Although radicle pruning has well been observed in plant–animal interactions, research has not been conducted to determine how radicle pruning by seed‐eating animals regulates nutrition mobilization of cotyledonary reserves and absorption of soil nutrients. We used stable nitrogen isotopes to test how acorns of early‐germinating oak species (Quercus variabilis, Q. aliena, and Q. mogolica) trade off nutrients in the cotyledons and those in the soil in response to radicle pruning by seed‐eating rodents. Radicle pruning by rodents resulted in root branching in the 3 early‐germinating oak species. Moreover, radicle pruning increased shoot dry weight and substantially reduced the root‐to‐shoot ratio of oak species. Corresponding to the decreased dry weight of roots and root‐to‐shoot ratio, the dry weight of the remnant cotyledons was higher after radicle pruning in the 3 oak species. We provided first evidence that radicle pruning by seed‐eating animals improved seedling performance of early‐germinating oaks by increasing absorption of nutrients from soil. The results indicate that early‐germinating oak seedlings trade off nutrition budget by altering nutrient absorption from soil and reserve mobilization from cotyledons in response to radicle pruning by seed‐eating animals. Our study provided new insight into the nutrition allocation mechanism of young seedlings in response to radicle pruning by seed‐eating animals, reflecting a mutualistic interaction between early‐germinating oak and food‐hoarding animals. Background. Cinnamic acid (CA) has been shown to have many beneficial effects including regulating lipid metabolism and reducing obesity. However, its effect on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFDL) has not been investigated in detail. Thus, we performed this study in order to explore CA's effect on hepatic lipid metabolism and the underlying mechanisms. Method. Oleic acid (OA) was used to induce lipid accumulation in HepG2 cells. After coincubation with CA, the cells were stained with oil red O and the triglyceride (TG) content was assessed. Key genes in lipogenesis and fatty acid oxidation pathways were tested. Additionally, db/db and wt/wt mice were divided into three groups, with the wt/wt mice representing the normal group and the db/db mice being divided into the NAFLD and CA groups. After 4 weeks of oral treatment, all mice were sacrificed and the blood lipid profile and liver tissues were assessed. Results. CA treatment reduced the lipid accumulation in HepG2 cells and in db/db mouse livers. ACLY, ACC, FAS, SCD1, PPARγ, and CD36 were significantly downregulated, while CPT1A, PGC1α, and PPARα were significantly upregulated. Conclusion. CA's therapeutic effect on NAFLD may be attributed to its ability to lower hepatic lipid accumulation, which is mediated by suppression of hepatic lipogenesis and fatty acid intake, as well as increased fatty acid oxidation. Azurite blue (shi qin, 石青) was one of the most important colors in the Qing (清) dynasty; however, most people, even those familiar with color description, may find it difficult to describe its exact appearance. To determine and offer a more precise description of azurite blue, nine formal items of clothing, including three ceremonial robes of emperors and their wives, and six court robes from the Qing dynasty were examined using the Natural Color System (NCS) classification and the colors were labeled based on the NCS system. Assessments indicate that while azurite blue in different garments varies on a narrow scale, the colors of the royal robes range from S8010‐R60B to S8505‐R50B, and a color ranging between two NCS notations S8505‐R80B to S8010‐R65B represent those of the officers. A novel electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor was fabricated for miRNA-162a detection by using silver nanoclusters/molybdenum disulfide (AgNCs@MoS2) as an ECL material, peroxodisulfate (S2O82−) as a co-reactant, and semicarbazide (Sem) as a co-reaction accelerator. Firstly, hairpin probe Ha modified on AgNCs@MoS2/GCE was unfolded based on its hybridization with target microRNA. Then, the unfolded Ha can further be hybridized with another hairpin DNA of Hb on (AuNPs-semicarbazide)@Cu-MOF, resulting in the release of target microRNA, which further causes a cyclic hybridization. This creates more (AuNPs-semicarbazide)@Cu-MOF on the electrode surface, achieving cyclic hybridization signal amplification. Strikingly, due to the presence of Sem, accelerating the reduction of S2O82− and resulting in the generation of more oxidant intermediates of SO42−, the amount of excited states of Agincreases to further amplify the ECL signal. The biosensor exhibited high sensitivity with a low LOD of 1.067 fM, indicating that the introduction of co-reaction accelerators can provide an effective method for signal amplification. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia, characterized by progressive cognitive impairment and neurodegeneration. Extensive clinical and genomic studies have revealed biomarkers, risk factors, pathways, and targets of AD in the past decade. However, the exact molecular basis of AD development and progression remains elusive. The emerging single-cell sequencing technology can potentially provide cell-level insights into the disease. Here we systematically review the state-of-the-art bioinformatics approaches to analyze single-cell sequencing data and their applications to AD in 14 major directions, including 1) quality control and normalization, 2) dimension reduction and feature extraction, 3) cell clustering analysis, 4) cell type inference and annotation, 5) differential expression, 6) trajectory inference, 7) copy number variation analysis, 8) integration of single-cell multi-omics, 9) epigenomic analysis, 10) gene network inference, 11) prioritization of cell subpopulations, 12) integrative analysis of human and mouse sc-RNA-seq data, 13) spatial transcriptomics, and 14) comparison of single cell AD mouse model studies and single cell human AD studies. We also address challenges in using human postmortem and mouse tissues and outline future developments in single cell sequencing data analysis. Importantly, we have implemented our recommended workflow for each major analytic direction and applied them to a large single nucleus RNA-sequencing (snRNA-seq) dataset in AD. Key analytic results are reported while the scripts and the data are shared with the research community through GitHub. In summary, this comprehensive review provides insights into various approaches to analyze single cell sequencing data and offers specific guidelines for study design and a variety of analytic directions. The review and the accompanied software tools will serve as a valuable resource for studying cellular and molecular mechanisms of AD, other diseases, or biological systems at the single cell level. In this study, nanocomposites