However, the rapid evolution of smart grids has attracted numerous nation-state actors seeking to disrupt the power infrastructure of adversarial nations. This development underscores the urgent need to establish secure mechanisms for firmware updates, with firmware signing and verification serving as pivotal elements in safeguarding system integrity. In this work, we propose a digital signing and verification framework grounded in Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), specifically tailored for resource-constrained devices such as smart meters. The framework utilizes the Concise Binary Object Representation (CBOR) and Object Signing and Encryption (COSE) formats to achieve efficient da-ta encapsulation and robust security features. Few-shot class-incremental learning (FSCIL) involves learning new classes from limited data while retaining prior knowledge, and often results in catastrophic forgetting. Existing methods either freeze backbone networks to preserve knowledge, which limits adaptability, or rely on additional modules or prompts, introducing inference overhead. To this end, we propose Continuous Knowledge-Preserving Decomposition for FSCIL (CKPD-FSCIL), a framework that decomposes a model's weights into two parts: one that compacts existing knowledge (knowledge-sensitive components) and another that carries redundant capacity to accommodate new abilities (redundant-capacity components). The decomposition is guided by a covariance matrix from replay samples, ensuring principal components align with classification abilities. During adaptation, we freeze the knowledge-sensitive components and only adapt the redundant-capacity components, fostering plasticity while minimizing interference without changing the architecture or increasing overhead. Additionally, CKPD introduces an adaptive layer selection strategy to identify layers with redundant capacity, dynamically allocating adapters. Studying the immunity of topological superconductors against non-local disorder is one of the key issues in both fundamental researches and potential applications. Here, we demonstrate that the non-Hermiticity can enhance the robustness of topological edge states against non-local disorder. To illustrate that, we consider a one-dimensional (1D) generalized Kitaev model with the asymmetric hopping in the presence of disorder. It is shown that the region supporting Majorana zero modes (MZMs) against non-local disorder will be enlarged by the non-Hermiticity. Through both the numerical and analytical analyses, we show that non-Hermiticity can stabilize the topological superconducting (SC) phase against higher disorder strength. Our studies would offer new insights into the interplay between non-Hermiticity and topology.

We study online federated learning over a wireless network, where the central server updates an online global model sequence to minimize the time-varying loss of multiple local devices over time. The server updates the global model through over-the-air model-difference aggregation from the local devices over a noisy multiple-access fading channel. We consider the practical scenario where information on both the local loss functions and the channel states is delayed, and each local device is under a time-varying power constraint. We propose Constrained Over-the-air Model Updating with Delayed infOrmation (COMUDO), where a new lower-and-upper-bounded virtual queue is introduced to counter the delayed information and control the hard constraint violation. We show that its local model updates can be efficiently computed in closed-form expressions. Furthermore, through a new Lyapunov drift analysis, we show that COMUDO provides bounds on the dynamic regret, static regret, and hard constraint violation. Simulation results on image classification tasks under practical wireless network settings show substantial accuracy gain of COMUDO over state-of-the-art approaches, especially in the low-power region., Comment: To appear in INFOCOM 2025

The nuclear structures of $^7$Li($\alpha+n+n+p$) and $^7$Be($\alpha+p+p+n$) are studied within the microscopic cluster model, in which the clustering fragments e.g., triton, $^3$He, and even the single nucleons around the core are studied in the $^7$Li and $^7$Be systems. We obtain the energy spectra and wave functions of $^7$Li and $^7$Be, and the calculated energy spectra of the ground states and some of the excited states are consistent with experimental data. To investigate the cluster-formation probabilities, we calculate the reduced-width amplitudes of various binary partitions. The results show that the $\alpha+t(^3\mathrm{He})$ cluster structure is dominant in the low-lying states of $^7$Li($^7$Be), including the ground state and the three lowest excited states. In some higher states around the single-particle thresholds, the components of $\mathrm{core}+N$ structures, namely $^6\mathrm{Li}+n$ and $^6\mathrm{He}+p$ in $^7$Li and $^6\mathrm{Li}+p$ in $^7$Be, are significantly enhanced., Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures

