The master thesis focuses on similarities and disparities in the politics of memory related to the 'forgotten' Romani Holocaust in Slovakia and Hungary after 1989. It scrutinizes based on particular topic areas to what extent is the Romani Holocaust marginalized, excluded or integrated into the historical narratives of nation-states and whether it can be classified as a competitive or multidirectional form of memory. The reference point for the comparative discursive analysis represents the Jewish Holocaust. By employing the discourse-historical approach, the thesis attempts to identify various current or long-term strategies of instrumentalizing the Romani Holocaust in specific politics of memory. Moreover, it endeavours to find out which role can the Romani Holocaust play in forming the national identity in these states or its potential endangering.

The thesis deals with Vladimir Medem, one of the leading theorists of the national question in the Jewish Bund, and his concept of national- cultural autonomy. The first part of the thesis focuses on answering the question of why it was necessary to create a specifically Bundist concept of national-cultural autonomy. Therefore, in addition to the important milestones in the development of the Bund's national program - from the proto-Bundist circles in Vilna in the 1890s to its split in 1917 - the context of the emergence of this concept is also provided. Naturally, the debates on the national question did not take place in isolation from the great debates of that time, and therefore the Bundist program was a synthesis of the discussions of Marxism, socialism, and the national (Jewish) question during that period. The second part of the thesis focuses on Medem's texts and his conception of national-cultural autonomy. This concept was meant to solve the problem that the Jewish minority faced as a nation "without territory". As this concept was developed in dialogue with Austro-Marxism and the Bolsheviks, my thesis concludes with an attempt to compare the national policies of all three currents.

This thesis concerns analysis of climate and ecological crisis by realism in international relations. Firstly, realism is defined in contrast with neoliberalism. Next chapter describes Latour's and Moore's analyses of the causes of these crises, which identify the dichotomy between humans and non-human nature, the concept of nature as a passive object, accumulation of capital, and extractivist relationship with non-human nature. It is shown that attempts to synthesize realism and ecological thought cannot take these causes into consideration; therefore, these attempts are considered flawed. Thus, the degrowth movement is introduced as an alternative reaction to these crises, which overcomes their causes, but which does not present a comprehensive vision of global transformation. The last chapter offers a neo-gramscian analysis of international transition to degrowth. Key words international relations theory, ecorealism, New Climatic Regime, Capitalocene, degrowth

Both the theoretical outlines of a solution to the climate and ecological crisis, as well as concrete efforts at environmental reform and energy transformation, often run into the ambivalent role of organised labour, particularly trade unions, in todays growth-oriented, fossil-fuel based economy. On the one hand, trade unions often already formally endorse the ideal of sustainability, on the other hand, in concrete environmental conflicts, they often the side with "jobs" against climate and environmental protections, and thus serve as a support of the growth-oriented fossil economy. The concept of a just transition, embodying the attempts at creating a framework in which the interests of workers and climate protection can be reconciled, thus also becomes ambivalent, serving often as a basis for arguments against more ambitious decarbonization. The aim of this thesis, drawing on the theoretical framework of critical political ecology, is to explore the possibilities of solving this dilemma in the case of Czech trade unions. On the basis of interviews with their various representatives, it will try to answer the questions: 1) what political strategy is shaping the policies of Czech trade unions in the sphere of climate and energy policy, 2) how do these trade unions see their role in the proces of a...

The goal of this bachelor thesis is to peek into thoughts mechanisms of Soviet and United States society through propaganda posters they published during the World War II. I suppose, that the conversation about something indicates something about ourselves as well (by the selection of expressions or by the subject of debate). Simultaneously I inspire myself by the specific semiological approach developed by Roland Barthes. He claims that every communication has certain secondary meaning that is submitted to the recipients for some purpose. I perceive propaganda posters as a communication that has its own admitted, declared part but at the same time it also has secondary, latent part which is not very obvious at first, but it is necessary to decode it. This mentioned decoding of secondary communication will occur in three topics which I established. Firstly I will analyze how indicated societies pictured themselves. Secondly I will focus on the picture of the enemy. Third theme will be dedicated to the picture of women. In the final part I will compare how indicated societies pictured chosen topics. (in English): This thesis deals with role of religion within public sphere, in both theoretical and practical terms. In form of a comparative case study, it will analyze the relationship between the role of religion (especially various forms of Christianity) in the political culture of the Czech Republic and Germany, and in the intensity and form of Islamophobia in public debate in the two countries. The theoretical framework will have as its basis Roger Brubaker's concept of Christianism and Jürgen Habermas's idea of religion within public sphere. In both countries the author will analyse debate evolved around criticism of Charlie Hebdo's cartoons, emerged in the public discourse after the attacks on Charlie Hebdo magazine in Paris in 2015, by analysing different media German and Czech outlets. In both countries she will analyse how references to religion and certain argumentative patterns have been used in the public debate and possibly how they influenced Muslim immigration discourse.