with signal amplification capability and high fluorescence quantum yield were prepared by compositing carbon dots (CDs) with diatomaceous earth (DE) by hydrothermal method. The resulting CDs/DE nanocomposites were characterized using fluorescence spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscope (TEM), scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and UV–visible light analysis. The characterization data demonstrate that the fluorescence intensity of CDs can be significantly enhanced, and the fluorescence quantum yield can be increased from 10.1 % to 32.3 % through encapsulation with DE. The CDs/DE nanocomposites have a sensitive and highly selective fluorescence quenching phenomenon on hexavalent chromium ions (Cr(VI)). Under the irradiation of 365 nm ultraviolet light, the fluorescence color of the test paper changed from pink to blue with the increase of the concentration of hexavalent chromium ions on the test paper in the dark environment. Although it has been suggested that olfaction is closely interconnected with hippocampal systems, whether olfaction regulates spatial memory strategy remains never known. Furthermore, no study has examined how olfaction mediates spatial memory established on the external objects, for example, caches made by scatter‐hoarding animals. Here, we experimentally induced nondestructive and reversible olfaction loss of a scatter‐hoarding animal Leopoldamys edwardsi, to test whether and how olfaction regulates spatial memory to mediate cache recovery and pilferage. Our results showed that the normal L. edwardsi preferred to pilfer caches of others rather than to recover their own using accurate spatial memory (35.7% vs. 18.6%). Anosmic L. edwardsi preferred to recover the caches they made prior to olfaction loss rather than to pilfer from others relied on spatial memory (54.2% vs. 36.0%). However, L. edwardsi with anosmia showed no preference either to the caches they established after olfaction loss or caches made by others (25.8% vs. 29.1%). These collectively indicate that olfaction loss has a potential to affect new memory formation but not previously established spatial memory on caches. Our study first showed that olfaction modified spatial memory strategy in cache recovery and pilferage behaviors of scatter‐hoarding animals. Fecal incontinence caused by sphincter dysfunction is an unresolved problem which has a serious effect on patients, both physically and psychologically. For patients with severe symptoms, treatment with an artificial anal sphincter could be a potential option to restore continence. Acticon Neosphincter still has safety and efficacy problems, which is the only device certified by the US Food and Drug Administration. The biomechanical compatibility is the key problem of artificial anal sphincter in the clinical application. This paper describes an artificial anal sphincter with superelastic shape memory alloys and its mechanical properties assessment in artificial intestine models. Clamping devices with constant force or pressure are desired in medical device, such as hemostatic forceps and the artificial sphincter, to prevent soft tissues from injures due to overloading. It is easily obtained by stretching an SMA wire. However, studies with SMA bending round bar have seldom been reported before. This paper studied constant force characteristic of C-shaped round bar with shape memory alloys. Optimization designs of the components were carried out with computational simulation. Protein cysteine S-sulfenylation is an essential and reversible post-translational modification that plays a crucial role in transcriptional regulation, stress response, cell signaling and protein function. Studies have shown that S-sulfenylation is involved in many human diseases such as cancer, diabetes and arteriosclerosis. However, experimental identification of protein S-sulfenylation sites is generally expensive and time-consuming. In this study, we proposed a new protein S-sulfenylation sites prediction method SulSite-GTB. First, fusion of amino acid composition, dipeptide composition, encoding based on grouped weight, K nearest neighbors, position-specific amino acid propensity, position-weighted amino acid composition and pseudo-position specific score matrix feature extraction to obtain the initial feature space. Secondly, we use the synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE) algorithm to process the class imbalance data, and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) are employed to remove the redundant and irrelevant features. Finally, the optimal feature subset is input into the gradient tree boosting classifier to predict the S-sulfenylation sites, and the five-fold cross-validation and independent test set method are used to evaluate the prediction performance of the model. Experimental results showed the overall prediction accuracy is 92.86% and 88.53%, respectively, and the AUC values are 0.9706 and 0.9425, respectively, on the training set and the independent test set. Compared with other prediction methods, the results show that the proposed method SulSite-GTB is significantly superior to other state-of-the-art methods and provides a new idea for the prediction of post-translational modification sites of other proteins. Recently, research intergrading medicine and Artificial Intelligence has attracted extensive attention. Mobile health has emerged as a promising paradigm for improving people's work and life in the future. However, high mobility of mobile devices and limited resources pose challenges for users to deal with the applications in mobile health that require large amount of computational resources. In this paper, a novel computation offloading mechanism is proposed in the environments combining of the Internet of Vehicles and Multi-Access Edge Computing. Through the proposed mechanism, mobile health applications are divided into several parts and can be offloaded to appropriate nearby vehicles while meeting the requirements of application completion time, energy consumption, and resource utilization. A particle swarm optimization based approach is proposed to optimize the the aforementioned computation offloading problem in a specific medical application. Evaluations of the proposed algorithms against local computing method serves as baseline method are conducted via extensive simulations. The average task completion time saved by our proposed task allocation scheme increases continually compared with the local solution. Acute Intermittent Porphyria (AIP), an autosomal dominant hepatic disorder, results from hydroxymethylbilane synthase (HMBS) mutations that decrease the encoded enzymatic activity, thereby predisposing patients to life-threatening acute neurovisceral attacks. The ~1% penetrance of AIP suggests that other genetic factors modulate the onset and severity of the acute attacks. Here, we