The inaccurate translation of numbers can lead to significant security issues, ranging from financial setbacks to medical inaccuracies. While large language models (LLMs) have made significant advancements in machine translation, their capacity for translating numbers has not been thoroughly explored. This study focuses on evaluating the reliability of LLM-based machine translation systems when handling numerical data. In order to systematically test the numerical translation capabilities of currently open source LLMs, we have constructed a numerical translation dataset between Chinese and English based on real business data, encompassing ten types of numerical translation. Experiments on the dataset indicate that errors in numerical translation are a common issue, with most open-source LLMs faltering when faced with our test scenarios. Especially when it comes to numerical types involving large units like ``million", ``billion", and "yi", even the latest llama3.1 8b model can have error rates as high as 20%. Synchronization is one of the essential collective behaviors and has extensive applications. Exploiting a common environment, we establish synchronization in microwave optomechanical circuits. Through analysis and numerical calculations, we study the synchronization dynamics of three nonidentical and mechanically isolated optomechanical resonators. Each resonator supports a microwave mode and a mechanical mode, which are coupled via radiation-pressure type optomechanical interaction. The common environment induces indirect coupling between any two resonators, which can be described by an effective non-Hermitian interaction Hamiltonian. Combined with the Hermitian interaction regulated by the tunable coupler, we demonstrate that the common environment breaks the reciprocity of the interaction. We propose several special microwave optomechanical circuits with nonreciprocal or even unidirectional interactions, and study the regulation of synchronization dynamics by the common environment. By utilizing the excellent tunability of superconducting circuits, we show that different synchronization states can be switched in a controllable way. We search for the leptonic decay $D^+\to e^+\nu_{e}$ using an $e^+e^-$ collision data sample with an integrated luminosity of 20.3~fb$^{-1}$ collected with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773~GeV. No significant signal is observed and an upper limit on the branching fraction of $D^+\to e^+\nu_{e}$ is set as $9.7 \times 10^{-7}$, at the 90\% confidence level. Our upper limit is an order of magnitude smaller than the previous limit for this decay mode.

Recent advancements in omnimodal learning have been achieved in understanding and generation across images, text, and speech, though mainly within proprietary models. Limited omnimodal datasets and the inherent challenges associated with real-time emotional speech generation have hindered open-source progress. To address these issues, we propose openomni, a two-stage training method combining omnimodal alignment and speech generation to develop a state-of-the-art omnimodal large language model. In the alignment phase, a pre-trained speech model is further trained on text-image tasks to generalize from vision to speech in a (near) zero-shot manner, outperforming models trained on tri-modal datasets. In the speech generation phase, a lightweight decoder facilitates real-time emotional speech through training on speech tasks and preference learning. Experiments demonstrate that openomni consistently improves across omnimodal, vision-language, and speech-language evaluations, enabling natural, emotion-rich dialogues and real-time emotional speech generation.

We present the first amplitude analysis and branching fraction measurement of the decay $D^+_s\to \pi^+\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0\pi^0$, using $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.33 fb$^{-1}$, and report the first observation of the pure $W$-annihilation decay $D_s^+ \to \omega\rho^+$ with a branching fraction of $(0.99\pm0.08_{\rm stat}\pm0.07_{\rm syst})\%$. In comparison to the low significance of the $\mathcal{D}$ wave in the decay $D_s^+ \to \phi\rho^+$, the dominance of the $\mathcal{D}$ wave over the $\mathcal{S}$ and $\mathcal{P}$ waves, with a fraction of $(51.85\pm7.28_{\rm stat}\pm7.90_{\rm syst})\%$ observed in the decay, provides crucial information for the``polarization puzzle", as well as for the understanding of charm meson decays. The branching fraction of $D^+_s\to \pi^+\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0\pi^0$ is measured to be $(4.41\pm0.15_{\rm stat}\pm0.13_{\rm syst})\%$. Moreover, the branching fraction of $D_s^+ \to \phi\rho^+$ is measured to be $(3.98\pm0.33_{\rm stat}\pm0.21_{\rm syst})\%$, and the $R_{\phi}= {\mathcal{B}(\phi\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0)}/{\mathcal{B}(\phi\to K^+K^-)}$ is determined to be $(0.222\pm0.019_{\rm stat}\pm0.016_{\rm syst}$), which is consistent with the previous measurement based on charm meson decays, but deviates from the results from $e^+e^-$ annihilation and $K$-$N$ scattering experiments by more than 3$\sigma$.

