Abstract Background Whether the monocyte to high-density lipoprotein ratio (MHR) is associated with the prognosis of coronary artery disease (CAD) is inconclusive. Methods Patients with CAD were enrolled and their data were collected. Blood was sampled within 24 h after admission. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was performed to determine the relationship between the MHR and all-cause mortality as well as complications during hospitalization. Results We included 5371 patients in our cohort study. Among them, 114 (2.12%) patients died in hospital. MHR was independently associated with all-cause mortality (hazard ratio [HR], 1.81; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.35, 2.42), cardiovascular mortality (1.69; 1.17, 2.45) and non-cardiovascular mortality (2.04; 1.27, 3.28). This association was only observed in patients with hypertension (P for interaction = 0.003). Patients with higher MHR levels also have a higher risk of complications, including infection, pneumonia, electrolyte disturbance, gastrointestinal bleeding, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, and disturbance of consciousness. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis showed that the MHR had higher prognostic values than monocytes and high-density lipoprotein. Conclusion MHR was an independent predictor of all-cause mortality and in-hospital complications in patients with CAD, especially in patients with hypertension.

Abstract Background There is limited evidence to support the use of vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT) on improving balance and gait in patients after stroke. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effects of VRT in addition to usual rehabilitation compared with usual rehabilitation on improving balance and gait for patients after stroke. Methods This review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analysis statement guidelines. Ten electronic databases were searched up to 1 June 2023 without restrictions in language and publication status. The PEDro scale and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment Development, and Evaluation were used to evaluate the risk of bias and the certainty of evidence. The meta-analysis was conducted with Review Manager 5.3. Results Fifteen randomised controlled trials with 769 participants were included. Mushroom cap is a key trait in the growth process and its phenotypic parameters are essential for automatic cultivation and smart breeding. However, the edible mushrooms are usually grown densely with mutual occlusion, which is difficult to obtain the phenotypic parameters non-destructively. Although deep learning methods achieve impressive performance with superior generalization capabilities, they require a large amount of ground truth label of the occluded target, which is a challenging task due to the substantial workload. To overcome this obstacle, a novel synthetic cap occlusion image method was proposed for rapidly generating edible mushroom occlusion datasets using raw images, in which the ground truth is obtained from the real world and the occlusion is randomly generated for simulating real scenes. Moreover, variants of amodal instance segmentation models with different backbone were trained and evaluated on our synthetic occlusion image datasets. Finally, an amodal mask-based size estimation method was presented to calculate the width and length of the cap. The experimental results showed that the amodal instance segmentation achieved an AP@[0.5:0.95] of 82%, 93% and 96% on Oudemansiella raphanipes, Agrocybe cylindraceas and Pholiota nameko synthetic cap datasets, respectively, with a size of 1024 × 1024 px, which indicates that our occlusion image synthesis method can effectively simulate the real cap occlusion situation. The size estimation method achieved an R2 of 0.95 and 0.98 between predictive amodal caps and manually labeled caps for the length and width of Agrocybe cylindraceas cap, respectively, which can be applied to obtain the phenotypic parameters of each cap effectively and accurately. These methods not only meet the demand for automatic monitoring of edible mushroom morphology in factories but also provide technical support for intelligent breeding.

BackgroundThe COVID-19 pandemic has inevitably affected the distribution of medical resources, and epidemic lockdowns have had a significant impact on the nursing and treatment of patients with other acute diseases, including intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). ObjectiveThis study aimed to investigate how the COVID-19 pandemic affected the manifestations and outcomes of patients with ICH. MethodsPatients with acute ICH before (December 1, 2018-November 30, 2019) and during (December 1, 2019-November 30, 2020) the COVID-19 pandemic at 31 centers in China from the Chinese Cerebral Hemorrhage: Mechanism and Intervention (CHEERY) study were entered into the analysis. IntroductionElectroacupuncture (EA) is a beneficial physiotherapy approach for addressing neuropsychiatric disorders. Nevertheless, the impact of EA on the gut microbiome in relation to anxiety disorders remains poorly understood.MethodsTo address this gap, we conducted a study using a chronic restraint stress (CRS) mouse model to investigate the anti-anxiety outcome of EA and its influence on gut microbiota. Our research involved behavioral tests and comprehensive sequencing of full-length 16S rRNA microbiomes.ResultsOur findings revealed that CRS led to significant anxiety-like behaviors and an imbalance in the gut microbiota. Specifically, we identified 13 species that exhibited changes associated with anxiety-like behaviors. Furthermore, EA partially alleviated both behaviors related to anxiety and the dysbiosis induced by CRS.DiscussionIn summary, this study sheds light on the alterations in gut microbiota species resulting from CRS treatment and brings new light into the connection between EA’s anti-anxiety effects and the gut microbiota.

