54. Re-equilibrium of Asphaltenes by Repressurizing after Precipitation in Natural Depletion and CO2Enhanced Oil Recovery Schemes

Abstract

In a series of isothermal depressurizing tests to measure asphaltene onset pressure (AOP), several depressurizing operations are usually conducted to multiple AOPs using the same lot of fluid subsamples. After one depressurizing operation is finished, the pressure/temperature condition is reset to the initial condition. Then, the next depressurizing run is performed. Before the next run, the fluid sample must equilibrate again by dissolving precipitated asphaltenes from the previous step. According to our many experiences with isothermal depressurizing tests for measuring AOPs, we know that redissolving asphaltenes depends highly upon the characteristics of a fluid sample. Some fluids redissolve asphaltenes quickly, while other samples need a lot of time. This study focused on fluid-dependent asphaltene re-equilibrium during a series of isothermal depressurizing tests. To investigate asphaltene re-equilibrium, the authors re-examined past experimental data for two types of crude oils. In the experiment, continuous power of light transmittance (PLT) was monitored for all stages in the series of AOP measurements. Two series of isothermal depressurizing tests were separately performed to evaluate CO2-induced asphaltene risks for two fluid samples. Three or four total steps of depressurizing were conducted in order of CO2addition ratios: 0, 20, 40, and 60 mol %. After a depressurizing process finished, pressure was increased above AOP to dissolve precipitated asphaltenes. PLT profiles in equilibrium steps between each depressurizing step were compared from a viewpoint of equilibrium time and/or PLT profile fluctuation. One of the fluids showed quick re-equilibrium of asphaltenes and smooth PLT profiles, whereas the other took much longer to achieve equilibrium and had fluctuating PLT profiles. This information suggested that easy-equilibrium-achievable fluids would be a preferred target for CO2enhanced oil recovery because of its potential use of pressure control for mitigating asphaltenes. In the case of easy-equilibrium-achievable fluid, when a production problem is caused by asphaltene precipitation, repressurization by temporary shut-in and/or production rate control can be an effective mitigation.

Abstract

Conclusion: The resection of the medial and lateral pyriform sinus was associated with post-operative voice impairment after TOVS. Scar contracture around the cricoarytenoid joint lead to arytenoid fixation toward lateral position, and this wound healing process caused insufficient glottis closure. Although oncological and functional outcomes of TOVS was satisfactory, surgeons should mention the risk of post-operative voice impairment in pre-operative counseling. Objectives: Transoral surgery is a minimally invasive treatment option for hypopharyngeal and supraglottic cancer. Post-operative vocal function was satisfactory in most cases, but in some cases vocal cord was fixed and occasionally voice impairment persists. Methods: Vocal function of 55 patients who underwent transoral videolaryngoscopic surgery (TOVS) for hypopharyngeal and supraglottic cancers was evaluated by the GRBAS perceptive scale, aerodynamic tests and acoustic analyses, and the Voice Handicap Index questionnaire. The risk factors for voice impairment were identified. Results: Voice impairment (G score ≧2) was found in 16 cases (29.1%). Univariate analysis revealed that the resection of medial and lateral pyriform sinus (p =.0018) and neck dissection (p =.0421) were associated with post-operative voice impairment. Multivariate analysis revealed that the resection of medial and lateral pyriform sinus (p =.0021) was associated with post-operative voice impairment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

92. Low-Temperature Silicon Oxide Offset Spacer Using Plasma-Enhanced Atomic Layer Deposition for High-$k$/Metal Gate Transistor

