In the present study, an improvised design over circular stepped cascade (CSC) and pooled circular stepped cascade (PCSC) aerator, named the perforated pooled circular stepped cascade (PPCSC) aerator, has been conceptualized and tested for its suitability as an aerator for small intensive aquaculture ponds. Based on dimensional analysis, dimensionless geometric parameters – ratio of width of consecutive steps (Wi/Wi+1) and ratio of perforation diameter to bottom-most radius (d/Rb) and dimensionless dynamic parameters – Froude (Fr) and Reynolds (Re) number were proposed. Initially, aeration experiments were conducted to optimize the geometric parameters, keeping the dynamic parameters constant. Keeping the optimized values of Wi/Wi+1 = 1.05 and d/Rb = 0.0027 as constants, aeration experiments were further conducted at different discharges (Q) and different bottommost radius (Rb) to study the characteristics of oxygen transfer and power consumption of PPCSC aerator at different dynamic conditions. Based on the optimized results, four prototype PPCSC aerators with Rb = 0.75 m, 0.90 m, 1.05 m and 1.20 m were fabricated for their aeration performances. The results showed that the standard aeration efficiency (SAE) values of the prototype PPCSC aerators based on brake power ranged between 3.36 and 4.98 kg O2/kWh, with the average being 4.45 ± 0.741 kg O2/kWh. This shows that the SAE of the PPCSC aerator is many more folds higher than that of the other available cascade aerators, viz., PCSC (SAE: 2.873 ± 0.342 kg O2/kWh) and CSC (2.470 ± 0.256 kg O2/kWh) aerators. The study clearly indicates that this PPCSC aerator may very well be used as pre-aeration or post-aeration units in water or wastewater treatment plants and small-scale intensive aquacultural ponds, replacing the other existing aerators.

The performance of the perforated tray aerator (PTA) was evaluated by conducting experiments in a tank of size 4 m × 4 m × 1.5 m. Based on the dimensional analysis, non-dimensional numbers related to geometric variables, viz. numbers of trays (n), ratio of consecutive width of tray to total height of aerator , ratio of perforation diameter to total height of aerator and ratio of the volume of water in the tank to total height of aerator were developed. Experiments were conducted with different numbers of trays (n): 1, 2, 3 and 4, keeping = 0.33, = 2.5 × 10−4, = 2,500 and pump flow rate (Q) = 0.010 m3/s as constants. The optimum number of perforated trays was found to be 3. Response surface methodology (RSM) and central composite rotatable design (CCRD) were used to further optimize the geometric variables with combinations of non-dimensional geometric variables , and . The flow rate (Q) of 0.013 m3/s and number of trays (n) as 3 were kept as constants. The optimum performance of PTA was obtained at = 0.665, = 1.85 × 10−4 and = 312.50 with the maximum non-dimensional standard aeration efficiency (NDSAE) and standard aeration efficiency (SAE) of 35.58 × 10−3 and 1.45 kgO2/kWh.

In the present study, economic feasibility of culturing Indian major carps (IMC) in conventional culture system (CCS) and organic culture system (OCS) was evaluated considering three consecutive years of culture (2010, 2011 and 2012) in experimental ponds with surface area of 0.015 ha, each measuring 0.015 ha. Highest production to the tune of 19 tonnes of Indian major carps per hectare was obtained in OCS. Further, in case of OCS, apart from fish production, vermicompost to the tune of 45,000 kg ha-1 in the first year, and 90,000 kg ha-1 from second year is achievable considering a vermicompost unit with capacity of 200 tonnes per annum. Economic analysis of the culture systems showed that highest net present value (NPV) of 1.06 million US$, a payback period of one year and nine months and an internal rate of return (IRR) of 51 % are achievable per hectare of fish culture pond for OCS assuming the project period to be 10 years. Sensitivity analysis of various costs performed for OCS revealed that profitability of the organic fish farming investment is most sensitive to the total fish production and sale price of the organic fishes. In terms of production of fish, vermicomposting, water quality dynamics, quality of fish and economics, organic culture system is proved to be the best available technique.

