59. Genetic and Comparative Genome Analysis of Exiguobacterium aurantiacum SW-20, a Petroleum-Degrading Bacteria with Salt Tolerance and Heavy Metal-Tolerance Isolated from Produced Water of Changqing Oilfield, China.

Abstract

The genome of Exiguobacterium aurantiacum SW-20 (E. aurantiacum SW-20), a salt-tolerant microorganism with petroleum hydrocarbon-degrading ability isolated from the Changqing Oilfield, was sequenced and analyzed. Genomic data mining even comparative transcriptomics revealed that some genes existed in SW-20 might be related to the salt tolerance. Besides, genes related to petroleum hydrocarbon degradation discovered in genomic clusters were also found in the genome, indicating that these genes have a certain potential in the bioremediation of petroleum pollutants. Multiple natural product biosynthesis gene clusters were detected, which was critical for survival in the extreme conditions. Transcriptomic studies revealed that some genes were significantly up-regulated as salinity increased, implying that these genes might be related to the salt tolerance of SW-20 when living in a high salt environment. In our study, gene clusters including salt tolerance, heavy metal tolerance and alkane degradation were all compared. When the same functional gene clusters from different strains, it was discovered that the gene composition differed. Comparative genomics and in-depth analysis provided insights into the physiological features and adaptation strategies of E. aurantiacum SW-20 in the oilfield environment. 60. Complete Genome Sequence of a Yersinia enterocolitica“Old World” (3/O:9) Strain and Comparison with the “New World” (1B/O:8) Strain

Abstract

ABSTRACTYersinia enterocoliticais a heterogeneous bacterial species with a wide range of animal reservoirs through which human intestinal illness can be facilitated. In contrast to the epidemiological pattern observed in the United States, infections in China present a pattern similar to those in European countries and Japan, wherein “Old World” strains (biotypes 2 to 5) are prevalent. To gain insights into the evolution of Y. enterocoliticaand pathogenic properties toward human hosts, we sequenced the genome of a biotype 3 strain, 105.5R(r) (O:9), obtained from a Chinese patient. Comparative genome sequence analysis with strain 8081 (1B/O:8) revealed new insights into Y. enterocolitica. Both strains have more than 14% specific genes. In strain 105.5R(r), putative virulence factors were found in strain-specific genomic pathogenicity islands that comprised a novel type III secretion system and rtx-like genes. Many of the loci representing ancestral clusters, which are believed to contribute to enteric survival and pathogenesis, are present in strain 105.5R(r) but lost in strain 8081. Insertion elements in 105.5R(r) have a pattern distinct from those in strain 8081 and were exclusively located in a strain-specific region. In summary, our comparative genome analysis indicates that these two strains may have attained their pathogenicity by completely separate evolutionary events, and the 105.5R(r) strain, a representative of the Old World biogroup, lies in a branch of Y. enterocoliticathat is distinct from the “New World” 8081 strain.

62. Modified endoluminal ureteral stenting for the management of proximal ureteral obstruction in two cats.

Abstract

Case Series Summary: Two cases of placement of modified endoluminal ureteral stents are described, for revision of a subcutaneous ureteral bypass (SUB) and for primary treatment of obstructive ureterolithiasis. Modified endoluminal stents were inserted through the ureterotomy, anchored in the renal pelvis with a single pigtail and shortened to a length sufficient to span the proximal ureter and ureterotomy site., Relevance and Novel Information: The advantages of this approach as a surgical option for feline obstructive ureterolithiasis are demonstrated, including the avoidance of disruption, or bypass, of the ureterovesicular junction, minimisation of implanted foreign material and avoidance of intravesicular stent mass, maintenance of the physiological route of urine flow, including preservation of active distal ureteral function, and limitation of the potential complications of ureterotomy. 63. Exploratory study on resilience and its influencing factors among hospital nurses in Guangzhou, China.

Abstract

Background: Currently, building resilience in nurses is recognized as an important factor that helps maintain their health and stay in their profession; thus, identifying which factors can help them build resilience is necessary., Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was used, and 1356 nurses from 11 general hospitals in Guangzhou, China, were assessed using the Chinese version of the Conner-Davidson Resilience Scale, the General Self-Efficacy Scale, the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire, and the Job Stress Scale of Chinese nurses. The demographic characteristics of participants were also gathered., Results: The mean total score of nurses' resilience is 59.99 (SD 13.59), which was significantly lower ( P  < 0.001) than that of the general people in China. The regression analysis affirmed that the factors which influence the resilience of nurses include self-efficacy, coping style, job stress, and education level ( R 2  = 49.4%, P  < 0.001)., Conclusion: Nurses had low resilience. They could not effectively cope with job challenges and recover from adversity. Strengthening self-efficacy, choosing active coping, decreasing job stress, and enhancing educational training can effectively improve their resilience.
