Merapi Volcano is one of the active volcanoes in Indonesia, which is located in the Central Java and Yogyakarta Province. The eruption of Merapi Volcano is a threat to people living on the slopes of Merapi, especially on its denselypopulated southern flank. The purpose of this study was to build a webGIS to support volcanic hazard mitigation regarding Merapi Volcano and evaluate the webGIS system for determining the community’s perception. This research was the first to produce a product that is used by government agencies related to volcanic disaster mitigation. webGIS development was carried out using an open source platform. System evaluation was carried out using usability testing. The samples were obtained using systematic the random sampling method of respondents who lived in the villages on the southern flank of Merapi volcano. webGIS was built using LeafletJS and QGIS, combined with spatial data about the evacuation locations, health facilities, evacuation routes, government offices, educational facilities and worship facilities, with a basemap obtained from Openstreet Map and Google Satellite. WebGIS was equipped with a database query feature to make it easier for users to find geographical information. The usability testing results showed that as many as 83% of the respondents were very satisfied with the appearance and information of webGIS, while as many as 82% were very satisfied with the navigation offered via the webGIS display.

The habous institution is playing a considerable religious and socio-economic role in the history of Morocco. Thanks to the revenues derived from habous property, the country was able to acquire numerous social and religious facilities. These resources financed the construction of several mosques and medersas, and ensured the functioning of numerous charitable and general utility works. The habous property is vast and heterogeneous in terms of typologies and functions, it includes agricultural land, urban land plots, and also buildings, a substantial number of which has a heritage value. However, data concerning habous land and real estate is scarce. There are no precise, general and easily consultable databases that bring together data relating to this heritage and enable decision-makers to understand its potential and the way in which this potential can be optimized. In this perspective, several researches have been interested in the elaboration of geographic information systems for the management of land and real estate assets, except that no work has approached such a rich, diversified and heterogeneous heritage as the habous heritage, nor has it presented a complete framework ensuring an extensive characterization of the real estate assets, taking into account the different states of the land: agricultural, serviced or built, the natural, regulatory and patrimonial context of the assets, as well as their technical and functional aspects. To overcome this deficiency, we have designed our own database and we have forged our own classification and coding tools based on an approach that constantly relates different scales of observation and investigation to grasp the complexity and importance of the habous heritage, and explore areas of its development. In this work we have built a Geographic Information System (GIS), composed of a database connected to QGIS and GIS Web in order to store, manage and visualize data related to the habous heritage. The whole infrastructure has been developed and implemented using open-source software. Tests to evaluate the efficiency and the relevance of the results of our information system have been carried out. We tried to show how this system could, from the interpretation and the interrogation of the collected data, be a decision support tool in the management of the habous property. The paper introduces the Oil-Slick Hub (OSH), a computational platform to facilitate the data visualization of a large database of petroleum signatures observed on the surface of the ocean with synthetic aperture radar (SAR) measurements. This Internet platform offers an information search and retrieval system of a database resulting from >20 years of scientific projects that interpreted ~15 thousand offshore mineral oil "slicks": natural oil "seeps" versus operational oil "spills". Such a Digital Mega-Collection Database consists of satellite images and oil-slick polygons identified in the Gulf of Mexico (GMex) and the Brazilian Continental Margin (BCM). A series of attributes describing the interpreted slicks are also included, along with technical reports and scientific papers. Two experiments illustrate the use of the OSH to facilitate the selection of data subsets from the mega collection (GMex variables and BCM samples), in which artificial intelligence techniques—machine learning (ML)—classify slicks into seeps or spills. The GMex variable dataset was analyzed with simple linear discriminant analyses (LDAs), and a three-fold accuracy performance pattern was observed: (i) the least accurate subset (~65%) solely used acquisition aspects (e.g., acquisition beam mode, date, and time, satellite name, etc.); (ii) the best results (>90%) were achieved with the inclusion of location attributes (i.e., latitude, longitude, and bathymetry); and (iii) moderate performances (~70%) were reached using only morphological information (e.g., area, perimeter, perimeter to area ratio, etc.). The BCM sample dataset was analyzed with six traditional ML methods, namely naive Bayes (NB), K-nearest neighbors (KNN), decision trees (DT), random forests (RF), support vector machines (SVM), and artificial neural networks (ANN), and the most effective algorithms per sample subsets were: (i) RF (86.8%) for Campos, Santos, and Ceará Basins; (ii) NB (87.2%) for Campos with Santos Basins; (iii) SVM (86.9%) for Campos with Ceará Basins; and (iv) SVM (87.8%) for only Campos Basin. The OSH can assist in different concerns (general public, social, economic, political, ecological, and scientific) related to petroleum exploration and production activities, serving as an important aid in discovering new offshore exploratory frontiers, avoiding legal penalties on oil-seep events, supporting oceanic monitoring systems, and