74. Theoretical Study on the O–H Fracture of Methanol on PtnCu4–n(n= 1, 2, 3) Catalysts with Different Coverages

Abstract

Direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) have attracted increasing attention as a very promising and important energy source. In this paper, density functional theory (DFT) is used to study the structure and O–H fracture mechanism of methanol adsorption on PtnCu4–n(111) (n= 1, 2, 3) binary metal catalyst surfaces under different coverages. By comparing the adsorption energy and dehydrogenation energy barriers of methanol, it is found that the adsorption strength and dehydrogenation energy barriers of methanol on Pt and Cu sites decreased with increasing coverage. At the same Pt and Cu ratio, methanol is more easily adsorbed on Cu sites. When Pt/Cu = 3:1 and 1:3, the PtCu binary catalyst has a significant impact on the energy barrier of breaking the O–H bond in methanol with the increase of coverage. Especially when Pt/Cu = 1:3 and the coverage is 1/4 ML, the energy barriers of O–H bond breaking in methanol on Pt and Cu sites are 0.63 and 0.61 eV, respectively, which are lower than that on pure Pt. It means that the Cu sites played a very important role in reducing the O–H fracture energy barrier of methanol. When Pt/Cu = 1:1, the change in the dehydrogenation energy barrier of methanol on Pt sites and Cu sites is not significant, indicating that the coverage has little effect on it.

Abstract

We study the entanglement R\'{e}nyi $\alpha$-entropy (ER$\alpha $E) as the measure of entanglement. Instead of a single quantity in standard entanglement quantification for a quantum state by using the von Neumann entropy for the well-accepted entanglement of formation (EoF), the ER$\alpha $E gives a continuous spectrum parametrized by variable $\alpha $ as the entanglement measure, and it reduces to the standard EoF in the special case $\alpha \rightarrow 1$. The ER$\alpha $E provides more information in entanglement quantification, and can be used such as in determining the convertibility of entangled states by local operations and classical communication. A series of new results are obtained: (i) we can show that ER$\alpha $E of two states, which can be mixed or pure, may be incomparable, in contrast to the fact that there always exists an order for EoF of two states; (ii) similar as the case of EoF, we study in a fully analytical way the ER$\alpha $E for arbitrary two-qubit states, the Werner states and isotropic states in general d-dimension; (iii) we provide a proof of the previous conjecture for the analytical functional form of EoF of isotropic states in arbitrary d-dimension., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

Recombinase-aided polymerase chain reaction (RAP) is a sensitive, single-tube, two-stage nucleic acid amplification method. This study aimed to develop an assay that can be used for the early diagnosis of three types of bacteremia caused by Staphylococcus aureus (SA), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA), and Acinetobacter baumannii (AB) in the bloodstream based on recombinant human mannan-binding lectin protein (M1 protein)-conjugated magnetic bead (M1 bead) enrichment of pathogens combined with RAP. Recombinant plasmids were used to evaluate the assay sensitivity. Common blood influenza bacteria were used for the specific detection. Simulated and clinical plasma samples were enriched with M1 beads and then subjected to multiple recombinase-aided PCR (M-RAP) and quantitative PCR (qPCR) assays. Kappa analysis was used to evaluate the consistency between the two assays. The M-RAP method had sensitivity rates of 1, 10, and 1 copies/μL for the detection of SA, PA, and AB plasmids, respectively, without cross-reaction to other bacterial species. The M-RAP assay obtained results for < 10 CFU/mL pathogens in the blood within 4 h, with higher sensitivity than qPCR. M-RAP and qPCR for SA, PA, and AB yielded Kappa values of 0.839, 0.815, and 0.856, respectively (P < 0.05). An M-RAP assay for SA, PA, and AB in blood samples utilizing M1 bead enrichment has been developed and can be potentially used for the early detection of bacteremia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Short-chain dehydrogenase/reductases (SDRs) belong to the NAD(P)(H)-dependent oxidoreductase superfamily, which have various functions of catalyzing oxidation/reduction reactions and have been generally used as powerful biocatalysts in the production of pharmaceuticals. In this study, ScSDR1 and ScSDR2, two new SDRs have been identified and characterized from Stachybotrys chartarum 3.5365. Substrate scope investigation revealed that both of the enzymes possessed the ability to oxidize β-OH to ketone specifically, and exhibited substrate promiscuity and high stereo-selectivity for efficiently catalyzing the structurally different prochiral ketones to chiral alcohols. These findings not only suggest that ScSDR1 and ScSDR2 might be potent synthetic tools in drug research and development, but also provide good examples for further engineered enzymes with higher efficiency and stereo-selectivity. Abstract

Recent developments in deep learning techniques have offered an alternative and complementary approach to traditional matched filtering methods for the identification of gravitational wave (GW) signals. The rapid and accurate identification of GW signals is crucial for the progress of GW physics and multi-messenger astronomy, particularly in light of the upcoming fourth and fifth observing runs of LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA. In this work, we use the 2D U-Net algorithm to identify the time-frequency domain GW signals from stellar-mass binary black hole (BBH) mergers. We simulate BBH mergers with component masses from 5 to 80 $M_{\odot}$ and account for the LIGO detector noise. We find that the GW events in the first and second observation runs could all be clearly and rapidly identified. For the third observation run, about $80\%$ GW events could be identified and GW190814 is inferred to be a BBH merger event. Moreover, since the U-Net algorithm has advantages in image processing, the time-frequency domain signals obtained through U-Net can preliminarily determine the masses of GW sources, which could help provide the mass priors for future parameter inferences. We conclude that the U-Net algorithm could rapidly identify the time-frequency domain GW signals from BBH mergers and provide great help for future parameter inferences., 11 pages, 9 figures