This case study is dedicated to the Russian counter-revolutionary policies that were developed in response to the heavily supported democracy promotion by the western countries and the so- called colour revolutions in Russia's near abroad, being Rose revolution in Georgia, Orange revolution in Ukraine and Tulip revolution in Kyrgyzstan. Why did these events invoke the need to create a patriotic civil society inside Putin's regime? What tools were used to create such patriotic civil society? In this context, the thesis considers the role of political technologists Gleb Pavlovsky and Vladislav Surkov, the main engineers of counter-revolutionary policies and authors of the sovereign democracy concept. The thesis will analyse the role of the government organised youth movement Nashi that developed an anti-fascist discourse based on sovereign democracy. I connect the concept of civil society with thoughts of political philosophers such as John Locke, Thomas Paine, Robert Putnam and Alexis de Tocqueville who associated the civil society concept with certain civic virtues. Petr Kopecký and Cas Mudde provide the theoretical framework to classify the concept of ‚uncivil society'. Finally, the youth movement Nashi is classified based on criteria associated with ‚civil' and ‚uncivil' society. Key words: colour...

The thesis captures the anti-Islamic protest between 2015-2016, which accelerated after the attack on the Paris editorial of Charlie Hebdo on 7 January 2015 and during the so-called refugee crisis. The author analyzes short interviews she made at demonstrations organized especially by the group around the Facebook page Islam in the Czech Republic, and from semi-structured interviews with selected participants, as well as from participating observations at demonstrations. Using a discursive analysis and biographical method of work, she creates an ideological map of the movement, its basic tropics, and the attitudes. This ideological map consists of three perspectives: In the first chapter, a image of distant another, created mainly through media experience, involving the image of Muslims and Islam. In the second chapter, the image of close another created in a longer-term perspective and in opposition to one's own political and social identity. In the second chapter, the author also describes how the image of those who do not belong to the community (nation, state, Europe) is constructed. The third perspective is the image of the West, which combines elements of both distant and close another. The perspective that emerges in each of these chapters is a gender perspective and how different images of...

The diploma thesis deals with Marxist philosophy in Czechoslovakia between 1956 and 1968, it focuses especially on Marxist humanism. The XX. Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1956 and the Khrushchev's critique of Stalinism gave opportunity for critical approach in Marxist philosophy. Marxist humanism came with the turn to questions of man and his world and it refused the dehumanizing system of Stalinism. The campaign against revisionism was led in regimes of the Eastern Block between 1956 and 1960 as a reaction to critical efforts in Marxist theory and practice. The campaign against revisionism was led in Czechoslovakia against efforts of separation philosophy from ideology or emphasis to Hegelian origins of Marxism. Areas where was evolving critical thinking and original approach to Marxism were arising in the 1950s and especially in 1960s in Czechoslovakia. Examples of this areas were the Institute of Philosophy of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences and the dialogue between Marxists and Christians. In this thesis I examine thinking of Karel Kosík, Robert Kalivoda and Milan Machovec on questions of history and man. Through these themes I show different approaches to Marxist humanism in Czechoslovakia between the 1950s and 1960s. Marxist humanism is often seen as an unitary...

The goal of the bachelor thesis is to analyse the role of soft power in international environment from the point of view of the Power Transition Theory. The main issue is the position of soft power in the conflict emerging during the period of changing global dominance. Hypothesis assumes the challenger state in 21st century prefers to use soft power means rather than traditional military conflict for the purpose of changing status quo and reaching dominance in international environment. The case for application this proposition will be foreign policy of People's Republic of China, which seems like a potential challenger to present dominating United States in medium-term horizon.

Barbora Chrzová Citizenship Rhetorics in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Enacting Citizenship and Nationality in a Divided Country Abstract: This thesis deals with the rhetorical dimension of citizenship in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The disputed legitimacy of Bosnian statehood, ethnicization of every-day life, and a multilayered citizenship regime which leaves little space for purely civic loyalties to the state, pose an important challenge to the symbolic dimension of Bosnian citizenship. Drawing upon rhetorical approaches to citizenship, this thesis analyses how citizenship was crafted on the discursive level; how various actors formulated the question of 'who is a Bosnian citizen', how their narratives interacted and influenced each other. The thesis specifically focuses on two series of protests, the so-called 'JMBG protests' that took place in June 2013 and the 'Social uprising' which arose in February 2014. The protests challenged the dominant ethno- national framework and represented periods of intensive debates on fundamental questions of citizenship. The analysis has shown that the emptiness of the notion of Bosnian citizenship makes its discursive constructions largely context-dependent and shifting. The boundary between 'the citizens' and 'the elites,' however, appeared as a salient societal cleavage that...

In this paper I will analyze contemporary politics of memory on the basis of their temporal orientation face to face to the end of history. I will follow on the one hand theories of perception of time in regards of social dimension of an agent's identity of Henri Bergson and Jean-Paul Sartre applied on Pierre Nora's work, and on the other hand I will try to join those philosophical concepts with Ricouer's and MacIntyre's narrative approach. This theoretical base will subsequently allow me to elaborate on political temporality oriented to the sacred eternity, to the future or to the past and confront it with the hypothesis of the end of history as conceptualized by Francis Fukuyama. Politics of memory gains in this classification a peculiar status - being oriented either towards the past denying the end of history, or oriented towards diffused individualized future. The second type of politics of memory aims to heal society from history, still present in painful memory, and support establishing of post-historic reality. Paradoxically, I will argue, both types of politics of memory allow history in Fukuyma's sense to pass the threshold.