providing valuable information to environmental studies. Kos is the third largest island of the Dodecanese, located in the southeastern Aegean Sea, Greece. The island's remarkable location both in a prominent geodynamic space and at a crossroads of East, West and South has endowed it with a unique wealth of geological, biological, cultural, and traditional heritage. Steep mountain ranges consisting of Alpine Mesozoic rocks alternate with low-altitude plateaus featuring marine and lacustrine sediments that contain fossils of past life. In addition, the transition of barren land to lush forests where numerous species of flora and fauna thrive is unique to Greek ecosystems. This environment hosted civilizations and activities that gradually led to the present-day cultural and religious state of the island, where people and nature coexist respectfully on one of the country's most favourite destinations. In an effort to further enhance the public's awareness of the geo-cultural heritage of Kos, an online ESRI Hub was created, featuring several individual ESRI StoryMaps web apps regarding each specific aspect of the island's heritage. The goal of this paper is to discuss the importance of using such means for disseminating geoscientific information to the public, to describe the methods used and to give a brief presentation of its content. Tourism is one of the most important factors in economic growth in Vietnam. However, it requires the balance between economics, social-cultures, and ecology because of their big impacts. In this paper, we propose a platform with mobile and web-based applications that can support smart and sustainable tourism in Vietnam for both local governments and visitors. The mobile application allows visitors to access location-based services to explore the visiting area, such as finding nearby natural attractions, as well as information to minimize the negative effects of tourism on the environment and the local community. It also enables users to report negative impacts to local government. The web application allows local authorities to monitor the status and trends of the habitant, natural environment, tourism infrastructure and activities in the area. The system uses geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing techniques to collect, analye and visualize various indicators of sustainability. The platform is developed with open-source technologies such as NodeJS, PostgreSQL, and Flutter. The paper demonstrates the feasibility and usefulness of the proposed platform through case studies in Hoa Binh and BacKan, two provinces have many attractive natural sites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The enhancement of heritage, both cultural and natural, must be considered as a resource for revitalizing the territory. In this context, Aragon has a great landscape and cultural heritage that is scattered throughout the territory and is not very accessible. It needs to be properly documented and inventoried as a means of activating new processes of knowledge, enhancement and use of rural development. This work is devoted to the creation of the Digital 3D Inventory of the Aragonese Mudejar Architectural Heritage, which includes buildings that currently have little graphic and imprecise documentation, since many of them are located in small towns of less than 500 inhabitants, with urban fabric of narrow streets. To carry out the registration, the use of drones to capture images and later the construction of the point cloud with photogrammetry, it is an adequate technical and economically sustainable solution since it deals with populations plagued by depopulation and with few resources. A generalized methodology is proposed to collect, store and disseminate 2D/3D geometric and geospatial documentation of inventoried buildings, providing more graphic information than traditional architectural inventories. As a novelty, for the dissemination of information, the creation of a web platform composed of a cartographic viewer (WebGIS) and a point cloud manager based on WebGL technology is proposed as a valuable tool to relate buildings with their environment, characteristic of great importance in the case of heritage located in rural areas.DOI: https://doi.org/10.20365/disegnarecon.29.2022.8

This paper presents the development procedure and significance of a web mapping application designed for disseminating, exploring, and analyzing Kaupert's 19th-century Maps of Attica, Greece. The application facilitates historical and geographical study by providing access to high-resolution map images and overlaying multiple vector layers of geospatial data. The paper outlines the methods used to create the application, which includes the process of interpreting, digitizing, and organizing the original mapped data, georeferencing the historical cartographic sheets, and developing the web-based mapping application. The results of this work include a comprehensive and interactive digital reference tool for studying the ancient topography of Attica, as well as a framework for future research. In order to adapt to the in-depth application of information management under the current normal disaster reduction and abnormal disaster relief scenarios, this paper proposes a design scheme of business platform for natural disaster emergency response process. Data exchange method was adopted to realize information sharing among multiple departments; the comprehensive natural disaster database was established to realize unified data source management and real-time update; intelligent mobile terminals was used to push natural disaster information to realize government society public multi-dimensional coordination; based on the network geographic information system, the natural disaster risk status was displayed in real time to realize the application of natural disaster risk monitoring and early warning, comprehensive research and judgment and emergency command. The platform effectively improves the management level of natural disaster risk control and the efficiency of emergency management, and truly achieve the goal of cross domain, multi-disaster and whole process closed-loop management and accurate control of natural disaster risk.

