This article addresses the relationship between worldview, territory, and language among the Mapuche people. Our research aims to explore, through the voices of Mapuche elders, the sociocultural, political, and territorial knowledge that guides the teaching and transmission of Mapuzugun to new generations. In alignment with the proposed objective, we have adopted a socio-critical approach to explore Mapuche identity through the territorial and communal dimensions that underpin linguistic revitalization. The findings reveal that the elders possess a vast source of knowledge, serving as primary cultural bearers through epistemology centered on the unity of language and territory. In this interview, Dyana Gaye shares insights on Tigritudes, an itinerant subjective anthology of Pan-African cinema which started in Paris from January 2022 and continues to circulate along the African continent and the whole world. Co-curated by Dyana Gaye and Valérie Osouf, this is a crucial project to overcome the lack of access to African cinema and to decolonise the gaze, through an activist and engaged labour of love and a dialogical approach.

The article contains an overview of research practices of the 19th – early 20th on Russian colonization understood as the settlement and economic development of empty or sparsely populated territories. The tasks included the study of the ideas concerning territory development, environment influence, understanding the role of colonization in the formation of the Russian state, as well as the significance of the colonization theory for historiography. The range of sources included scientific works by more than 20 scholars. Among the authors there are thinkers of different scientific schools and trends, which allowed us to consider a wide range of approaches to understanding the phenomenon of the colonization of Russia. Attention is paid to the analysis of both integral and regional interpretation of the colonization process. The theoretical and methodological basis for the study was the concept of “spatial turn”. It is shown that the colonization theory has proven productive in identifying the features of the historical evolution of Russia through the prism of its territorial growth and geographical conditions. Pre-revolutionary scholars noted that the expansion of the country was facilitated by the large capacity of the space of the north-eastern part of the European continent. The predominantly peaceful, but uneven and drawn-out character of colonization with a touch of permanence was emphasized. Researchers have identified its causes, directions, forms and consequences. Space was perceived as a valuable resource, and its scale as an achievement of the joint efforts of the state and society. The vastness of the state territory contributed to the establishment of a strong centralized power. It is concluded that the colonization theory has expanded and enriched historiography with historical, geographical and regional studies. It became one of the metanarratives of historical science in the modern period. Within its framework, the following problematic issues were raised and resolved: the factors of the formation of state territory, the peculiarities of its settlement, the spatial organization of the country. The colonization theory retains a high heuristic potential for the postmodernist study of the genesis of the space of the Russian state, including in the trend of the history of the frontier.

This paper presents an overview of the Danube municipalities on the Bulgarian coast, with a particular focus on their spatial and socio-economic characteristics as territorial units. The paper outlines the structural postulates that highlight the importance of the Danube coast for the regional development of the Danube region and the development of the Bulgarian geographical space. The paper goes on to present a characterization of the Danube region in a more general context as a part of the pan-European space, together with an outline of the development of socio-geographical processes and phenomena. In practice, the region presents many challenges for forming regional development policies and interest in the area in terms of tourism and investment. The paper presents relevant conclusions and recommendations for developing the Bulgarian municipalities along the Danube.

Recent studies on political practices and languages in the Middle Ages have highlighted how violence did not play a residual role nor did it represent an antiquated or outdated practice. When considered in the specific context of production, discourses based on and around violence have thus regained their original meaning and become a fundamental heuristic tool for understanding the dynamics of competition and the construction of political spaces. The aim of this contribution is to highlight and publish an interesting dossier of reports produced by the citizens of Udine in 1350 against the members of the castellan faction that had just assasinated the patriarch Betrand of Saint-Geniès. Reports mainly refer to acts of violence and abuse perpetrated by the castellans against the workers and rural employees of the udinese landowners and aristocrats. As I will try to demonstrate, the strategy of the castellan faction seems to have been to reorganise and redefine local territorial spaces through the use of threats and violence in which the peasants of the udinese citizens (and their bodies) were both the target and 'medium' of the language of violence.

The pedagogical affordances of Extended Reality (XR) are extensively documented, particularly in the fields of medicine and teacher training, yet remain underexplored in the context of education to territory. This contribution provides an overview of studies on XR technology in this field, involving keyword selection related to XR, heritage education, landscape education, and place-based education. The 23 selected articles were analyzed based on content focus (more geographic or more historical-artistic) and methodological approach. Literature confirms that XR technologies in territorial education can enhance learning outcomes, interest, and participant engagement. However, future research should prioritize empirical studies with experimental or quasi-experimental designs to provide robust evidence of XR benefits in these dimensions. Future literature reviews should explore additional disciplinary perspectives within the complex domain of territorial education.

