68. Enhanced Low-Voltage Ride-Through Scheme for Grid-Forming Converters Considering Current Limitation and Transient Stability Simultaneously.

Abstract

Grid-forming (GFM) converters face significant challenges in low-voltage ride-through (LVRT) due to their limited overcurrent capacity. Various transient current-limiting methods have been proposed to address this issue. However, simple current-limiting settings during grid faults can severely compromise the transient stability and reactive power output of GFM, thereby affecting compliance with grid codes. To align with the global push for sustainable energy systems, this study proposes a virtual impedance tuning method (CL-TS VI) that simultaneously considers current-limiting and transient stability requirements, addressing the dual demands of high efficiency and reliable integration of renewable energy. By combining this method with an inner-loop control design based on balanced currents, an enhanced low-voltage ride-through (E-LVRT) scheme is developed. The proposed scheme achieves the coordinated fulfillment of both current-limiting and transient stability requirements by quantitatively analyzing the applicable range of virtual impedance parameters. Specifically, under the constraint of current-limiting conditions, fault scenarios are classified into two categories, with and without equilibrium points, depending on the severity of voltage sag. Then, based on the Lyapunov stability theory, separate virtual impedance design criteria are proposed for these two scenarios, ensuring that the GFM maintains both current-limiting capability and transient stability during fault ride-through while minimizing active power losses. Additionally, the proposed scheme enhances reactive power support capability in the post-fault phase, ensuring compliance with grid code requirements while promoting sustainable grid operation. The proposed strategy is validated through time-domain simulations and hardware experiments. The results demonstrate that the proposed scheme significantly improves the transient stability of GFM and provides a reliable solution for its efficient operation under complex grid conditions. Abstract

The abnormal increase in the temperature of the cable core is an extremely early phenomenon observed during a mining cable internal-caused fire; therefore, the cable internal-caused fire warning system relies on the prompt and accurate measurement of the cable core temperature. The paper proposed a thermal circuit model to calculate the core temperature from the surface temperature of the outer sheath of the cable. The steady-state thermal circuit model is suitable for calculating the temperature when the cable is working normally and the current is stable, whereas the transient thermal circuit model is suitable for calculating the temperature when the cable is faulty. The calculation error of the model is analyzed through the internal-caused fire experiment of the mine cable, and the feasibility of the model algorithm is verified. The results show that the values obtained using the thermal circuit model are in good agreement with the experimental values, and the relative error is less than 10 %, which can be considered to be the criterion for providing early warning in case of a mining cable internal-caused fire.

86. A Deep Quality Monitoring Network for Quality-Related Incipient Faults

Abstract

Although quality-related process monitoring has achieved the great progress, scarce works consider the detection of quality-related incipient faults. Partial least square (PLS) and its variants only focus on faults with larger magnitudes. In this article, a deep quality monitoring network (DQMNet) for quality-related incipient fault detection is developed. DQMNet includes the feature input layer, feature extraction layers, and the output layer. In the feature input layer, collected variables are divided according to quality variables, and then, features are extracted, respectively, through base detectors. For the feature extraction layers, singular values (SVs) of sliding-window patches and principal component analysis (PCA) are adopted to mine the hidden information layer by layer. For the output layer, statistics are constructed from quality-related/unrelated feature matrix through Bayesian inference. The superiority of DQMNet is demonstrated by a numerical simulation and the benchmark data of Tennessee Eastman process (TEP).

Abstract

BackgroundDetecting and segmenting intracranial aneurysms (IAs) from angiographic images is a laborious task.ObjectiveTo evaluates a novel deep-learning algorithm, named vessel attention (VA)-Unet, for the efficient detection and segmentation of IAs.MethodsThis retrospective study was conducted using head CT angiography (CTA) examinations depicting IAs from two hospitals in China between 2010 and 2021. Training included cases with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and arterial stenosis, common accompanying vascular abnormalities. Testing was performed in cohorts with reference-standard digital subtraction angiography (cohort 1), with SAH (cohort 2), acquired outside the time interval of training data (cohort 3), and an external dataset (cohort 4). The algorithm’s performance was evaluated using sensitivity, recall, false positives per case (FPs/case), and Dice coefficient, with manual segmentation as the reference standard.ResultsThe study included 3190 CTA scans with 4124 IAs. Sensitivity, recall, and FPs/case for detection of IAs were, respectively, 98.58%, 96.17%, and 2.08 in cohort 1; 95.00%, 88.8%, and 3.62 in cohort 2; 96.00%, 93.77%, and 2.60 in cohort 3; and, 96.17%, 94.05%, and 3.60 in external cohort 4. The segmentation accuracy, as measured by the Dice coefficient, was 0.78, 0.71, 0.71, and 0.66 for cohorts 1–4, respectively. VA-Unet detection recall and FPs/case and segmentation accuracy were affected by several clinical factors, including aneurysm size, bifurcation aneurysms, and the presence of arterial stenosis and SAH.ConclusionsVA-Unet accurately detected and segmented IAs in head CTA comparably to expert interpretation. The proposed algorithm has significant potential to assist radiologists in efficiently detecting and segmenting IAs from CTA images.

Abstract

Nicotinic acid adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NAADP) and cyclic ADP-ribose (cADPR) are Ca2+-mobilizing messengers important for modulating cardiac excitation-contraction coupling and pathophysiology. CD38, which belongs to the ADP-ribosyl cyclase family, catalyzes synthesis of both NAADP and cADPR in vitro However, it remains unclear whether this is the main enzyme for their production under physiological conditions. Here we show that membrane fractions from WT but not CD38-/- mouse hearts supported NAADP and cADPR synthesis. Membrane permeabilization of cardiac myocytes with saponin and/or Triton X-100 increased NAADP synthesis, indicating that intracellular CD38 contributes to NAADP production. The permeabilization also permitted immunostaining of CD38, with a striated pattern in WT myocytes, whereas CD38-/- myocytes and nonpermeabilized WT myocytes showed little or no staining, without striation. A component of β-adrenoreceptor signaling in the heart involves NAADP and lysosomes. Accordingly, in the presence of isoproterenol, Ca2+ transients and contraction amplitudes were smaller in CD38-/- myocytes than in the WT. In addition, suppressing lysosomal function with bafilomycin A1 reduced the isoproterenol-induced increase in Ca2+ transients in cardiac myocytes from WT but not CD38-/- mice. Whole hearts isolated from CD38-/- mice and exposed to isoproterenol showed reduced arrhythmias. SAN4825, an ADP-ribosyl cyclase inhibitor that reduces cADPR and NAADP synthesis in mouse membrane fractions, was shown to bind to CD38 in docking simulations and reduced the isoproterenol-induced arrhythmias in WT hearts. These observations support generation of NAADP and cADPR by intracellular CD38, which contributes to effects of β-adrenoreceptor stimulation to increase both Ca2+ transients and the tendency to disturb heart rhythm.