A validated method based on Haidinger fringes has been proposed to measure the optical constants for thin-walled glass cells. The method can significantly enhance measurement accuracy by utilizing the reflected spectrum to determine the optical constants of the sample. The reflected light off the inner and the outer surfaces of the cell combined together and formed the interferential pattern (Haidinger fringes) detected by the photodiodes. Taking into account that the sample in our experiment is a sealed cell, we deliberately set the incident angle to a non-zero value. First, the measurement principle has been analyzed, and subsequently, the relevant experimental platform has been established. To reduce random errors, we recalibrated the relationship between the frequency of the laser and the operating temperature. Furthermore, the incident angle has been accurately estimated using the method of non-linear least squares. Finally, the weighted average, considering correlated uncertainties for all measurements, is 1.873 ± 0.005 016 mm, which showcases clear advantages over conventional mechanical methods that risk potential damages. Objective: To investigate the effect of dietary acrylamide exposure on the progression of type 2 diabetes in GK rats. Methods: The effects of intragastric administration of acrylamide (2 mg/(kg mb·d)) for eight weeks on blood glucose metabolism indicators in GK rats including fasting blood glucose, fasting glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity were evaluated. Meanwhile, the levels of serum biochemical indexes, oxidative stress and inflammatory factors were determined, and pathological changes of the liver, kidney, pancreas and gastrocnemius muscle were observed by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining to examine the effect of acrylamide exposure on organ functions of GK rats. In addition, serum and urine metabolites were detected by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), the major differential metabolites between the acrylamide exposure and control (deionized water) groups were identified and related metabolic pathways were analyzed. Results: Compared with the control group, dietary acrylamide exposure further damaged the pancreas of GK rats, promoted oxidative stress and inflammatory factors, and affected islet β-cell function and the pentose phosphate metabolic pathway, aggravating blood glucose metabolism disorder, as manifested by a significant increase in fasting blood glucose levels (P < 0.05), impaired fasting glucose tolerance and decreased insulin sensitivity. In addition, the differential metabolites identified included L-tyrosine, inositol, hippuric acid, citraconic acid, phenylacetylglycine, N-acetylleucine, quinolinic acid, L-tryptophan and 5-hydroxymethyltryptamine, which were associated with the metabolic pathways of amino acids such as arginine, proline, tryptophan, phosphoinositide, phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan. These metabolites and metabolic pathways are thought to be associated with abnormal liver and neural tissue functions. Serum biochemical and pathological analysis confirmed that dietary acrylamide exposure could cause different degrees of damage to the liver, gastrocnemius muscle and nerve tissue of GK rats. Conclusion: Dietary acrylamide exposure has serious adverse effects on the health of diabetic GK rats, aggravating blood glucose metabolism disorder and affecting the function of organs and tissues.

Abstract Background Recent advances in telecommunications technology have raised the possibility of telehealth intervention delivering cardiac telerehabilitation, which may provide the efficacy of health services in patients after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). This study aimed to investigate the effects of home-based cardiac telerehabilitation (HBCTR) in patients undergoing PCI. Methods We performed a comprehensive search of the following electronic databases: PubMed, Cochrane Central, Web of Science, Embase, CNKI, and WANFANG. For the prespecified outcomes, the primary outcomes were results of physical function (the six-minute walking test, 6MWT) and quality of life (QoL) of the participants. The secondary outcomes were results of (1) blood pressure; (2) full lipid profile (3) reliable assessment of anxiety and depression in patients. Results All studies were conducted between 2013 and 2022, and a total of 5 articles could be included in the quantitative meta-analysis. The results showed that there was a statistically significant difference between the HBCTR intervention group and the control group in 6WMT (MD 16.59, 95%CI 7.13 to 26.06, P = 0.0006), but there was no difference in QoL (SMD − 0.25, 95%CI − 1.63 to 1.13, P = 0.73). According to the fixed effects model, there was a statistically significant difference between the HBCTR group versus the control group (MD − 2.88, 95%CI − 5.19 to − 0.57, P = 0.01), but not in diastolic blood pressure. Likewise, significant improvements of triglycerides and in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol were observed in HBTCR groups, but no significant differences were observed regarding total cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Conclusion This systematic review and meta-analysis have proven that the HBCTR is one of the promisingly effective cardiac rehabilitation strategies that improve cardiorespiratory fitness and reduce cardiovascular disease risk factors. Abstract Recently, the major challenge in treating osteosarcoma patients is the metastatic disease, most commonly in the lungs. However, the underlying mechanism of recurrence and metastasis of osteosarcoma after surgical resection of primary tumor remains unclear. This study aims to investigate whether the pulmonary metastases characteristic of osteosarcoma is associated with surgical treatment and whether surgery contributes to the formation of pre‐metastatic niche in the distant lung tissue. In the current study, the authors observe the presence of circulating tumor cells in patients undergoing surgical resection of osteosarcoma which is correlated to tumor recurrence. The pulmonary infiltrations of neutrophils and Gr‐1+ myeloid cells are characterized to form a pre‐metastatic niche upon the exposure of circulating tumor cells after surgical resection. It is found that mitochondrial damage‐associated molecular patterns released from surgical resection contribute to the formation of pre‐metastatic niche in lung through IL‐1β secretion. This study reveals that surgical management for osteosarcoma, irrespective of the primary tumor, might promote the formation of postoperative pre‐metastatic niche in lung which is with important implications for developing rational therapies during peri‐operative period.
