This study evaluated the salinity tolerance of five populations of Salvia subg. Perovskia (S. abrotanoides and S. yadngii). The aims of the study were to assess essential oil components, as well as growth and physiological parameters of two Salvia species in response to salt stress. Four different levels of salinity (0, 60, 90, and 120 mM NaCl) were applied. The effects of various concentrations of NaCl on essential oil content, composition, growth, water relation, proline, lipid peroxidation (MDA), hydrogen peroxide content, and antioxidant enzyme activity, as well as Na and K contents in leaves and the roots were evaluated. The results revealed that root dry weight loss was higher than that of shoots, indicating root vulnerability due to direct exposure to the salt stress. The lowest and highest oil content was obtained in PATKH (0.6%) at 60 mM and PABAD (0.6%) in 90 mM to 2.16% in PABSM population under 120 mM NaCl. Based on GC-MS analysis, 1,8-cineol (11.64 to 22.02%), camphor (2.67 to 27.14%), bornyl acetate (2.12 to 11.07%), borneol (2.38 to 24.37%), β-caryophyllene (3.24 to 7.58%), α-humulene (2.97 to 7.92%), and δ-3-carene (5.31 to 26.65%) were the most abundant compounds. Based on the principal component analysis (PCA), the most salinity-tolerant populations belonged to P. abrotanoides species. These populations are characterized by high root stress tolerance index (STI), root elements, and relative water content (RWC) with elevated levels of salinity stress. Finally, the findings might be useful in unraveling the salinity tolerance mechanisms for integrating stress tolerance with medicinal qualities in future studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Excessive levels of zinc have detrimental effects on plant physiology and morphology, hindering growth and development. This study aimed to elucidate the morphophysiological and biochemical mechanisms of Schedonorus arundinaceus in response to high concentrations of zinc exposure and to investigate the correlation between these parameters to identify potential stress biomarkers in this species. Plants were exposed to seven zinc concentrations (0-500-1000-1500-2000-2500-3000 µM) for 50 days. The results showed decreased dry weight, root area, photosynthetic pigments, root soluble proteins and stomatal conductance with increasing zinc concentrations. Conversely, proline, malondialdehyde and leaf-soluble protein content increased. Histological observations revealed altered stomata size and abnormalities in root tissue. Zinc accumulation exceeded phytotoxic thresholds (100-400 mg kg-1) even at lower concentrations, reaching a maximum of 3432 mg kg-1 in shoots. Visible Zn-P crystals were observed on leaf surfaces at the highest zinc treatment. These results suggest that S. arundinaceus possesses a notable capacity to bioaccumulate zinc, particularly in the roots. Furthermore, the strong correlation between proline levels and zinc biomass concentration suggests its potential use as a stress biomarker for zinc-induced stress in this species. This study analyzed the strategies and physiology that influence the performance of Thailand’s national taekwondo athletes. The study participants consisted of 20 Thailand’s national taekwondo athletes (16 males and 4 females), selected by a purposive sampling method. The samples’ average age was 19.12 ± 2.48 years. The average competition experience was 10.82 ± 3.97 years. Body composition testing and functional movement screening were performed. Competition situations were simulated based on the international taekwondo rules to test physiological variables such as blood lactate (La), heart rate (HR), Borg’s rate of perceived exertion (RPE) and maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 max). The matches were recorded using two video cameras at a frequency of 50 Hz to analyze strategies and tactics during competitions. In terms of body composition, the study participants’ body mass index was 21.40 ± 1.51 kg/m² and the body fat mass was 17.67 ± 5.18%. Regarding body types, 14 people with ectomorph, 4 people with mesomorph, and 2 people with endomorph body types were found. When comparing the mean scores of attacking targets in every round, 3 items were significantly different (P < 0.05): head guard (3.07 ± 1.67 times; 14.25%) and trunk protector (18.80 ± 4.72 times; 85.75%), technique kicks (17.48 ± 5.22 times; 79.12%) and delayed kicks (4.37 ± 3.59 times; 20.88%), and offensive kicks (15.27 ± 5.48 times; 70.73%) and defensive kicks (7.01 ± 4.00 times; 29.27%), respectively. When comparing the competition between Round 1, Round 2, and Round 3, it was found that the average amount of La, HR, and RPE were significantly different (P < 0.05) between Round 1 and Round 3. Hence, the study analyzing the strategies and physiological responses affecting the performance of Thailand’s national taekwondo athletes shows the important strategies affecting competition results as well as the physiological principles that can be used to plan the development of individual athlete’s training styles for future success. Salinity is one of the limiting factors that reduce crop production and yield. The salinity tolerance response of plants varies depending on the growth stages. Although the previous studies showed salinity tolerance responses of plants at early or late stages, the common early and late salinity tolerance response of rice plants has yet to be discovered. We investigated the common early (6-h salt exposure) and late (30-days salt exposure) physiological, biochemical, and transcriptome responses associated with salinity tolerance in salt-tolerant (ST) and sensitive (SS) rice genotypes with almost 99% identical genomes. The physiological salinity response of ST and SS genotypes appeared at the late stage. However, early and late biochemical responses of ST and SS genotypes to salt stress were observed in similar patterns. In the common early and late salt stress response, several transcription factors, such as OsbHLH120, OsbZIP61, OsYAB1, OsBBX19, and OsMYB19, and abiotic stress-related genes like OsVQ30, OsGELP4, OsRADC1, and OsPMEI28 upregulated in the ST genotype. The ST genotype improved salt tolerance in several ways. In particular, lowered Na+ accumulation, H2O2, and MDA content and improved photosynthetic pigments, photosynthesis rate, K+ accumulation, osmoprotectant proline, and antioxidant enzyme activity (SOD, CAT, APX, GR, and GPX) may relate the common transcriptomic response. These modifications collectively contributed to the improved salinity tolerance observed in the ST genotype at early and late stages. Current thermal comfort constructs are perceptional, and their relationships to the physiological responses are not fully understood. The latter are very important, not only to indicate personal comfort perception but also to protect personal health against cold and heat stresses. This paper combined a two-node bioheat model with the metabolic-based predicted mean vote index (MPMV) to uncover the relationships between the physiological responses and perceptional thermal sensation at steady-state conditions. The MPMV index accounts for sweating and non-shivering thermogenesis (NST) at the neutral comfort state and handles both core and skin cooling cases. Simulations were conducted for adults in typical indoor environment conditions. The physiological responses investigated included the body, core and mean skin temperatures, skin evaporative heat flux, shivering metabolic rate, and skin blood flow. The study revealed that only the mean skin temperature and skin blood flow can discriminate between comfort perception levels and can therefore be used alone or combined with other variables as alternative physiological indicators. The comfort range (MPMV within ±1) in terms of the mean skin temperature is maintained by regulatory sweating and/or NST and gets wider with increasing activity levels. Blood flow restriction (BFR) is a popular resistance exercise technique purported to increase metabolic stress and augment training adaptations over time. However, short-term use may lead to acute neuromuscular fatigue and higher exertion ratings. Objective: The purpose of the current study was to examine acute physiological responses to low-load resistance exercise utilizing BFR compared to higher-load, non-BFR resistance exercise. Methods: Recreationally trained males (n = 6) and females (n = 7) (mean ± standard deviation, age: 20 ± 1 yrs.; height: 172 ± 8 cm; weight: 73 ± 11 kg; BMI: 24.4 ± 2.2 kg·m−2; training experience: 4 ± 2 yrs.) had limb occlusion pressure determined (50%; right leg: 118 ± 11 mmHg; left leg: 121 ± 13 mmHg) using an automated, self-inflating cuff system during baseline testing. In subsequent sessions, using a randomized, cross-over design, participants completed one of two experimental conditions: (1) Low-load + BFR and (2) High load + non-BFR. In both conditions, participants completed one set of back squats at either 30% (BFR) or 60% (non-BFR) of an estimated 1RM for a max of 30 repetitions, followed by three additional sets with the same loads and a target of 15 repetitions per set. Blood lactate and countermovement jump (CMJ) height were measured pre- and post-back squat. Ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) were assessed following each set. Results: When collapsed across all sets, participants completed significantly more total repetitions in the BFR condition compared to non-BFR (75.0 ± 0.0 vs. 68.23 ± 9.27 reps; p = 0.015; ES: 1.03), but a lower training load volume (2380 ± 728 vs. 4756 ± 1538 kg; p < 0.001; ES: 1.97). There was a significant time-by-condition interaction (p < 0.001), with a greater increase in blood lactate occurring from baseline to post-back squat in the non-BFR condition (11.61 mmol/L, 95%CI: 9.93, 13.28 mmol/L) compared to BFR (5.98 mmol/L, 95%CI: 4.30, 7.65 mmol/L). There was another significant time-by-condition interaction (p = 0.043), with a greater reduction in CMJ occurring in the non-BFR condition (−6.01, 95%CI: −9.14, −2.88 cm; p < 0.001) compared to BFR (−1.50, 95%CI: −1.50, 4.51 cm; p = 0.312). Conclusions: Utilizing a low-load BFR protocol may allow for a higher training volume, yet lower metabolic stress and reduce neuromuscular fatigue compared to lifting at a higher load without the use of BFR. Drought stress is one of the biggest challenges in rice production, requiring effective fertilization strategies to improve plant resilience. This study evaluated the effect of ammonium sulfate ((NH₄)₂SO₄) and Chromolaena odorata (Cho) fertilization on early growth and physiological responses of rice (Oryza sativa L. cv. Inpago 11) under field capacity (100% WFC) and drought stress (50% WFC) conditions. Experiments were conducted using a divided plot design with three fertilizer treatments control, (NH₄)₂SO₄, and (NH₄)₂SO₄ + Cho) and two levels of water availability. Results showed that at 100% WFC, (NH₄)₂SO₄ + Cho fertilization significantly increased maximum growth potential (48.09%), vigor index (29.77%), and growth speed (16.60%.etmal-1 ) compared to the control. Total chlorophyll and carotenoid contents also increased by 50% and 63.8% in the (NH₄)₂SO₄ + Cho treatment compared to the control. At 50% WFC, differences between treatments became insignificant for most parameters, but proline accumulation increased by 62.5% in the (NH₄)₂SO₄ + Cho treatment compared to the control. This study shows that the combination of (NH₄)₂SO₄ + Cho effectively improves the early growth and physiological resilience of rice under optimal conditions. Magnetized water as an environmentally friendly method boosts crop yield and quality. In this study, we investigate the effects of magnetized water treatment on vegetation growth responses and physiological parameters and vegetation growth responses of maize plants and physiological parameters. For this purpose, we provided the experimental design for a semi-large scale in the field. We evaluated three irrigation regimes including 2.31 (100%), 1.73 (75%), and 1.15 (50%) inches per foot with magnetized water, and compared to normal irrigation water during the cultivation period. In the context of maize cultivation in the field, it is noteworthy that the use of magnetized water resulted in a higher germination percentage of maize seeds compared to those irrigated with regular water. Furthermore, the length, weight, and number of seeds per ear in magnetized water treatment, especially 100%, were significantly more than control, which increased grain yield (about 30%). Meanwhile, the chlorophyll content of maize was reduced in an irrigation-dependent manner the lowest was in 50% treatment but magnetized water increased photosynthetic pigment content in leaves. The distribution pattern of insoluble sugars mirrored that of soluble sugars under the irrigation regimes in both treatments. However, the application of 100% magnetized water notably enhanced soluble sugars compared to the control. In addition, the production of anthocyanin and carotenoid increased by magnetized water 100% in maize leaves. Proline accumulation was also noted to decrease with reduced irrigation water levels in both magnetized and normal treatment groups, ranging from 100% to 50%. Hence, our findings indicate that the use of magnetic water may enhance crop yield by facilitating the transport of sugars through the increased presence of photosynthetic pigments and enhanced sugar synthesis. This effect is likely influenced by the specific water quantity needed for maize irrigation in conjunction with magnetic water application.

Organic farming is gaining recognition as a viable alternative to conventional methods, promising soil health preservation and sustained crop productivity with economic benefits. This study evaluated the physiological, growth, and yield responses of the PSB Rc18 rice variety and appraised its economic feasibility under different production systems. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications and three treatments: T1-best bet organic production system, T2-farmers’ organic production system in Leyte, and T3-farmers’ conventional production system in Leyte. The crop growth rate (CGR) of PSB Rc18 remained consistent across the different systems. However, the Net Assimilation Rate (NAR) peaked significantly between 42-56 days after transplanting (DAT) in the T2. Additionally, the Leaf Area Index (LAI) in T1 was comparable to that of T3. Rice grown under T1 reached heading and maturation earlier than T3. Although T3 produced the highest fresh straw, most productive tillers, and heaviest total biomass, the grain yield was similar across all production systems. Economically, T2 outperformed with a superior benefit-cost ratio of $0.55 and $0.94 per USD invested, considering both regular and premium prices for organic palay. These findings highlight organic farming practices' economic and agronomic viability, suggesting that promoting organic farming can be a beneficial alternative to conventional methods in Leyte. This study underscores the potential for integrating organic practices to enhance sustainability and economic outcomes in rice production, making both T1 and T2 significant options for farmers in Eastern Visayas.

Abstract Ligusticum sinense cv. Chuanxiong (L. Chuanxiong), one of the widely used traditional Chinese medicines (TCM), is currently facing the problem of excessive cadmium (Cd) content. This problem has significantly affected the quality and safety of L. Chuanxiong and become a vital factor restricting its clinical application and international trade development. Currently, to solve the problem of excessive Cd, it is essential to research the response mechanisms of L. Chuanxiong to Cd stress. However, there are few reports on its physiological and biochemical responses under Cd stress. In this study, we conducted the hydroponic experiment under 25 μM Cd stress, based on the Cd content of the genuine producing areas soil. The results showed that 25 μM Cd stress not only had no significant inhibitory effect on the growth of L. Chuanxiong seedlings but also significantly increased the chlorophyll a content (11.79%) and root activity (51.82%) compared with that of the control, which might be a hormesis effect. Further results showed that the absorption and assimilation of NH4 + increased in seedlings under 25 μM Cd stress, which was associated with high photosynthetic pigments. Here, we initially hypothesized and confirmed that Cd exceedance in the root system of L. Chuanxiong was due to the thickening of the root cell wall, changes in the content of the cell wall components, and chelation of Cd by GSH. There was an increase in cell wall thickness (57.64 %) and a significant increase in cellulose (25.48%) content of roots under 25 μM Cd stress. In addition, L. Chuanxiong reduced oxidative stress caused by 25 μM Cd stress mainly through the GSH/GSSG cycle. Among them, GSH-Px (48.26%) and GR (42.64%) activities were significantly increased, thereby maintaining a high GSH/GSSG ratio. This study preliminarily reveals the response of L. Chuanxiong to Cd stress and the mechanism of Cd enrichment. It provides a theoretical basis for solving the problem of Cd excessive in L. Chuanxiong. Background and Study Aim. Monitoring physiological responses during training is crucial for understanding how athletes adapt to various exercise intensities. However, the specific effects of combining Small-Sided Game (SSG) and Speed-Endurance Training (SET) on these parameters require the search for more effective solutions. This study aims to determine the effect of combined SSG and SET on heart rate (HR) and rate of perceived exertion (RPE). Material and Methods. This quantitative research employed an experimental method with a weekly pretest-posttest design. The study population consisted of eighty-two members of the Unesa Soccer Student Activity Unit. A sample of eighteen individuals was selected through simple random sampling. The sample had the following characteristics: age 20±0.69 years, weight 65±9.54 kg, height 165.22±4.31 cm, and BMI 22.82±1.92. Data were collected using the Polar H-10 device, and RPE interviews were conducted ten minutes after each training session. Data analysis was performed using paired sample t-tests and Wilcoxon tests. Results. The results showed a significant difference in HR for pair 1 (p = 0.037), but no significant differences for pair 2 (p = 0.058) or pair 3 (p = 0.076). However, the results for RPE indicated significant differences in pair 1 (p = 0.001), pair 2 (p = 0.004), and pair 3 (p = 0.002). The combination of SSG and SET led to an increase in HR during the first and second weeks. In the third week, HR decreased. RPE increased from the first to the second week. It then stabilized in the third and fourth weeks, indicating a consistent level of effort. The decrease in HR during the third week, despite the same effort level, suggests that the athletes successfully adapted to the training program. Conclusions. The combination of SSG and SET demonstrates potential as an effective training method for improving both physiological performance and adaptation in athletes. These findings offer valuable insights into how athletes respond to structured training programs, providing a foundation for future research and practical applications in sports training. The results contribute to a deeper understanding of the role that specific training combinations play in athlete development and recovery.

