O fruto é suscetível a danos mecânicos e biológicos no estado maduro, e seu aroma é desagradável para algumas pessoas, quando em espaços fechados. O processo de desidratação pode ser uma alternativa para a exploração deste produto, e a relação entre a umidade e a atividade de água fornece informações úteis para seu processamento e armazenamento. O objetivo do trabalho foi determinar as propriedades termodinâmicas de sorção da água em frutos de jaca (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.), em função do conteúdo de umidade. Para isto, foram determinadas as isotermas de dessorção das diferentes partes da jaca (polpa, pedúnculo, mesocarpo, cascas e sementes) em quatro temperaturas (313.15, 323.15, 333.15 e 343.15 K) na faixa de atividade de água de 0,020-0,753, através do método gravimétrico estático. Modelos teóricos e empíricos foram usados para modelar as isotermas de dessorção. A solução analítica da equação de Clausius-Clapeyron foi empregada para calcular o calor isostérico de sorção, a entropia diferencial e a energia livre de Gibbs' através dos modelos de Guggenhein-Anderson-de Boer e Oswin, considerando o efeito da temperatura sob o equilíbrio higroscópico. The Jackfruit tree is one of the most significant trees in tropical home gardens and perhaps the most widespread and useful tree in the important genus Artocarpus. The fruit is susceptible to mechanical and biological damage in the mature state, and some people find the aroma of the fruit objectionable, particularly in confined spaces. The dehydration process could be an alternative for the exploitation of this product, and the relationship between moisture content and water activity provides useful information for its processing and storage. The aim of this study was to determine the thermodynamic properties of the water sorption of jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.) as a function of moisture content. Desorption isotherms of the different parts of the jackfruit (pulp, peduncle, mesocarp, peel, and seed) were determined at four different temperatures (313.15, 323.15, 333.15, and 343.15 K) in a water activity range of 0.02-0.753 using the static gravimetric method. Theoretical and empirical models were used to model the desorption isotherms. An analytical solution of the Clausius-Clapeyron equation was proposed to calculate the isosteric heat of sorption, the differential entropy, and Gibbs' free energy using the Guggenhein-Anderson-de Boer and Oswin models considering the effect of temperature on the hygroscopic equilibrium. This papers addresses the connection between two classical models of phase transition phenomena describing different stages of the growth of clusters. The Becker-D��ring model (BD) describes discrete-sized clusters through an infinite set of ordinary differential equations. The Lifshitz-Slyozov equation (LS) is a transport partial differential equation on the continuous half-line $x\in (0,+\infty)$. We introduce a scaling parameter $\varepsilon>0$, which accounts for the grid size of the state space in the BD model, and recover the LS model in the limit $\varepsilon\to 0$. The connection has been already proven in the context of outgoing characteristic at the boundary $x=0$ for the LS model, when small clusters tend to shrink. The main novelty of this work resides in a new estimate on the growth of small clusters, which behave at a fast time scale. Foram selecionadas 12 propriedades das quais se coletaram amostras de 262 animais, sendo 167 caprinos e 95 ovinos. Realizou-se a pesquisa de anticorpos anti-Toxoplasma gondii, utilizando-se a técnica da Imunofluorescência Indireta (RIFI). Foram aplicados questionários investigativos nas propriedades visitadas para identificar os fatores de risco associados à infecção. em 100% das propriedades foram encontrados animais soropositivos. Para T. gondii, das 167 amostras de soro caprino analisadas, 31,7% foram positivas, enquanto que na espécie ovina, das 95 amostras, 16,9% foram positivas. A hidroxiapatita (HA, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) que apresenta semelhança química e estrutural com a fase mineral dos ossos e dos dentes, é biocompatível e osteocondutiva, e tem excelente afinidade química e biológica com os tecidos ósseos. Este trabalho teve como objetivo desenvolver biocerâmicas porosas HA para utilização como scaffold para regeneração óssea empregando-se a técnica de réplica da esponja polimérica. A pasta biocerâmica de HA foi obtida por via úmida utilizando hidróxido de cálcio [Ca(OH)2] e ácido fosfórico (H3PO4) e impregnada em esponjas de poliuretano com diferentes densidades. Tratamento térmico a 600°C por 1h foi realizado para eliminação da esponja seguido da sinterização a 1100°C por 2 horas. Os scaffolds apresentaram a HA como fase majoritária, elevada porosidade (> 70%) e poros com tamanhos variando na ordem de macro (>100μm) e microporosidade (1-20μm), sendo estes fatores adequados para a aplicação como scaffolds para regeneração óssea. Porous bioceramics have important biomedical applications such as bone defect fillers and tissue engineering scaffolds. The hydroxyapatite (HA, Ca10 (Po4)6(OH)2) shows resemblance to the mineral phase of bone and teeth, it is biocompatible and osteoconductive, and has excellent chemical and biological affinity to bone tissue. The aim of this work is to develop HA porous bioceramics for bone regeneration using the replica of the polymeric sponge technique. The HA slurry bioceramic was obtained by wet method using by the calcium hydroxide [Ca (OH) 2] and phosphoric acid (H3PO4) and impregnated polyurethane sponges with different densities. Heat treatment at 600 ° C for 1h was accomplished to eliminate the sponge followed by sintering at 1100 ° C for 2 hours. The scaffolds showed HA as major phase, high porosity (> 70%) and pores with sizes ranging in the order of macro (> 100μm) and microporosity (1-20μm), and these factors are suitable for application as scaffolds for bone regeneration. Foram usadas 12 parcelas de 10 x 10 m distribuídas sistematicamente em cada área de estudo. em cada parcela foram distribuídas aleatoriamente quatro subparcelas de 0,5 m x 0,5 m. Duas subparcelas foram usadas para coletar a serapilheira e duas para coletar o solo a 0-5 cm de profundidade. A amostragem foi realizada em setembro de 2001, nos remanescentes naturais e no povoamento de eucalipto e, em setembro de 2002, nas áreas reflorestadas. As amostras foram acondicionadas em vasos de plástico e incubadas com irrigações periódicas para a germinação das sementes por um período de sete meses, em dois ambientes de casa de vegetação: um a 100% de luz solar e outro sob tela com 70% de redução de luz solar. Na composição do banco de sementes de todas as áreas amostradas, houve predominância de espécies pioneiras dos primeiros estádios de sucessão. As espécies arbóreas mais importantes foram Aloysia virgata e Cecropia hololeuca. Os reflorestamentos com espécies nativas proporcionaram um banco de sementes com maior diversidade de espécies arbóreas nativas do que o povoamento de eucalipto. Este estudo indicou que a similaridade entre as florestas plantadas e as nativas deverá aumentar ao longo do tempo. The objective of this study was to evaluate qualitative and quantitatively the seed bank of two natural forest remainders, one Eucalyptus robusta plantation and three reforestation areas with native species, located in a riparian area of Mogi-Guaçu River floodplain, in Luiz Antonio County (21°31´S and 47°55´W), São Paulo State, Brazil. The evaluation was carried out in 12 plots of 10 x 10 m systematically distributed in each area. Four subplots of 0.5 m x 0.5 m were randomly distributed in each plot. Two subplots were used to evaluate the seed bank in the litter and two in the soil sample at the 0 - 5 cm depth. The sampling was accomplished in September 2001 in the natural forest remainders and in the eucalyptus plantation and, in September 2002, in the reforested areas. The soil and the litter were conditioned in plastic pots, and incubated with periodic irrigations for the seed germination during seven