78. Relational Reasoning's Contributions to Mathematical Thinking and Performance in Chinese Elementary and Middle-School Students

Abstract

The overarching goal of this 2-phase study was to investigate the contributions of relational reasoning to mathematical thinking and performance for 790 primary and middle-school Chinese students. Phase I of the study was undertaken to establish the reliability and validity of the Test of Relational Reasoning-Junior (TORRjr), a 32-item measure developed to assess children's and young adolescents' ability to reason analogically, anomalously, antinomously, and antithetically. The range of analyses from item difficulties to the overall structural model showed the TORRjr to be a psychometrically sound measure for study participants. There was also evidence of development in students' relational reasoning ability. In Phase II, the contributions of TORRjr performance to results of a novel measure of quantitative relations (QRTC[superscript 2]), a traditional measure of mathematical ability (MAT), and a fluid measure of mental rotation (MRT) were examined. Relational reasoning was significantly associated with performance on all 3 measures to a moderate or moderately strong level. Relational reasoning was also found to partially mediate the association between the QRTC[superscript 2] and MAT and fully mediate the relation between MRT and MAT. Multiple-group regression analyses revealed a stronger association between relational reasoning and mathematical performance for middle-school students than for primary students. Theoretical and practical implications of the outcomes from both phases are forwarded.

Abstract

Optoelectronic memristors, which possess the potential capacities of in‐sensor computing, promote the development of highly efficient neuromorphic vision. In this work, a novel optoelectronic memristor based on chlorophyll (Chl) heterojunction is proposed, which consists of two types of Chl derivatives (zinc methyl 3‐devinyl‐3‐hydroxymethyl‐pyropheophorbide‐a and methyl 131‐deoxo‐131‐dicyanomethylene‐pyropheophorbide‐a). Chl heterojunction improves the optoelectronic performance of the device due to its ability to efficiently separate photogenerated electron‐hole pairs. The device exhibits the synaptic potentiation and inhibition behaviors under light stimulations of 430 and 730 nm, respectively, thus demonstrating the all‐optically modulated synaptic plasticity. The switching mechanism can be attributed to the photo‐ionization/deionization of oxygen vacancies at the zinc oxide (ZnO)/Chl interface. In addition, the image pre‐processing functions of contrast enhancement and noise reduction are implemented in a memristive array. In particular, the edge detection function has been implemented by utilizing reversible optical modulation, which highlights the object outline. Abstract

To synthesize high-quality TS-1 zeolites with enhanced catalytic performance for 1-hexene epoxidation is highly attractive for meeting the increased need for sustainable chemistry. Herein, we report that a series of framework Ti-enriched TS-1 zeolites with high crystallinity can be effectively synthesized by the hydrothermal crystallization of a composite precursor composed of diol-based polymer (containing titanium and silicon) and tetrapropylammonium bromide (TPABr). The pre-addition of a certain amount of TPABr into the polymer-based precursor plays a very positive role in maintaining the high crystallinity and framework Ti incorporation rate of TS-1 zeolites under the premise that a relatively low concentration of tetrapropylammonium hydroxide (TPAOH) template is adopted in the following hydrothermal crystallization process. The condition-optimized TS-1 zeolite with a smaller particle size (300–500 nm) shows excellent catalytic activity, selectivity, and recyclability for the epoxidation of 1-hexene with H2O2 as an oxidant, which can achieve a 75.4% conversion of 1-hexene and a 99% selectivity of epoxide at a reaction temperature of 60 °C, which is much better than the TS-1 zeolites reported in the previous literature. The relatively small particle size of the resultant TS-1 crystals may enhance the accessibility of the catalytically active framework Ti species to reagents, and the absence of non-framework Ti species, like anatase TiO2, and low polymerized six-coordinated Ti species could effectively inhibit the ineffective decomposition of H2O2 and the occurrence of side reactions, leading to an improvement in the catalytic efficiency for the epoxidation of 1-hexente with H2O2. Abstract

In this paper, the stochastic asymptotic behavior of the nonautonomous stochastic higher-order Kirchhoff equation with variable coefficients is studied. By using the Galerkin method, the solution of this kind of equation is obtained, and stochastic dynamical system under this kind of equation is obtained; by using the uniform estimation, the existence of the family of Dk{{\mathcal{D}}}_{k}-absorbing sets of the stochastic dynamical system Φk{\Phi }_{k} is obtained, and the asymptotic compactness of Φk{\Phi }_{k} is proved by the decomposition method. Finally, the Dk{{\mathcal{D}}}_{k}-stochastic attractor family of the stochastic dynamical system Φk{\Phi }_{k} in Vm+k(Ω)×Vk(Ω){V}_{m+k}\left(\Omega )\times {V}_{k}\left(\Omega ) is obtained.