The complexity of historical urban centres progressively needs a strategic improvement in methods and the scale of knowledge concerning the vulnerability aspect of seismic risk. A geographical multi-scale point of view is increasingly preferred in the scientific literature and in Italian regulation policies, that considers systemic behaviors of damage and vulnerability assessment from an urban perspective according to the scale of the data, rather than single building damage analysis. In this sense, a geospatial data sciences approach can contribute towards generating, integrating, and making virtuous relations between urban databases and emergency-related data, in order to constitute a multi-scale 3D database supporting strategies for conservation and risk assessment scenarios. The proposed approach developed a vulnerability-oriented GIS/HBIM integration in an urban 3D geodatabase, based on multi-scale data derived from urban cartography and emergency mapping 3D data. Integrated geometric and semantic information related to historical masonry buildings (specifically the churches) and structural data about architectural elements and damage were integrated in the approach. This contribution aimed to answer the research question supporting levels of knowledge required by directives and vulnerability assessment studies, both about the generative workflow phase, the role of HBIM models in GIS environments and toward user-oriented webGIS solutions for sharing and public use fruition, exploiting the database for expert operators involved in heritage preservation. Recent advances in Computer Science and the spread of internet connection have allowed specialists to virtualize complex environments on the web and offer further information with realistic exploration experiences. At the same time, the fruition of complex geospatial datasets (point clouds, Building Information Modelling (BIM) models, 2D and 3D models) on the web is still a challenge, because usually it involves the usage of different proprietary software solutions, and the input data need further simplification for computational effort reduction. Moreover, integrating geospatial datasets acquired in different ways with various sensors remains a challenge. An interesting question, in that respect, is how to integrate 3D information in a 3D GIS (Geographic Information System) environment and manage different scales of information in the same application. Integrating a multiscale level of information is currently the first step when it comes to digital twinning. It is needed to properly manage complex urban datasets in digital twins related to the management of the buildings (cadastral management, prevention of natural and anthropogenic hazards, structure monitoring, etc.). Therefore, the current research shows the development of a freely accessible 3D Web navigation model based on open-source technology that allows the visualization of heterogeneous complex geospatial datasets in the same virtual environment. This solution employs JavaScript libraries based on WebGL technology. The model is accessible through web browsers and does not need software installation from the user side. The case study is the new building of the University of Twente—Faculty of Geo-Information (ITC), located in Enschede (the Netherlands). The developed solution allows switching between heterogeneous datasets (point clouds, BIM, 2D and 3D models) at different scales and visualization (indoor first-person navigation, outdoor navigation, urban navigation). This solution could be employed by governmental stakeholders or the private sector to remotely visualize complex datasets on the web in a unique visualization, and take decisions only based on open-source solutions. In the course of mining activities, large amounts of data are collected by multiple scientific disciplines. Software to assist mining engineers in planning and decision-making is, however, absent; the software used in the mining industry is not capable of a holistic approach, and therefore does not function as a data integration interface. What is required to fill this gap/to resolve this issue is an application that is platform-independent, integrates multiple types of data and does not require GIS knowledge.In this paper, a webGIS application, MaGISter-mine, is presented that can solve the problems arising during mining activities. MaGISter-mine was created as a data integrating surface that makes querying and measuring geographical data easy. The MaGISter-mine application is able to handle photogrammetry models and laser-scanned point clouds, while distance, area and volume can also be easily calculated. The software can draw 2D profiles from 3D files. Time- and space-dependent changes between two surveys can be analysed, too. Geological strata can be edited, and new surfaces can be generated by kriging interpolation.During the development of the webGIS application, mostly open-source software and libraries were used. The spatial database consists of the PostgreSQL relational database management system and its extension, called PostGIS. To perfect accessibility on the client side, GeoServer with Apache Tomcat and Apache webserver were employed. The webGIS application was developed using OpenLayers, three.js and Potree, written in PHP, SQL, HTML, CSS and JavaScript languages.