Pre-weaning growth is crucial for achieving high weaning weights, which are expected to positively correlate with the overall performance of does/ewes. Milk replacer, designed to meet the nutritional needs of pre-weaning kids, offers a solution to this challenge. This study aimed to analyze and evaluate the impact of incorporating maggot flour into milk replacer on the performance of pre-weaned Peranakan Etawa (PE) crossbreed goats. The parameters observed included milk replacer intake, nutrient consumption, body weight gain, weaning weight, rectal temperature, respiratory rate, and feed cost per gain. The study involved 10 two-week-old local pre-weaned PE goats, each with an average body weight of 5.33 ± 0.93 kg, divided into two treatment groups with five replicates each. The treatments included a commercial milk replacer (P0) and a milk replacer containing maggot flour (P1). Data were analyzed using an independent t-test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that daily body weight gain in pre-weaned PE goats fed milk replacer containing maggot flour did not differ significantly (P0.05) from those fed the commercial milk replacer. The physiological responses of the pre-weaned goats, including rectal temperature and respiratory rate, were similar between treatments and did not negatively affect their physiological status. The lowest feed cost per gain was observed in the group fed the maggot flour-based milk replacer (P1), indicating its potential economic advantage.

This study investigated whether repeated transitions between seated and standing positions has a different physiological response compared to continuous use of either seated position or standing position during steep uphill cycling among elite cyclists. Ten elite male cyclists completed three 5-min treadmill cycling tests at an inclination of 6.8° with constant individual-based speed resulting in a work intensity close to the aerobic threshold. During the first and third test, the participants used standing position (ST test) and seated position (SE test) or vice versa, whereas in the second test, they made repeated transitions between standing and seated positions every 10 s (RT test). The last 2 min of each test was used to measure the mean values of oxygen uptake (V̇O2) and respiratory exchange ratio, which were used to calculate the metabolic rate (MR) and gross efficiency (GE). Additionally, the blood-lactate concentration before and after (Lapost) each test was determined. One-way repeated measures ANOVA was used to determine the effect of cycling position on the physiological response. No significant differences between tests were observed for the variables related to aerobic energy expenditure (i.e., V̇O2, MR and GE), whereas the RT test was associated with a significantly lower Lapost compared to the ST and SE tests. Steep uphill cycling, at an intensity close to the aerobic threshold, with repeated transitions between standing and seated positions, did not have a higher oxygen consumption; instead, the blood-lactate concentration was lower during the RT test compared to that under continuous use of either seated or standing position. Carbonate alkalinity (CA) is the major toxic factor that interferes with the survival and growth of shrimp in saline–alkaline water. Gills are the main entry organ for CA toxicity in shrimp. In this study, low-salinity cultured Litopenaeus vannamei were exposed to 5 mmol/L CA stress for 7 days and then recovered for 7 days to explore the physiological changes in the gills under CA stress and recovery conditions at multiple biological levels. The results showed that CA stress increased the activities of antioxidative biochemical indexes (T-AOC, T-SOD, and POD) and the relative expression levels of romo1, nrf2, and gpx genes, while it decreased the relative expression levels of the sod and hsp70 genes. In addition, CA stress also increased the relative expression levels of genes involved in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress (bip, ire1, and xbp1), immunity (alf, crus, pen-3 and propo), apoptosis (casp-3), detoxification metabolism (cyp450 and gst), and osmotic adjustment (ca, nka-α, nka-β, vatp, nhe, clc, aqp, tip4, and ccp). Although changes in some of the physiological indexes were reversed after the CA stress was relieved, they still could not effectively recover to the control level. These results reveal that CA stress has a negative impact on physiological homeostasis in the shrimp gills by inducing oxidation and ER stress and by interfering with immunity, apoptosis, detoxification, and osmotic adjustment. The present study aimed to elucidate the suitability of formalin and KMnO4 as therapeutics for fish diseases in Indian major carp, Labeo rohita, while considering their impact on fish stress levels. Acute toxicity tests revealed that the 96-hour LC50 values for formalin and KMnO4 were 66.58 ppm and 2.89 ppm, respectively. Sub-lethal concentrations of formalin (6.65 ppm, 3.32 ppm, and 2.21 ppm) and KMnO4 (0.289 ppm, 0.145 ppm, and 0.096 ppm), along with control groups, were administered to the fish for different exposure periods (24, 48, 72, and 96 hours) and different hematological, biochemical, and immunological parameters were analyzed. The findings demonstrated that formalin exposure resulted in a significant decrease (p < 0.05) in hematological parameters, immunological parameters, and serum protein levels. Conversely, formalin exposure led to significant increases (p < 0.05) in serum glucose, SGOT, SGPT, and ALP levels. In contrast, KMnO4 exposure significantly decreased (p < 0.05) hematological parameters and serum protein levels, while significantly increasing (p < 0.05) immunological parameters. To evaluate curative efficacy, challenge studies were conducted using three sub-lethal concentrations of formalin and KMnO4 against Aeromonas hydrophila (ATCC 7966) infection. Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is considered an important cereal crop worldwide, ensuring food security following the green revolution. This results of this study revealed an elevation of 10.6% in the root weight density and 15.0% in the root volume density during the flowering stage. The highly significant values for the root weight density, root length density, and root bulk density were recorded after the application of 180 kg hectare (ha)-1 of nitrogen (N) at both the flowering and maturity stages. Moreover, delayed senescence and an increase in the photosynthetic rate were observed at the middle and late stages of flowering, enhancing light energy interception and improvement in its utilization. Cultivar Yunhan-20410 exhibited a significant increase of 11.1% in the leaf area index at the flowering stage compared to Yunhan-618, which displayed an increase of 7.1%. The photochemical efficiency and photochemical quenching of the flag leaves were recorded 25-30 days postanthesis, and an increase of 9.6%-11.1% was found in the light energy utilization efficiency. The expression levels of genes TaTZF1, TaNCY1, TaNCY3, and TaAKaGall in the flag leaves of the wheat were significantly upregulated in Yunhan-20410 after the N treatment compared to the control. These findings suggested that high yield and quality can be achieved with a N application of 180 kg ha-1. The allelopathic plant Rhus typhina (Rt) has a shallowly distributed root system with a high density of secretory canals, which may allow it to exhibit indirect allelopathic effects through the soil on an understory turf species in a plantation. However, how these effects occur is still not well understood. For this study, the soil from the root zone of Rt was extracted via distilled water, and extracts at different concentrations (25, 50, and 100 g L−1) were used to treat six commonly planted turfgrass species, including Medicago sativa (Ms), Lolium perenne (Lp), Trifolium repens (Tr), Medicago falcata (Mf), Festuca arundinacea (Fa) and Coronilla varia (Cv), during a continuous germination–seedling culture experiment via the sand culture method. The germination, physiological, and growth indicators of the turfgrass seedlings were analyzed. The allelopathic effects of the soil extract at different concentrations on the six receivers were evaluated to provide a scientific basis for managing plantations with multilayer structures. The results indicated that, in general, the extracts of the soil from the root zone of Rt inhibited the germination and seedling growth performance characteristics of the mentioned turfgrasses; the inhibitory effects on Ms, Lp, and Mf increased with increasing concentrations of the Rt soil extracts, whereas those on Fa tended to decrease. In addition, the inhibitory effect on Tr obviously weakened at 50 g·L−1 relative to that at 25 g·L−1, whereas it became more obvious at 100 g·L−1; however, it exhibited the opposite trend for Cv. Generally, Mf and Cv were more sensitive to Rt allelochemicals at relatively low concentrations, and these species should be avoided when planting in Rt plantations at low densities. To better cope with