The paper compares the impact of public opinion about the war on political decisions in Ukraine and Russia. The research question is relevant in two senses. First, Ukraine defends itself against Russia’s unprovoked aggression. Second, Ukraine’s President Zelensky was elected in 2019 on the promise to develop direct democracy and various mechanisms of public participation in the political process, and that actualizes research of public opinion. The author used the data of the results of mass surveys conducted in the two belligerent countries in 2023 and 2024 by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology and the Levada Center. Answers to an open-ended question and two closed-ended questions were analyzed using content analysis and regression analysis. It is demonstrated that public opinion in Ukraine had its own dynamics and changed independently of the official position of the authorities. Changes in the public opinion in 2024 were particularly noticeable, and the perception of potential territorial concessions illustrates this tendency. Advantages and disadvantages of the independence of public opinion at wartime are considered. It is proposed to consider more active counterpropaganda efforts targeting Russia’s population, where the minor changes in public opinion and the authorities’ position were in the same direction; and rallying around the flag effect continued during the analyzed period.

The BRICS organization is making significant and consistent progress in its development. The 15th BRICS Summit was held in Johannesburg from 22 to 24 August 2023. This summit is a global event that sets the trends and guiding principles for future economic policies. Four of the five BRICS member countries are among the ten largest countries in the world in terms of GDP, territory and population. According to open sources, the total area of the BRICS countries is 39.7 million square kilometers (26.7% of the world’s land surface), and the population is estimated at3.2 billion people (41.5% of the world’s population). The economic potential of BRICS, as the leading economic organization in the world, is more than significant. These competitive advantages in the economy and financial sphere represent an enormous resource of industrial, human and technological potential that can serve as the locomotive of the global economy. Following the conclusion of the above summit, the leaders of the BRICS countries adopted the final “Johannesburg-2” declaration, which noted the advisability of using their countries’ respective national currencies in international trade and collectively resolving problems related to international debt. In addition, decisions were made to expand BRICS and admit new member states to the organization. BRICS has established itself as a prominent entity on the global stage, whose influence in world affairs is consistently strengthening. The strategic course of their unification is aimed at planning for the future and meets the interests of the leading nations of the international community, the so-called world majority. By acting cohesively on the principles of equality, partnership support and mutual consideration, the BRICS member countries are effectively addressing the most pressing issues on the global and regional agenda. The BRICS member states are strongly in favor of the establishment of a multipolar world order that is based on international law and is fair. At the same time, they are committed to adhering to the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter. BRICS is the most important guarantor of the legal foundations of international relations and a fair world order in general. The recent expansion of the BRICS group is a significant event that enables the group to have an even greater influence in international affairs. The presented article analyzes the features of the recent expansion of BRICS and its impact on world geopolitics, taking into account the admission of new states to the organization. The distinctive features of the BRICS group activities and its role in relation to the G7 and G20 are revealed. The trends in the transition to a multipolar world are discussed. Furthermore, issues of political and economic cooperation between the different BRICS member countries are analyzed.

Objective/context: This work seeks to generate interpretations around a particular form of registration: photographic albums of leisure and vacation travel in Argentina around the mid-twentieth century. We study travel albums as an object that, through representational practices, allows for reflecting on the subjectivities and sensibilities of personal and public memory. Methodology: We use a qualitative methodology, understanding that the photographic collection gathered in an album is a cultural practice that reveals the values of those who create, preserve, and manipulate it and also of those who interpret it and give it meaning. The starting point is a limited corpus of albums from private collections, some acquired in antique shops and others lent for study by families who kept them in their collections. Creative variations may appear in them, as photographs, maps, tickets, and words coexist, traces that generate an intertext of discourses. Originality: Although there are some works related to family albums in Argentina and some approaches to travel photographs in general, the presence of specific research on travel photographic albums is fragmented, which is the subject of this article. Conclusions: The final reflections consider that travel photo albums have a powerful social and cultural relevance because, in their interpretation, other stories of the known history can be contributed, in which emotions and individual and private motivations can be perceived, as well as the creation of national, collective, and public representations.