We study the electromagnetic Dalitz decay $J/\psi \to e^+e^- \pi^0$ using $(10087 \pm 44) \times 10^6$ $J/\psi$ events collected by the \bes detector. The di-electron-invariant-mass dependent transition form factor of this decay is explored for the first time. A significant resonant structure corresponding to the $\rho/\omega$ resonance is observed, which cannot be described by existing theoretical models, due to contributions from the isospin-conserving $J/\psi \to \rho \pi^0$ and isospin-volating $J/\psi \to \omega \pi^0$ decays. The observed $\rho$--$\omega$ interference is consistent with that of the pion form factor but features a relatively narrow $\rho$ peak. By taking into account the contribution of this resonant structure, the branching fraction of $J/\psi \to e^+e^- \pi^0$ in the full $e^+e^-$ invariant mass spectrum range is also measured for the first time to be $(8.06 \pm 0.31 (\rm{stat}) \pm 0.38 (\rm{syst}))\times 10^{-7}$, which is two times larger than the prediction of the Vector Meson Dominance model due to the observed resonant contribution of $\rho/\omega$ resonances., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures, Submitted to Phys. Quantum burst error correction codes (QBECCs) are of great importance to deal with the memory effect in quantum channels. As the most important family of QBECCs, quantum cyclic codes (QCCs) play a vital role in the correction of burst errors. In this work, we characterize the burst error correction ability of QCCs constructed from the Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) and the Hermitian constructions. We determine the burst error correction limit of QCCs and quantum Reed-Solomon codes with algorithms in polynomial-time complexities. As a result, lots of QBECCs saturating the quantum Reiger bound are obtained. We show that quantum Reed-Solomon codes have better burst error correction abilities than the previous results. At last, we give the quantum error-trapping decoder (QETD) of QCCs for decoding burst errors. The decoder runs in linear time and can decode both degenerate and nondegenerate burst errors. While both observations and theories demonstrate that protoplanetary disks are not expected to live much longer than $\sim$10 Myr, several examples of prolonged disks have been observed in the past. In this work, we perform a systematic search for aged YSOs still surrounded by protoplanetary disks in the M star catalog from the LAMOST archive. We identify 14 sources older than 10 Myr, still surrounded by protoplanetary disks and with ongoing accretion activities, significantly improving the census of the category known as the Peter Pan disks. The stellar parameters, variability and accretion properties of these objects, as well as their spatial distribution, are investigated. Nearly all of these objects are distributed far away from nearby associations and star forming regions, but show evidence of being members of open clusters. Investigating the correlation between mass accretion rates and stellar masses, we find these long-lived disks accrete at systematically lower levels, compared to their younger counterparts with similar stellar masses. Transfer learning paradigm has driven substantial advancements in various vision tasks. However, as state-of-the-art models continue to grow, classical full fine-tuning often becomes computationally impractical, particularly in multi-task learning (MTL) setup where training complexity increases proportional to the number of tasks. Consequently, recent studies have explored Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning (PEFT) for MTL architectures. Despite some progress, these approaches still exhibit limitations in capturing fine-grained, task-specific features that are crucial to MTL. In this paper, we introduce Task-Adaptive Dynamic transFormer, termed TADFormer, a novel PEFT framework that performs task-aware feature adaptation in the fine-grained manner by dynamically considering task-specific input contexts. TADFormer proposes the parameter-efficient prompting for task adaptation and the Dynamic Task Filter (DTF) to capture task information conditioned on input contexts. Experiments on the PASCAL-Context benchmark demonstrate that the proposed method achieves higher accuracy in dense scene understanding tasks, while reducing the number of trainable parameters by up to 8.4 times when compared to full fine-tuning of MTL models. TADFormer also demonstrates superior parameter efficiency and accuracy compared to recent PEFT methods.

Along with the proliferating research interest in Semantic Communication (SemCom), Joint Source Channel Coding (JSCC) has dominated the attention due to the widely assumed existence in efficiently delivering information semantics. %has emerged as a pivotal area of research, aiming to enhance the efficiency and reliability of information transmission through deep learning-based methods. Nevertheless, this paper challenges the conventional JSCC paradigm, and advocates for adoption of Separate Source Channel Coding (SSCC) to enjoy the underlying more degree of freedom for optimization. We demonstrate that SSCC, after leveraging the strengths of Large Language Model (LLM) for source coding and Error Correction Code Transformer (ECCT) complemented for channel decoding, offers superior performance over JSCC. Our proposed framework also effectively highlights the compatibility challenges between SemCom approaches and digital communication systems, particularly concerning the resource costs associated with the transmission of high precision floating point numbers. Through comprehensive evaluations, we establish that empowered by LLM-based compression and ECCT-enhanced error correction, SSCC remains a viable and effective solution for modern communication systems. In other words, separate source and channel coding is still what we need!

Egocentric videos capture scenes from a wearer's viewpoint, resulting in dynamic backgrounds, frequent motion, and occlusions, posing challenges to accurate keystep recognition. We propose a flexible graph-learning framework for fine-grained keystep recognition that is able to effectively leverage long-term dependencies in egocentric videos, and leverage alignment between egocentric and exocentric videos during training for improved inference on egocentric videos. Our approach consists of constructing a graph where each video clip of the egocentric video corresponds to a node. During training, we consider each clip of each exocentric video (if available) as additional nodes. We examine several strategies to define connections across these nodes and pose keystep recognition as a node classification task on the constructed graphs. We perform extensive experiments on the Ego-Exo4D dataset and show that our proposed flexible graph-based framework notably outperforms existing methods by more than 12 points in accuracy. Furthermore, the constructed graphs are sparse and compute efficient. We also present a study examining on harnessing several multimodal features, including narrations, depth, and object class labels, on a heterogeneous graph and discuss their corresponding contribution to the keystep recognition performance., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures

The proposed Habitable Worlds Observatory is intended to observe the atmospheres of nearby terrestrial exoplanets with a resolution greater than that of any previous instrument. Multilingual knowledge graphs (KGs) provide high-quality relational and textual information for various NLP applications, but they are often incomplete, especially in non-English languages. Previous research has shown that combining information from KGs in different languages aids either Knowledge Graph Completion (KGC), the task of predicting missing relations between entities, or Knowledge Graph Enhancement (KGE), the task of predicting missing textual information for entities. Although previous efforts have considered KGC and KGE as independent tasks, we hypothesize that they are interdependent and mutually beneficial. To this end, we introduce KG-TRICK, a novel sequence-to-sequence framework that unifies the tasks of textual and relational information completion for multilingual KGs. KG-TRICK demonstrates that: i) it is possible to unify the tasks of KGC and KGE into a single framework, and ii) combining textual information from multiple languages is beneficial to improve the completeness of a KG. Photonic temporal crystals host a variety of intriguing phenomena, from wave amplification and mixing to exotic band structures, all stemming from the time-periodic modulation of optical properties. While these features have been well described classically, their quantum manifestation has remained elusive. Here, we introduce a quantum electrodynamical model of PTCs that reveals a deeper connection between classical and quantum pictures: the classical momentum gap arises from a localization-delocalization quantum phase transition in a Floquet-photonic synthetic lattice. Leveraging an effective Hamiltonian perspective, we pinpoint the critical momenta and highlight how classical exponential field growth manifests itself as wave-packet acceleration in the quantum synthetic space. Remarkably, when a two-level atom is embedded in such a cavity, its Rabi oscillations undergo irreversible decay to a half-and-half mixed state-a previously unobserved phenomenon driven by photonic delocalization within the momentum gap, even with just a single frequency mode. Our findings establish photonic temporal crystals as versatile platforms for studying nonequilibrium quantum photonics and suggest new avenues for controlling light matter interactions through time domain engineering., Comment: 22 pages, 14 figures

A unifying moving mesh method is developed for general $m$-dimensional geometric objects in $d$-dimensions ($d \ge 1$ and $1\le m \le d$) including curves, surfaces, and domains. The method is based on mesh equidistribution and alignment and does not require the availability of an analytical parametric representation of the underlying geometric object. Mathematical characterizations of shape and size of $m$-simplexes and properties of corresponding edge matrices and affine mappings are derived. The equidistribution and alignment conditions are presented in a unifying form for $m$-simplicial meshes. The equation for mesh movement is defined based on the moving mesh PDE approach, and suitable projection of the nodal mesh velocities is employed to ensure the mesh points stay on the underlying geometric object. The analytical expression for the mesh velocities is obtained in a compact matrix form. The nonsingularity of moving meshes is proved. Numerical results for curves ($m=1$) and surfaces ($m=2$) in two and three dimensions are presented to demonstrate the ability of the developed method to move mesh points without causing singularity and control their concentration., Comment: 37 pages, 13 figures

Recent advancements in machine learning-based signal analysis, coupled with open data initiatives, have fuelled efforts in automatic sleep stage classification. Despite the proliferation of classification models, few have prioritised reducing model complexity, which is a crucial factor for practical applications. In this work, we introduce Multi-Scale and Attention Convolutional Neural Network (MSA-CNN), a lightweight architecture featuring as few as ~10,000 parameters. MSA-CNN leverages a novel multi-scale module employing complementary pooling to eliminate redundant filter parameters and dense convolutions. Model complexity is further reduced by separating temporal and spatial feature extraction and using cost-effective global spatial convolutions. This separation of tasks not only reduces model complexity but also mirrors the approach used by human experts in sleep stage scoring. We evaluated both small and large configurations of MSA-CNN against nine state-of-the-art baseline models across three public datasets, treating univariate and multivariate models separately. Our evaluation, based on repeated cross-validation and re-evaluation of all baseline models, demonstrated that the large MSA-CNN outperformed all baseline models on all three datasets in terms of accuracy and Cohen's kappa, despite its significantly reduced parameter count. Lastly, we explored various model variants and conducted an in-depth analysis of the key modules and techniques, providing deeper insights into the underlying mechanisms. In this chapter, we discuss how to improve the GenIR systems based on user feedback. Before describing the approaches, it is necessary to be aware that the concept of "user" has been extended in the interactions with the GenIR systems. Different types of feedback information and strategies are also provided. Then the alignment techniques are highlighted in terms of objectives and methods. Following this, various ways of learning from user feedback in GenIR are presented, including continual learning, learning and ranking in the conversational context, and prompt learning. Through this comprehensive exploration, it becomes evident that innovative techniques are being proposed beyond traditional methods of utilizing user feedback, and contribute significantly to the evolution of GenIR in the new era. Chirality, an intrinsic preference for a specific handedness, is a fundamental characteristic observed in nature. In magnetism, magnetic chirality arises from the anti-symmetric Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in competition with the symmetric Heisenberg exchange interaction. Traditionally, the anti-symmetric interaction has been considered minor relative to the symmetric interaction. In this study, we demonstrate an observation of giant magnetic chirality during the dimensionality crossover of magnetic materials from three-dimensional to two-dimensional. The ratio between the anti-symmetric and symmetric interactions exhibits a reversal in their dominance over this crossover, overturning the traditional consideration. This observation is validated theoretically using a non-local interaction model and tight-binding calculation with distinct pairing schemes for each exchange interaction throughout the crossover. Additional experiments investigating the asphericity of orbital moments corroborate the robustness of our findings. Due to the demand for personalizing image generation, subject-driven text-to-image generation method, which creates novel renditions of an input subject based on text prompts, has received growing research interest. Existing methods often learn subject representation and incorporate it into the prompt embedding to guide image generation, but they struggle with preserving subject fidelity. To solve this issue, this paper approaches a novel framework named SceneBooth for subject-preserved text-to-image generation, which consumes inputs of a subject image, object phrases and text prompts. Instead of learning the subject representation and generating a subject, our SceneBooth fixes the given subject image and generates its background image guided by the text prompts. To this end, our SceneBooth introduces two key components, i.e., a multimodal layout generation module and a background painting module. The former determines the position and scale of the subject by generating appropriate scene layouts that align with text captions, object phrases, and subject visual information. The latter integrates two adapters (ControlNet and Gated Self-Attention) into the latent diffusion model to generate a background that harmonizes with the subject guided by scene layouts and text descriptions. In this manner, our SceneBooth ensures accurate preservation of the subject's appearance in the output. Quantitative and qualitative experimental results demonstrate that SceneBooth significantly outperforms baseline methods in terms of subject preservation, image harmonization and overall quality.