The main subject of this thesis is the attitude of political parties to the implementation of gender quotas and their approach to feminism as well. The thesis looks at the differences between the opinions of individuals, for example, whether there is a different approach between men and women. Also another important aspect is the influence of the European Union and for example the divergent approach of the politicians of the particular parties in the EU, compared to their Czech counterparts. The context of this issue is the historical development of feminism in Czech Republic, ir in Czechoslovakia, which is important for understanding the current state. The stigmatization of feminism, which has its roots in the 1990s, is reflected in both public and political views today. The second contextual level is the public's attitude, which is also influenced by the anti-feminist wave, and I believe that whose views reflex our political representatives. I look at different approaches and opinion levels on the background of two proposals for gender quotas that have been debated in Parliament since 2009.

The presented work is devoted to the development of Czech environmental movement in 1990's which is accompanied by academic debate about de-radicalisation. The aim of the thesis is to explore what sort of particular changes in the field of political ideas could be identified behind notional de-radicalisation. For this purpose is first laid out the historical context within which the movements were created onto their political ideals. It is followed by an introduction of the theoretical approaches to analyse these ideologies, outlining the basic methodological assumptions for a morphological analysis of the journals of Hnuti Duha. This analysis shows that between the periods 1991-1994 and 1998-2000 can be seen significant ideological transformations that are linked both with the inclination to certain elements of conservative thought and partly an inclination to a non-political politics. Key words green political thinking, ideology, morphological analysis, environmental movement

The master thesis deals with the historical development of humanitarian aid against the backdrop of transformations of the world order. Firstly, the thesis scrutinizes the differences between the classical humanitarianism of the Red Cross and the so-called new humanitarianism, which emerged during the Nigerian civil war (1967-1970). Secondly, the thesis demonstrates that although the new humanitarianism tends to be presented in an opposition to and as a more historically advanced form of the classic humanitarianism, when examined in a more detailed manner, the two humanitarian approaches face similar dilemmas in relation to political power. The overcoming of the "end of history" era, which gave rise and prominence to the new humanitarianism, opened discussion about the alternatives to the future of the world order. This shift allows us to formulate the main argument of the thesis - the evolution of the humanitarianism should not be seen as teleological and linear but as a continuous process in which both the classic and the new humanitarianism need to balance between strict legalism which can lead to moral failure and exaggerated moralism which can have consequences contradicting the basic principles of humanitarian action. Keywords: classical humanitarianism, new humanitarianism, human rights,...

The thesis aims at answering the following questions: which factors have played a role in the mobilization of the peripheral cultures against the dominant center? How has the center reacted to the peripheral mobilization and its demands? Why has the separatism become much stronger in New Caledonia than in French Polynesia? The thesis examines the historical, societal and political developments in French Polynesia and New Caledonia since the dawn of their colonization till the present day in order to respond to the stipulated questions.

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the dynamics of electoral support of Norwegian Fremskrittspartiet (FrP), classified here as 'functional equivalent' to the far right parties. It examines the puzzling decline in FrP's electoral support in the capital Oslo. The party's electoral support in Oslo was traditionally 30% higher than in the rest of Norway. However, since 2001, the trend has gone in the opposite direction and today, the party's electoral support in Oslo is 30% lower than in the country as a whole. I hypothesize, that this turnover was provoked by shifts in party's ideology. FrP has moved toward centre in the economic dimension and, more importantly, it has undertaken a significant authoritarian move in the cultural dimension. After analyzing the influence of both demand-side and supply-side factors on the FrP electoral support, I compare the changes in FrP's ideology with the development of Norwegian electorate's policy preferences. While not underestimating the demand-side factors and the institutional and political setting, I conclude that the party's internal development could be of crucial importance in order to understand the dynamics of its electoral support.

(thefts of socialist property) This diploma thesis observes how the problems of thefts of socialist property in Czechoslovakia were presented in the Rudé právo, the press body of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, between 1986 and 1989, or which discrepancies appeared in this presentation. The view on thefts of socialist property in the terms of law comes before the real core of the thesis - by putting stress on the definition of the socialist property in the Constitution, the given criminal act in the Penal Code, the view of the juristic literature on the social dangerousness of the given action, here represented by the Socialistická zákonnost journal. Afterwards the author focuses on how the problems of thefts (but also that of protection) of socialist property were related to the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (or rather to its officials), top managers and rank and file employees, which he illustrates on particular cases. In the end the author compares the articles of the Rudé právo with some empirical findings - in relation to the survey of the Institute for public opinion poll by the Federal statistical office about the discipline and the check on the workplace, in relation to the statistics about the economic criminal activity mentioned in the German written...