This article analyzes the transformation in Vietnamese political thought from the concept of “state” associated with the “Son of Heaven” in Confucianism to the concept of “nation” in Nguyen Trai's ideology. The focus is on comparing Confucian thought, which regards the “state” as a part of the governance system of the “Son of Heaven,” with Nguyen Trai's perspective, who expanded the notion of “state” into an independent national ideology, affirming Dai Viet as a sovereign nation with its own identity. The study clarifies the inheritance and development of Nguyen Trai's thoughts on “state” and “nation” regarding national sovereignty, the concept of “governing the state,” the philosophy of “humanity and righteousness,” and his approach to diplomatic relations. Using historical and logical methods, the article demonstrates the evolution of Nguyen Trai's thought while illuminating his unique contributions to the construction of the national ideology of Dai Viet. The expected results affirm the timeless vision of Nguyen Trai and provide insights into the formation of the concepts of independence and sovereignty in Vietnamese history.

Landscape and territory are concepts that refer to the relationship between human societies and their environment. Despite their widespread use in various studies, these concepts have sometimes been used interchangeably in an unclear manner, leading to ambiguity in their conceptual relationship and proper application in scientific research. Considering this issue, this study aims to clarify the relationship between the two concepts by examining landscape and territory, to ensure their correct usage in future research. Accordingly, this study addresses the following questions: What interpretations of the concepts of landscape and territory exist among different studies? And based on these interpretations, what conceptual relationship can be envisioned between the concepts of landscape and territory? This study is qualitative, and the data collection included a thorough search in both domestic and international databases. The data was analyzed using content analysis methods. The findings of this study indicate that territory is inherently a landscape and can be considered a type of landscape, conceptualized under the term “territorial landscape.” However, this large-scale landscape is itself composed of a collection of smaller landscape units, whose collective perception gives the territory and its identity distinctiveness. Additionally, the “Territorial landscape” refers to a concept different from “Landscape ecology” or “Territorial planning,” and unlike them, it adopts a holistic approach, considering both the objective and subjective dimensions of the territory. It emphasizes that territory is a historical, social, economic, ethnic, cultural, and ecological, unit that gives rise to a set of essential, unifying identity-giving characteristics within a geographical area.

Industrial zones in Algeria play a crucial role in shaping the attractiveness and competitiveness of the country’s regions. The impact of these zones extends beyond economic factors, influencing the overall appeal and competitive edge of different regions. Understanding the dynamics of industrial zones is essential for comprehending Algeria’s economic landscape and its efforts to enhance regional development. The primary objective of this article is to shed light on industrial zones and their impacts on regional industrial attractiveness and competitiveness in Algeria. Firstly, it involves clarifying the concept of regional attractiveness and competitiveness in relation to their economic, environmental, and social dimensions. This leads us, secondly, to examine non-institutional actors, specifically companies, and their interactions with their regions, based on an understanding of the local area, including the effect of industrial zones on the attractiveness and competitiveness of local companies.

The text analyzes the theoretical-methodological implications of the statement: Territory is a social construction through space-time. The analysis is situated in the current context of crisis of capitalist relations on a global scale. As an ex-post reflection on research work, the author proposes: to deepen the analysis of concepts in relation to the space-time-society trialectic; update these concepts by linking them to the Capitalocene era; and apply this contextualization and these concepts to the social production of housing from a postdisciplinary, critical, decolonial approach with a focus on situated environmental problems. Historically, the Ricote Valley Region (Region of Murcia) has based its economic development on traditional agriculture based on the exploitation of water resources for the cultivation of citrus and fruit trees. Since the middle of the last century, industrial and service development, urban attraction and agricultural policies have generated a multitude of social, population and territorial transformations in this geographical area. The Ricote Valley Region has suffered an unprecedented demographic decline, making it one of the areas with the greatest depopulation problem in SE Spain. The demographic emptying of this region brings with it other associated problems, such as the abandonment of the land and traditional farming systems, with the consequent change in land use. This work aims to analyse both the demographic transition experienced by this Murcian region, the changes in land use/land cover generated and the possible relationship between both phenomena. In order to address these objectives, the methodology and sources used have been diverse. In this regard, population dynamics have been assessed by analysing the evolution experienced by different demographic indicators whose information has been obtained from the National Institute of Statistics (NIS) and the Murcia Regional Statistics Centre (MRSC). In turn, the transformations of the territorial surface have been obtained by comparing the representation of land cover/use present in the years 1990 and 2018 by means of georeferenced spatial information elaborated by the Corine Land Cover project (CLC). The results obtained show that, despite the fact that the region as a whole has experienced a positive population evolution, three