International audience; Collisions of a very heavy nonfusing nuclear system 197Au + 197Au were studied at an energy of 15MeV/ nucleon. An interesting process of violent reseparation of this heavy system into three or four fragments of comparable size was observed. In the case of ternary partitioning, either the projectile-like fragment (PLF) or target-like fragment (TLF) breaks up almost collinearly with the PLF-TLF separation axis. In the case of quaternary reactions, both PLF and TLF were observed breaking up along this direction. By comparison with a dynamical model of deep inelastic collisions it was concluded that the ternary and quaternary reactions occur in semiperipheral collisions, in a range of angular momenta corresponding to about 0.5–0.7 of the maximum L value for grazing collisions. The time elapsing from the scission of the binary PLF + TLF system to the secondary scission of PLF or TLF was estimated to be of about 70–80 fm/c for the ternary reactions and 80–100 fm/c for the quaternary reactions.

A quantitative comparison is made between the absolute cross sections associated with statistical and dynamical emission of heavy fragments in the 124Sn+64Ni and 112Sn+58Ni collisions experimentally investigated at 35A MeV beam energy using the multidetector CHIMERA. The result shows that the dynamical process is about twice as probable in the neutron-rich 124Sn+64Ni system as in the 112Sn+58Ni neutron-poor one. This unexpected and significant difference indicates that the reaction mechanism is strongly dependent on the entrance-channel isospin (N/Z) content.

- Abstract
A new measurement of subthreshold K∗(892)0 and K0 production is presented. The experimental data complete the measurement of strange particles produced in Al + Al collisions at 1.9AGeV measured with the FOPI detector at SIS at GSI (Darmstadt). The K∗(892)0/K0 yield ratio is found to be 0.0315 ± 0.006(stat.) ± 0.012(syst.) and is in good agreement with the transport model prediction. These measurements provide information on the in-medium cross section of K+-π− fusion, which is the dominant process in subthreshold K∗(892)0 production.

International audience; This paper presents the physical analysis results for the following reactions: 124Sn + 64Ni, 124Sn + 27Al, 124Sn + 58Ni at 35 MeV/A and 25 MeV/A. The main goal of this studies was to find observables sensitive to isospin effects and to present the similarities/differences between the systems characterised by various charge asymmetry factor, defined as I = (N-Z)/A. Theoretical simulations based on the Quantum Molecular Dynamics (QMD) model have been performed in order to compare them with the results of the analysis of experimental data. The first phase of the reaction was carried out with the code CHIMERA [1]. The sequential decay of hot fragments was simulated by the code COOLER [2]. The conclusions are as follows: there are observables sensitive to the isospin of the system, such as the Light Charged Particles (LCP) emission and their sensitivity is demonstrated more prominently in the analysis of central collisions at 35 MeV/A. The theoretical calculations do not reproduce these relations well.

The K0 meson production by pi- mesons of 1.15 GeV/c momentum on C, Al, Cu, Sn and Pb nuclear targets was measured with the FOPI spectrometer at the SIS accelerator of GSI. Inclusive production cross-sections and the momentum distributions of K0 mesons are compared to scaled elementary production cross-sections and to predictions of theoretical models describing the in-medium production of kaons. The data represent a new reference for those models, which are widely used for interpretation of the strangeness-production in heavy-ion collisions. The presented results demonstrate the sensitivity of the kaon production to the reaction amplitudes inside nuclei and point to the existence of a repulsive KN-potential of 20+-5 MeV at normal nuclear matter density., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures. Signatures of isospin effects were investigated for neutron-rich (124Sn+64Ni) and neutron-poor (112Sn+58Ni) systems at 35 MeV/nucleon for noncentral collisions. The centrality dependence of these signatures was tested for several impact parameter estimators. Our main observations are (i) the yields of 1H and 3He particles in the neutron-poor system are strongly enhanced with respect to the neutron-rich system, and the yields of 3H, 6He, and 7,8Li are suppressed at all impact parameters, (ii) the yields of 2H, 4He, and 6Li particles are almost the same for both systems, (iii) the N/Z ratio of intermediate mass fragments is correlated with the neutron richness of the system and is weakly dependent on the centrality of the collision, and (iv) the neutron richness of the detected fragments increases strongly with decreasing rapidity in the range from that of the projectile-like fragment to the c.m. region. The gross features of experimental data are reproduced by quantum molecular dynamics model calculations. A comparison between model calculations and the data indicates that the fragments produced in the c.m. regions are weakly excited.

Using the large acceptance apparatus FOPI, we study pion emission in the reactions (energies in GeV/nucleon are given in parentheses): 40Ca+40Ca (0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, 1.5, 1.93), 96Ru+96Ru (0.4, 1.0, 1.5), 96Zr+96Zr (0.4, 1.0, 1.5), 197Au+197Au (0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.5). The observables include longitudinal and transverse rapidity distributions and stopping, polar anisotropies, pion multiplicities, transverse momentum spectra, ratios for positively and negatively charged pions of average transverse momenta and of yields, directed flow, elliptic flow. First measurement of subthreshold Sigma(1385) production is presented. Experimental data are presented for Al+Al reactions at 1.9A GeV measured with the FOPI detector at SIS/GSI. The results allow for a better understanding of subthreshold strangeness production and strangeness exchange reaction which is the dominant process for K- production below and close-to threshold.

First deep sub-threshold production of the Sigma(1385) hyperon resonance is presented. The measurement was performed in Al+Al collisions at a beam energy of 1.9A GeV with the FOPI detector at GSI-Darmstadt. The result is found to be in relatively good agreement with the statistical model prediction. It allows to better understand strangeness sub-threshold production by leading information on the strangeness exchange reaction which is the dominant process for K- production below and close-to threshold.

- Abstract
New results concerning the production of neutral strange particles, K0 and Λ in Ni+Ni collisions at 1.93 AGeV, measured with the FOPI detector at GSI Darmstadt, are presented. Rapidity density distributions and Boltzmann slope parameter distributions are measured in nearly the full phase space of the reaction. The observables are compared to existing K+ and proton data. While the K0 data agree with previously reported K+ measurements, the Λ distributions show a different behavior relative to that of protons. The strangeness balance and the production yield per participating nucleon as a function of the centrality of the reaction are discussed, for the first time at SIS energies.

International audience; $^{197}$Au+$^{197}$Au collisions at 15 MeV/nucleon were studied using the multidetector array CHIMERA and heavy ion beams from the superconducting cyclotron of LNS Catania. The experiment was aimed at studying the mechanism of energy dissipation in collisions of very heavy systems. In the present contribution we report on a part of our study concentrated on a subject of basically binary damped collisions, in which only two main fragments are formed prior to secondary deexcitation processes. Such ``binary'' events were selected by using complete information from the exclusive-type data (including all Z$\geq$ 3 fragments) obtained with the CHIMERA multidetector. Results are compared with predictions of a classical dynamical model of Błocki et al., in which both scenarios of energy dissipation, one-body or two-body dissipation mechanisms, are assumed.

Using the 4π CHIMERA detector system we have observed a dynamical, non-equilibrated fission of projectile-like fragments as well as an equilibrated fission component in collisions 124Sn + 64Ni and 112Sn + 58Ni at 35A MeV. The velocity and angular distributions of projectile-like fission fragments were analyzed. The contribution of the "dynamical fission" component is larger in the neutron rich 124Sn + 64Ni system than in the neutron poor 112Sn + 58Ni one.