stress in emergencies, emergency personnel undergo virtual reality (VR) stress training. Such training typically includes visual, auditory and sometimes tactile impressions, whereas olfactory stimuli are mostly neglected. This concept paper therefore examines whether odors might be beneficial for further enhancing the experience of presence and immersion into a simulated environment. The aim is to demonstrate the benefits of VR civilian stress training for emergency personnel and to investigate the role of odors as stressors by manipulating the degree of perceived psychophysiological stress via olfactory impressions. Moreover, the current paper presents the development and validation of a convenient and portable fragrance dosing system that allows personalized odor presentation in VR. The presented system can transport reproducible small quantities of an air-fragrance mixture close to the human nose using piezoelectric stainless steel micropumps. The results of the fluidic system validation indicate that the micropump is suitable for releasing odors close to the nose with constant amounts of odor presentation. Activity and physical effort positively affect a person's psychophysical state and emotional experience. Interest in the phenomenon of flow, the state of perceived arousal, stems from its relationship to an individual's intrinsic motivation. Flow is an area of research in many fields, including sports. Nowadays, solutions are being sought to support the traditional assessment of cognitive and affective states using analysis of physiological signals. Therefore, the present study analysed and estimated the physiological responses that may occur during the induction of a flow state between exercises stimulated by additional metrorhythmic stimuli. Thirty-six healthy subjects participated in the study. The effects of various metrorhythmic stimuli on the body's physiological response during the subjects' free gait were examined. The physiological response and flow intensity were evaluated when the rate of individual stimuli was changed, and the rate was enforced. Several statistically significant variables and correlations were determined for physiological indicators depending on the stage of the study conducted and the level of flow experienced. A positive, statistically significant correlation of flow and HRV frequency variables was obtained. Nitrite is the main environmental pollutant that endangers shrimp culture. Intestinal health is essential for the disease resistance of shrimp. In this study, Litopenaeus vannamei shrimps were separately exposed to 1 and 5 mg/L of nitrite stress for 48 h, and then the variations in intestinal health were investigated from the aspects of histology, antioxidant, immunity, energy metabolism, and microbial community status. The results showed that nitrite stress damaged intestinal mucosa, and 5 mg/L of nitrite induced more obvious physiological changes than 1 mg/L. Specifically, the relative expression levels of antioxidant (ROMO1, Nrf2, SOD, GPx, and HSP70), ER stress (Bip and XBP1), immunity (proPO, Crus, ALF, and Lys), inflammation (JNK and TNF-α), and apoptosis (Casp-3 and Casp-9) genes were increased. Additionally, intestinal energy metabolism was activated by inducing glucose metabolism (HK, PK, PDH, and LDH), lipid metabolism (AMPK and FAS), tricarboxylic acid cycle (MDH, CS, IDH, SDH, and FH), and electron transfer chain (NDH, CytC, COI, CCO, and AtpH) gene transcription. Further, the homeostasis of intestinal microbiota composition was also disturbed, especially the abundance of some beneficial genera (Clostridium sensu stricto 1, Faecalibacterium, Romboutsia, and Ruminococcaceae UCG-010). These results reveal that nitrite stress could damage the intestinal health of L. vannamei by destroying mucosal integrity, inducing oxidation and ER stress, interfering with physiological homeostasis and energy metabolism, and disrupting the microbial community. This study investigated how different relative humidity (RH) would impact behavior and physiology of laying hens. One hundred-eighty laying hens (Hy-Line Brown), aged 68-week-old (1,908 ± 78 g), were exposed to daily ambient temperatures of 30 °C with RH set at 25% (RH25), 50% (RH50), or 75% (RH75) for 12 h a day (9:00 am to 9:00 pm) from 70 to 74 weeks of age. All hens had been raised at 24 °C and 50% RH during 2-week adaptation period. Each RH treatment consisted of 10 replicates with 6 hens each in a completely randomized design. Results indicated that rectal temperature, respiratory rate, and heart rate were increased (P ≤ 0.05) in the RH75 group compared with the RH25 and RH50 groups. Plasma malondialdehyde concentrations were elevated in the RH75 group compared RH50 at 3, 7, and 21 days (P ≤ 0.05) following the RH exposure. Plasma glutathione peroxidase activity was lowered (P ≤ 0.05) in the RH75 group compared with the RH25 and RH50 groups at 21 days. Increasing RH led to decreased feeding behavior but showed a tendency to increase drinking behavior. Wings elevated and panting behaviors were higher in the RH75 group compared with the RH25 and RH50 groups (P ≤ 0.05). The circular aquaculture model of largemouth bass pond engineering has the characteristics of high yield and efficiency, but it is prone to stress caused by flow velocity and density, which affects the yield of largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides). γ‐Aminobutyric acid (GABA) is believed to have the effect of improving growth and stress tolerance. We divided the largemouth bass into three groups: a control group, a flow rate and density combined stress group, and a combined stress feed supplemented with GABA (0.9%) group, and conducted a 60‐day aquaculture experiment. The results showed that the final weight, weight gain rate (WGR), specific growth rate (SGR), and feed efficiency (FE) of largemouth bass significantly decreased in the combined stress group (P < 0.05). The serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT) activity, and glucose (GLU), malondialdehyde (MDA) level of largemouth bass significantly higher than the control group, and the serum lysozyme (LZM) activity and total antioxidant capacity (T‐AOC) were significantly lower than the control group (P < 0.05). After adding GABA, the final weight, WGR, SGR, and FE decreased, and the serum GLU levels, AST, ALT activity, and MDA levels were downregulated, and the serum LZM activity and T‐AOC of largemouth bass were upregulated. But most of the above are still at the level of the control group. Under combined stress, the messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) expression levels of growth hormone (GH), insulin‐like growth factor‐Ⅰ (IGF‐I), B‐cell lymphoma‐2 (Blc2), nuclear transcription factor E2‐related factor 2 (Nrf2), catalase (CAT), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) genes were significantly reduced (P < 0.05), while the mRNA expression levels of heat stress protein 70 (HSP70), heat stress protein 90 (HSP90), nuclear factor kappa‐B (NF‐κB), interleukin‐1β (IL‐1β), Bax and keap1 genes were significantly increased (P < 0.05). After the exogenous addition of GABA, all the above genes have a certain degree of callback, but GH, HSP70, HSP90, IL‐1β, Bax, Nrf2, CAT, and SOD have not yet reached the level of the control group. These results indicate that adding GABA to feed can alleviate the adverse effects of combined stress of flow rate and density to a certain extent and provide insights for solving the problems in the circular aquaculture model of largemouth bass. Ligusticum sinense cv. Chuanxiong (L. Chuanxiong), one of the widely used traditional Chinese medicines (TCM), is currently facing the problem of excessive cadmium (Cd) content. This problem has significantly affected the quality and safety of L. Chuanxiong and become a vital factor restricting its clinical application and international trade development. Currently, to solve the problem of excessive Cd, it is essential to research the response mechanisms of L. Chuanxiong to Cd stress. However, there are few reports on its physiological and biochemical responses under Cd stress. In this study, we conducted the hydroponic experiment under 25 μM Cd stress, based on the Cd content of the genuine producing areas soil. The results showed that 25 μM Cd stress not only had no significant inhibitory effect on the growth of L. Chuanxiong seedlings but also significantly increased the chlorophyll a content (11.79%) and root activity (51.82%) compared with that of the control, which might be a hormesis effect. Further results showed that the absorption and assimilation of NH4+ increased in seedlings under 25 μM Cd stress, which was associated with high photosynthetic pigments. Here, we initially hypothesized and confirmed that Cd exceedance in the root system of L. Chuanxiong was due to the thickening of the root cell wall, changes in the content of the cell wall components, and chelation of Cd by GSH. There was an increase in cell wall thickness (57.64 %) and a significant increase in cellulose (25.48%) content