of the seven municipalities that comprise it have been suffering the most significant depopulation process in their history for decades. In addition, the analysis of changes in land cover/land use revealed that 27.5% of the territory of the region has been transformed over the last 30 years, with a significant increase in permanently irrigated land. Finally, the correlation of information derived from the two proposed objectives shows a significant relationship between demographic evolution and the degree of territorial transformation suffered by each of the municipalities studied. The small Mediterranean islands, unique geographical places where coastlines and mountains converge due to volcanic genesis, are among the most threatened environments on Earth. Their marginality, which has historically led to their use as places of detention and punishment, coupled with the extreme climate and rugged geomorphology shaped by terracing practices, has resulted in the loss of systematic land management. This loss stems from the abandonment of cropland in favor of alternative activities and migrations, impacting essential ecosystem services such as the water cycle, soil fertility, and the cultural landscape. The need to counteract the land degradation in these vulnerable areas has been acknowledged for some Mediterranean small islands, including the UNESCO heritage site of Stromboli in the Aeolian Islands, Sicily, Italy—an especially captivating location due to its active volcano. The agricultural abandonment on terraces, intensively cultivated with olives groves and vineyards until the mid-20th century, has rendered the area highly fragile and susceptible to risks such as fires and soil erosion, particularly as a consequence of extreme weather events, as proven in 2022, which saw a destructive fire followed by storms. To mitigate the negative effects of hydrogeological disruptions, the implementation of integrated landscape management—managing ecosystems at the landscape level—has been proposed. Specifically, an agroforestry intervention, coupled with the restoration of dry stone walls, the shaping of soil slopes by recovering the traditional ecological knowledge (TEK), and the design of water-collecting devices incorporated with the traditional hydraulic knowledge, may be proposed as a strategic approach to minimize the soil erosion risks, adapt to climate change, and extensively restore the use of traditional agrobiodiversity to support the local economy and tourism. A pilot intervention by local stakeholders based on these principles is described as an emblematic agrobiodiversity-based landscape design project in a vulnerable area, aiming at the preservation of the cultural landscapes of the small Mediterranean islands. This article explores the territorialisation of the circular economy (CE) and analyses how the geographical and organised proximities of stakeholders facilitate the mobilisation of local resources for CE projects. It focuses on two local CE initiatives in Quebec (Canada) and France, for which 70 semi-structured interviews were conducted. The results highlight the importance of tangible and intangible territorial resources and demonstrate that geographical and organised proximities are crucial to the success of these initiatives. The relational dynamic between local players, stimulated by a sense of belonging and shared values, encourages commitment to CE. Thus, our study showcases the territorialisation of CE and emphasises the conditions enabling such activities to take root locally. I define territory as embodied, relational, processual, and imaginative: power enacted upon and through place. In the following article, I use this generative definition of territory as a lens to interrogate how memory becomes placed and bounded at Somerset Place, a historic plantation site in North Carolina. Through archival research into the negotiations between two state government agencies on the legal status of Somerset Place between 1939-1965, as well as analysis of the gendered and racialized criteria for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places, I uncover how historic space was defined against recreational space – not only in the creation of Somerset Place, but in the heritage boom of the mid-twentieth century more broadly. In addition, by understanding territory as the historicized and ongoing enactment of power upon and through place, I reveal how formal and informal territories of public memory and public space are continuously defined, negotiated, and claimed. Through a narrativization that connects heterogeneous and often undetected social lives in Bogotá, Colombia, this article charts the rhizomatic spatial crossings of continuously mobile urban trajectories, the often-unsettled forms of dwelling that they inhabit, and their capacity to make place despite the dismantling of community cohesion and the necropolitical forms of urbanity operated by racial capitalism and coloniality across Latin America – what the article refers to as relational territories, drawing on a rich scholarship on Black Geographies of the everyday and Latin American ‘territorios’. From there, the article explores how paths are being charted out of the racial-colonial maze of Latin America’s city-making, through multiple forms of ordinary resistance/re-existence that create life in the interstices of ongoing necro-politics . Ultimately, the article shows how this pluralistic repertoire mobilized from the urban margins not only points to the difficulties of emplacement for Afro-descendant dwellers in Latin American cities but also to the possibility of respatialising the urban from the decolonial relationality of Améfrica. Transdisciplinarity as a research approach goes beyond disciplines, also integrates knowledge, and aims to solve complex problems in and with society. In the pursuit to promote agricultural research for development, we discuss how a scientific community in the Colombian agricultural sector perceives the concept, importance, and use of transdisciplinary research. It is based on surveys organized in three lines: (1) culture toward practice transformation, (2) diverse and complex problems, and (3) integrating forms of knowledge, disciplines, and agents. These surveys were conducted with 