Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate perinatal outcome in singleton pregnancies at term with isolated oligohydramnios, diagnosed by using the single deepest pocket method. Patients and Methods: In this historic cohort study, the perinatal outcomes of 196 women with isolated oligohydramnios at term, diagnosed by using the single deepest pocket method, were compared to 8,676 women with normal amniotic fluid volume. The primary outcome measure was the Cesarean section rate. Further outcome parameters included the rate of induction of labor, abnormal cardiotocography, umbilical cord pH and base excess, Apgar, meconium-stained liquor and admission to neonatal intensive care unit. Results: In the group with isolated oligohydramnios, there were significantly more Cesarean sections (p=0.0081) and more abnormal cardiotocographies (p=0.0005). Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that this difference was seen particularly in nulliparous women (p=0.0025 for Cesarean section and 0.0368 for abnormal cardiotocography). Peripartal and perinatal outcome parameters were not different between the two groups. Conclusion: In women with isolated oligohydramnios at term, there is no impact on fetal outcome. Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) is a hepatic disorder in pregnancy linked with adverse fetal outcomes, which primarily manifests in the late second and third trimesters of pregnancy. This review aims to recapitulate the existing evidence on factors that can predict detrimental perinatal outcomes in pregnant women diagnosed with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy. We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Medline, and Embase databases and selected studies related to predictors of fetal outcome in intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy. Studies of the articles showed that predictors of an adverse fetal outcome include in vitro fertilization (IVF) pregnancy, multifetal pregnancy, biochemical markers, gestational age of ICP onset, presence of comorbidities (preeclampsia and gestational diabetes mellitus), maternal history of ICP, and hepatobiliary disease. Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) complicates the pregnancy. Hence, early assessment of low-risk and high-risk groups will help to administer definite management protocols and strategies to prevent adverse neonatal outcomes. Further research should concentrate on the number of conditions/factors and the predictive power of different factors to determine the most reliable predictors and biomarkers that can predict adverse fetal outcomes and improve the assessment of risk in pregnancy complicated with ICP. Background: Infertility affects about 80 million individuals worldwide and 10–15% of couples at reproductive age will seek medical assistance. There is increasing evidence that pregnancies after Assisted Reproduction Techniques (ART) are associated with pre-term birth, low birthweight, congenital defects, and increased mortality rates. The aim of this review is to assess all the published literature and provide an updated review on the effect of assisted conception and perinatal and neonatal outcomes. Methods: Comprehensive research on Pubmed/Medline, Scopus, and Google scholar electronic databases was conducted from July 2023 up to September 2023, using the terms assisted reproductive techniques, ART, in vitro fertilization, IVF, intracytoplasmic sperm injection, ICSI, preterm birth, PTB, low birth weight, LBW, chromosomal defects, congenital defects, and hypospadias. In total, 87 full text articles were retrieved and after a careful evaluation, 31 studies were selected for data extraction. Results: Our review demonstrated a higher risk of congenital and chromosomal defects, and a higher incidence of male genital tract defects and heart defects in ART pregnancies. Regarding pre-term birth, our results were contradictory. Conclusions: Although assisted reproduction techniques are associated with increased risks, they are safe regarding perinatal outcomes and couples should not be discouraged from utilizing them. Background: The patients who are of age 35 or more at the time of delivery are termed as elderly gravida patients. The topic is related to concern as in previous 2-3 decades there is a shift towards advanced maternal age due to multiple reasons and it can result in adverse maternal as well as perinatal outcomes. Also reduced fertility with increasing maternal age is evidenced by decline in ovarian reserve and quality. Materials & Methods: An observational retrospective study participated by 500 pregnant women. These 500 patients are divided into a group of cases consisting of 250 elderly gravida patients who are compared with 250 patients of control group of non-elderly gravida group. Results: A significant difference can be noticed in associated morbidities and mortalities in maternal as well as perinatal context with increasing maternal age. Along with elderly gravida patients are at higher risk of undergoing operative delivery as well. Conclusions: The elderly gravida patients should be considered in high risk group due to possibility of antecedent complications and should be counseled and managed accordingly. Background: Teenage pregnancy is a serious issue in both developed and underdeveloped nations. Causative factors being early puberty, early marriage, sociocultural factors, illiteracy, early sexual activity, lack of knowledge and access to contraception, ignorance, and poverty. Teenage pregnancy has been associated with several adverse consequences, including anaemia, preeclampsia, premature delivery, infants being small for gestational age, low birth weight, and increased neonatal morbidity and mortality. Materials and Methods: A comparative study regarding maternal and perinatal outcome was conducted between 100 cases of primigravidae aged 14- 19-year-old and 100 cases of primigravidae of 20-29-year-old attending Government Maternity Hospital, Tirupati and willing to give written informed consent. All high risk pregnancies were excluded from the study. Results: The mean age in teen age primigravidae found to be 18.1yrs where as it is 24.6yrs in adult primigravidae. There is no significant difference in distribution of unbooked cases in teenage and adult pregnancies. 19% of teenage pregnant women were illiterate compared to only 4% in adult group. 69% of teenage group and 52% of adult group belongs to low socioeconomic status. Majority of study participants are of term gestational age. Teenage pregnancy is an important risk factor for development of anaemia and hypertension incidence being 68% & 27% compared to that of adult group where incidence being 32% & 8% respectively. Preterm and IUGR is a common neonatal outcome observed in teenage pregnancies compared to that of adult pregnancies. 2 IUDs observed in teenage group and no IUDs in adult group. Incidence of failed induction and cephalopelvic disproportion were significantly more associated with teenage primigravidae. Majority of the adult primigravidae adopted for one or other method of contraception. Conclusion: Teenage mothers had numerous complications in pregnancy, anemia, pre-eclampsia, and preterm labor, oligo hydamnios, Thyroid disorders. Higher operational intervention and a higher LSCS rate are also contributing factors in the rise in maternal morbidity. Neonatal morbidity is also more in teenage mothers due to prematurity, low birth weight, and perinatal asphyxia. The objective of this study is to determine the perinatal outcome in pregnancies with hydropic fetuses. The study was a retrospective evaluation of data on intrauterine transfusion (IUT) done in hydropic fetuses for correction of severe anemia from December 2017 to August 2021 in AIIMS Jodhpur. The retrospective case series involves five cases that underwent IUT for severe fetal anemia. All had a sign of hydrops at the time of presentation. Out of five cases, four were of alloimmunized pregnancies while one was of hydrops fetalis secondary to parvovirus infection. The presence of severe hydrops at the time of presentation is a poor prognostic factor affecting fetal survival post-IUT therapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fetal inguinal hernia (FIH) is a rare event and only few cases were published in the medical literature. In the present study, we aimed to characterize the sonographic features, clinical presentation, management, outcomes, and differential diagnoses of FIH. Accordingly, we reviewed all 17 cases of FIH published in the medical literature, including one new case evaluated by our group. All 17 cases (100%) were male, and FIH is presented as a scrotal mass with a mean diameter of 38 ± 9.5 mm. The right side was dominant (62%). Peristalsis was reported in 80% of the cases, and blood flow was reported in two-thirds. Most cases were diagnosed in the third trimester (88%) at a mean gestational age (GA) of 33.1 ± 5.2 weeks. 