months, in two greenhouse environment conditions: one at 100% sunlight and the other, under a screen that provides a 70% sunlight reduction. In the composition of all sample area seed banks, there was a predomination of pioneer species at the early successional stages. The most important arboreal species were Aloysia virgata and Cecropia hololeuca. The reforestation with native species provided a seed bank with a greater diversity of native arboreal species than the eucalyptus plantation. The present study indicates that the similarity between the planted and natural forest should be enhanced over the time. Para melhor entendimento da dinâmica de absorção de nutrientes e o desenvolvimento dessa frutífera avaliaram-se teores foliares de Cu, Fe, Mn e Zn, em seis progênies de aceroleira no período de dezembro de 1999 a outubro de 2000. O estudo foi conduzido na Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (EMBRAPA) Agroindústria Tropical, em Pacajus, e envolveu 6 progênies (P52, P66, P78, P91, P93 e P97) e 6 épocas de amostragem das folhas (dezembro, fevereiro, abril, junho, agosto e outubro de 2000). A variação sazonal foi confirmada para os teores de Cu, Fe, Mn e Zn nas folhas, enquanto o Zn não sofreu alteração significativa nas progênies consideradas pela pesquisa. Os teores de Cu foram superiores em fevereiro, e os de Fe e Mn em agosto. As progênies apresentaram habilidade diferenciada na manutenção das concentrações de Cu, Mn e Zn nas folhas. A melhor época para amostragem de folhas e diagnóstico do estado nutricional foi em outubro, início do florescimento das aceroleiras, quando os teores de Cu, Fe, Mn e Zn devem ser superiores a 3, 125, 80 e 15 mg/kg. For better acquaintance of the dynamics or absorption and the of this plant, foliar amount of Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn was evaluated in six lineages of acerola plant from December,1999 to October,2000. Field experiments were carried out at the Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (EMBRAPA) Tropical Agroindustry, Pacajus experimental field, with 6 lineages (P52, P66, P78, P91, P93 and P97) and 6-leaf-sampling (December, February, April, June, August and October of 2000). The seasonal variation was confirmed in leaves for amounts of Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn. The amount of Zn did not suffer significant alteration in the lineages considered for the research. The amount of Cu was higher in February, while Fe and Mn in August. The lineages presented different abilities to keep Cu, Mn and Zn concentrations in leaves. For diagnosis of the plant nutritional state, the best time for leaf sampling was at the beginning of the bloom, during October, when the amount of Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn reached the contends of than 3, 125, 80 and 15 mg/kg. Loss in the supply chain of small ruminants owing to condemnations of carcasses in the abattoirs and slaughterhouses is common in northeastern Brazil. This study aims to identify bacterial agents, including Mycobacterium spp., in the abscesses found in the postmortem analysis of the carcasses of sheep and goats bred in northeastern Brazil. Our analysis involved 679 goats and 1,838 sheep carcasses. Abscess samples were extracted and inoculated on blood agar and Lowenstein Jensen with pyruvate or glycerol for bacterial isolation. We then performed polymerase chain reaction of the hps 65 gene; samples positive for Mycobacterium spp. were subjected to DNA sequencing. Relative frequencies of abscesses in goats and sheep were 5.44 and 3.26%, respectively. Microbiological analysis revealed 87.7% bacterial growth in the inoculated samples. Among these, Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosisrepresented 67.7% of the isolates. We observed 1.9% mycobacteria growth in the abscess samples inoculated on Lowenstein-Jensen medium. PCR of DNA extracted from abscesses samples showed amplification of 0.9% of samples. After sequencing, Mycobacterium spp. isolate was identified as M. novocastrense. C. pseudotuberculosis was the main agent responsible for the formation of abscesses in the examined animals, and we did not identify any species of the M. tuberculosis complex in the examined small ruminants.

A total of 1,043 dogs were tested, and the serological diagnoses of Chagas disease (CD) and canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL) was performed by the indirect fluorescent antibody test (IFAT). Animals that tested seropositive for both diseases (by IFAT) were further subjected to ELISA. Of the 1,043 dogs 81 (7.8%; 95% CI = 6.1-9.4%) tested seropositive for Leishmania spp., while 83 were seropositive for T. cruzi (7.9%; 95% CI = 6.3-9.6%). Simultaneous serological reactions were detected in 49 animals (4.6%; 95% CI= 3.6-6.2%). Semi-domiciled housing (OR = 2.044), free housing (OR = 4.151), and soil (OR = 3.425) and soil/cement (OR = 3.065) environmental conditions were identified as risk factors for CVL seropositivity. The risk factors identified for CD seropositivity were semi-domiciled (OR = 2.353) or free housing (OR = 3.454), and contact with bovine (OR = 2.015). This study revealed the presence of dogs in the Paraíba State seropositive for CVL and CD, suggesting the need for revisiting and intensification of disease control measures through constant monitoring of the canine population. Motivated by nucleation and molecular aggregation in physical, chemical and biological settings, we present an extension to a thorough analysis of the stochastic self-assembly of a fixed number of identical particles in a finite volume. We study the statistic of times it requires for maximal clusters to be completed, starting from a pure-monomeric particle configuration. For finite volume, we extend previous analytical approaches to the case of arbitrary size-dependent aggregation and fragmentation kinetic rates. For larger volume, we develop a scaling framework to study the behavior of the first assembly time as a function of the total quantity of particles. We find that the mean time to first completion of a maximum-sized cluster may have surprisingly a very weak dependency on the total number of particles. We highlight how the higher statistic (variance, distribution) of the first passage time may still help to infer key parameters (such as the size of the maximum cluster) from data. And last but not least, we present a framework to quantify the formation of cluster of macroscopic size, whose formation is (asymptotically) very unlikely and occurs as a large deviation phenomenon from the mean-field limit. We argue that this framework is suitable to describe phase transition phenomena, as inherent infrequent stochastic processes, in contrast to classical nucleation theory., 15 pages, 9 figures

Foram utilizados 21 cabritos, pesando 15 kg de PV, distribuídos em três tratamentos (0, 30 e 60% de restrição). O consumo dos animais do tratamento 0% de restrição determinavam o consumo dos animais dos tratamentos 30 e 60% de restrição. Quando os animais do nível de restrição 0% atingiam 25 kg, estes juntamente com seus pares foram submetidos a jejum de sólido de 24 h e de líquido de 16 h. O abate ocorreu mediante descarga elétrica, seguido de sangria e retirada dos órgãos. Os ganhos de peso foram de 211,03, 126,15 e 11,71g/dia; a eficiência alimentar de 0,20, 0,18 e de 0,03; os pesos de abate de 25,44, 20,91 e 15,82kg para os tratamentos 0, 30 e 60% de restrição, respectivamente. O rendimento de carcaça quente, de carcaça fria e biológico não foram influenciados pela restrição alimentar. Somente a proporção da paleta e a do lombo foram influenciados pela restrição alimentar, com aumento linear do rendimento da paleta e decréscimo linear do rendimento do lombo. Houve efeito da restrição na redução do rendimento de gordura e aumento da proporção de osso. A restrição alimentar em níveis moderados, permitiu a obtenção de carcaças de boa qualidade, com bom rendimento, elevada proporção de músculo e baixa participação de gordura e, dependendo da relação custo:benefício, pode tornar-se boa alternativa para o produtor. To