Vitamin D deficiency (VDD) is prevalent across all age groups in general population of India but studies among tribal populations are scanty. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of VDD in the indigenous tribal population of the Kashmir valley and examine associated risk factors.In this cross-sectional investigation, a total of 1732 apparently healthy tribal participants (n=786 males and n=946 females) were sampled from five districts of Kashmir valley by using probability proportional to size method. Serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25(OH)D) levels were classified as per the Endocrine Society (ES) recommendations: deficiency (20 ng/ml), insufficiency (20-30 ng/ml) and sufficiency (30 ng/ml). The serum 25(OH)D levels were assessed in relation to various demographic characteristics such as age, sex, education, smoking, sun exposure, body mass index and physical activity.The mean age of the male participants was 43.79±18.47 yr with a mean body mass index (BMI) of 20.50±7.53 kg/mVD deficiency is highly prevalent among Kashmiri tribals, although the magnitude seems to be lower as compared to the general population. These preliminary data are likely to pave way for further studies analyzing the impact of Vitamin D supplementation with analysis of functional outcomes.

Penetrating abdominal trauma was traditionally managed by mandatory exploration, which led to high rates of non-therapeutic surgery and prolonged hospital stay. Diagnostic laparoscopy (DL) is a less-invasive alternative; however, it requires general anaesthesia and carries a potential risk of iatrogenic injuries. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT)-guided selective non-operative management (SNOM) may avoid surgery altogether, but there is apprehension of missed injury. Randomised trials comparing these two modalities are lacking. This study is aimed at comparing outcomes of these two management approaches.Hemodynamically stable patients with penetrating trauma to anterior abdominal wall were randomised in 1:1 ratio to DL or CECT-based management. Primary outcome was length of hospital stay (LOS). Secondary outcomes were rate of non-therapeutic surgery, complications, and length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay.There were 52 patients in DL group and 54 patients in CECT group. Mean LOS was comparable (3 vs 3.5 days; p = 0.423). Rate of non-therapeutic surgery was significantly lower in CECT group (65.4 vs 17.4%, p = 0.0001). Rate of complications and length of ICU stay were similar. Selective non-operative management based on CECT findings was successful in 93.8% of patients; 2 patients had delayed surgery.In patients with penetrating trauma to anterior abdominal wall, DL and CECT-based management led to comparable hospital stay. Significant reduction in non-therapeutic surgery could be achieved using a CECT-based approach.Clinical trials registry-India (CTRI/2019/04/018721, REF/2019/01/023400).

Despite being the most common cause of secondary hypertension, prevalence of primary aldosteronism (PA) among patients with young-onset hypertension (YH - age of hypertension onset40 years) remains poorly studied.We assessed the prevalence of PA in patients with YH referred for evaluation of secondary hypertension.In this prospective, cross-sectional study, 202 patients with YH, visiting endocrine and cardiology clinics of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, India, were evaluated.Primary aldosteronism was screened by measuring plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC) and direct renin concentration (DRC) and calculating aldosterone-to-renin ratio (ARR), followed by confirmatory saline infusion test (SIT) according to Endocrine Society Guideline. Those confirmed with post-SIT PAC5 ng/dl underwent adrenal computed tomography (CT), followed by adrenal venous sampling (AVS).Of 202 YH patients, 38 (18.8%) screened positive, and PA was confirmed in 36 (17.8%). The mean age was 43.9 ± 10.9 years, and median duration of hypertension was 10.5 (3.5-18) years. The prevalence of PA increased with grade of hypertension (8.1% in grade 1 to 37.1% in grade 3), number of antihypertensive medications (2.5% in those taking ≤1 to 50% in those taking ≥4 medications) and severity of hypokalaemia (0% in potassium5 to 85.7% in potassium3.5 mmol/L). The prevalence of PA by age of hypertension onset was highest in age group 30-39 years (31.3%).There is a high prevalence and a long delay in diagnosis of PA among patients with YH, and YH should be considered as a separate high-risk category in PA screening algorithm.