When states in a tower like the Kaluza-Klein or the string tower couple to another state through the irrelevant operators of the same type, their contributions to the loop corrections of the relevant or the marginal operators are not negligible, threatening the perturbativity. This can be avoided provided the cutoff scale is lower than the species scale associated with the irrelevant operator. We apply this to towers of states associated with the neutrino which couple to the Higgs through the Weinberg operator, the dimension-5 irrelevant operator generating the Majorana neutrino mass. Requiring the `Majorana species scale', the species scale associated with the Weinberg operator, to be below the gravitational species scale, one finds the lower bound on the Majorana neutrino mass determined by the species number. The Festina-Lente bound also gives the lower bound on the Majorana neutrino mass, but it is not so stringent. Meanwhile, even if the neutrino mass is of the Dirac type at the renormalizable level, the Majorana mass term still can be written in the effective field theory action so far as the Weinberg operator is not forbidden. Even if the Majorana neutrino mass is larger than the Dirac one, so far as there are sufficient degrees of freedom with mass smaller than the scale of the cosmological constant, the observation of the Majorana nature of the neutrino may not contradict to quantum gravity constraints which rules out the neutrino mass purely given by the Majorana type., Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures

Based on $(2712.4 \pm 14.3)\times 10^6$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected at the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, we present the first observation of the decay $\psi(3686) \to K^{-}\Lambda(1520)\bar{\Xi}^{+} + c.c.$. The product branching fraction ${\cal B}[\psi(3686) \to K^{-}\Lambda(1520)\bar{\Xi}^{+} + c.c.] \times {\cal B}[\Lambda(1520) \to pK^{-}]$ is measured to be $(9.5 \pm 0.8 \pm 1.1) \times 10^{-7}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.

Facial attractiveness prediction (FAP) has long been an important computer vision task, which could be widely applied in live streaming for facial retouching, content recommendation, etc. However, previous FAP datasets are either small, closed-source, or lack diversity. Moreover, the corresponding FAP models exhibit limited generalization and adaptation ability. To overcome these limitations, in this paper we present LiveBeauty, the first large-scale live-specific FAP dataset, in a more challenging application scenario, i.e., live streaming. 10,000 face images are collected from a live streaming platform directly, with 200,000 corresponding attractiveness annotations obtained from a well-devised subjective experiment, making LiveBeauty the largest open-access FAP dataset in the challenging live scenario. Furthermore, a multi-modal FAP method is proposed to measure the facial attractiveness in live streaming. Specifically, we first extract holistic facial prior knowledge and multi-modal aesthetic semantic features via a Personalized Attractiveness Prior Module (PAPM) and a Multi-modal Attractiveness Encoder Module (MAEM), respectively, then integrate the extracted features through a Cross-Modal Fusion Module (CMFM). Extensive experiments conducted on both LiveBeauty and other open-source FAP datasets demonstrate that our proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance. Dataset will be available soon.