evaluate the effect of different levels of feed restriction on carcass traits, twenty-one F1-Boer x Saanen goats weighting 15 kg LW were allocated to one of the three treatments (0, 30 and 60% restriction). The feed intake for the 0% restriction treatment animals determined the intake for the animals in the 30 and 60% restriction treatment. When animals from 0% of feed restriction reached 25 kg of LW, they and their pair-feeding were submitted to a feed and water fasting during 24 h and 16 h, respectively. After fasting, animals were slaughtered by electric discharged. In addition, bleeding and organs removing were performed. The weight gain (g/day) were 211,03, 126,15 and 11,71; the feed efficiency was 0,20, 0,18 and 0,03; the slaughtering weight (kg) were 25,44, 20,91 and 15,82 for 0, 30 e 60% restriction treatment, respectively. Warn carcass, cold carcass and biological yields were no affected by feed restriction. Only, shoulder and loin proportions were affected by feed restriction with a linear increase of shoulder yield and a linear decrease of loin yield. Feed restriction reduced fat yield and increased bone proportion. Moderate levels of feed restriction permitted to produce goat carcasses with good quality and yield, as well as high muscle proportion and low fat content. Depends on the cost: benefit ratio feed restriction should be consider an adequate alternative for meat goat producer. Foram utilizados 30 cordeiros com peso vivo (PV) médio inicial de 15 kg e 70 dias de idade. Seis cordeiros foram abatidos aos 15 kg, para determinação da composição corporal inicial (animais-referência) pela metodologia do abate comparativo; seis foram abatidos aos 20 kg (abate intermediário) e os demais distribuídos em seis grupos de três animais (um para cada dieta), de acordo com as relações volumoso(V):concentrado(C): 1) 40V:60C; 2) 55V:45C; e 3) 70V:30C. Os animais, em cada grupo, foram abatidos quando o cordeiro que recebia a dieta com maior teor de concentrado atingiu 25 kg de PV. A composição corporal variou de 14,33 a 12,42 g de Ca; 8,12 a 7,15 g de P; 0,47 a 0,46 g de Mg; 1,60 a 1,40 g de Na e de 2,30 a 2,23 g de K por kg de peso de corpo vazio. As exigências líquidas de ganho variaram de 13,54 a 11,74 mg de Ca; 7,96 a 7,02 mg de P; 0,57 a 0,55 mg de Mg; 1,54 a 1,35 mg de Na e de 2,75 a 2,68 mg de K por g de ganho de PV. As exigências dietéticas diárias de macrominerais para cordeiros dos 15 aos 25 kg de PV, ganhando 100 g/dia, variaram de 2,76 a 3,12 g de Ca; 1,91 a 2,95 de g de P; 0,60 a 0,77 g de Mg; 0,60 a 0,86 g de Na e de 1,51 a 2,63 g de K. The objective of this trial was to determine the body composition and nutritional requirements of macrominerals for Morada Nova sheep. Thirty lambs averaging 15 kg of initial body weight (BW) and 70 days of age were used in this study. Six lambs (reference-animals) were slaughtered with 15 kg of BW to determine the initial body composition using the comparative slaughter methodology; six other lambs were slaughtered with 20 kg of BW (intermediary slaughter) and the remaining 18 lambs were distributed to six groups of three animals (one lamb for each treatment) and received diets with the following forage(F):concentrate(C) ratio: 1) 40F:60C; 2) 55F:45C; and 3) 70F:30C. Animals from each group were slaughtered when the lamb that had been fed the diet with the highest concentrate level reached 25 kg of BW. Para tanto, utilizaram-se trinta animais distribuídos em dois grupos de igual número, denominados GP e GS. Os animais do GP receberam propofol (10mg kg-1) por via intravenosa para intubação orotraqueal, e imediatamente após, administrou-se continuamente, por meio de bomba de infusão, propofol (0,55 ± 0,15mg kg-1 min-1). Decorridos 30 minutos, foi colhido liquor na cisterna magna e o meio de contraste iohexol foi injetado. No GS empregou-se a mesma metodologia adotada para o GP, utilizando indução anestésica pela administração de sevofluorano a 2,5 CAM, com o uso de máscara naso-oral vedada e manutenção com 1,5 CAM. To detect WNV in Brazil, we performed a serological survey of horses from different regions of Brazil using recombinant peptides from domain III of WNV. Positive samples were validated with the neutralisation test. Our results showed that of 79 ELISA-positive horses, nine expressed WNV-specific neutralising antibodies. Eight of the infected horses were from the state of Mato Grosso do Sul and one was from the state of Paraiba. Our results provide additional evidence for the emergence of WNV in Brazil and for its circulation in multiple regions of the country. Os resultados apontaram que o rendimento da espermatogênese da cutia dos nove aos quatorze meses de idade não chegou a um ponto de estabilização. O coeficiente de eficiência de mitoses espermatogoniais não aumentou com a idade. O rendimento meiótico, o rendimento geral da espermatogênese e o índice de células de Sertoli mostraram variações numéricas em função da idade, entretanto, não detectadas estatisticamente. This study has as objective to evaluate the spermatogenesis yield of Agoutis rised in captivity, through the rates found between cellular types of the seminiferous epithelium. The results showed that the spermatogenesis yield of the Agoutis since 9 to 14 months of age did not reach the stabilization point. The coefficient of efficiency of the spermatogonium mitoses, did not increase with the age. The meiotic yield, usual spermatogenesis yield and the Sertoli cells index didn't showed numeric variation at function of the age, however, it was not detected by statistic data. Contrary to previous studies, we use a weak topology that includes the boundary of the state space, allowing us to rigorously derive a boundary value for the Lifshitz-Slyozov model. The specimen is common throughout Brazil inhabiting open areas, tolerating disturbed areas very well, but avoiding dense forests. The trematodes are common parasites in the intestines of birds of prey, with scant notice of pathogenic infections. However, severe infections of trematodes Strigeidae family have been previously reported as a cause of anemia, diarrhea, enteritis, weight loss and death. This paper aims to report the occurrence of infection in S. Falconis in B. magnirostris diagnosed by post mortem examination. Case: The specimen of B. magnirostris, male, young was sent for necropsy at the Laboratory of Veterinary Pathology, Federal Rural University of Semi-Arid (UFERSA), Mossoró-RN, Brazil. With a history of apathy, anorexia, diarrhea and death in one course of 24 h. The free bird life and even puppy had been captured for training and practice of falconry shortly before the clinical manifestation of infection (time of captivity uninformed). On physical examination ruffled feathers, cachexia and pallor of skeletal muscle was observed. At necropsy there was severe enteritis with petechiae and accumulation of liquid contents into the duodenum. Fifty-two trematodes were found set in duodenal mucosa. The other organs and structures showed no changes. Fragments of all organs were harvested, fixed in 10% formalin buffered, routinely processed for histopathology and stained with hematoxylin and eosin (HE). Parasites were carefully collected, washed in saline, fixed, processed and identified according to the morphology and taxonomy. Histologically, the lesions were restricted to the duodenum and were characterized by melting, severe atrophy and necrosis of the epithelial cells of the intestinal villi; inflammatory infiltrate (consisting of lymphocytes, plasma cells and eosinophils) in the lamina propria, in addition to trematodes infiltrated the mucosa and lamina propria. These were 60-80 mm in diameter, consisted of parenchymal body enclosed by the integument. In some cross sections of the parasite was possible to observe the presence of cecum, testis and uterus, with some variations between sections; there were also yellowish eggs and coated with a delicate membrane. The trematodes contain approximately 1 mm in length and used as morphology and taxonomy has been identified as S. Falconis. Discussion: S. Falconis is a trematode intestinal