Background: Before the approval of first-line immune checkpoint inhibitors, platinum doublets were the standard of care in patients with treatment-naïve advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) without targetable driver mutations. Pemetrexed-platinum combinations are preferred in non-squamous NSCLC. However, there has been no direct comparison to paclitaxel-carboplatin. Methods: This open-label randomized trial was designed to compare pemetrexed-carboplatin with (weekly) paclitaxel-carboplatin in treatment-naïve advanced/metastatic non-squamous NSCLC without driver mutations. Patients received either pemetrexed 500 mg/m2 and carboplatin AUC 5 every 3 weeks, or paclitaxel 80 mg/m2 on day 1, day 8, and day 15 with carboplatin AUC 5 every 4 weeks for 4 cycles. Patients in both arms were allowed to receive pemetrexed maintenance. Results: A total of 180 patients were enrolled. The study was terminated early; however, at the time of analysis 75.8% of the required events had occurred. Finally, 164 patients were evaluable, 83 in the pemetrexed arm and 81 in the paclitaxel arm. After a median follow-up of 17 months, progression-free survival (PFS) rates at 6 months were not different in the two treatment arms (47.45 vs. 48.64%, p = 0.88). The median PFS values were 5.67 months (95% CI 3.73–7.3) and 5.03 months (95% CI 2.63–7.43) in each arm, respectively (HR 1.13, 95% CI 0.81–1.59, p = 0.44). The median overall survival was also not different: 14.83 months (95% CI 9.5–18.73) and 11.3 (95% CI 8.3–19.7; HR 1.19, 95% CI 0.8–1.78, p = 0.37). All grade toxicities were similar except for alopecia and peripheral neuropathy, which were higher in the paclitaxel arm. Conclusion: Pemetrexed-carboplatin is not superior to (weekly) paclitaxel-carboplatin as the first-line regimen in advanced non-squamous NSCLC in terms of PFS.

Background Research has implicated hypofrontality in the pathogenesis of Negative symptoms of schizophrenia.These symptoms are often resistant to treatment. Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) has been shown to reverse this hypofrontality. Higher frequency rTMS has shown better promise, but so far there has been very little research in this area. Objective We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of high-frequency (20 Hz) unilateral rTMS over the left Dorso-Lateral Pre-frontal Cortex (DLPFC) in the improvement of Negative symptoms in Schizophrenia. Methods:100 patients of schizophrenia with predominantly negative symptoms, were enrolled for this randomized, sham-controlled, double-blind trial.Each participant received 20 sessions of rTMS at 20 Hz frequency and 100% motor threshold, via either the active or the sham coil, over 4 weeks. A total of 2000 pulses were imparted in 10 trains per session. Negative symptoms were assessed with the SANS and PANSS. CDSS was used to rule out depressive symptoms. Assessments were carried out at baseline, post-intervention, and 1-month, 2-months, 3-months and 4-months follow ups. Results The improvement in the negative symptoms (Anhedonia, Alogia, Avolition, Attention impairment) in active group was statistically significant at 0.01 and 0.05 (p-value) as compared to sham group. Conclusions These results suggest that high-frequency rTMS may lead to improvement in negative symptoms of schizophrenia. It may be worth considering its use as an adjunct to pharmacological treatment of negative symptoms.

Introduction Present study has compared methods of synthesizing the pooled effect estimate under meta-analysis, namely Fixed Effect Method (FEM), Random Effects Method (REM) and a recently proposed Weighted Least Square (WLS) method. Methods Three methods of estimating pooled effect estimates under meta-analysis were compared on the basis of coverage probability and width of confidence interval. These methods were compared for seven outcomes with varying heterogeneity and sample size using real data of systematic review comparing neo-adjuvant chemotherapy with adjuvant chemotherapy involving ‘hazard ratio' and ‘risk ratio' as effect size. Results WLS method was found to be superior to FEM having higher coverage probability in case of heterogeneity. Further, WLS with similar coverage probability was found to be superior to REM with more precise confidence interval. Conclusion Unrestricted WLS method needs to be preferred unconditionally over fixed effect method and random effects method.