characterized the hepatic transcriptomic response to phenobarbital (PB) administration in AIP mice, which mimics the biochemical attacks of AIP. At baseline, the mRNA profiles of 14,138 hepatic genes prior to treatment were remarkably similar between AIP and the congenic wild-type (WT) mice. After PB treatment (~120 mg/kg x 3d), 1347 and 1120 genes in AIP mice and 422 and 404 genes in WT mice were uniquely up- and down-regulated, respectively, at a False Discovery Rate < 0.05. As expected, the ALAS1 expression increased 4.5-fold and 15.9-fold in the WT and AIP mice, respectively. ALA-dehydrogenase also was induced ~1.7-fold in PB-induced AIP mice, but was unchanged in PB-induced WT mice. There was no statistically significant difference in the overall expression of 155 hepatic cytochrome P450 enzymes, although Cyp2c40, Cyp2c68, Cyp2c69, Mgst3 were upregulated only in PB-induced AIP mice (>1.9-fold) and Cyp21a1 was upregulated only in PB-induced WT mice (>9-fold). Notably, the genes differentially expressed in induced AIP mice were enriched in circadian rhythm, mitochondria biogenesis and electron transport, suggesting these pathways were involved in AIP mice responding to PB treatment. These results advance our understanding of the hepatic metabolic changes in PB-induced AIP mice and have implications in the pathogenesis of AIP acute attacks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Motivation Phosphorylation is the most studied post-translational modification, which is crucial for multiple biological processes. Recently, many efforts have been taken to develop computational predictors for phosphorylation site prediction, but most of them are based on feature selection and discriminative classification. Thus, it is useful to develop a novel and highly accurate predictor that can unveil intricate patterns automatically for protein phosphorylation sites. Results In this study we present DeepPhos, a novel deep learning architecture for prediction of protein phosphorylation. Unlike multi-layer convolutional neural networks, DeepPhos consists of densely connected convolutional neuron network blocks which can capture multiple representations of sequences to make final phosphorylation prediction by intra block concatenation layers and inter block concatenation layers. DeepPhos can also be used for kinase-specific prediction varying from group, family, subfamily and individual kinase level. The experimental results demonstrated that DeepPhos outperforms competitive predictors in general and kinase-specific phosphorylation site prediction. In this research, porous W matrixes for dispenser Ba-W cathodes were prepared by metal injection molding (MIM) using W powders with different particle shapes as raw materials. Other than investigating the effect of the powder particle shape on the pore characteristics of the porous W matrix, the influence of the powder particle shape on the emission properties of the Ba-W cathode was also investigated. Irregular W powder particles had higher surface roughness and specific surface area than the spherical W particles, resulting in sinuous pore channels and higher pore-specific surface area in the prepared W matrix. The emission current density of the cathode processed from the irregular powder was thus improved as the level of Ba–O dipoles, covered on the emission surface, was increased. Abstract Herein, a novel photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensor was developed for the ultrasensitive detection of dual microRNAs (miRNAs), with the detection being based on energy transfer (ET) between carbon quantum dots (CQDs) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The PEC platform consisted of a CQDs@Mo 2 C nanotube modified ITO electrode. Two hairpin probes (H1 and H2) carrying the Au NPs were used "switch off" and "switch on" the PEC signal of the CQDs, with a close approach of the tagged AuNPs to the CQDs quenching the PEC signal. The introduction of different miRNAs (miRNA-159b and miRNA-166a) altered the interparticle distance between the AuNPs and CQDs, thereby affecting the intensity of the PEC response. This approach allowed the highly sensitive detection of both miRNA-159b and miRNA-166a. The linear range of the biosensor for miRNA-159b and miRNA-166a detection were 0.5–5000 fM, with low detection limits of 0.15 fM and 0.21 fM, respectively. To our knowledge, this is the first reported CQDs-based ET biosensor for the PEC detection of dual miRNAs. Aiming at the problem that traditional similarity calculation method is not enough to capture the similarity relationship between users, a distributed collaborative filtering recommendation algorithm based on DHT is proposed for active users in distributed recommendation system to locate nearest neighbors. The algorithm searches the user's similar neighbor information according to the "fuzzy critical value" generated by the user's extreme score, so as to improve the search efficiency of the user similar neighbors. According to the distribution of user information, the calculation method of user neighbor similarity is improved. The similarity calculation is weighted, and the setting of the weights takes into account the two factors: the similarity degree between users and the inverse user information frequency. Fecal incontinence caused by sphincter dysfunction is a difficult medical problem which has not been fully resolved. An artificial anal sphincter (AAS) is considered an eventual choice as prosthesis to maintain anal continence. Currently, Acticon Neosphincter, the only device certified by the US Food and Drug Administration can not maintain the long-term effectiveness. The crucial problem of this study was to keeping long-term biomechanical compatibility between the AAS and the surrounding tissue. This paper presented a design of an AAS with constant force or pressure using superelastic shape memory alloy (SMA) to solve the problem. A C-shaped superelastic SMA sheet was optimized to obtain constant force or pressure by combing finite element analysis with ANSYS and genetic algorithm in MATLAB. The result of optimization was validated by performing an experiment. Abstract Herein, a novel photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensor was developed for the ultrasensitive detection of microRNA-396a based on a MoS 2 /g-C 3 N 4 /black TiO 2 heterojunction as the photoactive material and gold nanoparticles carrying Histostar antibodies (Histostar@AuNPs) for signal amplification. Briefly, MoS 2 /g-C 3 N 4 /black TiO 2 was deposited on an indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode surface, after which gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and probe DNA were assembled on the modified electrode. Hybridization with miRNA-396a resulted in a rigid DNA: RNA hybrid being formed, which was recognized by the S9.6 antibody. The captured antibody can further conjugate