parasite of birds of prey, with reports of its occurrence in Europe, North America and Central. In neotropical regions is described the occurrence of the subspecies S. Falconis brasiliana. Although the absence of clinical signs is a common pattern, parasitism by trematodes may become evident, common to captivity stress conditions, and thus infections, even for low pathogenic parasites can cause diarrhea, anorexia, weight loss and death, as reported in this paper. A factor that possibly contributed to the scant notice is its small size, which makes the observation of this parasite in analysis of necropsy in non-pathological conditions and also not familiar with the technical laboratories in the morphological shape of the eggs, which creates difficulty in finding the parasite in parasitological analysis in captive animals. Despite being considered poorly pathogenic trematodes, epidemiologically, the presence of the parasite should be considered a health risk to free-living predators, newly captive in parks, zoos, veterinary hospitals, triage center for wildlife and creators, as they may express pathogenicity in immunosuppressed animals. This work contributes to recording the presence S. falconis parasitizing the duodenal mucosa of B. magnirostris in Brazil. Animal agglomerations at commercial events such as trade fairs represent an important facilitator in infectious disease transmission. Thus, it is crucial to understand the epidemiology of infectious diseases in small ruminants. The objective of this study was to examine lentiviral presence in goats and sheep traded at the animal fair of Tabira city (Sertão region of Pernambuco) and identify possible risk factors associated with infection. We collected serum samples from 233 crossbred goats and 119 crossbred sheep, belonging to 12 breeders, at the Tabira livestock fair from November 2014 to June 2015. An epidemiological questionnaire was used to analyze the risk factors. Agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID) and western blotting (WB) were performed to diagnose small ruminant lentivirus (SRLV) infection. In the AGID test, we used maedi-visna virus (MVV) antigens for sheep and caprine arthritis/encephalitis virus (strain Cork) (CAEV-Co) antigen for goats. The WB analysis used CAEV-Co antigen for both species. Variables from the questionnaire were analyzed with univariate and multivariate statistics. One seropositive goat but no sheep was identified via AGID. According to the WB results, 15/233 goats (6.44%; CI95% = 3.94 - 10.35%) and 8/119 sheep (6.72%; CI95% = 3.45 - 12.71%) were seropositive, totaling 23/352 reactive animals (6.53%; CI95% = 4.39 - 9.61%) from 12 herds. Annual vermifugation of the animals was a significant risk factor (odds ratio = 5.9; CI95% = 1.7-19.8; p = 0.04) for disease in goats, but no variables associated with infection risks were identified in sheep. We concluded that SRLV was present in goats and sheep at the animal fair. Western blots were more sensitive than AGID for SRLV diagnosis. Practices aiming to improve sanitary management may reduce the risk of infection in goats. All studied herds included animals identified as seropositive for SRLV. Therefore, we recommend adopting measures that increase disease diagnosis while intensifying traffic control and surveillance of animal agglomerations. [Caracterização epidemiológica e fatores de risco associados às lentiviroses em pequenos ruminantes comercializados em feira de animais no Sertão de Pernambuco, semiárido brasileiro]. Resumo: Aglomerações de animais em eventos comerciais do tipo feiras de negócios representam um importante elo na transmissão de doenças infecciosas, resultando na importância do conhecimento acerca da epidemiologia das doenças de pequenos ruminantes. Desta forma, o objetivo desse estudo foi determinar a presença das lentiviroses em caprinos e ovinos comercializados na feira de animais da cidade de Tabira, Sertão de Pernambuco, bem como a identificação de possíveis fatores de risco associados à enfermidade. Foram coletadas amostras de soro de 233 caprinos e 119 ovinos, sem raça definida, pertencentes a doze proprietários, na feira de animais vivos do município no período de novembro de 2014 a junho de 2015. Foi aplicado questionário epidemiológico para análise dos fatores de risco. O diagnóstico da infecção por Lentivirus de Pequenos Ruminantes (LVPR) nas espécies foi realizado pela Imunodifusão em ágar-gel (IDGA) e Western Blotting (WB). Na IDGA foram utilizados antígenos de Vírus Maedivisna (MVV) para ovinos e de vírus da Artrite-Encefalite Caprina (CAEV), cepa CAEV- Cork para caprinos, e no WB foi utilizado a cepa CAEV- Cork como antígeno para ambas espécies. As variáveis obtidas no questionário foram submetidas a análises estatísticas univariada e multivariada. Pela técnica de IDGA foi possível identificar um caprino soropositivo. Não foi detectada positividade nos ovinos. No WB 15/233 (6,44%; IC95% = 3,94 ? 10,35%) caprinos e 8/119 (6,72%; IC95% = 3,45 ? 12,71%) ovinos foram soropositivos, totalizando 23/352 (6,53%; IC95% = 4,39 ? 9,61%) animais reagentes. Os doze rebanhos estudados apresentaram animais soropositivos. Vermifugar os animais anualmente (odds ratio = 5,9; IC 95% = 1,7 ? 19,8; p = 0,04) foi identificado como fator de risco para enfermidade em caprinos. Não foram identificadas variáveis associadas ao risco de infecção em ovinos. Concluiu-se que os LVPR estão presentes em caprinos e ovinos comercializados na feira de animais. A técnica de WB apresentou maior sensibilidade que a IDGA para diagnóstico dos LVPR. Melhorias nas práticas de manejo sanitário podem reduzir o risco de infecção nos caprinos. Todos os rebanhos estudados apresentaram animais soropositivos para lentiviroses de pequenos ruminantes (SRLV), sendo recomendado adotar medidas que possibilitem aumentar o diagnóstico da doença e intensificar o controle de trânsito e fiscalização das aglomerações animais. Genetic studies are restricted to a small number of isolates and based on molecular markers that evolve too slowly to resolve the relationships between American and West African populations and, thus, unable us to uncover the recent history of T. vivax in the New World.Methods: T. vivax genetic diversity, population structure and the source of outbreaks was investigated through the microsatellite multiloci (7 loci) genotype (MLGs) analysis in South America (47isolates from Brazil, Venezuela and French Guiana) and West Africa (12 isolates from The Gambia, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Benin and Nigeria). Relationships among MLGs were explored using phylogenetic, principal component and STRUCTURE analyses.Results: Although closely phylogenetically related, for the first time, genetic differences were detected between T. vivax isolates from South America (11 genotypes/47 isolates) and West Africa (12 genotypes/12 isolates) with no MLGs in common. Diversity was far greater across West Africa than in South America, where genotypes from Brazil (MLG1-6), Venezuela (MLG7-10) and French Guiana (MLG11) shared similar but not identical allele composition. No MLG was exclusive to asymptomatic (endemic areas) or sick (outbreaks in non-endemic areas) animals, but only MLGs1, 2 and 3 were responsible for severe haematological and neurological disorders.Conclusions: Our results revealed closely related genotypes of T. vivax in Brazil and Venezuela, regardless of endemicity and clinical conditions of the infected livestock. The MLGs analysis from T. vivax across SA and WA support clonal propagation, and is consistent with the hypothesis that the SA populations examined here derived from common ancestors recently introduced from West Africa. The molecular markers defined here are valuable to assess the genetic diversity, to track the source and dispersion of outbreaks, and to explore the epidemiological and pathological significance of T. vivax genotypes. In the present work we shall address the issue of electrical conductivity in superconductors in the perspective of superconducting domain wall solutions in the realm of field theory. Moisture content (Psi) of poultry manure or litter is an important property of the material. Relating manure or litter Psi to its ammonia (NH3) emission is conducive to assessing and/or controlling real-time ammonia emissions from the manure or litter. However; means to measure manure or litter on a real-time basis is lacking. This study was carried out to characterize the operational performance of a commercially available soil moisture sensor for measuring V of meat-bird (broiler and turkey) litters and laying-hen manure. The Psi tested ranged from 27.1% to 65.7% for broiler litter, 22.8% to 56.1% for turkey litter, and 11.0% to 75.0% for layer manure. Bulk density (rho) ranged from 318 to 468 kg m(-3) (20 to 29 lb ft(-3)) for the broiler and turkey litters and from 151 to 943 kg m(-3)(9 to 55 lb ft(-3)) for laying-hen manure. Linear regression equations were developed to relate the sensor output to Psi and rho for the meat-bird litters and to Psi for the laying-hen manure, all yielding good fit (R-2=0.95 -0.99). An uncertainty analysis performed on the developed calibration equations revealed average errors in the V estimation of +/- 7.1% estimated value for the poultry litters and +/- 6.7% estimated value for the laying-hen manure. Litter temperature was found to have a small impact on Psi measurement by the sensor, 0.31% of measured mV per degrees C (0.17% per degrees F) deviation from the mean operating temperature over the range of 4 degrees C to 24 degrees C (39 degrees F to 75 degrees F). Results of the study indicate that when properly calibrated, the soil moisture sensor offers a reasonable means for real-time measurement of poultry litter or manure moisture content.

A precipitação pluvial efetiva durante o ciclo de produção foi 1.037 mm e a lâmina de irrigação bruta máxima foi 873 mm. A produtividade agrícola ficou entre 118 e 188 Mg ha-1, média de 160 Mg ha-1. Na isoquanta da produtividade agrícola média da cana-de-açúcar, a taxa marginal de substituição de água por N é 0,36 kg mm-1 (na interseção das retas de 25 kg de N ha-1 e 760 mm de irrigação) e infinita (na interseção das retas de 125 kg de N ha-1 e 390 mm de irrigação). A quantidade de água e nitrogênio de menor custo para produzir 160 Mg ha-1 foi 390 mm de irrigação e 112 kg de N ha-1. A regressão polinomial de segundo grau apresentou ajuste médio (r2 = 62%) para a produtividade agrícola em relação às lâminas de irrigação e doses de nitrogênio. A resposta da cana-de-açúcar à adubação nitrogenada aumenta em proporção direta com disponibilidade hídrica do solo. A field experiment with different levels of irrigation and nitrogen was carried out at the Center of Agriculture Sciences of the Federal University of Alagoas in order to determine the production function and the isoquants of agricultural productivity of sugar cane based on levels of irrigation and nitrogen (N). Effective rainfall during the production cycle was 1,037 mm and maximum gross irrigation depth was 873 mm. Agricultural productivity ranged from 118 to 188 Mg ha-1, mean level of 160Mg ha-1. The marginal rate of substitution of water by N is 0.36 kg mm-1(at the line intersection of 25 kg of N ha-1 and 760 mm of irrigation) and infinity (at the line intersection of 125 kg of N ha-1 and 390 mm of irrigation). The amount of water and nitrogen of minimum cost to produce 160 Mg ha-1 is 390 mm of irrigation and 112 kg of nitrogen per hectare . The second degree polynomial regression showed medium adjustment (r2 = 62 %) for sugar cane yield in relation to irrigation and nitrogen fertilization. The response of sugar cane to nitrogen fertilization increases directly proportional to soil humidity.

Assim, avaliaram-se os efeitos cardiovascular e respiratório dos procedimentos técnicos necessários à mielografia cervical e da infusão subaracnoidea do ioversol - 320mgI/mL - em cães anestesiados com isofluorano. Foi realizada infusão do líquido cefalorraquidiano autólogo mantido a 38°C - grupo-controle (GC); infusão do ioversol 0,3mL/kg a 25°C (GI25); e infusão do ioversol 0,3mL/kg aquecido a 38°C (GI38). Estudaram-se: pressões arteriais sistólica (PAS) e diastólica (PAD), frequências cardíaca (FC) e respiratória (FR), saturação de oxi-hemoglobina (SaO2) e medidas eletrocardiográficas (intervalos PR e QT). Não houve influência significativa do posicionamento, da punção ou da infusão subaracnoidea do ioversol sobre FC, FR, SaO2, ritmo e condução cardíaca, entretanto o isofluorano aumentou significativamente os intervalos PR e QT. Concluiu-se que a mielografia cervical com ioversol 320mgI/mL, nas temperaturas de 25ºC e 38ºC e na dose de 0,3mL/kg, não causa arritmias cardíacas nem alterações cardiovasculares e respiratórias relevantes, exceto elevação da pressão arterial após a injeção do contraste. Subarachnoid infusion of most contrast mediums and the steps involved in performing a cervical myelography have adverse affects that can discourage its use in the radiographic diagnosis of spinal cord diseases. Thus, the cardiovascular and respiratory alterations associated with neck flexion, subarachnoid puncture, and cerebrospinal fluid drainage during subarachnoid infusion of ioversol (320mgI/mL) in dogs under general anesthesia using isoflurane were evaluated. The dogs received subarachnoid infusion of autologous cerebrospinal fluid kept at 38°C - control group (GC); ioversol 0.3mL/kg at 25°C (GI25) and ioversol 0.3mL/kg heated to 38°C (GI38). Each dog had its heart rate (HR), systolic arterial pressure (SAP), diastolic arterial pressure (DAP), respiratory rate (RR), oxyhemoglobin saturation (SaO2) and electrocardiography readings (PR and QT intervals) recorded. Group comparisons showed no statistical difference regarding neck positioning, subarachnoid puncture, and subarachnoid infusion of contrast medium on HR, RR and SaO2, cardiac rhythm or conduction. However, isoflurane significantly increased PR and QT intervals. Based on these findings, it is concluded that the steps involved in cervical myelography and the use of ioversol 320mgI/mL at 0.3mL/kg (25ºC and 38ºC) during cervical myelography did not result in relevant cardiovascular and respiratory alterations, except for an elevation in arterial pressure after injection of ioversol. Foram analisadas 1.279 medidas de peso ao nascimento (PN) e peso à desmama ajustado para 210 dias (P210) referentes ao período entre os anos de 2005 e 2010. Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, adotando-se um nível de significância de 5%. Dans le Nordeste brésilien semi-aride, les récents projets d’approvisionnement en eau des petites communautés rurales affichent une rupture avec le modèle traditionnel d’action publique basé sur la grande hydraulique. De la lutte contre la sécheresse, on est passé à la lutte contre la pauvreté, et l’intervention se veut désormais localisée, décentralisée et participative. La question est de savoir si le nouvel accès à l’eau domestique modifie les relations de dépendance locales. L’étude du « réseau d’eau domestique » en tant qu’objet sociotechnique permet de se poser la question de son appropriation par les populations locales et les potentats locaux. L’analyse des récits de vie montre que, malgré des avancées, le clientélisme reste au coeur des dynamiques locales, même si sa nature évolue., In the semi-arid Brazilian Northeast, the recent water supply projects in small rural communities break away from the traditional model of public action based on – large-scale hydraulics –. Emphasis in these projects has shifted from the fight against drought to the fight against poverty and interventions now aim to be localized, decentralized and participatory. However, does this new access to domestic water modify local dependency relations? Studying the “domestic water network” as a socio-technical system questions its actual appropriation by local populations. The analysis of life narratives shows that despite improvements for the local population, these projects are still rooted in a clientelistic heritage and topdown logic. Clientelism remains at the heart of local dynamics even though its nature is progressively changing.