Context: While analyzing locoregional recurrences (LRRs), it is necessary to consider distant metastasis as a competing event. Because, later one is more fatal than LRR. It may change ongoing treatment of breast cancer and may alter the chance of LRR. Although some earlier studies assessed the effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) on LRR, they did not use competing risk regression model for it. Aims: To identify the risk factors and predict LRR using competing risk hazard model and to compare them with those using conventional hazard model. Settings and Design: This was a retrospective study from a tertiary care cancer hospital in India. Subjects and Methods: Data of 2114 breast cancer patients undergoing surgery were used from patient's record files (1993–2014). Statistical Analysis: Fine and Gray competing risk regression was used to model time from surgery to LRR, considering distant metastasis and death as the competing events. Further, cause-specific Cox regression was used to model time from surgery to LRR without considering competing risk. Results: Greater than ten positive nodes (hazard ratio [HR] [95% confidence interval (CI)]: 2.19 [1.18–4.03]), skin involvement (HR [95% CI]: 2.75 [1.50–5.05]), NACT (HR [95% CI]: 1.90 [1.06–3.40]), invasive tumor in inner quadrant (HR [95% CI]: 1.78 [0.98–3.24]), and postoperative radiotherapy (HR [95% CI]: 0.52 [0.29–0.94]) were found to be significantly associated with LRR. However, conventional survival analysis ignoring competing risk overestimated cumulative incidence function and underestimated survival. Competing risk regression provided relatively more precise CI. Conclusions: Competing risks, if any, need to be incorporated in the survival analysis. NACT was found to be associated with higher risk for LRR, which may be because of administering it mainly to patients with bad prognosis. PURPOSE ABVD (doxorubicin, bleomycin,vinblastine, and dacarbazine) is not a standard regimen in children due to concerns regarding late effects. However, no studies have evaluated long-term toxicities of ABVD in children. METHODS Total 154 pediatric Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) survivors uniformly treated with ABVD were clinically followed up as per institutional protocol. All participants were evaluated for cardiac, pulmonary, and thyroid function abnormalities by multigated acquisition scan (MUGA) scan, spirometry with diffusion capacity of lung for the uptake of carbon monoxide (DLCO), and thyroid profile test, respectively, at a single time point. Predictors of toxicity were also analyzed. RESULTS The median duration of follow-up of the cohort was 10.3 years (6.04-16.8). No secondary malignant neoplasm (SMN) or symptomatic cardiac/pulmonary toxicities were detected. Nine patients (5.9%) had left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF)

Context.— The histologic features in patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) are evolving, and histologic indicators of patients' poor prognosis are not yet fully established. Objective.— To evaluate the independent histologic predictors of 28-day mortality in ACLF patients on core-needle liver biopsies. Design.— Core-needle biopsies from patients with a diagnosis of ACLF (n = 152) as per the European Association for the Study of the Liver criteria were included during 8 years. Liver biopsies from 98 patients with compensated chronic liver disease were included as disease controls for histologic comparison. Features of ongoing changes, such as hepatic necrosis, hepatic apoptosis, cholestasis, hepatocyte degeneration, bile ductular proliferation, Mallory-Denk bodies, steatosis, and extent of liver fibrosis, were analyzed for predicting short-term mortality (28 days). A P value of Results.— In our cohort of ACLF patients, the following etiologies for acute decompensation were identified: alcohol, 47 of 152 (30.9%); sepsis, 24 of 152 (15.7%); hepatotropic viruses, 20 of 152 (13.1%); drug-induced liver injury, 11 of 152 (7.2%); autoimmune flare, 9 of 152 (5.9%); mixed etiologies, 5 of 152 (3.2%); and cryptogenic, 36 of 152 (23.6%). On histologic examination, hepatic necrosis (P < .001), dense lobular inflammation (P = .03), cholestasis (P < .001), ductular reaction (P = .001), hepatocyte degeneration (P < .001), and absence of advanced fibrosis stages (P < .001) were identified significantly more othen in ACLF patients than in disease controls on univariate analysis. On multivariate Cox regression analysis, the absence of advanced Ishak histologic activity index fibrosis stages (P = .02) and the presence of dense lobular inflammation (P = .04) were associated with increased 28-day mortality in ACLF patients. After adjusting the clinical causes of acute decompensation, only dense lobular inflammation was found as an independent predictor of short-term mortality (P = .04) in ACLF patients. Conclusions.— Dense lobular necroinflammatory activity is a clinically independent histologic predictor of 28-day short-term mortality in patients with ACLF.