with the secondary IgG antibodies of Histostar@AuNPs, thereby leading to the immobilization of horse radish peroxidase (HRP). In the presence of HRP, the oxidation of 4-chloro-1-naphthol (4-CN) by H 2 O 2 was accelerated, producing the insoluble product benzo-4-chlorohexadienone on the electrode surface and causing a significant decrease in the photocurrent. The developed biosensor could detect miRNA-396a at concentrations from 0.5 fM to 5000 fM, with a detection limit of 0.13 fM. Further, the proposed method can also be used to investigate the effect of heavy metal ions on the expression level of miRNAs. Results suggest that the biosensor developed herein offers a promising platform for the ultrasensitive detection of miRNA. Spatial memory can improve cache recovery in scatter-hoarding mammals; however, we lack knowledge about how spatial memory affects scatter-hoarding behavior. Captive-reared Siberian chipmunks (Tamias sibiricus) were orally dosed with docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and uridine-5-monophosphate (UMP) for 6 weeks to test if improved spatial memory affects scatter hoarding. Oral administration of DHA and UMP significantly increased the relative size of hippocampi of the chipmunks and increased concentration of hippocampal DHA and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Consequently, spatial ability of chipmunks in a Y-maze was significantly improved after administration of DHA and UMP. More importantly, chipmunks that received DHA and UMP scatter hoarded more seeds than control animals. This study shows that scatter hoarding in a mammal is associated with improvement in spatial memory, suggesting the potential role of spatial memory in determining food-hoarding behavior. The formation of solid inorganic salts from solutions is of fundamental importance for industrial, geological, and biological processes. Here, we review the literature on the fundamentals of inorganic scaling with the goal of elucidating the underlying phenomena observed during thermal desalination processes, mainly multi-stage flash (MSF). We will focus on one of the most common foulants, CaCO 3 , recognizing that similar phenomena occur for other salts and that behaviors in mixtures with other salts and organic molecules will impact the real world situation. This review will cover a wide range of dimensions, providing views from molecular level to plant scale. In addition to the mechanism and kinetics of scale formation in MSF, we will also review current strategies to control scaling in MSF and highlight directions for future development. Motivation Availability of large-scale genomic, epigenetic and proteomic data in complex diseases makes it possible to objectively and comprehensively identify the therapeutic targets that can lead to new therapies. The Connectivity Map has been widely used to explore novel indications of existing drugs. However, the prediction accuracy of the existing methods, such as Kolmogorov–Smirnov statistic remains low. Here we present a novel high-performance drug repositioning approach that improves over the state-of-the-art methods. Results We first designed an expression weighted cosine (EWCos) method to minimize the influence of the uninformative expression changes and then developed an ensemble approach termed ensemble of multiple drug repositioning approaches (EMUDRA) to integrate EWCos and three existing state-of-the-art methods. EMUDRA significantly outperformed individual drug repositioning methods when applied to simulated and independent evaluation datasets. We predicted using EMUDRA and experimentally validated an antibiotic rifabutin as an inhibitor of cell growth in triple negative breast cancer. EMUDRA can identify drugs that more effectively target disease gene signatures and will thus be a useful tool for identifying novel therapies for complex diseases and predicting new indications for existing drugs. During the neonatal period, the ability to generate immune effector and memory responses to vaccines or pathogens is often questioned. This study was undertaken to obtain a global view of the natural differences in the expression of immune genes early in life. Our hypothesis was that transcriptome analyses of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of foals (on day 1 and day 42 after birth) and adult horses would show differential gene expression profiles that characterize natural immune processes. Gene ontology enrichment analysis provided assessment of biological processes affected by age, and a list of 897 genes with ≥2 fold higher (p<0.01) expression in day 42 when compared to day 1 foal samples. Up-regulated genes included B cell and T cell receptor diversity genes; DNA replication enzymes; natural killer cell receptors; granzyme B and perforin; complement receptors; immunomodulatory receptors; cell adhesion molecules; and cytokines/chemokines and their receptors. The list of 1,383 genes that had higher (p<0.01) expression on day 1 when compared to day 42 foal samples was populated by genes with roles in innate immunity such as antimicrobial proteins; pathogen recognition receptors; cytokines/chemokines and their receptors; cell adhesion molecules; co-stimulatory molecules; and T cell receptor delta chain. Within the 742 genes with increased expression between day 42 foal and adult samples, B cell immunity was the main biological process (p = 2.4E-04). Novel data on markedly low (p<0.0001) TLR3 gene expression, and high (p≤0.01) expression of IL27, IL13RA1, IREM-1, SIRL-1, and SIRPα on day 1 compared to day 42 foal samples point out potential mechanisms of increased susceptibility to pathogens in early life. The results portray a progression from innate immune gene expression predominance early in life to adaptive immune gene expression increasing with age with a putative overlay of immune suppressing genes in the neonatal phase. The present study investigated the role of microRNA-137-regulated AKT serine/threonine kinase 2 (AKT2) on tumor growth and cisplatin sensitivity in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The results demonstrated that the expression of microRNA-137 in cisplatin- treated NSCLC patient tissue samples was markedly lower than that in healthy tissue samples. The disease-free survival and overall survival rates of patients with NSCLC exhibiting a high microRNA-137 expression were higher than the survival rates of patients with NSCLC exhibiting a low expression of microRNA-137. Overexpression of microRNA-137 inhibited the proliferation of A549 and H520 cells treated with cisplatin. Overexpression of miR-137 suppressed the protein expression of AKT2, increased caspase-3 activity, increased Bax protein expression and suppressed Cyclin D1 protein expression in A549 and H520 cells treated with cisplatin. MK2206, an AKT2 inhibitor, inhibited AKT2 protein expression and suppressed the proliferation