of roots under 25 μM Cd stress. In addition, L. Chuanxiong reduced oxidative stress caused by 25 μM Cd stress mainly through the GSH/GSSG cycle. Among them, GSH-Px (48.26%) and GR (42.64%) activities were significantly increased, thereby maintaining a high GSH/GSSG ratio. This study preliminarily reveals the response of L. Chuanxiong to Cd stress and the mechanism of Cd enrichment. It provides a theoretical basis for solving the problem of Cd excessive in L. Chuanxiong. Physiological and biochemical mechanisms of L. The changing global food scene requires moving various foods worldwide, stressing resources and causing environmental issues. In this context, strawberries have become popular in India, leading to significant imports to satisfy demand. Yet, it's crucial to start growing exotic fruits locally to ease resource strain. Adapting crops to new environmental conditions is crucial, especially in semi-arid climates with hot, dry summers and mild winters. This study investigates the physiological, morphological and biochemical aspects of growing strawberries in Agra's climate, using a holistic organic farming approach. Employing Infra-red Gas Analysis, the research observes an average photosynthetic assimilation rate of 11.5433 µmol m² s-1. Light curve analysis indicates an optimal Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density near 1000 µmol m-2 s-1. An average 138.4 µmol mol-1 disparity between Ca and Ci is noted. Plant height exhibits consistent growth, starting at 7.74 cm on day 0 and reaching 23.56 cm on day 60. The growth trajectory accelerates initially, signalling maturation later on. Leaf area expands from 17.03 cm² on day 0 to 88.93 cm² on day 55, crucial for photosynthesis and nutrient assimilation with 13.8 compound leaves, each consisting of three leaflets. Plant height correlates positively with leaf area, petiole length, diameter. The fruit contains 59.90 mg/100 g of vitamin C. The study found an average NDVI value of 73.11 and an average soil-plant analysis development value of 0.58. This research offers insights into improving strawberry cultivation in shifting climates and semi-arid conditions, aiding sustainable local production and decreasing reliance on imports. Animals spend a considerable proportion of their life span at rest. However, resting status has often been overlooked when investigating how species respond to environmental conditions. This may induce a large bias in understanding the local adaptation of species across environmental gradients and their vulnerability to potential environmental change. Here, we conducted an empirical study on montane agamid lizards, combined with mechanistic modeling, to compare elevational variations in body temperature and metabolisms (cumulative digestion and maintenance cost) between resting and active status. Our study on three populations of an agamid lizard along an elevational gradient revealed a trend of decreasing body temperature toward higher elevations, the main contributor of which was resting status of the lizards. Using population‐specific reaction norms, we predicted greater elevational variation in hourly and cumulative digestion for resting lizards than for active lizards. Climate‐change impacts, estimated as the change in cumulative digestion, also show greater elevational variation when resting status is factored into the analysis. Further, our global analysis of 98 agamid species revealed that in about half of their combined distributional range, the contribution of resting status in determining the elevational variation in cumulative digestion and maintenance cost of lizards was greater than the contribution made by a lizard's active status. Our study highlights the importance of considering resting status when investigating how species respond to environmental conditions, especially for those distributed over tropical and subtropical mountain areas. Heat stress typically causes substantial financial losses due to the reduction in animal performance and the increase in morbidity or mortality. It is essential to comprehend the physiological reactions and biochemical alterations through different body homeostasis during various environmental seasons to prevent harmful impacts of heat stress. Objective of this experiment was to evaluate the different seasonal dynamics of the Egyptian buffaloes' oxidative, hormonal, metabolic and physiological responses to the country's summer season climate. Throughout the year, the physiological reactions of twenty lactating water buffaloes were measured. These responses included rectal temperature (RT), respiration rate (RR) and body surface temperature (BST), in addition to serum hormonal, oxidative/antioxidant, and metabolic indices. Significant increases in RR and BST were detected in summer season in relation to winter season when the temperaturehumidity index (THI) was higher (>80). The heat stress during the summer season was associated with lower serum antioxidant enzyme levels and higher oxidative stress. Serum cortisol and hepato-renal functional bio-indicators were also significantly elevated in the summer and autumn. In comparison to former seasons, the levels of growth hormone (GH), triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), and adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) were also much reduced in the autumn and summer. THI was found to have a negative relation with physiological and antioxidant indices, but a positive relation with serum cortisol and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. According to our findings, lactating Egyptian buffaloes have considerable heat stress during the summer season, which necessitates greater managerial measures to prevent animal welfare concerns and economic losses. Global warming is contributing to an increase in the frequency of extreme climate events, leading to more frequent droughts that pose significant abiotic stressors affecting the growth and yield of sugar beet. To address the detrimental effects of drought stress on sugar beet seedlings, this study simulated a drought environment and examined the impact of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) symbiosis on seedling growth. The findings revealed that AMF inoculation under drought conditions enhanced the photosynthesis rate and increased the content of photosynthetic pigments in the leaves of sugar beet. Additionally, it effectively mitigated cell membrane damage in the seedlings, elevated the levels of osmoregulatory substances, and enhanced antioxidant enzyme activities in both leaves and roots. The inoculation of AMF regulates the physiological processes associated with sugar beet growth, alleviates the adverse effects of drought stress, and promotes seedling development. Consequently, AMF can be regarded as a valuable bioregulator in sugar beet cultivation under drought conditions, providing significant practical benefits for improving sugar beet yield. Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) significantly threaten the health and well-being of farmers who carry head loads. Despite the prevalence of MSDs, a major barrier to preventing this issue is the lack of awareness and training among farmers. In Mantalongon, Dalaguete, Cebu, vegetables are predominantly transported by head-load carriages, exposing farmers to substantial health risks. This study aimed to evaluate the perceptual and physiological responses of farmers to identify risk factors associated with head-load carrying. The research involved 36 farmers, examining the relationship between MSDs and various task-related variables, health history, and personal profiles. The results indicated that the farmers rated their work intensity as "moderate" on the Borg scale and could carry loads averaging 147% of their body weight. Despite these strenuous conditions, no significant statistical correlation was found between personal profiles, health histories, and reported pain and discomfort. Four primary risk factors were identified: (i) the load weight carried significantly affected the Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE) (p=0.003), neck discomfort (p=0.002), upper back discomfort (p=0.001), and heart rate variation (p=0.025), (ii) the terrain traveled was associated with upper back discomfort (p=0.025), lower back discomfort (p=0.046), and leg discomfort (p=0.031), (iii) the distance traveled significantly influenced heart rate variation (p=0.001), and (iv) the lifting technique was correlated with lower back discomfort (p=0.023). These findings underscore the urgent need for targeted interventions to mitigate MSD risks among farmers. Implementing comprehensive awareness and training programs can provide farmers with the necessary knowledge and skills to reduce the physical strain associated with carrying head loads, thus improving their health and overall well-being. Organic farming is gaining recognition as a viable alternative to conventional methods, promising soil health preservation and sustained crop productivity with economic benefits. This study evaluated the physiological, growth, and yield responses of the PSB Rc18 rice variety and appraised its economic feasibility under different production systems. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications and three treatments: T1-best bet organic production system, T2-farmers' organic production system in Leyte, and T3-farmers' conventional production system in Leyte. The crop growth rate (CGR) of PSB Rc18 remained consistent across the different systems. However, the Net Assimilation Rate (NAR) peaked significantly between 42-56 days after transplanting (DAT) in the T2. Additionally, the Leaf Area Index (LAI) in T1 was comparable to that of T3. Rice grown under T1 reached heading and maturation earlier than T3. Although T3 produced the highest fresh straw, most productive tillers, and heaviest total biomass, the grain yield was similar across all production systems. Economically, T2 outperformed with a superior benefit-cost ratio of $0.55 and $0.94 per USD invested, considering both regular and premium prices for organic palay. These findings highlight organic farming practices' economic and agronomic viability, suggesting that promoting organic farming can be a beneficial alternative to conventional methods in Leyte. This study underscores the potential for integrating organic practices to enhance sustainability and economic outcomes in rice production, making both T1 and T2 significant options for farmers in Eastern Visayas. Drought stress, as one of the most common environmental factors, seriously affects seed- ling establishment as well as plant growth and productivity. The growth of Toona ciliata is constrained by soil moisture deficit, and drought stress can reduce its productivity and limit its suitable growing environment. To explore the molecular mechanism of Toona ciliata responding to drought stress, leaves of two-year-old Toona ciliata seedlings were used as experimental materials for transcriptome sequencing and physiological index measurements. Under drought stress, the contents of Chl, MDA, POD, SP, SS, and RWC all change differently. We performed transcriptome sequencing, obtaining 4830 differential genes. The enrichment analysis indicates that the primary effects on the leaves of Toona ciliata under drought stress are related to photosynthesis and responses to plant hormone signal transduction. Transcription factor families associated with drought resistance include the NAC, WRKY, bZIP, bHLH, AP2-EREBP, C3H, GRAS, and FRAI transcription factor families. A weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) analysis successfully identified 10 hub genes in response to drought stress in Toona ciliata leaves. Real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) validated the reliability of the transcriptomic data, and the analysis of its results showed a close correlation with the data obtained from RNA-seq. Maritime studies, encompassing a range of disciplines, increasingly rely on advanced data analytics, particularly in the context of navigation. As technology advances, the statistical averaging of large datasets has become a critical component of these analyses. However, recent studies have highlighted discrepancies between statistical predictions and observable realities, especially in high-stress environments like port approach procedures conducted by marine pilots. This study analyzed physiological responses recorded during simulation exercises involving experienced marine pilots. The focus was not on the specific outcomes of the simulations but on the potential faults arising from conventional statistical signal processing, particularly mean-centered approaches. A large dataset of signals was generated, including one signal with a dominant characteristic intentionally designed to introduce imbalance, mimicking the uneven distribution of real-world data. Initial analysis suggested that the average physiological response of the pilots followed an S-shaped curve, indicative of a psychophysiological reaction to stress. However, further post hoc analysis revealed that this pattern was primarily influenced by a single participant's data. This finding raises concerns about the generalizability of the S-curve as a typical stress response in maritime pilots. The results underscore the limitations of relying solely on conventional statistical methods, such as mean-centered approaches, in interpreting complex datasets. The study calls into question the validity of standardizing data interpretations based on dominant characteristic curves, particularly in environments as intricate as maritime navigation. The research highlights the need for a re-evaluation of these methods to ensure more reliable and nuanced conclusions in maritime studies. The potential of Euglena gracilis for carbon sequestration offers significant opportunities in the capture and utilization of carbon dioxide (CO2 ). In this study, a mutant LE-ZW of E. gracilis, capable of efficient growth and carbon sequestration, was obtained through ultraviolet mutagenesis combined with high carbon acclimation. Subsequently, the potential of LE-ZW for carbon assimilation was systematically analyzed. The results demonstrated that the cell density of the LE-ZW was 1.33 times that of the wild type and its carbon sequestration efficiency was 6.67 times that of the wild type when cultured at an optimal CO2 concentration of 5% until day 10. At this time, most key enzyme genes associated with the photosystem membrane protein complex, photosynthetic electron transport chain, antenna protein, and carbon fixation were up-regulated in mutant LE-ZW. Furthermore, after 10  days of culture under 10% CO2, the cell density and carbon sequestration efficiency of LE-ZW reached 1.10 times and 1.54 times of that under 5% CO2, respectively. Transcriptome analysis revealed significant up-regulation of key enzyme genes associated with carbon fixation, central carbon metabolism, and photosynthesis in LE-ZW under a 10% CO2 concentration. Physiological indices such as the amount of oxygen evolution, the values of Fv/Fm, the expression levels of photosynthetic protein genes and the enzyme activity of key enzymes related to photosynthetic carbon assimilation were corroborated by transcriptome data, elucidating that the mutant LE-ZW exhibited augmented photosynthetic carbon sequestration capacity and metabolic activity, thereby demonstrating robust adaptability to a high-carbon environment. [Objectives] his study aimed to explore the effects of drought stress on morphological changes, photosynthetic characteristics and other physiological indexes of ginger at seedling stage, and to provide reference for the study of drought tolerance mechanism and the selection of drought-tolerant varieties of ginger. [Methods] Five main varietie (‘Shandongdajiang'‘Fengtoujiang'‘Zhugenjiang'‘Luopingxiaohuangjiang'and‘Guizhouxiaohuangjiang') were selected as test materials from the main ginger producing areas of North China, Central China and Southwest China. Drought stress was simulated by 250 g·L-1 PEG-6000 solution, normal water treatment (CK) and drought treatment (DS) was set to determine the growth and physiological indexes such as leaf moisture content, leaf water potential, photosynthesis, stomatal phenotype, chlorophyll content and other growth and physiological indexes of different varieties of ginger under different treatments at 15 days, and the lignin deposition of ginger stems was observed by paraffin sectioning method. [Results] Compared with CK, the leaves of various ginger varieties had different degrees of curly yellowness at 15 days of drought treatment. The free water content (FWC), relative water content (RWC) and total water content (TWC) of leaves decreased significantly, the content of bound water (BWC) of ‘Shandongdajiang' increased, and the BWC content of the remaining four varieties decreased significantly. The water potential of the leaves of various varieties of ginger decreased significantly, and the ‘Fengtoujiang' decreased the most. In addition, the net photosynthetic rate (Pn), stomatal conductance (Gs), intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci), transpiration rate (Tr) of leaves decreased, the length and width of the stomata decreased, and the length and width of guard cells did not change significantly. Among the five varieties, the photosynthetic index of ‘Luopingxiaohuangjiang' was the most affected, and the stomatal conductance and transpiration rate decreased by 100% and 93.84%, respectively. The contents of chlorophyll a (Chla), chlorophyll b (Chlb) and total chlorophyll a+b (Chla+b) decreased but not significantly, while the content of carotenoid (Car) increased in‘Shandongdajiang 'but not significantly, and decreased significantly in the other four varieties. After drought treatment, the amount of stem lignin deposition increased in‘Shandongdajiang 'and‘ Luopingxiaohuangjiang'. [Conclusions] Drought stress affected the growth and development of ginger seedlings, and there were differences in drought tolerance among different ginger varieties. The drought tolerance of the five ginger varieties was ranked from strong to weak as follows: ‘Shandongdajiang'‘Fengtoujiang'‘Guizhouxiaohuangjiang'‘Zhugenjiang'‘Luopingxiaohuangjiang'.