60% of the cases had isolated FIH, and 40% had another sonographic or genetic abnormality. Three cases (18%) were syndromic with multiple malformations: trisomy 18, skeletal anomalies due to Jarcho-Levin syndrome, and undefined multiple joint contractures. Two cases (12%) had copathologies in the gastrointestinal tract: one had an echogenic bowel due to homozygosity for cystic fibrosis, and the other had low anorectal malformation. Bowel loop dilatation was observed prenatally in both cases and in another one isolated case (18%). GA at delivery was 38 ± 1.8 weeks, and the median time between diagnosis and delivery was 3 weeks. All three cases of neonatal death occurred in syndromic fetuses. All patients with nonsyndromic inguinal hernias underwent definitive surgical repair at a median of 13 days postpartum. No signs of strangulation and only one case of edematous bowel without necrosis have been reported. In conclusion, FIH should be suspected in male fetuses when an intrascrotal mass with peristalsis is diagnosed during the third trimester. Close follow-up until term in the absence of signs of bowel obstruction is reasonable, and in isolated FIH, the prognosis is favorable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Objectives: ABO and Rh blood types are known to have associations with health and disease, but studies on their relationship to pregnancy outcomes have been largely inconclusive. We aimed to examine the associations between ABO and Rh blood groups in pregnant women with maternal-neonatal characteristics and outcomes including hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, gestational diabetes, cesarean section rate, preterm birth, postpartum quantitative blood loss, birth weight, and appearance, pulse, grimace, activity, and respiration scores. Methods: At the time of delivery, 2497 consecutive patients were tested for ABO and Rh blood groups. Only those who delivered singleton infants were included in the analysis (2392 patients, 95.8%). Demographic and clinical data were obtained from the electronic medical record. Associations between blood groups and maternal-neonatal characteristics and outcomes were assessed using logistic regression models. A significance threshold of 0.05 was used for all comparisons. Results: Of the 2392 delivering patients, 46.9% were blood group O, 37.5% were blood group A, 12.2% were blood group B, and 3.4% were blood group AB. In addition, 85.9% were Rh-positive and 14.1% Rh-negative. A total of 2127 (88.9%) women delivered at term. The cesarean section rate was 32.4%, 183 (7.7%) had chronic hypertension, 275 (11.5%) had gestational diabetes, and 396 (16.6%) had a postpartum hemorrhage. The median birth weight was 3330 g (interquartile range 2940-3640). No blood groups were significantly associated with these characteristic and outcome measures. Conclusion: At the time of delivery, no significant associations were identified between ABO and Rh blood groups and maternal-neonatal characteristics and outcomes in this delivery cohort of over 2000 women. Introduction: Hypertensive disorders are the most common medical disorders encountered in pregnancy approximately 7% to 10% of all pregnancies. Hypertensive disorders are associated with foetal growth restriction, perinatal asphyxia, Iatrogenic prematurity, still births, preterm delivery, perinatal death, neonatal mortality and affects vital maternal organ system such as hepatic, renal, cardiorespiratory, cerebral and haematologic leading to maternal morbidity and mortality. The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of severe pre-eclampsia, eclampsia and HELLP syndrome in our Hospital and its maternal and foetal outcome. Materials and Methods: This is retrospective study done in Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Government General Hospital, Guntur over a period of six months (July 2023 to December 2023). All women presenting with severe pre-eclampsia, pre-eclampsia with imminent features, eclampsia and HELLP syndrome attending Labour room, Government General hospital Guntur were included in this study. Women with gestational HTN, nonsevere pre-eclampsia, chronic HTN were excluded. Ethical approval was obtained from institutional ethical committee. Out of all the total deliveries, 130 were studied. All detailed data such as demographic data, maternal age, parity, mode of delivery, obstetrical history, obstetric outcome, maternal complications, and foetal outcome were recorded. Results: 130 cases were recorded out of 3007deliveries. Among these, 66 cases were severe pre-eclampsia (50.76%),33 cases were imminent eclampsia(25.38%), 27 cases were Eclampsia(20.76%), four cases were HELLP syndrome(3%). The total prevalence was4.32% in our study. Majority of them were primigravida(61.53%) and belong to an age group of 20 to 25 (60%). Majority of them were delivered by caesarean section (67.69%). Most complications were seen in the eclampsia group. Prematurity was seen in 60.75% and LBW seen in 40.57%. 10 cases were IUD and 15 were neonatal deaths. Conclusion: It is one of the important causes of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality probably resulting from inadequate and suboptimal antenatal care and lack of education and awareness amongst people belonging to low socio-economic status. The high prevalence of hypertensive disorders complicates the maternal and foetal outcome. Antenatal surveillance, early detection, prompt treatment and early intervention and timely termination of pregnancy could reduce the maternal morbidity and mortality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To describe the perinatal outcome of fetuses predicted to be large‐for‐gestational age (LGA) on universal third‐trimester ultrasound in non‐diabetic pregnancies of women attempting vaginal delivery. Methods: This was a prospective population‐based cohort study of patients from a single tertiary maternity unit in the UK offering universal third‐trimester ultrasound and practicing expectant management of suspected LGA until 41–42 weeks. All women with a singleton pregnancy and an estimated due date between January 2014 and September 2019 were included. Women delivering before 37 weeks, those having a planned Cesarean delivery, those with pre‐existing or gestational diabetes, those with fetal abnormalities and those who did not undergo a third‐trimester scan were excluded from the assessment of perinatal outcome of cases with LGA predicted on ultrasound after implementation of the universal scan period. Association of LGA on universal third‐trimester ultrasound screening and perinatal adverse outcome was assessed, with the exposures of interest being estimated fetal weight (EFW) at the 90th–95th, > 95th and > 99th percentile. The reference group was composed of fetuses with EFW at the 30th–70th percentile. Analysis was performed using multivariate logistic regression. The evaluated adverse perinatal outcomes included a composite outcome of admission to neonatal intensive care unit, Apgar score < 7 at 5 min and arterial cord pH < 7.1 (CAO1) and a composite outcome of stillbirth, neonatal death and hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (CAO2). Secondary maternal outcomes were induction of labor, mode of delivery, postpartum hemorrhage, shoulder dystocia and obstetric anal sphincter injury. Results: Cases with EFW > 95th percentile on universal third‐trimester scan were at increased risk of CAO1 (adjusted odds ratio (aOR), 2.18 (95% CI, 1.69–2.80)) and CAO2 (aOR, 2.58 (95% CI, 1.05–6.34)). Cases with EFW at the 90th–95th percentile had a less pronounced increase in the risk of CAO1 (aOR, 1.35 (95% CI, 1.02–1.78)) and were not at increased risk of CAO2. All pregnancies with a fetus predicted to be LGA were at increased risk of all of the evaluated secondary maternal outcomes except for obstetric anal sphincter injury. The risk of adverse maternal outcome was typically higher with increasing EFW. Post‐hoc exploration of data suggested that shoulder dystocia had a limited contribution to composite adverse perinatal outcomes in LGA cases (population attributable fraction of 10.8% for CAO1 and 29.1% for CAO2). Conclusions: Cases with EFW > 95th percentile are at increased risk of severe adverse perinatal outcome, such as death and hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy. Background/Aim: Due to still controversial discussion regarding appropriate termination of low-risk singleton pregnancies beyond term, this retrospective study aimed to evaluate maternal and perinatal outcomes depending on gestational age and obstetric management. Patients and Methods: This is a retrospective cohort analysis including 3.242 low-risk singleton deliveries at the Department of Obstetrics of the University Hospital of Cologne between 2017 and 2022. According to current national guidelines, the cohort was subdivided into three gestational groups, group 1: 40+0- 40+6 weeks, group 2: 40+7-40+10 weeks and group 3>40+10 weeks. Results: In our cohort, advanced gestational age was associated with higher rates of secondary caesarean sections, lower rates of spontaneous vaginal deliveries, higher rates of meconium-stained amniotic fluid and depressed neonates with APGAR < 7 after 5 min. Analyzing obstetric management, induction of labor significantly increased the rate of secondary sections and reduced the rate of spontaneous deliveries, while the percentage of assistant vaginal deliveries was independent from obstetric management and gestational age. Induction of labor also significantly enhanced the need for tocolytic subpartu and epidural anesthesia and caused higher rates of abnormalities in cardiotocography (CTG), which also resulted in more frequent fetal scalp blood testing; however, the rate of fetal acidosis was independent of both obstetric management and gestational age. Conclusion: Our study supports expectant management of low-risk pregnancies beyond term, as induction of labor increased the rate of secondary sections and did not improve perinatal outcome. Background COVID-19 is an infectious pathology that shows vascular changes during pregnancy, as well as in the placentas. The main objectives of this study were to estimate the prevalence and the risk factors for preeclampsia in hospitalized pregnant women with COVID-19. As well as comparing maternal and perinatal outcomes in hospitalized pregnant women with COVID-19 and preeclampsia with those without preeclampsia. Methods Prospective cohort study of 100 hospitalized pregnant women from two tertiary hospitals, diagnosed with COVID-19, and divided into two groups: PE+ group (pregnant women with COVID-19 and preeclampsia) and PE- group (pregnant women with COVID-19 without preeclampsia). These pregnant women had prevalence, risk factors, maternal and perinatal data analyzed. Results The prevalence of preeclampsia was 11%. Severe COVID-19 was the main risk factor for preeclampsia (OR = 8.18 [CI 1.53–43.52]), as well as fetal growth restriction was the main perinatal outcome (OR = 8.90 [CI 1.52–38.4]). Comorbidities were more frequent in the PE+ group (63.6% vs 31.5%, p = 0.03), as well as prematurity (81.8% vs 41.6%, p = 0.02), low birth weight (63.6% vs 24.7%, p = 0.01), and the need for neonatal intensive care admission of the newborn (63.6% vs 27.0%, p = 0.03). Pregnant women with PE had twice as long a length of stay in the intensive care unit (RR = 2.35 [CI 1.34–4.14]). Although maternal mortality was more frequent among pregnant women with PE, it was not statistically significant. Conclusions Prevalence of preeclampsia in hospitalized pregnant women with COVID-19 was 11%. Severe COVID-19 was the main risk factor for preeclampsia and associated comorbidities increased the risk for developing preeclampsia. Long length of stay in the intensive care unit was the main maternal outcome and fetal growth restriction was the main perinatal outcome of preeclampsia.