of A549 and H520 cells treated with cisplatin following overexpression of miR-137. The inhibition of AKT2 also increased caspase-3 activity and Bax protein expression, and suppressed Cyclin D1 protein expression in A549 and H520 cells treated with cisplatin following overexpression of miR-137. Efficient electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are of great importance for large-scale application of rechargeable zinc-air batteries. Iron-nitrogen-carbon materials are known for their excellent ORR catalytic activity, but it is their low OER performance that is responsible for poor charging operation causing slow market adoption of these energy storage devices. Herein, lanthanum (La) is applied to enhance OER electrocatalytic properties of iron-nitrogen-carbon materials used as zinc-air battery electrodes. According to X-ray diffractometry, the presence of La alters the electronic structure of surrounding N and Fe elements, resulting in more negative N and positive Fe ions to appear on the surface and form Fe 3 N active species. Electrochemical analysis demonstrated enhanced bi-functional electrocatalytic performance of La-modified Fe 3 N carbon foam (La-Fe 0.1:1 /NFC) which total overpotential was among the lowest of previously reported metal-nitrogen-carbon materials. Ni/Co diatomic clusters supported on nitrogen-doped carbon foams are prepared via molten salt method to improve the density of surface active sites of zinc-air battery catalysts and further explore metal-modified carbon-based catalysts. The influence of Co and Ni atoms on the carbon foam structure is investigated by X-ray diffraction and high-resolution electron microscopy, and the presence of metal atoms in N-doped carbon foams is confirmed by X-ray spectroscopy. The left shift of the diffraction peak of Co doped graphitic carbon indicates an increase in the interlayer spacing and a reduced graphitization degree, while the introducton of Ni atoms promotes graphitization. For Ni–Co/NFC -2 , Ni inhibits the insertion of Co in carbon layer by increasing graphitization, thus exposing more Co-active substances on the surface, which is important for improving the catalytic process of ORR and OER. According to electrochemical tests, Ni–Co co-doped carbons exhibited superior bi-functional electrocatalytic performance with oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) E onset = 0.97 V and a Tafel slope of 49.5 mV dec−1, accompanied by oxygen evolution reaction (OER) E j = 10 mA cm −2 = 1.46 V. Zinc-air battery (ZAB) cell, utilizing the developed material as a catalyst, exhibited a high discharge power density of 138 mW cm−2 with stable performance for up to 200 h. Densely sampled light fields (LFs) are critical for their further applications, such as digital refocus and depth estimation. However, it is costly and time-consuming to capture them. LF reconstruction, which aims at reconstructing a densely sampled LF from a sparsely sampled one, has attracted extensive attention of researchers. Although existing methods have achieved significant progress, these methods synthesize novel views, either through depth estimation and image warping, which depend heavily on the accuracy of the depth maps and are prone to cause artifacts at occluded regions, or by stacking multi-layer convolutions to learn the inherent structure of the LF, which will result in blurring results due to limited receptive fields when processing scenes with large disparities. We propose a transformer-based neural network for LF reconstruction (termed as LFRTR). Specifically, two novel transformers are introduced, namely angular transformer and spatial transformer. The former can fully explore angular information and correlations among different views, whereas the latter can capture local and non-local spatial texture information within each view. Moreover, dense skip connections are employed to enhance information flow between different layers. Thanks to the inherent global modeling ability of self-attention, the proposed LFRTR can reconstruct high-quality densely sampled LF in complex scenarios, such as large disparity, occlusion, and reflection. Experimental results on both synthetic and real-world LF datasets show that the proposed LFRTR outperforms other state-of-the-art methods in terms of both visual and numerical evaluations. Although antibacterial platforms involving nanozymes have been extensively investigated, there are still problems of poor reactive oxygen species generation efficiency and obstinate bacterial biofilms. Developing a nanozyme-photothermal therapy nanoplatform with superior sterilization effects and minimal side effects would be a good alternative for completely eliminating bacteria and biofilms. Herein, an ultrathin PdMo bimetallene nanozyme with a planar topology and boosted metal utilization, exhibiting excellent photothermal and peroxidase-like activity, is designed for synergistic nanozyme-photothermal sterilization applications and accelerated wound healing. The superior catalytic activity of PdMo bimetallene nanozymes could convert a biosafe concentration of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into large quantities of toxic hydroxyl radicals (•OH) under laser irradiation, enhancing bacterial membrane permeability and thermal sensitivity for efficient removal of bacteria and biofilms. Transition metals have excellent valence electrical properties and unique electronic state distribution and are regarded as potential materials for improving thermoelectric performance. However, the impact of transition metals on thermoelectric materials is restricted to the solid solution limit and doping efficiency, reinforcing the shortcomings in systematic research. Here, thermoelectric properties of transition metal (Ti, V, Cr, Zr, Nb, Mo)-doped PbS are compared and analyzed systematically based on the formation enthalpy. The DFT calculation indicates that the doping (except Zr) leads to the bandgap expansion and the density of states distortion near the Fermi level, while the localization property of the latter results in an invalid resonance level. The formation enthalpy dominates the carrier concentration due to the opposite trend of carrier concentration and formation enthalpy. The formation enthalpy of Zr, Ti, and Nb doping is more negative than others, leading to the more significant optimization of carrier concentration. The Moss–Burstein effect promotes the bandgap expansion, leading to weaker bipolar effects for Zr, Ti, and Nb doping. Eventually, the thermoelectric performance for Ti, Zr, and Nb doping is superior to others at high temperature. The Hume-Rothery rule of the formation enthalpy supplementation is more suitable for the doping and alloying in thermoelectricity. Thermodynamic stability analysis based on the formation enthalpy contribute the PbS-based thermoelectric devices evaluation. The present finding