‘Shandongdajiang'had strong drought tolerance, which could be used for further analysis of the molecular mechanism of drought resistance and creation of drought resistance breeding high-quality germplasm materials. This study simulated the effects of direct predatory pressure, indirect predatory pressure, and conspecific injury signals on sea cucumber (Apostichopus japonicus) to determine changes in the activity of immune defense enzymes (lysozyme, acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase) and antioxidant stress enzymes (catalase, superoxide dismutase, malondialdehyde). Samples of sea cucumber juveniles were collected at 3 h, 12 h, 72 h, and 96 h post predatory stress, and six enzymes related to immune defense and antioxidant stress were selected for activity assays, namely, lysozyme (LZM), acid phosphatase (ACP), alkaline phosphatase (AKP), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and malondialdehyde (MDA). The results indicate that under direct predatory pressure, the activity of catalase in sea cucumbers was significantly higher than that of the control group at 3 h (P < 0.05), while the activities of acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase, and catalase were significantly lower at 72 h (P < 0.05). Under indirect predatory pressure, the activity of malondialdehyde in sea cucumbers was significantly higher than that of the control group at 12 h (P < 0.05), the activity of alkaline phosphatase was significantly higher at 72 and 96 h (P < 0.05), the activity of catalase was significantly lower at 72 h, and the activity of superoxide dismutase was significantly higher at 72 h (P < 0.05). Under the influence of conspecific injury signals, the activity of malondialdehyde in sea cucumbers was significantly higher than that of the control group at 12 h (P < 0.05), and the activity of superoxide dismutase was significantly higher at 96 h (P < 0.05). The sea cucumber enhanced its antioxidant capacity 3 h after facing a predator, while its immune defense mechanism was suppressed at 72 h. When facing indirect predatory pressure, the sea cucumber may have made immune and antioxidant preparations for the arrival of unknown risks. The experimental results show that predatory pressure has a significant impact on the immune and antioxidant functions of sea cucumbers, which may be related to the physiological state and environmental adaptability of the sea cucumber. This study provides a new perspective for understanding how sea cucumbers cope with predatory pressure in the natural environment and offers theoretical support for the cultivation management of sea cucumbers. Water and nitrogen are widely used agricultural inputs in potato production areas. However, the excessive and inappropriate use of these significant inputs may lead to the rapid depletion of water resources and inappropriate nitrogen leakage. In potato production, insight into the effects of water and nitrogen on the physiological properties will help to overcome these difficulties. This study was therefore conducted to determine the effects of different nitrogen and irrigation levels on the physiological (photosynthesis rate, leaf area index, leaf chlorophyll content, and leaf temperature) characteristics of potato. Field experiments were conducted during the 2021–2022 and 2022–2023 primary potato cropping seasons to select the suitable combination of irrigation and fertilization levels for potato production in the Nigde Province of the Central Anatolia Region of Turkey. Employing a factorial design, the study encompassed six nitrogen fertilization rates and three irrigation levels. Measurements were systematically recorded at five distinct intervals (40, 50, 60, 70, and 80 days) post-emergence. The outcomes underscored that nitrogen treatments augmented physiological traits, manifesting in heightened photosynthetic rates, chlorophyll content, and leaf area indices, barring leaf temperature, in comparison to the control group (devoid of nitrogen treatments). Full irrigation (I1) yielded the utmost values for both photosynthesis and leaf area index, with I1N3 (full irrigation and intermediate nitrogen supply) was identified as the most efficacious treatment for these parameters. This study identifies the most appropriate nitrogen and irrigation application for optimum physiological yield of the potato for crop producers. However, it is important to note that the study focused solely on one commercial potato cultivar (Agria), and further research on various potato cultivars is recommended for more conclusive results. A 210‐day experiment to assess the efficacy of substituting azolla plant powder at levels of 0, 20, 40, and 60% for fish meal on red tilapia fingerlings (RTF, initial weight of 18.23 ± 0.12 g) performance under salinity levels of 5, 18, and 28ppt. Among the various conditions, RTF‐fed 20% azolla at 28 and 5ppt salinity showcased the highest specific growth rate (SGR), whereas the lowest SGR was observed in fish‐fed 60% azolla at 5ppt salinity. Upon azolla incorporation, noteworthy elevations in phytoplankton, zooplankton, dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, NH3, and NO3 were noted and conversely, azolla introduction led to decreased NH4 and NO2 concentrations in all salinity levels. Further, a significant (p < 0.05) interaction between azolla levels and water salinity (S×A) significantly impacted the hematological parameters of RTF. The highest levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and total protein (TP) were found in RTF‐fed 20% azolla at 28ppt salinity, while the lowest CAT and TP levels occurred in RTF‐fed 60% azolla at 5ppt salinity. The highest aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels were recorded in the RTF group fed 60% azolla at 5ppt salinity, with the lowest values seen in the group given 20% azolla at 28ppt salinity. RTF fed a 20% azolla diet at 18ppt salinity exhibited the highest lysozyme value, in contrast to the lowest value observed in the RTF group fed the control diet at 18ppt salinity. In conclusion, this study recommends the utilization of azolla at inclusion levels ranging from 20 to 40%, as it has the potential to notably enhance the immune system and elevate the survival rate of RTF. Plant biological and physiological ecological characteristics are changed by cultivation and domestication, but little is known about the responses of medicinal plant to heavy metal pollution. The effects of Cd addition on biological characters, Cd accumulation and physiological response of Erigeron breviscapus were studied. In this study, pot culture was conducted with four Cd concentration gradients of 0, 2.5, 5, 15 mg·kg-1, meanwhile, the tolerances of two types of Erigeron breviscapus to cadmium were evaluated by membership function method. Results showed that the increase of soil Cd concentration increased significantly the Cd content of Erigeron breviscapus but tended to decrease plant height and SPAD value. However, the leaf length and width, soluble protein and MDA of Erigeron breviscapus varied slightly with increasing of Cd concentration in soil. At higher Cd concentration (15 mg·kg-1), the biomass of two types of Erigeron breviscapus was significantly higher than that without Cd addition treatment, while SPAD value of wild type was significantly higher than cultivated type. There were no significant differences in activities of SOD, POD, CAT and contents of GSH, NPT, PCS between the two types of Erigeron breviscapus at the same concentration of Cd. The Cd tolerance index, average enrichment coefficient and transfer coefficient of both two types Erigeron breviscapus was greater than 1, 0.5 and 0.5, respectively, but those index and coefficient were not significantly different between two types. Cultivated and wild type of Erigeron breviscapus had strong Cd enrichment ability and Cd tolerance, the cultivated Erigeron breviscapus belonged to medium Cd tolerance type, while wild type belonged to high Cd tolerance type. Denphal-type Dendrobium is the famous cut and potted flower in the world, and most cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions. However, it often suffers from cold in winter in subtropical regions. To verify the physiological response of Denphal-type Dendrobium under low temperature in this study, the mature and young plantlets of Dendrobium Udomsri Beauty were treated under 15, 10, and 5 °C, respectively. And then the electrical conductivity (EC), soluble protein, soluble sugar, free proline, malondialdehyde (MDA), chlorophyll content, and the rate of defoliation after regrowth were measured. The results showed that both mature plant and young seedlings of Dendrobium Udomsri Beauty, the EC, soluble protein, soluble sugar, free proline, MDA content, and defoliation rate were increased with the decrease of treatment temperature and the extension of treatment