The aim of this prospective study is to evaluate the students appearing for university examination in Orthodontic dentistry. A total of 150 students enrolled in this study from two consecutive academic sessions. In Group I (2015-2016) final year graduate students of 75 students received conventional class room lectures; group II (2016-2017) final year graduate students of 75 students received flipped class room lectures. The curriculums for both the groups were approved from the department of Orthodontic Dentistry, Saveetha Dental College and Committee Members for Education, Saveetha University. At the end of each academic year marks scored out of 200 marks were obtained and subjected to statistical analysis. All the students cleared the university examination held at respective academic years for both the groups. Selection of aerator is a very important aspect in aquaculture operations. The selected aerator must be economically efficient and should be able to fulfil the requirement of oxygen supply in the pond water. In the present study, economic feasibility of nine different types of aerators, namely, perforated pooled circular stepped cascade (PPCSC), pooled circular stepped cascade (PCSC), circular stepped cascade (CSC), paddle wheel (PWA), spiral aerator (SA), propeller-aspirator-pump (PAA), submersible (SUBA), impeller aerator (IA) and air-jet aerator (AJA) was assessed based on capitalization method, a life cycle costing (LCC) approach. The results revealed that the PPCSC aerator can be considered as the most suitable aerator when dissolved oxygen (DO) content in the pond water is less than equal to 3 mg/L, and pond water volume (V) is less than 2100 m3. In other situations, mostly when pond water volume is more, IA proves to be the most suitable aerator, followed by PWA, PPCSC, and other available aerators. The sensitivity analysis conducted by using varying stocking density and capital cost also showed the same trend with regard to selection of aerators. This life cycle costing approach for selection of aerator can be implemented for any types of cultured species at any prevailing environmental conditions.

This paper presents a design of single-fed circularly polarized patch antenna at 2.4 GHz-band for RF energy harvesting application. The irregular shaped patch is obtained by genetic algorithm optimization technique. The fitness function for circular polarization and return loss has reliably conflated in the genetic algorithm. The optimized irregular shaped single-fed microstrip patch antenna is designed using Matlab and HFSS software and the simulated result shows a return loss of -15.498 dB and the axial ratio of 2.09 dB at 2.41 GHz resonating frequency.

Introduction: In India, in 2016, the medical council of India introduced one single common entrance test called NEET- National Eligibility Entrance Test for admission to all the medical, dental and paramedical courses after 12th standard for government as well as private institutes. Since NEET is the first attempt by the government of India to create a central admission process, it is clearly in its early process and there is an incredible need for scientific data to evolve the system. The aim of this study is to analyze if the admissions through NEET affected the quality of students with respect to their academic performance pursuing the undergraduate dental program, especially in the private colleges. Materials and Methodology: The academic performance was measured by comparing the Dental Anatomy (DA) subject marks acquired by the students in their university exam at the end of first year of their BDS course for the years 2015, 2016 and 2017. Results: There was a significant difference (0.05) between the two NEET batches i.e. between 2016 and 2017 batches. Conclusion: The academic quality of dental graduates in first year of the BDS course could be considered better considering the marks of dental anatomy subject for both the NEET batches 2016 and 2017 compared to the NON-NEET batch of 2015.

There are different admission tests around the world exclusively for admission to dental schools. NEET National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a multiple choice entrance exam in India for medical, dental as well as paramedical courses, including nursing, physical therapy, pharmacy, and occupational therapy. There is no exclusive test only for dental admissions. There is no scientific literature on NEET and its effects on students, parents as well as the teaching faculty. Though there are a lot of news articles and blogs about it. There is no evidence on how the staff of dental fraternity perceived this change in admissions of students to dental colleges. There has been significant controversy around this change in the admission process. The aim of this survey is to understand the perspective of the dental teaching faculty about NEET, the admission procedure, the difference in the quality of students and the type of the questions in the exam.

This paper presents the antenna miniaturization at 2.4 GHz (desired frequency) using genetic algorithm. The microstrip patch antenna resonating at higher frequency is designed conventionally and the structure of the rectangular patch is modified through the algorithm in order to shift the resonant frequency while keeping the physical volume of the antenna constant. Genetic Algorithm has been used to shift the resonance frequency, but the resultant frequency is always random. Here the resultant frequency (2.4 GHz) is fixed with the help of a proper fitness function. Genetic algorithm was applied on patch surface of conventional 3 GHz and 4 GHz antennas and the rate of miniaturization is 24.4% and 45.8% respectively.

In this study, the performance of a spiral aerator, a modified design of the paddlewheel aerator, was evaluated to determine its applicability in aquaculture ponds. The aeration characteristics of the spiral aerator were determined by conducting aeration experiments in a cement concrete tank of dimension 5 × 5 × 1.5 m. Nondimensional numbers related to oxygen transfer (E) and power consumption (Ne) were proposed and expressed as functions of geometric (number of handles per shaft, n) and dynamic (Froude and Reynolds number) parameters. Simulation equations for oxygen transfer and power consumption based on the Froude criterion were developed. The maximum brake power standard aeration efficiency was achieved at n = 13. Finally, an economic analysis was performed assuming a typical Indian major carp culture pond to determine the optimum rotational speed of the aerator at different pond volumes and dissolved oxygen concentration present in the pond at which the aeration cost is minimized. The results showed that the least aeration cost is achievable when rotational speed of the spiral aerator is only 70 rpm for pond volumes up to 700 m3 and from 120 to 220 rpm for pond volumes exceeding 700 m3.