Abstract Background At present, there are several studies on abortion history and perinatal outcomes, but there is no unified conclusion whether the history of abortion and different types of abortion are related to perinatal complications of subsequent pregnancy. We aim to study the impact of different types of abortion history on perinatal outcomes of singleton pregnancies. Methods This was a retrospective study from a maternity and infant hospital in Shanghai, China from 2016 to 2020. Pregnant women who gave birth to live singleton infant were included (n = 75,773). We classified abortion into spontaneous abortion (SAB) and induced abortion (IA). We compared the perinatal outcomes of singleton pregnancies with different abortion histories and used Logistic regression analysis to evaluate the associations between pre-pregnancy abortion history with perinatal outcomes. Results We observed that pregnant women with a history of abortion were more likely to have a premature delivery (0.99% VS 0.45%), gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) (13.40% VS 10.29%), placenta abnormality (8.16% VS 5.06%), placenta previa (5.65% VS 3.75%), placenta accreta (0.18% VS 0.04%), and placenta adhesion (2.79% VS 1.03%) than those who obtained singleton pregnancies without a history of abortion. When confounding factors were adjusted, differences in placenta abnormality still existed (excluding placenta abruption). The odds ratios and 95% confidence interval of placenta previa, placenta accreta, and placenta adhesion in pregnant women with only SAB history, only IA history, and both abortion history were 1.294(1.174–1.427), 1.272(1.159–1.396), and 1.390(1.188–1.625), 2.688(1.344–5.374), 2.549(1.268–5.125), and 5.041(2.232–11.386), 2.170(1.872–2.515), 2.028(1.738–2.366), and 3.580(2.917–4.395), respectively. Conclusions Our research showed that pregnant women who have a history of abortion before pregnancy were more likely to have premature birth, GDM, placenta previa, placenta accreta, and placenta adhesion. After adjusting for confounding factors, we found that the history of SAB, IA, and both SAB and IA history were related to the increased risk of placenta previa, placenta accreta, and placenta adhesion.

Objective: To evaluate the maternal and perinatal outcomes following antenatal screening for ICP using a retrospective approach. Materials and methods: A retrospective study was conducted at the second affiliated hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing, China, from 2012 to 2017. Pregnant women registered for antenatal in our hospital were screened for ICP. The pregnant women with detailed delivery record and presenting with the diagnosis of ICP based on TBA level ≥10 mmol/L and abnormal liver enzymes were included in the study. Method: The pregnant women with detailed delivery records presenting with the diagnosis of ICP based on TBA level ≥10 mmol/L and abnormal liver enzymes were included in the study. 1410 pregnant women were enrolled in this study. We selected 940 pregnant women without the diagnosis of ICP as our control and 470 pregnant women diagnosed with ICP as our case study. Data collection and sampling in the control group was done using microsoft excel (version 16.61) random number generator. Results: The mean age of the pregnant women and the gestational age at the time of diagnosis of ICP were 29.01 ± 4.3 years and 31.90 ± 8.83 weeks, respectively. Background: Vitamin D deficiency is associated with several obstetric complications in singleton pregnancy. The aim of this study was to assess whether vitamin D levels affect the outcomes of twin pregnancy and if targeted supplementation can improve perinatal outcomes. Methods: The serum vitamin D levels of 143 women with twin pregnancies were measured during their first trimester. Those with insufficient (10–30 ng/mL; IL group) or severely deficient (30 ng/mL, SL group) since the beginning of pregnancy. Results: Women in the IL and DL groups had a higher incidence of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) compared to the SL group (24.8% and 27.8% vs. 12.5%, p = 0.045): OR = 1.58 for the IL group and 1.94 for the DL group compared to the SL group. In patients whose vitamin D levels were restored after supplementation, HDP incidence was lower than in patients who remained in the IL or DL groups (23.4% vs. 27.3%) but higher than those who were always in the SL group (12.5%). Conclusions: Insufficient or severely deficient levels of vitamin D in the first trimester are associated with an increased risk of HDP in twin pregnancy. The beneficial effect of targeted vitamin D supplementation in reducing HDP seems limited.

Apert syndrome is an inherited condition with autosomal dominant transmission. It is also known as acrocephalosyndactyly type I, being characterized by a syndrome of craniosynostosis with abnormal head shape, facial anomalies (median hypoplasia), and limb deformities (syndactyly, rhizomelic shortening). The association can suspect the prenatal diagnosis of these types of anomalies. The methodology consisted of revising the literature, by searching the PubMed/Medline database in which 27 articles were selected and analyzed, comprising 32 cases regarding the prenatal diagnosis of Apert syndrome. A series of ultrasound parameters, the anatomopathological abnormalities found, the obstetric results, and the genetic tests were followed. The distribution of imaging results (US, MRI) identified in the analyzed cases was as follows: skull-shaped abnormalities were evident in 96.8% of cases, facial abnormalities (hypertelorism 43.7%, midface hypoplasia 25%, proptosis 21.8%), syndactyly in 87.5%, and cardiovascular abnormalities in 9.3%. The anomalies detected by the ultrasound examination of the fetus were confirmed postnatally by clinical or gross evaluation or imaging. The management of these cases requires an early diagnosis, an evaluation of the severity of the cases, and appropriate parental counseling.

Background: Meconium is the first substance secreted from fetal intestines and consist of intestinal epithelial cells, lanugo, mucus, amniotic fluid, bile and water. Its formation begins around 10-12 weeks of gestation and the quantity goes on increasing as the gestational age advances and it is the post-mature baby who is at a greater risk of passage of meconium in utero and its consequences like meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS). Objective To observe the expression changes of serum microRNA-199a-5p (miR-199a-5p) and microR‑ NA-142-3p (miR-142-3p) in patients with severe preeclampsia (sPE), and to analyze their relationships with maternal vascular endothelial injury and perinatal outcomesso as to provide reference for the improvement of perinatal outcomes. Methods A total of 200 patients with sPE (observation group) and 200 healthy pregnant women (control group) were se‑ lected. The serum levels of miR-199a-5p and miR-142-3p were measured by RT-PCR. The serum levels of soluble endo‑ thelial growth factor (sEng), soluble vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-1 (sFlt-1), endothelin-1 (ET-1) and vas‑ cular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Pearson correlation analy‑ sis was used to analyze the correlations between serum miR-199a-5pmiR-142-3p and vascular endothelial function-relat‑ ed indicators in the observation group. According to perinatal outcomesthe observation group was divided into the poor outcome group (29 cases) and good outcome group (171 cases). Univariate analysis and multivariate Logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the relationships between serum miR-199a-5pmiR-142-3p expression and perinatal out‑ comes. Once the meconium is aspirated by fetus it may cause severe meconium pneumonitis, respiratory distress, acidosis and ultimately respiratory failure. STUDY QUESTION Is embryo culture in a closed time-lapse system associated with any differences in perinatal and maternal outcomes in comparison to conventional culture and spontaneous conception? SUMMARY ANSWER There were no significant differences between time-lapse and conventional embryo culture in preterm birth (PTB, <37 weeks), low birth weight (LBW, >2500 g) and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy for singleton deliveries, the primary outcomes of this study. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Evidence from prospective trials evaluating the safety of time-lapse incubation for clinical use show similar embryo development rates, implantation rates, and ongoing pregnancy and live birth rates when compared to conventional incubation. Few studies have investigated if uninterrupted culture can alter risks of adverse perinatal outcomes presently associated with IVF when compared to conventional culture and spontaneous conceptions. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION This study is a Swedish population-based retrospective registry study, including 7379 singleton deliveries after fresh embryo transfer between 2013 and 2018 from selected IVF clinics. Perinatal outcomes of singletons born from time-lapse-cultured embryos were compared to singletons from embryos cultured in conventional incubators and 71 300 singletons from spontaneous conceptions. Main perinatal outcomes included PTB and LBW. Main maternal outcomes included hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (pregnancy hypertension and preeclampsia). PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS From nine IVF clinics, 2683 singletons born after fresh embryo transfer in a time-lapse system were compared to 4696 singletons born after culture in a conventional incubator and 71 300 singletons born after spontaneous conception matched for year of birth, parity, and maternal age. Patient and treatment characteristics from IVF deliveries were cross-linked with the Swedish Medical Birth Register, Register of Birth Defects, National Patient Register and Statistics Sweden. Children born after sperm and oocyte donation cycles and after Preimplantation Genetic testing cycles were excluded. Odds ratio (OR) and adjusted OR were calculated, adjusting for relevant confounders. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE In the adjusted analyses, no significant differences were found for risk of PTB (adjusted OR 1.11, 95% CI 0.87–1.41) and LBW (adjusted OR 0.86, 95% CI 0.66–1.14) or hypertensive disorders of pregnancy; preeclampsia and hypertension (adjusted OR 0.99, 95% CI 0.67–1.45 and adjusted OR 0.98, 95% CI 0.62–1.53, respectively) between time-lapse and conventional incubation systems. A significantly increased risk of PTB (adjusted OR 1.31, 95% CI 1.08–1.60) and LBW (adjusted OR 1.36, 95% CI 1.08–1.72) was found for singletons born after time-lapse incubation compared to singletons born after spontaneous conceptions. In addition, a lower risk for pregnancy hypertension (adjusted OR 0.72 95% CI 0.53–0.99) but no significant difference for preeclampsia (adjusted OR 0.87, 95% CI 0.68–1.12) was found compared to spontaneous conceptions. Subgroup analyses showed that some risks were related to the day of embryo transfer, with more adverse outcomes after blastocyst transfer in comparison to cleavage stage transfer. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION This study is retrospective in design and different clinical strategies may have been used to select specific patient groups for time-lapse versus conventional incubation. The number of patients is limited and larger datasets are required to obtain more precise estimates and adjust for possible effect of additional embryo culture variables. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS Embryo culture in time-lapse systems is not associated with major differences in perinatal and maternal outcomes, compared to conventional embryo culture, suggesting that this technology is an acceptable alternative for embryo incubation. STUDY QUESTION Does the transfer of single low-grade blastocysts result in acceptable reproductive and perinatal outcomes compared to the transfer of single good-grade blastocysts? SUMMARY ANSWER The transfer of single low-grade blastocysts resulted in a reduced live birth rate of around 30% (14% for very low-grade blastocysts) compared to 44% for single good-grade blastocysts, but does not lead to more adverse perinatal outcomes. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY It is known that low-grade blastocysts can result in live births. However, the current studies are limited by relatively small sample sizes and single-centre designs. Furthermore, evidence on perinatal outcomes after transferring low-grade blastocysts is limited. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION We conducted a multi-centre, multi-national retrospective cohort study of 10 018 women undergoing 10 964 single blastocyst transfer cycles between 2009 and 2020 from 14 clinics across Australia, China, and New Zealand. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS Blastocysts were graded individually based on assessment of the morphology and development of the inner cell mass (ICM) and trophectoderm (TE), and were grouped into three quality categories: good- (AB, AB, or BA), moderate- (BB), and low-grade (grade C for ICM or TE) blastocysts. CC blastocysts were individually grouped as very low-grade blastocysts. Logistic regression with generalized estimating equation was used to analyse the association between blastocyst quality and live birth as well as other reproductive outcomes. Binomial, multinomial logistic, or linear regression was used to investigate the association between blastocyst quality and perinatal outcomes. Odds ratio (OR), adjusted OR (aOR), adjusted regression coefficient, and their 95% CIs are presented. Statistical significance was set at P  <   0.05. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE There were 4386 good-grade blastocysts, 3735 moderate-grade blastocysts, and 2843 low-grade blastocysts were included in the analysis, for which the live birth rates were 44.4%, 38.6%, and 30.2%, respectively. Compared to good-grade blastocysts, the live birth rate of low-grade blastocysts was significantly lower (aOR of 0.48 (0.41–0.55)). Very low-grade blastocysts were associated with an even lower live birth rate (aOR 0.30 (0.18–0.52)) and their absolute live birth rate was 13.7%. There were 4132 singleton live births included in the analysis of perinatal outcomes. Compared with good-grade blastocysts, low-grade blastocysts had comparable preterm birth rates (<37 weeks, aOR 1.00 (0.65–1.54)), birthweight Z-scores (adjusted regression coefficient 0.02 (0.09–0.14)), and rates of very low birth weight (<1500 g, aOR 0.84 (0.22–3.25)), low birth weight (1500–2500 g, aOR 0.96 (0.56–1.65)), high birth weight (>4500 g, aOR 0.93 (0.37–2.32)), small for gestational age (aOR 1.63 (0.91–2.93)), and large for gestational age (aOR 1.28 (0.97–1.70)). LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION Due to the nature of the retrospective design, residual confounding could not be excluded. In addition, the number of events for some perinatal outcomes was small. Between-operator and between-laboratory variations in blastocyst assessment were difficult to control. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS Patients undergoing IVF should be informed that low-grade blastocysts result in a lower live birth rate, however they do not increase the risk of adverse perinatal outcomes. The aim of the study is to compare the perinatal outcomes of twin pregnancies resulting from assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment in which granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) was used with those in which it was not. In this retrospective study, the clinical data of 122 dichorionic diamniotic twin pregnancies were reviewed. Pregnancies were divided into two groups, G-CSF-treated and non-G-CSF treated. Maternal age, gestational week at birth, oligohydramnios, gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia, preterm birth, first-trimester bleeding, gestational diabetes, rupture of membrane, foetal congenital anomalies, admission to the neonatal intensive care unit, birth weight (BW), small for gestational age, BW discordance, Apgar score and placental weight were compared between the groups. What is already known on this subject? Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) administrations increase pregnancy outcomes and do not have a negative effect on perinatal outcomes in singleton pregnancies. What the results of this study add? This study showed that the perinatal outcome of dichorionic diamniotic twin pregnancies conceived after assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment was similar in the GSF administrated and non-GSF administrated groups. Background: At present, there are several studies on abortion history and perinatal outcomes, but there is no unified conclusion whether the history of abortion and different types of abortion are related to perinatal complications of subsequent pregnancy. We aim to study the impact of different types of abortion history on perinatal outcomes of singleton pregnancies. Methods: This was a retrospective study from a maternity and infant hospital in Shanghai, China from 2016 to 2020. Pregnant women who gave birth to live singleton infant were included (n = 75,773). We classified abortion into spontaneous abortion (SAB) and induced abortion (IA). We compared the perinatal outcomes of singleton pregnancies with different abortion histories and used Logistic regression analysis to evaluate the associations between pre-pregnancy abortion history with perinatal outcomes. Results: We observed that pregnant women with a history of abortion were more likely to have a premature delivery (0.99% VS 0.45%), gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) (13.40% VS 10.29%), placenta abnormality (8.16% VS 5.06%), placenta previa (5.65% VS 3.75%), placenta accreta (0.18% VS 0.04%), and placenta adhesion (2.79% VS 1.03%) than those who obtained singleton pregnancies without a history of abortion. When confounding factors were adjusted, differences in placenta abnormality still existed (excluding placenta abruption). The odds ratios and 95% confidence interval of placenta previa, placenta accreta, and placenta adhesion in pregnant women with only SAB history, only IA history, and both abortion history were 1.294(1.174–1.427), 1.272(1.159–1.396), and 1.390(1.188–1.625), 2.688(1.344–5.374), 2.549(1.268–5.125), and 5.041(2.232–11.386), 2.170(1.872–2.515), 2.028(1.738–2.366), and 3.580(2.917–4.395), respectively. Conclusions: Our research showed that pregnant women who have a history of abortion before pregnancy were more likely to have premature birth, GDM, placenta previa, placenta accreta, and placenta adhesion. After adjusting for confounding factors, we found that the history of SAB, IA, and both SAB and IA history were related to the increased risk of placenta previa, placenta accreta, and placenta adhesion. Background and objective: To define oligohydramnios with respect to age, parity, gestational age distribution, maternal morbidity, and perinatal morbidity. Method: The Department of OG, government Mohan Kumaramangalam medical college hospital, Salem, Tamil nadu, India conducted a prospective study. For 12,000 third-trimester prenatal moms participating in the trial, a history, clinical examination, and ultrasound were performed to determine the amniotic fluid index. Analyses of the results were conducted on 200 patients who had oligoamnios and were monitored. Result: It was 36.7+/- 4.1 weeks on average for gestation. It was 3 +/- 1.04cm on average for the amniotic fluid index. 24 percent of cases had gestational hypertension. 18.8% of pregnancies were postdated. Intrauterine growth limitation occurred 15.3% of the time. Vaginal births were just 37.6 % of births, whereas caesarean sections were performed 59.4% of the time. In 16.47% and 17.05% of babies, respectively, an Apgar score of less than 7 was recorded at 1 minute. 