Underground coal mining will inevitably cause serious ground deformation, and therefore, preventive mining-induced deformation analysis (MIDA) is of great importance in assisting mining planning and decision-making. Current web-based Geographic Information System (webGIS)-based applications usually use 2D GIS data and lack a holistic framework. This study presents a multi-scalar oblique photogrammetry-supported unified 3D webGIS framework for MIDA applications to fill this gap. The developed web platform uses multiple open-source JavaScript libraries, and the prototype system provides user-friendly interfaces for GIS data collecting and corresponding database establishment, geo-visualization and query, dynamic prediction, and spatial overlapping analysis within the same framework. The proposed framework was tested and evaluated in the Qianyingzi mining area in eastern China. The results demonstrated that multi-scalar oblique photogrammetry balances data quality and acquisition efficiency and provides a good source of GIS datasets, and the web-based platform has a good absolute and relative spatial accuracy verified by two types of validation data. Practical application results proved the feasibility and reliability of the system. The developed web-based MIDA prototype system attains an appealing performance and can be easily extended to similar geoscience applications.

Here we show the SAVEMEDCOASTS-2 web-based geographic information system (webGIS) that supports land planners and decision makers in considering the ongoing impacts of Relative Sea Level Rise (RSLR) when formulating and prioritizing climate-resilient adaptive pathways for the Mediterranean coasts. The webGIS was developed within the framework of the SAVEMEDCOASTS and SAVEMEDCOASTS-2 projects, funded by the European Union, which respond to the need to protect people and assets from natural disasters along the Mediterranean coasts that are vulnerable to the combined effects of Sea Level Rise (SLR) and Vertical Land Movements (VLM). The geospatial data include available or new high-resolution Digital Terrain Models (DTM), bathymetric data, rates of VLM, and multi-temporal coastal flooding scenarios for 2030, 2050, and 2100 with respect to 2021, as a consequence of RSLR. The scenarios are derived from the 5th Assessment Report (AR5) provided by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and encompass different Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP2.6 and RCP8.5) for climate projections. The webGIS reports RSLR scenarios that incorporate the temporary contribution of both the highest astronomical tides (HAT) and storm surges (SS), which intensify risks to the coastal infrastructure, local community, and environment.

The development of the State Border Geoinformation System of the Republic of Croatia (SBGiS), based on opensource technologies, has facilitated and accelerated the storage, processing, handling, analysis and visualization of large amounts of spatial data used in open border issues, as well as standard affairs on maintaining the regulated state border of the Republic of Croatia. Centralized data storage and their spatial visualization through an interactive map allows citizens to see the situation at the state border in real time, which significantly increases the safety of movement in the border zone, but also aids in the prevention of state border breaches. The SBGiS is the only system that has been established not only for maintaining a regulated state border but also for resolving border disputes and delimitation procedures. At present, the traditional geographical study is somewhat shifted to virtual web-datacentric geographical study and it was started almost around last decade of the twentieth century concerning remotely sensed earth surface, digitisation, virtual data storing and their artificial intelligence based machine learning for spatio-temporal analysis, prediction and thematic mapping. Now in the age of webdom—a global digital kingdom of internet and web services, when internet services flooded everything relating to continuous up-gradation of computer-related science and technologies along with increasing number of internet users and GPS enabled smart phones, geographical data are generated by exaflood leading to bigdata. Many online data are now easily available to everyone from anywhere at any time. The objective is to assess the webdom and to understand the scope of contemporary virtual web-data-centric geographical study involving geographical bigdata, machine learning and WebGIS, when virtual world abundantly expands gradually during this period of webdom. Each data in bigdata contains geospatial attributes. Worldwide under the exponential growth and advancement of data science like other scientific disciplines geography is also predicting different phenomenon based on artificial intelligence and machine learning. The three main facets of virtual web-data-centric geographical study