54. Sorghum Densification with Changes in Plant Spacing Arrangement: Productivity and Qualitative Characteristics of Silage Material.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the agronomic performance of sorghum grown in different combinations of row spacing and plant density, as well as possible interferences on silage quality. No other study dedicated to identifying the interference of plant spatial arrangement on the cultivation of silage material has been developed in the productive context of the Amazon Biome, making it necessary to understand the behavior of the studied factors. The treatments were arranged in a split-plot scheme: the plots corresponded to three row spacings (0.45 m, 0.60 m, and 0.75 m) and subplots at four densities (105,000, 120,000, 135,000, and 150,000 plants ha−1). The agronomic and productivity characteristics of sorghum and the fermentative and bromatological characteristics of forage and silage were evaluated. The sorghum plants showed an increase in plant height and green and dry mass yield when using higher densities (p < 0.05). For the culm diameter variable, an isolated effect of the factors was observed, with reduced diameter when grown closer to inter-row spacing or using higher plant densities. No effect of the factors was found (p > 0.05) for morphological plant components. In silage, wider spacing promoted higher dry matter content. Regarding crude protein in the silage, higher percentages were obtained at closer spacing and higher plant density. The sorghum growing in dense conditions is indicated, given the positive performance in productivity and bromatological composition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to review the use of the magnetic targeting technique, characterized by magnetic driving compounds based on superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs), as drug delivery for a specific brain locus in gliomas. We reviewed a process mediated by the application of an external static magnetic field for targeting SPIONs in gliomas. A search of PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, and Web of Science databases identified 228 studies, 23 of which were selected based on inclusion criteria and predetermined exclusion criteria. The articles were analyzed by physicochemical characteristics of SPIONs used, cell types used for tumor induction, characteristics of experimental glioma models, magnetic targeting technical parameters, and analysis method of process efficiency. The study shows the highlights and importance of magnetic targeting to optimize the magnetic targeting process as a therapeutic strategy for gliomas. Regardless of the intensity of the patterned magnetic field, the time of application of the field, and nanoparticle used (commercial or synthesized), all studies showed a vast advantage in the use of magnetic targeting, either alone or in combination with other techniques, for optimized glioma therapy. Therefore, this review elucidates the preclinical and therapeutic applications of magnetic targeting in glioma, an innovative nanobiotechnological method.

Abstract

The school education can and should include the themes of sexuality and diversity, through practices based on building a more aware and just society. The theme “Sexuality and Disability” was requested as a training demand from a basic education network and generated a 3-hour online workshop. The meeting was structured in such a way as to contemplate a formative experience based on theoretical reflection and a practical approach (data collection) regarding the participants' perceptions about the sexuality of students with disabilities. For the characterization of the lived formative experience, we organized this essay initially with considerations about the possibilities of deconstructing myths based on Nietzsche's philosophy and then we bring a critical perception about sexuality and people with disabilities, based on Foucalt and Butler. The methodological design and data collection have a quantitative and qualitative approach and the analysis is based on Bardin's principles. Two categories were generated, which were problematized in the results and discussion. We conclude that it is necessary to include the issue of sexuality of people with disabilities in teacher training in order to support the debate on the subject, dispelling myths that characterize the disability of these people.

Abstract

Insoluble particles in ice cores record signatures of past climate parameters like vegetation dynamics, volcanic activity, and aridity. For some of them, the analytical detection relies on intensive bench microscopy investigation and requires dedicated sample preparation steps. Both are laborious, require in-depth knowledge, and often restrict sampling strategies. To help overcome these limitations, we present a framework based on flow imaging microscopy coupled to a deep neural network for autonomous image classification of ice core particles. We train the network to classify seven commonly found classes, namely mineral dust, felsic and mafic (basaltic) volcanic ash grains (tephra), three species of pollen (Corylus avellana, Quercus robur, Quercus suber), and contamination particles that may be introduced onto the ice core surface during core handling operations. The trained network achieves 96.8ĝ€ ̄% classification accuracy at test time. We present the system's potential and its limitations with respect to the detection of mineral dust, pollen grains, and tephra shards, using both controlled materials and real ice core samples. The methodology requires little sample material, is non-destructive, fully reproducible, and does not require any sample preparation procedures. The presented framework can bolster research in the field by cutting down processing time, supporting human-operated microscopy, and further unlocking the paleoclimate potential of ice core records by providing the opportunity to identify an array of ice core particles. Suggestions for an improved system to be deployed within a continuous flow analysis workflow are also presented.

Abstract

Adaptation to climate change, understood as the moderation of sensitivities and the strengthening of adaptive capacities modifies the conditions and, consequently, the impacts of climate change on vulnerable populations. On the other hand, adaptive capacity depends on public policies tailored to different groups’ social, economic, and environmental realities. This article discusses specific vulnerabilities, adaptive measures and opportunities identified through semi structured interviews and participatory workshops in three groups with different socio-environmental profiles: the Fundo de Pasto (FP) traditional communities in Northern Bahia, the Tuxá indigenous community in Rodelas/ BA and the irrigated perimeters of the Juazeiro/BA-Petrolina/PE pole. These case studies confirm that adaptation is strongly conditioned by the physical characteristics of the region where the population is located (such as rainfall levels and proximity to perennial water bodies, which condition “risks”); but that it also depends on a wide range of social, economic, cultural, and political factors., A adaptação às mudanças climáticas, entendida como moderação das sensibilidades e fortalecimento das capacidades adaptativas, modifica as condições e consequentemente os impactos do clima nas populações vulneráveis. Por outro lado, a capacidade adaptativa depende de políticas públicas adequadas à realidade social, econômica e ambiental. Nesse contexto, o presente artigo discute vulnerabilidades específicas, medidas adaptativas e oportunidades identificadas por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas e oficinas participativas em três grupos de diferentes perfis socioambientais: as comunidades tradicionais de Fundo de Pasto (FP) no norte da Bahia, a comunidade indígena Tuxá em Rodelas/BA e os perímetros irrigados do polo Juazeiro/BA-Petrolina/PE. Os estudos de caso confirmam que a adaptação está fortemente condicionada às características físicas do local em que a população se encontra (como o regime de chuvas e proximidade de corpos hídricos perenes, fatores que condicionam o “risco”); mas que também depende de uma ampla gama de fatores sociais, econômicos, culturais e políticos.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate and compare sports motivation of students between nighttime and daytime education. A total of 222 high school students of both sexes from two public schools in the city of Guarapuava-PR participated in this research. The Sport Motivation Scale (SMS) questionnaire was used to verify sports motivation. After the collect, the data were tabulated and subjected to inferential statistical analysis as well as theoretical analysis through discussion with the specialized literature. The results showed that students who study at night have more satisfactory motivational levels when compared to students of daytime education, indicating, therefore, that nighttime study does not negatively interfere with sports practice. Este estudo teve como objetivo investigar e comparar a motivação esportiva entre escolares do ensino diurno e noturno. Participaram da pesquisa 222 escolares, de ambos os sexos, do ensino médio de duas escolas públicas da cidade de Guarapuava-PR. Para a verificação da motivação esportiva, foi utilizado o questionário Sport Motivation Scale (SMS). Após a coleta, os dados foram tabulados e submetidos a análises estatísticas inferenciais, bem como a análise teórica por meio da discussão com a literatura especializada. Posteriormente as análises, os resultados demonstraram que escolares do ensino noturno apresentam níveis motivacionais mais satisfatórios quando comparados com discentes do ensino diurno, indicando, portanto, que o estudo noturno não interfere negativamente na prática esportiva.