200 researchers from 21 research centers from The Colombian Agricultural Research Corporation (AGROSAVIA) in Colombia. We identified a relative lack of knowledge of the concept; however, it is considered strategic for research processes in the territories. There is a need to change the process management and organization to ease and promote the integration of territorial agents and the collective construction of knowledge, delivering comprehensive solutions to the country's complex problems. Research on territorial preferences in self‐determination disputes has traditionally focused on economic and identity‐related factors. However, the impact of social costs—encompassing overall societal comfort and conviviality—on specific preferences for territorial strategies remains understudied. This paper presents a novel perspective by investigating how social costs affect such policy preferences in Catalonia, a region in Spain where secession has become a politically salient and defining feature of the political debate in recent decades. Through embedded experiments conducted within regionally representative online surveys over two time periods, we examine the relationship between social costs and preferences for territorial strategies. Our theoretical framework and empirical findings underscore the importance of considering social costs as a determinant of policy preferences, warranting further cross‐national exploration—beyond territorial debates. How can we conceptualise politicised integration at the global level? Functionalism and neo-functionalism are de-politicised, technocratic theories of integration dispensing with ideology and contestation, while post-functionalist approaches address politicisation but not supra-national integration. Drawing on comparative macro-historical theories, this article suggests a conceptualisation of politicised integration that extends exit–voice and political structuring models used at national and European levels to global integration. The replacement of territorial divisions with cleavages cutting across world regions – core–periphery and North–South divisions, civilisations and 'multiple modernities' – creates the conditions for cross-territorial dimensions of contestation, along which cross-regional membership groups link, coordinate and form bonds of solidarity. The de-territorialisation of global cleavages and the regional convergence it brings about, provide the social bases for mass politics rather than elitist policy integration. The conceptualisation of integration is political rather than technocratic, and one in which collective decision making is a matter of pluralist contestation rather than problem-solving expertise. The Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone (GTSEZ) in northwest Laos exemplifies an experimental governance model, where sovereign powers are partially privatized to drive economic development. Established in 2007 through a 99-year concession with the Kings Romans Group (KRG), a Chinese gaming company, the GTSEZ is integral to Laos's strategy of leveraging Special Economic Zones (SEZs) for modernization. This paper examines the complex dynamics between the Lao state and non-state actors within the GTSEZ, highlighting its fragmented yet pragmatic statecraft. Drawing on extensive fieldwork from 2014 to 2018, the study examines the GTSEZ's historical connections to the opium trade and its contemporary socio-political and economic roles. The zone's creation has generated both enthusiasm and criticism, particularly concerning sovereignty, local impacts, and controversial activities. The paper also discusses the broader implications of SEZs in Laos's nation-building efforts, and the GTSEZ's balance of economic openness with regulatory oversight, enhancing the understanding of experimental governance in Southeast Asia. Boundaries in contemporary art practice and education contexts are often conceived as distinctions between disciplines, inscribed through material conventions and discursive traditions. In art, a field that continually touts trans-disciplinarity and post-medium approaches, it is considered productive to occupy multiple disciplinary positions and effectively enlarge or re-draw the territory of possible creative action. This obsession with disciplinary limits reveals a language of spatial metaphors (fields, frontiers and domains) and breaching actions (breaking boundaries, expansion). In this article we highlight how the language of disciplinarity today is spatialized, and premised on notions of imperialist territoriality which are at odds with efforts to decolonize art. We speculate on other ways to approach disciplinarity without theorizing boundaries and their rupture, and re-consider discipline through: ecologies of teaching and learning, an imaginative burrowing under the surface, and working with discipline as an agential material. This article outlines the social, political, and environmental conditions under which states engage in strategic agricultural development along desert borders and what these developments achieve for the state. We focus on how national governments employ state-led agricultural reclamation, expansion, or intensification in deserts to produce and territorialize borders and discuss how these projects fall short. We apply theories of state power and legibility to analyze three military agricultural sites on the China–Kazakhstan, Egypt–Sudan, and Israel–Egypt–Gaza borders, each of which exemplifies strategic desert borderland agricultural development. These sites have geopolitical significance due to their history of territorial disputes, potential for ethnic conflict, and access to strategically important natural resources. By drawing on commonalities between these sites, we find that these developments achieve multiple goals for states, including demarcating territorial boundaries, increasing legibility of peripheral borderlands, and demonstrating control over difficult terrains. This article analyzes the dispute over the northern part of Antarctica, particularly the Antarctic Peninsula, involving Argentina, Chile, and the United Kingdom, as well as Brazil's sovereign claim, from 2012 to 2022 through the lens of classical geopolitics. It is grounded in a documentary review of treaties, state