BACKGROUND: Neurocognitive deficits are an important late effect in survivors of acute lymphoblastic Leukemia(ALL). Data from low middle income countries is scarce and highly influenced by biological and cultural variations. Such data would be useful for highlighting the importance of early intervention in an already disadvantaged population. PROCEDURE: 70 consecutive survivors of childhood ALL were evaluated for neurocognitive deficits by the Indian adaptation of Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Fourth Edition(WISC-INDIA). Prevalence of neurocognitive deficits was calculated based on Full Scale Intelligence Quotient(FSIQ) and scores in discrete domains like Verbal Comprehension, Perceptual Reasoning, Working Memory and Processing Speed were calculated and compared to baseline characteristics, chemotherapy and radiation dose received. Background: The therapeutic benefits of repetitive trans cranial magnetic stimulation along with physical therapy to study the neuroplasticity and neurogenesis in ischemic stroke patients has not been fully elucidated. The aim of this study is to determine the neuroplasticity using serum growth factors as a surrogate marker, using 1Hz rTMS with conventional physiotherapy in patients with sub acute ischemic stroke.Methods: In this study, participants with first ever ischemic stroke (N = 96), onset within 15 days were randomized after a run-in period of 75 ± 7 days along with standard physical therapy to receive 10 sessions of real 1Hz rTMS (N = 47) on contralesional premotor cortex or to sham stimulation (N = 49) for 2 weeks. Participants, investigators and outcome assessors were blinded. The primary efficacy outcome was change in the level of peripheral serum growth factors VEGF & BDNF at third month. The secondary outcome was measurement of neurophysiological parameters and their correlation with growth factors levels.Results: Modified intention to treat analysis showed significant up regulation in the mean level of serum VEGF & BDNF from pre to post rTMS in Real rTMS Group. Trend of decrease in Resting Motor Threshold and increase in Motor Evoked Potential in the affected hand was seen. Statistically significant negative correlation between motor evoked potential and mean VEGF (rho = -1.000, PConclusion: Total ten sessions of 1Hz rTMS plus physical therapy on contralateral hemisphere resulted in up regulation of serum growth factors possible reflecting improved neuroplasticity. To study the growth and neurodevelopmental outcome of very and moderate preterm infants (VMPT) compared to term appropriate-for-age (term AGA) infants at 18-months corrected age.This prospective cohort study enrolled consecutively born 212 VMPT infants and 250 term AGA controls delivered during study period.Major neurodevelopmental impairment (NDI) defined as any one of cerebral palsy, motor (MoDQ) or mental developmental quotient (MoDQ)70 on Developmental Assessment Scale for Indian infants, visual or hearing impairment, or epilepsy, and growth outcomes.Among 195 VMPT and 240 term AGA infants who completed follow-up, the frequency of major NDI was 12.8% and 2.5% respectively (RR 5.1; 95% CI [2.13-12.19]). Major NDI was higher among infants28 weeks gestation (39%) and birthweight1000 grams (27%). A quarter of VMPT infants exhibited wasting and 18% stunting than 7% each among controls.VMPT infants had a higher frequency of major NDI and growth failure at 18-months.

This prospective study aimed to compare the pattern of mitochondrial deoxyribonucleic acid D-loop (mt-DNA D-loop) variations in 41 paired samples of de novo pediatric acute myeloid leukemia (AML) (baseline vs. relapse) patients by Sanger's sequencing. Mean mt-DNA D-loop variation was 10.1 at baseline as compared with 9.4 per patients at relapse. In our study, 28 (68.3%) patients showed change in number of variations from baseline to relapse, 11 (26.8%) patients showed increase, 17 (41.6%) patients showed decrease, and 7 (17.1%) patients who suffered a relapse had a gain at position T489C. No statistically significant difference was observed in the mutation profile of mt-DNA D-loop region from baseline to relapse in the evaluated population of pediatric AML.