Abstract

We have investigated the characteristics of silicon oxide films deposited by plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) and plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) as offset spacer films of high-$k$/metal gate stacks. From the results of bonding structure analysis, the silicon oxide film deposited by PEALD has been found to be composed of a Si--O bond network of the stoichiometric silicon oxide film. On the other hand, the silicon oxide film deposited by PECVD is considered to contain suboxide bond structures. From the results of physical and mechanical evaluations, the silicon oxide film deposited by PEALD exhibits a lower wet etch rate, a higher film density, a lower dielectric constant, a smaller amount of water in the film, and a higher elastic modulus than that deposited by PECVD. PEALD showed excellent thickness controllability. From these results, the silicon oxide film deposited by PEALD has higher quality and is more suitable for use as an offset spacer than that deposited by PECVD. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed that the surface oxidation of a titanium nitride film, which is used as a metal gate electrode, during PEALD can be suppressed by using a lower PEALD temperature. Finally, we have demonstrated that the drain current of a high-$k$/metal gate transistor with a silicon oxide offset spacer deposited by PEALD is markedly increased, compared with that with a high-temperature-deposited silicon oxide offset spacer.

95. Effect of N2Gas Flow Ratio in Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition with SiH4--NH3--N2--He Gas Mixture on Stress Relaxation of Silicon Nitride

Abstract

The effects of N2gas flow ratios in silicon nitride deposition with SiH4--NH3--N2--He gas mixtures at a temperature of 275 \mbox{\circC} on stress relaxation have been investigated. We have demonstrated that film stress can be controlled in the range from $-692$ MPa (compression) to 170 MPa (tension) by increasing N2gas flow ratio. From the evaluation of the composition ratio of N/Si, film density, and bonding structure, the relationships between film stress and these properties are investigated. The amount of nitrogen incorporated into the film as N--H bonds increased with increasing N2flow ratio, resulting in a higher composition ratio of N/Si. At a higher N2gas flow ratio, excess N2gas in the plasma may disturb the ion bombardment of ionized species on the film surface, resulting in a decrease in the film density. The higher N2gas flow ratio leads to the generation of a Si--N bonding structure with a larger bond angle at the nitrogen atom site due to bond-strain relaxation, leading to a higher frequency of Si--N stretching vibration. Therefore, a nitrogen-richer SiN film with many N--H bonds and a lower film density exhibits bonding structures with a lower bond strain, leading to the relief of film stress.

Abstract

Skeletal muscle aging and sarcopenia result in similar changes in the levels of aging markers. However, few studies have examined cancer sarcopenia from the perspective of aging. Therefore, this study investigated aging in cancer sarcopenia and explored its causes in vitro and in vivo. In mouse aging, in vitro cachexia, and mouse cachexia models, skeletal muscles showed similar changes in aging markers including oxidative stress, fibrosis, reduced muscle differentiation potential, and telomere shortening. Furthermore, examination of mitochondrial DNA from skeletal muscle revealed a 5 kb deletion in the major arc; truncation of complexes I, IV, and V in the electron transport chain; and reduced oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS). The mouse cachexia model demonstrated high levels of high-mobility group box-1 (HMGB1) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNFα) in cancer ascites. Continuous administration of neutralizing antibodies against HMGB1 and TNFα in this model reduced oxidative stress and abrogated mitochondrial DNA deletion. These results suggest that in cancer sarcopenia, mitochondrial oxidative stress caused by inflammatory cytokines leads to mitochondrial DNA damage, which in turn leads to decreased OXPHOS and the promotion of aging., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest.

Abstract

To evaluate the usefulness of combination chemotherapy with cisplatin powder, which was newly designed for intra-arterial infusion (IA CALL) and lipiodol, for the VX 2 liver cancer model of the rabbit, sequential change of the plasma platinum concentration within the first 24 hours, as well as the tissue platinum concentration at 24 hours was measured after intra-arterial infusion of IA CALL. The infused materials were either IA CALL alone (C) or the combination of lipiodol+IA CALL (CL). In addition,the reduction rate of the VX 2 tumor was calculated among four therapeutic groups (C, CL, lipiodol alone (L), and saline alone (S)) after one week of intra-arterial infusion on the basis of 7.0 Tesla MR images. Total plasma platinum concentrations within the first 24 hours were kept low in group CL. No increase in the tissue platinum concentration in group CL was observed. On the other hand, the tumor reduction rate tended to be higher in group CL (group CL>group L=group C>group S). These results suggested that the intra-arterial infusion of IA CALL with lipiodol is more effective than that of IA CALL alone.
