Introduction: The diagnosis of nodular lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL) and T cell/histiocyte-rich large B-cell lymphoma (THRLBCL) can be diificult due to their overlapping histological features. Recently, insulin-like growth factor II mRNA-binding protein 3 (IMP3) has been proposed as a diagnostic marker for Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of IMP3 in differentiating between NLPHL and THRLBCL. Methods: This was a retrospective study that included formalin-fifixed paraffifin-embedded blocks from 56 patients. Of these, 28 were diagnosed with NLPHL and 28 with large B cell lymphoma (LBCL), including 16 THRLBCL and 12 DLBCL, NOS, based on immunohistochemistry (IHC). Samples were stained for IMP3 using IHC, and positive expression was defined as moderate to strong staining in at least 10% of tumor cells. Results: The mean age of the patients was 41.25 ± 16.08 years, and the majority were male. There was a signifificant age difference between NLPHL (34.61 ± 16.44 years) and LBCL (47.89 ± 12.85 years) groups (p = 0.001). No significant difference was observed in gender or site between NLPHL and LBCL groups. The expression of IMP3 was mainly strong in the LBCL group, while it was heterogeneously distributed among NLPHL samples, ranging from weak to strong (p < 0.001). It was determined that strong IMP3 expression at 55.00% can differentiate LBCL from NLPHL with 71.4% sensitivity and 71.4% specificity. Conclusion: Our findings showed that IMP3 may be a good complement in differentiating NLPHL cases from THRLBCL.

Vitamin E and paraoxonase 1 (PON1) are associated with cancer development. However, their interactive effect on colorectal cancer (CRC) risk is inconclusive. We conducted a case–control study including 1,351 CRC patients and 2,670 controls at the Korean National Cancer Centre (KNCC). There was an inverse association between vitamin E intake and CRC risk (odds ratio (OR) = 0.31; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.22–0.42). We identified a reduced CRC risk among individuals with CC genotype of PON1 rs662 polymorphism compared with subjects carrying the T allele (OR = 0.74; 95% CI = 0.61–0.90). The highest interaction between vitamin E intake and PON1 rs662 variants was significant for the subjects carrying the CC genotype (p-interaction = 0.014). This study provided further supporting evidence that vitamin E intake is associated with lower odds of CRC. Furthermore, the activity of vitamin E is strengthened among individuals carrying C allele of the PON1 rs662 polymorphism.

As the EuroQol-5-dimensions-5 levels (EQ-5D-5L) is more effective for such measurement than the 3-level model, data on economic models, clinical studies, and public health evaluations previously collected through the EQ-5D-3L need to be revaluated using the EQ-5D-5L. This study evaluated colorectal cancer (CRC) patients’ HRQoL scores using the Vietnamese EQ-5D-5L value set.Patients and Methods: The cross-sectional study included CRC patients treated at a tertiary public hospital. HRQoL was assessed using the EQ-5D-5L, and HRQoL utility scores were calculated using the Vietnamese value set. Tobit regression examined factors associated with HRQoL.Results: The analysis included 197 CRC patients. Ages ranged from 20 to 87 years (M = 57.64, SD = 13.5); 42.2% and 57.8% were diagnosed with cancer of the colon or rectum/anus, respectively. Mean EQ-5D-5L was 0.561 (range, − 0.5115 to 1). Most participants experienced anxiety/depression (88%), followed by pain/discomfort (87%), mobility (71%), usual activity (69%), and self-care (67%). Advanced CRC stage (stage II: β − 0.303, se 0.08; stage III: β − 0.305, se 0.07; stage IV: β − 0.456, se 0.07) and surgery (β − 0.113, se 0.05) were negatively associated with EQ-5D-5L scores. Advanced education (high school: β 0.273, se 0.07); college/vocational: β 0.134se 0.05; university/higher: Coef 0.213, se 0.08;) and older age (age group 35− 44: β 0.253, se 0.10; 45− 54: β 0.327, se 0.09; 55− 64: β 0.355 se 0.09; 65+ β 0.204, se 0.09) were positively associated with EQ-5D-5L scores.Conclusion: Patients in advanced CRC stages or undergoing surgery experienced lower HRQoL and higher prevalence of anxiety/depression and pain/discomfort. Older age and high educational attainment predicted high HRQoL. This study provides information on CRC patients’ health utility based on various patient characteristics, which can be used in future economic evaluations.Keywords: HRQoL, EQ-5D-5L, utility, colorectal cancer, Vietnam

BackgroundSystemic treatments, namely, either monotherapy or combination therapy, are commonly administered to patients with advanced or metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aimed to provide the complete efficacy and safety profiles and ranking of systemic therapies for the treatment of unresectable advanced or metastatic CRC.MethodsWe searched PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and ClinicalTrials.gov from inception until June 30, 2021, and also the bibliographies of relevant studies. Randomized controlled trials comparing two or more treatments, namely, at least capecitabine, 5-fluorouracil, leucovorin, irinotecan, bevacizumab, cetuximab, oxaliplatin, or panitumumab were investigated. A network meta-analysis using the Bayesian approach was performed to compare the efficacy and safety of treatments. The surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) was calculated for the probability of each treatment as the most effective. The overall response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), adverse events (AEs) grade ≥3, and serious adverse events (SAEs) were evaluated.ResultsOne hundred two publications with 36,147 participants were assigned to 39 different treatments. Among 11 treatments with full information on six outcomes, FOLFIRI/FOLFOX/FOLFOXIRI + bevacizumab significantly improved both the ORR and DCR, compared to FOLFIRI. Although FOLFOX and FOLFIRI/FOLFOX + cetuximab significantly prolonged both OS and PFS, treatments were comparable in terms of AEs grade ≥3 and SAEs. The top highest SUCRA values were observed in the FOLFOXIRI + panitumumab group for ORR (96%) and DCR (99%), FOLFIRI + bevacizumab + panitumumab group for OS (62%) and PFS (54%), and FOLFOXIRI + bevacizumab group for AEs grade ≥3 (59%) and SAEs (59%) outcomes.ConclusionsThese findings suggest an available range of systemic treatment therapies with different efficacy and safety profiles with patients.