3.7 % of infants died in the first year. Conclusion: All oligohydramnios instances necessitate thorough prenatal testing, parental counselling, and individualised decisions on birth time and method. Purpose: We evaluated whether preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) could increase the cumulative live birth rate (CLBR) in patients with recurrent implantation failure (RIF) and recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL). Methods: The clinical records of 7,668 patients who underwent oocyte retrieval (OR) with or without PGT-A were reviewed for 365 days and retrospectively analyzed. Using propensity score matching, 579 patients in the PGT-A group were matched one-to-one with 7,089 patients in the non-PGT-A (control) group. Their pregnancy and perinatal outcomes and CLBRs were statistically compared. Results: The live birth rate per single vitrified-warmed blastocyst transfers (SVBTs) significantly improved in the PGT-A group in all age groups (P < 0.0002, all). Obstetric and perinatal outcomes were comparable between both groups regarding both RIF and RPL cases. Cox regression analysis demonstrated that in the RIF cases, the risk ratio per OR was significantly lower in the PGT-A group than in the control group (P = 0.0480), particularly in women aged < 40 years (P = 0.0364). However, the ratio was comparable between the groups in RPL cases. The risk ratio per treatment period was improved in the PGT-A group in both RIF and RPL cases only in women aged 40–42 years (P = 0.0234 and P = 0.0084, respectively). Conclusion: Increased CLBR per treatment period was detected only in women aged 40–42 years in both RIF and RPL cases, suggesting that PGT-A is inappropriate to improve CLBR per treatment period in all RIF and RPL cases. Purpose: To study the outcome of sequential cryopreservation-thawing of zygotes followed by the cryopreservation-thawing of blastocysts in the course of an IVF treatment on live birth rate and neonatal parameters. Methods: Single center, retrospective chart review for the time period of 2015–2020. Clinical and perinatal outcomes were compared between frozen embryo transfer cycles utilizing twice-cryopreserved (n = 182) vs. once-cryopreserved (n = 282) embryos. Univariate and multivariable analyses were used to adjust for relevant confounders. Results: After adjustment for maternal age, gravidity, parity, body mass index (BMI), paternal age, fertilization method used, the number of oocytes retrieved in the fresh cycle, fertilization rate, and transfer medium, the transfer of twice-cryopreserved embryos resulted in a reduced probability of live birth (OR, 0.52; 95% CI 0.27–0.97; p=0.041) compared to once-cryopreserved embryos. No differences in the sex ratio, the mean gestational age, the mean length at birth, or the mean birth weight were found between the two groups. Conclusion: The circumstantial use of sequential double vitrification-warming in course of treatment is associated with a reduced (but still reasonable) live birth rate compared to once-cryopreserved embryos. As the neonatal outcomes of twice-cryopreserved embryos are similar to once-cryopreserved embryos, this treatment option appears still valid as a rescue scenario in selected cases. Trial of labor after cesarean (TOLAC) is an alternative to repeated cesarean for women with singleton pregnancy and one previous transverse lower segment cesarean section (LSCS), resulting in most cases being a successful vaginal birth after cesarean section (VBAC). The primary objective of this study was to examine if the progress and the duration of the active first stage and the second stage of labor in nulliparous women with singleton pregnancy, spontaneous start of labor and vaginal birth differ from primiparous women succeeding VBAC after one previous elective LSCS in a country with a low cesarean section and high VBAC rate. Secondary objectives were to compare labor interventions and maternal–neonatal outcomes between the two groups. Methods: This is a retrospective comparative study. Data were collected in a four-year period at the departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Kristianstad and Ystad hospitals in Sweden. Out of 14,925 deliveries, 106 primipara women with one previous elective LSCS and a spontaneous labor onset in the subsequent singleton pregnancy were identified. Of these women, 94 (88.7%) delivered vaginally and were included in the study (VBAC group). The comparison group included 212 randomly selected nulliparous women that had a normal singleton pregnancy, spontaneous labor onset and delivered vaginally. Results: The rate of cervical dilation during the active first stage of labor as well as the duration of the second stage did not differ between the two groups. When adjusting for cervical dilation at admission, there was no significant difference between the two groups regarding the duration of the active phase of the first stage of labor. No significant differences were found in maternal–neonatal outcomes between the two groups except for higher birth weight in the VBAC group. The use of epidural analgesia was associated with slower dilation rhythm over the duration of the active phase and second stage of labor, need for labor augmentation, postpartum bleeding and need for transfusion at higher rates, irrespective of parity when epidural was used. Conclusions: Our study provides evidence that in women with one previous elective LSCS undergoing TOLAC in the subsequent pregnancy resulting in vaginal birth, the progress and duration of labor are not different from those in nulliparous women when labor is spontaneous and the it is a singleton pregnancy. The use of epidural was associated with prolonged labor, need for labor augmentation and higher postpartum bleeding, irrespective of parity. Introduction: Jaundice complicates 3 to 5% of pregnancies and is one of the important causes of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality worldwide. It is responsible for approximately 10% of maternal deaths. Aim: To study the prevalence of jaundice in pregnancy, evaluate the important causes of jaundice encountered in pregnancy, and study the effects of jaundice during pregnancy on both maternal and foetal outcomes. Materials and Methods: This prospective cohort study was conducted at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, from March 1, 2021, to August 31, 2022. A total of 90 cases of pregnancy with jaundice were included in the present study. Detailed history, clinical examination, laboratory investigations, diagnosis, management, and outcomes in terms of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality were recorded. Data were analysed using the Chi-square test, with a statistical significance level set at p<0.05. Results: The total number of deliveries was 20,087, out of which 90 (0.45%) patients had jaundice. The prevalence of jaundice in pregnancy was 4.5 per 1000. The aetiologies of jaundice were viral hepatitis in 23 cases (25.55%), followed by intrahepatic cholestasis in 22 cases (24.44%), preeclampsia in 13 cases (13.33%), and Haemolysis, Elevated Liver Enzymes and Low Platelets (HELLP) syndrome in 6 cases (6.66%). There were 12 (13.33%) maternal deaths and 17 (18.88%) neonatal deaths. Two (2.22%) babies were stillborn, and 1 (1.11%) case experienced Intrauterine Foetal Death (IUFD). The maternal death rate due to HELLP syndrome was 66.66% (4 deaths out of 6 cases). Conclusion: Viral hepatitis is the most common cause of jaundice in pregnancy. Although viral hepatitis due to the faecooral route is more common in India, the present study showed that Hepatitis B is more common during pregnancy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of early vanishing twin syndrome (VTS) and selective fetal reduction (SEFR) on surviving singleton births in in-vitro fertilization (IVF) pregnancy. We collected patients who conceived through IVF and delivered singletons over the past six years. The VT group (n = 194) and SEFR group (n = 144) had underwent double embryos transferred (DET) and only one fetus was born, due to the subsequent one birth reduction. The SET group had one embryo transferred (SET) and gave birth to singleton. Using the propensity score matching (PSM) method to reduce confounding, the VT group and SEFR group were matched and compared with 570 and 576 singleton controls, respectively (SET-I/II group). Obstetric complications and neonatal outcomes were compared. In addition, quantity and quality of transferred embryos of VT (n = 194) and singleton groups (born with singleton after DET and matched with VT group by PSM, n = 554) were compared. Compared with the SET-I group, VT group had increased incidence of severe obstetric complications, including severe preeclampsia (p = 0.031), oligohydramnios (p = 0.038) and polyhydramnios (p = 0.015). VT group was more likely to show more frequent small for gestational age (SGA) (p = 0.046) and very small for gestational age (VSGA) (p = 0.031). Newborns in the SEFR group had a significantly lower birth weight (p = 0.005) and were more likely to manifest as low birthweight (LBW) (p = 0.009) and very low birthweight (VLBW, birth weight < 1500 g) (p = 0.012), and the incidence of very large for gestational age (VLGA) was lower (p = 0.030), compared with the control group. There were more developmental abnormalities in newborns of VTS, for decreased incidence of SGA (OR 0.156, 95% CI 0.036–0.669), VSGA (OR 0.057, 95% CI 0.006–0.553) and VLGA (OR 0.415, 95% CI 0.212–0.815) in SEFR group. The good quality embryo rate was higher in VT group (72.7% vs. 63.3%, p = 0.001) compared with the singleton group. DET with subsequent VTS/SEFR carried a higher rate of adverse clinical outcomes, and the VTS group had worse perinatal outcome compared with SEFR. Therefore, we recommend SET in ART. Objectives: The objective of this study was to observe the influence of laparoscopic adenomyomectomy on perinatal outcomes. Materials and Methods: The retrospective cohort study included 43 pregnant cases with adenomyosis who did not undergo laparoscopic surgery before pregnancy (nonsurgery group; 26 cases) and did (surgery group; 17 cases). To evaluate the impact of surgery on perinatal outcomes, nine obstetric complications including preterm delivery, hypertensive disorder of pregnancy, placental malposition, oligohydramnios, gestational diabetes mellitus, uterine rupture, abruptio placentae, and postpartum hemorrhage were selected. One obstetric complication was counted as one point (Maximum 9 points for one person). The obstetrical morbidity was compared by adding up the number of relevant events (0--9) between the two groups. Apgar score, umbilical artery pH (UApH), neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission, and neonatal death were also examined. Results: The surgery group had a significantly lower prevalence of fetal growth restriction compared to the nonsurgery group (nonsurgery vs. surgery; 26.9%, 7/26 vs. 0%, 0/17: P = 0.031). No differences were found in the morbidity of the nine obstetric complications (19.2%, 45/234 vs. 13.7%, 21/153), gestational weeks (mean ± standard deviation, 37.2 ± 2.4 vs. 36.4 ± 3.2), birth weight (2573.6 ± 557.9 vs. 2555.4 ± 680.8 g), Apgar score (1, 5 min; 8.0 ± 0.7 vs. 7.7 ± 1.2, 8.9 ± 0.6 vs. 8.5 ± 1.8), UApH (7.28 ± 0.08 vs. 7.28 ± 0.06), NICU admission (26.9%, 7/26 vs. 41.2%, 7/17), and neonatal death (0%, 0%) between both groups. Objective: To study the perinatal outcome in fetuses diagnosed with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). Methods: Thirty-two pregnant women with antenatal diagnosis of CDH in fetus, who delivered between 2018 and 2021, were included in the study. Postnatally