and the fourth trochanter located at the femoral mid-length.

This paper examines the loss of contact between a square plate and the unilateral supports under uniformly distributed load. Since the plate is rested on the unilateral supports, it will have the regions of lost contact between a plate and the supports due to the absence of restraining corner force at the plate corners. This leads to the mixed boundary conditions and these conditions are then written in the form of dual-series equations which can further be reduced to a Fredholm integral equation by taking advantage of finite Hankel transform technique. Numerical results are given for the deflections of free edge and deflections along the middle line of the plate with deferent values of the Poisson?s ratio. In addition, the deflection surface is also presented. From the investigation, it can be indicated that the loss of contact is decreased upon the increasing Poisson?s ratio.

California's pacific coast stretches roughly over 11.5 latitudinal degrees, extending from about 32.5°N to 44°N. There is nearly 900 nm of California coastline offering superior opportunity for wave energy use. The longitudinal position of the coast shifts eastward at two distinct locations: Punta Gorda just south of Cape Mendecino in the north and Point Conception in the south. The change in longitudinal orientation in southern California also coincides with significant change in California's bathymetry. The tilts in the longitudinal coastal lines at the two points also define California wave zones into three areas: the short coastal line north of Punta Gorda, the long north and middle line between the two points, and the short line of the heavily populated southern coast. The northern and central zones are characterized by high waves of relatively low frequency; the southern coast is characterized by low waves of higher frequency. This paper compares California's WEC potential for these three coastal zones.

Based on the ecological survey,the ecological indexes of microorganisms,physico-chemicals and chloro- phyll-a was measured on the water source area of the middle-line project of Transferring Water from South to North, 2005.The result showed that the nutrition type of the water source could be regarded as mesotrophyic;Danjiangkou Reservior is suitable for water source because the indexes except TN belong to the standards of Grade I water.This study would provide scientific information for data bank of long-term ecological research on middle-line project and policy of ecological environmental protection.

The distribution of tailings lenticles reflects the sediment state of tailing dam, and has a great influence on the stability of the dam. In order to disclose the distribution law of tailings lenticles in theory, 12 geological cross-sections, including 7 cross-sections of tailings dam constructed by the upstream method and 5 cross-sections by the middle line method, were analyzed with box dimension method. The results show that the distribution of tailings lenticles has better fractal character with box dimension from 1.290 7 to 1.513 6. The box dimension of the tailings dam constructed by upstream method is nearly 1.50 and that by middle line method is 1.30. Thereby the values of lenticles dimension have obvious relation to the method of constructing dam, and reflect the sediment state of tailings dam with the rule that smaller value means better state.

In this paper, the problem of optimum design of a thin-walled closed cross-section is presented. The problem consists in minimizing the material area of a thin-walled closed cross-section symmetrical with respect to both x and y centroidal axes, and subjected to flexural and torsional rigidity constraints and strength constraints. The unknown function is the middle line of the thin-walled closed cross-section while its thickness is t prescribed. The solution approach is numerical and the minimizing procedure is based on an improved simulated annealing method, a simple but robust direct search technique that works well on fast PCs.

The usual algorithm of the structure factor calculation, which is widely used for amorphous metals and amorphous semiconductors, cannot be applied to a number of amorphous metal oxides. Instead, we have developed a new algorithm based on the middle line method. It uses analytical properties of the structure factor and radial distribution function. The method has been applied to amorphous PbTiO 3 .

Miocene hard clays are widely distributed in eastern China and are associated with extensive damage to engineering structures. This paper presents the engineering geological properties of Miocene hard clays along the middle line of the North–South Diversion Water Project (NSDWP), including areas of the Nanyang Basin as well as the Fangcheng-Baofeng and Handan-Yongnian regions. Results of laboratory testing show that beneath the weathering zone the Miocene hard clays have similar engineering geological properties, including a high clay fraction with significant montmorillonite, high physico-chemical activity, high water content and high to very high shrink/swell. The effects of wetting and drying cycles on the swelling potential of the hard clays are summarized and attention drawn to the importance of these when considering excavation and construction.

