Abstract

ADigitalelectronicCoach(eCoach)appwasbuiltandevaluateddur- ing the Covid-19 pandemic in The Netherlands. Its aim was to provide support for individuals that had to either quarantine or self-isolate after a positive corona test or an indication of a heightened risk of infection. The coach (“IsolationCoach”), its value and uses were evaluated in 29 semi-structured interviews with individu- als who had quarantined or isolated themselves or were part of the general Dutch public. Three main findings emerge. First, participants found value in a digital coach that would help them comply with quarantine or isolation instructions and provided information on the practical challenges of organizing their quarantine or isolation. Second, the usage of the app, which gradually and conditionally provides relevant information as opposed to conventional paper pamphlets/email, was greatly appreciated. Third, participants experienced a need for mental sup- port during their period of isolation or quarantine, and this could at least partially be filled by the eCoach, which provided emotional support through a Socratic method styled form of self-reflection. It was beneficial that the app was imple- mented rapidly within weeks using a ready-to-use platform and that its content was assessed by experts from various health-related disciplines prior to rollout. Yet, for large-scale implementation, an integrated vision and digital strategy is needed to align forms of support by the health authorities.

Abstract

Impreciseness and uncertainty are the fabrics that make life interesting. For decades, human beings have developed strategies to cope with uncertainties and automate them. In personnel selection for the I.T. field, selectors often find it very difficult to select candidates by going through a set of resumes containing similar kinds of skills. Hence the selection task becomes a fuzzy decision making with the uncertainty involved. A combination of fuzzy clustering and Interval Type-2 fuzzy sets (IT2FS) is proposed in such scenarios. An experiment is conducted over a resume dataset containing fifteen hundred resumes for a particular job description. Firstly, Fuzzy C-means clustering (FCM) is applied for selective clustering, while decision-making under uncertainty is carried through IT2FS. The candidates in the selected cluster are given a score for ranking as per the skillset criteria. The final decision for shortlisting the resumes is carried through IT2FS. The model shows an average accuracy of 88.2% with an F1-score of 0.76 compared to (K-means + IT2FS) model with an F1-score of 0.72. Abstract

In this paper the effect of a music therapy is modeled based on a Network-Oriented Modeling approach. Music therapy is a mindfulness therapy used since many years ago. The presented adaptive temporal-causal network model addresses music therapy for a person who in a first phase develops an extreme stressful emotion due to an ongoing stressful event. In a second phase, music therapy is considered to reduce the stress. This happens by playing memorable music first and then singing on that music. The music and the singing have a direct relaxing effect on the body. Hebbian learning is incorporated to increase the effect of the therapy.

Abstract

In this paper we implemented an unobtrusive and non-invasive method to measure pulse rate and heart rate variability. A Ballistocardiography technique has been used which describes ballistic force applied by heart on blood vessels. Ballistocardiography depicts repetitive motion in human body against blood flow because of the ballistic force. In this process videos of human head have been recorded and feature points using Lucas - Kanade point tracker are calculated. After filtering the resultant signal to remove noise (unwanted signals) trajectories are decomposed into elementary components. Component that best corresponds to pulse frequency is selected. Detected peaks correspond to beats in the signal and hence the Heart Rate Variability is calculated. The algorithm was tested with many videos of 12 subjects (10 males and 2 females) with variations in skin color, sex, subject's state. We found that user state and activities affect Heart Rate Variability which can be calculated through our algorithm. It is concluded that extensive research and development of this unobtrusive and non-invasive technique can yield new tools for various online and adaptive HCI applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