The remarkable performance of the o1 model in complex reasoning demonstrates that test-time computing scaling can further unlock the model's potential, enabling powerful System-2 thinking. However, there is still a lack of comprehensive surveys for test-time computing scaling. We trace the concept of test-time computing back to System-1 models. In System-1 models, test-time computing addresses distribution shifts and improves robustness and generalization through parameter updating, input modification, representation editing, and output calibration. In System-2 models, it enhances the model's reasoning ability to solve complex problems through repeated sampling, self-correction, and tree search. We organize this survey according to the trend of System-1 to System-2 thinking, highlighting the key role of test-time computing in the transition from System-1 models to weak System-2 models, and then to strong System-2 models. In the task of reference-based image inpainting, an additional reference image is provided to restore a damaged target image to its original state. The advancement of diffusion models, particularly Stable Diffusion, allows for simple formulations in this task. However, existing diffusion-based methods often lack explicit constraints on the correlation between the reference and damaged images, resulting in lower faithfulness to the reference images in the inpainting results. In this work, we propose CorrFill, a training-free module designed to enhance the awareness of geometric correlations between the reference and target images. This enhancement is achieved by guiding the inpainting process with correspondence constraints estimated during inpainting, utilizing attention masking in self-attention layers and an objective function to update the input tensor according to the constraints. Experimental results demonstrate that CorrFill significantly enhances the performance of multiple baseline diffusion-based methods, including state-of-the-art approaches, by emphasizing faithfulness to the reference images., Comment: WACV 2025. Defect-free single atom array in optical tweezers is a promising platform for scalable quantum computing, quantum simulation, and quantum metrology. Extending single-species array to mixed-species one promise to offer new possibilities. In our recent proof of principle realization of defect-free two-dimensional assembly of mixed-species $^{85}$Rb ($^{87}$Rb) atom arrays [C. Sheng et al.\href{https://journals.aps.org/prl/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevLett.128.083202}{{\color{blue} Phys. Rev. Lett. 128, 083202(2022)}}], the filling fractions were limited by the imperfect transfer of atoms and the occurrence of logjams during the atom rearrangement. In order to scale up the size of defect-free mixed-species atom array, we scale up the tweezer array and improve the atom transfer, and upgrade the heuristic heteronuclear algorithm so as to facilitate multiple rearrangement cycles. Consequently, we successfully create defect-free atom arrays with 120 mixed-species single atoms. The corresponding filling fraction and defect-free probability are improved to be 98.6(1)\% and 14(2)\%, respectively. It is anticipated that the enhanced algorithm can be extended to other combinations of atomic species, and this mixed-species atom array is readily for studies of many-body physics, quantum error correction, and quantum metrology., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures

The crossover between dispersion patterns has been frequently observed in various systems. Inspired by the pathway-based kinetic model for E. coli chemotaxis that accounts for the intracellular adaptation process and noise, we propose a kinetic model that can exhibit a crossover from ballistic transport to normal diffusion at the population level. At the particle level, this framework aligns with a stochastic individual-based model. Using numerical simulations and rigorous asymptotic analysis, we demonstrate this crossover both analytically and computationally. Notably, under suitable scaling, the model reveals two distinct limits in which the macroscopic densities exhibit either ballistic transport or normal diffusion.

Our brains are hardwired for pattern recognition as correlations are useful for predicting and understanding nature. As more exoplanet atmospheres are being characterized with JWST, we are starting to unveil their properties on a population level. Here we present a framework for comparing exoplanet transmission spectroscopy from 3 to 5$\mu$m with four bands: L (2.9 - 3.7$\mu$m), SO$_2$ (3.95 - 4.1$\mu$m), CO$_2$ (4.25 - 4.4$\mu$m) and CO (4.5 - 4.9$\mu$m). Together, the four bands cover the major carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, and sulfur-bearing molecules including H$_2$O, CH$_4$, NH$_3$, H$_2$S, SO$_2$, CO$_2$, and CO. Among the eight high-precision gas giant exoplanet planet spectra we collected, we found strong correlations between the SO$_2$-L index and planet mass (r=-0.41$\pm$0.09) and temperature (r=-0.64$\pm$0.08), indicating SO$_2$ preferably exists (SO$_2$-L$>$-0.5) among low mass ($\sim<$0.3M$_J$) and cooler ($\sim<$1200K) targets. We also observe strong temperature dependency for both CO$_2$-L and CO-L indices. Under equilibrium chemistry and isothermal thermal structure assumptions, we find that the planet sample favors super-solar metallicity and low C/O ratio ($<$0.7). In addition, the presence of a mass-metallicity correlation is favored over uniform metallicity with the eight planets. We further introduce the SO$_2$-L versus CO$_2$-L diagram alike the color-magnitude diagram for stars and brown dwarfs. Self-driven photodetectors (SDPDs) transform photon energy into electrical energy without external voltage, which makes them highly advantageous for applications such as low-power communication and imaging systems. Two-dimensional materials (2DMs) provide ideal platforms for SDPDs thanks to their band structures covering ultraviolet to infrared spectrum, strong light absorption efficiencies, and high carrier mobilities. However, the lack of stable doping methods and the complicated 2DMs multilayer stacking techniques pose tremendous difficulties for 2DMs to adopt the same device structures (i.e. PN junctions) as bulk materials, and the resultant self-driven performance remains at a low level. This work reveals how different asymmetrical effects can be combined to synergistically boost self-driven properties based on typical 2D metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM) photodetectors. Using WSe2 as an exemplary 2D material to build MSM photodetectors, the synergistic effect of asymmetrical contact electrodes and asymmetrical contact geometries is theoretically and experimentally demonstrated. The open-circuit voltage (Voc) of the SDPD reaches 0.58V, with a zero-bias responsivity of 5.77 A/W and an on/off ratio of 1.73*10^5. Additionally, our devices demonstrate potential for visible light communication (VLC) in underwater environments. A search for $\eta_c(2S)\to p\bar{p}K^+K^-$, together with measurement of branching fractions of $\chi_{cJ(J=0,1,2)}\to p\bar{p}K^+K^-$ in the $\psi(3686) \to \gamma \eta_c(2S)$ and the $\psi(3686) \to \gamma \chi_{cJ}$ radiative decays, is performed with $(2712.4\pm14.3)\times 10^6$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. An evidence for $\eta_c(2S)\to p\bar{p}K^+K^-$ is found, with a significance of $3.3\sigma$. The product branching fraction of $\mathcal{B}[\psi(3686)\to\gamma\eta_c(2S)]\cdot\mathcal{B}[\eta_c(2S)\to p\bar{p}K^+K^-]$ is determined to be $(1.98\mkern 2mu\pm\mkern 2mu0.41_{\text{stat.}}\mkern 2mu\pm\mkern 2mu0.99_{\text{syst.}})\times 10^{-7}$. Image segmentation is a vital task for providing human assistance and enhancing autonomy in our daily lives. In particular, RGB-D segmentation-leveraging both visual and depth cues-has attracted increasing attention as it promises richer scene understanding than RGB-only methods. However, most existing efforts have primarily focused on semantic segmentation and thus leave a critical gap. There is a relative scarcity of instance-level RGB-D segmentation datasets, which restricts current methods to broad category distinctions rather than fully capturing the fine-grained details required for recognizing individual objects. To bridge this gap, we introduce three RGB-D instance segmentation benchmarks, distinguished at the instance level. These datasets are versatile, supporting a wide range of applications from indoor navigation to robotic manipulation. In addition, we present an extensive evaluation of various baseline models on these benchmarks. This comprehensive analysis identifies both their strengths and shortcomings, guiding future work toward more robust, generalizable solutions. Finally, we propose a simple yet effective method for RGB-D data integration. Extensive evaluations affirm the effectiveness of our approach, offering a robust framework for advancing toward more nuanced scene understanding.