Background: Wet cupping, furthermore mentioned cupping, decreases blood pressures through the level of negative air pressures added by hydrostatics filtration pressure to reinforce the power of fluids filtration in capillaries. However, an appropriate negative air pressure to decrease blood pressure remains an uncertainty. Purpose: This study aimed to analyze negative air pressure differences on cupping in decreasing blood pressures in hypertensive patients. Methods: This is a quasi-experimental design conducted in three Community Health Centers in Langsa City, Aceh, Indonesia. The samples were 36 hypertensive males with age from 45 to 55, who were randomly stratified into two groups with cupping pressures 400 mbar ( n= 18) as the control group; and 540 mbar ( n= 18) as the intervention group. The cupping session was performed to each group on T1 (alkahil) point and in the middle line of both shoulders blade points. The systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressures (DBP) were measured by validated automatic sphygmomanometer. The follow-up periods were one week and two weeks. The data were then analyzed by repeated measures ANOVA. Results: Cupping pressure of 400 mbar decreased the mean of SBP and DPB with a p-value of 0.450 and 0.026, respectively after two weeks of intervention. Meanwhile, cupping pressure of 540 mbar decreased the mean of SBP and DBP with a p-value of 0.006 and 0.057, respectively. Tests of within-subjects resulted in the p-value of 0.250 (SBP) and 0.176 (DBP) after two weeks of intervention. There were no significant differences in SBP and DBP between the intervention group and the control group. Conclusion: The cupping pressure between 400 mbar and 540 mbar could reduce blood pressure; however, the cupping pressure of 540 mbar yielded greater effect in decreasing blood pressure than the 400 mbar. Negative air vacuum pressure loads on cupping to decrease blood pressure should be considered between 400 to 540 mbar, and further studies are needed.

Combined with the Luwangfen test section in the Middle Line of SNWT, the geosynthetic reinforcing technology which is an efficient treatment measure for channel slope in expansive soil region was studied by in-situ experiment. The raw material, operating sequences, standards and testing for construction were systematically researched and summarized. The results provide valuable reference for the similar project construction.

We consider a general loaded arch problem. To approximate the solution of such a problem, an augmented mixed finite element method which takes into account an approximation of the middle line of the arch is considered. Some accuracy error estimates, which depend on the thickness of the arch, are then established.

The article presents one optimization method for improving of the working process of an axial compressor of gas turbine engine. Developed method allows to perform search for the best geometry of compressor blades automatically by using optimization software IOSO and CFD software NUMECA Fine/Turbo. Optimization was performed by changing the form of the middle line in the three sections of each blade and shifts of three sections of the guide vanes in the circumferential and axial directions. The calculation of the compressor parameters was performed for work and stall point of its performance map on each optimization step. Study was carried out for seven-stage high-pressure compressor and three-stage low-pressure compressors. As a result of optimization, improvement of efficiency was achieved for all investigated compressors.

Background Researchers have studied the water content at different skin depths. Since skin differs among tissue depth, we sought to determine the depth variability of the water content after moisturizing formulation application. Furthermore, we compared the effects of formulations with different type of manufacturing processes (hot and cold process). Methods To characterize the variations in the water content at different depths in the skin, measurements were done on the center of the inner forearm middle line of 18 sitting healthy women, before and after 1, 3, and 5 h of the application of two different moisturizing formulations (hot and cold process). Measurements included stratum corneum hydration via capacitance (SC) at 1.25 MHz (30–40 μm), and dermal water via tissue dielectric constant (TDC) at 300 MHz to depths of 500, 1500, and 2500 μm. Results There were significant differences between the SC mean values at all evaluated time intervals after application of both formulations when compared to baseline before application (T0). The SC mean values at 1 and 3 h are higher than those of the 5 h post application for both formulations. When comparing the formulations, hot formulation shows higher SC levels at 3 and 5 h, than cold formulation. TDC mean values to skin depths of 500 and 1500 μm increased after the application for both formulations. This increase was statistically significant at 1 and 3 h, when compared with T0. At 5 h no increases were seen in the TDC for any of the formulations. When comparing the mean values of each time evaluated, there is no statistically significant difference between the two formulations at depth of neither 500 μm nor 1500 μm. TDC mean value to a depth of 2500 μm does not increase after the application of any of the formulations. Conclusions Hot and cold formulations are effective moisturizers; however, a distinct profile was obtained for each. When water content averages were compared, the effect of hot formulation in the superficial layers of the skin was greater and longer in time than those of the cold formulation. On the other hand, moisturizing formulations applied to the skin affected the dermis water content until depth of 1500 μm.

Exacavations and study at the ancient theatre of Sparta in the area of the stage building and the west parodos have revealed new evidence for the original stage arrangements of the theatre as built under G. Julius Eurykles,c. 30-20 BC. A new trench laid across the west parodos, and the reopening of trials made by H. Bulle in 1935, have confirmed beyond doubt the existence of a scenery store building (skanotheke), from which three trackways, at least two of which were certainly fitted with continuous grooved blocks, allowed a moveable stage structure to be rolled out roughly into the position later occupied by the existing second phase stage building. Within the west parodos three contiguous channelled blocks have been revealed for the north line, the middle line and two poros bedding blocks for the south line. These indicate a gauge between the outer lines ofc. 6 m, within a skanotheke 9 m in width and 36 m long, the walls of which have been confirmed on the north, south and west. Bulle's 1937 hypothesis concerning a rolling stage for Sparta, which was challenged by Buckler in 1986, is therefore largely confirmed. Numerous fragments of a marble Doric columned order reused within the walls and foundations of the Flavian stage building suggest that a colonnaded façade may have fronted the moving stage area, and possibly also enclosed it at the rear.