are geographical bigdata, geographical machine learning, and WebGIS. It is centrally concerned with digital data and web services. Here data are analysed through machine learning methods. Both in the literature and in practical applications, several works have dealt with rockfall analysis and the planning of mitigation measures. It is also possible to find inventories and papers that describe historical events. However, it is challenging to find methodologies or studies about inventorying rockfall mitigation or their efficiency over time. In Italy, many rockfall barriers and other mitigation solutions have been built in the last decades, and one of the most urgent problems is their correct management and maintenance. Lauria, a small town in southern Italy, can be considered an example of this common condition exacerbated by a wildfire in 2017. This work presents a methodology for assessing rockfall risk and creating a geodatabase of mitigation structures focused on small communities. We used digitalization of archival sources to reconstruct and geocode the record of mitigation works. An available database of historical landslides was used to reconstruct the most relevant rockfall events. Moreover, we coupled this with Sentinel-2 images and high-resolution orthophotos to map the wildfire area. Data obtained from the UAV-LiDAR survey were used to map the mitigation structures. The aim was to create a reliable state-of-the-art method, described in an operational monograph, to be used by experts for the design of new rockfall mitigation structures in both an affordable and efficient way. Moreover, we created a simple webGIS and a 3-D interactive view, helpful in disseminating rockfall hazards and mitigation strategies among the population at risk. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mining activities promote resulting wastes, so coal mines are prone to release contaminants to the environment, namely to the soil and water. Therefore, the analysis of this type of risk is crucial in waste pile management. The São Pedro da Cova (Porto, Portugal) coal waste pile has been studied in recent years, with several data acquired from 2019–2021 under a research project using distinct methodologies. These results are now combined in a multi-approach method to estimate the environmental impacts of the waste pile and identify the contamination. With the integration of all the data in a Geographical Information System (GIS) environment, and to fulfill a scientific gap, this study aims: (i) to create a susceptibility map of contamination in the areas surrounding the self-burning coal waste pile in São Pedro da Cova, using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Fuzzy AHP approaches; and (ii) to develop a webGIS application incorporating all the information acquired that can be useful for the residents of São Pedro da Cova and also to the decision-making public entities and researchers. The results obtained show that the contamination susceptibility is higher surrounding the abandoned mine, particularly along the waste piles and the corresponding runoff areas, which can be especially sensitive. Abstrak WebGIS merupakan salah satu pemetaan digital yang berbasis website yang saat ini tengah berkembang pesat. Pemanfaatan webgis dapat digunakan sebagai pemetaan sebuah lokasi bangunan yang nantinya memberikan informasi kepada masyarakat. Salah satunya yaitu sebagai pemetaan lokasi BTS di kecamatan Jatinegara. Pemetaan BTS tersebut, diharapkan dapat memberikan informasi secara public yang dapat di akses oleh masyarakat khususnya di kecamatan Jatinegara. Dalam webgis tersebut juga menampilkan keterangan berupa alamat BTS secara lengkap. Dalam pengembangan sistem webgis ini, peneliti menggunakan metode waterfall dan untuk perancangan sistem menggunakan Unifed Modeling Language (UML). Serta dalam pengujiannya menggunakan blackbox testing untuk mengetahui apakah sistem yang dikembangkan sudah sesuai kegunaan dan fungsinya. Dari hasil pengujian tersebut webgis yang kembangkan telah berjalan sesuai kebutuhan dan tidak terdapat kesalahan syntak. Abstract WebGIS is a website-based digital mapping which is currently growing rapidly. Utilization of webgis can be used as a mapping of a building location which will later provide information to the public. One of them is as a mapping of BTS locations in Jatinegara sub-district. The BTS mapping is expected to provide public information that can be accessed by the public, especially in the Jatinegara sub-district. The webgis also displays information in the form of a complete BTS address. In developing this webgis system, researchers used the waterfall method and for system design using the Unified Modeling Language (UML). As well as in the test using blackbox testing to find out whether the system developed is in accordance with its uses and functions. From the test results, the webgis that was developed has been running as needed and there are no syntax errors.