Gene panel selection aims to identify the most informative genomic biomarkers in label-free genomic datasets. Traditional approaches, which rely on domain expertise, embedded machine learning models, or heuristic-based iterative optimization, often introduce biases and inefficiencies, potentially obscuring critical biological signals. To address these challenges, we present an iterative gene panel selection strategy that harnesses ensemble knowledge from existing gene selection algorithms to establish preliminary boundaries or prior knowledge, which guide the initial search space. Subsequently, we incorporate reinforcement learning through a reward function shaped by expert behavior, enabling dynamic refinement and targeted selection of gene panels. This integration mitigates biases stemming from initial boundaries while capitalizing on RL's stochastic adaptability. Comprehensive comparative experiments, case studies, and downstream analyses demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, highlighting its improved precision and efficiency for label-free biomarker discovery. The dimensionality of vortical structures has recently been extended beyond two dimensions, providing higher-order topological characteristics and robustness for high-capacity information processing and turbulence control. The generation of high-dimensional vortical structures has mostly been demonstrated in classical systems through the complex interference of fluidic, acoustic, or electromagnetic waves. However, natural materials rarely support three- or higher-dimensional vortical structures and their physical interactions. Here, we present a high-dimensional gradient thickness optical cavity (GTOC) in which the optical coupling of planar metal-dielectric multilayers implements topological interactions across multiple dimensions. Topological interactions in high-dimensional GTOC construct non-trivial topological phases, which induce high-dimensional vortical structures in generalized parameter space in three, four dimensions, and beyond. These emergent high-dimensional vortical structures are observed under electro-optic tomography as optical vortex dynamics in two-dimensional real-space, employing the optical thicknesses of the dielectric layers as synthetic dimensions. We experimentally demonstrate emergent vortical structures, optical vortex lines and vortex rings, in a three-dimensional generalized parameter space and their topological transitions. Furthermore, we explore four-dimensional vortical structures, termed optical vortex sheets, which provide the programmability of real-space optical vortex dynamics. Applying multi-agent reinforcement learning methods to realistic settings is challenging as it may require the agents to quickly adapt to unexpected situations that are rarely or never encountered in training. Recent methods for generalization to such out-of-distribution settings are limited to more specific, restricted instances of distribution shifts. To tackle adaptation to distribution shifts, we propose Unexpected Encoding Scheme, a novel decentralized multi-agent reinforcement learning algorithm where agents communicate "unexpectedness," the aspects of the environment that are surprising. In addition to a message yielded by the original reward-driven communication, each agent predicts the next observation based on previous experience, measures the discrepancy between the prediction and the actually encountered observation, and encodes this discrepancy as a message. Image composition involves extracting a foreground object from one image and pasting it into another image through Image harmonization algorithms (IHAs), which aim to adjust the appearance of the foreground object to better match the background. Existing image quality assessment (IQA) methods may fail to align with human visual preference on image harmonization due to the insensitivity to minor color or light inconsistency. To address the issue and facilitate the advancement of IHAs, we introduce the first Image Quality Assessment Database for image Harmony evaluation (HarmonyIQAD), which consists of 1,350 harmonized images generated by 9 different IHAs, and the corresponding human visual preference scores. Based on this database, we propose a Harmony Image Quality Assessment (HarmonyIQA), to predict human visual preference for harmonized images. Extensive experiments show that HarmonyIQA achieves state-of-the-art performance on human visual preference evaluation for harmonized images, and also achieves competing results on traditional IQA tasks. Furthermore, cross-dataset evaluation also shows that HarmonyIQA exhibits better generalization ability than self-supervised learning-based IQA methods. The characterization of high-dimensional entanglement plays a crucial role in the field of quantum information science. Conventional methods perform either fixed measurement bases or randomized measurements with high-order moments. Here, we introduce a criterion for estimating the Schmidt number of bipartite high-dimensional states based on local randomized projections with first-order moments. To extract more information from limited experimental data, we propose an estimation algorithm of the Schmidt number. We exhibit the performance of the proposed approach by considering the maximally entangled state under depolarizing and random noise models. Test-time adaptation aims to adapt pre-trained deep neural networks using solely online unlabelled test data during inference. Although TTA has shown promise in visual applications, its potential in time series contexts remains largely unexplored. Existing TTA methods, originally designed for visual tasks, may not effectively handle the complex temporal dynamics of real-world time series data, resulting in suboptimal adaptation performance. To address this gap, we propose Augmented Contrastive Clustering with Uncertainty-aware Prototyping (ACCUP), a straightforward yet effective TTA method for time series data. Initially, our approach employs augmentation ensemble on the time series data to capture diverse temporal information and variations, incorporating uncertainty-aware prototypes to distill essential characteristics. Additionally, we introduce an entropy comparison scheme to selectively acquire more confident predictions, enhancing the reliability of pseudo labels. Furthermore, we utilize augmented contrastive clustering to enhance feature discriminability and mitigate error accumulation from noisy pseudo labels, promoting cohesive clustering within the same class while facilitating clear separation between different classes. Extensive experiments conducted on three real-world time series datasets and an additional visual dataset demonstrate the effectiveness and generalization potential of the proposed method, advancing the underexplored realm of TTA for time series data.