declarations, specialized literature, and press releases. Employing a qualitative and comparative methodology, the text delineates events between 1938 and 1959, explicating territorial claims and the Antarctic Treaty, which has preserved geopolitical stability until recently when new technological, environmental, and geopolitical challenges emerged. The article posits that these national territorial assertions render the notion of Antarctica as a Common Heritage of Humanity untenable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Based on the selection of three neighbourhoods in the municipality of Madrid with different characteristics: a middle-class neighbourhood, a central historic district undergoing change and a vulnerable neighbourhood, this study analyses the diversity and complexity of ties and attachments in the local space using qualitative methodology. The differential characteristics of each of these neighborhoods allow the various manifestations of the sense of belonging and the way in which residents develop meaningful connections with their local environment to be examined. Special attention is paid to the dynamics of social interaction, local support, neighbourhood solidarity, the practices through which individuals build their identity and find stability based on these ties and also to the way in which female leadership affects these processes. This analysis allows us to better understand how people, despite increasing individualisation and changes in traditional social structures, and in a context of permanent change and uncertainty, still value community ties of varying intensity that provide them with a certain sense of anchorage. Paulo Freire's thought brings the concept of 'unprecedented viable' to indicate the belief in the possible dream, the unprecedented dream that becomes reality from the liberatory praxis. From this concept, this article aims to identify the unprecedented viable through the territorialization of the Homeless Workers Movement (MTST) in São Paulo City and women's and LGBTQIAP+'s experiences in this movement. Due to the centrality of the peripheral territory for this movement's existence, MTST is defined as a socio-territorial movement. Furthermore, the category of 'body-territory' has been used to identify the transformations experienced by feminized bodies through MTST territorialization. The article is based in qualitative methodology, in which there have been used bibliography research, empirical analysis of documents and semi structured interviews with some of the movement's activists. The results point out that feminized bodies' experiences in MTST enable a deep process of humanization, in which both their bodies and the periphery are simultaneously appropriated as territories. The unprecedented viable emerges, therefore, as a collective power that announces ways of being in the world that oppose themselves to the neoliberal dominant rationality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The strategies for a Territorial Model for the Sancán Commune, located in Jipijapa Canton, Ecuador, arise in response to the challenges faced by this rural community. With an economy based on agriculture, livestock and the production of corn and yucca tortillas as the main sources of economic livelihood, the commune faces a lack of basic services such as an efficient waste collection system, limited access to potable water, sewerage and adequate road infrastructure. These problems, together with agroeconomic challenges, limit the development and well-being of its inhabitants. The methodology used to design these strategies included a territorial analysis, surveys and diagnosis based on primary and secondary sources. These data were used to identify key areas to intervene and promote balanced development. Solutions are proposed to optimize infrastructure, strengthen the local economy and ensure the efficient use of natural resources, contributing to economic self-sufficiency and environmental preservation. This article integrates the affective and intellectual dimensions of our relationship with Carlos Walter Porto-Gonçalves, regarded here as a great geographer of action, both in terms of the concrete actions of social groups and movements and the transformative action of emotions. The ways of inhabiting the Abya Ayala have been under pressure since the processes of colonization and invasion, impacting on people's ways of life in their territories. In this sense, their geo-graphies have been written as resistance, based on reappropriations and struggles rooted in geographical modes of existence, such as geographicity. The Salsipuedes-La Lacranera-San Isirodo river dwellers in the Calca Valley (Colombia), as peasants, express this re-existence in their way of dealing with the land, water and mountains. This article reflects research carried out between 2018 and 2022 with the river dwellers, analyzing their practices and way of living as an expression of hydropoetics that become hydropolitics of confrontation and struggle for land. Between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the productive Pampa cattle ranch, locally known as "estancia," underwent three developmental stages in the process of territorialization within the northwestern province of Buenos Aires. Each of these stages covers various dimensions—social, economic, political, cultural, and environmental—that collectively define the estancia's role as a territorial agent. The research employs a methodology that combines qualitative approaches through documentary analysis, along with bibliographical and cartographic review, complemented by fieldwork. This work examines into the changes and transformations within the territory, as well as housing adaptations, which are manifested in the construction of dwellings and their environs. These changes occur in a context where urban culture intertwined with the rural productive scene. Furthermore, it postulates that the inter-century territorial dynamics covering the 19th and 20th centuries serve as an enduring legacy of identity for the 21st century. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Current evolutions of the relationships between industry and the state associate explicit objectives of industrial transformations for ecological reasons, a growing interest in sovereignty-driven interventions in industry, and the linkage of industrial development to social concerns. This paper examines these evolutions by analysing the territorial inscription of industry, its practical manifestation and its consequences. We speak of styles of territorialisation of industry to characterise the articulation of three components: the construction of an industrial sector, the design and use of policy instruments, and the material consequences of spatial interventions. Using the example of the nascent green hydrogen sector in France, we contrast three styles of territorialisation, which we label 'ecosystems', 'planned infrastructures', and 'hubs'. Each of them encompasses visions of the relationships between public and private actors, faces tensions and frictions, and has inevitable exclusion effects. Starting from the beginning of the 19th century, Azerbaijan became the battlefield of two great powers, Russia and the Qajar Empire. After 30 years of intermittent war, the territory of Azerbaijan was occupied and divided by these two states. The Russo-Iranian war also resulted in the division of the historical territory of Azerbaijan into two parts. As the result, the concepts of North and South Azerbaijan were created. Since 1828, eleven Azerbaijani khanates located in the south of the Aras River fell under Qajar rule. However, in spite of this, in the 80 years of their existence, these khanates implemented an independent internal and foreign policy and had political weight in the region. The economic, political and cultural life of the khanates has been the subject of research at different times. Various sources, including foreign ones, were used in these studies. Russian sources stand out among these sources. Thus, a valuable document base has been collected in the archives of the Russian Empire, which began military expansion in the region from the beginning of the 18th century. Among these archives, the Russian state military-historical archive stands out. Since the archive specializes in the protection of military documents, the documents of military operations carried out by Russia in the Caucasus are preserved here. Documents also contain information about the Southern khanates of Azerbaijan. This information is mainly about the political, economic, geographical, cultural and social life of the khanates. The struggles of several women defending their territories and lives are marked by family tensions and reactions to the overload of care tasks and community rules according to their socially established roles. In this qualitative research, we analyze and discuss the cases of three women's collectives from different suburban and rural communities in Jalisco. Information recollected through the new ethnography approach over six years was coded and analyzed with the Atlas ti program. Results: Women's defense of their land involvement, organizing, and social mobilization actions move to an overload of care and raise adverse reactions in their community and families in response to what is seen as a transgression of women's roles. This increases dominant demobilization emotions: fear, sadness, loneliness, guilt, and shame. Through emotional management strategies linked with alternative forms of appropriation of space, starting with their bodies and sharing emotions and actions with their companions, the women in these collectives produced emotions of resistance: pride, hope, friendship, and anger, which led to reconfiguring their identities, family relationships, and roles within other place domains: bodies, family, and community. Conclusions: Women defenders, as principal carers of life, have produced and inherited a set of strategies that configure a growing "politics of the ordinary. "These strategies, through emotional management, subvert dominant emotions, feelings, and acting rules, gradually questioning and reinventing their roles and human and nonhuman relations in their most immediate contexts. The historical trajectories of quilombos put into action the first modern anti-colonial utopias, showing that through dedicated care for Mother Earth it is possible to create processes for emancipation. The action research presented in this study aimed to systematize quilombola plants and health customs related to them in the quilombola territory of Acauã, in Rio Grande do Norte, highlighting the importance of traditional and ancestral knowledge in dialogue with scientific knowledge. To this end, meetings were held with women and young quilombolas from Acauã, through focus groups, with the aim of raising medicinal plants and herbs for community use. To identify plants, the PlantNet app was used, which allows plant species to be recognized through photos of the flower, fruit or leaf. The main actors in the systematization of popular medicinal plants were young quilombolas girls, seeds for the construction of a decolonial ecology. The results present the cataloging of 22 quilombola plants present in the community of Acauã/RN, associating them with their respective scientific name, reported therapeutic utility and additional uses from scientific literature. It is noteworthy that the meeting of popular knowledge and practices in health strengthens quilombola memory and culture. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ylê Axé Òpó Omim is the oldest candomblé terreiro in continuous operation in Londrina, within Paraná state, established 35 years ago in the outskirts of this city. In this article, I seek a decolonial xirê, based on a methodological proposal of ancestral cartography, through weekly engagement over four months with the photographic collection of the terreiro. Throughout this journey, it is concluded that memory, fabulation, and photography serve as epistemological tools in recognizing this territory as a space of social and political confrontations, a struggle for racial and gender equality, and for better health, education, and housing conditions for the predominantly poor and black peripheral community. Mãe Omin has been at the forefront of all these struggles, leading as a political, social, and hierarchical figure of Iyalorixá, with ancestral and maternal wisdom. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The leadership of the People's Republic of China has crafted several creative territorialization strategies designed to consolidate the administrative control and extend the geopolitical influence of its ruling Chinese Communist Party. This article focuses one such strategy aimed at three distinct polities – Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan – by examining the bureaucratic establishment of an imaginary regional formation that spans them, and its suture to the "One Country, Two Systems" formulation of variegated sovereignty. I propose that this suture constitutes a novel geopolitical strategy of simulation in the service of territorial expansion. Material devices to implement the strategy include mobility and residence permits, while discursive tactics include the reattribution of statements by past leaders to match the new imaginary formation. However, rather than forging cultural unity and compelling territorial unification, the intensification of the simulation corresponded with a spike in self-determination sentiment and demonstrations in both Hong Kong and Taiwan. This case shows that by fabricating an imaginary regional formation, a state can facilitate the multiplication of different bordering schemes between and within territories it effectively administers, while at the same time press irredentist claims against a different and de facto independent state, with explosive outcomes. Cette étude présente une réflexion sur l'habitation d'un lieu et la constitution d'un « Soi territorial », dans le contexte de la vie et du travail « paysan ». L'hypothèse est alors posée d'une possible « psychopathologie de la (dé-) territorialisation », selon laquelle un « non-lieu », générateur de non-sens, peut se trouver impliqué dans une dynamique suicidaire en lien spécifique avec la dimension territoriale du Soi et l'habitation impossible d'un lieu. Les aspects cliniques et psychopathologiques sont appréhendés dans la perspective du lien entre certains « paysans de tradition » et leur lieu de vie, au regard de l'empreinte réciproque entre psychisme et territoire. Cette réflexion exploratoire permet d'orienter des recherches cliniques auprès d'agriculteurs en souffrance en marge des « troubles psycho-sociaux » habituellement recensés. Les limitations et impasses induites par des processus dissociatifs, ou mélancoliques sont rapportés soit à une défaillance de la Présence, compromettant la construction d'un monde habitable, c'est-à-dire territorialisable, soit à l'hostilité d'un monde réfractaire à la dynamique d'un processus de territorialisation, et donc inapte à permettre d'y séjourner. Ces considérations ouvrent une perspective originale de recherches qualitatives visant à appréhender les rapports entre altération des assises territoriales du Soi et intentionnalité suicidaire. This study presents a reflection on the inhabitation of a place and the constitution of a territorial Self,' in the context of 'country' life and work. The hypothesis is then put forward of a possible 'psychopathology of (de-)territorialization,' according to which a 'non-place,' generator of meaninglessness, may be involved in a suicidal dynamics specifically linked to the territorial dimension of the Self and the impossible inhabitation of a place. The clinical and psychopathological aspects are examined from the perspective of the link between certain 'traditional farmers' and the place where they live, with regard to the reciprocal imprint between psyche and territory. This exploratory study will provide guidance for clinical research into the suffering of farmers who fall outside the scope of commonly identified 'psycho-social disorders.' The limitations and impasses induced by dissociative or melancholic processes are related either to a failure of Presence, compromising the construction of a habitable world, i.e. one that can be territorialized, or to the hostility of a world that is resistant to the dynamics of a territorialization process, and therefore unfit to allow us to dwell in it. These considerations open up an original perspective for qualitative research aimed at understanding the relationships between alteration of the territorial foundations of the Self and suicidal intentionality. This article addresses the question of how the recent political context of Brazil shapes violations of various kinds against Quilombola communities in Brazil. Using data from online news sources, we track violations from 2016 to 2020 related to land disputes, physical attacks and threats, and environmental issues. We show that, despite the legal rights accorded to these communities since the 1988 constitutional reform and subsequent processes of democratisation, vested interests in the agricultural lobby and a later authoritarian turn, especially after 2016, led to a dismantling of social and economic policies for Quilombos. The violations suffered by these communities result from the denial of their collective identities as constitutional subjects and the non-recognition of their dignity, which are the product of historical processes of inferiorisation that have treated some people as non-subjects or not eligible to bear rights, based on colonial classifications but still present in the dominant society. Geography is a science, which has been through epistemological revolutions, currently positioning itself in the themes of socio-environmental problems, due to its integrating nature in these issues. Being one of the main problems, changes in land use, which affect many natural landscapes around the world, generating a series of environmental problems and the progressive depletion of its natural resources, and in many cases their complete loss. Therefore, the objective of this research is to make a synthesis of the concepts that structure the GTP (Geosystem-Territory-Landscape) model, as well to provide a methodological approach, based on this model, for future landscape studies, as sources of essential information in planning and territorial management of natural resources. The objective of this proposal is to build a typology that allows analyzing the historical violence inflicted on P'urhépecha women in Cherán and how they are linked to the disputes present in the territory, especially over the appropriation of the forest.