Elevated serum interleukin-6 (IL-6) in Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is reported to correlate with B symptoms, response rate and survival in adult patients. The authors studied prognostic significance of IL-6 expression by immunohistochemistry on Hodgkin-Reed Sternberg cells and background reactive cells in a retrospective cohort of pediatric HL patients treated with doxorubicin, bleomycin, vinblastine and dacarbazine (ABVD) from January 2009 through December 2013. Of 142 patients, tissue blocks were retrieved in 110 patients. On logistic regression analysis, IL-6 expression on background cells alone was among the factors associated with inferior response rate (OR-9.9, 95%CI-1.2, 78.3; p = 0.03). On multivariate analysis, IL-6 expression on background cells alone had significant impact on 5 y freedom from treatment failure (FFTF) (HR-7.7, 95% CI-1.2, 48.6; p = 0.03). IL-6 expression by immunohistochemistry in the background cells is an independent poor predictor of response and FFTF in pediatric HL. Further prospective studies in children are needed to confirm the current findings and whether IL-6 expression can be used to stratify treatment.

Background:Epithelial ovarian cancer continues to be a deleterious threat to women as it is asymptomatic and is typically detected in advanced stages. Cogent non-invasive biomarkers are therefore needed which are effective in apprehending the disease in early stages. Recently, miRNA deregulation has shown a promising magnitude in ovarian cancer tumorigenesis. miRNA-145(miR- 145) is beginning to be understood for its possible role in cancer development and progression. In this study, we identified the clinicopathological hallmarks altered owing to the downexpression of serum miR-145 in EOC.Methods:70 serum samples from histopathologically confirmed EOC patients and 70 controls were collected. Total RNA from serum was isolated by Trizol method, polyadenylated and reverse transcribed into cDNA. Expression level of miR-145 was detected by miRNA qRT-PCR using RNU6B snRNA as reference.Results:The alliance of miR-145 profiling amongst patients and controls established itself to be conspicuous with a significant p-value (pConclusion:Our results propose that miR-145 down-regulation might be a possible touchstone for disease progression and be identified as a diagnostic marker and predict disease outcome in EOC patients.

The role of mitochondrial DNA (mt-DNA) changes, especially those in the regulatory D-loop region in Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) remains investigational. Consecutive 151 de novo pediatric AML patients, (≤18 yr) were prospectively enrolled from June 2013-August 2016, to assess the prognostic impact of mt-DNA D-loop variations (somatic/germline) on survival. For each patient, D-loop region was sequenced on baseline bone marrow and buccal swab, and mother's blood sample. In 151 AML subjects, 1490 variations were found at 237 positions; 80.9% were germline and 19.1% somatic. The mean number of variations per position was 6.3. Variations with frequency ≥6 were analyzed for their impact on survival and 4 categories were created, namely "somatic-protective", "somatic-hazardous", "germline-protective" and "germline- hazardous". Although, somatic-protective could not predict event free survival (EFS) or overall survival (OS), somatic-hazardous [(OS) HR = 2.33, p = 0.06] and germline-hazardous [(OS) HR = 2.85, p < 0.01] significantly predicted OS and EFS. Notably, the germline-protective, could significantly predict EFS (HR = 0.31, p = 0.03) and OS (HR = 0.19, p < 0.01), only when variations at ≥2 positions were present. On multivariate analysis, three positions namely 16111, 16126, 16362 and karyotype were found to be predictive of EFS. A prognostic index (PI) was developed using nomogram PI = (0.8*karyotype) + (1.0*c16111) + (0.7*t16362) + (1.2*t16126). Hazard ratio for EFS increased significantly with increasing PI reaching to a maximum of 3.3 (p < 0.01). In conclusion, the impact of mt-DNA D-loop variations on outcomes in pediatric AML depends on their nature (germline/somatic), position and mutational burden, highlighting their potential role as evolving prognostic biomarkers.

AIM The present study aimed to standardize the ordered subset expectation maximization (OSEM) reconstruction parameters for a dynamic PET/CT study. PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS A locally fabricated phantom was filled with fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (F-FDG) for four different sphere to background ratios (SBRs), that is, 10 : 1, 8 : 1, 6 : 1, and 4 : 1, and dynamic PET/CT was acquired for 5 min. Transaxial slices were reconstructed using OSEM [full-width at half-maximum (FWHM): 1-7 mm and iterations: 1-8]. Two nuclear medicine physicians visually rated image quality on the basis of the following criteria: score 1: poor quality, score 2: average quality, and score 3: good quality. The quantitative assessment of image quality was performed on the basis of the calculation of noise, horizontal, and vertical line profiles. The standardized parameters were applied to the PET/CT study of seven non-small-cell lung cancer patients, and their image quality was compared with the vendor-provided default parameters. RESULTS In the phantom study, for SBR 10 : 1, the images reconstructed with FWHM 4 mm and four iterations, for SBR 8 : 1 and 6 : 1, the image with FWHM 3 mm and five iterations, and for SBR 4 : 1, the image with FWHM 2 mm and five iterations were found to have the best quality. In the patient study, FWHM 4 mm and four iterations were found to be suitable for the reconstruction of dynamic F-FDG PET/CT studies with a tumor to background ratio of 10 : 1. With an increase in iterations, noise and sharpness in the image increased, whereas with an increase in FWHM, the image became smoother. CONCLUSION The standardized reconstruction parameters of OSEM for the dynamic PET/CT study were found to be 4-mm filter FWHM and four iterations in SBR 10 : 1.