The aim of this study was to evaluate performance and economic viability of producing sheep fed different levels of roughage, concentrate, and water. Forty Santa Inês crossbred sheep with an average initial weight of 18.85 ± 2.80 kg and an average age of 5.0 ± 2.0 months were distributed in a completely randomized design with a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement composed of two proportions of roughage and concentrate (30:70 and 70:30) and two levels of water supply (ad libitum, and 50% restriction), with 10 replicates. Water restriction had a negative effect (P0.05) feed conversion or feed conversion. Total weight gain, average daily gain, feed conversion, and feed efficiency were influenced by the proportions of roughage and concentrate. In conclusion, the diet with 70% roughage, associated with a water restriction of 50%, reduced the uptake of energy and protein, compromising the animal performance. The combination of the diet plus concentrate and water restricted to 50% of the free consumption provides a better cost-benefit ratio.

A hepcidina desempenha um papel chave no metabolismo do ferro e no sistema imune. O aumento da expressão da hepcidina é particularmente útil durante a inflamação aguda, pois restringe a disponibilidade de ferro, necessária para o crescimento de microorganismos patogênicos. Neste estudo, o RNA mensageiro da hepcidina asinina foi caracterizado e sua expressão foi determinada em fígado de jumentos (Equus asinus). A sequência da hepcidina asinina tem uma janela de leitura de 261 nucleotídeos e a proteína correspondente é formada por 86 aminoácidos. A sequência de aminoácidos da hepcidina asinina foi mais homóloga à sequência da hepcidina equina (98%). A hepcidina madura (25 aminoácidos) foi 100% idêntica à hepcidina madura equina e possuía as oito cisteínas conservadas nas demais sequências de hepcidinas analisadas. O perfil de expressão da hepcidina no fígado de jumentos saudáveis foi alto e similar ao perfil de expressão do gene de referência. A sequência da hepcidina asinina foi depositada no GenBankTM (HQ902884) e será útil para o desenvolvimento de estudos adicionais sobre o metabolismo de ferro e inflamação nesta espécie. The hypoferremia that is observed during systemic inflammatory processes is mediated by hepcidin, which is a peptide that is mainly synthesized in the livers of several mammalian species. Hepcidin plays a key role in iron metabolism and in the innate immune system. It's up-regulation is particularly useful during acute inflammation, and it restricts the iron availability that is necessary for the growth of pathogenic microorganisms. In this study, the hepcidin mRNA of Equus asinus has been characterized, and the expression of donkey hepcidin in the liver has been determined. The donkey hepcidin sequence has an open reading frame (ORF) of 261 nucleotides, and the deduced corresponding protein sequence has 86 amino acids. The amino acid sequence of donkey hepcidin was most homologous to Equus caballus (98%). The mature donkey hepcidin sequence (25 amino acids) was 100% homologous to the equine mature hepcidin and has eight conserved cysteine residues that are found in all of the investigated hepcidin sequences. The expression profile of donkey hepcidin in the liver was high and was similar to the reference gene expression. The donkey hepcidin sequence was deposited in GenBankTM (HQ902884) and may be useful for additional studies on iron metabolism and the inflammatory process in this species. It acts through interaction with polymerases and topoisomerase II and free radical production. Doxorubicin activity is not specific to cancer cells and can also damage healthy cells, especially those undergoing rapid proliferation, such as spermatogonia. In previous studies our group showed that etoposide, another topoisomarese II poison, causes irreversible damage to Sertoli cells. Thus, the aim of this study was to address the effects of doxorubicin on Sertoli cell morphology and function and on the seminiferous epithelium cycle when administered to prepubertal rats.Methods: Prepubertal rats received the dose of 5 mg/Kg of doxorubicin, which was fractioned in two doses: 3 mg/Kg at 15dpp and 2 mg/Kg at 22dpp. The testes were collected at 40, 64 and 127dpp, fixed in Bouin's liquid and submitted to transferrin immunolabeling for Sertoli cell function analysis. Sertoli cell morphology and the frequency of the stages of the seminiferous epithelium cycle were analyzed in PAS + H-stained sections.Results: The rats treated with doxorubicin showed reduction of transferrin labeling in the seminiferous epithelium at 40 and 64dpp, suggesting that Sertoli cell function is altered in these rats. All doxorubicin-treated rats showed sloughing and morphological alterations of Sertoli cells. The frequency of the stages of the seminiferous epithelium cycle was also affected in all doxorubicin-treated rats.Conclusions and discussion: These data show that doxorubicin administration during prepuberty causes functional and morphological late damage to Sertoli cells; such damage is secondary to the germ cell primary injury and contributed to enhance the spermatogenic harm caused by this drug. However, additional studies are required to clarify if there is also a direct effect of doxorubicin on Sertoli cells producing a primary damage on these cells. Oculocutaneous albinism was studied in a herd of Murrah buffalo to determine the clinical presentation and genetic basis of albinism in this species.Results: Clinical examinations and pedigree analysis were performed in an affected herd, and wild-type and OCA tyrosinase mRNA sequences were obtained. The main clinical findings were photophobia and a lack of pigmentation of the hair, skin, horns, hooves, mucosa, and iris. The results of segregation analysis suggest that this disease is acquired through recessive inheritance. In the OCA buffalo, a single-base substitution was detected at nucleotide 1,431 (G to A), which leads to the conversion of tryptophan into a stop codon at residue 477.Conclusion: This premature stop codon produces an inactive protein, which is responsible for the OCA buffalo phenotype. These findings will be useful for future studies of albinism in buffalo and as a possible model to study diseases caused by a premature stop codon. No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2012-03-01 Informations about fertilization and mineral nutrition of the new fusariosis-resistant pineapple cultivars are still scarce, despite the importance of this crop. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of increasing doses of N on fruit yield and quality of the pineapple cultivar 'Vitoria' grown on a 'Humiluvico Espodossolo' in the region of Tabuleiros Costeiros, in the state of Paraiba. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design, using five N doses (100, 200, 300, 500 and 600 kg ha(-1)N, as urea) applied 60, 180 and 270 days after planting (dap) with three replications. The following variables were evaluated: length and fresh matter of the 'D' leaf; contents of N, P and K in the portions with and without chlorophyll, 300 and 420 dap; average weight, yield, physical properties (fruit weight, length and medium diameter; crown weight and length) and chemical properties (pH, soluble solids -SS, titrable acidity - AT, and the SS/AT ratio) of the fruits at harvest. Increasing N doses linearly increased length and fresh matter of the 'D' leaf and N content and decrease both P and K contents of the chlorophyll portion 300 dap, but did not affect nutrient contents 420 dap; in the chlorophyll-free portion. Increasing N doses, also, led to an increase in K contents 320 dap, but to reductions 420 dap. Individual fruit weight and total yield increased with increasing N doses, as maximum values of 1.0 kg and 37.9 t ha(-1) were estimated at doses of 409.0 and 439.0 kg ha(-1) N, respectively. The N doses did not affect the fruit quality properties, which were compatible with the characteristics described for this cultivar. However, field veterinarians have reported that horses become intoxicated after ingesting the coffee husks that are used as bedding. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether coffee husk consumption causes intoxication in horses.Results: Six horses fed coast cross hay ad libitum were given access to coffee husks and excitability, restlessness, involuntary muscle tremors, chewing movements and constant tremors of the lips and tongue, excessive sweating and increased respiration and heart rates were the most evident clinical signs. Caffeine levels were measured in the plasma and urine of these horses on two occasions: immediately before the coffee husks were made available to the animals (T0) and at the time of the clinical presentation of intoxication, 56 h after the animals started to consume the husks (T56). The concentrations of caffeine in the plasma (p < 0.001) and urine (p < 0.001) of these animals were significantly greater at T56 than at T0.Conclusions: It was concluded that consumption of coffee husks was toxic to horses due to the high levels of caffeine present in their composition. Therefore, coffee husks pose a risk when used as bedding or as feed for horses. Trinta e dois animais (10,9±2,9kg) foram distribuídos em dois grupos: no GP, o propofol foi usado para indução, 10±0.5mg/kg, seguido por infusão contínua, 0,55±0,15mg/kg/min; no GS, o sevofluorano foi administrado para indução, 2,5 CAM, e manutenção, 1,5 CAM, da anestesia. O cateter de fibra óptica foi implantado na superfície direita do córtex cerebral para monitorar a pressão intracraniana (PIC). Após 30 minutos, o fluido cerebroespinhal (FCS) foi coletado da cisterna magna e o iohexol injetado. As mensurações ocorreram antes da coleta do FCS (TA), depois da injeção de iohexol (T0) e em intervalos de 10 minutos (T10 a T60). A pressão intracraniana diminuiu em T0 no GS. A pressão de perfusão cerebral em T0 foi maior que em TA, T50 e T60 no GP, mas no GS, a média em T0 foi maior que as de T20 a T60. A pressão arterial média em T0 foi maior que em TA no GP, enquanto no GS, de T20 a T60, as médias foram menores que em T0. A frequência cardíaca em T60 foi menor que em T0 no GP. O débito cardíaco em TA foi menor que em T60 no GS. A coleta do fluido cerebroespinhal e a administração do iohexol promoveram a diminuição da pressão intracranina em cães anestesiados com sevofluorano e aumento da pressão de perfusão cerebral em cães anestesiados com propofol. The effects of subarachnoid administration of iohexol on intracranial hemodynamic in dogs anesthetized with propofol or sevoflurane were evaluated. Thirty adult animals (10.9±2.9kg) were distributed into two groups: PG, where propofol was used for induction (10±0.5mg/kg), followed by a continuous rate infusion at 0.55±0.15mg/kg/hour, and SG, where sevoflurane was administered for induction (2.5 MAC) and for anesthetic maintenance (1.5 MAC). A fiberoptic catheter was implanted on the right superficial cerebral cortex to monitor intracranial pressure (ICP). After 30 minutes, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) was collected at the cisterna magna and iohexol was injected. The measurements were performed before CSF collection (TA), after the iohexol injection (T0), and at 10-minute intervals (T10 to T60). Intracranial pressure decreased at T0 in SG. Cerebral perfusion pressure at T0 was higher than at TA, T50 and T60 in PG, but in SG, the mean value at T0 was higher than the ones from T20 to T60. Mean arterial pressure at T0 was higher than at TA in PG, while in SG, the values from T20 to T60 were lower than at T0. The heart rate at T60 was lower than at T0 in PG. Cardiac output at TA was lower than at T60 in SG. The cerebrospinal fluid collection and administration of iohexol promoted decrease in intracranial pressure in sevolflurane-anesthetized dogs and increase in cerebral perfusion pressure in propofol-anesthetized dogs. This study was aimed to evaluate the development of height and diameter of the stems of chrysanthemum cultivar Yoko ono by the applications of gibberellic acid (GA(3)) in the field. The treatments were composed of four doses (0, 40, 80 and 120 mg L(-1)) at 15 and 30 days after transplanting. From the findings, It can be concluded that GA(3) significantly affected the diameter of stem at higher doses, and was unable to affect the height of stem. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os teores de nutrientes nas folhas, nos grãos e a exportação de nutrientes em função do aumento de níveis de N na cultura do girassol. Foi adotado o delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados constituído por cinco tratamentos e quatro repetições: T1 - 50 kg ha-1 de N dividido em 10, 20 e 20; T2 - 70 kg ha-1 de N dividido em 10, 30 e 30; T3 - 90 kg ha-1 de N dividido em 10, 40 e 40; T4 - 110 kg ha-1 de N dividido em 10, 50 e 50; T5 - 130 kg ha-1 de N dividido em 10, 60 e 60. Essas aplicações parceladas foram efetuadas quando da semeadura e aos 34 e 48 dias após a semeadura. Os parâmetros avaliados foram teores de nutrientes nas folhas, teores de nutrientes nos grãos e a exportação de nutrientes. Nas condições experimentais verificou-se que os teores foliares adequados de N foram adquiridos na dosagem acima de 110 kg ha-1 de N. Com o aumento da quantidade de N fornecido na cultura do girassol foi exportado mais este elemento, porém não na mesma proporção de aumento da dosagem. A menor dose de N promoveu os menores índices de exportação de P, K, Mg, S, B, Cu, Mn e Zn, enquanto que o aumento da dose deste nutriente diminuiu a exportação de Ca. Nitrogen (N), besides being one of the macro more absorbed by plants, is the that most limits the production of sunflower. The aim of this study was to evaluate the nutrient content in leaves, grains and nutrient export due to nitrogen levels in sunflower cultivation. A randomized experimental block design consisting of