The authors described a new application of amino-functionalized KIT-6 for dispersive ultrasonication-assisted micro solid phase extraction of hippuric acid (HA) and methyl hippuric acid (MHA) from human urine and water samples. In the first step, an amino-functionalized mesoporous silica of type KIT-6 was synthesized. It was characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, nitrogen adsorption-desorption analysis, thermogravimetry and X-ray diffraction. Following sorption and desorption with 1.0 mL methanol/NH 4 OH (1%; v/v), HA and MHA were quantified by HPLC with UV detection. Various important parameters were optimized by Box-Behnken design. Under optimized conditions, The limit of detections (LOD) were calculated by a signal-to-noise ratio of 3, which were 0.5 μg L -1 and 0.2 μg L-1 for HA and MHA, respectively, and the calibration plot is linear in the 1-1000 μg L -1 concentration range. Only small matrix effects were found. The method was successfully implemented for the sensitive determination of HA and MHA in (spiked) human urine samples. A high concentration of chromium (VI) in groundwater can threaten the health of consumers. In this study, the concentration of chromium (VI) in 18 drinking water wells in Birjand, Iran, s was investigated over a period of two yearsNon-carcinogenic risk assessment, sensitivity, and uncertainty analysis as well as the most important variables in determining the non-carcinogenic risk for three age groups including children, teens, and adults, were performed using the Monte Carlo simulations technique. The northern and southern regions of the study area had the highest and lowest chromium concentrations, respectively. The chromium concentrations in 16.66% of the samples in an area of 604.79 km2 were more than World Health Organization (WHO) guideline (0.05 mg/L). The Moran's index analysis showed that the distribution of contamination is a cluster. The Hazard Index (HI) values for the children and teens groups were 1.02 and 2.02, respectively, which was more than 1. A sensitivity analysis indicated that the most important factor in calculating the HQ was the concentration of chromium in the consumed water. HQ values higher than 1 represent a high risk for the children group, which should be controlled by removing the chromium concentration of the drinking water., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier Ltd. Introduction: Myocardial infarction is a common cause of mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Since troponins I and T levels rise in CKD patients without any myocardial cause, diagnostic value of cardiac troponins is not high in these patients. This study aimed to evaluate the value of troponin I and other cardiac biomarkers to differentiate acute coronary syndrome in CKD patients., Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, patients with stage 3 to 5 of CKD with typical chest pain were enrolled. Troponins I and T and other biomarkers were measured, and angiography was carried out in these patients. Cardiac biomarkers and other variables were evaluated in patients and compared with angiography results., Results: Ninety CKD patients with a mean age of 61.67 ± 15.87 years were enrolled. Angiography results were normal in 48.9% of the patients, while it showed single-vessel disease in 14.5%, two-vessel disease in 23.3%, and three-vessel disease in 13.3%. Serum creatinine level, glomerular filtration rate, troponin I level, and creatine kinase level were not significantly different in patients with normal and abnormal angiography findings. The serum troponin I, creatine kinase, and creatine kinase-myocardial bound levels had no significant diagnostic values to differentiate abnormal angiography in CKD patients., Conclusions: Serum levels of cardiac troponin I and creatine kinase-myocardial bound were not suitable to diagnose ACS in CKD patients (stages 3 to 5); therefore, we suggest using other diagnostic attempts in similar conditions. More evaluation is needed to confirm these findings.

In this research, a new sample treatment technique termed solvent-assisted dispersive solid phase extraction (SA-DSPE) was developed. The new method was based on the dispersion of the sorbent into the sample to maximize the contact surface. In this approach, the dispersion of the sorbent at a very low milligram level was achieved by injecting a mixture solution of the sorbent and disperser solvent into the aqueous sample. Thereby, a cloudy solution formed. The cloudy solution resulted from the dispersion of the fine particles of the sorbent in the bulk aqueous sample. After extraction, the cloudy solution was centrifuged and the enriched analytes in the sediment phase dissolved in ethanol and determined by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Under the optimized conditions, the detection limit for lead and cadmium ions was 1.2 μg L(-1) and 0.2 μg L(-1), respectively. Furthermore, the preconcentration factor was 299.3 and 137.1 for cadmium and lead ions, respectively. SA-DSPE was successfully applied for trace determination of lead and cadmium in fruit (Citrus limetta, Kiwi and pomegranate) and water samples. Finally, the introduced sample preparation method can be used as a simple, rapid, reliable, selective and sensitive method for flame atomic absorption spectrophotometric determination of trace levels of lead and cadmium ions in fruit and water samples., (Copyright © 2015 Elsevier Ltd. SADSPE was successfully applied for trace determination of silver ions in water and food samples.