eventration of diaphragm was diagnosed in 3 neonates and were excluded. Results: The median gestational age at diagnosis was 23 weeks (IQR: 216–261 weeks). The mean O/E LHR was 34.88 ± 9.03%, and the O/E LHR was significantly lower in fetuses who did not survive (40.81 ± 4.25 vs 31.26 ± 9.33; p = 0.0037). On ROC analysis, at a cutoff of ≤ 32.93, O/E LHR had a specificity of 100% with a sensitivity of 72.22% in predicting mortality. Cases with liver herniation were not significantly different between survivors versus non-survivors. The overall survival rate was 37.93%, and the leading cause of death was severe persistent pulmonary hypertension. Conclusion: O/E LHR can predict mortality in neonates with antenatal diagnosis of CDH. The presence of pulmonary hypertension was the leading cause of death in these neonates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Chronic diseases are potential risk factors for pregnancy duration and neonatal outcomes. This narrative review aimed to summarize the research results on the specifics of pregnancy in women with obesity and after bariatric surgery. PubMed and Google Scholar databases were searched. Systematic reviews, meta-analyses, clinical trials, and references to identified articles from the last ten years (2013–2023) were included. Ultimately, 107 literature items were qualified. It has been shown that women with obesity planning pregnancy should reduce their body weight because obesity is a risk factor for adverse obstetric and neonatal outcomes. Bariatric surgery effectively reduces excessive body weight and the health risks in women with obesity during pregnancy and their offspring. However, at least a year interval between surgery and conception is recommended. An interdisciplinary medical team should provide patient care during pregnancy with knowledge and skills related to people after bariatric surgery. Due to the increased risk of mental disorders, especially depression, it is necessary to constantly monitor the mental state of women and provide psychological support and education on a healthy lifestyle during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Introduction: The placenta with the umbilical cord is a vital link between the mother and fetus. Umbilical cord supplies water, nutrients and oxygen from the mother to the fetus. The most unique character of the umbilical cord is its coiling, where the contents of the cord course in a coiled helical fashion. The umbilical coiling index(UCI) can be measured antenatally using ultrasonography. In the present study we have attempted to assess the UCI antenatally by ultrasound screening and correlate abnormal antenatal UCI with the adverse maternal and neonatal outcome of pregnancy. Aims: To study umbilical coiling index ultrasonographically and to correlate it with pregnancy outcome. Methodology: 150 antenatal cases in the second trimester of pregnancy between 22 and 28weeks of gestation attending the outpatient department were included for the study in a continuous manner and subjected to antenatal UCI measurement. The cases were followed up till delivery and various factors were noted. Results: We confirmed that maternal medical comorbidities ( gestational hypertension and anemia) have a significant correlation with abnormal umbilical cord coiling index, either hyper-coiling or hypo-coiling or both.Some studies have shown a particular adverse effect being manifested in both hypo and hypercoiling. In the present study significant correlation of abnormal coiling has been found with only anaemia and hypertension in pregnancy. The question, therefore, arises:“Does abnormal UCI have any significant role in prediction of adverse outcome in pregnancy or is it just a random association?” This study does not reflect any significant role of abnormal UCI in the prediction of adverse perinatal outcome. Hence efforts to monitor UCI in the antenatal period may not have any justification in the present scenario. The latest edition of William’s Obstetrics also makes a similar comment. A population based larger study to generate cut offs for hypo and hyper coiling and finding any association between abnormal coiling and perinatal outcome may throw more light on the utility of UCI as a predictor of adverse outcome in pregnancy.

BackgroundIntegrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI) dolutegravir (DTG)-based antiretroviral therapy (ART) is recommended by World Health Organisation as preferred first-line regimen in pregnant women living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) (WLHIV). Non-nucleoside reverse transfer inhibitor (NNRTI)-based ART and protease inhibitor (PI)-based ART are designated as alternative regimens. The impact of different ART regimens on perinatal outcomes is uncertain. We aimed to assess the comparative risk of adverse perinatal outcomes in WLHIV receiving different classes of ART.Materials and methodsA systematic literature review was conducted by searching PubMed, CINAHL, Global Health, and EMBASE for studies published between Jan 1, 1980, and July 14, 2023. We included studies reporting on the association of pregnant WLHIV receiving different classes of ART with 11 perinatal outcomes: preterm birth (PTB), very PTB, spontaneous PTB, low birthweight (LBW), very LBW, term LBW, preterm LBW, small for gestational age (SGA), very SGA (VSGA), stillbirth, and neonatal death. Pairwise random-effects meta-analyses compared the risk of each adverse perinatal outcome among WLHIV receiving INSTI-ART, NNRTI-ART, PI-ART, and nucleoside reverse transfer inhibitor (NRTI)-based ART, and compared specific “third drugs” from different ART classes. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses were conducted based on country income status and study quality.ResultsThirty cohort studies published in 2006–2022, including 222,312 pregnant women, met the eligibility criteria. Random-effects meta-analyses found no evidence that INSTI-ART is associated with adverse perinatal outcomes compared to NNRTI-ART and PI-ART. We found that PI-ART is associated with a significantly increased risk of SGA (RR 1.28, 95% confidence interval (95% CI) [1.09, 1.51], p = 0.003) and VSGA (RR 1.41, 95% CI [1.08, 1.83], p = 0.011), compared to NNRTI-ART. Specifically, lopinavir/ritonavir (LPV/r) was associated with an increased risk of SGA (RR 1.40, 95% CI [1.18, 1.65], p = 0.003) and VSGA (RR 1.84, 95% CI [1.37, 2.45], p = 0.002), compared to efavirenz, but not compared to nevirapine. We found no evidence that any class of ART or specific “third drug” was associated with an increased risk of PTB.ConclusionOur findings support the recommendation of INSTI-ART as first-line ART regimen for use in pregnant WLHIV. BackgroundPre-labor rupture of membrane (PROM) refers to a membrane rupture that occurs after the 28th week of pregnancy but before the start of labor. If not appropriately managed, it poses a significant risk to the health of the mother and fetus. However, information on the magnitude of PROM, contributing factors, and its perinatal outcomes was limited in Eastern Ethiopia. This study assessed the prevalence, predictors, and perinatal outcomes of PROM among pregnant women admitted to Hiwot Fana Comprehensive Specialized University Hospital (HFCSUH) in Eastern Ethiopia so as to guide specific preventive measures.MethodsA hospital-based retrospective cross-sectional study was carried out from May 15 to June 14, 2022, and data were gathered by reviewing the chart records of 424 pregnant women who were admitted to maternity and labor wards in the previous two years, from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020. Records were chosen using a simple random sampling method. Mother’s socio-demographic traits, previous obstetric and gynecologic history, current pregnancy history, habit-related history (khat chewing), ultrasound findings, laboratory investigations, mode of delivery, maternal and perinatal outcomes were extracted from the maternal charts. Bi-variable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to identify predictors of pre-labor membrane rupture. The association between the explanatory and outcome variables was expressed using an adjusted odds ratio with a 95% confidence interval.ResultsThe prevalence of pre-labor membrane rupture was 16.27% with 95% CI: (13.05–20.11). Among 69 women who experienced pre-labor rupture of membrane, 50 (72.5%) of them had adverse perinatal outcomes. Of all 69 neonates 17 (24.64%) were delivered with low birth weight and 20 (29%) of them were born preterm. The overall perinatal mortality rate was 10.1% or 101 per 1,000 live births. History of abortion [AOR = 2.61; 95% CI (1.09, 6.24)], urinary tract infection [AOR = 2.59; 95% CI (1.23, 5.42)], antepartum hemorrhage [AOR = 3.35; 95% CI (1.38, 8.13)], and khat chewing (a leafy plant which contains psychoactive chemical) in the current pregnancy [AOR = 2.63; 95% CI (1.49, 4.63)] were all significantly associated with pre-labor rupture of membrane.ConclusionIn this study, the magnitude of pre-labor membrane rupture was relatively high compared to the global rate. Prenatal risk identification and early detection of complications among mothers with a history of abortion, antepartum hemorrhage, urinary tract infection, and counseling on the effects of khat chewing during pregnancy are crucial to reduce the likelihood of pre-labor membrane rupture and its adverse perinatal outcome.

Pregnancies resulting from assisted reproductive techniques (ART) are increasingly prevalent worldwide. While most pregnancies conceived through in-vitro fertilization (IVF) progress without complications, mounting evidence suggests that these pregnancies are at a heightened risk of adverse perinatal outcomes. Specifically, IVF pregnancies involving oocyte donation have garnered attention due to numerous reports indicating an elevated risk profile for pregnancy-related complications within this subgroup of patients. The precise mechanisms contributing to this increased risk of complications remain incompletely understood. Nonetheless, it is likely that they are mediated by an abnormal immune response at the fetal–maternal interface. Additionally, these outcomes may be influenced by baseline patient characteristics, such as the etiology of infertility, absence of corpus luteum, and variations in endometrial preparation protocols, among other factors. This review aims to succinctly summarize the most widely accepted mechanisms that potentially contribute to the onset of placental dysfunction in pregnancies conceived through oocyte donation.