Using the example of antiplanar shear we give a generalized scheme for constructing models of elastodynamic interaction of an elastic matrix with a thin-walled elastic curvilinear inclusion lying in the matrix under conditions of ideal contact subject to steady vibrations, by introducing suitable conditions on the middle line of the inhomogeneity. The procedure for the study is based on the application of the methods of the theory of singular perturbations. We describe the behavior of the stress-strain state of the body near the edges of the inhomogeneity, where boundary-layer phenomena appear.

The negative phototactic response of Triatoma infestans (Hemiptera) was studied in an arena, half of which was kept dark and the other half illuminated with different light intensitites. For each intensity we measured the time the insects spent in the dark half, the time to reach the side opposite to that where they were released, and the number of passages through the middle line of the arena. T. infestans displayed a photonegative behaviour that was enhanced by high light intensities. Bugs maintained in 12:12 light-dark cycles responded differently to the same illumination levels when tested in their photophase and scotophase: sensitivity to light was higher during the latter. Bugs entrained to light-dark cycles, kept afterwards either in constant darkness or in constant light, and tested in their subjective night and day, showed the same responses as bugs from the light-dark group tested in their corresponding photophase and scotophase. Thus, phototactic sensitivity is under endogenous control. The behaviour shown by T. infestans may be understood as being composed of at least two different drives: an exploratory one, and a negative phototactic response that is under endogenous control and is particularly sensitive to light during the scotophase, when activity peaks occur.

In the 6th week of the embryo development the morphological sexual characteristics of both sexes start to establish themselves. In every embryo, on both sides of the middle line, the following structures are present: (i) a genital septum; (ii) a Wolf mesenteric duct, beside the genital septum; (iii) a paramesonephric Mullerian duct that consists of three segments: (a) a vertical cranial sector beside the Wolf duct; (b) a middle horizontal sector that passes in front of the Wolf duct; and (c) an inferior or caudal sector. According to the established sex at the moment of fertilization, the absence of the Y chromosome clears the way for the differentiation in the female sense, establishing the retraction of the Wolf ducts, the development of the structures derived of the Muller paramesonephric ducts and the formation of the ovaries.

El presente trabajo analiza el modo de utilización y de concepción del tiempo de altos directivos de empresas transnacionales en la Argentina. Nos basaremos, por un lado, en un debate teórico en torno a la noción de tiempo desde diferentes disciplinas (antropología, sociología, historia de la vida cotidiana), cotejándolo con fuentes primarias y secundarias de las mismas empresas. El objetivo de este estudio radica en encontrar tendencias generales en la noción y utilización del tiempo en altos directivos y mandos medios dentro del capitalismo actual. Las prácticas cotidianas de estos quedan, en gran medida, subordinados o subsumidos a los intereses corporativos. De esta manera, el eje alrededor del cual gira la temporalidad constituye la idea de la urgencia (de agregar valor al tiempo).

Panic agoraphobic subjects constantly struggle with the accurate registration of everyday space-time dimension. They are hindered in the exploration of their surroundings by constant self-directed attention. In our investigations we examined whether during experimental goal-directed locomotion orientation insecurity would appear. The accuracy of target-directed motion, i.e. the degree of lateral deviation, was recorded in three diagnostic groups, panic agoraphobics (15 subjects), generalized anxiety patients (15 subjects), and normal controls (15 subjects), and normal controls (15 subjects). According to our results the approach vector of the panic agoraphobics deviated to the right, while in the case of generalized anxiety patients it deviated to the left, while normal controls did not deviate significantly from the middle line. Results are compatible with previous literature which associated panic with an overactivity of left-sided functions, and generalised anxiety with an overactivity of right-sided functions.

South-to-North Water Diversion project in China is the largest water diversion project of the world. This is a huge hydraulic engineering project, crossing Yangtze River, Huai River, Yellow River, and Hai River, total water volume of 44.8 billion m 3 transferred per year. The middle line of the project is starting from Danjiangkou and ending at Beijing and Tianjin, total length of the main canal about 1432 km, 279.7 km of the main canal located in the expansive soil zone. In order to control the damage caused by the swelling of the expansive soil, cement was adopted as the major stabilizing agent to reduce the swelling potential and increase the strength of the soil. This research examined the physicochemical characterization of cement treated highly expansive soil (Handan clay) from the project. SEM analysis was conducted on Handan clay at different curing time (1h, 4h, 12h, 24h, and 7d) during cement treatment. The cations’ concentration in the pore water before and after cement treatment was also examined at different time during a 7-day curing period. The cations of the exchange complex of treated Handan clay was also examined at different time (1h, 4h, 12h, 24h, and 7d) during a 7-day curing period. The strength development of the cement treated soil was investigated at different curing time (1h, 4h, 12h, 24h, and 7d).The testing results revealed the strength increasing mechanism of the cement treated expansive soil from chemical and miscrostructural point of view.
