Hydrogen demand has already significantly increased due to the industry needs. Mature technologies based on fossil fuels are not satisfactory due to greenhouse gas concerns. In response, a range of advanced processes are being developed throughout the world. Within the ‘International Energy Agency – Hydrogen Implementing Agreement – Task 25’, a multicriteria methodology was developed for the evaluation of high temperature hydrogen production processes. The aim is to guide R&D strategy by highlighting to which extent the processes may appear promising. The method that was developed is based on the elimination and choice translating the reality (ELECTRE). This study has conducted a first pass application to hydrogen production and highlights the importance of significant weightings and discriminating criteria. Decision makers can apply this method to extract their own subset of processes from the alternatives, according to their system of values defined through the selection of criteria and the associated weights.

Der Vergleich von Ozon-Vertikalprofilen, die mit vier Lidarsystemen aufgenommen wurden, mit In-situ-Messungen nach der UV-Absorptions- und der Chemilumineszenzmethode auf einem Flugzeug, einem Fesselballon und einem Hochhaus zeigen gute Übereinstimmung, wenn die Lidarsysteme nach den Richtlinien der Kommission Reinhaltung der Luft (KRdL) im VDI und DIN betrieben werden; in der Tendenz ist eine geringe systematische Abweichung der Lidardaten gegenüber den In-situ-Daten nach unten zu erkennen, deren Ursache noch unklar ist. Bei der quantitativen Bewertung muss die sich aus den Unterschieden der In-situ-Ergebnisse untereinander ergebende, beträchtliche natürliche Variation der Ozonkonzentration in der unteren Troposphäre berücksichtigt werden. Die besten Resultate werden erzielt, wenn Datensätze, während deren Aufnahme infolge von Nebelschwaden oder Wolken steile Gradienten des Rückstreukoeffizienten vorlagen, mit einem speziellen Algorithmus oder von einem erfahrenen Operateur von der Auswertung ausgeschlossen werden.

The Schauinsland Ozone Precursor Experiment (SLOPE96) campaign was conducted in June 1996 to study the physicochemical transformation of pollutants and the production of photooxidants during; transport from the city of Freiburg to the Schauinsland mountain. For this purpose, chemical surface measurements were made at the entrance of the valley Großes Tal, and close to the Schauinsland summit, at 1200 m altitude on a saddle at the end of the valley. In addition, measurements of ozone, NO sub 2, and meteorological parameters were made on two tethered balloons and aboard a small. This paper describes the experimental setup and the measurements of ozone, odd-nitrogen compounds, carbonyl compounds, CO, and photolysis frequencies made during SLOPE96. The various instruments used on the different platforms were harmonized on the basis of intercomparison experiments in order to achieve a consistent picture. Large precursor concentrations from the nearby city of Freiburg are transported to Schauinsland in a valley wind system during stagnant high-pressure conditions. These conditions occurred only on 2 davs of the campaign, and only 1 day (June 5) was predictable enough to allow for deployment of the aircraft and the balloons. An OH concentration of 8 - 10 x 10 high 6 CM high -3 is derived from the rate of change of HNO sub 3 and NO sub 2 on June 5 at Schauinsland (1.5 - 3 ppb NO sub 2; J sub O1D about 2 x 10 high -5 s high -1), assuming quasi steady state and a homogeneous air mass. The ozone production rate as determined from the photostationary state of NO sub x at Schauinsland reached maximum daily values between 15 and 60 ppb h high -1 around noontime. On average, P(O sub 3) comprised about 30 % of the photolysis rate of NO sub 2. Similar to earlier observations at Schauinsland, a good correlation between P(O sub 3) and the product of UV radiation and precursor concentrations was found.