Introduction Dysregulation of apoptosis has been explored in acute myeloid leukemia (AML); yet, its correlation with clinical outcomes in pediatric AML is unknown. This study was aimed to analyze percentage of apoptosis and apoptosis mediated through the intrinsic pathway with clinical outcomes in patients with pediatric AML. Methods This prospective study included pediatric AML patients enrolled from July 2013 to August 2016. Annexin-V (marker of total apoptosis) and caspase-9 expression (marker of intrinsic pathway) was determined in baseline bone marrow (BM) samples by flow cytometery and compared with controls (unaffected BM of solid tumors and peripheral blood [PB] of unaffected siblings). Overall survival (OS) and event-free survival (EFS) were compared using log-rank test. Results A total of 151 AML patients were enrolled, median age 10 (range: 0.7-18 years). Annexin-V expression in blast cells was significantly high in AML patients as compared to BM of subjects with solid tumors (P = 0.01) and PB of healthy subjects (P = 0.04). Caspase-9 expression in blast cells was not significantly different. Median annexin-V expression was significantly higher in patients with WBC count ≥11 000/mm3 (P = 0.02), poor-risk cytogenetics (P = 0.02), the absence of RUNX1-RUNX1T1 translocation (P = 0.004), and the absence of NPM1 mutation (P = 0.05). Patients with high annexin-V expression had significantly inferior OS (P = 0.05) in univariate analysis but not in multivariate analysis (P = 0.32). Conclusion Apoptosis as a whole was found to be activated in baseline BM samples of AML patients. High apoptosis may be associated with high-risk phenotype in this disease.

Background and Purpose: Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) markers have not been widely studied in relation to hematoma volume and growth in hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). The objectives to assess the relationship of white matter hyperintense lesions (WMHL), microbleeds (MBs), and cortical siderosis (CSS) with hematoma volume, hematoma expansion (HE), and 3 months outcome in patients with hypertensive ICH. Methods: All consecutive acute hypertensive supratentorial ICH presenting to the emergency were prospectively recruited. Baseline and 24 hours computed tomography (CT) to assess hematoma volume and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for CSVD markers were performed in all subjects. WMHL (graded using Fazekas's scale), MBs, and CSS were assessed and compared with baseline variables and outcomes. All the images were assessed by an experienced stroke neurologist/neuroradiologist. Results: One hundred and fifty-seven patients were screened and 60 were included. Mean age was 54.08 ± 11.57 years and 47 (78%) were males. Of 60, 19 (28.1%) had HE, 31 (51.6%) had major bleed (>30 ml), and 28 (47.46%) had poor 3 month outcome (mRS 4-6). On univariate analysis, high grade WMHL was associated with greater HE [odds ratio (OR): 2.65, confidence interval (CI) 1.48–4.72, P = 0.001), greater proportion with volume >30 ml (OR: 7.16, CI: 1.09–47.13, P = 0.001) and poor outcome (OR: 2.1, CI: 0.05–3.27, P = 0.001). MBs were associated with poor outcome (P = 0.029) but not with HE/volume. CSS was related to HE (P = 0.031), a large volume bleed (P = 0.023), and poor outcome (P = 0.021). On multivariate model, only WMHL independently predicted HE (P = 0.034), greater proportion with bleed volume >30 ml (P = 0.041), and poor outcome (P = 0.042). Conclusions: WMHL in MRI serves as a predictor of hematoma expansion, a large volume bleed, and poor outcome in hypertensive ICH and may be incorporated into existing prediction models.