demonstrates the significant effect of formation enthalpy on the thermoelectric properties of PbS and provides a useful avenue for the doping modification and thermodynamic stability analysis of other thermoelectric alloy materials. Background: This study aimed to compare the efficacy of partial splenic embolization (PSE) combined with endoscopic therapy and endoscopic therapy alone in cirrhosis patients with acute variceal bleeding (AVB) and hypersplenism. Methods: Cirrhosis patients with AVB who visited three hospitals from June 2016 to June 2022 were prospectively enrolled and randomly allocated to either the endoscopic therapy combined with PSE group (EP group) or the endoscopic intervention group (E group) in a 1:1 ratio. The primary endpoint of the study was re-bleeding of varices during follow-up, and the secondary endpoints were the recurrence of varices, death, and adverse events. Results: One hundred and fourteen patients were prospectively included, of whom 110 completed the trial. The risk of variceal re-bleeding (19.3% vs. 40.4% (23/57), p = 0.013) and variceal recurrence (28.1% vs. 63.2%, p < 0.001) five years after treatment was significantly lower in the EP group than in the E group, and the EP treatment was the only significant independent risk factor affecting variceal re-bleeding and variceal recurrence in patients. The mortality rate was comparable between the EP and E groups. Peripheral blood counts and liver function all improved significantly in the EP group compared to the E group during the follow-up (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The rates of variceal re-bleeding and recurrence were significantly lower in cirrhosis patients with AVB and hypersplenism after combined endoscopic and PSE treatment compared to those who were provided endoscopic treatment only. Tri-methylation on histone H3 lysine 4 (H3K4me3) is associated with active gene expression but its regulatory role in transcriptional activation is unclear. Here we used Caenorhabditis elegans to investigate the connection between H3K4me3 and gene expression regulation during aging. We uncovered around 30% of H3K4me3 enriched regions to show significant and reproducible changes with age. We further showed that these age-dynamic H3K4me3 regions largely mark gene-bodies and are acquired during adult stages. We found that these adult-specific age-dynamic H3K4me3 regions are correlated with gene expression changes with age. In contrast, H3K4me3 marking established during developmental stages remained largely stable with age, even when the H3K4me3 associated genes exhibited RNA expression changes during aging. Importantly, the genes associated with changes in H3K4me3 and RNA levels with age are enriched for functional groups commonly implicated in aging biology. Background: Discovery of mutated driver genes is one of the primary objective for studying tumorigenesis. To discover some relatively low frequently mutated driver genes from somatic mutation data, many existing methods incorporate interaction network as prior information. However, the prior information of mRNA expression patterns are not exploited by these existing network-based methods, which is also proven to be highly informative of cancer progressions. Results: To incorporate prior information from both interaction network and mRNA expressions, we propose a robust and sparse co-regularized nonnegative matrix factorization to discover driver genes from mutation data. Furthermore, our framework also conducts Frobenius norm regularization to overcome overfitting issue. Sparsity-inducing penalty is employed to obtain sparse scores in gene representations, of which the top scored genes are selected as driver candidates. Evaluation experiments by known benchmarking genes indicate that the performance of our method benefits from the two type of prior information. Our method also outperforms the existing network-based methods, and detect some driver genes that are not predicted by the competing methods. Conclusions: In summary, our proposed method can improve the performance of driver gene discovery by effectively incorporating prior information from interaction network and mRNA expression patterns into a robust and sparse co-regularized matrix factorization framework. MicroRNAs play crucial role in regulating gene expression in organism, thus it is very necessary to exploit an efficient method for the sensitive and specific detection of microRNA. Herein, a signal-on electrochemiluminescence biosensor was fabricated for microRNA-319a detection based on two-stage isothermal strand-displacement polymerase reaction (ISDPR). In the presence of target microRNA, amounts of trigger DNA could be generated by the first ISDPR. Then, the trigger DNA and the primer hybridized simultaneously with the hairpin probe to open the stem of the probe, and then the ECL signal will be emitted. In the presence of phi29 DNA polymerase and dNTPs, the trigger DNA could be displaced to initiate a new cycle which was the second ISDPR. Due to the two-stage amplification, this method presented excellent detection sensitivity with a low detection limit of 0.14 fM. Moreover, the applicability of the developed method was demonstrated by detecting the change of microRNA-319a content in the leaves of rice seedlings after the rice seeds were incubated with chemical mutagen of ethyl methanesulfonate. With the increasing requirement of lightweight and safety of automotive industry, the third-generation automotive medium-Mn (TAMM) steel with large-fractioned metastable austenite has been newly developed in order to enhance the strength and guarantee the formability. In this paper, the effect of plastic deformation condition, such as strain direction and strain rate, on mechanical properties and microstructure of TAMM steel is firstly investigated. The results show that the TAMM steel holds isotropic characteristic and the effect of strain direction and strain rate on mechanical properties can be neglected. Furthermore, the two-step forming process of TAMM steel is studied step by step to understand the effect of pre-forming on final forming. On the one hand, the martensitic transformation and work hardening during pre-deformation increase the strength but decrease the uniformity of mechanical properties, which decreases the final formability. On the other hand, with the increase of pre-strain, the enhanced yield strength, lengthened yield platform and undulating work hardening rate during final forming increase the probability of the crack. The simulated and experimented results prove that one-step forming process is suitable for the TAMM steel part with complex shape because the TRIP effect during one-step forming contributes to high plasticity. The organic-inorganic latex particles with sulfonic acid groups and core-shell structure are successfully obtained and then are heated to fabricate the self-crosslinked organic-inorganic nanocomposite membranes. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra confirm the chemical structure of membranes. The effects of inorganic component on the performances of nanocomposite membranes are investigated extensively. TGA analyses show that the membrane materials possess excellent thermal stability and 5% weight loss temperature increase with increasing SiO 2 content. Solvent absorption measurement suggests the membranes are less permeable to methanol than water. The obtained membranes show conductivity values above 10 − 2 S cm − 1 . More importantly, all the membrane materials exhibit more excellent methanol barrier and higher selectivity compared with Nafion® 117, demonstrating that those membranes could be a potential candidate as proton exchange membranes for future direct methanol fuel cells. Abstract: The cloud model is a typical model which transforms the qualitative concept into the quantitative description. The cloud model has been used less extensively in texture studies before. The purpose of this study was to apply the cloud model in food crispness comparison. The acoustic signals of carrots, white radishes, potatoes, Fuji apples, and crystal pears were recorded during compression. And three time‐domain signal characteristics were extracted, including sound intensity, maximum short‐time frame energy, and waveform index. The three signal characteristics and the cloud model were used to compare the crispness of the samples mentioned above. The crispness based on the Ex value of the cloud model, in a descending order, was carrot > potato > white radish > Fuji apple > crystal pear. To verify the results of the acoustic signals, mechanical measurement and sensory evaluation were conducted. The results of the two verification experiments confirmed the feasibility of the cloud model. The microstructures of the five samples were also analyzed. The microstructure parameters were negatively related with crispness (p < .01). Practical applications: The cloud model method can be used for crispness comparison of different kinds of foods. The method is more accurate than the traditional methods such as mechanical measurement and sensory evaluation. The cloud model method can also be applied to other texture studies extensively. Protein phosphorylation is catalyzed by kinases which regulate many aspects that control death, movement, and cell growth. Identification of the phosphorylation site-specific kinase-substrate relationships (ssKSRs) is important for understanding cellular dynamics and provides a fundamental basis for further disease-related research and drug design. Although several computational methods have been developed, most of these methods mainly use local sequence of phosphorylation sites and protein-protein interactions (PPIs) to construct the prediction model. While phosphorylation presents very complicated processes and is usually involved in various biological mechanisms, the aforementioned information is not sufficient for accurate prediction. In this study, we propose a new and powerful computational approach named KSRPred for ssKSRs prediction, by introducing a novel phosphorylation site-kinase network (pSKN) profiles that can efficiently incorporate the relationships between various protein kinases and phosphorylation sites. The experimental results show that the pSKN profiles can efficiently improve the prediction performance in collaboration with local sequence and PPI information. Furthermore, we compare our method with the existing ssKSRs prediction tools and the results demonstrate that KSRPred can significantly improve the prediction performance compared with existing tools. Due to the importance of post-translational modifications (PTMs) in human health and diseases, PTMs are regularly reported in the biomedical literature. However, the continuing and rapid pace of expansion of this literature brings a huge challenge for researchers and database curators. Therefore, there is a pressing need to aid them in identifying relevant PTM information more efficiently by using a text mining system. So far, only a few web servers are available for mining information of a very limited number of PTMs, which are based on simple pattern matching or pre-defined rules. In our work, in order to help researchers and database curators easily find and retrieve PTM information from available text, we have developed a text mining tool called MPTM, which extracts and organizes valuable knowledge about 11 common PTMs from abstracts in PubMed by using relations extracted from dependency parse trees and a heuristic algorithm. It is the first web server that provides literature mining service for hydroxylation, myristoylation and GPI-anchor. The tool is also used to find new publications on PTMs from PubMed and uncovers potential PTM information by large-scale text analysis. MPTM analyzes text sentences to identify protein names including substrates and protein-interacting enzymes, and automatically associates them with the UniProtKB protein entry. To facilitate further investigation, it also retrieves PTM-related information, such as human diseases, Gene Ontology terms and organisms from the input text and related databases. A series of silica glass compacts were prepared by rapid consolidation of zeolite powder using SPS under different conditions, and their photoluminescent properties were systematically studied in this work. XRD and high-energy synchrotron XRD results show that although the content of zeolite in glass decreases fast with increasing sintering temperature, the residual zeolite always can be found in obtained glass until 1300 °C. Moreover, despite the observed UV PL emission at ~ 370 nm for all prepared glass samples, the PL intensity decreases continuously with increasing consolidating temperature. Based on the FTIR results and HRTEM observation, it is deduced that the zeolite/glass interface which contains lots of defects plays a critical role for UV PL in the zeolite derived glass. The authors describe the fabrication of an electrochemical immunosensor for the determination of the activity of protein kinase A (PKA). The method involves (a) electrochemical deposition of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on a glassy carbon electrode, (b) PKA-induced catalytic phosphorylation of serine, and (c) the use of phosphoserine antibody and horseradish peroxidase conjugated to IgG on gold nanoparticles (HRP-IgG-AuNPs). The use of AuNPs and HRP-IgG-AuNPs results in large amplification so that the method, at a typical working potential as low as 0.08 V (vs. SCE), has a linear range that extends from 0.1 to 50 activity units per mL, and the detection limit is 0.026 units per mL (at an S/N ratio of 3). The assay is selective (not the least due to a rather low working potential) and well reproducible. The potential of porphyrin-derived