As retrieval-augmented generation prevails in large language models, embedding models are becoming increasingly crucial. Despite the growing number of general embedding models, prior work often overlooks the critical role of training data quality. In this work, we introduce KaLM-Embedding, a general multilingual embedding model that leverages a large quantity of cleaner, more diverse, and domain-specific training data. Our model has been trained with key techniques proven to enhance performance: (1) persona-based synthetic data to create diversified examples distilled from LLMs, (2) ranking consistency filtering to remove less informative samples, and (3) semi-homogeneous task batch sampling to improve training efficacy. Departing from traditional BERT-like architectures, we adopt Qwen2-0.5B as the pre-trained model, facilitating the adaptation of auto-regressive language models for general embedding tasks. Machine learning models often rely on simple spurious features -- patterns in training data that correlate with targets but are not causally related to them, like image backgrounds in foreground classification. This reliance typically leads to imbalanced test performance across minority and majority groups. In this work, we take a closer look at the fundamental cause of such imbalanced performance through the lens of memorization, which refers to the ability to predict accurately on \textit{atypical} examples (minority groups) in the training set but failing in achieving the same accuracy in the testing set. This paper systematically shows the ubiquitous existence of spurious features in a small set of neurons within the network, providing the first-ever evidence that memorization may contribute to imbalanced group performance. Through three experimental sources of converging empirical evidence, we find the property of a small subset of neurons or channels in memorizing minority group information. Inspired by these findings, we articulate the hypothesis: the imbalanced group performance is a byproduct of ``noisy'' spurious memorization confined to a small set of neurons. To further substantiate this hypothesis, we show that eliminating these unnecessary spurious memorization patterns via a novel framework during training can significantly affect the model performance on minority groups. Our experimental results across various architectures and benchmarks offer new insights on how neural networks encode core and spurious knowledge, laying the groundwork for future research in demystifying robustness to spurious correlation.

Current Visual Language Models (VLMs) show impressive image understanding but struggle with visual illusions, especially in real-world scenarios. Existing benchmarks focus on classical cognitive illusions, which have been learned by state-of-the-art (SOTA) VLMs, revealing issues such as hallucinations and limited perceptual abilities. To address this gap, we introduce IllusionBench, a comprehensive visual illusion dataset that encompasses not only classic cognitive illusions but also real-world scene illusions. This dataset features 1,051 images, 5,548 question-answer pairs, and 1,051 golden text descriptions that address the presence, causes, and content of the illusions. We evaluate ten SOTA VLMs on this dataset using true-or-false, multiple-choice, and open-ended tasks. In addition to real-world illusions, we design trap illusions that resemble classical patterns but differ in reality, highlighting hallucination issues in SOTA models. The top-performing model, GPT-4o, achieves 80.59% accuracy on true-or-false tasks and 76.75% on multiple-choice questions, but still lags behind human performance. In the semantic description task, GPT-4o's hallucinations on classical illusions result in low scores for trap illusions, even falling behind some open-source models. IllusionBench is, to the best of our knowledge, the largest and most comprehensive benchmark for visual illusions in VLMs to date.