Objectives:1)To assess the maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity in uncomplicated postdated pregnancies in a tertiary care centre. 2) To find out the causes and rates of different modes of delivery in uncomplicated postdated pregnancies in a tertiary care centre. Methodology: A prospective observational study was done in the O&G department of JMCH, Jorhat, Assam from June 2020 to May 2021 among 110 uncomplicated postdated antenatal patients including both primigravida and multigravida willing to participate in the study and meeting both inclusion and exclusion criteria, attending the OPD and admitted at labour wards and their new born upto 7 days and maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity was studied. Data was collected using a proforma after taking informed consent. Data pertaining to mode of delivery, type of vaginal delivery, indications of caesarean section, maternal complications, birth weight, APGAR score at 1min and 5min, perinatal morbidity and perinatal mortality were analysed. Results: Majority of women belonged to age group 20 to 25 years (51.8%). 60% of them delivered vaginally,7.2% had instrumental delivery whereas 32.8% women required caesarean section, the most common indication being meconium stained liquor (25%). 49.1% of women were given induction by various means and 45.5% of them had successful vaginal delivery.12.7% babies had NICU admission with respiratory distress (28.6%) being the most common reason. Conclusion: Postdated pregnancies can be considered as a high risk pregnancy due to higher maternal and fetal complications. With regular antenatal check up, the incidence of post dated pregnancies can be decreased.

Abstract Background Thrombosis of one of the umbilical arteries is a rare complication of pregnancy and is associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes, including stillbirth and intrauterine growth restriction. Although extremely rare, umbilical artery thrombosis (UAT) in monochorionic diamniotic twins is difficult to diagnose prenatally and manage. UAT has a poor prognosis and is associated with an increased perinatal mortality rate. In most previous cases, emergency cesarean section was performed or intrauterine fetal death occurred at the time of UAT diagnosis. Case presentation: Herein, we report an extremely rare case of sequential UAT in monochorionic diamniotic twins diagnosed via ultrasound at 29+ 5 weeks of gestation in a 34-year-old woman. Following expectant management with intensive monitoring for 16 days, two healthy infants were delivered through an emergency cesarean section. UAT in both fetuses was confirmed by pathological examination. The mother and twins described in this case underwent long-term follow-up and are currently in good health without any complications. Conclusions Based on our experience, we suggest that expectant management should be undertaken as long as the mother and infants are stable on ultrasonographic scans and are closely monitored. When UAT is suspected, we believe that the best delivery time should be determined by considering complaints of unusual fetal movements, non-stress test evidence, gestational age, amniotic fluid volume, and blood flow in the umbilical artery, middle cerebral artery, and ductus venosus. Obstetricians should ensure that the patients and their families are clearly informed about all potential risks of expectant management for UAT.

Aim and objective: To correlate the association between postnatal umbilical cord coiling index (UCI) and perinatal outcome. Materials and methods: This is a cross-sectional study conducted on 220 booked singleton pregnant women with cephalic presentation immediate post-delivery. Both vaginal and cesarean deliveries were included. Umbilical cord coiling index was calculated and the variables assessed were gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), anemia, hypertensive disorders, oligohydramnios, polyhydramnios, meconium-stained liquor, mode of delivery in the mother and preterm, fetal growth restriction (FGR) and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admissions in the fetus. Results: Hypercoiled group or UCI >90th percentile showed a significant increase in cases of FGR (p-value 0.007), GDM (p-value 0.001), and polyhydramnios (p-value 0.0001). Hypocoiled group or umbilical cord coiling index (UCI) <10th percentile showed a significant increase in cases of preterm (p-value 0.01), hypertensive disorders (p-value 0.0001), meconium-stained liquor (MSL) (0.0003), and NICU admission (p-value 0.0001). The study did not reveal any significant changes with regard to mode of delivery, anemia, or oligohydramnios among the three groups (hypercoiled, hypocoiled, and normocoiled). Conclusion: The present study shows that the umbilical cord coiling index is a useful predictor of adverse perinatal outcomes. Cases with abnormal UCI (hypercoiling and hypocoiling) had a higher incidence of complications such as FGR, GDM, polyhydramnios, hypertensive disorders, MSL, and NICU admission. Background: Despite pregnancy’s hypercoagulable state, the correlation between inherited thrombophilia and thrombotic adverse pregnancy outcomes remains uncertain. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of inherited thrombophilic polymorphisms among asymptomatic pregnant individuals and to examine their potential correlation with adverse perinatal outcomes. Methods: in this single-center prospective study, 105 healthy pregnant women were included. Genotyping was conducted for factor V Leiden (FVL), prothrombin gene mutation, methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase enzyme (MTHFR) C677T, MTHFR A1298C, and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), alongside the assessment of protein C (PC), protein S (PS), and antithrombin (AT) levels. The study analyzed the association between inherited thrombophilic polymorphisms and pregnancy complications linked to placental insufficiency, such as gestational hypertension (GH), preeclampsia (PE), intrauterine death (IUD), fetal growth restriction (FGR), and placental abruption. Results: The prevalence of identifiable thrombophilic polymorphism mutations was 61.9% (95% confidence interval—CI 52.4–70.8%), with the most common single mutation being PAI-1 4G/5G (12/105, 11.4%, 95% CI 6.4–18.5). The most frequent combined mutation was heterozygosity for MTHFR C677T and PAI-1 (12/105, 11.4%, 95% CI 6.4–18.5). Notably, no FVL homozygous carriers or single homozygous and heterozygous carriers for prothrombin polymorphisms were found. Additionally, no deficiencies in PC and AT were detected among participants. Except for homozygosity for PAI-1, none of the studied polymorphisms demonstrated a significant association with pregnancy complications linked to placental insufficiency. Conclusions: The asymptomatic carriers of inherited thrombophilic polymorphisms do not have an increased risk of adverse perinatal outcomes.

Objective: To assess the obstetric and neonatal outcomes associated with adolescent pregnancy in Iran. Methods: We retrospectively assessed women who gave birth between January 1st, 2020, and January 1st, 2022. These pregnant women were separated into two groups: (1) women aged 19 and younger; (2) women aged 20–34 years. Main outcome measures include preterm birth, maternal comorbidities, preeclampsia, eclampsia, low birth weight (LBW), intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), placenta abnormalities, placenta abruption, chorioamnionitis, meconium fluid, fetal distress, methods of delivery, rate of cesarean section (CS), perineal lacerations, postpartum hemorrhage, childbirth trauma, shoulder dystocia, congenital malformation, and unfavorable maternal and neonatal outcome. Logistic regression models were used to determine the influence of teenage pregnancy on adverse pregnancy and childbirth outcomes. Results: Of 7033 deliveries, 92.4% of women were adults, and 7.6% were adolescents. Adolescents residing in rural districts were more common than adults (42.3% vs. 33.7%). However, access to prenatal facility care was the same as the majority of women had 6-10 prenatal care visits during their pregnancy. There was no difference in the risk of preeclampsia, placenta abruption, placenta previa, fetal distress, preterm labor, shoulder dystocia, perineal lacerations, childbirth trauma, congenital malformation, postpartum hemorrhage, intensive care unit admission, maternal death, and unfavorable neonatal outcome including stillbirth, neonatal intensive care unit admission, neonatal death in adolescent pregnancies compared to adults. Adolescents had a significantly higher risk of LBW (OR: 1.47, 95%CI: 1.01–2.73), IUGR (OR: 1.96, 95%CI: 1.31–2.45), and meconium fluid (OR: 1.74, 95%CI: 1.41–2.32), however, there was no statistically significant difference after adjusting the confounding factors. Compared with adults, adolescents had a significantly lower risk of CS (aRR: 0.67, 95%CI: 0.51–0.77) and a lower risk of gestational diabetes (aRR: 0.78, 95%CI: 0.51–0.95). Conclusions: Although we found no serious consequences of adolescent pregnancy, more research is needed to reach a more accurate conclusion about teenage pregnancy.

Background: Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are among obstetrics' most intriguing and yet unsolved problems. It is one of the major causes of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. This study estimates the prevalence of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, their associated risk factors and pregnancy complications in primiparous women. Methods: All primigravida who gave birth in our hospital from December 2020 to December 2021 were included in the study. The prevalence, risk factors, mode of delivery, and maternal and fetal outcomes of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy in primigravidae were collected from the patient's medical records. Statistical analysis was done using the SPSS 18.0 software package. The Chi-square test was used to analyse the association between the risk factors and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy in primigravida. Results: A total of 807 women were included in the study, and the mean age was 26.34 ​± ​3.84 years. The prevalence of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy in primigravidae was found to be 18.6%. Among the prevalent population, 79.3% of women had gestational hypertension. The findings indicate that hypertension in pregnancy has a significant relationship with risk factors such as increased maternal age (p ​30 ​kg/m2(p ​

The aim of the study is to compare the perinatal outcomes of twin pregnancies resulting from assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment in which granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) was used with those in which it was not. In this retrospective study, the clinical data of 122 dichorionic diamniotic twin pregnancies were reviewed. Pregnancies were divided into two groups, G-CSF-treated and non-G-CSF treated. Maternal age, gestational week at birth, oligohydramnios, gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia, preterm birth, first-trimester bleeding, gestational diabetes, rupture of membrane, foetal congenital anomalies, admission to the neonatal intensive care unit, birth weight (BW), small for gestational age, BW discordance, Apgar score and placental weight were compared between the groups.IMPACT STATEMENT What is already known on this subject? Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) administrations increase pregnancy outcomes and do not have a negative effect on perinatal outcomes in singleton pregnancies. What the results of this study add? This study showed that the perinatal outcome of dichorionic diamniotic twin pregnancies conceived after assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment was similar in the GSF administrated and non-GSF administrated groups. What the implications are of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? Using G-CSF to increase the success of ART does not seem to have an adverse outcome in the dichorionic diamniotic twin pregnancies.