The project Risk Map of the floors of Parco archeologico del Colosseo, as already described in the three previous AISCOM talks, provides for the continuous monitoring and routine maintenance of all the decorated floors of the Parco through direct control by specialized operators supported by a web-GIS system, in which all the data collected in the field are reported daily. At the conclusion of the first three years of this project, we published the interactive floor map: https://cdrweb.parcocolosseo.it. Spatial thinking skills is needed in geography learning. Geography learning learns about the geosphere, which need to be studied from the perspective of spatial, environment, and regional complex. This is consistent with the concept of spatial thinking, which involves complex thinking processes from multiple perspectives to study various phenomena. This research aims to determine the effect and effectiveness of using webgis inarisk media towards spatial thinking skills. This research was conducted through a quantitative method with data analysis using T-Test (Independent Sample T-Test) and the effectiveness test using (N-Gain Score Test). The results showed the Sig. (2-tailed) value in the analysis of the Independent Sample T-Test was 0.001 or more than 0.05. The average score of spatial thinking ability also showed that the experiment group (XI IPS 2) has a score of 70.3 which is higher than the control group (XI IPS 1) that is 64.2. Based on this, it is concluded that the webgis inarisk as a learning media has an effect on students' spatial thinking abilities. The results of the N-Gain Score test showed that webgis inarsik media used in experiment group (XI IPS 2) has better effectiveness in the achievement of spatial thinking skills, which is 43.7 percent, compared to map media used in control group (XI IPS 1) with an effectiveness of 32.09 percent. Kemampuan berpikir spasial diperlukan dalam pembelajaran geografi. Pembelajaran geografi mempelajari tentang fenomena geosfer, dimana perlu dikaji melalui melalui sudut pandang keruangan, kelingkungan dan kompleks wilayah. Hal tersebut sesuai dengan konsep berpikir spasial, yang melibatkan proses berpikir yang kompleks dari berbagai perspektif untuk mempelajari berbagai fenomena. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dan efektivitas penggunaan media webgis inarisk terhadap kemampuan berpikir spasial siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan metode kuantitatif, dengan analisis analisis data melalui Uji-T (Independent Sample T-Test) dan uji efektivitas (Uji N-Gain Score). Hasil nilai Sig (2-tailed) pada analisis Independent Sample T-Test menunjukkan skor 0,001 atau lebih dari 0,05. Rata-rata skor kemampuan berpikir spasial juga menunjukkan pada kelas eksperimen yaitu (XI IPS 2) memiliki nilai 70,3 yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol (XI IPS 1) yaitu 64,2. Disimpulkan bahwa webgis inarisk sebagai media pembelajaran berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan berpikir spasial siswa. Hasil Uji nilai N-Gain Score juga menunjukkan bahwa media webgis yang digunakan di kelas eksperimen (XI IPS 2) memiliki efektivitas yang lebih baik dalam pencapaian kemampuan berpikir spasial yaitu sebesar 43,7 persen, dibandingkan media peta yang digunakan di kelas kontrol (XI IPS 1) dengan efektivitas 32,09 persen.

The article examines the issue of using geographic information systems (GIS) and WEBGIS technologies to predict areas likely to be flooded. Probabilistic flood hazard maps (0.5%, 0.1% and 1% flood risks) were used, obtained from a model installation in an area subject to flood risk, in this case, the municipality of Ungheni in the Republic Moldova, which has been flooded in the past. The application of GIS technologies is necessary to prevent floods affecting households, infrastructure and to minimize its effects. For this purpose, were analyzed the previous floods that occurred in the region. Also were applied and overlaid thematic digital maps such as Land Use, river network, DTM, Delineation Methodology of water bodies which represents the transposition of the EU Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC and at the end were uploaded on an ESRI Web GIS platform http://www.dbga.md/siga.html. The Coordinate system used here was WGS-84.

Rural electrification in developing countries is often hampered by major information gaps between local communities and urban centers, where technical expertise and funding are concentrated. The tool presented in this paper addresses these gaps to support the implementation of off-grid micro hydropower infrastructure. Specifically, we present a method to site, size and evaluate the potential for micro hydropower based on remote sensing data. The method improves on previous approaches by (i) incorporating the effect of hillslope topography on the optimal layout of the infrastructure, and (ii) accounting for the constraints imposed by streamflow variability and local electricity demand on the optimal size of the plants. An assessment of the method's performance against 148 existing schemes indicates that it correctly identifies the most promising locations for hydropower in Nepal, but does not generally reproduce the specific design features of constructed plants, which are affected by site-specific constraints. We develop a proof-of-concept computer tool to explore the potential of webGIS technology to account for these constraints by collecting site-specific information from local users.

Due to the need for further expansion of a gas pipeline network and more efficient maintenance of available spatial data on the gas pipeline infrastructure, the management of gas transportation system operator has decided to extend the existing information system for the management of gas infrastructure by introducing location intelligence, i.e. its upgrading with the functional WebGIS solution. This paper describes the approach for developing the solution by using open source software components. The implemented WebGIS solution enables environmental monitoring in relation to safe natural gas transport, helps in planning and maintaining the gas pipeline network, and provides location-conscious decisionmaking on various aspects of the gas infrastructure management.