five treatments and four replications: T1 - 50 kg N ha(-1) divided by 10, 20 and 20 kg ha(-1), T2 - 70 kg N ha(-1) divided by 10, 30 and 30 kg ha(-1); T3 - 90 kg N ha(-1) divided by 10, 40 and 40 kg ha(-1), T4 - 110 kg N ha(-1) divided by 10, 50 and 50 kg ha(-1), T5 - 130 kg N ha(-1) divided by 10, 60 and 60 kg ha(-1). These applications were made in installments when sowing and 34 and 48 days after sowing. The parameters were evaluated in leaf nutrient content, nutrient content in grains and nutrient export. Under the experimental conditions it was found that the optimum foliar N were purchased at a dosage above 110 kg ha-1 N. With the increasing amount of N supplied in the sunflower crop was exported over this element, but not at the same rate of increase in dosage. Ferrita de níquel com composição nominal NiFe2-xCrxO4 (x = 0,0; 0,5; 1,0 e 1,5 mol de cromo) foram sintetizadas por reação de combustão usando uréia como combustível. Os pós resultantes foram caracterizados por difração de raios-X (DRX), adsorção de nitrogênio (BET), microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV) e espectroscopia de Mossbauer (57Fe Mössbauer spectra). Os resultados mostram que a substituição de 3+ Fe por 3+ Cr , aumentou o grau de cristalinidade da fase e reduziu a área superficial, conseqüentemente aumentou o tamanho da partícula. Os espectros Mössbauer das amostras também confirmam a distribuição do tamanho de partículas através das propriedades magnéticas. A análise dos espectros dá uma estimativa das partículas superparamagnéticas e ferromagnéticas em cada amostra para várias concentrações de cromo. This paper reports on the effect of the substitution of Fe3+ for Cr3+ ions in the spinel lattice of the powders was investigated. Nickel ferrite powders with a NiFe2-xCrxO4 nominal composition (x = 0.0; 0.5; 1.0 and 1.5 mol of the chromium) were synthesized by combustion reaction using urea as fuel. The powders resulting were characterized by XRD, nitrogen adsorption by BET, SEM and Mössbauer spectroscopy (57Fe Mössbauer spectra). The results show that the substitution of the Fe3+ for Cr3+ions increased the crystalline degree of the phase, reduced the superficial area and consequently increased the particle size. The Mössbauer spectra of the samples also confirm the distribution of the particles size by the magnetic properties. Analyze of the spectra Mössbauer gives an estimate of the superparamagnetic and ferromagnetic particles behavior in each sample for several chromium concentrations. As plantas cresceram em vasos de Leonard, contendo areia lavada e esterilizada, e os tratamentos foram distribuídos em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, num esquema fatorial 3x3, com 5 repetições. O primeiro fator correspondeu a não inoculação e inoculação com as estirpes de Bradyrhizobium sp SEMIA 6070 e SEMIA 6153 e o segundo fator, às doses de NaCl (0, 25 e 50 mol m-3). Analisaram-se a altura e o acúmulo de massa seca, o número de nódulos e o teor de nitrogênio nas plantas. A inoculação das plantas com a estirpe SEMIA 6070 proporcionou maior crescimento e maior acúmulo de nitrogênio nas plantas que não foram submetidas à salinidade. A nodulação não foi afetada pela salinidade. A inoculação com a estirpe SEMIA 6153 proporcionou maior tolerância à salinidade. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of salinity in the growth and nitrogen fixation in leucaena. Plants were cultivated in Leonard pots containing clean and sterilized sand. The treatments were distributed in a completely randomized design, in a 3x3 factorial, with five replicates. The first factor corresponded to no inoculation and inoculation with Bradyrhizobium sp SEMIA 6070 and SEMIA 6153 strains. The second factor corresponded to NaCl concentrations: 0, 25 and 50 mol m(-3). Were analyzed the height and dry matter accumulation, the number of nodules and nitrogen in plants. The inoculation of plants with the strain SEMIA 6070 provided higher growth and greater nitrogen accumulation in plants thar were not subject to salinity. Nodulation was not affected by salinity. Inoculation with SEMIA 6153 strain provided greater tolerance to salinity. A habilidade das plantas em sobreviver sob condições salinas é importante para sua distribuição geográfica e para a agricultura nas regiões salinizadas. Este estudo teve como objetivo verificar os efeitos de doses de NaCl no crescimento, produção de matéria seca e teores de nutrientes em plantas jovens de leucena. O experimento foi conduzido em vasos de ‘Leonard’ com solução nutritiva, contendo 0, 25, 50 e 100 mmol L-1 de NaCl. A salinidade causou redução no crescimento e no acúmulo de matéria seca das plantas. Aumento das doses de cloreto de sódio reduz o crescimento e o acúmulo de matéria seca das plantas de leucena. Ocorre aumento, na parte aérea, nos teores de N e K, e nas raízes, de N e Mg, enquanto há redução nos teores de Mg na parte aérea e de Ca nas raízes, com aumento da dose de NaCl. As plantas de leucena não excluem o Na e o Cl, principalmente da parte aérea. Excessive salt can to promote water soil retention, reducing your availability to plants. Besides, they can interfere in protoplasm metabolism. The plants ability to survive in salinity conditions is an important factor to geographic distribution and agriculture in salinized regions. The objective of this work was to verify the effects of the NaCl in the growth, dry matter distribution and N, K, Ca, Mg, Na, and Cl content in young plants. The experiment was conducted in 'Leonard' pots, with nutrient solutions, with NaCl ( 0, 25, 50 and 100 mmol L(-1)). Increasing of NaCl concentration reduces growth and total dry matter. There was an increase of N and K content, in shoots, and N and Mg content in roots. There was an reduction in Mg content in shoots, and reduction of Ca content in roots with increasing of NaCl. Leucaena plants were inefficient to exclude Na and Cl, in shoots principally. Foram utilizados 18 reprodutores caprinos machos, divididos em três grupos de seis animais: O Grupo I contendo caprinos com escroto simples, o Grupo II, caprinos com escroto bipartido até 50% do comprimento testicular e o Grupo III, caprinos com bipartição superior a 50% do comprimento testicular. Os parâmetros avaliados foram as temperaturas do escroto, testículo e funículo espermático, obtidas de forma invasiva, com um termômetro digital termoacoplável, e não invasiva, com um pirômetro, nos terços proximal, médio e distal. Os dados foram coletados nos períodos seco (outubro-novembro) e chuvoso (fevereiro-março) do ano, bem como, nos turnos da manhã (6h00 às 7h00) e tarde (14h00 às 15h00). Os resultados foram submetidos à análise de variância (ANOVA) seguida do teste SNK para comparação das médias (p50%). It is possible to conclude that with the experimental conditions applied on this study, the level of scrotal bipartition and the climatic conditions interfere with the scrotal-testicular thermal regulation in goats.