In this paper, we have introduced nanoporous carbon modified with mercapto groups as a new solid-phase method for extraction of cadmium(II) and copper(II) ions. The modified nanoporous carbon sorbent was characterised by thermogravimetric analysis, differential thermal analysis, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, X-ray diffraction, and nitrogen adsorption surface area (BET) measurements. Effects of pH value, flow rates, type, concentration and volume of the eluent, breakthrough volume, and effect of other ions were studied. The experimental results show that simultaneous trace cadmium(II) and copper(II) ions can be quantitatively preconcentrated at pH 6.0 with recoveries >97%. Under optimised conditions, limits of detection are 0.04 and 0.09 ng mL(-1) for the ions of cadmium and copper respectively, and the precision of the method for analysis of cadmium and copper ions (5.0 μg of each target ions, N=8) are 2.4% and 2.1%, respectively. The obtained capacities of mercapto-nanoporous carbon were found to be 145 and 95 mg g(-1) for cadmium and copper ions, respectively. The accuracy of the proposed procedure was verified by analysing standard reference material. A molecular-imprinted polymer nanoparticles (MIP-NP) for the selective preconcentration of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) is described. It was obtained by precipitation polymerization from methacrylic acid (the functional monomer), ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (the cross-linker), 2,2'-azobisisobutyronitrile (the initiator) and 2,4-D (the template molecule) in acetonitrile solution. The MIP-NPs were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, and by scanning electron microscopy. Imprinted 2,4-D molecules were removed from the polymeric structure using acetic acid in methanol (15:85 v/v %) as the eluting solvent. The sorption and desorption process occur within 10 min and 15 min, respectively. The maximum sorbent capacity of the molecular imprinted polymer is 89.2 mg g(-1). The relative standard deviation and limit of detection for water samples by introduced selective solid phase extraction were 4.2% and 1.25 μg L(-1), and these data for urine samples were 4.7% and 1.80 μg L(-1), respectively. The method was applied to the determination of 2,4-D in the urine and different water samples.

Background: 4-chloro-2-methylphenoxy acetic acid (MCPA) is one of the most important pesticides which is extensively used to control weeds in arable farmland. Exposure to this compound occurs in general population and persons who occupationally handle it. The aim of this present work was the preparation of MCPA imprinting polymer and its application as a selective sample preparation technique for trace determination of MCPA in biological and environmental samples., Methods: In this study, MCPA imprinting polymer was obtained by precipitation polymerization using methacrylic acid (the functional monomer), ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (the cross-linker), 2, 2'-azobisisobutyronitrile (the initiator) and MCPA (the template molecule) in acetonitrile solution. The MIP-NPs were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis and scanning electron microscopy. The optimization process was carried out applying batch method. After optimization of the parameters, affecting the adsorption and desorption of analyte, urine and different water samples were used to determine MCPA., Results: Imprinted MCPA molecules were removed from the polymeric structure using acetic acid in methanol (20:80 v/v %) as the eluting solvent. Both sorption and desorption process occur within 10 min. The maximum sorbent capacity of the molecular imprinted polymer is 87.4 mg g-1. The relative standard deviation and limit of detection for water samples by introduced selective solid phase extraction were 4.8% and 0.9 μg L-1, and these data for urine samples were 4.5% and 1.60 μg L-1, respectively., Conclusion: The developed method was successfully applied to determine MCPA in urine and different water samples.