Background: The utilization of frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) cycles has been linked to heightened risks of adverse perinatal outcomes. However, the potential association between adverse perinatal outcomes and distinct endometrial preparation regimens remains unclear. Therefore, we aim to investigate the maternal and neonatal outcomes after hormone replacement treatment (HRT) cycles, natural cycles (NC) and HRT cycles with pretreatment using GnRHa (HRT + GnRHa) for ovulatory women undergoing FET cycles. Methods: A large sample retrospective cohort study was carried out from 2016 to 2020. The data included a total of 5316 women who had singleton deliveries undergoing FET cycles and which were divided into three groups based on different endometrial preparation protocols: 4399 patients in HRT groups, 621 in GnRHa+HRT groups, 296 in NC groups. The outcomes consisted of maternal outcomes (cesarean section, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), placenta previa, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM));and neonatal outcomes (preterm birth, newborn birthweight, low birthweight, small for gestational age (SGA), macrosomia, large for gestational age (LGA), fetal malformation). Results: After adjusting for a series of confounding variables, we found an increased risk of HDP (aOR=3.362; 95%CI, 1.059-10.675) and cesarean section (aOR=1.838; 95%CI, 1.333-2.535) in HRT cycles compared with NC, especially for ovulatory women under 35 years old. However, in all three groups, newborn birth weight was not significantly different. Meanwhile, perinatal outcomes did not differ significantly in terms of perinatal outcomes in HRT +GnRHa cycles compared with HRT cycles solely. Conclusion: During FET cycles, singletons from HRT were related to higher risks of HDP and cesarean section, particularly for young women. GnRHa pretreatment didn't bring any benefit to perinatal outcomes compared with HRT cycles alone. Therefore, the natural cycle may be a more appropriate and safer option for young ovulatory women. Objective: It has been reported that monochorionic twin pregnancies conceived through assisted reproductive techniques (ART) display a higher risk of second-trimester miscarriage, cesarean delivery, and neonatal death than those conceived naturally. The aim of this study was to compare the perinatal outcomes of monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twin pregnancies conceived naturally and through ART in a tertiary hospital. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of all MCDA twin pregnancies that received obstetric care and delivered at La Fe University and Polytechnic Hospital between 2015 and 2021. MCDA pregnancies that were referred to the tertiary hospital for specialized management, follow-up, and delivery were also included. The study was approved by The Health Research Institute Hospital La Fe (IIS La Fe). Results: Among the 184 MCDA pregnancies, 149 (81%) had a natural conception, and 35 (19%) were conceived through ART. Patients with an MCDA pregnancy who conceived through ART had a significantly older maternal age (38.0 [35.5–42.5] vs. 32.0 [29.0–36.0], p < 0.001) and an elevated rate of nulliparity (80.0% vs. 50.3%, p = 0.001). Regarding pregnancy complications, MCDA pregnancies through ART were associated with a significantly higher incidence of gestational diabetes (22.9% vs. 2.7%, p < 0.001), hypertensive disorders during pregnancy (22.9% vs. 9.4%, p = 0.04), and other pregnancy complications such as threatened labor or preterm prelabor rupture of membranes (14.3% vs. 36.2%, p = 0.015), than naturally conceived MCDA pregnancies. No differences were found in the incidence of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (20% vs. 33.6%, p = 0.155). MCDA pregnancies through natural conception had a greater rate of vaginal delivery than MCDA through ART (16.8% vs. 2.9%, p = 0.032). When adjusted for confounding factors, MCDA pregnancies through ART were only more likely to develop gestational diabetes than those naturally conceived (aOR 7.86, 95% CI 1.55–39.87). No differences were found regarding neonatal outcomes between groups. Conclusions: Compared with naturally conceived MCDA twin pregnancies, those conceived through ART displayed a significantly higher risk of developing gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes mellitus is one of the most common endocrine diseases that occur during pregnancy. Disorders of blood glucose metabolism during pregnancy can increase the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes, such as pregnancy-related hypertension, preeclampsia, eclampsia, miscarriage, macrosomia, and neonatal hypoglycemia. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) can safely and effectively monitor blood glucose changes in patients with gestational hyperglycemia, thereby reducing adverse pregnancy outcomes. Hence, this article aimed to provide a comprehensive review of the progress and indications for using CGM in pregnant patients with diabetes. CGM can reduce blood glucose fluctuations and the occurrence of serious hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia events and can provide time in range (TIR). Objectives: The umbilical coiling index, calculated by dividing the total coil number to the cord length, is a representative parameter for umbilical cord coiling status. Recent studies have shown that abnormal umbilical coiling index is associated with adverse perinatal outcomes. Here, we aimed to determine this association at term gestation in our population. Methods: A total of 98 singleton, term pregnant women were included in this prospective study. Demographic, obstetric features and perinatal outcomes of the patients were recorded. Patients were grouped according to the umbilical coiling index as hypocoiled, normocoiled and hypercoiled. Recorded parameters were firstly compared between normocoiled (n = 60) and abnormal coiled (n = 38) groups. Then, they were compared between normocoiled, hypocoiled (n = 20) and hypercoiled (n = 18) groups. Significantly different adverse perinatal outcomes were compared between normocoiled and other groups. Results: Abnormal coiled group had an higher incidence of low fifth minutes Apgar scores, meconium-stained amniotic fluid, intrauterine growth restriction and acute fetal distress as compared to normocoiled group. No significant adverse perinatal outcome was detected between hypocoiled and normocoiled groups. Intrauterine growth restriction (p = 0.004), low Apgar scores (p = 0.046) and fetal distress (p = 0.038) and meconiumstained amniotic fluid were found to be more common in hypercoiled group than normocoiled ones. Conclusions: Abnormal umbilical coiling is associated with adverse perinatal outcomes. Hence antenatal measurement of umbilical coiling index could be a useful parameter to determine high-risk pregnancies and can provide close monitoring for fetal well-being. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: The impact of Covid-19 infection on pregnancy and perinatal outcomes is not fully known. To describe the risk factors and perinatal outcome of pregnant women with suspected COVID-19 infection. Methods: We evaluated medical records of women with suspected or confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection who received health care services at the University Hospital of São Bernardo do Campo from March 1 to July 31, 2020, and personal, clinical, and laboratory data of these women and their newborns. Results: Of the 219 women identified, 29% were asymptomatic. Considering the total population, 26% and 17% had obesity and hypertensive syndrome, respectively. Fever measured in the emergency room was the main reason for hospitalization. The presence or not of flu-like symptoms did not impact on perinatal outcomes. Pregnant women requiring hospitalization had newborns with lower birth weight (p < 0.01), shorter length (p = 0.02), and smaller head circumference (p = 0.03), and, in these cases, a higher number of cesarean section deliveries was observed. Conclusion: COVID-19 infection did not affect the prognosis of pregnancy and newborns. However, the worst clinical outcome, requiring hospitalization, had an impact on the anthropometric measurements of newborns. Objective: We aimed to evaluate the maternal and neonatal outcomes of refugee pregnant women who could not reach antenatal care. Study Design: In this study, 202 refugee pregnant women who were hospitalized in the delivery room of a training and research hospital between January 2013 and January 2015 and were not followed up during their pregnancy were included. Demographic, maternal, and neonatal outcomes of Syrian refugee pregnant women were evaluated. Results: The mean age of the participants was 23.9±4.8 years, the median number of gravida was 3, and the median parity number was 1. The mean laboratory values of pregnant women were as follows; hemoglobin 11.3 g/dl, ferritin 15.1 ng/ml, vitamin B12 179.5 pg/ml, iron 57.1 mcg/dl, folic acid 10 ng/ml, and 25 hydroxy D vitamin (25 OH D) 6.6 ng/ml. Oligohydramnios was detected in 19.3% of the patients, low birth weight for gestational age in 3%, anhydramnios in 2%, and intrauterine growth retardation in 1.5%. The mean birth week of the newborns was 38, the mean birth weight was 3096 g, and the mean height was 48.9 cm. Polycythemia was observed in three of the newborns. Anomalies detected in newborns; neural tube defect (n=1), hypoplastic left heart syndrome (n=1), duodenal atresia (n=1), hydrocele (n=1), ambiguous genitalia (n=1), anencephaly (n=1), facial paralysis (n=1) and esophageal atresia (n=1). As the number of pregnancies of the patients increased, hemoglobin, ferritin, and folic acid values decreased significantly compared to the reference values (p=0.036, p=0.012, p=0.044, respectively), and the 1st and 5th minute Apgar scores of those with low iron values were found to be significantly lower(p=0.000, p=0.002, respectively). In addition, there was a significant positive correlation between the 25 OH vitamin D value and the femur length measured by ultrasound and birth length (p=0.020, p=0.050, respectively). Conclusion: Pregnancy complications and adverse neonatal outcomes are frequently seen in refugee pregnant women due to insufficient care in the antenatal period.