times. The content of chlorophyll decreased gradually with the decrease of treatment temperature and the extension of treatment times. The correlation analysis showed that soluble sugar, free proline, MDA, chlorophyll content, and defoliation rate were significantly correlated with the semi-lethal temperature. It is indicated that the content of free proline, MDA, chlorophyll, and defoliation rate could be used as the effective indexes for the comprehensive assessment of cold tolerance of Dendrobium Udomsri Beauty. Cadmium (Cd) pollution has emerged as a critical global environmental concern, due to its significant toxicity, environmental persistence, and the pervasiveness of contamination. Significantly, the bioaccumulation of Cd in agricultural crops constitutes a primary vector for its entry into the human diet. This issue warrants urgent attention from both the scientific community and policymakers to develop and implement effective mitigation strategies. This review delves into the physiological impacts of Cd stress on plants, including the suppression of photosynthetic activity, amplification of oxidative stress, and disruptions in mineral nutrient homeostasis. Additionally, the resistance mechanisms deployed by plants in response to Cd stress have been explored, and the prospective contributions of molecular breeding strategies in augmenting crop tolerance to Cd and minimizing its bioaccumulation have been assessed. By integrating and analyzing these findings, we seek to inform future research trajectories and proffer strategic approaches to enhance agricultural sustainability, safeguard human health, and protect environmental integrity. Background and Study Aim Monitoring physiological responses during training is crucial for understanding how athletes adapt to various exercise intensities. However, the specific effects of combining Small-Sided Game (SSG) and Speed-Endurance Training (SET) on these parameters require the search for more effective solutions. This study aims to determine the effect of combined SSG and SET on heart rate (HR) and rate of perceived exertion (RPE). Material and Methods This quantitative research employed an experimental method with a weekly pretest-posttest design. The study population consisted of eighty-two members of the Unesa Soccer Student Activity Unit. A sample of eighteen individuals was selected through simple random sampling. The sample had the following characteristics: age 20±0.69 years, weight 65±9.54 kg, height 165.22±4.31 cm, and BMI 22.82±1.92. Data were collected using the Polar H-10 device, and RPE interviews were conducted ten minutes after each training session. Data analysis was performed using paired sample t-tests and Wilcoxon tests. Results The results showed a significant difference in HR for pair 1 (p = 0.037), but no significant differences for pair 2 (p = 0.058) or pair 3 (p = 0.076). However, the results for RPE indicated significant differences in pair 1 (p = 0.001), pair 2 (p = 0.004), and pair 3 (p = 0.002). The combination of SSG and SET led to an increase in HR during the first and second weeks. In the third week, HR decreased. RPE increased from the first to the second week. It then stabilized in the third and fourth weeks, indicating a consistent level of effort. The decrease in HR during the third week, despite the same effort level, suggests that the athletes successfully adapted to the training program. Conclusions The combination of SSG and SET demonstrates potential as an effective training method for improving both physiological performance and adaptation in athletes. These findings offer valuable insights into how athletes respond to structured training programs, providing a foundation for future research and practical applications in sports training. Genetic transformation of forest trees is essential for validating gene functions and breeding new varieties through molecular means. Appropriate selective pressure is critical for creating an effective screening system. 'Beilinxiongzhu 1' sensitivity testing showed that the critical tolerance concentrations for hygromycin (Hyg), kanamycin (Kan), and glyphosate (PPT) in leaf explants were 2.0 mg/L, 20 mg/L, and 1.0 mg/L, respectively. Among the physiological indicators, soluble sugar content, soluble protein content, and endogenous hormone levels were identified as key markers of the effects of the different antibiotic treatments. Transcriptome analysis showed that Hyg treatment resulted in a large number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) involved in leaf cell wall synthesis and glucose metabolism. Under Kan treatment, the DEGs were associated with pathways such as ribosome biosynthesis and histone packaging in eukaryotes. Under PPT treatment, significant DEGs were related to ABC transporters. DEGs common to all three antibiotics were involved in glutathione metabolism pathways. A weighted gene co-expression network analysis identified TRXH2, H3.2, H2B, GST, U71K1, and CHS as key genes in response to antibiotic stress. By elucidating the physiological and molecular mechanisms by which different antibiotics affect leaf sprouting, our study serves as a reference for research into the genetic transformation of poplar leaves. The design of vehicle cabin seats is crucial in transportation, as it directly affects the safety and comfort of both drivers and passengers. To design seat parameters that enhance sitting comfort, a quantitative evaluation of sitting comfort involving an understanding of users' physiological responses is necessary. This study aimed to assess users' physiological responses to relaxation induced by changes in seat parameters using electroencephalography and electrocardiography. We examined the physiological responses and subjective evaluations of relaxation in fifteen participants, focusing on the effects of reclining, ottoman, and slab. The results demonstrated an improvement in the subjective level of relaxation with changes in all seat parameters set here. However, central nervous system responses and autonomic nervous system reactions varied based on alterations in posture angles and seat pressure distributions. This underscores the importance of physiological markers, encompassing indicators of autonomic and central nervous system responses, in evaluating relaxation in relation to changes in posture angles and seat pressure distribution. BackgroundDrought stress severely affects global crop yields, reduces water availability, and hinders growth. Strigolactones can alleviate damage caused by various abiotic stresses in plants; however, limited research has been conducted on their ability to enhance drought tolerance in tobacco.MethodsThis study evaluated the drought tolerance of ‘Qin Tobacco 96’ (drought-tolerant) and ‘Yun Tobacco 116’ (moisture-sensitive) before and after the application of gibberellic acid lactone at a concentration of 0.2 mg·L⁻¹ under three drought conditions: mild, moderate, and severe. The primary drought tolerance traits were identified from 29 related indicators, including agronomic traits, photosynthetic efficiency, reactive oxygen metabolism, antioxidant enzyme activities, osmotic regulators, and hormone regulation, using affiliation function, principal component analysis, and cluster analysis to categorize the traits. The degree of drought tolerance enhancement in the two tobacco varieties was evaluated under various treatments.ResultsSpraying exogenous strigolactones reduced the adverse effects of drought stress, particularly in the moisture-sensitive Y116 variety. Under drought stress, chlorophyll content and photosynthetic parameters significantly decreased, whereas strigolactone treatment increased both chlorophyll content and photosynthetic efficiency. Strigolactones reduced the accumulation of reactive oxygen species and malondialdehyde content, enhancing the antioxidant capacity of both varieties. Additionally, strigolactones increased the levels of osmoregulatory substances and activated the production of antioxidant enzymes, thereby enhancing drought tolerance. Furthermore, drought stress disrupted the balance of endogenous hormones, decreasing levels of auxin, gibberellic acid, and ribosylzeatin, while increasing abscisic acid levels. Exogenous strigolactones restored this hormonal balance.ConclusionSixteen traits associated with drought tolerance in tobacco were analyzed using principal component analysis, the traits were classified using cluster analysis, and the magnitude of the D-value was determined by calculating the values of the affiliation function and their respective weights. The results indicated that a concentration of 0.2 mg·L⁻¹ of strigolactones enhanced the drought tolerance of tobacco across different levels of drought stress and promoted the growth and development of flue-cured tobacco. However, the interactions between strigolactones and various hormones under drought stress require further investigation to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms. The application methods of strigolactones should be optimized.