Recently, soybean production almost doubled in Brazil, reaching 122 million tonnes, and it is expected to increase even more. Brazil is the world's largest producer and is primarily an exporter. From a sustainability point of view, soy production has been strongly criticized mainly in relation to deforestation, albeit for indirect effects. Soybean oil is a potential feedstock for the production of bio-jet fuels, which needs to be sustainable according to international criteria (sustainable aviation fuels—SAF). This paper aims to estimate the areas still available for soy expansion in Brazil, considering conditions that would allow the production of SAF. We used the SAFmaps platform, a geospatial database with information on the most promising bioenergy crops for SAF and their supply chains. Just by displacing pastures and observing a set of constraints, the total area available for expansion was estimated at 192.8 thousand km2, of which 43% is of high suitability. These areas are concentrated in the Center-West region. Assuming a vertical supply chain, the results of the case studies of SAF production indicate potential feasibility, but some hypotheses considered are optimistic. Moreover, the results indicate that there can be sustainable production of soybean oil and contribution to the production of SAF. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Data integration of structured ecosystem monitoring is crucial to support decision making for better marine ecosystem management. Coral reef monitoring data had been carried out in several separated studies in Lampung Province. However, lacks data integration among scientists and institutions making them inefficient as a basis of science for ecosystem management and decision making. This study was aimed to integrate available coral reef data in the last 15 years in Lampung Province and inform the spatial status of coral reef cover through WebGIS. Secondary data of coral reef study in the last 15 years were acquired from published articles and online-available-institutional reports. Data were then converted to digital mode prior to publishing them in the form of a website database through WebGIS. Results suggested that there were four main areas of coral reef studies in Lampung Province, namely Lampung bay, Krakatau, Bakauheni, and Lampung west coast. One-way ANOVA analysis of the last 5-year coral data shown there were no spatial differences on coral cover the four areas. Coral cover in Lampung west coast was generally in good shape at 56.13±1.74% and was higher compared to those in Lampung bay, Bakauheni, dan Krakatau regions, at 46.57±2.23%, 36.48±1.58%, and 35.6±3.69%, respectively. All coral data was published through WebGIS at https://sll.itera.ac.id/research/webgis . It is recommended this WebGIS could serve as a reference to conduct long-term coral reef monitoring in Lampung since it provides coordinates and coral reef status as baseline data for further analysis of coral reefs ecosystem.

Pendidikan merupakan salah satu sektor terpenting yang perlu dikembangkan untuk meningkatkan kualitas sumber daya manusia. Banyaknya jumlah sekolah di kota Surakarta memberikan banyak alternatif bagi calon peserta didik dan orang tua murid. Akan tetapi sedikitnya informasi mengenai profil sekolah serta lokasi keberadaanya yang tidak banyak orang tau, menjadikan hambatan bagi calon peserta didik dan orang tua dalam menentukan pilihan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah merancang dan membangun Sistem Informasi Geografis berbasis web untuk pesebaran SMA / SMK di kota Surakarta dengan menggunakan Library Leaflet Javascript untuk menampilkan peta pesebaran SMA / SMK. Aplikasi ini memungkinkan untuk mencari lokasi sekolah di sekitar pengguna dan memberikan informasi mengenai profile sekolah. Diharapkan aplikasi ini dapat membantu masyarakat dalam mengakses informasi mengenai lokasi dan profil sekolah di kota Surakarta. Pengembangan sistem menggunakan metode sekuensial linier (Waterfall) dan dibuat dengan beberapa komponen yaitu HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP dan mysql. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah webgis yang dapat menampilkan lokasi pesebaran sekolah dan profil sekolah di kota Surakarta. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian metode Black-box sistem dapat berjalan sesuai dengan fungsionalitasnya. Sedangkan pada pengujian metode SUS diperoleh score SUS yaitu 79,4, menunjukan sistem diterima oleh masyarakat. Kesimpulan yang di dapat pada penelitian ini adalah Library Leaflet mempermudah dalam pembuatan peta, sistem dapat menampilkan lokasi pada peta dan informasi profil sekolah serta sistem dapat berjalan dengan baik.