metal organic covalent networks (OCN) thin films on light gas separations has been recently demonstrated. However, whether or not the central metal ion of the porphyrin plays a key role on separation performance has yet to be elucidated. Here, one metal-free and three metal-containing (zinc(II), manganese(III), and cobalt(II)) porphyrin-derived OCN thin films are successfully deposited on various substrates via an easily scalable initiated plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition approach. Among these four porphyrin-derived OCN thin films exhibiting superior light gas separation performances, three of them are synthesized for the first time. The gas permeation properties of these four OCN thin films suggest that the central metal ions neither significantly alter the packing structure of resulting OCN thin films, nor introduce facilitated transport phenomena favoring oxygen transmission. This observation is further validated by density functional theory calculations. Additional aging tests are also carried out to evaluate the physical aging behavior of the OCN thin films. The diffusion behavior of hydrogen (H) on tin-covered tungsten (Sn-W) surfaces is of great significance for understanding the retention of H in Sn-W materials exposed to H plasma. In this work, the diffusion mechanism of H in Sn-W surfaces and the related interactions were studied through employing density functional theory. The results show that Sn atoms are strongly adsorbed on the W surface with energy of -5.10 ∼ -5.60 eV with surface reconstruction for W (100). The diffusion of H atom from top of Sn to interior on W (100) and W (110) surface requires energy barrier of at least 1.02 eV and 0.76 eV, respectively. More interestingly, the Sn converging on W surface can reduce the diffusion energy barriers of H atom on or into the W surface, which indicates that the diffusion of H atom became easier in comparison to naked W surface. The facilitation effect of Sn on H atom diffusion can be attributed to the strong interaction between the Sn atom and W surface as proved by the calculated charge density and interaction energy. However, the coverage of Sn has little impact on the diffusion of H atom on or into the W sub-surface. As the depth increases, the influence of surface Sn atoms on the diffusion barrier of H decreases. Herein, we developed a novel probe with near-infrared fluorescent emission (750 nm) and a large Stokes shift (118 nm) for the detection of H 2 S. The probe can specific and sensitive detection (LOD as low as 4.5 × 10–8 M) of H 2 S, accompanying an ideal color changes from purple to green natural light. Fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH), a serine hydrolase with significant role in the hydrolysis of endocannabinoids, is a promising therapeutic target for peripheral and central nervous system related disorders, including pain, neuroinflammation and depression. Employing a structure-based approach, a novel series of indole-2-carbonyl piperazine urea derivatives were designed and synthesized as FAAH inhibitors for the treatment of pain-depression comorbidity. Among them, compound 4i emerged as the most potent inhibitor (IC 50 = 0.12 μM) with fine selectivity versus CES2, ABHD6, MAGL and the cannabinoid receptor, which also displayed superior metabolic stability in human liver microsome and an adequate pharmacokinetic profile in rodents. Treatment of depressed rats with 4i demonstrated favorable antidepressant-like effects not only by increasing the level of BDNF in the hippocampus but also by restraining the apoptosis of hippocampal neurons. Also, 4i effectively suppressed the LPS-induced neuroinflammation in vitro. Moreover, 4i exhibited potent analgesic activity, which indicated its promising therapeutical application for pain and depression. Light-field images captured by light-field cameras usually suffer from low spatial resolution due to the inherent limited sensor resolution. Light-field spatial super-resolution thus becomes increasingly desirable for subsequent applications. Although continuous progress has been achieved, the existing methods still failed to thoroughly explore the coherence among light-field views. To address this issue, we propose an efficient neural network for light-field spatial super-resolution, in which the spatial and angular information can be fully exploited by repeatedly alternating spatial and angular domain. Specifically, an enhanced spatial-angular separable convolution block is proposed to efficiently exploit the correlation information between sub-aperture images. Moreover, a multi-scale feature extraction block is introduced to extract feature representations at different scales and capture rich texture and semantic information. Experimental results on both synthetic and real-world light-field datasets demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms other state-of-the-art methods with higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR)/structural similarity (SSIM) values and fewer parameters. The availability of high-performance biofunctional electrocatalysts is the enabler for the wide commercialization of Zn-air batteries (ZAB). In this work, a bifunctional electrocatalyst FeCo /1:2 /PNSC is developed by embedding FeCo nanoclusters into porous N,S-doped carbon foams (PNSC). The results show that the highly-dispersed FeCo nanoclusters provided more active sits for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The modulated electronic structure of heterojunction is found to accelerate the ORR/OER kinetic behaviors. The optimal FeCo /1:2 /PNSC sample exhibits the excellent bifunctional oxygen catalytic activities with the half-wave potential of 0.86 V for ORR and the overpotential of 298 mV for OER at 20 mA cm−2 in alkaline electrolyte. This outperforms the commercial catalysts of Pt/C and RuO 2. In this paper, we discuss the interval consensus problem of multi-agent systems by providing a special Laplacian of directed graphs. As one of the most important issues in the coordination control of multi-agent systems, the consensus problem requires that the output of several spatially distributed agents reach a common value that depends on the states of all agents. For the given consensus protocol and initial states, a fixed consensus value is obtained. The resulting consensus value, however, may not be ideal or meet the quality that we require from the multi-agent system. In this paper, by introducing two state-dependent switching parameters into the consensus protocol, the system given by the proposed protocol can globally asymptotically converge to a designated point on a special closed and bounded interval. In other words, the system given by the proposed protocol can globally asymptotically reach interval consensus and then the system can also achieve a generalised interval average consensus if the directed graph is balanced.
